Transcript of Oskar Linden's Beta Server Office Hour for September 30th, 2010:

  • [15:00] Flynn Tigerpaw: Hi Oskar
  • [15:00] Oskar Linden: how are you all today?
  • [15:00] Marigold Devin: unstable
  • [15:00] Marigold DevinMarigold: Devin waves hi at everyone
  • [15:00] Flynn Tigerpaw: rusty
  • [15:00] Lares Carter: doing okay, bit tired
  • [15:00] Latif Khalifa: hey oskar
  • [15:02] Joel Savard: hi luf
  • [15:02] Oskar Linden: I figured out what was casuing the annoyance last week
  • [15:02] lufpleh Obstreperous: Hi Joel
  • [15:02] Oskar Linden: the previous throne had been tweaked to have an annoying youtube video as MOAP on a hidden face
  • [15:02] Oskar Linden: so yeah, thanks to whoever did that :-p
  • [15:03] Oskar Linden: I filed ajira that moap needs beacons support
  • [15:03] Rex Cronon: greetings everybody
  • [15:03] Oskar Linden: anyway, here is our agenda: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Beta_Server_Office_Hours#Agenda
  • [15:04] Oskar Linden: this has been a rough week
  • [15:04] Oskar Linden: release wise
  • [15:04] Oskar Linden: I'm down in SF though and that is nice. great weather here
  • [15:04] Oskar Linden: thanks to kelly for arranging that
  • [15:04] Jacky Scharf: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.
  • [15:04] Jacky's translator: Boa noite, senhores e senhoras.
  • [15:04] Lares Carter: whats the jira for moap beacons?
  • [15:05] Rex Cronon: hi
  • [15:05] Oskar Linden: I forget Lares.
  • [15:05] Lares Carter: heya Maestro :) nice cube you had there
  • [15:05] Oskar Linden: hey maestro
  • [15:05] Aeron Constantine: greetings Maestro
  • [15:05] Maestro Linden: hi guys :)
  • [15:05] Rex Cronon: hi maestro
  • [15:05] Oskar Linden: so Tuesday morning we rolled Second Life Server 10.09.21.210146 to the full grid
  • [15:06] Psi Merlin: Hi Maestro
  • [15:06] Oskar Linden: and that seems to be doing fine
  • [15:06] Oskar Linden: but then we rolled out a new RC wednesday morning
  • [15:06] Ellla McMahon: * VWR-23162
  • Beacons need support for Media On A Prim
  • [15:06] JIRA-helper: http//jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-23162:
  • [#VWR-23162] Beacons need: support for Media On A Prim
  • [15:06] Oskar Linden: and things weren't so good
  • [15:06] Jonathan Yap: I have a viewer with MoaP beacons; if the code ever is finished it will be released to the public
  • [15:07] Marigold Devin: there's been some positive feedback on sim crossings issue
  • [15:07] Oskar Linden: yesterday had a whole pile of unrelated issues adding up to a poor experience
  • [15:07] Marigold Devin: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-472
  • [15:07] [[User:JIRA-helper: [#SVC-472|JIRA-helper: [#SVC-472]]:
  • [15:07] Oskar Linden: the first was a sim crashing bug
  • [15:07] Oskar Linden: then there was an issue with S3 that made requests from there to tkae longer than normal
  • [15:08] Oskar Linden: then there was another issue that made apache2 kinda die
  • [15:08] Oskar Linden: but not dead enough to get restarted
  • [15:08] Oskar Linden: so things like editing notecards and saving scripts were failing
  • [15:08] Oskar Linden: we fixed the sim crasher and rolloed forward to that version last night
  • [15:08] Jacky Scharf: Is it able there're some difficulties with avatars due to one of the changes? This avatar had some problems, an alt of me is fully black and in "Editing appearance" there're no pictures.
  • [15:09] Oskar Linden: to get a larger pool of smaple data we rolled 10.09.27.210805 to BlueSteel and LeTigre
  • [15:09] Oskar Linden: so that means that both those RC channels have the same new server code
  • [15:10] Oskar Linden: this is the first time TCMalloc has been on the man grid in a long time
  • [15:10] Oskar Linden: Babbage was quite pleased. Today is his last day
  • [15:10] Gooden Uggla: sandboxes or to all pilot regions?
