[16:07] | Cara Ametza: | hello Pink |
[16:07] | Rex Cronon: | hello pink |
[16:07] | Pink Linden: | I'm going to get us started since i came late. |
[16:07] | Pink Linden: | Hello and welcome to office hours 2 today. the topic is yesterday's announcement about the Second Life Marketplace |
[16:08] | Pink Linden: | given the large crowd and number of questions this morning I want to ty a new format |
[16:08] | Pink Linden: | can folks tell me what topics are on their mind? |
[16:08] | Pink Linden: | then I'll set up an agenda and we'll go throught it a bit more orderly |
[16:09] | Phoenix Welles: | color scheme is my biggest concern |
[16:09] | Mimika Oh: | Pattern and other product variation grouping. |
[16:09] | Rex Cronon: | how does this new xstreet benefits the merchants? |
[16:09] | Pink Linden: | also, I'll give a linden bear to the first person to send me a transcript from this morning, mine was eaten. :( |
[16:09] | Fleep Tuque: | Allowing others to manage your stock |
[16:09] | Ashasekayi Ra: | BBcode removal |
[16:09] | Cara Ametza: | Let me dig and see if I have it |
[16:09] | Toysoldier Thor: | ratings & Reviews system |
[16:09] | Ann Otoole: | i have a couple of one product type but lots of options type scenarios I can send in an IM if you like. then you can look at them later. |
[16:09] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | i have it somewhere |
[16:09] | BizTutor Magic: | Portability of USD/Euros/Pounds across Marketplace and LindEx changes |
[16:09] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | looking |
[16:09] | Fleep Tuque: | Freebie/educational items, any policy changes there |
[16:09] | Jarnz Dench: | Group tools for partners and the such, would be great to sell items together and not seperately |
[16:10] | BizTutor Magic: | LindEx exchanges* |
[16:10] | Toysoldier Thor: | New or Additional or Changed fees for the new xstreet site |
[16:10] | Mimika Oh: | The schedule for charging for free item listings. |
[16:10] | Phoenix Welles: | also I've been instructed to find out if selling under one name but having the money go to another avatar 'bank' will be possible |
[16:10] | Couldbe Yue: | shopfronts and how they'll work |
[16:10] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | looks like sl ate mine to :( |
[16:10] | BizTutor Magic: | And from what I can see, everyone's having issues with Aspect ratios. on their pics. Doesn't affect me, but should be addressed. |
[16:10] | Couldbe Yue: | I've got it (or I should have) |
[16:11] | Ann Otoole: | i moved my store. now i am changing lms in a thousand boxes. sure would be nice if we could set an LM on our profile and that be shown on our products instead of having to go set a slurl on hundreds of products |
[16:11] | BizTutor Magic | seconds Phoenix' question. |
[16:11] | Fleep Tuque: | nice suggestion Ann |
[16:11] | Rachel Darling: | availability of multple language listings |
[16:11] | Toysoldier Thor: | i assumed Ann's question would be addressed with the new storefront |
[16:11] | Toysoldier Thor: | i could be wrong |
[16:12] | Pink Linden: | ok here's what I have |
[16:12] | Pink Linden: | color/product variations |
[16:12] | Pink Linden: | Benefits to Merchants |
[16:12] | Pink Linden: | Assistants |
[16:12] | Pink Linden: | Ratings and REviews |
[16:12] | Pink Linden: | Freebie/edu |
[16:12] | Pink Linden: | Group tools |
[16:12] | Pink Linden: | fees |
[16:12] | Pink Linden: | storefronts |
[16:12] | Ann Otoole: | well there needs to be the default and then you can set a custom slurl. like for prefab merchants pointing directly to a build |
[16:12] | Pink Linden: | aspect ratios |
[16:12] | Pink Linden: | and Phoenix's question about avatar bank which I'll need to better understand |
[16:13] | Pink Linden | accepted your inventory offer. |
[16:13] | Phoenix Welles: | I was actually asking about the backend color scheme or if there will be color skinning options for us if the default color scheme will be used. I can't use the current sl colors |
[16:13] | Pink Linden: | starting at the top. Color/Variations. |
[16:13] | Phoenix Welles: | when I said colors |
[16:13] | BizTutor Magic: | One other concern: Service rather than goods providers being able to use Marketplace, since to the dismay of some, they're merchants too! |
[16:13] | Fleep Tuque: | Oh the color of the website? heh, I assumed you meant product variations. |
[16:13] | Mimika Oh: | Web site color separate topic from product variations. |
[16:13] | Pink Linden: | adding services to the list |
[16:14] | Pink Linden: | there were a couple questions about product variations so I'll start there |
[16:14] | Phoenix Welles: | ya website color. I haven't been able to add product in months cause of the current colors |
[16:14] | Pink Linden: | and add site color to the end if that's ok Phoenix |
[16:14] | Phoenix Welles: | kk |
[16:14] | Pink Linden: | so, questions about product variations? |
[16:14] | Mimika Oh: | How will it look? |
[16:14] | Mimika Oh: | How will customer see the variations? |
[16:14] | Mimika Oh: | And choose between them? |
[16:14] | Pink Linden: | right now, we've only planned for color and those are in the mockups posted on flickr |
[16:14] | Maximus Orellana: | Let the lady speak |
[16:15] | Pink Linden | accepted your inventory offer. |
[16:15] | Maximus Orellana: | Go pink |
[16:15] | Pink Linden: | these will not be in beta, but are targed for 45 days out from there. |
[16:15] | Fleep Tuque: | Flickr mockups at http://www.flickr.com/photos/pink_linden/ |
[16:15] | Pink Linden: | we have architected the databases to support variations |
[16:15] | Pink Linden: | thanks Fleep |
[16:15] | Pink Linden: | so much of the heavy lifting to suport this there. |
[16:15] | Jarnz Dench: | when picking a different product colour, can it show a different set of pictures just for that colour? |
[16:15] | Ann Otoole: | yes. i have a pair of shoes in 75 color and/or texture variations and some with different features. Then i have sets, one for male, one for female in 40 color/emblem variations for male or for femaale. are you going to slap a limit on how many variations we are allowed to sell? |
[16:16] | Dimitrio Lewis: | I would probably imagine a drop down box for variation, and a new picture being shown in the image box when a different variation is selected |
[16:16] | Mimika Oh: | Will you enforce collapsing of item variations? |
[16:16] | Pink Linden: | not sure what you mean by collapsing Mimika |
[16:17] | Mimika Oh: | Please excuse me if I don't understand. Are variations together one listing or many? |
[16:17] | Pink Linden: | varations will be childen of a parent item |
[16:17] | Pink Linden: | for now color will be the only variation (but this could also mean texture) |
[16:17] | Mimika Oh: | But they are still listings in their own right as well? |
[16:17] | Rachel Darling: | it looks like one listing, Mimika |
[16:17] | Pink Linden: | one listing Mimika |
[16:17] | Mimika Oh: | Right, so will you force merchants to group items like this? |
[16:17] | Pink Linden: | and once we have that we can then allow shoppers to filter on colors in the search results. |
[16:17] | Mimika Oh: | So ensure a fair market? |
[16:18] | Ann Otoole: | also if you are going to cripple our capabilities to display a wide range of options will we be able to use our own web site and primarily market there pointing back to the few Linden Labn allows to be sold in Linden Lab's limitewd feature marketplace? |
[16:18] | Pink Linden: | pretty tough words Ann, kind of hard to answer that. |
[16:18] | Argus Collingwood: | there is a space for linking to video, right? |
[16:18] | Pink Linden: | our goal is to make it easier for shoppers to find and buy what they're looking for. |
[16:18] | Argus Collingwood: | show them in a video |
[16:19] | Pink Linden: | and we'll measure that and make changes. |
