[11:00] Welcome to Linden office hours
[11:01] Moon Metty: hey Erinyse
[11:01] Erinyse Planer: simon and andrew cancelled?
[11:02] Moon Metty: they never do that
[11:02] Erinyse Planer: I am so fed up with support right now...
[11:02] Moon Metty: hehehe
[11:03] Erinyse Planer: 20 minutes so far on the Please hold while we connect you
[11:03] Moon Metty: if you're not satisfied with support, contact .... support!
[11:03] Qie Niangao: is it good music-on-hold at least?
[11:03] Erinyse Planer: mean time ive been trying for 3 days to get someone to see why THIS account keeps stalling out on the download clothing part of the login
[11:04] Arawn Spitteler: Same machine, but different account? Sounds like an inventory issue
[11:04] Erinyse Planer: no its ONLY this account. every machine
[11:04] Arawn Spitteler: Every softare?
[11:04] Erinyse Planer: except the one ontyne that tried to log me in couldnt dup it.
[11:05] Erinyse Planer: A linden did though
[11:05] Arawn Spitteler: Andrew's on line
[11:05] Erinyse Planer: but wrong department
[11:05] Moon Metty: there comes Andrew flying in
[11:06] Arawn Spitteler: Still, if anyone can duplicate, that takes it out of the realm of your own confusio.
[11:06] Erinyse Planer: i need my account working
[11:07] Arawn Spitteler: Andrew may have crashed
[11:07] Jonathan Yap: Erinyse, have you tried using a text only viewer like Radegast to log on? Then you could replace your outfit, if that is what is causing the trouble
[11:07] Moon Metty: i definitely saw him flying past
[11:08] Moon Metty: ,
[11:09] Qie Niangao: Erinyse, but it's *this* account that's the problem, right? And yet, here you are. *confused*
[11:09] Erinyse Planer: took me 4 login attempts quie. I finally got lucky
[11:10] Qie Niangao: ah
[11:10] Erinyse Planer: but if i crash it will take me forever
[11:10] Jonathan Yap: Here he comes again
[11:10] Moon Metty: hey Andrew :)
[11:10] Qie Niangao: that sounds less like an Inventory problem that if you just couldn't get in at all
[11:10] Ardy Lay: One day a bought a new outfit. Logout timed out that day. When I tried to log back in I had all sorts of difficulties. I eventually got "stuck" and had to have support have a look. They restarted the region I was stuck in. When I logged in again, took forever. Once the process completed, I removed that new outfit. I tried to rez parts of it inworld and got failure messages. When I moved to land I owned and tried again, it worked, after stalling the region for half a minute. I inspected the stuff and found 5 sets of resize scripts in the whole thing. That was a mess to clean up. 144 prims in that getup.
[11:10] Andrew Linden: I made it finally.
[11:10] Morgaine Dinova: Hi Andrew
[11:10] Andrew Linden: Simon will be late. Dunno how late.
[11:10] Qie Niangao: hi Andrew The Intrepid
[11:11] Arawn Spitteler: Moon saw you flying, but you crashed, which sounds so much like a legend.
[11:11] Moon Metty: yes, and rubberbanding too
[11:11] Andrew Linden: Yeah, something happened. My system claimed that the region might have been having problems.
[11:11] tx Oh: hello
[11:11] Qie Niangao: Hi Simon
[11:11] Simon Linden: hello
[11:11] Andrew Linden: I think maybe it was netwrok related.
[11:11] Moon Metty: hi Simon :)
[11:12] Simon Linden: running from meeting to meeting today
[11:12] Rex Cronon: hi andrew
[11:12] Rex Cronon: hi simon
[11:12] Qie Niangao: /me was gonna say "Simon The Late" but that didn't sound so good
[11:12] Moon Metty: you're recognizable from a long distance Andrew :)
[11:12] Arawn Spitteler: Probably because we don't have to load his hair
[11:12] Andrew Linden: No one else runs around in purple and white.