  • [15:10] Oskar Linden: so he was excited to see that project out there before he left
  • [15:10] JB Hancroft: nice
  • [15:10] Oskar Linden: all BlueSteel and LeTigre regions gooden
  • [15:11] Gooden Uggla: yup, that's cool
  • [15:11] Oskar Linden: ~18% of the grid
  • [15:11] Gooden Uggla: oh geez...
  • [15:11] Joel Savard: it seems that marketplace and other delivery transactions have been failing at a pretty high rate in the last week or so... i don't have hard data, but "seems to be higher"... is that correlated with any of this? (re editing nc's and saving scripts)
  • [15:11] Oskar Linden: possible Joel.
  • [15:11] Joel Savard: ok
  • [15:11] Oskar Linden: it's always hard to diagnose issues during the rolling restarts
  • [15:11] Oskar Linden: now that the dust has settled it's easier
  • [15:11] Joel Savard: ticket rate on "bought item x and didn't get there" has gone up significantly
  • [15:12] Joel SavardJoel: Savard doesn't want to derail agenda - just didn't know if it should be noted here while talking abouit inventoryish things :)
  • [15:13] Oskar Linden: I don't know what has been specifically causing issues like that, but we got a few notes about it, but no hard data
  • [15:13] Oskar Linden: I guess just keep an eye on it and try to get a good repro and then file a jira
  • [15:13] Joel Savard: ok
  • [15:14] Joel Savard: uhhuh repro... we can try :)
  • [15:14] Aeron Constantine: it's not hard :X
  • [15:14] Joel Savard: *glances askance at aeron and tries not to chuckle*
  • [15:14] Oskar Linden: I'm excited to see how tcmalloc does on the main grid
  • [15:15] Oskar Linden: tcmalloc is on and enabled at the RC sandboxes
  • [15:15] Latif Khalifa: i'm hoping it provides useful info on why sim freezesa are increasing with uptime
  • [15:15] Oskar Linden: so if you guys want to go have extra special 'fun' there... feel free
  • [15:15] Oskar Linden: me too latif
  • [15:16] Jacky Scharf: Yesterday I came back to SL after 6 months forced RL ... what's TCMalloc?
  • [15:16] Jacky's translator: Yesterday I came back to SL after 6 months forced RL ... what's TCMalloc?
  • [15:16] Oskar Linden: the apache2 issue we have in this RC might hold us back from releasing next week
  • [15:16] Aeron Constantine: it basicly stalled?
  • [15:17] Oskar Linden: Jacky. TCMalloc is a memory allocator
  • [15:17] Oskar Linden: works things behind the scenes at a very low level
  • [15:17] Oskar Linden: functioanlly the same, but gives us the ability to profile poorly performing sims live
  • [15:17] Oskar Linden: which is nice
  • [15:17] Kelly Linden: tcmalloc's real benefit is the insight it gives us into what memory is being used by the simulator so we can better diagnose issues particularly memory bloat and memory leaks.
  • [15:18] Jacky Scharf: Oh, great. Thx.
  • [15:18] Jacky's translator: Oh, great. Thx.
  • [15:18] Oskar Linden: what kelly said
  • [15:19] Maestro Linden: sorry about that, lost my connection
  • [15:19] Oskar Linden: so one of the requirements of acceptance in our new process is an RC needs to be stable with no new builds or major bugs or crashes for 6 days
  • [15:19] Oskar Linden: if we get the apache2 thing fixed and rolled out this week it doesn't leave enough time for a release next Tuesday
  • [15:19] Oskar Linden: so there might not be one
  • [15:20] Oskar Linden: but that's ok
  • [15:20] Ovaltine Constantine: If there are new builds or major bugs or crashes, does it sort of reset the timer on the 6 days
  • [15:20] JB Hancroft: is there a jira for the apache2 thing?
  • [15:20] Oskar Linden: not a public one
  • [15:20] JB Hancroft: can you summarize what the issue is?