[16:19] | Mimika Oh: | It is a good goal. Will it be a *rule* to group things? |
[16:19] | Pink Linden: | Mimika on color, yes |
[16:19] | Mimika Oh: | So will you be checking items or relying on abuse reports to fix? |
[16:19] | Cara Ametza: | Oh that's going to be fun to enforce o.o |
[16:19] | Rachel Darling: | Pink, if that's the rule, will you be able to support the total number of variations we need for a single product then? |
[16:19] | Pink Linden: | Rachel, that's the goal |
[16:19] | Pink Linden: | it's one of the reasons we're going to wait to ship that feature. |
[16:20] | Pink Linden: | we want it to be right. |
[16:20] | Mimika Oh: | Since it is another 45 days I can defer questions if it is helpful. I have many. |
[16:20] | Mimika Oh: | There is more urgent business maybe! |
[16:20] | Pink Linden: | Mimika, dont hesitate to send me a notecard or email |
[16:20] | Mimika Oh: | OK. |
[16:20] | Baldtraveller Shan: | When a product is sold. Can a portion of the sale or all be shared or sent to another avatar other than the account that is selling the item? Shared income. Using another avatar like a bank to store lindens. |
[16:20] | Pink Linden: | we've opened the floor early enough to take in feedback on this feature so ti's a good time to give it. |
[16:20] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | id just like to remention the need for bb code in the listings |
[16:21] | Ann Otoole: | well if LL is going to limit how many options can be shown then we have to direct customers off the limited marketplace to a superior place where the full range caqn be shown. Fact of web marketing life. anyone in the business understands this. Microsoft's plaza failed because of trying to fit every merchant into a predefined limited display. the merchants just built their own websites. |
[16:21] | Rachel Darling: | But Pink, again -- if you wait then you're going to be importing all the extra listings, making us edit them, change the photos, then do it again when you bring in the variations |
[16:21] | Cara Ametza: | Distributions are already possible Baldie, I use them now. |
[16:21] | Pink Linden: | Baldtraveller I'll add your question to the list. |
[16:21] | Rachel Darling: | that's a LOT of work for us, and a bad experience for users when you go live |
[16:21] | Pink Linden: | Rachel, you won't have to do any work to port over, and remember the marketplaces will run in parallel. |
[16:21] | Baldtraveller Shan: | THankx Cara. Pink. |
[16:21] | Rex Cronon: | how do distributions work? |
[16:21] | Pink Linden: | we will only be sending a small set of shoppers on day one to the marketplace. |
[16:21] | Pink Linden: | and growing it slowly from there |
[16:21] | Pink Linden: | while we watch and measure. |
[16:22] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | I also wanted to double check that the ratings / comments / ect will port as well |
[16:22] | Argus Collingwood: | does the same Xstreet box service both sites? |
[16:22] | Pink Linden: | are there other questions on color/variation? |
[16:22] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | yes argus |
[16:22] | Toysoldier Thor: | how can it run in parralel? which way will the shoppers go to shop at xstreet? |
[16:22] | Pink Linden: | argus, yes, magic box serves both |
[16:22] | Candace Morgwain: | i saw a page yesterday from a link someone gave me of a listing...not sure if that was supposed to happen but it looked much like the screenshots |
[16:22] | Argus Collingwood: | * Thank You * |
[16:22] | Pink Linden: | Toysoldier, we'll direct a small group of shoppers to the new site |
[16:22] | Toysoldier Thor: | we r going to confuse the shoppers |
[16:23] | Rex Cronon: | so, we will have something like a drop-down list from which customers can select the color? |
[16:23] | Ashasekayi Ra: | That does seem a bit confusing. |
[16:23] | Pink Linden: | Rex, it's a color selector in the item details page as per the flickr images |
[16:23] | Pink Linden: | in theory ash, but I and other Lindens have done migrations like this successfully elsewhere. we'll manage it. |
[16:23] | Ann Otoole: | for variations what about swatches when you have something in a lot of texture variations? |
[16:23] | Pink Linden: | Ann, good feedback on textures. noting that now. |
[16:24] | Pink Linden: | like a "color picker" |
[16:24] | Maximus Orellana: | good idea |
[16:24] | Pink Linden: | ok if no more questions on color variations...moving to other topics. |
[16:24] | Cara Ametza: | I like the swatch idea, more visuble |
[16:24] | Phoenix Welles: | also with variations will there be the ability for different prices ie fatpack vs single item |
[16:24] | Cara Ametza: | visual* |
[16:24] | Ann Otoole: | yea would require uploading a lot of tiny swatch images |
[16:24] | Ann Otoole: | but worth it |
[16:24] | Mimika Oh: | Swatches are good for me too. |
[16:24] | Pink Linden: | phoenix, not at beta. but definitely an option in the future now that we have a new architecture. |
[16:25] | Phoenix Welles: | k |
[16:25] | Ashasekayi Ra: | Votes for swatches also |
[16:25] | Pink Linden: | I'm going to skip benefits to merchants for a bit and try to answer a few other ones first. |
[16:25] | Pink Linden: | Ratings and Reviews: they will be ported over as is. we are not making changes to how they work. |
[16:26] | Pink Linden: | but we do have a projct called Feedback 2.0 on the radar for a later date. |
[16:26] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | great ty , just wanted to double check |
[16:26] | Pink Linden: | questions on ratings and reviews? |
[16:26] | Dimitrio Lewis: | How do reviews work currently? Do the most helpful rated ones move to the top? |
[16:26] | Fleep Tuque: | I believe they are just posted in order |
[16:26] | Pink Linden: | Freebies/edu, t here is no changes to fee structure with Beta. |
[16:26] | Fleep Tuque: | thanks Pink |
[16:27] | Pink Linden: | that should answer the fees question too. |
[16:27] | Mimika Oh: | Do you have schedule for changes to fees? |
[16:27] | Maximus Orellana: | No charges for Freebies |
[16:27] | Maximus Orellana: | ?? |
[16:27] | Ann Otoole: | for swatches like a shoe in 50 textures you would need 50 swatches and 50 product images and as each swatch is selected the main product picture displays the product associated with that swatch. |
[16:27] | Mimika Oh: | Maybe I had it wrong, but many months ago it was coming in a few weeks, I thought. |
[16:27] | Pink Linden: | that's right Maximus. |
[16:27] | Pink Linden: | and we added a link to the demo listing from the main listing. |
[16:27] | Ann Otoole: | one page 50 products |
[16:27] | Maximus Orellana: | Ty Pink |
[16:27] | Granmanya Beverly: | Hi guys....I have a problem...can I do a question??? |
[16:27] | Pink Linden: | and if an item has a demo, there will be a note in the search results. |
[16:27] | Cara Ametza: | perhaps along with that demo listing a link to a fat pack could be done as well? |
[16:28] | Pink Linden: | not for beta Cara, but we'll look at bundles, defintiely. |
[16:28] | Cara Ametza: | Would promote the demo and the fat pack on each product page easy to find, and probably build a lot of sales as well |
[16:28] | Cara Ametza: | sounds fair |
[16:28] | Pink Linden: | ok, jumping back to a few that are longer answers |
[16:28] | Pink Linden: | Assistants |
[16:28] | Pink Linden: | questions there |
[16:28] | Toysoldier Thor: | Pink: Will the Monthly Listing Fees that LL announced on Nov18 be integrated into this New Xstreet site? "YES" or "NO" or "We are re-evaluating the Roadmap and fees". There is no other answer nor any legit reason to hide the answer. You clearly seem to be avoiding answering this but your "Customers" deserve an answer. |
[16:28] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | How will that work, and what access will they have? |
[16:28] | Toysoldier Thor: | are the monthly listing fee basically DEAD? |
