You may access your Second Life account on the web by visiting https://secondlife.com/account. From here, you can manage many aspects of your Second Life membership.

Upgrading to a Premium account

To upgrade from a Basic membership to a Premium membership:

  1. Log into your Second Life account summary on the Second Life website.
  2. Click Change Membership Plan.
  3. Click the account level you would like to upgrade to.
  4. Click Save Changes.
KBnote.png Note: Accounts which upgrade from Basic to Premium are now eligible for the Premium bonus, and also receive a weekly stipend and a 512 square meter Premium tier bonus.

Downgrading to a Basic account

If you wish to downgrade your Premium or Concierge account to Basic, follow these steps:

  1. Point your web browser to https://secondlife.com/account/membership.php
  2. Select the Basic Account option.
  3. Click the Save Changes button.
KBwarning.png Warning: If you downgrade to a Basic account, you will lose all the land you own, and you will no longer have access to your weekly Linden dollar stipend or Live Chat support. Make sure to sell all your land before you downgrade! You may also wish to check your Group Land contributions and make arrangements to keep your group's land holdings in good standing.

How to cancel your account

You can always update your membership plan, including canceling it, by going to the Cancel Account page after logging in with your Second Life username and password. (This link is also shown by clicking the Account section on the left of your Dashboard.)

Once logged in, find the Cancel Account button at the bottom of the page. Your account will remain open until your billing review date, as account maintenance fees are paid in advance.

KBtip2.png Tip: If you want to keep your name in case you want to come back, but don't want to pay the US$9.95 reactivation fee, simply downgrade to a Basic account.

Can I uncancel an account?

Yes! Do this if your account is pending cancellation or has already been cancelled:

  1. Login at the Support Portal and click New Ticket Submission.
  2. Select Ticket Type: Special Questions.
  3. Select Basic or Guess Access: Account issues.
  4. Select Basic Account issues: Cancel/Un-Cancel Account.
  5. Fill in the other details as-appropriate and click Finish >> at the bottom to submit your ticket.

Re-activating a canceled account

If you have cancelled your account, there is a chance that we may be able to restore it upon your request.

Depending on the length of time during which you account was cancelled, we may or may not be able to restore your account. Even if we are able to restore your account, there is a chance that the inventory, land, and/or L$ previously associated with your account may be unrecoverable. If your account can be successfully restored, we will charge you a US$9.95 reactivation fee.

To start the process, contact our Support team with your request.

KBtip2.png Tip: If you think you want to cancel your account, you may wish to consider leaving your account active with a Basic membership. Basic memberships are free, and they never expire! This way, if you choose to revisit Second Life, your avatar and your inventory will be here waiting for you.

Scripted Agent Status

If you own a Second Life account that is primarily operated by a Scripted Agent (a "bot"), we ask that you identify it as a bot by setting its status on your Second Life account page.

By identifying bots, you can help us give you more accurate account statistics and inworld search results; for more information about bots and Scripted Agent Status, check out:
