Marketplace/2012 Category Changes

Overview

In order to address Merchant requests for Category Changes on the Second Life Marketplace, we have pulled together a summary of the changes based upon Merchant feedback and actual category use. We would like to get feedback from Merchants (and customers!) on the proposed changes. Note that these changes are meant to minimize active involvement by Merchants UNLESS those Merchants would like to take advantage of the new categories. We expect to roll out new categories in the new year, though we will consider adding new seasonal categories earlier if that is useful to Merchants.

In order to encourage feedback, we are having a contest to provide sub-categories for under the category Avatar Appearance/Avatar Components/Avatar Skins/Female Skins. Winners will receive L$2,899, the equivalent of a month long, frontpage Marketplace Product Listing Enhancement. In order to enter, please fill out the survey, including the following:

• Suggested sub-categories
• Merchant account name

Please see the Official Contest Rules for details on how to enter and how to win. The entry period is from November 12, 2012, 12:00 a.m. Pacific through November 26, 2012, 11:59 p.m. Pacific. Winners will be notified on or before December 3, 2012.

Even if you don't want to enter the contest, we'd really like to get your feedback. Please take the survey as many times as you'd like, providing feedback for one top level category per submission.

Q: Is "Structures" going to be under "Building Components" or not?
A: The category which is currently "Building Components/Structures" will be moved to a top level category named "Buildings and Other Structures". All new categories that are broken out under the current structure of "Building Components/Structures" will be directly under this new, top-level category.

Q: Where are "Window Treatments"?
A: "Window Treatments" are currently a category directly under "Home & Garden".