[11:13] Moon Metty: "recognizing Lindens from quite a long way away ... #1: Andrew Linden"
[11:13] Arawn Spitteler: Erinyse has been having log in trouble, limited to only one account.
[11:13] Qie Niangao: /me tries to hide his sweater
[11:13] Andrew Linden: Well I had recently moved my desk.
[11:13] Andrew Linden: I discovered right before this hour that my windows machine was plugged into an ethernet port that wasn't wired up.
[11:14] Simon Linden: I assume you've already talked about the latest server rollout, but that's what I was watching this morning
[11:14] Andrew Linden: No, we haven't talked about it since I've been here.
[11:14] Andrew Linden: I don't even know what is in the new update.
[11:15] Moon Metty: our sim was just restarting before i TPed here
[11:15] Arawn Spitteler: It's a good thing Mo0on is here, to fill you in
[11:15] Moon Metty: lol
[11:15] Moon Metty: ehmmm
[11:16] Jonathan Yap: So Moon, what is the agenda today?
[11:16] Moon Metty: "recognizing Lindens from quite a long way away ... #1: Andrew Linden"
[11:16] Andrew Linden: Yeah. I'm out of touch with what #deploy is doing these days. I don't work on many emergency issues now. Simon gets most of those.
[11:16] Moon Metty: :D
[11:16] Simon Linden: the rollout today moves the server that's in the "BlueSteel" channel onto the rest of the grid
[11:17] Simon Linden: Tomorrow we'll get a new version in the release channels ... two this time
[11:17] Arawn Spitteler: BlueSteel?
[11:17] Moon Metty: the fast cycles make it harder to keep up with all the releases
[11:18] Andrew Linden: There are three "release candidate" channel names: BlueSteele, Magnum, and LeTigre (I think)
[11:18] Simon Linden: yeah, there's a lot of juggling going on
[11:18] Andrew Linden: I think each channel will be recycled as new RC's are ready.
[11:18] Ardy Lay: My home is included in the Blue Steel release candidate channel. If anybody is wondering, no, it has not caused any real problems.
[11:18] Simon Linden: today we're scrambling to fix a problem that actually went into the original 1.42 server ... part of the internal tool that launches regions
[11:19] Simon Linden: It mis-behaves on shutdown, and if a region crashed, can report the crash 3 or 4 times instead of once
[11:19] Ardy Lay: Region director is getting jumpy?
[11:19] Simon Linden: It makes it look like everything is going up in smoke since there appears to be a large number of crashes
[11:19] Andrew Linden: "region conductor"
[11:19] Ardy Lay: Hehe
[11:19] Simon Linden: it's our 'launcher'
[11:19] Jonathan Yap: Does that mean it would try to restart that region 3 or 4 different places?
[11:20] Simon Linden: No, it's just saying the same region crashed more than it really did
[11:20] Ardy Lay: Ah, conductor, okay. Read that in release notes, just rememberd it incorrectly.
[11:21] Andrew Linden: I don't have much news. I submitted my andrew/maint-server repository for deployment on the beta grid (aditi) but it hasn't gone up yet.
[11:22] Andrew Linden: This is the first such submission on my part. I don't really know when to expect it to come up, but I'll ask around today to try to find out.
[11:22] Jonathan Yap: Do test updates stil go on to aditi first?
[11:22] Andrew Linden: test updates first go to some internal-only test grids
[11:22] Andrew Linden: then up on aditi when they pass QA
[11:23] Arawn Spitteler: /me'd expect them to test on alpha grids
[11:24] Simon Linden: that's the normal path ... we'll short-circuit it sometimes as we find bugs in the stuff going out, or anything that's a high priority
[11:24] Moon Metty: the wiki needs a clear structure to follow all the releases
[11:26] Andrew Linden: /me looks on the wiki to see what release pages are there already.