  • [15:20] Oskar Linden: yeah
  • [15:20] Oskar Linden: apache doesn't restart properly
  • [15:20] Oskar Linden: it gets stuck
  • [15:21] Oskar Linden: manual process is killing all instances and restarting
  • [15:21] Oskar Linden: it's just getting stuck
  • [15:21] Oskar Linden: more or less
  • [15:21] Lares Carter: hi Bambers
  • [15:21] Oskar Linden: hi bambers :-)
  • [15:21] Bambers Linden: hi Lares :) Oskar
  • [15:22] Oskar Linden: so next Tuesday might be a relaxing one for the grid. no RR it seems
  • [15:22] JB Hancroft: is LL the only installation with this problem with apache2? that's odd
  • [15:22] Rex Cronon: greetings
  • [15:22] Kelly Linden: it isn't specifically with apache2 but with a wsgi module we wrote/use.
  • [15:22] Kelly Linden: ie it isn't an apache bug
  • [15:23] Oskar Linden: right
  • [15:23] JB Hancroft: ok, thanks
  • [15:24] Oskar Linden: so did you guys see the blog about mesh coming out soon?
  • [15:24] Flynn Tigerpaw: yes! can't wait!
  • [15:24] Rex Cronon: u mean mesh beta
  • [15:24] JB Hancroft: public beta
  • [15:24] Oskar Linden: right
  • [15:24] Lares Carter: yes 13.10.2010, awesome! very excited
  • [15:24] JB Hancroft: the Blender group in SL now has over 1000 members.
  • [15:24] Oskar Linden: aditi is gonna be hopping!
  • [15:25] Rex Cronon: right
  • [15:25] JB Hancroft: what sort of load changes do you anticipate with the mesh beta, on the servers?
  • [15:25] Joel Savard: yet another group i don't have a group slot for :D
  • [15:25] Oskar Linden: I'm trying to estimate numbers for the amount of people going to participate in that beta
  • [15:25] Ovaltine Constantine: Is aditio going to become the playground for big profects like this
  • [15:25] Oskar Linden: I think it's going to be a lot
  • [15:25] Oskar Linden: yes Ovaltine
  • [15:25] lufpleh Obstreperous: thought mesh beta was going to seperate grid/set of servers
  • [15:25] Oskar Linden: the mesh public beta will be on special regions and channels
  • [15:26] Oskar Linden: it's on this grid
  • [15:26] Rex Cronon: imagine... all the things from other games that can finally be "transffered" here:)
  • [15:26] Oskar Linden: but in a special channel and regions
  • [15:26] Oskar Linden: Rex. I do believe that legal and support will be keeping an eye out for that activity, so be careful
  • [15:27] Latif Khalifa: threre is plenty of creative commons stuff out there
  • [15:27] JB Hancroft: IP attorney fieldday
  • [15:27] Maestro Linden: the regions with mesh support conveniently have names that start with "Mesh" :)
  • [15:27] Joel Savard: rex... you're thinking second life will become "renderosity 2"? :)
  • [15:27] Oskar Linden: stick with that
  • [15:27] Rex Cronon: u don't have to be careful if u don't bring anything over:)
  • [15:27] Oskar Linden:  :-)
  • [15:27] Joel Savard: just kidding btw
  • [15:27] Joel Savard: kinda
  • [15:27] Joel Savard: sorta
  • [15:27] Rex Cronon: what is renderosity 2?
  • [15:27] Gooden Uggla: mesh import isn't going to be just 10L each, so don't go getting your hopes too high
  • [15:27] Oskar Linden: I'm sure we'll have more to talk about once mesh goes public beta
  • [15:28] Oskar Linden: we're still working out the pricing / prim impact for mesh
  • [15:28] Gooden Uggla: what oskar said
  • [15:28] Oskar Linden: it will probably take some tweaking
  • [15:28] Oskar Linden: that's not the point of the beta though
  • [15:28] Latif Khalifa: Falcon needs some tweaking there too :P
  • [15:28] JB Hancroft: heh
  • [15:28] Oskar Linden: falcon has tweaking he is doing
  • [15:29] Gooden Uggla: yup, the cool part is that you'll get to destroy sims on aditi using mesh !
