Torley Linden: Hello everyone! Good to see you here!!
Laetizia Coronet: yeah let's see if I can stick t out here this time around :)
Simon Kline: hi Torley :D
McCabe Maxsted: i really want to make more products though now, it's so much fun
Lyndsey Forager: cool bat!
Laetizia Coronet: hi Torley!
McCabe Maxsted: ahoy torley!
Torley Linden: Yipes, gotta wait for everything to rez in!
Hazelee Haller: good morning, Torley
Torley Linden: So that's the spare chair!
Angsty Rossini: Hey Torley
Angsty Rossini: Spare cushio up here :)
Torley Linden: Glad to see you all here already! =D
Torley Linden: Hehehe
Torley Linden: I was like "wahaaaaaa"
Tinsel Silvera: good morning!
McCabe Maxsted: we're the early birds and youre our worm :)
Angsty Rossini: good evening :)
Laetizia Coronet: Torley if I can stay here, we ca delete last weeks issue :)
Torley Linden: Good morning! Depending on which part of the world you are in.
Tinsel Silvera: lol
Torley Linden: Hahahahaha.
Torley Linden: Laetizia: Which one?
Torley Linden: I don't have a worm avatar yet, BTW. Many creatures, not yet a worm.
Laetizia Coronet: that where I crashed and couldn't enter Grasmere
Torley Linden: And Sylver Bu made my av -- she's on Teen Grid, what a talent.
Torley Linden: Oh Laetizia, okay, yeah we can close that out... glad you could make it in again.
Lyndsey Forager: if you were a work - you could cut yourself in half and work and play at the same time
Lyndsey Forager: *work
Laetizia Coronet: lots of talent in TSL! Iridium wears one, and BLue...
Lyndsey Forager: worm
McCabe Maxsted: hahaha
McCabe Maxsted: that would rock
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... Gangus Carter, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
McCabe Maxsted: two heads better than one
Lyndsey Forager: lol
Lyndsey Forager: so true
Buster Sword: releasing controls
Torley Linden: Yes, I'd like to know more about TSL talent but haven't had much of a chance to really explore there, let alone the "Main Grid"...
Torley Linden: I'm currently running an early internal WindLight viewer...
Torley Linden: It looks really pretty here I must say.
Laetizia Coronet: hm.. perks of being a Linden is to have access to TSL
McCabe Maxsted: oooh
Tinsel Silvera: good entrance!
McCabe Maxsted nudges you for source
Gangus Carter: lol
Torley Linden: Oooooh.
Laetizia Coronet: yeah, drop on by :)
Angsty Rossini: Do they play nicer on the Teen Grid than we do here?
Torley Linden: Hahaha McCabe well I believe it's in the source repository actually, if you know how to build your own viewer...
Torley Linden: Angsty: In some respects, I think there is more of a wide-eyed curiosity, but that comes with youth...
McCabe Maxsted: oh cool; I'll build one later, curious to see how the sky's fixed
Torley Linden: I certainly have known of griefing on TG...
Tinsel Silvera: i would think the TG griefing would be more in fun than malicious
McCabe Maxsted: how do you grief on the tg? Angry posts to myspace?
Tinsel Silvera: lol
Hazelee Haller: lol
Tinsel Silvera: good one
Torley Linden: Hahah... well you can still shoot and cage....
Angsty Rossini: hee
Laetizia Coronet: you can throw temper tantrums ;)
Torley Linden: Sometimes those who haven't read the Community Standards don't know what is griefing...
Hazelee Haller: :)
Tinsel Silvera: i read that they can't take all their clothes off - is that true?
McCabe Maxsted: hehe
Torley Linden: Yes, effectively so, Tinsel -- no Mature material there, must be PG.
Tinsel Silvera: ah
Angsty Rossini: permanent underwear :)
Tinsel Silvera: so they grief out of frustration {:o)
Lyndsey Forager: i suppose they can make clothes with 100% alpha
Hazelee Haller: They must be dying to get over here just to see what they look like. :)
Laetizia Coronet: That is a bit odd if you ask me
Lyndsey Forager: if they really wanted to
McCabe Maxsted: or nudie clothes
Torley Linden: Yeah, there are always workarounds and loopholes, but when those are spotted, they'd still get in trouble.
Laetizia Coronet: yeah when I was new I had nipples underwear ;)
Lyndsey Forager: lol
Tinsel Silvera: lol
Hazelee Haller: lol
Lyndsey Forager: do they get sent to their room?
McCabe Maxsted: hahaha
Laetizia Coronet: lol
Tinsel Silvera: i believe we are now officially derailed
Laetizia Coronet: stand in the corner with a dunce hat
Hazelee Haller: yees.
Lyndsey Forager: lol
Torley Linden: Haha, well, it's an interesting balance, isn't it... people grow up and you want to help them develop into adulthood, yet curiosity is such a driving importance of your youthful experiences...
Torley Linden: I laughed so hard at Secondfest awhile back... some of the hats there looked like dunce hats.
Hazelee Haller: in the meantime, they wait and create.
Torley Linden: And people were dancing... I couldn't help but say "dancing dunces"!
Torley Linden: I didn't mean that in a bad way of course.
Lyndsey Forager: lol
McCabe Maxsted: hahaha
Simon Kline: lol
Tinsel Silvera: apparently one 15 year old has been very productive with her time
Laetizia Coronet: lol do you have a Flickr shot of that?
Torley Linden: I know some teens who eventually graduated to MG have brought their whole portfolios with them... to have successful jobs here...
Torley Linden: Laetizia: Uh, one... sec...
McCabe Maxsted: very cool
Laetizia Coronet: oh no never mind, don't bother
Torley Linden: Tell me that doesn't look like a dunce hat or what -- http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/688151998/
Lexa Pro: mornin', kids.
Tinsel Silvera: hello lexa
Lyndsey Forager: i was at the PETA thing yesterday - some woodbury university peeps were trying to cause touble
Torley Linden: Mornin'!
McCabe Maxsted wishes there'd been a Tg when he was a teen
Daedalus Young: they were exactly like these: http://www.chrisnash.net/images/records/psb_cyfh.jpg
Tinsel Silvera: me too mccabe
Torley Linden: Woodbury University is closed?
Tinsel Silvera: yes
Lyndsey Forager: they were wearing tags that said that
Tinsel Silvera: don't you read the blogs torley?
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... Pavig Lok, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Hazelee Haller: lol
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... Pavig Lok, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Tinsel Silvera: it was blogged about many many many times
Laetizia Coronet: He does, and responds too
Torley Linden: Sadly I don't read *all* the blogs... I do read some...
Tinsel Silvera: i know {:o)
Torley Linden: the news I read is mainly in my areas of specialty.
Tinsel Silvera: i just read what feeds into planet.worldofsl
Daedalus Young: I can't even read all the blogs
Torley Linden: I'm not in Governance/Abuse so I don't really know much about that.
McCabe Maxsted: i thought it was a quasi university place, from what i read on sli
Torley Linden: It sure sounds like one of those "Only in Second Life" things.
Lyndsey Forager: lol, the signs were funny at the PETA even - "kepp fur on the furries"
Tinsel Silvera: lol
McCabe Maxsted: HAHA
Tinsel Silvera: amen
Hazelee Haller: :)
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... DAODE Loon, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Laetizia Coronet: yeah that's a dunce hat alright :)
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... DAODE Loon, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
McCabe Maxsted: "I yiff for peta"
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... DAODE Loon, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Torley Linden: Long... tall... cone...
Lyndsey Forager: lol
Torley Linden: McCabe: Now there's a collision of cultures!
Torley Linden: "Spay and neuter..." uh...
McCabe Maxsted: an entire subclass of activism!
Torley Linden: HAHAHA.
Tinsel Silvera: i know
Lyndsey Forager: ha ha ha
Torley Linden: It's just so interesting seeing like, urban hip-hop types talk to university professors and such on here.
Tinsel Silvera: pam anderson is coming inworld for the next peta demonstration
Torley Linden: I always like hearing about unique blends like that and learning more.
Lyndsey Forager: really?
Tinsel Silvera: yes
Torley Linden: Pam Anderson will have an avatar that looks like her too?
Laetizia Coronet: Tinsel, she won't stand out amidst the usual avatars
Hazelee Haller: now we have everyone's attention
McCabe Maxsted: it's fascinated! I discovered a friend of mine was a 60 year old design professor
Tinsel Silvera: apparently and it will be nude bed=hind a banner
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... Pavig Lok, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Torley Linden: She'll be pleased to know she's had many forerunners... who can help her out. :o)
Lyndsey Forager: she will not have the biggest chest in sl - lol
Tinsel Silvera: behind that is
McCabe Maxsted: and he went around wearing a "spank my monkey" shirt
Torley Linden: Lyndsey: We gotta show her the sculptie stores, right? ;)
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... Pavig Lok, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Laetizia Coronet: I do have a slow Baywatch run for her if she wants :D
Lyndsey Forager: ha - so true!
Tinsel Silvera: in SL she will be just one of many beautiful women
Tinsel Silvera: laetizia lol
McCabe Maxsted: haha
Torley Linden: Laetizia: Haha, and there's a lot of David Hasselhoff textures I think.
Hazelee Haller: true tinsel
Lyndsey Forager: the baywatch run is so funny
Lyndsey Forager: i love the slow mo
DAODE Loon: hello ebveryone
Torley Linden: Oh how the tides have turned... Pam Anderson, I wonder if she picked an av unlike her RL self... what would it be like...
Tinsel Silvera: hello haode
Laetizia Coronet: ugh, Haselhoff
Tinsel Silvera: daode
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... Chase Marellan, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... Chase Marellan, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Hazelee Haller: hello daode
Lexa Pro: wow, a 'hoff avatar would be pretty sweet. i must go shopping.
McCabe Maxsted: have you seen hasselhoff's music vid?
Torley Linden: I like the Baywatch run and the Bionic Man jump.
Torley Linden: Put them together and you may have something fantastic.
Laetizia Coronet: Maybe she comes as a furry
Tinsel Silvera: bionic man
Lyndsey Forager: brilliant
Torley Linden: I've seen Hasselhoff's "Hooked on a Feeling". INCREDIBLE RUSH OF HILARITY.
McCabe Maxsted: I KNOW!
Tinsel Silvera: actaully mccabe can do that jump now
Lexa Pro: ooga-chaka
Simon Kline: hehehe yes!
Laetizia Coronet: Tor we could download that bionic man sound
Tinsel Silvera: yes
Tinsel Silvera: we need that sound in here
Torley Linden: Ch-ch-ch-ch-chhhhhhhhh!
Torley Linden: *slam dunk*
McCabe Maxsted: haha so true
Tinsel Silvera: very good torley
Lyndsey Forager: lol
Tinsel Silvera: hello pavig
Torley Linden: Again glad to see you all here and welcome to my Office Hour... =D
Lyndsey Forager: i will didg out a red swimsuit
Pavig Lok: hello peoples
McCabe Maxsted: can someone send me the baywatch run?
Tinsel Silvera: hey chase
Lyndsey Forager: lol
Laetizia Coronet: right, to go with that building thing with those glowing balls ccoming from your hands
Chase Marellan: Hey, all
Torley Linden: And just to let you guys know, in case you miss a week and want to catch up or whatever, I'm posting transcripts...
Torley Linden: @ https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden
McCabe Maxsted: oh, coolness
DAODE Loon: sorry i didnt bring anything watermelon related torley
Lyndsey Forager: really? excellent
Tinsel Silvera: cool
Daedalus Young: yes, I noticed
McCabe Maxsted: transcripts are a great idea
Torley Linden: No worries DAODE! Nice to have you here.
Torley Linden: Yeah, I know some other Lindens have been doing it, and it's useful to keep a tally of "Hey what was that cool link?"
DAODE Loon: thnx
McCabe Maxsted: i read benjamin's
Torley Linden: As always if you have cool places you've been inworld lately, please send me landmarks... I love exploring.
Torley Linden: It's been great helping Benjamin with his UI Bug Triages...
Daedalus Young: that was fun
Pavig Lok: er yer can come to sim i just finished kinda if you want to look
Hazelee Haller: will do
McCabe Maxsted: thanks lae!
Daedalus Young: gives you a good feeling of progress being made
DAODE Loon gave you The LOLO PET SHOP (main store).
Laetizia Coronet: np McCabe :)
Torley Linden: Right on *gets landmarks*
McCabe Maxsted: I really want LL to hold a UI creation contest
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: How so McCabe?
McCabe Maxsted: so it'll give people incentive to come up with something other than the communicate window
Torley Linden: Pavig: The big house you've been working on, Greenies?
Pavig Lok gave you Greenies Home Rezzable PREVIEW (sim pav has been working on).
McCabe Maxsted: like a winamp skin for sl
Pavig Lok: yups
Torley Linden: Right on, Pavig, that is such a fun place to be -- http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/790249340/
McCabe Maxsted: oh, that place is fun!
Torley Linden: McCabe: By the way, do you recommend any UI mockup tools?
Pavig Lok: heee thanks :P not finished yet but it gettin there
McCabe Maxsted: I've been using photoshop strictly out of habit
Torley Linden: There was a related topic I was thinking of... Residents who want to attach pictures of UI mockups to Issue Tracker issues, but don't know how to make them...
Lyndsey Forager: I was wondering if anyone had ideas on what i could get a young guy for his 24th Birthday - he is a dj in sl - any suggestions?
Tinsel Silvera: hello jurin
Torley Linden: Ahhh. I know we have a new User Experience Designer, Erica, and she's made some really cool Photoshop mockups.
Jurin Juran: hey
Hazelee Haller: lol
Laetizia Coronet: Lyndsay, he has his own show? I could make him a custom shirt or jacket
Torley Linden: Lyndsey: Hm... that's a good question... what kinda music does he DJ?
Tinsel Silvera: hello scope
Lyndsey Forager: wow, yes
Torley Linden: Heyhey!
Scope Cleaver: Hello Tinsel
McCabe Maxsted: get him rocket boots :)
Tinsel Silvera: hello phil
Lyndsey Forager: he is very dancy - electronica and uk indie
Laetizia Coronet: always glad to push my own business :D
Lexa Pro: he's hired.
Lexa Pro: =)
Tinsel Silvera: hey deathlok
Torley Linden: Hmmm Lyndsey, does he already have a nice pair of prim headphones?
Pavig Lok: oooOOooo has anyone noticed the supercolorful interface issue yet?
Deathlok Mills: hi
Tinsel Silvera: how are you today?
Lyndsey Forager: i dont think so - thats a good idea
Deathlok Mills: dood you
Tinsel Silvera: good same
McCabe Maxsted: does erica hold office hours? I emailed benjamin about doing some opensource ui's but haven't heard back. Would love to talk to her
Deathlok Mills: dont see you yet
Torley Linden: There's this one particular model that's hard to create, the Sony MDJ-700, but done in prims, it looks amazing. I've seen two Residents make inspired versions of it over time... the first was Ezequal Torgeson... the seocnd I do not know.
McCabe Maxsted: haha
Tinsel Silvera: i am in front of you sitting
Lyndsey Forager: cool
McCabe Maxsted: a friend of ine bought that irl because of the one in sl, torley!
Deathlok Mills: o
Torley Linden: McCabe: Great question, she doesn't yet. Neither does Gillian (another new UI expert), but they eventually will I believe. IMing them and letting them know your interest may help too.
Tinsel Silvera: lol
Torley Linden: McCabe: Really? HAWT. :D
Deathlok Mills: i see you now
McCabe Maxsted: :) thanks
Torley Linden: I have real MDJ-700s... but that is cool.
Laetizia Coronet: Torley, you don't own rights to the name Torgeson, do you?
Torley Linden: Laetizia: No I don't. haha.
Torley Linden: I am an ex-Torgeson for anyone who knows my history...
Torley Linden: I used to be Torley Torgeson, aka T2
Lyndsey Forager: lol, t2
Torley Linden: That was before I started working at Linden Lab.
Laetizia Coronet: good, I am making a race truck with phoney sposoring
Torley Linden: Haha Laetizia, I wanna see that, you're doing all the decals and stuff?
Laetizia Coronet: one is Torgeson Performance in Watermelon colors
Laetizia Coronet: yep
Tinsel Silvera: cool
Lyndsey Forager: there cant be many folks that have changed their name on sl
Laetizia Coronet: another one is Rosedale Interim Management hehehe
Torley Linden: Hahahah I like the sound of that Laetizia -- that's great.
Torley Linden: Lyndsey: Yes, very few comparatively speaking.
Deathlok Mills: well i g2g so bye
Torley Linden: I have often found myself falling into odd situations.
Tinsel Silvera: bye
Torley Linden: Bye Deathlok, thanks for coming!
Hazelee Haller: bye deathlok
Lyndsey Forager: it would be nice if partners could change their surname
McCabe Maxsted: take care!
Chase Marellan: bye
DAODE Loon: bye
Tinsel Silvera: i agree lyndsey
Chase Marellan: Lyndsey: I'll second that
Gangus Carter: im finally not wearing my evil avatar lol
McCabe Maxsted: i wonder if you can get around banlists if you change your name
Laetizia Coronet: it would be nce if people could change name anyway
Torley Linden: Yeah, that's been something wanted for a long time.
Chase Marellan: by the time I convinced my wife to sign up, Marellan was off the list.
Torley Linden: "Name changes" are one of those big floating clouds... that we never forget about.
Tinsel Silvera: can we buy names now?
Chase Marellan: Why's it so difficult?
Hazelee Haller: yes, we all have wishes for names that are now gone
Laetizia Coronet: In Italy people keep their own last name when married - a sig of emancipation if you ask me
McCabe Maxsted: i'm pretty sure there was a blogpost about buying new names
Tinsel Silvera: i saw that as well
Hazelee Haller: yes, can we buy a name that is gone
Tinsel Silvera: but it was in the works so to speak
Lyndsey Forager: a girl i work with was the last person in her family with aird as a surname - her husband took her surname
Chase Marellan: Hazelee: do you have info on that?
