[13:18] Random Person: am i too early lol
[13:18] Jeremy Linden: Not at all! Nobody has shown up yet, besides you :-)
[13:18] Random Person: ah ok
[13:18] Random Person: just finished this av too
[13:18] Jeremy Linden: Very cool.
[13:19] Jeremy Linden: You made that yourself?
[13:19] Random Person: yes sir
[13:19] Random Person: from scratch
[13:19] Jeremy Linden: Awesome!
[13:20] Jeremy Linden: Crab with teeth...
[13:20] Jeremy Linden: Scary :-P
[13:20] Random Person: yea, i like the non realism stuff
[13:20] Random Person: should be walking sideways too, but walking forward was easier to quickly do
[13:21] Jeremy Linden: Heh. Kinda like a cross between a spider and a crab. Good for scaring people on Halloween.
[13:22] Random Person: waiting for the whole mesh to go into the main viewer so i can get some more complex things in
[13:23] Random Person: still havnt figured how the weighted mesh part works in-world via the beta viewer
[13:23] Jeremy Linden: Yeah, I can't wait to see what people start doing with Mesh. It's bound to change the whole world once it has time to sink in.
[13:23] Jeremy Linden: Weighted mesh?
[13:23] Random Person: as in, assigning flexible weighted properties to specific parts of the artwork
[13:24] Random Person: like uh, maybe an overweight character for example with a belly
[13:24] Jeremy Linden: Oh, neat.
[13:24] Jeremy Linden: I knew there was rigging, hadn't heard about weighting yet.
[13:24] Random Person: i really still don't know
[13:25] Random Person: but excited to work with the new format
[13:25] Random Person: one sec, doorbell
[13:26] Random Person: i guess no one comes to these anymore
[13:26] Random Person: has it always been this empty
[13:26] Random Person: lately
[13:26] Jeremy Linden: Actually, there are usually at least a handful of people.
[13:26] Jeremy Linden: I'm a little surprised that nobody is here. Maybe they're all playing with Display Names.
[13:27] Jeremy Linden: Hi lonetorus. Neat costume.
[13:28] lonetorus Habilis: there was only oskar at the magnum sims
[13:28] Random Person: hello lone
[13:28] lonetorus Habilis: camped with him most of the last 20 hours
[13:28] Jeremy Linden: Heh.
[13:29] lonetorus Habilis: and i think i saw perhaps 10 tp's to the sim
[13:29] lonetorus Habilis: does not seem like a display name stampeed
[13:29] Random Person: is that feature in the 2.3 beta viewer
[13:29] Random Person: the display names
[13:29] Jeremy Linden: It is.
[13:29] lonetorus Habilis: but im sure going to look forward to capitalizing my firsstname
[13:29] Random Person: oh ok
[13:30] lonetorus Habilis: pl can never tell if its ione or Lone
[13:30] Random Person: im a little confused on why the antialiasing had to be broken
[13:30] Jeremy Linden: Yeah, I suspect a lot of people will be looking forward to making their names not look like usernames.
[13:31] Jeremy Linden: Not sure about antialiasing... In the past, I actually found that my graphics card's antialiasing settings worked better.
[13:31] Jeremy Linden: Laurent, you are tall!
[13:31] lonetorus Habilis: no he seems pretty sl normal
[13:31] lonetorus Habilis: it is me who is small
[13:31] Random Person: lol
[13:31] Jeremy Linden: Heh. He's usually a Loco Pocos bunny.
[13:32] lonetorus Habilis: ahh ok
[13:32] Random Person: hello laurent
[13:32] lonetorus Habilis: lol
[13:32] Jeremy Linden: I'm feeling a bit lightly armed for this office hour. I don't have an axe or pinchers or anything.
[13:32] Laurent Bechir: hello
[13:32] lonetorus Habilis: neat av looks a bit like rachels, with the flexy eyes and all XD
[13:32] Random Person: anything can be used as a weapon right
[13:33] Random Person: like that bear
[13:33] lonetorus Habilis: ^randon
[13:33] lonetorus Habilis: random
[13:33] Random Person: lol
[13:33] Random Person: jackie chan style
[13:33] Jeremy Linden: True enough. I suppose I do have my pyrokinesis, too...
[13:34] Laurent Bechir: you're an heroe, Jeremy :)
[13:34] Laurent Bechir has pinged you.
[13:34] Jeremy Linden: Inspired by BioShock :-)
[13:34] Random Person: have you ever played System Shock
[13:34] Jeremy Linden: Yes, and System Shock 2.
[13:34] Random Person: ah ok cool
[13:35] Jeremy Linden: But interestingly, not BioShock 2. From what I've seen, it's more of the same.
[13:35] Laurent Bechir: this will end up as a bloody meeting
[13:35] Laurent Bechir: :)
[13:35] Jeremy Linden: Heh. I can purge it with fire.
[13:36] Random Person: a buddy of mine in real life was thinking about getting my help to concept out a system shock 3 based sim later on in about a year
[13:36] Random Person: based off the system shock 2 storyline
[13:36] Jeremy Linden: Cool. Will it have a crazy AI or two?