[16:29] | Pink Linden: | Toysoldier, we won't have the fees at the beta launch. that's all the information I have for you at this time. |
[16:29] | Granmanya Beverly: | PINK ...I'm a normal customer of Xstreet and ave a several problem with item purchased.....can you help me?? |
[16:29] | Mimika Oh: | Thank you for being clear that you have no answer. I can stop asking. |
[16:29] | BizTutor Magic: | That gives the thinking warrior an answer. :) (See Sun Tzu ,"The Art of War") |
[16:30] | Pink Linden: | no problem Mimika. |
[16:30] | dana Archer: | what about refunds to customers, how will they be handled? |
[16:30] | Pink Linden: | assistants |
[16:30] | Pink Linden: | questions there? (dana, added your question to the queue) |
[16:30] | Dusky Jewell: | Pink-- what does LL mean with ‰ssistants"there is no details about this , so first explain it before asking for questions. |
[16:30] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | How will that work, and what access will they have? |
[16:30] | Toysoldier Thor: | scary that LL doesnt know if they will or will not be charging new fees for this service they plan to roll out.... SHUGS |
[16:30] | dana Archer: | ty |
[16:30] | Pink Linden: | many merchants have asked us to add the ability for assistants to work on their listings. |
[16:30] | Cara Ametza: | How many assistants can be used? Will there be different access levels? For example, higher access for a manager while lower access for an assistant |
[16:31] | Pink Linden: | currently assistants have to use their manager's SL account, which is a violation of TOS. |
[16:31] | dana Archer: | egads, thats shocking |
[16:31] | Pink Linden: | (we've always looked the other way on that, for obvious reasons, but it's not a state that is good to sustain). |
[16:31] | BizTutor Magic: | I agree with that concept, so long as there aren't ARs on it. |
[16:32] | Pink Linden: | there are access levels and you'll have lots of time to play with it when we run in parallel on the beta launch. |
[16:32] | Cara Ametza: | Too much can go wrong when using someone else's acct |
[16:32] | Ann Otoole: | guess you would have to sign a release waiver if you are giving someone else control of your business. |
[16:32] | Pink Linden: | remember, it's a version 1. so it will be basic |
[16:32] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | ty |
[16:32] | Pink Linden: | but it's been a long requested feature. |
[16:32] | BizTutor Magic: | It IS a valid point, and I thank God you look the other way on some of this stuff, Pink. Please pass the word to LL that "no harm, no foul" is a GREAT idea that would assist the ENTIRE AR process. |
[16:32] | Dusky Jewell: | Well there are many business partnerships, and I am in one of those..I had access to my partner's XStreet account, before LL took over and made it difficult for me. Will assistants have access to stats too? |
[16:32] | Pink Linden: | you can set the permissions Dusky. |
[16:33] | Pink Linden: | one thing assistants may not do is pricing. only the main account can do this. |
[16:33] | Dusky Jewell: | ok |
[16:33] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | what about viewing balance? |
[16:33] | Cara Ametza: | good question, hopefully that's not released |
[16:33] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | or use / abuse the $l in anyy way |
[16:33] | Pink Linden: | not sure on that carpe, I'll have to get back to yon on that one. |
[16:33] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | ok ty |
[16:33] | Pink Linden: | obviously an assistant can't spend or cash out |
[16:33] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | good |
[16:34] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | id like not to have the balances be seen |
[16:34] | Pink Linden: | again I want to stress version 1 |
[16:34] | Pink Linden: | getting the basics done right was the goal for this first release. |
[16:34] | Cara Ametza: | that's some comfort, but inability to see balance would be very nice |
[16:34] | BizTutor Magic: | Did Carpe just make my portability of USD/Euro/Pounds question relevant by "opening the door"? |
[16:34] | dana Archer: | sets of privleges? |
[16:35] | Pink Linden: | just one basic "assistant" at this time dana |
[16:35] | Granmanya Beverly: | Pink...I'm so sorry...I know you're in an important reunion with sales ppl....but I've got a this problem with items purchased on Xstreet |
[16:35] | dana Archer: | lkk ty |
[16:35] | Granmanya Beverly: | my problem is rare......cause I received all item purchased yesterday....but 5 minutes after....i crashed......and all items dissaperars from my inventory |
[16:35] | Pink Linden: | will be best to get a simple version out, then you all can bang on it and tell us what needs to be fixed. |
[16:35] | Toysoldier Thor: | when the new site has all the listings migrated over... will the new xstreet be able to be accessed by merchants only so we can clean up and learn and experiment before the doors are flung open to the public? |
[16:35] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | submit a ticket |
[16:35] | Granmanya Beverly: | it's normal??? |
[16:36] | Pink Linden: | toysoldier, we'll be doing extensive testing prior to launch with a subset of shoppers and merchants. |
[16:36] | BizTutor Magic | resigns himself to a notecard or email on that one. LOL |
[16:36] | Argus Collingwood: | check your im G |
[16:36] | Pink Linden: | then we'll slowly open the doors to shoppers while opening the entire store to merchants. |
[16:37] | Granmanya Beverly: | ok...i will submit....but i'm asking if it's normal....cause today i bought more items...and have no problems |
[16:37] | Toysoldier Thor: | how long will the two site run parralel? so that means we will have to maintain 2 sites for this period of time? |
[16:37] | Granmanya Beverly: | thanks for your help |
[16:37] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | will http://www.xstreetsl.com fwd to the new site so as they type the old one they will be redirected to the new one? and if so for how long? |
[16:37] | Cara Ametza: | I would assume that changes to one would port automatically to the other? |
[16:37] | Toysoldier Thor: | i cant see that |
[16:37] | Pink Linden: | carpediem, once we shut down xstreetsl that will happen but not until we're ready to do so. |
[16:37] | Toysoldier Thor: | too technically comfusing |
[16:38] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | how long will the forwarding go for? |
[16:38] | Pink Linden: | ok with only 25 mins left I have to push forward in the list |
[16:38] | Pink Linden: | group tools |
[16:38] | Pink Linden: | what were the questions there? |
[16:38] | Pink Linden: | (we'll run in parallel for as long as we need to to get things right) |
[16:38] | Jarnz Dench: | will there at some point be the ability to sell as a group |
[16:38] | Pink Linden: | and then we'll permanently forward |
[16:39] | Pink Linden: | Jarnz not at beta, but tell us more...what do you mean sell as a group? like distributions to others? |
[16:39] | Cara Ametza: | I don't remember seeing anything on group tools, can someone refresh my memroy quickly? |
[16:39] | Ann Otoole: | oh if we could have group discounts that would be great but LL would have to validate group membership |
[16:39] | Cara Ametza: | memory* |
[16:39] | BizTutor Magic: | D'accord, Ann! |
[16:39] | Pink Linden: | Ann, there is a coupon tool you can give shoppers, maybe a special discount to your group |
[16:39] | Cara Ametza: | Group limits are a major problem for that I think though :( The limit of 25 really sucks lol |
[16:39] | Ashasekayi Ra: | Group discounts would be great. |
[16:39] | Jarnz Dench: | with a brand of many creators, at the moment can only sell in xstreet as individuals |
[16:39] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | id love more picks ad group slots |