Laetizia Coronet: and businesses can buy names like MillionsOfUs
Chase Marellan: Oh, you said "can we" not "we can".
Chase Marellan: sorry. :)
Torley Linden: Hazelee, I don't recall us making that offer.
Hazelee Haller: no, I don't. I wish I did -- just read something in the blogs
Torley Linden: Oh, pardon, I misread too!
Torley Linden: :X
Tinsel Silvera: i read in the blogs as well
Hazelee Haller: maybe I mistyped
McCabe Maxsted: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-195
Tinsel Silvera: so once a name is retired it is gone forever torley?
Pavig Lok: i like that ou can't choose your name - it a bit dehumanizing being called "pavig <insert corporation here>"
Chase Marellan: No, we just misread. :)
McCabe Maxsted: for those who want to vote :)
Torley Linden: A long time ago we did have meetings inworld to ask for suggestions with this.
Hazelee Haller: :)
Torley Linden: Yes Tinsel, that's correct.
Tinsel Silvera: ah
Torley Linden: Names are kinda like beanie babies that way.
McCabe Maxsted: how long does it take for new names to come into use?
Tinsel Silvera: lol
Laetizia Coronet: Pavig in protest I'd pick the first ame "Drone" :)
Tinsel Silvera: can i quote you on that? {:o)
McCabe Maxsted: i've noticed a lot of the same last name lately
Hazelee Haller: I am not sure I want to be a beanie baby. :)
Pavig Lok: heh
Tinsel Silvera: that would be a great opening line for my blog today
McCabe Maxsted: haha
Lexa Pro: a friend of mine just had a heck of a time finding a common female name for her account.
Lexa Pro: took us about an hour to find something that worked, easily.
Laetizia Coronet: strange
Pavig Lok: i like it.. it give an indication of vintage, like if you meet someone with a surname you often know their age give or take
Daedalus Young: for last name changes on partnership, vote for it at https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-195
Laetizia Coronet: yes I like that too, a Coronet is late 2006
Lexa Pro: might be time to roll out new last names.
Lyndsey Forager: i dont see many foragers now
Chase Marellan: Thanks, Daedalus
Daedalus Young: yw
Tinsel Silvera: question - can you change your last name if the one you want has not yet been retired?
McCabe Maxsted: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-382
Hazelee Haller: I would love to see a whole new list of names come on board
McCabe Maxsted: also don't forget ts one
Torley Linden: Tinsel: No, unfortunately generally not...
Tinsel Silvera: okay
Chase Marellan: You can't change your name unless you get a job with Linden.
Torley Linden: It's an intriguing history...
Torley Linden: because last names used to be retired after, say, 150 uses.
Hazelee Haller: Ok. I want to get a job with Linden. :)
Tinsel Silvera: just asking since all this is going back and forth
Torley Linden: Now, it's in the high thousands, because we get so many new registrants a day entering Second Life.
Simon Kline: how do the surnames get selected?
Tinsel Silvera: Linden name is forever! {:o)
Laetizia Coronet: ah
McCabe Maxsted: google search simon? haha
Torley Linden: Simon: There used to be internal Linden suggestions... and then a new list would be put up. It was an office game, "Hey everyone, let's have a theme and pick some names!"
Laetizia Coronet: that explains the Ohs and the Loons ev erywhere
Simon Kline: hahahah cool
Torley Linden: Nowadays they come up in themes still I think...
Torley Linden: but too many Lindens to poll. We have something like 200+ employees now.
Tinsel Silvera: it is intersting the last names and the sim names
Laetizia Coronet: Torley get some international avis to raid their phone books for names
Torley Linden: A funny name for an alt would be "Tooney Loons"...
Tinsel Silvera: wow - LL is growing fast
Simon Kline: if you guys ever need suggestions we could come up with some here i'm sure
Tinsel Silvera: lol
McCabe Maxsted: hahaha
Torley Linden: Haha OMG someone took tooney Loon.
McCabe Maxsted: that's awesome!
Lyndsey Forager: i have notice there are lots of regions with names of tiny scottish places - i cant remember them offhand
Laetizia Coronet: I know an LZ Loon - straight Vietnam reference
Tinsel Silvera: it is hard to come up with first names
Torley Linden: Yeah -- I think we need a better system, because there would be no end of shortage of last names, that's for sure.
Tinsel Silvera: there are so many picking so fast
Torley Linden: Regions also have themes...
Pavig Lok: you might enjoy proust tinsel. he got a whole chapter just about the names of train stations :P
Tinsel Silvera: like the caledon regions
Torley Linden: Some of the weirder-named regions came about because of Jack's interest in sci-fi.
McCabe Maxsted: my fav name i've seen in sl was Sexin Graves
Laetizia Coronet: lol
Tinsel Silvera: i will check that out pavig
Tinsel Silvera: oh i like that
Laetizia Coronet: thsat's gross
Lexa Pro: my favorite, to date, has been "johnson colossus"
Simon Kline: i love the surnames that's been used i'm finding relations i never knew i had
Hazelee Haller: gross but unique
Laetizia Coronet: I know a Humble Showboat :)
Daedalus Young: PleaseWakeMeUp Idler is a good one
Chase Marellan: I'd be interested to see if any last names disappear entirely when you kill off the never-been-logged accounts.
Tinsel Silvera: some of the people you meet and it is hard not to laugh at the names
Tinsel Silvera: lol
Hazelee Haller: Daed that is a good one
McCabe Maxsted: hahaha
Lyndsey Forager: do accounts that have been long time abandoned get deleted?
DAODE Loon gave you SWAT HQ, Mega Resort (206, 95, 23).
Hazelee Haller: Yes, what happens when people go away -- will their names ever come up?
Torley Linden: Oh great thanks for the landmark DAODE.
Laetizia Coronet: maybe I should have picked Coroner Coronet
Torley Linden: Hazelee: When an account is closed, you mean?
Tinsel Silvera: maybe recylcle the dead account names
Torley Linden: And it depends...
Torley Linden: OK, say for example, someone owns land, but doesn't pay for it...
Torley Linden: And they never log in...
Hazelee Haller: Yes, they may have had a name that I really wanted --
Daedalus Young: I always thought Lolizia would fit you better, Laetizia :P
Lexa Pro: livejournal is doing that now, releasing long-dead account names.
Torley Linden: So they get marked as Delinquent, and then their account is disabled, so no, they won't show up in Search.
Randal Kline: reused names will have a big effect on creations
Laetizia Coronet: yes some of those griefer alts hog the cool names
Torley Linden: But we don't recycle or reuse names.
Tinsel Silvera: i read that LL was purging the dead accounts
Tinsel Silvera: i know laetizia
Torley Linden: We haven't begun a purge yet that I know of, but I know there's been internal discussion about it...
Chase Marellan: There's been external talk abut it too.
Torley Linden: May free up some load.
Tinsel Silvera: i wuld think it would
Chase Marellan: I think it was on the economic statistics page
Pavig Lok: it would be horrible to end up with the name of an ex griefer alt still on banlinks and such
Torley Linden: Especially concerns of people who ask, "All these accounts are taking up space and doing nothing, really."
Torley Linden: Ahh.
McCabe Maxsted: i really hope you don't recycle names. There are some people's names i don't want to ever see agian
Lexa Pro: but yeah, if the people who used to use the names created objects that are still in-world, that'd be a database issue, wouldn't it?
Tinsel Silvera: that would be bad pavig
Lyndsey Forager: its a huge number - over 8 million resis now
Laetizia Coronet: Do you consider meanigs of names in different languages? For example, a famous Dutch detective (fiction) is called De Cock
Tinsel Silvera: wow
Chase Marellan: But wait a minute, isn't everything actually stored by UUID internally?
Hazelee Haller: :)
Torley Linden: Yeah, it feels kinda weird, I mean, if you reused someone's name and got their inventory and essentially reincarnated them... that'd be kinda FREAKY
Hazelee Haller: I see your point.
McCabe Maxsted: haha, total zombie moment
Laetizia Coronet: and I even found a Dutchman named Prick in Wikipedia
Chase Marellan: I mean you're not really storing things on banlists and object owners by name, are you?
Torley Linden: Laetizia: As we get more international Lindens we become more aware of that. We also historically know any last name with "Lind" in it is problematic re: Linden impersoantors. :p
Angsty Rossini: bad karma to re-use someone else's name/identity
Torley Linden: Chase: Well, my name got changed, but my avatar ID stays the same.
Lexa Pro: actually, i was talking to a friend about this recently...not sure what the policy is on this, officially, but has anyone asked to will their SL account to someone else?
Lyndsey Forager: ive been caught out by the "lindemans"
Chase Marellan: So it shouldn't affect banlists, etc.
Pavig Lok: lindmans are worrisome
Tinsel Silvera: like when that young man got killed recently
Hazelee Haller: Good point Lexa
Tinsel Silvera: his mom is in here now
Laetizia Coronet: Lyndsey, common Dutch/Flemish name, brand name too
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... Aprikat Wildcat, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Torley Linden: Lexa: Excellent question. While rare, I think we do have something in the ToS about that -- and when I was asked that last, our policy is to show you are indeed stated in the will, and fax those legal documents to us, so we can let you properly inherit the account.
Tinsel Silvera: that is good to know
McCabe Maxsted: cool
Tinsel Silvera: and a good policy to have
Torley Linden: It is certainly something that will become more common as Second Life and online worlds become more ubiquitous.
Hazelee Haller: I'm glad to know an account can continue if the family wishes it
Tinsel Silvera: i agree
DAODE Loon: np
Tinsel Silvera: i want to outlive my keyboardist
Lyndsey Forager: i like when people make funny name - i have a friend called getsome oh
Torley Linden: And an avatar can mean so much to someone... it's not just the "stuff" but the whole human experience.
Lexa Pro: awesome. now, to figure out who gets to play the 2nd lexa. this is like dr. who.
Chase Marellan: Especially since there's potentally US$ involved.
Torley Linden: Lyndsey: Hahaha...
Chase Marellan: Lexa: ahahaha
Torley Linden: Lexa: Ahh regenerations!
Hazelee Haller: I agree -- families get attached to avatars.
McCabe Maxsted: hahaha lexa
Torley Linden: For the record, the Dr. Who theme is one of my FAVES.
McCabe Maxsted was named after dr. who irl
Tinsel Silvera: mine as well
Chase Marellan: That would be a cool animation
Tinsel Silvera: big who fan
Lyndsey Forager: Ohh ew ohhhhh
Torley Linden: "This avatar has been in the family for 300 years"... reminds me of an Isaac Asimov novel.
Hazelee Haller: I'm a big Dr. Who fan myself
Lyndsey Forager: lol
Tinsel Silvera: i just bought a tardis the other day
Lexa Pro has a dr who pinball machine replica now.
McCabe Maxsted: i have a dalek av!
Chase Marellan: Torley: now THAT would be cool.
Tinsel Silvera: cool mccabe
Lyndsey Forager: dr who rawks
Lexa Pro: and a tardis, one of the many that've been made in-world.
Laetizia Coronet: Dr Who scared little Laetizia
Tinsel Silvera: i am still learning to fly mine
Lexa Pro: yeah, i've got daleks, too.
Chase Marellan: The key is to make a tardis that's bigger on the inside than the outside. :)
Tinsel Silvera: my fav doctor was tom baker
Hazelee Haller: I think there are a lot of Dr. Who fans in here.
Hazelee Haller: Tinsel, that was my favorite too
Lyndsey Forager: i was amazed by the end of series 3 dr who - the face of bo revelation was amazing
Laetizia Coronet: my fav doctors were Flying DOctors lol
Chase Marellan: I'm a peter davison fan myself.
DAODE Loon: silvester macoy is mine
McCabe Maxsted: don't tlel me, i haven't seen the new series all the way thorugh yet
Lexa Pro: the new show's worked wonders for that. i'm one of those philistines who never watched the older series, but i love the new stuff.
Tinsel Silvera: of course the latest one is good as well
Pavig Lok: i still likes tom baker.. (cause my telly not work :( )
Lexa Pro: i keep meaning to start on the older series, though.
Lyndsey Forager: david tennant is very yummy
McCabe Maxsted: haha
Laetizia Coronet: or Dr Dre of course
McCabe Maxsted: have you seen teh tom baker impersonater prank calls?
Daedalus Young: Dokter Bernard
Tinsel Silvera: no
Laetizia Coronet: baaaah Daedalus! lol
Tinsel Silvera: on bbc?
Daedalus Young: lol
Chase Marellan: He's got a fantastic voice.
Chase Marellan: My wife still swoons over it.
Tinsel Silvera: lol
Laetizia Coronet: zit gelijk in mijn hoofd... hum
Torley Linden: Wow!
Lyndsey Forager: tom baker was so funny in monarch of the glen - i went on set there , the castle is called ardverikie house
Torley Linden: Lots of Who talk. :D
Tinsel Silvera: yes he was
Tinsel Silvera: good show btw
Torley Linden: I really like Tom Baker's scarf. It's a gem.
Lexa Pro: tinsel: did you get the random teleporter tardis?
Torley Linden: I've seen some nice TARDISes in here in my time...
Torley Linden: and some Daleks as well.
Lexa Pro: those are a lot of fun.
Tinsel Silvera: i need to add that to mine
Hazelee Haller: the Daleks still scare me.
Laetizia Coronet: all I ever saw was a Bender
Lyndsey Forager: i see bbc caneda are part of the production in the modern dr who
Lexa Pro: highly recommended if you like to explore.
McCabe Maxsted: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r18572304-Dr-Who-The-Doctor-calls
Tinsel Silvera: cool
Tinsel Silvera: got it
Angsty Rossini: I LOVED the Bender Avatar!!
Pavig Lok: hehe when i was young and reckless we released some daleks at a friends place on a private estate
Lexa Pro: lemme dig up a link.
Shlomi Brando: Hi all
Lyndsey Forager: hiys shlomi
Tinsel Silvera: i have some daleks but they stay in my inventory
Tinsel Silvera: hello
Chase Marellan: Not to interrupt the Who talk, but the talk of the TARDIS reminded me: is there any way to build, say, a room that keeps conversations from being heard outside of it?
Lyndsey Forager: ohh, that would be cool
Laetizia Coronet: yeah, make 21m thick walls....
Angsty Rossini: A Coner of Silence??
Pavig Lok: and the neighbors got angry so we grabbed em all back.. but one went for the ocean and spent the next 2 weeks swimming around the island between return parcels saying "exterminate" before they caught it
Tinsel Silvera: that wuld be nice
Tinsel Silvera: or once that cameras can't be moved into
Chase Marellan: Angsty: exactly
Randal Kline: someone asked this "Can anyone confirm whether it's possible to pay the initial island cost, plus a year's worth of fees, all in one go? " anyone?
Torley Linden: We did have some internal discussions before...
Laetizia Coronet: but yes I have been thinking of that too
McCabe Maxsted: Exterminate!
Tinsel Silvera: cool
Lyndsey Forager: ha ha
Tinsel Silvera: *chills*
Laetizia Coronet: also shop walls that don't show the floating text of the competition nextdoor
Lyndsey Forager: great sound
Torley Linden: about using space UNDER THE GROUND to be quiet. But with the current physics model and such, my understanding is that it's difficult to block cameras from going into somewhere...
Hazelee Haller: that voice gives me thje chills
Tinsel Silvera: ah
Torley Linden: I suppose an alternate way to approach this would be better group IM (easier to get into, more reliable, easier to create "chat groups" of people on the fly...)
Tinsel Silvera: i know your camera can only go so far into the ground and then it wraps back around
McCabe Maxsted: i would love to have a basement house, like askybox
Chase Marellan: I'd settle for group IM that works...
McCabe Maxsted: you can disable that in the client settings tinsel
Tinsel Silvera: therer is a house in here with a basement
Torley Linden: Tinsel: There are ways to trick that too, tho, I think that may be reinforced just on the viewer-side... (not sure)... so someone with a modified viewer might circumvent this.
Tinsel Silvera: ah
Torley Linden: Or as McCabe said.
Hazelee Haller: I've seen a house with a basement in here
Torley Linden: It's a double-edged sword because...
Torley Linden: camera flexibility is terribly important for building.
Lexa Pro: tardis random teleport thingy: http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=288080
Torley Linden: Client menu > Disable Camera Constrants.
Tinsel Silvera: yes it is
Tinsel Silvera: thanks lexa
Lexa Pro: highly recommended if you like exploring.
McCabe Maxsted: ooh awesome lea
Torley Linden: Oooh! *checks out Tardis*
Tinsel Silvera: cool
McCabe Maxsted: or ctrl-alt-c
McCabe Maxsted: if you want to use a shortcut
Torley Linden: I want to get a scarf like Tom Baker, that's for sure.
Tinsel Silvera: you need a watermelon scarf torley
Torley Linden: Hahahaha.
Hazelee Haller: will look good on you Torley
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Lyndsey Forager: and a big black hat
Tinsel Silvera: yes
Torley Linden: Hahahah I do have a watermelon TARDIS somewhere!
Laetizia Coronet: You'll never get rid of that watermeln theme
Tinsel Silvera: no way
McCabe Maxsted: hahah, omg, a friend was going to knit me one irl. I nearly learned how to knit myself to make it
Tinsel Silvera: i want a copy please
Lyndsey Forager: torley - do you like other kinds of melon too?
DAODE Loon: what is it about water melones you love so much torley
Torley Linden: Not really, just watermelon. I'm kinda particular that way. :D
McCabe Maxsted: why do you like watermelon torley?
Torley Linden: DAODE: Many things, color, taste, smell, the fact they make great helmets...
Lyndsey Forager: not even a nice juicy galia on a hot day?
Tinsel Silvera: lol
Torley Linden: My Dad used to tell me stories of Chinese Robin Hoods...
Laetizia Coronet: Every time I enter the supermarket I am reminded of Torley... kinda odd :)
Torley Linden: who'd rob watermelon trucks...
Torley Linden: and give them to the poor.
Hazelee Haller: they make great helmets?
Torley Linden: To feed them, since watermelon can feed so many.
