[13:07] Zai Lynch: yay! ^^
[13:07] BlckCobra Shikami: yuppers
[13:07] Monochrome Tomorrow: si
[13:07] Lexie Linden: : ))
[13:07] Lexie Linden: First little topic:
[13:08] Youri Ashton: all okay here, and how are you Lexie?
[13:08] Lexie Linden: Im good thanks!
[13:08] Youri Ashton: :)
[13:08] Bebe Waffle: I win 1137 in casino today :P I am going fine today, thanks :P:P Hope all ou too :P Thanks for asking
[13:08] Bebe Waffle: all you*
[13:08] Lexie Linden: There was a post today about Second Life Answers. Last week I mentioned you may want to translate it. It's totally up to you. https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/community/blog/2009/08/18/second-life-answers-beta--thank-you
[13:09] Lexie Linden: It is pretty short but it might be useful if we had it translated because SL Answers is not just for English speakers ㋡
[13:09] BlckCobra Shikami: ok, I can do to tomorrow
[13:09] BlckCobra Shikami: german
[13:10] Lexie Linden: If you decide you want to translate it..let me know and I can open a ct for it so everyone knows who is doing what and can help edit etc : ))
[13:10] Lexie Linden: Thanks Blck!
[13:10] Lexie Linden: Any questions on that?
[13:10] Samia Bechir: I can do it in French
[13:10] Lexie Linden: great!
[13:10] Lisa Lowe: where will we put the translations?
[13:10] Youri Ashton: Lisa and me are the ones for Dutch I guess :)
[13:10] Lexie Linden: I think we can put them in wiki and link them to blog
[13:10] Bebe Waffle: If we decide now translate this, how we post? where?
[13:11] Lexie Linden: Zai - didnt you open a blog translation category?
[13:11] Lexie Linden: someone did
[13:11] Lisa Lowe: best create the english one first in the wiki then
[13:11] Lexie Linden: Sounds good
[13:11] Lexie Linden: I can do that
[13:11] Zai Lynch: Yeah I made one for german and it got an english parent directory. It can be expanded to whatever language we need *nods*
[13:12] Lexie Linden: That would be good
[13:12] Zai Lynch: and I think Ramzi made an awesome design for blog translations in the wiki
[13:12] Lexie Linden: oh yes he did!
[13:12] Ramzi Linden: :)
[13:12] Zai Lynch: yay :-)
[13:13] Zai Lynch: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Category:Blog_Translations
[13:13] Lexie Linden: I can find that and send it to those of you who are going to do this. I will add the link to the cts as well with some instructions
[13:13] Lexie Linden: thanks Zai
[13:13] Zai Lynch: welcome =)
[13:13] Lexie Linden: Next topic is.....
[13:13] Lisa Lowe: If the english one is up, just point us to it please
[13:14] Lisa Lowe: (I can never find anything anymore lately)
[13:14] Lexie Linden: ok I will get it in wiki and link to it in the ct
[13:15] Lexie Linden: Late this month..early September we may do a message of the day about community translators.
[13:15] Lexie Linden: This means we can expect to have new people coming in.
[13:15] Lexie Linden: This also means..you can help them : )))
[13:15] Lisa Lowe: cool
[13:16] Lexie Linden: I think all of you would be able to guide a new translator through some of the processes nicely
[13:16] Lexie Linden: It would kind of be "taking them under your wing"
[13:16] BlckCobra Shikami looks in her inventory for her wings: missing from database :P
[13:16] Lexie Linden: So I think when we add new translators I can announce their arrival in the CT group. (with their language)
[13:17] Lisa Lowe: I lost my wings a couple of years ago already ;)
[13:17] Zai Lynch: ^^
[13:17] Youri Ashton: wings got plucked? ;)
[13:17] Lexie Linden: If you want to reach out to new translators and get them to the office hours or this meeting or even walk them through the project pages...that would be awesome
[13:18] Lexie Linden: Anyone have any other ideas on how to help new translators feel more included and part of the process?