  • [15:29] Jonathan Yap: Does it look like llCastRay will also be in the mesh beta?
  • [15:29] Latif Khalifa: he insist on prim cost chaging on mesh object resize, wehich is really very bad idea
  • [15:29] Oskar Linden: I hope we have enough regions set up
  • [15:29] Aeron ConstantineAeron: Constantine perks up about llCastRay
  • [15:29] Aeron Constantine: you read my mind Jonathan
  • [15:29] Maestro Linden: Jonathan, yes that looks like it'll happen
  • [15:29] Aeron Constantine: \o/
  • [15:29] JB Hancroft: how many other things will be changing at the same times as the start of the mesh beta? I'd recommend nothing else...
  • [15:29] Oskar Linden: the mesh stuff is not a magical thing with no impact on the servers
  • [15:29] Oskar Linden: that stuff has to be worked out somehow
  • [15:30] Oskar Linden: the mesh server code is mostly mesh related
  • [15:30] Gooden Uggla: you mean like mono was :)
  • [15:30] Oskar Linden: it will have phsyics changes as well
  • [15:30] Gooden UgglaGooden: Uggla ducks*
  • [15:30] Joel Savard: was?
  • [15:30] Joel Savard: *ducks*
  • [15:30] Lares Carter: what kind of physics changes?
  • [15:30] Aeron ConstantineAeron: Constantine watches bunnies go offworld
  • [15:30] JB Hancroft: /mw wonders where all the ducks are coming from...
  • [15:30] Oskar Linden: don't piss off kelly guys. he's your only hope for a new and better scripting world
  • [15:31] Oskar Linden: and he's writing down all your UUID's
  • [15:31] Gooden Uggla: we love kelly
  • [15:31] Latif Khalifa: i hear visual basic is the new script language :P
  • [15:31] Gooden Uggla: and we'll love him even more when mono gets fixed :)
  • [15:31] JB Hancroft: Kelly rocks. It's Kelly's Crazy Plan we worry about ;)
  • [15:31] Rex Cronon: i wonder if using raycast we can actually scan an avatar and his/hers attachments
  • [15:31] Oskar Linden: the KCP has been working very well
  • [15:31] Joel SavardJoel: Savard waves hi to kelly and knows he already has my uuid in a "special file" next to that "special file on the floor next to the desk" :)
  • [15:32] Joel Savard: no no no kelly does NOT make crazy plans
  • [15:32] Gooden UgglaGooden: Uggla agrees with oscar, less disruptions
  • [15:32] Maestro Linden: I would be very surprised if llCastRay detected attachments, since they aren't actually in the physics engine
  • [15:32] Joel Savard: havok on the on the other hand may not have picked their name randomly :)
  • [15:32] Maestro Linden: but you could probably use that function to 'draw' an avatar's collision shape..
  • [15:33] JB Hancroft: right - there's an example in the wiki
  • [15:33] Rex Cronon: which is a cylinder. right?
  • [15:34] JB Hancroft: sort of faceted... coffin-like... a large "pill"?
  • [15:34] Joel Savard: do you take coffins in the morning, jb?
  • [15:34] Maestro Linden: it's not quite a cylinder.. I'd say it looks more like a coffin
  • [15:34] Joel Savard: double ended rocket
  • [15:34] Maestro Linden: pretty much as JB describes heh
  • [15:34] JB Hancroft: Joel :)
  • [15:35] Oskar Linden: so yeah
  • [15:35] Oskar Linden:  :-)
  • [15:35] Rex Cronon: gee. i had no idea u guys loved twilight so much that u put us all in coffins:)
  • [15:35] Oskar Linden: we've talked about prod, the new rc, and mesh
  • [15:35] Oskar Linden: what else is there?
  • [15:35] JB Hancroft: ahem
  • [15:35] Gooden Uggla: mono?
  • [15:35] Gooden Uggla:  :)
  • [15:35] Oskar Linden: Rex. Twilight loved our coffins so much they wrote those books
  • [15:35] Rex Cronon: haha
  • [15:35] Oskar Linden: kelly you wanna talk about mono?