[11:26] Moon Metty: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Beta/BlueSteel
[11:26] Moon Metty: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Beta/LeTigre
[11:26] Moon Metty: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Beta/Magnum
[11:27] Simon Linden: This week we're adding "LeTigre"
[11:27] Moon Metty: a page that's set up like an agenda would be nice
[11:28] Moon Metty: "For more information on beta projects, see: Beta Server Office Hours. " isn't a very good way to provide information :)
[11:28] tx Oh: why do i still get those "System is logging you out, account available in 5 minutes" or so, from time to time? can't it be just 1 minute if it necessary at all
[11:28] Moon Metty: there are transcripts , but that's a lot of noisy reading
[11:28] Jonathan Yap: There was a fix for that in the works tx. Has it gone out yet?
[11:29] Ardy Lay: It's a really noisy group that visits Oskar.
[11:29] Andrew Linden: tx Oh, that "persistent agent presence" bug is fixed, but not yet deployed
[11:29] Erinyse Planer: you only get 5 min? lucky
[11:29] Erinyse Planer: i get 6-10
[11:29] Simon Linden: the fix for that is going to be in one of the channels this week
[11:29] tx Oh: cool. it often happens before a meeting when i like to relog for a fresh session :-(
[11:29] Melchizedek Blauvelt: I always get 1 minute
[11:30] Melchizedek Blauvelt: (it's actually a few seconds more)
[11:30] Andrew Linden: tx Oh, the "persisten" presence bug is fixed, however you may notice that "presence" problem still, I think.
[11:30] office hours is half over
[11:30] Andrew Linden: It can happen with the system takes a long time to save all of your attchments.
[11:31] Andrew Linden: er... *persistent*
[11:31] Moon Metty: ah, is that what causes it
[11:31] Arawn Spitteler: Pestilent Presence
[11:32] Erinyse Planer: andrew what could be causing some avatars to constantly stall out at the download clothing phase of login, no matter what they are wearing or where they log into?
[11:32] Simon Linden: The real bug was a race condition combined with that attachment saving ... if the operation that says you are offline got stomped on by another that said you were online, the system got confused
[11:32] Simon Linden: under the wrong conditions the order got switched
[11:32] Moon Metty: i always had the 5 minute wait more often on aditi, compared to agni
[11:33] Erinyse Planer: id get a 5-10 minute, then 90% of the tiem get another 10 min
[11:33] Andrew Linden: Erinyse. Several things could cause stalled downloads of clothing, and we've seen all sorts. I'd have to investigate to know more.
[11:34] Erinyse Planer: feel free to try out this account next week andrew.
[11:34] Erinyse Planer: this one is giving me lots of issues
[11:34] Andrew Linden: For instance, a truly lost asset could cause the problem.
[11:35] Andrew Linden: Erinyse, you mean the "Erinyse Planer" account?
[11:35] Erinyse Planer: yes
[11:35] Erinyse Planer: its the only one of mine doing that
[11:35] Erinyse Planer: and i cant seem to figure out why.
[11:35] Andrew Linden: I could probably update the beta (aditi) account and test there.
[11:35] Arawn Spitteler: Has Erinyse tried her account on Aditi?
[11:36] Erinyse Planer: no. I havent had time to configure my veiwers to access it
[11:36] Erinyse Planer: /me shrugs
[11:36] Andrew Linden: Erinyse, do you have any inventory content on the aditi grid that you don't want to lose yet?
[11:36] Andrew Linden: If not I can update the account there to be up-to-date with the main account and test there.
[11:36] Simon Linden: If clothing isn't loading, try changing your viewer's settings for http textures to see if that makes a difference
[11:36] Erinyse Planer: far as i know andrew the only account i have on that grid is cummere
[11:37] Andrew Linden: If you're having asset system problems then they should also happen on aditi.
[11:37] Arawn Spitteler: Erinyse should be old enough.
[11:37] Qie Niangao: note that Erinyse *can* login with this account, but rarely and with much difficulty, so not sure it's an asset thing
[11:38] Erinyse Planer: so feel free to clone erinyse there, or if you want test her here, after the 30th
[11:38] Andrew Linden: ok, I'll make a note and try to test on aditi before the 30th
[11:39] Arawn Spitteler: Is Friday Meet in October?
[11:39] Andrew Linden: Yes, Oct 1 will be the next office hours
[11:39] Andrew Linden: Hrm... I think I'm not going to be at the next OH this week...