[13:18] Lisa Lowe: can you let us know when they join the CT group. We can't see that.
[13:18] Lexie Linden: Yes..I can do do that
[13:18] Lexie Linden: with their language
[13:18] Lexie Linden: I will let the new translators know via sign up that this will happen so they are not surprised : )
[13:19] Lisa Lowe: ok
[13:19] Youri Ashton: giving a special Linden Bear for the new people may work, as a welcome prezzie. but some minor work that needs to be done can help out as well
[13:19] Youri Ashton: letting them know they are needed
[13:19] Bebe Waffle: I prefer build tools for people can come without need be in my wings. I prefer try buildthing for people can come with freedom.
[13:19] Youri Ashton: anyone else a suggestion?
[13:19] Zai Lynch: so I'd need to leave and join again in order to get it? ugh
[13:19] Lexie Linden: good idea
[13:19] BlckCobra Shikami: yup, minor work is good: like beer an pretzels
[13:19] Zai Lynch: ^^
[13:19] Bebe Waffle: I think this is very important detail.
[13:19] Lexie Linden: hehe Bebe ..beer and pretzels ㋡
[13:20] BlckCobra Shikami: I thin k important for integration is to have a little piece of work you can do in the beginning
[13:20] Lexie Linden: ok, if you think up more ideas feel free to drop me a notecard or put it on the CT forum
[13:20] Bebe Waffle: I think is better someone can come and work and depend not from me. I remember in firsts weeks i was feel me in wing.. i almost cry..
[13:20] Youri Ashton: hey yann
[13:21] Lexie Linden: hmm ok so maybe some small thing they can do right away is an idea
[13:21] Yann Dufaux: heya all sorry this interupt ㋡
[13:21] Lisa Lowe: hi Yann
[13:21] Lexie Linden: Hi Yann ㋡
[13:21] Yann Dufaux: Hi lexie ㋡
[13:21] Monochrome Tomorrow: hi yann dont worry ㋡
[13:21] Bebe Waffle: i ask ask ask help.. and people just said ok.. i will teach you and nothing... I really like help people to grow without me.
[13:21] Bebe Waffle: Lexie pretzels?:P whayt means?:P
[13:22] Yann Dufaux: sorry for this deconnection , i need to instal the new last version of snowglobe ㋡
[13:22] Youri Ashton: latest version of snowglobe may cause a lot of crashes yann
[13:22] Youri Ashton: better wait
[13:22] Lexie Linden: Bebe..it may be easier to learn when there is more translation happening. It is a little slower right now but will pick up. Woring on blog translation with someone may help you too
[13:23] Lisa Lowe: what is the status on the viewer revamp?
[13:23] Lexie Linden: Ramzi - do we have status on that?
[13:23] Lexie Linden: (Bebe - sorry I meant that pretzel comment to Blck)
[13:24] BlckCobra Shikami giggles
[13:24] Yann Dufaux: Youri i love crash again and again loll, i'm little crazy ㋡
[13:24] Ramzi Linden: Yes- the viewer revamp is still in progress. The engineers are still working to make a usable prototype, but it is very buggy right now.
[13:24] Bebe Waffle: Oh no problem :))
[13:24] Youri Ashton: lol yann
[13:24] Ramzi Linden: So the viewer isnt ready to show publicly--
[13:24] Yann Dufaux: Youri@ but the last version of this morning work great ㋡ for xp the bug is fixed :)
[13:25] Lisa Lowe: Will there be changes in the way we deal with the translations for that?
[13:25] Ramzi Linden: but one exciting thing about the viewer revamp is that it will attempt to simplify some of the long awkward sentences that are so hard to translate.