[16:40] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | and* |
[16:40] | Cara Ametza: | ahh, I see what your saying Ash |
[16:40] | Cara Ametza: | so that 2 merchants could have a joined store front for example? |
[16:40] | Taylor Lubezki: | Like Ova and I |
[16:40] | Jarnz Dench: | would be great at some point where many creators can come together and sell their items as 1 brand, like a brand storefront |
[16:40] | Cara Ametza: | since they operate under the same business? or am I missing that totally? |
[16:40] | Pink Linden: | Cara, that ties into the idea of a branded store |
[16:41] | Pink Linden: | yes, Jarnz, we have to build this. but we will get there faster with a better architecture. |
[16:41] | BizTutor Magic: | (The group name would function as the brand...) |
[16:41] | Pink Linden: | groups are one way to attack it. will add this for consideration. |
[16:41] | Cara Ametza: | I like the idea of that a lot, would make it easier to find things for a single store/brand that has different creators |
[16:41] | Toysoldier Thor: | the storefront will hold all the information relevent to our store inworld? i.e. the LM to our store, so we dont have to change it for each listing? correct? |
[16:41] | Mimika Oh: | I would prefer it is not tied to SL groups because they are inflexible. |
[16:41] | Lorissia Fraisse: | It might be nice if you could link your product to a store which has given you permissions to. Build the store name with any and all partners and all their products. |
[16:42] | BizTutor Magic: | Or as though it were a primary brand sold by the store that actually sells secondarily branded items. |
[16:42] | Pink Linden | nods. good discussion for store fronts. |
[16:42] | Cara Ametza: | Yes, I agree with Mimika, the number of groups is hard to work with, making SL groups required for the marketplace store fronts to use brands etc would be a problem I think |
[16:42] | Pink Linden: | noting in the chat logs (saved properly) |
[16:42] | Kiara Mazi: | What about a relationship with Skype...it would be great to incorporate video conferencing |
[16:42] | Pink Linden: | (and linden bears coming to a few of you, thank you for chat transcripts) |
[16:43] | Pink Linden: | ok, I want to jump to Phoenix's questions about avatar banks |
[16:43] | Cara Ametza: | video conferencing? |
[16:43] | BizTutor Magic: | Options are a good thing with groups...not a bad one...across the board. |
[16:43] | Pink Linden: | can you expand on your question phoenix? I didn't understand |
[16:43] | Phoenix Welles: | actually that was baldie's question he just wasn't here yet |
[16:43] | Pink Linden: | ah ok |
[16:43] | Pink Linden: | baldie? |
[16:43] | Pink Linden: | (only in SL can you call someone baldie and not get punched!) |
[16:43] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | lol |
[16:43] | Argus Collingwood: | lol |
[16:43] | Cara Ametza: | rofl |
[16:43] | BizTutor Magic: | ROTFL! |
[16:43] | Cara Ametza | pokes Baldie.... pay attention ;p |
[16:44] | Phoenix Welles: | he might have figured it out, it was about distributioons |
[16:44] | Rivan Dressler: | I punched someone |
[16:44] | Pink Linden: | ah ok. we can come back if he wakes up |
[16:44] | Phoenix Welles: | he's in and out of window |
[16:44] | Pink Linden: | :P |
[16:44] | Pink Linden: | ok, let me go back to the last one on the list, which is benefits to merchants |
[16:44] | Baldtraveller Shan: | huh huh? wha? |
[16:44] | Argus Collingwood: | aspect rsatio Pink |
[16:44] | Pink Linden: | my hope is that all of the things we're takling about make it clear |
[16:44] | Pink Linden: | (noted Argus) |
[16:45] | Mimika Oh: | Benefits to merchants = more sales with less cost of time, to me! |
[16:45] | Pink Linden: | but if it's not clear what the benefits are to you as merchants, I want to understand how and why |
[16:45] | Pink Linden: | this is a significant investment of $$ and dev time for the Lab |
[16:46] | BizTutor Magic: | I seem to be the only one who's thinking about the service side of the economy in SL. Benefit there? |
[16:46] | Cara Ametza: | What is the benefit to the aspect ratio and omitting BB Code? Let's try that one, seems to be where most people get a bit confused on why those restrictions are being put in. |
[16:46] | Mimika Oh: | Pink, I hope your design takes account of time taken for merchants to list and maintian things, which can at the moment easily make listing things a loss. |
[16:46] | Cara Ametza: | I'm sure the decision for that wasn't pulled out of thin air, so there had to be a reason for it. |
[16:47] | BizTutor Magic | tunes his dial to "WII-FM". ;) |
[16:47] | CarpeDiem Turbo: | rl has becon me, ty Pink for your time. I will see you at the next office hour |
[16:47] | Pink Linden: | aside from aspect ratios, which we'll get to in a few mins |
[16:47] | Pink Linden: | can I assume you all love this marketplace dearly and will not burn me in effigy? |
[16:47] | Argus Collingwood: | yes lol |
[16:47] | Pink Linden: | ;) |
[16:47] | Ashasekayi Ra | chuckles. |
[16:47] | Cara Ametza: | I like the idea of it, just a few things I think need to be tweaked. |
[16:47] | Brooke Fairplay: | lol |
[16:47] | Pink Linden: | at least today, on the burning in effigy thing. |
[16:47] | Toysoldier Thor: | not that i care since i do not have ahuge investment in fixed costs for a store, teirs, rent etc. but a concern is that LL seems to be putting more focus in drawing the economy out of SL and into the web. How to u answer how the new more exciting XStreet will not draw more shoppers out of SL grid? |
[16:48] | Rex Cronon: | does burning u increase sales:) |
[16:48] | Cara Ametza: | With some tweaks and a few changes I think it would be really nice and a huge improvement. |
[16:48] | Mimika Oh: | It is hard to make XStreetSL worse for me, so I am optimistic. |
[16:48] | Cara Ametza: | lol |
[16:48] | Ashasekayi Ra | agrees with Cara. |
[16:49] | Pink Linden: | Toysoldier, to that I can only say that the internet didn't put all brick and mortar retailers out of business. 2/3 of shoppers tell us they use xstreet to browse before buying in world. |
[16:49] | Fleep Tuque: | People buying stuff on Xstreet are buying it to use in world |
[16:49] | Ann Otoole: | It would help if you actually ate your own dog food pink. Since you are not a merchant in SL how can you posibly understand how time consuming what you guys popped out of a box with will really be? Oh and btw our time is money and has value. |
[16:49] | Fleep Tuque: | No worries about pulling peeps off the grid, I'd think |
[16:49] | Mimika Oh: | I second Ann: time is money. |
[16:49] | Pink Linden: | +1 time is money ann, I often say myslef they are equivalent currencies. |
[16:49] | Lasher Oh: | can't love what we haven't seen properly yet and not looking forward to all the extra work |
[16:49] | BizTutor Magic: | Pink: I shop inworld both out of self-interest and out of altruism. LOL |
[16:50] | Fleep Tuque: | I assume HTML formatting will be permitted since BBcode is out? |
[16:50] | Ann Otoole: | like the aspect ratio issue i hear you got beat up over in meeting one |
[16:50] | BizTutor Magic: | But I DO check XStreet for venues of immediately needed items. |
[16:50] | Cara Ametza: | We can hope Fleep |
[16:50] | Phoenix Welles: | working off the concerns of migration... what kind of migrations tools will make this speedier for us? |
[16:50] | Mimika Oh: | Pink, if you can find a good exchange rate from money to time please tell me where. |
[16:50] | Baldtraveller Shan: | PINK: The question about avatar banks or shareing sales income was answered by Cara. Wanted to know if we can share or sales income with other avatars. We already can. |
[16:50] | Toysoldier Thor: | with the increased lag, and tier costs and added effort to run an instore location.... I think shoppers will start gravitating to the web as they get more comfortable with it and realize they dont have to deal with GRID lag |