  • [15:35] JB Hancroft: Hubris Linden
  • [15:36] Kelly Linden: We put in the paperwork to get a grid setup to start QA testing it today.
  • [15:36] Gooden Uggla: hubris linden got laid off, his name was tom hale
  • [15:36] Kelly Linden: We think we have the last of the serialization errors that were plaguing us finally whipped
  • [15:36] Gooden Uggla: awesome news kelly!
  • [15:36] Latif Khalifa: \O/
  • [15:36] JB Hancroft: that's great!!!
  • [15:36] Kelly Linden: a huge thanks to Ambroff recently.
  • [15:37] Oskar Linden: ambroff is a champ
  • [15:37] Gooden Uggla: ambroff is on a roll!
  • [15:37] Latif Khalifa: Ambroff also killed 5 min lockout thingie. Ok lets make him cool dude of the week :D
  • [15:37] Joel Savard: is there an advantage in terms of sim load to only compile scripts as mono that "need it" these days (ie after these fixes) or are we close to "mono is better"?
  • [15:37] JB Hancroft: woot! He gets a special glowing tag, right?
  • [15:38] Gooden Uggla: no joel, not yet
  • [15:38] Latif Khalifa: Joel, mono is better, except on rezzing stuff
  • [15:38] Kelly Linden: these fixes should address the 'except on rezzing' aspect
  • [15:38] Gooden Uggla: and attachments, and on small scripts, anad and and...
  • [15:38] Joel Savard: rats
  • [15:38] Gooden Uggla: joel, it's getting there
  • [15:38] Gooden Uggla: thanks kelly :)
  • [15:39] Gooden Uggla: and thanks ambroff!
  • [15:39] JB Hancroft: but mono does share code space, correct? so if you have many many of the same object rezzed in a region?
  • [15:39] Kelly Linden: well, the attachments is the same rezzing issue, just applied to tps / region crossing
  • [15:39] Joel Savard: so if the script rezzes anything, general good practice is to leave it as non-mono, but mono for the rest? (or do mono scripts carry higher memory load automatically even if they're small)
  • [15:39] Joel Savard: small in terms of code size and ram allocation re number of variables etc
  • [15:39] Gooden Uggla: mono scripts have been allocating 64k no matter the script size
  • [15:39] Kelly Linden: there are some specific bugs around adding a mono script to the world, from rez, tp or region cross, that we are addresing.
  • [15:39] Latif Khalifa: Gooden, not true
  • [15:40] Joel Savard: ok thanks
  • [15:40] Gooden Uggla: really? when did a dynamic foo9tprint start?
  • [15:40] Latif Khalifa: Gooden, since mono was released
  • [15:40] Kelly Linden: when mono started, gooden.
  • [15:40] Gooden Uggla: awesome
  • [15:40] JB Hancroft: lots of urban legend/rumors around mono
  • [15:40] Kelly Linden: Average mono script in SL uses ~9-10k
  • [15:40] Gooden Uggla: and now it'll work
  • [15:40] Latif Khalifa: yeah, because reporting tools report "reserved" memory not actually used mem
  • [15:41] Joel Savard: kelly, even though the real server ram allocation is dynamice
  • [15:41] Latif Khalifa: so people think mono scripts uses 64k
  • [15:41] Joel Savard: ^^ latif - but it "looks" like they use lots of ram?
  • [15:41] Joel Savard: in the inworld tools?
  • [15:41] Latif Khalifa: Joes, yes, looks to the tools
  • [15:41] Gooden Uggla: so is that memory actually usable?
  • [15:41] JB Hancroft: so reserved doesn't actually contribute to VM / swap memory pressure?
  • [15:41] Latif Khalifa: JB, nope
  • [15:41] Latif Khalifa: not until it is actually used
  • [15:41] Kelly Linden: the script-limits reporting tools report the potential max memory the script could use.
  • [15:42] Gooden Uggla: can that get fixed too please?