[13:25] Youri Ashton: for vista it aint fixed :)
[13:25] Youri Ashton: crashed so far about 30 times
[13:25] Lisa Lowe: ah, thats a good thing indeed :)
[13:25] Yann Dufaux: coucou Samie, tu vas bien? xxxxx ㋡
[13:25] Lexie Linden: : ))
[13:25] Youri Ashton: anyways, its translation meeting, not snowglobe :p
[13:26] Samia Bechir: back from crash :/
[13:26] Youri Ashton: lets have lexie back in charge :)
[13:26] Lexie Linden: Next up: RHN - Residnet Help Network..and you!
[13:26] Lisa Lowe: LL is notorious for impossible sentences indeed :)
[13:26] Lexie Linden: Resident*
[13:26] Yann Dufaux: Youri@ its true, but the test on translation in snowglobe are great too ㋡
[13:26] Lexie Linden: I mentioned this a bit before
[13:26] Youri Ashton: same for me yann
[13:26] Lexie Linden: The Resident Help Network will assist groups connect with each other and with the community
[13:27] Lexie Linden: Language groups will benefit from this I think
[13:27] Lexie Linden: I'd like you to think about the groups you are in and send me some suggestions of groups that might be good to take part in this "beta"
[13:27] Lexie Linden: The groups need to have a help focus
[13:28] Lexie Linden: They need to offer something for free..like classes, translation, freebies etc
[13:28] Lexie Linden: Maybe since you know this program is coming..you might even want to think of forming groups now so you can take part?
[13:29] Lexie Linden: The goal of this is also going to be to give these groups a higher exposure via website, wiki and more.
[13:29] BlckCobra Shikami: question is wether to form new groups or to rely on the already working groups
[13:29] Lexie Linden: Maybe even smaller groups will want to merge together
[13:30] BlckCobra Shikami: like SSG (Scripters Support Group): Newbie scripter and advanced scripter's help
[13:30] Samia Bechir: Lexie, sorry but I crashed at the wrong time (as if there were any good time for crash^^) , what program are you talking about ?
[13:30] Lexie Linden: Resident Help Network - wb!
[13:30] Lisa Lowe: I am part of one called SL Building Mentors
[13:30] BlckCobra Shikami: but not sure if those groups want higher exposure: they already have 2000 members and suffering from the not working group chats ... something we shoudl keep in mind
[13:30] Lexie Linden: I think there are many smaller language groups out there but they are a bit buried in search.
[13:31] Lexie Linden: Thats a point Blck
[13:31] Lisa Lowe: also Mentor Educators of SL.....though not sure how active that still is
[13:31] Lexie Linden: But many groups use land space / forums etc to help people too
[13:31] Lexie Linden: oh good one Lisa
[13:32] Lexie Linden: I know this is a new type topic and you dont have all the details yet. I just want to get you thinking and I will pass on more info as it comes together
[13:32] BlckCobra Shikami: What I see from my experience is that we need groups which can help people on different topics in different languages - or even individuals: like a czech speaking scripter or a italian builder who are willing to help
[13:32] Lexie Linden: Second Life Answers and RHN go together..and you are all part of those groups that help the international communities. You can have an even bigger impact : ))
[13:33] Lexie Linden: Good thoughts Blck
[13:33] BlckCobra Shikami: will RHN be a kind of roof for all those activities or a paralell thingy?
[13:33] Lexie Linden: There are more and more options for you on how you help. Harder to decide I know..but choice is good!
[13:34] Lexie Linden: It will stand on its own but be related
[13:34] Lexie Linden: Volunteering is the "roof"..we just have more ways to do it now : ))
[13:34] Lexie Linden: And international is getting more ways to reach the general community
[13:34] Lexie Linden: Im excited about that
[13:35] Lexie Linden:
[13:35] BlckCobra Shikami: I am asking because it brings me back to what we had last time on my mind: 20 different corners with 21 different logins and user interfaces
[13:35] Lexie Linden: I know what you mean
[13:35] Yann Dufaux: yeah, i love that ㋡
[13:35] Lexie Linden: I hope that we can tie in RHN groups somewhere on the Answers front page as well.
[13:36] BlckCobra Shikami: We are already at the point where people have the choice to check for answers in several locations ... and what I get to hear when I point people somewhere: too complicated, too much to read... Can't you tell me instead?
[13:36] Yann Dufaux: each direction of volounter participent is important no? ㋡
[13:36] Lexie Linden: I know we need to pull it all together so Residents can make choices
[13:37] Lexie Linden: I think with the KB to Wiki project referring to Answers as well..we are beginning to see these resources tied together a bit more
[13:37] Bebe Waffle: Who wish dont work in group will can work alone or will need work in group?
[13:37] BlckCobra Shikami: choices and alternatives are good - but under one "roof" or it will be like 5 people in 10 places and no one sees the answer7QUESTION OF THE OTHERS
[13:37] Lexie Linden: So, as we go I will keep it in mind that we don't want to get anymore spread out than we are now
[13:37] BlckCobra Shikami: sorry keyboard fault, blame it on LL :-)
[13:38] Lisa Lowe: don't blame me ;)
[13:38] Yann Dufaux: loll i blame the coffee for my part ㋡
[13:38] Lexie Linden: Bebe- it is ture..you can help on your own. You do not need a group
[13:38] Lexie Linden: true*
[13:38] BlckCobra Shikami: no,Lexie's fault - she always makes me excited
[13:38] Lexie Linden: Many do it that way and it is important and has impact
[13:38] Lexie Linden: lol
[13:38] Zai Lynch: ^^
[13:39] Lexie Linden: I may open a thread about this topic on the CT forum. If I do I will post it for you all
[13:39] Lexie Linden: ok CT Logo...
[13:39] Lisa Lowe: I still believe we need a Q&A section in Search (within SL), pointing to everything.
[13:40] Lexie Linden: Monochrome has been working on some ideas so the group has a logo. Monochrome..can you put those up here?
[13:40] Monochrome Tomorrow: ah yea hold on
[13:40] Lexie Linden: If we can decide on one..and get approval for it..that would be nice right?
[13:40] BlckCobra Shikami: wow, a cube *claps her hands*
[13:40] Monochrome Tomorrow: :P
[13:40] Lexie Linden: We have a blank square in the group box now lol
[13:41] BlckCobra Shikami: :P yourself
[13:41] Lexie Linden: We will have to be careful not to use/alter the logo
[13:41] Lisa Lowe: is this the only logo to choose from?
[13:41] Lexie Linden: I think there are more
[13:41] Monochrome Tomorrow: no no ehm i didnt expect it for today
[13:41] Yann Dufaux: great alpha logo ㋡
[13:41] Lexie Linden: ohh ok
[13:41] Monochrome Tomorrow: i am still working on it
[13:42] Lexie Linden: I thought you had 2 :p
[13:42] Youri Ashton: perhaps having a sim thats open to everyone? where people can go to if they see a error, fill in a notecard or something for that and put it in a box? let the people join in on the action?
[13:42] Youri Ashton: good place for us translators as well to hang out and speak to the people, more people have more answers and ideas
[13:43] Lisa Lowe: I think it should be greenish.....like SL
[13:43] Lisa Lowe: something with the hand in it
[13:43] Youri Ashton: logo seems to be okay
[13:44] Lexie Linden: If any others here want to submit ideas for a logo..we can put them up here and look at them at the next meeting?
[13:44] Monochrome Tomorrow: well, send me a note with your ideas, i will work something out and the next time we can decide us
[13:44] BlckCobra Shikami: maybe with a foot? trasnlation for "hand" :-)
[13:44] Lexie Linden: lol
[13:44] Lexie Linden: a foot
[13:44] Lexie Linden: : )
[13:44] Monochrome Tomorrow: sure why not
[13:44] Monochrome Tomorrow: it means we walking ...... together
[13:44] Monochrome Tomorrow: lol
[13:44] BlckCobra Shikami: Don't take me serious - unless I script :-)
[13:44] Lexie Linden: thats true!!