[16:51] | BizTutor Magic: | This one won't. |
[16:51] | Cara Ametza: | Not all shopppers Toy, but yes I'm sure some will. But others much prefer exploring the grid and seeing shops in person. |
[16:51] | Pink Linden: | the #1 use case shoppers said to us was that they shop on Xstreet WHILE being in world at a club, evnet or another store. |
[16:51] | Keaira Karas: | Exploring the grid is becoming more and more difficult |
[16:51] | Pink Linden: | so we see (excuse the buzzword) synergies everywhere. |
[16:51] | Cara Ametza: | I shop from my workshop! |
[16:52] | dana Archer: | I shop in my sleep lol |
[16:52] | Fleep Tuque: | I tend to browse on Xstreet and then TP to the store to actually buy |
[16:52] | Baldtraveller Shan: | ditto |
[16:52] | Argus Collingwood | nods |
[16:52] | Pink Linden: | Fleep, that's another key use case. |
[16:52] | Toysoldier Thor: | again i dont care as my inworld costs are REAL LOW and xstreet costs are directly tied to my sales and it makes over 70% of my sales.... so not a personal issue for me... moreso the big Grid inworld merchs |
[16:52] | Ann Otoole: | i am also wondering why LL is pushing people away from their cash cow. I no longer needed a sim. my tier costs just dropped from 300 to 50 a month. i can make more on xstreet by paying LL less in tier. makes sense to me but not for LL. |
[16:52] | Jarnz Dench: | me too, broswe and TP |
[16:52] | Mimika Oh: | I have topics not about beta. Please ignore if not time: integration with non-LL vendor systems, and availability of reliable delivery to non-LL vendor systems. Please ignore if out of scope. I will send notecard. |
[16:52] | Pink Linden: | thanks Mimika |
[16:53] | Pink Linden: | Ann, we have also seen a number of land owners start on xstreet and move in world as their sales grew |
[16:53] | Pink Linden: | it goes both ways. |
[16:53] | Toysoldier Thor: | exactly Ann - that is what i am saying |
[16:53] | Brooke Fairplay: | so when these changes are made we will have to relist all our items right? |
[16:53] | dana Archer: | I would still like to know if refunds etc have been incorporated |
[16:53] | Pink Linden: | brooke, no. your listings will be ported over. |
[16:53] | Fleep Tuque: | No Brooke, it said everything would be ported over for you |
[16:53] | Mimika Oh: | For me, 99.5% (really), XSL is an ad for my in-world store only at present. |
[16:53] | Brooke Fairplay: | whew |
[16:53] | Pink Linden: | you may wish to edit though, the merchant wiki has all the deatils. |
[16:53] | Fleep Tuque: | The blog post is at http://blogs.secondlife.com/community/commerce/blog/2010/05/03/announcing-the-second-life-marketplace-beta |
[16:53] | Pink Linden: | before I move on to aspect ratios (with a surprise) any more discussion on merchant value? |
[16:54] | Fleep Tuque: | Merchant wiki at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Frequently_asked_questions_about_the_Second_Life_Marketplace_for_merchants |
[16:54] | Brooke Fairplay: | i got links on all mine which i guess will need to be changed if bb code will be gone |
[16:54] | Toysoldier Thor: | did i miss the question answer on how ratings will be handled.... right now the xstreet ratings SUCK! |
[16:54] | BizTutor Magic: | Service economy benefit? |
[16:54] | Baldtraveller Shan: | Speaking of both ways. Will we be aloud to sell our items cheaper in world when the new site is done? |
[16:54] | Mimika Oh: | Do we change SLX to XSL now it's SLMô? |
[16:54] | Pink Linden: | SLM is fine |
[16:54] | Ashasekayi Ra: | She said ratings stay the same Toy |
[16:54] | Pink Linden: | or The Marketplace. |
[16:54] | Mimika Oh: | Ah! TMô! |
[16:54] | Toysoldier Thor: | great... still SUCK |
[16:54] | Pink Linden: | whatever TLA you like |
[16:54] | Pink Linden: | ;) |
[16:54] | Ashasekayi Ra | nods. |
[16:55] | Pink Linden: | ok, on aspect ratios. we put together a little survey |
[16:55] | Ann Otoole: | what about item discussion that is used to warn people of copybotted stuff and scams? Is item discussions going to vanish? |
[16:55] | Pink Linden: | I'd like to ask this group to take it when we're done |
[16:55] | Cara Ametza: | I see a lot of discussion threads abused and spiral out of control though too. |
[16:55] | Toysoldier Thor: | will the unfair top selling ranks and its positioning of these listings in search change? |
[16:55] | BizTutor Magic: | Count me out on the survey. I don't post pics there anyway. :) |
[16:55] | Pink Linden: | it has questions about several areas of the marketplace we're finalizing that you also might want to have input on. |
[16:55] | Pink Linden: | here's the link. it only allows 100- responses, so we'll do a different one at tonight's office hours |
[16:55] | Pink Linden: | http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22ALG4VAVX8 |
[16:55] | Cara Ametza: | Sounds good, looking forward to it. |
[16:56] | Kiara Mazi: | someone's voice is on |
[16:56] | Argus Collingwood: | Pink's mic is on |
[16:56] | Pink Linden: | so please don't forward around. let the folks in room take it |
[16:56] | Argus Collingwood: | kk |
[16:56] | Pink Linden: | good thing you didn't catch me talking about you Argus! LOL |
[16:56] | Argus Collingwood: | LoLLL! |
[16:56] | Cara Ametza: | :o |
[16:56] | Cara Ametza: | busted! |
[16:56] | Cara Ametza: | lol |
[16:56] | Pink Linden: | O_o |
[16:57] | Pink Linden: | or burping or other office hours habits |
[16:57] | Argus Collingwood: | lol |
[16:57] | Pink Linden: | whew. got about 10 mins left. |
[16:57] | Pink Linden: | I'll open the floor for anything I dind't get to |
[16:57] | Argus Collingwood: | biting nails and sitting on hands |
[16:57] | Brooke Fairplay: | are you going to do minutes to send us later as I missed the beginning of this? |
[16:57] | Toysoldier Thor: | [16:55] Toysoldier Thor: will the unfair top selling ranks and its positioning of these listings in search change? |
[16:57] | Ann Otoole: | should have put some maybe options in there lol |
[16:57] | BizTutor Magic: | Took the survey anyway. |
[16:57] | Pink Linden: | yes, Ann, but still good to take the pulse. |
[16:57] | Jarnz Dench: | cart, any reason for that? just seems a bit like overkill |
[16:58] | Taylor Lubezki: | Survey done |
[16:58] | Phoenix Welles: | pink, as to the backend that us merchants see, is it going to remain black on white or will it turn to the default sl color scheme? |
[16:58] | Slater Michalski: | The Survey has to do with Aspect Ratio, was that correct? |
[16:58] | Pink Linden: | Ohai Taylor didn't see you there! |
[16:58] | Ashasekayi Ra: | Can we use HTML in descriptions? |
[16:58] | Dimitrio Lewis: | I clicked on an ad for linden homes furniture recently, and got a page with a bunch of unrelated junk. Is that just tag abuse? |
[16:58] | Mimika Oh: | Pink, it will be a serious problem to re-create images of any size, since this took a long time the first time around. |
[16:58] | BizTutor Magic: | Pink: BENEFITS to the SERVICE side? PLANS to make SLM useable to promote services rather than goods? |
[16:58] | Taylor Lubezki: | LOL I was quiet.. Surprised? |
[16:58] | Pink Linden: | yes, but glad to see you |
[16:58] | Taylor Lubezki: | ;) |
[16:59] | Toysoldier Thor: | will LL rethink the image size?? |
[16:59] | Toysoldier Thor: | its down right dumb |
[16:59] | Toysoldier Thor: | make it 4x3 |
[16:59] | Pink Linden: | toy, given that we're changing search entirely it's a safe guess to say that how listings appear in search will change |
[16:59] | Mimika Oh: | Aspect ratio is irrelevant because any effort at all will make the whole exercise cost more than I will ever make from XSL. |
[16:59] | dana Archer: | Refunds and other customer problems |
[16:59] | Fleep Tuque: | Did I miss the answer on whether HTML will be allowed since BBCode is not? |
[16:59] | BizTutor Magic: | Pink: OR, plans to exclude the service side of things in that marketplace in accord with a blog suggestion? |
[16:59] | Pink Linden: | until we port over we won't be able to see exactly how, and I do expect a lot of changing as merchants enhance thier tools to get the optimal position. |
[16:59] | Rex Cronon: | couldn't u let us tp specify the aspect ratio? |
[17:00] | Ann Otoole: | I suppose as an interim measure I can write a macro to batch resize the canvas on all my pictures to 5:4 and add white space to the sides. However the system should do that automatically so we don't have to reupload thousands of images that are already there. IMHO. |
[17:00] | Mimika Oh: | Second Ann. |
[17:00] | Fleep Tuque: | ++ Ann |
[17:00] | Phoenix Welles: | on storefronts: will we have customizable CSS sheets or log places? |
[17:00] | BizTutor Magic: | Second Ann as well. :) |
[17:00] | Phoenix Welles: | *logo |
[17:00] | Pink Linden: | the system will port over photos ann, I'm actually researching what it will look like |
[17:00] | Rex Cronon: | u could also just resize an image until it fits into a rectangle |
[17:00] | Pink Linden: | I plan to report back to the community next week. |
[17:01] | Pink Linden: | so we hear you loud and clear on aspect ratios. :D |
[17:01] | Cara Ametza: | that could screw up how it looks though Rex not all images can be resized to the same size and still look good |
[17:01] | Fleep Tuque: | would be fine as Ann suggested with whitespace tho |
[17:01] | Rex Cronon: | any image can be resized to fit into a rectangle |
[17:01] | Argus Collingwood: | better 4:5 for fashion so pictures make ya look skinny instead of squat |
[17:01] | Mimika Oh: | FWIW, clothing really needs a portrait-ratio. Most of my images are tall and narrow. |
[17:01] | Pink Linden: | I plan to post a picture of what a sample image will look like at various aspect ratios |
[17:01] | Toysoldier Thor: | that idea is just a workaround though.... |
[17:01] | Toysoldier Thor: | so most of our images will have black or white borders? |
[17:01] | Dusky Jewell: | Please ask the dev to give merchants the ability to preview listing before publish. |
[17:02] | Pink Linden: | we will not vary the aspect ratio across the site. |
[17:02] | Toysoldier Thor: | silly |
[17:02] | Pink Linden: | it will be one for all. |
[17:02] | Rex Cronon: | although u r right, they might not look so good |
[17:02] | Cara Ametza: | Dusky I like that idea |
[17:02] | Argus Collingwood | was kidding lol |
[17:02] | Cara Ametza: | a preview would be really nice |
[17:02] | Mimika Oh: | Pink, will I be able to link to high-res images off-site? |
[17:02] | Pink Linden: | noted on previews. |
[17:02] | Toysoldier Thor: | ohh well - a lot of ugly images on new xstreet |
[17:02] | Toysoldier Thor: | hehe |
[17:02] | Ann Otoole: | anyone that wants to know why i use 1:1 is welcome to go look at my store in blueberry in which i have ktris/fr down to 150. :P maybe boring but easier to shop and it is working. |
[17:02] | Mimika Oh: | Without BBCode, can I link to off-site images? This is important I think to allow customers to see the clothing in detail. |
[17:02] | Cara Ametza: | not without BB Code or HTML Mimika |
[17:02] | Ashasekayi Ra: | Can you use HTML instead of BBCode on the new site? |
[17:03] | Pink Linden: | you can link to your website from the merchant profile |
[17:03] | Mimika Oh: | Pink, that will take many clicks for the customer. |
[17:03] | Fleep Tuque: | But not specific links per listing? |
[17:03] | Mimika Oh: | They have to re-find the product at the other site. |
[17:03] | Fleep Tuque: | nod Mimika |
[17:03] | Phoenix Welles: | Reposting: Will the backend (where we list and make merchant changes) be black and white or SL default color scheme? On storefront options will we have access to CSS to set up our storefront or at least a place for a logo? |
[17:03] | Taylor Lubezki: | We can't forget ease of the customers.. I'd rather it be harder on me than my customers. |
[17:03] | Pink Linden: | yes it will Mimika. We believe that the value of having a clean listing page with product picture front and enter and clear call to action will offset the inconvenience of finding links for corner cases. |
[17:04] | Mimika Oh: | I understand the clean listing idea. But perhaps we could have one URL per product? |
[17:04] | Candace Morgwain: | Taylor I agree, if we have to choose one, make the customers feel at home with ease of use |
[17:04] | Mimika Oh: | A "more details" link? |
[17:04] | Pink Linden: | but we are open to be wrong and will watch the conversion and bounce rates like a hawk |
[17:04] | Fleep Tuque: | Hm, that's not very helpful if you want to link to specific product pages o your website though. |
[17:04] | Otome Exonar: | I second mimika |
[17:04] | Ashasekayi Ra: | So that means we can't use our own HTML tags? O.o |
[17:04] | Cara Ametza: | I do think limited BB Code is very important |
[17:04] | Pink Linden: | Fleep, that can go into the instructions page. you can mention in your description that you have more info there. |
[17:05] | Pink Linden: | and I expect some merchants will use that instructions page for promotional purposes. |
[17:05] | Cara Ametza: | a free for all is not a good idea, but a few allowed codes would be a huge help, free up bandwith used by the site itself, and a lot easier to keep updated |
[17:05] | Pink Linden: | we are going to look into ways to give you guys some basic controls in descriptions like bullets, for example, but this will not be at beta. |
[17:05] | Taylor Lubezki: | how about a notecard delivery button for more information and pics? |
[17:05] | Ashasekayi Ra: | Does the instruction page have a word count limit? |
[17:05] | Cara Ametza: | freeing up bandwith for the site would also appeal to the accounting department at LL too I'm sure ;) |
[17:05] | Pink Linden: | that's a good idea Taylor, thanks. |
[17:05] | Fleep Tuque: | 2000 characters sounds like Asha |
[17:05] | Taylor Lubezki: | Welcome ;) |
[17:05] | Pink Linden: | no ash, it's a .pdf. |
[17:06] | Ashasekayi Ra: | Ahh |
[17:06] | Ashasekayi Ra: | Ok. |
[17:06] | Fleep Tuque: | Oh the instruction page, sorry. |
[17:06] | Toysoldier Thor: | can the Merchant Send a Gift of his item inworld? |
[17:06] | Pink Linden: | gives you alot of flexibility as a merchant to do as you wish without impacting search |
[17:06] | Fleep Tuque: | So can have links in Instructions page of course, and all the formatting you want in the PDF |
[17:06] | Fleep Tuque: | (if you have PDF writer, naturally) ;) |
[17:06] | Ziki Questi: | pink, is there a limit to the size of the pdf? |
[17:06] | Otome Exonar: | which many people dont |
[17:07] | Ashasekayi Ra: | Yes true. Although, some people don't like downloading PDFs. |
[17:07] | Phoenix Welles: | primo pdf prints to pdf.. I use it all the time in combination with word processing software |
[17:07] | Rex Cronon: | some don't even like creating PDFs |
[17:07] | Toysoldier Thor: | if u have Microsoft office 2007 or greater - you all have a PDF writer |
[17:07] | Ziki Questi: | and does the sl viewer have the capacity to display pdfs? |
[17:07] | Pink Linden: | checking on .pdf limit |
[17:07] | Otome Exonar: | I dont feel like spending $300 to get a pdf publisher |
[17:07] | Ann Otoole: | pink is Linden Lab attempting to inentionally prevent merchants from listing a url on the product page? |
[17:08] | Toysoldier Thor: | lol |
[17:08] | Toysoldier Thor: | u dont need to |
[17:08] | Pink Linden: | no Ann, we're looking for consistency in shopping experience. |
[17:08] | Ashasekayi Ra: | There are free PDF creators out there. |
[17:08] | Toysoldier Thor: | PDF publishers or writers are free and also in Office |
[17:08] | Lasher Oh: | homogenised consistency - yummy |
[17:08] | Toysoldier Thor: | costs $0 |
[17:08] | Mimika Oh: | Jumping back a little (sorry I am slow) I do not think jumping to a detailed image of a product you are interested in is a "corner case". |