  • [15:42] Gooden Uggla: *smiles*
  • [15:42] JB Hancroft: but mono does share code space, correct? so if you have many many of the same object rezzed in a region?
  • [15:42] Kelly Linden: for some definition of "fixed" eventually.
  • [15:42] Kelly Linden: jb: yes.
  • [15:42] Joel Savard: *chuckles*
  • [15:42] Latif Khalifa: it would be very useful to have tools report actual memory usaage in addition to reserved
  • [15:42] JB Hancroft: thanks Kelly
  • [15:42] Kelly Linden: jb: but that was also the source of the biggest lag bug with rezing mono scripts
  • [15:42] Gooden Uggla: good enough, thanks :)
  • [15:43] JB Hancroft: the sharing? interesting...
  • [15:43] Gooden Uggla: if we can get 50 avs back on a sim without the crushing lag and freezes, the entire grid will build kelly and ambroff statues all over
  • [15:44] Aeron Constantine: What's the current status on sim load balancing?
  • [15:44] Oskar Linden: mesh statues
  • [15:44] Oskar Linden: I'll get you 3d scans of them
  • [15:44] Gooden Uggla: of course
  • [15:44] Gooden Uggla: thanks oskar!
  • [15:44] Latif Khalifa: you mean the "region director/conductor" i always forget what's it called lol
  • [15:44] JB Hancroft: clothed, please
  • [15:44] Latif Khalifa: i saw it mentioned in one of the rc channels
  • [15:45] Gooden Uggla: we'll make a zindra version - drinking a martini and wearing a thong
  • [15:45] Aeron Constantine: yes Latif
  • [15:46] Oskar Linden: so anything else you want to talk about for the next 14 minutes?
  • [15:46] Gooden Uggla: or a beer and cuttoffs, whatever
  • [15:46] Latif Khalifa: When is the new & improved region conductor getting deployed?
  • [15:46] Oskar Linden: once ambroff perfects it and adds a few more bugs
  • [15:46] Oskar Linden:  ;-)
  • [15:46] Jonathan Yap: So at this point does aditi have whatever is running on the main grid with some additional new changes merged in?
  • [15:46] JB Hancroft: Oskar - progress on setting aside part of the grid for "Production" ?
  • [15:47] Oskar Linden: aditi can have anything
  • [15:47] Oskar Linden: but rarely production code
  • [15:47] Oskar Linden: mostly it is used for sepcific projects
  • [15:47] Lares Carter: oskar, you mentioned physics changes for the public mesh beta, could you give some details?
  • [15:47] Latif Khalifa: it's not called kelly's crazy process for no reason :P
  • [15:47] Oskar Linden: I'll bring falcon in next week to talk about changes
  • [15:47] Maestro Linden: Latif, I think some region conductor improvements will come out after a few weeks..
  • [15:47] JB Hancroft: Let me re-phrase: designating part of Agni for less frequent or scheduled-only restarts?
  • [15:48] Oskar Linden: ambroff said he fixed the account auto updater on aditi. has anyone tried it recently?
  • [15:48] Jonathan Yap: What is the timeframe for the mono update? (If there is one yet)
  • [15:48] Gooden Uggla: JB they're called "estates"
  • [15:48] Flynn Tigerpaw: Mine updated
  • [15:48] Lares Carter: any news about that awesome console feature?
  • [15:48] JB Hancroft: Gooden :)
  • [15:48] Latif Khalifa: I have high hopes that since there are so many quiet sims the new region conductor will have a positive effect on overall lag
  • [15:48] Aeron Constantine: pwd change?
  • [15:48] Oskar Linden: Lares, it should make it in with mesh
  • [15:49] Lares Carter: awesome
  • [15:49] Oskar Linden: but won't be fleshed out with features
  • [15:49] Oskar Linden: but it will be there
  • [15:49] JB Hancroft: will there be sekret notes on what the CLI will support?