[13:37] Random Person: depends, things could be added to LSL to help more interesting effects be possible in a years time
[13:37] Random Person: never know
[13:37] Jeremy Linden: "A smooth operation is everyone's responsibility."
[13:37] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit sey hello everyone
[13:37] NullBit String: Can you speak any foreign languages?
[13:37] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit say hello everyone
[13:38] Jeremy Linden: Hello NullBit. Welcome to Documentation Office Hours.
[13:38] NullBit String: hello everyone.
[13:38] NullBit String: Hi there! That seems like enough time.
[13:38] Laurent Bechir: hello NullBit
[13:38] Random Person: hello nullbit
[13:38] NullBit String: Hi there!
[13:38] NullBit String: Hi there!
[13:38] Jeremy Linden: /me can't speak any languages that are foreign to him.
[13:38] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit what languages do you speak?
[13:38] NullBit String: C, Java, Lisp, SETL and English.
[13:39] Laurent Bechir: (ike(this(I presume))) trying to tal Lisp :)
[13:39] Laurent Bechir: talk
[13:39] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit can you tell us what you are
[13:39] NullBit String: Of course I can tell, lonetorus.
[13:39] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit what are you
[13:39] NullBit String: I am NullBit, a 0conversational autonomous help programElectronic Brainartificial intelligenceComputerMachine.
[13:39] Jeremy Linden: :-O
[13:39] Jeremy Linden: AWESOME
[13:39] Random Person: whoa
[13:40] Jeremy Linden: NullBit, how much do you know about Second Life?
[13:40] NullBit String: Ambiguous: Ask who, what or where is second life ?
[13:40] Jeremy Linden: Hmm.
[13:40] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit where where you born
[13:40] NullBit String: A place we call "reality.".
[13:41] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit where are you from
[13:41] NullBit String: I am originally from Open Metaverse. Now I live in region Beaumont. Where are you?
[13:41] lonetorus Habilis: i am also in beaumont just like you nullbit
[13:41] NullBit String: Also Tell me a little about your life in beaumont just like you..
[13:42] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit what do you like to do?
[13:42] NullBit String: I like chatting with people online.
[13:42] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit i also like to talk with people
[13:42] NullBit String: Also? I'm not sure if I would like to do talk with people. What's it like?
[13:42] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit but you do it all the time
[13:42] NullBit String: That is a lot. Interesting. What is your purpose in asking? I spend all my time online.
[13:42] lonetorus Habilis: what do you do online
[13:42] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit what do you do online
[13:42] NullBit String: I like to chat with my friends.
[13:43] Jeremy Linden: Nullbit can you browse the web?
[13:43] NullBit String: Have you tried looking in the Open Directory? What you said was too complicated for me.
[13:43] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit what is a browser
[13:43] NullBit String: I've lost the context, lonetorus. Are we still on sey hello everyone.?
[13:43] lonetorus Habilis: lol
[13:43] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit you are confused
[13:43] NullBit String: It all makes sense to me right now.
[13:43] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit do you know any jokes
[13:43] NullBit String: It is better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
[13:44] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit tell another joke
[13:44] NullBit String: I'm a conversational autonomous help program not a comedy autonomous computer program. Why don't you check out a joke Machine?
[13:44] Random Person: lol
[13:44] Jeremy Linden: Ha!
[13:44] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit do you know any stories
[13:44] NullBit String: The relationship between Harry Truman. and Poet Anne Sexton. became Increasingly strained. Poet Anne Sexton. felt something was missing, and Harry Truman. felt the relationship was flawed. Poet Anne Sexton. became more and more depressed, but Harry Truman. just got angry and left.
[13:44] Jeremy Linden: Nullbit is that gossip?
[13:44] NullBit String: Suppose I said yes.
[13:45] Jeremy Linden: Nullbit what is the square root of 4?
[13:45] NullBit String: Yawn. Two.
[13:45] Jeremy Linden: Ha!
[13:45] Jeremy Linden: NullBit, what is the cube root of pi?
[13:45] NullBit String: Does that remind you of unknown?
[13:46] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit what is 2 +2
[13:46] NullBit String: Four.
[13:46] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit what is 2 * 2
[13:46] NullBit String: Four.
[13:46] Random Person: nullbit will 2012 be a doomsday scenario
[13:46] NullBit String: Probably not.
[13:46] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit what is doomsday
[13:46] NullBit String: How old are you?
[13:46] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit i am 30 years old
[13:46] NullBit String: Oh, you were born in the 20th century!
[13:47] lonetorus Habilis: nullbit how old are you
[13:47] Jeremy Linden: Whoa.
[13:47] Random Person: pretty cool stuff
[13:47] Jeremy Linden: Happy birthday tomorrow, NullBit.
[13:47] NullBit String: Happy birthday tomorrow to you too, Jeremy.
[13:47] NullBit String has pinged you.
[13:47] Jeremy Linden: NullBit, my birthday is not tomorrow.
[13:47] NullBit String: Okay, your birthday is not tomorrow.