Torley Linden: I was joking (somewhat) about the Helmets thing...
Torley Linden: but they're fun to carve.
Lyndsey Forager: awww, thats cool
Tinsel Silvera: lol
Hazelee Haller: lol
McCabe Maxsted: that's awesome!
McCabe Maxsted: hehe
Tinsel Silvera: question torley - is it true that prim liter drags on the sims performance?
Laetizia Coronet: of course Tinsel
Torley Linden: Tinsel: Can you please give more details about what type of litter this is?
Tinsel Silvera: just wanted to make sure
Torley Linden: For example, if you drop a bunch of physical cubes... or heavily scripted ones... then yes, that does affect server-side performance.
Tinsel Silvera: a lot of crap being put out
Laetizia Coronet: extra prims is extra stuff to render for the viewer is't it?
McCabe Maxsted: more prims = more lag, general rule
Torley Linden: But if it's mainly complex geometry, then that's viewer-side (on your end), and you can hide those prims and speed up...
Tinsel Silvera: so many areas are getting littered til they are full
Torley Linden: Sometimes I temporarily do Ctrl-Alt-Shift-9 to hide objects inworld
Laetizia Coronet: plus it ruins photo ops, the Lindens do need to clean up more!
Torley Linden: Tru dat about the Photo Ops.
Torley Linden: Well, there's another trick too...
Lyndsey Forager: i would love the ad farms to go - they make pretty places orrible
Tinsel Silvera: well it is more on abandoned properties that have not yet been reclaimed
McCabe Maxsted shudders at the ad farms
Torley Linden: Client menu > Rendering > Hide Selected, then drag over a bunch of prims to hide them temporarily.
Torley Linden: I wish we had a way to make that more persistent...
Torley Linden: Eyesores make you very sad.
Lexa Pro: i've had to make a huge monolith on the front of my property, surrounding an ad tower.
Tinsel Silvera: and you can do this to objects put out by others?
Laetizia Coronet: visit my Flickr for a shot of Grasmere (yes) with two freebie yachts... been here for a least a month and they show up on the map now too
Torley Linden: Tinsel: Yes but it only works for as long as they're selected.
Tinsel Silvera: ah
McCabe Maxsted: why not ban an object from being rendered? like muting but for visibility?
Torley Linden: Oh gosh, Laetizia, are those on a Linden parcel?
Lexa Pro: granted, it's cool looking, but it's 16 rather pointless prims i'm using the box in an ad tower.
Tinsel Silvera: so good for photos and such then - glad to know that
Laetizia Coronet: yes Torley AFAIK close to Blue's chair back here
Lexa Pro: guy who owned the land in front of me busted it up into 16s.
Torley Linden: McCabe -- Dale Glass, Cube Linden, and some others have a lot to say about that, I think... there are side-effect problems I believe.
Tinsel Silvera: i may have sent you a landmark on those torley
Torley Linden: I've been asking some Lindens to turn on autoreturn.
Tinsel Silvera: i remember seeing them
Lexa Pro: i got rid of all but 64 sq. m.
Hazelee Haller: We can't clean up other places in SL, but would like to see this area always kept clean.
Lexa Pro: and there's only ads on the one 16, but it's still annoying.
Laetizia Coronet: they are moored at that large flower, not exactly sure on whose land they are
Lexa Pro: thankfully, no one can or will ever see their ads without really looking. =)
Tinsel Silvera: i alwasy click on the objects to see if they are linden owned or not before i act
McCabe Maxsted: hehe
Torley Linden: Yes, I agree... hmmm okay Laetizia if you have a SLURL just so I can make sure, I can check them out...
Torley Linden: It's nice to keep things tidy, even in a digital world!
Lyndsey Forager: do you think it will be long beofre peole are connecting their own open souce servers to sl? - would the have to pay tier?
Tinsel Silvera: yes i agree torley
McCabe Maxsted: is autoreturn not enabled by default?
Torley Linden: Lyndsey: That is still likely far off. I don't have any new info on open-sourcing the server...
McCabe Maxsted: because that might help
Daedalus Young: I once found a lot of watermelon colored spheres at the bottom of a lake
Laetizia Coronet: Torley, I don't have a SLURL but it's due north of here in this very sim
Tinsel Silvera: but at the same time we can't bombard you with all the areas needing cleaned
DAODE Loon: torley i watched you clip on youtube and couldnt fing the magic beanstalk
Lexa Pro: god, dreamhost is going to hate us when SL server is open-sourced.
Daedalus Young: all physical too
Lexa Pro: =)
Torley Linden: McCabe: No it isn't, sadly! Altho when we setup new Linden VIllage parcels (Pathfinder mainly does that I reckon), we should.
Torley Linden: Lexa: Haha, what do you envision coming?
Torley Linden: DAODE: Ah! That's in the middle of Welsh!
Torley Linden: You can't miss it.
Torley Linden: Or go to Search > Places and look for "beanstalk"
Torley Linden: It's like, the only match in there.
Chase Marellan: When land is abandoned, is it available for anybody to claim?
Tinsel Silvera: i have an eye on a couple of places that are abandoned but not available yet
DAODE Loon: thnx
Hazelee Haller: Me. too.
Chase Marellan: How does that work?
Torley Linden: A long time ago, land abandoned used to go Public...
Torley Linden: so ANYONE could snatch it...
Lexa Pro: well, eventually, because people are not going to easily be able to set up and host their own estates, companies like dreamhost and whatnot are going to have to pick up the slack. i think i've heard daniel talking about you guys eventually being just another hosting provider or something to that effect once server's open-sourced.
Laetizia Coronet: From the map: Grasmere 112, 198
Torley Linden: Nowadays tho, if it's owned by Governor Linden, it's far more likely to be reauctioned off.
Torley Linden: Thanks Laetizia *makes a note to check it out soon*
Tinsel Silvera: so reclaimed land goes to governor linden?
Lexa Pro: i'm paraphrasing there, but the way it looks, if server does get open-sourced, that's a whole new market for these companies to explore and beinfuriated by. =)
Torley Linden: Lexa: Ah, I understand better what you're saying -- and we are seeing motion towards that sort of area. You know how now when you join SL, you get a choice of different Orientation experiences?
Laetizia Coronet: let's hope one day he gets reclaimed land with a hair and skin shop on it :P
Torley Linden: We're broadening it up that way...
Tinsel Silvera: so i just need to wait and watch the auctions?
Torley Linden: Tinsel: Generally, yes. The Governor will reclaim abandoned and delinquent land...
Tinsel Silvera: cool
Hazelee Haller: When land is abandoned, what happens to objext on the land? Does owner still retain.
Torley Linden: Hazelee: When we're reauctioning it, then it all gets returned.
Tinsel Silvera: can we petition LL to reclaim a land sooner rather than later (i.e., it's an eyesore right now)
Hazelee Haller: I see. I was looking at object on newly abandoned land.
Torley Linden: Tinsel: We used to do that, but now, so much land to keep track of, so unfortunately I don't think that's so effective.
Tinsel Silvera: that was my thought as well hazelee
Tinsel Silvera: ah
Laetizia Coronet: heheh cool avi Phil!
Lexa Pro: if it's being paid for, i don't imagine there's much LL can do unless there are serious TOS violations going on.
Phli Foxchase: ^^
Torley Linden: Yeah, before Guy and Nova Linden used to keep track of the Second Life Land Management forum, when the world was much smaller, like, a few hundred, or even low thousands of regions... but now, holy moly.
Chase Marellan: How many regions are there now?
Tinsel Silvera: it would be a full time job for several to do
Torley Linden: Awhile ago we did contact old Lifetime accounts who hadn't been inworld, and asked if they were planning on revisiting Second Life, and if not, if they wanted our help to sell their land...
Lexa Pro: and i don't think ugly porn spam banners are a tos violation.
Lyndsey Forager: sl must take up a huge amout of physical space now?
Chase Marellan: And here's a stupid question: does sim = region?
Torley Linden: We only got like, 1 actual response that followed through I think.
Pavig Lok: is it possible to ask the lindens to return objects when owners "prim out" onto linden public land (like train lines and roadways)?
Tinsel Silvera: i think the web said like 8800 or so now
Laetizia Coronet: Phli, you could do a Lag-o logo on there ;)
Hazelee Haller: a lag-o-logo --- good one.
Torley Linden: Pavig: Linden public land should have autoreturn on, I know in many places it's not... I'd suggest sending a support ticket about stuff like that nowadays, if there's a particular obstruction, e.g., if a big prim is derailing a Linden train.
Angsty Rossini: Speaking of roads, are we EVER going to be able to ride or drive vehicles on them?
Laetizia Coronet: Linden train... there's one that ends ejecting you because the line is discontinued
Tinsel Silvera: i have driven on them - it can be done
Laetizia Coronet: yes! ROads with build on!
Pavig Lok: that's the usual case, the owners (usually adfarmers it seems) link to a master prim on thier own land and shift prims onto neightboing lotts
Tinsel Silvera: yes
Daedalus Young: I have driven on the roads too
Laetizia Coronet: there are rez areas but not too many
Torley Linden: Angsty: If you mean smoother experience (which I would like too) and not falling halfway into the roads, then Havok 4 (physics system upgrade) is supposed to ameliorate that.