[17:08] | Pink Linden: | that's the overarching goal. if you look at xstreet now you can see that just making it a clean, simple shopping experience is critical. |
[17:08] | Ziki Questi: | and on macintoshes, all built right in |
[17:08] | Pink Linden: | mimika, large images are in the listing. you asked about hi res images. |
[17:08] | You decline | Rainbow Hunt Information & Application from A group member named Violet Steamweaver. |
[17:09] | Pink Linden: | and making it easier for shoppers will help *all* merchants. |
[17:09] | Mimika Oh: | That is a truism. |
[17:09] | Taylor Lubezki: | I seriously think the Note card button is the best bet.. You can put everything in a note card.. Pics, Options, Instructions, LM's etc.. just put it in the box with your products and select the card for the product.. done deal |
[17:09] | Pink Linden: | imagine the newcomer to second life stumbling on xstreet now |
[17:09] | Cara Ametza: | I do agree that some have abused the usage of BB Code and overused it, but many others such as myself use it responsibly so it enhancs listings, rather than detract |
[17:09] | Otome Exonar: | right.... last time ll made a major change to xstreet my sales were halved |
[17:09] | Phoenix Welles: | ok I have to ask again cause the whole discussion is a moot point for me otherwise... will we be force subjected to look at the SL new default color scheme when listing products in this new ssytem? |
[17:09] | Dartagan Shepherd: | especially with an actual cart, distracting a shopper away from a half filled cart is never good |
[17:10] | Cara Ametza: | what about people who are not in world at the time when they are shopping though? |
[17:10] | Pink Linden: | phoenix, it's a whiie background |
[17:10] | Pink Linden: | with a white header |
[17:10] | Brooke Fairplay: | yea i even hate to shop on xstreet myself, i imagine my customers |
[17:10] | Phoenix Welles: | thanks :) I wanted to make sure it would stay that way |
[17:10] | Taylor Lubezki: | Well how about something for offline to email? |
[17:10] | Pink Linden: | ? |
[17:10] | dana Archer: | I think of Xstreet as a Bazaar, with rich finds tucked in unusual places |
[17:10] | Pink Linden: | I shop all the time when not in world. |
[17:10] | Pink Linden: | my purchases are always waiting for me. |
[17:10] | Brooke Fairplay: | especially my nitch greeting cards, you want a birthday card and there are no catagories at all under greetings |
[17:10] | Taylor Lubezki: | Pfftt you don't buy from me you non-Neko thing you |
[17:11] | Cara Ametza: | mine would be chewed up from capped messages, but others are able to get stuff still lol |
[17:11] | Taylor Lubezki: | I don't make bunny stuffs |
[17:11] | Pink Linden: | amen brooke. we're going to work on cat structure. |
[17:11] | Phoenix Welles: | you mean you don't cap messages as soon as you log off? |
[17:11] | Ann Otoole: | newcomers have been using xstreetsl for years without any issues pink |
[17:11] | Pink Linden: | to reduce complexity and get to ship, we decided to postpone a cat structure move for now. |
[17:11] | dana Archer: | but what happens when you have purchased something and it isnt waiting for you? how is the new market place dealing with that, |
[17:11] | Pink Linden: | but yes, we're going to rethink that proces too, the process for feedback on how we categorize as well. |
[17:11] | Candace Morgwain: | i tried buying things twice offline...the first was a mistake so i should have learned not to do the second, but i just wanted to be sure. Missed and capped was the reason both times |
[17:11] | Otome Exonar: | pink, tbh most newcomers ive wroked with had an eaiser time on xstreet BEFORE LL took it over |
[17:11] | Pink Linden: | look for some information later this summer. |
[17:11] | Kiara Mazi: | ME too |
[17:12] | Pink Linden: | yep capped is the key issue. our delivery rates are excellent but we can do better. |
[17:12] | Mimika Oh: | Pink, when you say "large images" do you mean like the top-left image in http://www.flickr.com/photos/pink_linden/4575532082/ ? |
[17:12] | Pink Linden: | yes |
[17:12] | Cara Ametza: | what about the ability to allow certain items that are marked by the merchant to be redelivered when requested? This would be helpful for full perm or copy items for example. |
[17:12] | Mimika Oh: | I call that small, just to be clear :) |
[17:12] | Toysoldier Thor: | Will the new XSTREET offer free donuts to all shoppers? |
[17:12] | Cara Ametza: | But require it to be something that the merchant has to mark in order for it to work. |
[17:13] | Pink Linden: | Cara, we're thinking more broadly about that...what if we didn't have to worry about the IM system at all? that's the level we're trying to solve for. |
[17:13] | Ziki Questi: | pink: so how large in pixels x pixels is a large image? |
[17:13] | Ann Otoole: | just curious pink. will LL learn about the anti pattern of developer in a box so you guys don't go building something without any real customer requirements and then pop out later alienating your customers and garnering literal hatred? I'd have fired all of you by now. jeez useless |
[17:13] | Cara Ametza: | Oh I would so love Nooooooo! capped messages lol |
[17:13] | Candace Morgwain: | ooh that sounds interesting Pink! |
[17:13] | Candace Morgwain: | get that inworld too! |
[17:13] | Cara Ametza: | but I'm thinking the asset server loses stuff occasionally, people lose stuff and forget where they placed it, so even beyond delivery issues it could still be useful. |
[17:13] | Pink Linden: | long term stuff, but the right solution I think. |
[17:13] | Mimika Oh: | If Pink can answer that Ann I will give you a bear of my own! |
[17:13] | Candace Morgwain: | my customers would LOVE not to have my gifts capped out in their mash of IMs |
[17:14] | Pink Linden: | oh Ann, it wouldn't be office hours without you. I've so missed you. :D |
[17:14] | Otome Exonar: | mine too |
[17:14] | Lorissia Fraisse: | Is enforcement of the rules and structure going to be actively addressed after the Marketplace is in full swing? |
[17:14] | You decline | Summer Rock Hunt Info & Applications from A group member named Duchess Whiteberry. |
[17:14] | Candace Morgwain: | you have bears and didn't give me any? *looks at Cara* |
[17:14] | Toysoldier Thor: | yeah it sure would be nice if LL would put up a new features and bug fixes jira and abide by the voting and priority of the requirements we have for the site |
[17:14] | Otome Exonar: | (and yes im on a non dev alt for the two of you that asked. |
[17:14] | Pink Linden: | ah yes, thanks for asking about jira Toy |
[17:14] | Cara Ametza: | I don't have bears!!!! I'm innocent!! |
[17:14] | Toysoldier Thor: | not get surprised at these meetings with "look what we r giving u now" |
[17:14] | Candace Morgwain: | i haz no bear! |
[17:14] | Taylor Lubezki: | My main concern with new or old xstreet is copybotted stuff.. where do we stand on that? |
[17:15] | Cara Ametza: | you haz cute!! You need Nooooooo! bear!! |
[17:15] | Pink Linden: | wanted to point out as we said on merchant wiki we are going to start closing pjiras that are being solved in new platform |
[17:15] | Taylor Lubezki: | I've never had a bear let alone seen one.. Lindens don't like me.. :P |
[17:15] | Cara Ametza: | copybotted stuff is a problem, and so are freebies that are listed over, and over and over, and over and over again |
[17:15] | Otome Exonar: | and if the new platrform turns out to be a failure will you reopen them pink? |
[17:15] | Ann Otoole: | i am pleased to announce that I have received no further cryoban detection messages since April 30th. |
[17:15] | Cara Ametza: | not sure how to solve those issues though |
[17:15] | Taylor Lubezki: | When can we expect a large focus on that? |
[17:15] | Ann Otoole: | LL has done something very right |