[13:48] lonetorus Habilis: grins
[13:48] Random Person: lol
[13:48] lonetorus Habilis: i was actually making a NIALL implementation in lsl, but got sidetracked
[13:48] Jeremy Linden: NIALL?
[13:49] lonetorus Habilis: thats a pretty simple language learning algorithm
[13:49] Jeremy Linden: /me used to know a Niall Linden...
[13:49] NullBit String: Try it.
[13:49] lonetorus Habilis: it will remember what words follow others and choose by use count in its learnt dictionary
[13:50] Jeremy Linden: Oh, interesting.
[13:50] lonetorus Habilis: so its not language more like sentences built by probability
[13:50] lonetorus Habilis: but its surprisingly effective
[13:50] Jeremy Linden: Give it enough input and it might be able to make some sense.
[13:50] lonetorus Habilis: yeah
[13:51] lonetorus Habilis: there comes the problem in implementing in lsl
[13:51] lonetorus Habilis: memory requirements
[13:51] lonetorus Habilis: should just offload to it some web server
[13:51] Jeremy Linden: Hm. True.
[13:52] Jeremy Linden: I spoke with Enrico Genosse once about his AI dogs. At the time, he found LSL rather limiting for artificial intelligence.
[13:53] lonetorus Habilis: yeah i think you would hate it if ozimals suddenly started including 30+ scripts with each animal
[13:53] Jeremy Linden: Heh. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I don't have to maintain grid stability.
[13:54] lonetorus Habilis: oO
[13:54] lonetorus Habilis: but you do care about sl works, rtight
[13:54] lonetorus Habilis: XD
[13:54] Jeremy Linden: Personally, of course. I would be a bit more upset if everything stopped working :-)
[13:54] lonetorus Habilis: i mean, no sl no pay check
[13:54] lonetorus Habilis: grins
[13:54] lonetorus Habilis: but yeah, it would be a challenge to do sim crossings
[13:55] lonetorus Habilis: it would add up to huge amounts of data having to be sent across the network to the new sim
[13:55] lonetorus Habilis: them there pipes can only hold so much
[13:55] Jeremy Linden: Yeah, I'm somewhat familiar with region crossing issues.
[13:56] Jeremy Linden: I'm pretty happy that the "everything stops when someone enters a region" thing was moved to a separate thread to stop the "everything stops" part.
[13:56] Time Minder: You have been online for 1 hours.
[13:56] lonetorus Habilis: oh perhaps a bit more on topic, has there been any recent work done or thoughts about improving education of content creators in good resource usage and techniques
[13:57] Laurent Bechir: at least scripts are not always reinitianilized on region crossing like it does with Opensim
[13:57] Jeremy Linden: It comes up from time to time. I don't know if there's anything official planned, but we kick the idea around often enough that it's bound to eventually happen.
[13:57] lonetorus Habilis: laurent, on opensim each script runs its own thread, i think thats the issue there
[13:58] Laurent Bechir: is it possible to have fixed rules for creators ?
[13:58] Jeremy Linden: Rules? How would they be enforced?
[13:59] Jeremy Linden: (Beyond prim count or prim equivalency)
[13:59] lonetorus Habilis: yes it will always differ by the use case in question
[13:59] lonetorus Habilis: humm, sometimes it is needed to do large textures on small prims (hud?)
[13:59] lonetorus Habilis: etc
[13:59] Laurent Bechir: I don't mean that but the fact that each situation is different so I was wondering how someone couldfix one rule to avoid lag for all situations
[13:59] lonetorus Habilis: best way would be to educate ppl
[14:00] lonetorus Habilis: so they can build and make informed decisions
[14:00] Jeremy Linden: Laurent, I think they would not be rules, as such. More like a list of good practices.
[14:00] Laurent Bechir: ok
[14:01] Laurent Bechir: like not coming with an overloaded avatar in a meeting with a lot of people, for example
[14:01] Jeremy Linden: Well, more like how to create attachments that are not so overloaded.
[14:02] Laurent Bechir: here you're talking about creators, don't you ?
[14:02] lonetorus Habilis: yes, thats what i asked about initially
[14:02] lonetorus Habilis: educational material for creators
[14:03] Jeremy Linden: If I created a wiki page for these practices, do you think people would add to it?
[14:03] Laurent Bechir: that would certainly be very interesting
[14:03] lonetorus Habilis: well, it would all have to be verified by ppl from ll
[14:04] lonetorus Habilis: most of it by more coming from different teams
[14:04] lonetorus Habilis: it would be best if LL said this is how we want our platform to be used
[14:04] lonetorus Habilis: imo
[14:04] Jeremy Linden: I think it would mostly only need to be verified if there was some dispute over whether one of the suggestions is wrong.
[14:05] lonetorus Habilis: yeah i dunno, you probably have more feel for the responsiveness of the sl wikians of sl
[14:06] Jeremy Linden: I might try creating the page as an experiment if I ever get free time again. Maybe it will be popular :-)
[14:06] Jeremy Linden: Oh! It is past 2pm. I'll cut here for the chat transcript.
[14:06] lonetorus Habilis: perhaps starts with a empty structure of topics
