Software

  • Bryce
    • Bryce terrains can be used to create terrain files for islands. Create terrain in Terrain Editor then export the image from the Bryce 6 Terrain Canvas Options menu. Load saved image into Photoshop and save as a .raw file - see Estates and Private Regions for information on creating RAW files.
    • Build complex structures in Bryce then render to get a detailed texture that can be applied to a cube or plane in SL without having to use a lot of prims. Remember to render a mask image as well.
    • Render plants and trees and apply to planes in SL. Don't forget to render a mask image to go with them. For trees, make sure that you don't use the default trees created in Bryce. They must be modified by you before you use them as a texture base.
    • Use the Deep Texture Editor to create textures, apply to a terrain that has been "flattened" (click on New in Terrain Editor then paint a flat terrain using the paint tools), then export the terrain making sure the texture image is set to a fairly large size. Once exported, the texture can be opened in a paint program and made into a seamless texture using tools in the paint program.

Textures

Includes any texture sold on any Poser online store. Read the user license carefully for each product.

  • Figure textures cannot be converted to use on SL Avatars and the skins sold or given away unless the textures used are merchant resources which give this permission. However, the skin or clothing texture should be set to No Transfer as the purchaser does not own a license to redistribute the texture.
  • Background textures, such as for the Cyclorama, can be used for personal use but not sold or given away. Make sure properties are set to No Copy/No Mod/No Trans when using in game.
  • Same goes for textures used on props, buildings, hair, etc. Personal use only with properties set to No Copy/No Mod/No Transfer unless from a merchant resource which gives permission to modify and resell with No Transfer properties set on the texture. This includes textures for trees, plants, flowers, etc. such as Lisa's Botanicals.
  • Seamless and tileable textures purchased or found as free downloads cannot be sold or given away in their default format. Depending on the license, you can only use the textures to create textures for figures, clothing, buildings, etc. but the original texture cannot be extractable or transfered by the purchaser. Selling or giving away the textures as seamless and/or tileable textures is a violation of agreed to licenses.
  • Textures created in Bryce in the Deep Texture Editor are yours to do with as you wish as long as you personally created the texture. Do not try to pass off one of the default materials or textures that come with Bryce, or materials you purchased or downloaded, as your own.