[13:44] Lexie Linden: : ))
[13:45] BlckCobra Shikami: <<<<< HAHAHAHAHA >>>>>
[13:45] Samia Bechir: sure Lexie, I'll make a few tries
[13:45] Lexie Linden: So either contact Monochrome and work together on ideas or bring your own next week : )
[13:45] Lexie Linden: perfecttt
[13:45] Youri Ashton: make sure you give everyone a copy of the final texture to everyone in the group ;)
[13:45] Lexie Linden: Thats all I had for now. Any of you have topics you wanted to mention?
[13:46] Monochrome Tomorrow: i think about a common group title, there are somany different groups titles, i guess its might be confusing. a kind of a common name- and a specific part (the language). in example: RHN Group - German, RHN Group - Dutch.... and so on
[13:46] Youri Ashton: i talked to you earlier lexie
[13:46] Youri Ashton: about my new website?
[13:46] Lexie Linden: oh..and thank you to all of you who have done the last minute translations over the past few days! It is very appreciated ㋡
[13:46] Bebe Waffle: I have one question
[13:47] Youri Ashton: we would talk about what to place for this team
[13:47] Lexie Linden: I like that Mono - I just wonder if that makes it complicated?
[13:47] Lexie Linden: Youri- sure tell them about that
[13:47] Lexie Linden: your up next Bebe
[13:47] Samia Bechir: monochrome, I'm not sure about that... some groups have existed for very long, have hundreds or thousands members... I'm not sure they will be willing to recreate a new group
[13:47] Bebe Waffle: I am afraid maybe my poor english find not the better words... please apologize my poor english
[13:48] Bebe Waffle: I turn afraid when I see in last week someone give for you one translate from just three phrases with more 5 error, maybe 8. I dont know how talk about this and why this happens. This make me think very very much.Sometimes I am afraid we have x logins in translators but y quantity from people. This turn very afraid who is new. How and why one new need start to critic one older translator?
[13:48] Youri Ashton: as you also said, could be handy to have more knowlage about this project
[13:48] Bebe Waffle: I try understand about the interact when we see serious errors.
[13:49] Lexie Linden: Bebe - even if a new translator makes comments for edits..its good. The new translator learns and they could be right as well. I would say keep commenting : ))
[13:49] Lexie Linden: Very true Youri
[13:49] Lisa Lowe: With new ones we will have the same discussions again about how to translate.
[13:50] Bebe Waffle: Lexie when the new see rude and very wrongs translates, what the new should make?
[13:50] Lexie Linden: rude?
[13:50] Bebe Waffle: sorry, maybe my english word is not better.
[13:50] Lisa Lowe: upset?
[13:51] Lexie Linden: I think they should ask in a comment if that is how it is meant. Many times the discussion between translators can find the best words to use.
[13:51] Bebe Waffle: not.... rude means not subtle.. is something really really wrong..
[13:51] Youri Ashton: oh, i seen a few pictures from the new SL viewer that was shown at SLCC, do we need to translate for that as well? if so, i think it may be wise to start on that asap
[13:52] Lexie Linden: Do you think the new translators should not comment? If so, if they are unsure..they can ask in CT group
[13:52] Bebe Waffle: if i see one phrase i know if i write with so much errors when i was with 10 years old, certain my daddy punish me.. when i see one phrase with so seriousquantity errors?
[13:52] Lexie Linden: or IM another translator and discuss
[13:52] Lexie Linden: If you see many errors, please do edit and add what you think is correct
[13:53] Youri Ashton: well.. i rather say, that if there needs to be translations done for the 2010 viewer, it would be good to start now instead of last minute
[13:53] Ramzi Linden: Youri- correct, we will eventually need to translate the new SL viewer, but right now it is still too early. The text is not finalized yet. We would not want to translate something in the new viewer and then have to re-do it.