  • [15:49] Oskar Linden: not sure
  • [15:49] Oskar Linden: if there are sekret notes you won't see them though
  • [15:49] Oskar Linden: I'll try to make said not unsekret
  • [15:50] JB Hancroft: thanks
  • [15:50] Maestro Linden: so far I've seen 2 CLI commands
  • [15:50] Jonathan Yap: Oskar, has any thought been given to the console keyboard shortcut having ~ in it? -- As this is an issue with some foreign language keyboards
  • [15:50] Oskar Linden: what do you mean?
  • [15:51] Oskar Linden: you mean invoking it with a ~ ?
  • [15:51] Jonathan Yap: I am told the German keyboards don't have that key -- you have to push a few key to get that character
  • [15:51] Oskar Linden: or a `
  • [15:51] Maestro Linden: 1) Restart a region (for estate owners/managers) and 2) toggle terrain physics mode (we added a new 'tri-sampled' mode which offers higher physics detail than usual). that's also only for estate owners/managers
  • [15:51] Jonathan Yap: I am thinking it should be researched before a final decision is made, that's all
  • [15:51] Oskar Linden: I'll ask falcon about it
  • [15:52] Latif Khalifa: Maestro, what, we cannot do find . -owner "Maestro Linden" | xargs rm -rf
  • [15:52] Latif Khalifa: :P
  • [15:52] Bambers Linden: I think the key is usually ` but it's often easier to mention the eyebrow key
  • [15:52] Maestro Linden: hehe
  • [15:52] Lares Carter: german keyboards do have ~
  • [15:53] JB Hancroft: just don't use a german avatar... *duh*
  • [15:53] Oskar Linden: so, as we close out this meeting I thought I'd share something cool
  • [15:53] Oskar Linden: as I mentioned earlier I am in battery office this week
  • [15:54] Oskar Linden: I saw something I thought you would get a kick out of
  • [15:54] Oskar Linden: so I took a picture of it
  • [15:54] Oskar Linden: there you go
  • [15:54] Oskar Linden: that is sim1.agni
  • [15:54] Marigold Devin: Oh hell!!!
  • [15:54] Oskar Linden: in a glass case on the wall
  • [15:55] JB HancroftJB: Hancroft bows in silent reverence...
  • [15:55] Gooden Uggla: da boom?
  • [15:55] Oskar Linden: I thought you guys'd like that
  • [15:55] Rex Cronon: i thought it was pictcture from a bachelor party:)
  • [15:55] Joel Savard: nice... not a pdp-8? :))
  • [15:55] Oskar Linden: heh
  • [15:55] Aeron Constantine: nice cabling...
  • [15:55] Oskar Linden: there was a going away party for a linden last night that got a tad out of control
  • [15:55] Oskar Linden: <_<
  • [15:55] Latif Khalifa: what is it?
  • [15:56] Oskar Linden: that's the first SL sim
  • [15:56] Flynn Tigerpaw: Is it live or a museum piece?
  • [15:56] Jacky Scharf: [15:51
  • [15:56] Jacky's translator: [15:51
  • [15:56] Marigold Devin: It looks like the inside of my head - what a mess
  • [15:56] Oskar Linden: museum
  • [15:56] Jacky Scharf: And yes, we've got ~
  • [15:56] Jacky's translator: And yes, we've got ~
  • [15:56] Marigold Devin: Spike's party by any chance?
  • [15:56] Latif Khalifa: cool
  • [15:56] Flynn Tigerpaw: how old is it?
  • [15:57] Oskar Linden: not sure. 7 years?
  • [15:57] Rex Cronon: hmm. how do i tell u this oskar? i think there r pictures of it already out:)
  • [15:57] Gooden Uggla: 2002 sometime
  • [15:57] Oskar Linden: i'm sure there are
  • [15:57] Kelly Linden: closer to 8 at least
  • [15:57] Marigold Devin: Well I've never seen it before, so thank you Oskar
  • [15:57] Oskar Linden: but I hadn't seen them
  • [15:57] Jonathan Yap: What region is running on that now? :P
  • [15:57] Lares Carter: thanks for sharing oskar
  • [15:57] JB Hancroft: the asset server ;)
  • [15:57] Oskar Linden: I found a stack of sim2-20 in a secluded hallway
  • [15:57] Latif Khalifa: lol
  • [15:57] Oskar Linden: I felt bad for them
  • [15:57] Rex Cronon: nice of u to bring an updated on:)
  • [15:58] Oskar Linden: just on the floor. no museum cases
  • [15:58] Jonathan YapJonathan: Yap loves secluded hallways
  • [15:58] Rex Cronon: one*
  • [15:58] Marigold Devin: If only sims could talk :-P
  • [15:58] Oskar Linden: yeah
  • [15:58] Kelly Linden: sim1 was home to da boom.
