These templates are used or related to the use of the implementation of the hCalendar microformat, which allows calendar event data to be embedded directly in the Wiki.
The hCalendar templates allow articles on the Second Life Wiki to be the primary data source when generating calendar feeds, as an alternative to maintaining a separate calendar elsewhere.
The templates were originally created to combat the problem of the separately-maintained Office Hours calendar falling out of sync with the actual Office Hours, and although that currently remains the most common use of the templates, there are other articles which use them.