Chase Marellan: If you turn build on, you won't be able to drive on it because it'll get clutted up.
Laetizia Coronet: I am going to take that truck and drve it across SL
Torley Linden: Pavig: Parcel encroachment sucks, and yes, doing something like that would be a violation of the Community Standards...
Tinsel Silvera: i just drive until it quits and put the car in invetory and fly the rest of the way
Laetizia Coronet: Chase you can do 5 min autoreturn
Daedalus Young: build on and auto return at 5 minutes
Angsty Rossini: I mean - I've oly been to 1 sim where I was able to ride a moped ON the road
Daedalus Young: surely it won't litter up then
Chase Marellan: true
Angsty Rossini: all the other roads are no-go :(
Lexa Pro would like adjustable weight on physical objects.
Angsty Rossini: 9like - what's the point?)
Torley Linden: Holy crap we have like 12,500 regions including internal ones...
Chase Marellan: wow!
Daedalus Young: you need to find buildable land nearby a road now
Laetizia Coronet: Angsty try the Pontiacx sims, they are great for driving, and the Nissan islads too
Lyndsey Forager: thats huge
Lexa Pro: there's a pet project of mine that's on hold until that happens.
DAODE Loon: ive been to lots of areas to drive on roads
Torley Linden: I was just looking at our stats. Hehe.
Tinsel Silvera: that is a lot of regions
Torley Linden: Yeah, some of these big car companies coming into Second Life...
Torley Linden: Mercedes too...
Pavig Lok: ack my horriblest vehicular tradgedy is always running into one of those eat your vehicle parcels (usually protecting a skybox way over the banline anyways)
Lyndsey Forager: lol, is al a massive wearehouse>?
Torley Linden: Toyota has their Scion City as well...
Lexa Pro: and the roads would be used in it.
Chase Marellan: What's the difference between a sim and a region? Or ar they the same?
Torley Linden: We have big rooms to house our servers, yes.
Lyndsey Forager: lol
Laetizia Coronet: ban lines should stay clear of roads, definitely
Torley Linden: Awhile ago, I asked "How big?" but no picture could be taken -- security reasons.
Lexa Pro: hahahaha, all i think of every time i hear the name scion is that frisky dingo episode.
Angsty Rossini: bleh - don't want a "commercial" experience :) Will have to look harder for driveable roads :)
Lyndsey Forager: ooops - im not after secure info - lol
Laetizia Coronet: Angsty, Pontiac is not very in-your-face, looks like a normal region
Torley Linden: Chase: Good question, they are used interchangeably, but the problem (and what is confusing) is a "sim" is also technically used to refer to the processes running regions (basically a 256x256 m square of land on the Grid map)... so you can have many regions on one sim, so to speak.
Tinsel Silvera: you know torley you could show us and then just erase our memories
Lyndsey Forager: lol
Hazelee Haller: lol
Torley Linden: A lot of people use "sim" somewhat inaccurately but it's not a big deal...
Torley Linden: "sim" short for "simulator"...
Lyndsey Forager: if he told us he would have to kill us
Pavig Lok: roads be tricky to find. i saw a new lindy laying a road other day right thru the corner of four sims ><
Tinsel Silvera: i see sim, region and island all used as the same
Lexa Pro: yeah, motorati's not awful, parkade and fairgrounds are both decent enough places to hang out there.
Tinsel Silvera: it gets confusing when people are talking
Chase Marellan: torley: Interesting, because we have a parcel, and if you look at the "about land" tab, the "Simulator prim usage" is identical to the parcel numbers. So I was wondering if our parcel was esentially the whole sim.
Laetizia Coronet: and they sell great cars, non-Pontiac ones too
Torley Linden: Tinsel: Yeah, we are moving away from "Island" and using "Estate"... at least that's what I understand from Concierge.
Chase Marellan: And if it is, does that mean we can get 50 people in it, regardless of the rest of the region?
Tinsel Silvera: estate sounds better than island
Torley Linden: Chase: How big is that parcel? :)
Chase Marellan: I'm only asking because we're having a charity art show for RFL on the 22nd and I'm worried about filling up.
Torley Linden: Estate sounds kinda classy.
Lyndsey Forager: it does
Chase Marellan: Torley: I think it's about 6000m, but I'll have to look.
Torley Linden: And yes, in About Land > Objects where it says "Simulator primitive usage", that's only referring to the current region the parcel is in.
Laetizia Coronet: Estate sounds cool but what if you run a slum like Philly?
Lyndsey Forager: how many people can a region hold?
Torley Linden: Even Lindens use region/sim interchangeably at times.
Lexa Pro: someone made a philly sim?
Lexa Pro: landmark!
Laetizia Coronet: Lexa, Topgol
Pavig Lok: if yer own it it's an estate, even if it run down :P
McCabe Maxsted: random question, torley: will you be enforcing zoning for the new continent, so as to keep residential and commercial seperate?
Lexa Pro goes to get cheesesteaks
Tinsel Silvera: Myg blogs baout toopgol all the time
Laetizia Coronet: hang on I do have an LM
Chase Marellan: Torley: 6144.
Lexa Pro: w0000
Lexa Pro: love that town.
Torley Linden: A region can hold up to 100 people...
Torley Linden: Or, avatars, specifically.
Torley Linden: But, I think that can be circumvented on the backend (tho it'd be VERY slow).
Laetizia Coronet: there you go Lexa, greeat community too
Chase Marellan: It's up to 100? Cool!
Torley Linden: McCabe: And no, alas, I don't have anything to do with zoning aside from appreciating what people have created...
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: I'd say insofar as zoning, some of the Resident-run estates have done that successfully. The mainland is more organic and chaotic.
Lexa Pro: awesome, laetizia, thanks.
Torley Linden: Most regions on the mainland are set to 40-avatar limit.
Chase Marellan: So I'm just a little confused. That's 100 people for... our parcel? The region? Some other weird geographic shape?
Laetizia Coronet: but Lexa, pack yo piece... its dangerous out there ;)
Torley Linden: The ones that aren't, are usually incorrectly set.
Chase Marellan: Oh, ok.
Tinsel Silvera: i noticed on the current map that more sims have been moved around
Torley Linden: Chase: that's 100 people for a square on the map. :)
Chase Marellan: Got it.
Lexa Pro has slowly been trying to get his mainland sim to become more neighborhood-like.
Torley Linden: That's the easy way to remember it, a region = named square on the map.
Chase Marellan: But they're set to 40?
Chase Marellan: Sorry, it's early here. :)
Torley Linden: So Grasmere, this is a region. And yes, Grasmere is currently set to 40. That's a good balance (currently).
Lexa Pro: it's a very slow process, and will eventually involve me buying up most of it, but i kinda like the mainland.
McCabe Maxsted: that's a complaint i see often "such and such club next door ruined my land" or they can't get into their land because the 40 av limit was reached
Torley Linden: Hehe Lexa. :D
Torley Linden: McCabe: Yup, I certainly resonate with that. :\
Randal Kline: is 100 an estimated number?
Laetizia Coronet: yeah Topgol has an issue with a worthless laggy camping establishment
Torley Linden: It's a tough thing, on one hand, you give people creative freedom, but sometimes, you don't like what ends up next to you and you don't have an easier way to hide it or ignore it if you don't care about it.
Torley Linden: Randal: 100 is an exact integer.
Chase Marellan: So the 100 number doesn't matter on the mainland, it's 40, right?
Laetizia Coronet: lots of scripts, ugliness and lag
Torley Linden: Chase: Right. On the mainland, it's 40.
Lyndsey Forager: the casino bedite my photography shop has closed down - its not a pretty fiels with horses :)
Torley Linden: On Estates, if you own an estate... you can choose to set it higher or lower if you want.
Chase Marellan: Torley: can that be lifted for special events?
Laetizia Coronet: good for you Lyndsey!
Chase Marellan: That's good to know
Torley Linden: Chase: generally, unfortunately not, because then we'd be flooded with requests, and neighbors also tend to complain.
Chase Marellan: Torley: gotcha, thanks.
Torley Linden: You're welcome. :)
Chase Marellan: We'll just have to shunt people over to another property if it gets full, then. Thansk for the clarification!
Torley Linden: Yeah, or -- there's the other approach of, if your parcel is near the corner of a region...
McCabe Maxsted: chase, the electric sheep do a lot of simulcasting
McCabe Maxsted: perhaps you could hold it in two sims at once?
Torley Linden: and you buy adjacent land in another region... some people have "4-corner events" to host more people.
Torley Linden: It's hard to acquire that land and region crossing between them can be jerky, tho.
Laetizia Coronet: like Pooley
Torley Linden: But one example of Lindens doing it is... the stage in Pooley.
Torley Linden: YAH!
Chase Marellan: McCabe -- I don't think it's that big, and we don't have a budget, but tunanks.
Tinsel Silvera: lol
Chase Marellan: thanks, I mena. :)
Lexa Pro: yeah, looking into that, but sim crossing can be rough sometimes, especially when it gets busy.