  • [15:58] Gooden Uggla: that's pretty awesome, thanks oskar
  • [15:58] Flynn Tigerpaw: maybe they should be setup as a museum grid?
  • [15:58] Oskar Linden: well that's about it then
  • [15:58] JB Hancroft: yeah, that's cool
  • [15:58] Oskar Linden: it's almost 4
  • [15:58] JB Hancroft: it should go on the necro-computing list
  • [15:59] Marigold Devin: Great, thanks, learned a little bit more.
  • [15:59] Latif Khalifa: Oskar, while in SF use nerf gun on Philip for me ;)
  • [15:59] Latif Khalifa: for letting go Babbage and friends
  • [15:59] Oskar Linden: I shot falcon the other day
  • [15:59] Oskar Linden: he is in a line of sight from me
  • [15:59] Gooden Uggla: bet that felt good :)
  • [16:00] Oskar Linden: it did :-D
  • [16:00] Oskar Linden: the nerf dart veered left and I cursed the physics engine
  • [16:00] Gooden Uggla: thanks for the good news, we can all use it
  • [16:00] JB Hancroft: he has Jedi physics foo
  • [16:00] Gooden Uggla: damned artificial wind
  • [16:00] Marigold DevinMarigold: Devin wonders how many Lindens are actually left now.
  • [16:00] JB Hancroft: they're virtual
  • [16:01] Latif Khalifa: heh, falcon and his "resize object and get number of prims available on your parcel reduced" will ruin otherwise great mesh project
  • [16:01] Oskar Linden: it's gotta be paid for somewhere
  • [16:01] Oskar Linden: their impact is not free on the sim side
  • [16:01] Oskar Linden: we'll find a good balance
  • [16:01] Marigold Devin: Another class system in the offing then - mesh to the left, non-mesh plebs to the right (ie me)
  • [16:02] Latif Khalifa: many things impact stuff, you don't pay more tier if you invite 3 instead of 1 friend over
  • [16:02] Latif Khalifa: there are such things like the principle of least astonishment
  • [16:02] Oskar Linden: let's just see how it goes first ok?
  • [16:02] Latif Khalifa: Oskar, that's what viewer2 team said
  • [16:02] Gooden Uggla: LL charging more for things no longer astonishes me...
  • [16:03] Latif Khalifa: it's better to nip the bad stuff in the bud
  • [16:03] Oskar Linden:  :-)
  • [16:03] Marigold Devin: It looks impressive does mesh, and there is a lot of excitement about it generally as the jungle drums are beating.
  • [16:03] Oskar Linden: alright guys, I need to go
  • [16:03] Oskar Linden: thanks for coming
  • [16:03] Rex Cronon: tc oskar
  • [16:03] Jonathan Yap: Thank you Oskar
  • [16:03] Marigold Devin: "and thanks for going" as my brother would say ;-))
  • [16:03] Latif Khalifa: Gooden, would it astonish you that you have 10 free prims, then you resize your tree in front of the house,. and you have none left?
  • [16:03] Rex Cronon: tc everybody. and have a fine day:)
  • [16:04] Gooden Uggla: mesh is like sculpts, and the grid is full of poorly done sculpts...
  • [16:04] Latif Khalifa: take care Oskar
  • [16:04] Maestro Linden: i'm out too - thanks for coming!
  • [16:04] Latif Khalifa: take care Maestro
  • [16:04] Aeron Constantine: bye everyone
  • [16:04] Lares Carter: thanks for your time Lindens
  • [16:04] Marigold Devin: Bye Oscar, Maestro, Kelly, all
  • [16:04] Aeron Constantine: Thanks Lindens
