當您使用一般的交談 (Chat) 功能時，離您 20 公尺以內的人可以聽到您說話，喊叫 (Shout) 的範圍則為 100 公尺。

您可能會發現某些人的交談文字訊息是灰色，有些則是白色的，那是因為離您較遠的人所說出的話會以灰色顯示。

您還可以直接傳送即時訊息 (IM，Instant Message) 給別人或整個團體 (Group) 的成員，無論他們在 Second Life 世界的哪個角落。方法是按一下畫面左下角的 [IM] 按鈕，然後選擇交談對象。即時訊息是非公開的訊息，只有您指定的人或團體才聽得到。