Chase Marellan: Torley: I heard that, yes. Not an option here.
Laetizia Coronet: i see someone being stuck in the 4 corners at Pooley a lot
Tinsel Silvera: the galaxy ship that covers three sims does not cross easy from one to the next
Torley Linden: A long time ago, we used to have Stage 4 that did this too, near Ahern-Morris in the "classic" Welcome Area, which Lime now more closely resembles.
Lexa Pro: i'm finally right up to the border in innamincka with heck.
Chase Marellan: And actually, we'd love to have to worry about having too many people at a charity event. :)
Lyndsey Forager: or the ahern welcome area
McCabe Maxsted: hehe :)
Torley Linden: Laetizia: Yeah at Town Halls and such it can get pretty lagged out, 120 avatars...
Tinsel Silvera: it was laggy at the birthday bash but worth it
Torley Linden: However, as computer tech advances, we'll be able to scale things up. it's like those early fighting games where you could just put 2 people on the screen, and now you can have masses, swarms of things flying at you...
Rock Pond Pose ball: llStopAnimation: Script trying to stop animations but agent not found
Laetizia Coronet: missed all that
Lexa Pro: the picture i took at the last town hall was great, you couldn't see the next sim and 40% of the avs were greyed out.
McCabe Maxsted: i uset ctrl-alt-shift-4 a lot to disable avs; a tip for laggy areas
Laetizia Coronet: disable avs?
McCabe Maxsted: yup
McCabe Maxsted: so they're not rendered
Chase Marellan: What does that mean?
Chase Marellan: Oh
Hazelee Haller: you can do that to someone
Lexa Pro: ha, we're all gone!
Torley Linden: Yeah, SL4B is a great example of that -- it was very laggy last year too, but the spirit of being connected and excited holds us together. Even with technical probs, if you have good friends here, things feel easier.
Laetizia Coronet: so you are one of those people pushing everyone around then? ;)
Torley Linden: McCabe: Great tip, I use that too.
Tinsel Silvera: i will use it in the future - thanks.
Torley Linden: In short, yes, hiding objects results in less geometry (math) for your computer to crunch... and it'll go faster.
Torley Linden: If you check Fast Timers, aka Ctrl-Shift-9...
Torley Linden: Then you can see how it changes before/after.
Laetizia Coronet: but it makes for a lonely experience...
Hazelee Haller: I'll check that out
Hazelee Haller: :)
Torley Linden: Laetizia: Yeah, that is the whole point of avatars, having a visible presence inworld, not being disembodied...
Laetizia Coronet: right
Lyndsey Forager: the world beore the days of colour
Torley Linden: And if Fast Timers looks like a confusing Star Trek experience to you, then I wrote some help up too -- http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Debug_Help
McCabe Maxsted: hehehe
Laetizia Coronet: now I finally know what it is - I used to have to relog to make those graphs disappear
Laetizia Coronet: it would help to make a little 'close' tip for those screens
Torley Linden: YES IT TOTALLY WOULD. Oh gosh...
Tinsel Silvera: yes
Torley Linden: And another thing, that's a bug...
Torley Linden: You shouldn't even be able to enable those if Client menu is not visible.
Torley Linden: We have new Resis sometimes touching many keys on the keyboard...
McCabe Maxsted: there's always one thing that lags the most, and i'm trying to remember the component
Laetizia Coronet: Client menu?
Torley Linden: And they bring up those bars, and they get scared.
Torley Linden: Laetizia, yeah.
McCabe Maxsted: renderpool
McCabe Maxsted: that's it
Laetizia Coronet: yes I have phat phingers like that lol
Daedalus Young: yes, and my cat once claimed ownership of a parcel that way
Tinsel Silvera: lol
Hazelee Haller: lol
Lyndsey Forager: omg
Laetizia Coronet: lol Dae
Torley Linden: McCabe: That sounds generally normal, but if RenderPool suddenly takes 1,000 ms or something, that is excessive and disproportionate.
Chase Marellan: As long as your cat pays the teir
Lexa Pro: whoa!
Laetizia Coronet: must be a furry parcel then
Torley Linden: As long as the bars are scrolling along at a reasonably rapid rate, you're fine. Each bar = frame per second.
Lyndsey Forager: lol, so funny
Lexa Pro: soundexchange are backing off on the webcasting deadline!
McCabe Maxsted: ah okay, i was wondering what i should expect from it
Torley Linden: Yup, the key thing is *feel*... if things feel smooth, then you're fine.
Tinsel Silvera: ah
Torley Linden: But if things are slow and there is an obvious discrepancy in Fast Timers, then you very likely have a problem.
Lexa Pro: your letters and calls to congress, and suspicious packages outside their offices have made a difference! =)
Torley Linden: LOL Lexa.
Tinsel Silvera: lol
McCabe Maxsted: hehe
Wolfie Rankin: Hi all
Tinsel Silvera: hello
Torley Linden: Hiya Wolfie!
Wolfie Rankin: still rezzing
Hazelee Haller: Hi Wolfie
Lyndsey Forager: lol, last night i was cursing sl - i downloaded a new verion of the client and came out an hour later - then when i logged back in i havd to download ANOTHER verion - lol
McCabe Maxsted: ahoy there!
Wolfie Rankin: I'm in bed with the laptop and electric blanket
Lexa Pro: so i guess we've preserved our ability to hear buckcherry's "crazy bitch" in every. single. club. we set foot in. =)
Torley Linden: Ahhh nice to see you. Alas, I am sad to say that I must go for now, this being the end of my morning (my time) office hour, but I will be back here at 2 PM PDT for another. I'd like to thank all of you for coming and chatting it up with me!
Laetizia Coronet: lol Wolfie TMI!
Lexa Pro: sorry, big moment, didn't mean to burst in with that. =)
Tinsel Silvera: thanks for the visit torley
Torley Linden: Haha, it's so cool how connected we can be... wi-fi still trips me out!
McCabe Maxsted: aw okay; time flew torley, thanks for your time!
Daedalus Young: thanks Torley
Torley Linden: Thank YOU for the visitation!!
Hazelee Haller: Thank you, Torley. I always learn when I am here.
Laetizia Coronet: thanks for your time Torley
Lexa Pro: take 'er easy, torley.
Randal Kline: B-bye!!! :D
Lyndsey Forager: have a nice morning torley!
Torley Linden: You're most graciously welcome. =D Take care each and all of ya! *waves and smiles*

2 PM

Torley Linden: HELLO :D
Squirrel Wood: I spy a Torley ^^
Daedalus Young: hi Torley
Torley Linden: Everything's rezzing in now... eeee.
Trinity Dejavu: hiya Torley :)
Benja Kepler: heya Torley
Torley Linden: Indeed you do! Ooh who's here already... hi Squirrel, Harleen, Daedalus, Trinity, Benja. :D
Al Sonic is stuck!
Harleen Gretzky: Hi Torley :)
Torley Linden: Oh my Al!
Torley Linden: I don't see you yet...
Torley Linden: How is everyone today? What's new and exciting?
Al Sonic: <_< not good.
Squirrel Wood: latest voice client... only worked once for me... halfway. could see the beacons and waves as others were talking but could not hear a thing despite voice being enabled. ever since that, whenever I start it I never see the beacons anymore. and I don't hear a thing.
Torley Linden: Al I'm glad you got free!
Harleen Gretzky: great!
Torley Linden: Squirrel: Aw rats, (127)? And you tried to disable and reenable voice and that still didn't work?
Al Sonic: Hehe,of course, thanks ^_^
Benja Kepler: latest FL client - participants list is great!
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... Bridie Linden, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Squirrel Wood: Aye.
Trinity Dejavu: im on linux, so no voice for me
Torley Linden: Heya Bridie!
Benja Kepler: very useful for discussions
Torley Linden: Yeah we took a lot of feedback for the Participants list...
Squirrel Wood: though I like the changes made to the communicate window ^^
Torley Linden: and the Communicate window in general, yes.
Torley Linden: Definitely an ongoing thing. Part of why it's such a shocker is, heck, it's been so long since the IM window has ever had any major changes...
Torley Linden: Understandably hard to get used to some of it, and the space-hoggin' ain't kewl either, but it's still being worked on with each new build (and they're coming out pretty quickly)...
Squirrel Wood: one thing... the history window when separated from communicate still has a chat bar in it that is kind of.. obsolete as you have the chat bar at the bottom of the screen ...
Bridie Linden: sorry al...
Harleen Gretzky: Hi Bridie
Torley Linden: Squirrel: Ah, two chat bars? Hmmm good point, I suppose that should be reported as an issue unto it's own.
Trinity Dejavu: !hiya Bridie
Torley Linden: If it hasn't been, already.
Bridie Linden: Howdy all - apologies for coming in a little late
Torley Linden: No worries Bridie, good to see ya.
Benja Kepler: hiya bridie
Torley Linden: Hey Latok and Kayo, I see ya over there. :)
Kayo Houston: hello!
Latok Neumann: hey all : )
Bridie Linden: what's going on? whatcha talking about today?
Daedalus Young: hi
Torley Linden: Bridie, so far, Voice and the Communicate window.