[17:15] | Toysoldier Thor: | the Jira system is being shut down? |
[17:15] | Candace Morgwain: | yay Ann! |
[17:15] | Dusky Jewell: | excellent Ann :) |
[17:16] | Pink Linden: | wow ann! |
[17:16] | Pink Linden: | tha'ts huge! |
[17:16] | Rex Cronon: | cryoban? |
[17:16] | Mimika Oh: | Pink, could you close them after beta has been available for a time, to confirm that we believe they are closed in fact? |
[17:16] | Ashasekayi Ra: | That's seriously good news. |
[17:16] | Pink Linden: | no toy, we're going to close them so you can see what's still open |
[17:16] | Toysoldier Thor: | ohhh |
[17:16] | Ann Otoole: | yea my email inbox is not full of rippers anymore |
[17:16] | Pink Linden: | mimika they'll be able to be seen, they'll just be marked closed. |
[17:16] | Cara Ametza: | Which is really good to hear. |
[17:17] | Otome Exonar: | pink, and if the stuff is NOT actually solved will we be able to reopen them? |
[17:17] | Pink Linden: | Otome, oh ye of little faith |
[17:17] | Pink Linden: | I'll actually be closing them myself |
[17:17] | Cara Ametza: | new bugs appear all the time lol so something that used to work could suddenly break |
[17:17] | Toysoldier Thor: | ohhh Pink..... when will your team fix the stupid merged accounts sales reporting method into our inworld transaxction history |
[17:17] | Otome Exonar: | expereince pink has taught me to trust individual lindens but not LL |
[17:17] | Toysoldier Thor: | its utterly useless!! |
[17:18] | Candace Morgwain | kicks Cara |
[17:18] | Candace Morgwain: | shhh |
[17:18] | Pink Linden: | when beta rolls toysoldier the problme should be resolved |
[17:18] | Cara Ametza: | oohhhh that sounds nice, currently putting sales figures in is a major pia |
[17:18] | Pink Linden: | but we want to limit dev on the old platform in order to speed progress to the new |
[17:18] | Ann Otoole: | oh yea hey any chance of reporting tools like top sellers and top customers? |
[17:18] | Toysoldier Thor: | will th enew site offer better longer term transaction history? |
[17:19] | Mimika Oh: | Just checking: are RSS feeds supported in the new SLM? |
[17:19] | Toysoldier Thor: | or will it get worse by becoming part of inworld history? |
[17:19] | Mimika Oh: | (At least the ones that were there before I mean.) |
[17:19] | Pink Linden: | I think the reporting out of box is a significant improvement at beta, but it will by no means be a starship enterprise level dashboard. |
[17:19] | dana Archer: | will the new site still hold all the old sales data? |
[17:20] | Pink Linden: | our focus in this release was 1) feature parity on new architecture 2) kick butt shopper experience 3) ship ASAP. |
[17:20] | Phoenix Welles | echoes ann's question as top sellers and top customers would be REALLY useful data |
[17:20] | Pink Linden: | +1 phoenix |
[17:20] | Pink Linden: | once you can all see what's out of box then we can talk about what to do next |
[17:20] | Pink Linden: | and open a whole slew of new PJiras |
[17:20] | Candace Morgwain: | lol |
[17:20] | Rex Cronon: | "kick butt shopper experience"? |
[17:20] | Fleep Tuque: | I must run, thanks so much Pink, and to all for good (civil!) questions. :) wave! |
[17:20] | Cara Ametza: | Can we just sell to shoppers and not hurt them pretty please? |
[17:20] | Mimika Oh: | Rex, that's adult preference item. |
[17:20] | Pink Linden: | I'm so excited guys. not that you should care about me, but I've been waiting a long time to share this and am excited for what comes next. |
[17:20] | Toysoldier Thor: | i am glad to see that the algorythm for top sales ranked products will not give these products a serach results advantage anymore! |
[17:21] | Toysoldier Thor: | that was a dumb idea |
[17:21] | Ann Otoole: | there was a hint of it in the survey around a type of banner ad thingie that looked interesting. (ties into dropping from 300 to 50 a month in tier allows for marketing investments) |
[17:21] | Mimika Oh: | So why wait to share it? |
[17:21] | Pink Linden: | Mimika a month ago I wouldn't have beena ble to answer any of the questions you guys have asked |
[17:21] | Otome Exonar: | this sounds scarily like the travesty that was the release of viewer 2.0 . I'll wiat and see but if the new SLM cuts my sales any more I may as well just close up |
[17:21] | Rex Cronon: | i pink that only good things will come:) |
[17:21] | Pink Linden: | so it would have been an exercise in frustration. no pictures, no information. |
[17:21] | Mimika Oh: | But we might have accepted that in return for collaboration. |
[17:21] | Pink Linden: | and it would have scared a lot of folks. |
[17:21] | Mimika Oh: | Perhaps we are not so scaredy as you think. |
[17:21] | Cara Ametza: | I'm hoping that they learned a few things from the mistakes of Viewer 2.0 -.- |
[17:22] | Pink Linden: | which it may still do but at least now we have information to share. |
[17:22] | Candace Morgwain: | My sales are only increasing on XStreet so I'm anxious to see the newness myself. Ready to get in there and maximize listings |
[17:22] | Cara Ametza: | After you get me my submission little girl! |
[17:22] | Cara Ametza | hides |
[17:22] | Pink Linden: | there was a lot of merchant input into this. we have Pjira, blogs, forums, office hours, and lots and lots of datas |
[17:22] | Candace Morgwain: | dangit |
[17:22] | Toysoldier Thor: | ok generally this will be a much better place then we have now - just for the fact that SEARCH will finally be fixed in the right way AND LL has a development environment that they can actaully respond to our 1+ years of requests |
[17:22] | Pink Linden: | datas? sorry typing too fast. |
[17:22] | Mimika Oh: | If I may, sometimes LL seems afraid to reveal because there is so much tinfoilhattery, but maybe if it did, there would be less. It is vicious cycle. |
[17:22] | Pink Linden: | ok. time for a supper break for me. will be back at 8pm pacific time. |
[17:23] | Mimika Oh: | Thank you Pink. |
[17:23] | Phoenix Welles: | I can has bear pwease? |
[17:23] | Toysoldier Thor: | Time for American Idol!!! I am late |
[17:23] | Rex Cronon: | tc pink |
[17:23] | Ziki Questi: | thank you pink |
[17:23] | Taylor Lubezki: | It will be easy to tell if I like it.. If I have more than 8 things listed.. :P |
[17:23] | Cara Ametza: | Sounds good, looking forward to it. |
[17:23] | Toysoldier Thor: | later all!!! |
[17:23] | Candace Morgwain: | thanks Pink |
[17:23] | Ashasekayi Ra: | Later Pink. Thans. |
[17:23] | Rex Cronon: | bye everybody |
[17:23] | Ashasekayi Ra: | *Thanks |
[17:23] | Kiara Mazi: | Enjoy Supper Pink |
[17:23] | Phoenix Welles: | and hapy supper |
[17:23] | dana Archer: | take care...bye bye for now |
[17:23] | Pink Linden: | bear is coming to those who sent me transcripts. look for it later tonight! |
[17:23] | Ashasekayi Ra: | Bye Toy |
[17:23] | Toysoldier Thor: | wavessss |
[17:23] | Cara Ametza: | o/ |
[17:23] | Toysoldier Thor: | ? |
[17:23] | Cara Ametza | runs back to workshop |
[17:23] | Candace Morgwain: | *shoves cara* |
[17:23] | Toysoldier Thor: | see ya in the papers! |
[17:23] | Ann Otoole: | you know we loves you pink. otherwise we would not self flagellate in SL daily hoping it will improve back to 2007 growth. :P |
[17:23] | Cara Ametza: | oh Nooooooo! you didn't! |
[17:23] | Taylor Lubezki: | I can never make the first one to get transscripts.. that's no fair.. :( lol |
[17:23] | Cara Ametza | shoves Candace back |
[17:24] | Candace Morgwain: | *runs away* |
[17:24] | dana Archer: | was that before or after the Gambling closure , Ann? |
[17:24] | Brooke Fairplay: | transcripts? |
[17:24] | Ann Otoole: | gambling never affected me at all |
[17:24] | Taylor Lubezki: | I will remain bearless for all my SL life.. oh the shame.. |
[17:24] | Brooke Fairplay: | what transcripts does she want? |
[17:25] | Taylor Lubezki: | fromt he first OH |
[17:25] | dana Archer: | well if provided a lot of income for people to spend |
