You can play your own MP3 files in Second Life by changing a land parcel's music URL, which is found in the About Land window on the '''Media''' tab.

This means that to hear your music, you or another Resident must be present on your parcel and have music streaming turned on (done from [[Preferences Window Guide|Preferences]] > Audio & Video tab). .M3U playlist files won't work, but valid .PLS streams will. Doing this also presumes that you know an ''external'' server that the MP3 files are on, because Second Life doesn't support direct uploading of MP3s. Reasons for this include bandwidth limitations and legal complications. For example, consider how your experience would degrade if you were in a crowd and everyone decided to play their favorite song at the same time.
 
However, you can upload short sound clips, up to 10 seconds long, in [[How do I upload images or sounds|supported .WAV format]]. These aren't parcel-dependent, and can be played for others to hear. Some Residents have scripted ways to string series of clips into playable "records", but their sound is prone to skipping in poor performance situations.