[13:53] Lexie Linden: If others disagree or agree..it will get sorted out. Translators do good teamwork this way
[13:53] Ramzi Linden: Youri- but I will make sure that we do not start at the "last minute" :)
[13:53] Lexie Linden: : ))
[13:54] Bebe Waffle: No, I just am afraid Lexie. I see some translates is really good and i wish not critic nobody but have others.. when i read i just dont believe what i read. ANd i am afraid to say how wrong is the translate because can appear i am new and wishing disrespect who is old
[13:54] Yann Dufaux: yik, re-do it*
[13:54] Youri Ashton: lol, please do make sure indeed ramzi! we cant get all translations done on time other wise, so it would mean LL making new releases short after the release of the 2010 viewer. doesnt look that good i guess
[13:55] Lexie Linden: I see. I think it would be ok to ask about it. Everybody learns this way. Translators are great people and would be happy to help you understand.
[13:55] Youri Ashton: and for the translators, it wouldnt look good either
[13:55] Lexie Linden: Asking questions is good : ) I do it all the time lol
[13:55] Youri Ashton: not many people will understand
[13:56] Zai Lynch: As hard as it may sound, our goal shouldn't be to please the translator, but to provide good translations...
[13:56] Lisa Lowe: If we are not able to correct eachother anymore......we better quit translating....
[13:56] Lexie Linden: Agreed. Everyone in this group acts with respect to each other and thats why the translations come out so good too
[13:56] Lexie Linden: right
[13:57] Lexie Linden: editing and discussion is key
[13:57] Zai Lynch nods
[13:57] Lexie Linden: Dont be afraid to do it
[13:57] Lexie Linden: : ))
[13:57] Bebe Waffle: Ok, thank you.
[13:57] Lexie Linden: But if you are...or are worried..IM me : ))
[13:57] Lexie Linden: Or Noelle, or Rika, or Simone
[13:57] Lexie Linden: : )
[13:58] Youri Ashton: agreed on that point zai, but do know that translators will get attacked in some form if they dont deliver good work. or what the residents see at least. the plain resident doesnt know how much time there is to translate
[13:58] Youri Ashton: and yes, I already had several times people coming to me complaining and swearing at me for translations
[13:58] Lexie Linden: : ( Im sorry that happened Youri
[13:58] Zai Lynch: I think we'll all eventually need to face some sort of criticism. the question is, how we handle it
[13:58] Lexie Linden: exactly
[13:59] Youri Ashton: its okay lexie :p
[13:59] Youri Ashton: only shows the braincapacity of the people doing that :)
[13:59] Lexie Linden: You cannot please everyone. What you do..you do out of the goodness of your hearts. Manyyyyy people know this.
[13:59] Lisa Lowe: We should always strive for the best translations. Not to be the first to have done it with erros.
[13:59] Samia Bechir: Youri, you can rely on other SL bugs, residents will scream about them much more than about translation, so .. we're quite safe *runs for cover*
[13:59] Lexie Linden: Also true Lisa
[13:59] Zai Lynch: yuss
[13:59] Lexie Linden: lol Samia
[13:59] Bebe Waffle: Then I should say someone give for you one translate with very much errors in just three phrases , and is in Jira. And is just a creation from one new text. Is not translate there. I really scary when I see that phrases. I wish not atack nobody, but if i say all i think about, will apear a atack. And I wish not.
[13:59] Bebe Waffle: And I think why someone made this.
[14:00] Bebe Waffle: I think and think.
[14:00] Lisa Lowe: Don't be afraid to comment, Bebe
[14:00] Lexie Linden: right
[14:00] Monochrome Tomorrow: and at least...we are all humans (avatars) and make errors..... :D isnt that pretty normal
[14:00] Lisa Lowe: It also reflects on you in the end, so you can also say what you want about it :)
[14:00] Lexie Linden: yes it is normal!
[14:00] Youri Ashton: samia, stand around waterhead long enough with your CT translator tag on ;)