[11:39] Simon Linden: Actually, I'm not either. Taking the day off
[11:39] Erinyse Planer: Andrew you need me to submit anything to show im giving you permission to hijack my account ?
[11:40] Moon Metty: ok that's good to know
[11:40] Andrew Linden: No Erinyse, I'll just temporarily hijack on aditi. It is one of the things I can do as part of debugging.
[11:40] Qie Niangao: Crassly hyping a jira, SVC-6363 that I finally filed this morning, after three days spent trying to isolate and distill to a simple (?) repro.
[11:40]
[11:40] tx Oh: do you like to tell us when the open beta mesh will be open?
[11:41] Andrew Linden: Oh really Simon? You're taking Friday off?
[11:41] Andrew Linden: Well, if I can't make it I'll try to find another Linden to fill in on Friday.
[11:41] Moon Metty: alrighty
[11:42] Simon Linden: yep, I need another long weekend :)
[11:42] Moon Metty: Simon, last time you said something about limiting particles
[11:42] Moon Metty: ,
[11:43] Simon Linden: yeah, I found a griefer object that had a zillion scirpts, all invoking llParticleSystem()
[11:43] Erinyse Planer: simon taking off with the lady for some fun time? *giggles*
[11:43] Moon Metty: i see, so it's about limiting the number of particle systems
[11:43] Moon Metty: not limiting particles as such
[11:43] Jonathan Yap: A zillion particle systems bogs down the sim?
[11:43] Simon Linden: right, this was just flooding the sim and anyone there
[11:44] Moon Metty: each prim can have only one particle system
[11:44] Arawn Spitteler: So, it kept changing the Particle Sys?
[11:44] Arawn Spitteler: I guess that would count as a texture flood
[11:45] Simon Linden: i didn't look into what was happening under the hood, but it must have been creating a ton of updates or churn
[11:45] Moon Metty: yes, i see
[11:45] Simon Linden: It's one particle system per prim, right, not per object?
[11:46] Qie Niangao: yes
[11:46] Moon Metty: per prim, i think
[11:46] Melchizedek Blauvelt: per prim yes
[11:46] Simon Linden: must be, since I've seen engines and stuff with multiple smoke or steam emitters
[11:46] Melchizedek Blauvelt: but there are ways to reset it ofc
[11:46] Moon Metty: does the new linkparticle function have a delay?
[11:46] Erinyse Planer: hhmmm thats intresting, cuase ive seen some products sold with two differant particle scriptsin the same prim
[11:46] Simon Linden: Don't know about that
[11:47] Simon Linden: In any case, it seems like it needs a sane limit
[11:47] Andrew Linden: We've got to run to another meeting.
[11:47] Simon Linden: either to prevent rapid cycling, or some overall number limit
[11:47] Simon Linden: ah, right
[11:47] Moon Metty: yes, that sounds good
[11:47] Arawn Spitteler: Any outlandish number of scripts will lag an event.
[11:47] Simon Linden: Gotta run
[11:47] Qie Niangao: thanks Andrew and Simon
[11:48] Moon Metty: ok, well see you next week!
[11:48] Erinyse Planer: thanks andrew, thanks simon. have a good day
[11:48] Rex Cronon: tc andrew, simon
[11:48] tx Oh: byebye
[11:48] Melchizedek Blauvelt: Bye all, got to run as well
[11:48] Simon Linden: take care, bye now...
[11:48] Arawn Spitteler: CU Next Time
[11:48] Moon Metty: thanks Andrew and Simon :)
[11:48] Rex Cronon: tc everybody
[11:49] Arawn Spitteler: /me tries to remember what he was doing, when Compos Mentis
[11:49] Moon Metty: hehe
[11:49] Arawn Spitteler: Do Cannibal Zombies ever eat what doesn't agree with them?
[11:50] Ardy Lay: Zombies?
[11:50] Moon Metty: Cannibal Zombies ?? O_O
[11:51] Moon Metty: do they eat other zombies?
