REPLACE OUTFIT will take off everything it can, and replace it with the contents of the new folder.
ADD TO OUTFIT will add to your current appearance, replacing only what it must.

For example observe the following generic folder contents:

'''Folder1''':
male hair1
male shape1
male skin1
eyes1
shirt1
pants1

'''Folder2''':
female shape2
shoes2
flexi-hair2
HUD2

;Scenario 1 - REPLACE OUTFIT:
If a newbie right clicks '''Folder 1''' and selects REPLACE OUTFIT, he'll be transformed into an avatar wearing a Male Shape1, Male Hair1, Male Skin1, Eyes1, Shirt1 and Pants1.  Let's say it's a generic newbie.

If a newbie right clicks '''Folder 2''' and select REPLACE OUTFIT, the following logic applies:
#male hair1 is not removable (it can only be replaced) so it will not be removed
#male shape1 is not removable (it can only be replaced) so it will not be removed
#male skin1 is not removable (it can only be replaced) so it will not be removed
#eyes1 is not removable (it can only be replaced) so it will not be removed
#shirt1 is removable.  It is removed.
#pants1 is removable.  It is removed.
#there is no replacement hair in the target folder, so it will not be replaced
#there IS a replacement shape (female shape2) in the target folder, so it be replaced
#there is no replacement skin in the target folder, so it will not be replaced
#there is no replacement eyes in the target folder, so it will not be replaced
#there is a clothing item shoes2 which will be worn
#there is an attachment flexi-hair2 attachment which will be worn
#there is an attachment HUD2 which will be worn

In the end, the newbie will be wearing:
male hair1
female shape2
male skin1
eyes1
shoes2
flexi-hair2
HUD2

That is, the newbie would have changed from a male shape to a female shape, wearing no shirt nor pants, having male skin and hair, wearing shoes and flexi-hair and have a HUD on their screen.
;Scenario 2 - ADD TO OUTFIT:
So let's assume we are starting out with the resident wearing the contents of Folder 2.

If a newbie right clicks '''Folder 2''' and select ADD TO OUTFIT, the following logic applies:
#there IS a replacement shape (female shape2) in the target folder, so it be replaced
#there is a clothing item shoes2 which will be worn
#there is an attachment flexi-hair2 attachment which will be worn
#there is an attachment HUD2 which will be worn

In the end, the newbie will be wearing:
male hair1
female shape2
male skin1
eyes1
shirt1
pants1
shoes2
flexi-hair2
HUD2

That is, the newbie would have changed from a male shape to a female shape, fully clothed and wearing shoes even!  But will have male hair and skin, still, and will have flexi-hair and a HUD.

ADD TO OUTFITS are useful when a folder contains "partial outfits" and you'd want to add them to your current look.  For example, you can create folders of acccessories only (such as bracelets or watches or sparkle earrings).  After you dress yourself, you can right click ADD TO OUTFIT on one of these accessory folders.

There is a danger, however (I'm speaking from experience).  If you inadvertently REPLACE OUTFIT on a folder you meant to ADD TO OUTFIT, you'll end up naked wearing only a pair of earrings...

How To Quick Change Into Another Outfit Using REPLACE OUTFIT

The contents of this page is in part, a rehash of the previous page. However, I feel it warrants its own page.

Newbies will often change clothing by going into Appearances, then put on a different shirt, hair, shoes, and what-not. If all of the clothing items are stored in one folder, why do it this way?

Merits Of Replacing Outfits
  1. It's wicked fast! Replacing Outfits involve a lot less effort than picking/choosing items from your inventory, one at a time.
  2. It's an invaluable troubleshooting tool. I will discuss on another page why this is so.
  3. It will ensure that a resident will be able to look EXACTLY the way they wish to, as defined by the contents of the folder.

I will give new residents a series of "fun" custom avatars. They are DARTH VADER, DIVINE TECH BY DAITENSHI KATO, KOOLAID MAN BY BEBOP VOX, HALO AVATAR BY PARTY PUSSYCAT. If they've been coached on saving their current appearances to a folder, they will also be able to take advantage of the REPLACE OUTFIT feature.

Replace That Old Outfit!
Replace Outfit Steps
Right click the image to the left and open in a new tab or window so you can follow along.

Find a folder with your complete appearances saved in it. For example, DARTH VADER or -LOLI ANGES CREAM as the screen shot shows. Right click the folder (not the contents of the folder) and select REPLACE OUTFIT.

At this point, they'll want to learn how to look at themselves from the front. Explain that there are several methods, but show them the quickie way:

  • Press and hold the ALT key
  • Use the ARROW KEYS on your keyboard (or the WASD keys) to pan / zoom around themselves
  • Press the ESC key a couple of times to reset the camera

What's The Difference Between That and ADD TO OUTFIT?

REPLACE OUTFIT will take off everything it can, and replace it with the contents of the new folder. ADD TO OUTFIT will add to your current appearance, replacing only what it must.

For example observe the following generic folder contents:

Folder1:

male hair1
male shape1
male skin1
eyes1
shirt1
pants1

Folder2:

female shape2
shoes2
flexi-hair2
HUD2
Scenario 1 - REPLACE OUTFIT

If a newbie right clicks Folder 1 and selects REPLACE OUTFIT, he'll be transformed into an avatar wearing a Male Shape1, Male Hair1, Male Skin1, Eyes1, Shirt1 and Pants1. Let's say it's a generic newbie.

If a newbie right clicks Folder 2 and select REPLACE OUTFIT, the following logic applies:

  1. male hair1 is not removable (it can only be replaced) so it will not be removed
  2. male shape1 is not removable (it can only be replaced) so it will not be removed
  3. male skin1 is not removable (it can only be replaced) so it will not be removed
  4. eyes1 is not removable (it can only be replaced) so it will not be removed
  5. shirt1 is removable. It is removed.
  6. pants1 is removable. It is removed.
  7. there is no replacement hair in the target folder, so it will not be replaced
  8. there IS a replacement shape (female shape2) in the target folder, so it be replaced
  9. there is no replacement skin in the target folder, so it will not be replaced
  10. there is no replacement eyes in the target folder, so it will not be replaced
  11. there is a clothing item shoes2 which will be worn
  12. there is an attachment flexi-hair2 attachment which will be worn
  13. there is an attachment HUD2 which will be worn

Scenario 2 - ADD TO OUTFIT

So let's assume we are starting out with the resident wearing the contents of Folder 2.

If a newbie right clicks Folder 2 and select ADD TO OUTFIT, the following logic applies:

  1. there IS a replacement shape (female shape2) in the target folder, so it be replaced
  2. there is a clothing item shoes2 which will be worn
  3. there is an attachment flexi-hair2 attachment which will be worn
  4. there is an attachment HUD2 which will be worn

Happy Mentoring!!