Bridie Linden nods
Squirrel Wood: yups. positive changes mostly ^^
Torley Linden: I just think of a further, distant future... when we may have new methods of communicating altogether...
Torley Linden: and then we'll look back at what exists today.
Torley Linden: Funny how perspective does that.
Torley Linden: Heya Wyn, droppin' in! (That rhymes.)
Daedalus Young: yes, it's like that "Internet" video on YouTube
Kayo Houston: Sorry to interrupt - just to say I love your place, Torley
Torley Linden: Hahah Daedalus, I found some others, I found a World Wide Web one.
Torley Linden: No worries Kayo, and thank you!
Wyn Galbraith whees
Kayo Houston: bye.
Torley Linden: Lemme see where that is...
Torley Linden: you can stay if you want Kayo! But t'care.
Torley Linden: A glimpse of the "future" World Wide Web, as seen in 1994 -- http://youtube.com/watch?v=-1l6aBgX5UY
Squirrel Wood gave you Portrait_SW.
Daedalus Young: "The Internet" is here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1n4fDgmrF3o
Torley Linden: Haha.
Daedalus Young: for those who hadn't seen it
starcomber Vig: aloha all
Torley Linden waits for Squirrel's texture to rez... all 1024x512 of it
Torley Linden: Aloha starcomber!
Bridie Linden: thx for video
starcomber Vig: how goes it?
Benja Kepler has turned off all rendering
Torley Linden: Squirrel, this looks like... lattice work... or a carpet... mosaic tiles?
Wyn Galbraith hears voices.
Torley Linden: Oh and just so everyone knows I'm keeping transcripts of my Office Hours @ https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden now in case you ever miss a week or want to catch up.
Wyn Galbraith: Oh
Torley Linden: Haha starcomber, that's some groovy dance.
Wyn Galbraith: It's the youtube
starcomber Vig: lol
Torley Linden: Goes well with the headphones and shades.
Wyn Galbraith: Scared me.
starcomber Vig: they're havin fun at Shelter
Daedalus Young: Torley, we talked about Client>Rendering>Types>Character this morning
Torley Linden: What are they up to at the Shelter?
Torley Linden: Yup Daedalus.
Daedalus Young: but it appears weird to me
Bridie Linden: get down starcomber!
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Daedalus Young: I don't know if it's me
Daedalus Young: when I disable it, half your build disappears
starcomber Vig: the Millionaire game and some Weaseal playlist
Daedalus Young: and of course all avatars, but also their chairs
Squirrel Wood: mosaic tiles. yep.
Daedalus Young: and some chairs re-appear after a second or so
Torley Linden: Hmmm that's interesting.
Torley Linden: I see that chairs re-appearing effect too.
Daedalus Young: I couldn't find it on JIRA yet
Daedalus Young: but I'll do a video repro if needed
Torley Linden: Hmmm I wonder if it counts objects avatars are sitting on too?
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... Amphithetre Andalso, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... Amphithetre Andalso, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Torley Linden: I think I am seeing the same effect as you, Daedalus...
Squirrel Wood: avatars sitting on something are part of the linkset
Squirrel Wood: so it just may
Torley Linden: No one here is sitting on the bulk of my office tho eh?
Daedalus Young: the chairs do re-appear, but most of the office doesn't
Amphithetre Andalso: /ao off
Torley Linden: Yeah, I don't see anyone who's sitting on my office itself... like the main structure, which is one big linkset.
Amphithetre Andalso waves hello
Torley Linden: Hi Amphithetre!
Daedalus Young: well I'll have a good search on JIRA later today and will add it
Squirrel Wood: Oooo! Torley! Has anybody at LL thought about adding ambient sounds for parcels like... that program Soundborb does create?
Al Sonic had a fun look at that past view of the internet.
Torley Linden: I know in previous times we had some bugs with some of those debug settings, so it's not the first time. (Ironically perhaps.)
Torley Linden: Daedalus, thankya!
Torley Linden: Squirrel: OH YES we had this big involved discussion about it...
Daedalus Young: you're very welcome
Torley Linden: it stemmed out of a discussion to "Kill the wind sound".
Torley Linden: Thanks again for bringing up Sound Borb...
Squirrel Wood: ^^
Squirrel Wood: Have a look at Soundborb then ^^
Torley Linden: so ideas for implementation came up, we hired a couple new devs with audio development backgrounds too I think...
Torley Linden: I liked Sound Borb...
Harleen Gretzky: You used to be able to see everyones prims also when you turned that off, was nice for getting at tehose prims inside your avatar
Torley Linden: Simple to use.
Daedalus Young: that's cool
Torley Linden: http://www.soundborb.com/
Torley Linden: I like shifting, evolving ambience a lot.
Amphithetre Andalso: incoming dragon, heads up >_>
Torley Linden: I'm not a big fan of 10-sec. loops that repeat ad nauseum, but slow and gradual changes are really neat... and natural-sounding.
Amphithetre Andalso: or not, lol
Amphithetre Andalso: Arkh, you've..changed
Squirrel Wood: humm. should allow sounds longer than 10 seconds but non looping only? ^^
Daedalus Young: I'm about to investigate ways of creating longer soundloops, and layered effects
Torley Linden: Daedalus re: the build disappearing when you hide characters being rendered, I'm curious to see what happens here when everyone is gone... I don't see anyone sitting on the main office but that in itself might lead to another bug.
Trinity Dejavu: with the demand on bandwidth from prims and textures, sounds are often left to last, so are usually missed
Torley Linden: Squirrel: The prob that often comes up with that is concerns of importing full-length radio songs or beyond, and the legal baggage that comes with that sort of music distribution.
Torley Linden: And as well, sounds currently don't download the most seamlessly...
Daedalus Young: ah yes, I don't see anything in the background disappear
Torley Linden: They tend to stutter a bit too.
Torley Linden: That is why, in a weird hack, you may've seen those historical "record player" objects.
Squirrel Wood: full length radio songs you can already buy. chopped up into ten second pieces and with a playback script
Torley Linden: They chain 10-sec. sound clips to play whole songs.
Torley Linden: Yes, like what Squirrel said, so it's just a deterrent, but it does make it harder.
Torley Linden: And uglier.
starcomber Vig: that's a whole messy story 9to chop up an mp3 in 10 secs)
Torley Linden: Hey Sword! :D That Kirby av sure came in handy for Pastrami Linden. =)
Daedalus Young: plus it's mono
Torley Linden: Hey Grizzy!
Squirrel Wood: even gestures may feature full length chopped up songs
Grizzy Griswold: hi
Torley Linden: Yeah, with the sound being spatialized and all... the quality isn't very good...
Daedalus Young: I don't think you can get Yellow Submarine in stereo too well
starcomber Vig: we can still broadcast our hosted mp4s from our external hosts but tieed to land :)
Torley Linden: I remember when I was new to SL, and someone broke out into... this KILL BILL dance... with the song too -- "Battle WIthout Honor or Humanity".
starcomber Vig: is that correct?
Amphithetre Andalso: whoops
Torley Linden: A lot of those early Beatles mixes use neat stereo tricks, or drums on the left channel and the rest on the right, or something like that.
Daedalus Young: I've been listening very closely to the Beatles lately
Torley Linden: starcomber: Yes, parcel URLs can be hosted anywhere as long as they're in a compatible format...
Daedalus Young: found a site that lists a lot of anomalies in their songs
Daedalus Young: talking in the background and so
Torley Linden: Daedalus, oh yeah? Like the various splicing in some of their cuts?
Daedalus Young: that too
Wyn Galbraith had a question about that crystal picture in the overlord blog. Was that taken in SL?
Torley Linden: Haa, yeah, some of that stuff may be interpreted as "subliminal".
Torley Linden: Wyn: Yes it was. Totally taken in Second Life.
Torley Linden: WindLight viewer.
Wyn Galbraith: OMG
Daedalus Young: it's listed at http://www.pootle.demon.co.uk/wgo.htm
Wyn Galbraith wants it.
Torley Linden: No post-processing whatsoever.
starcomber Vig: Windlight is going to be awsome
Squirrel's Fortune Cookie: Here's some wisdom for you:
Squirrel's Fortune Cookie: Your fortune stateth: Your step will soil many countries.
Torley Linden: Wyn: We'll hopefully get a public First Look re-release of that soon, Bridie and I have been working on it. =o)
Wyn Galbraith was going to blog about it and just wanted to get the facts right.
Bridie Linden: :)
Torley Linden: That picture Wyn is referring to and more can be found here -- http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=sapphire&w=70285332%40N00&s=rec
Amphithetre Andalso: windlight's already awesome
Trinity Dejavu: are the default light settings going to be closer to te current lighting model?
Torley Linden: I'm using WindLight as much as I can to ferret out the bugs...
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: Trinity: It'll be different but it should be an improvement overall.
Wyn Galbraith: May I use that as wall paper?
Torley Linden: Sure can Wyn! :D
Wyn Galbraith: It made my heart ache.
Trinity Dejavu: im thinking with retailers in mind
Torley Linden: Thanks for asking, I was inspired that day going and seeing the crystals in Sapphire Central.
Torley Linden: I was like, "This is a sci-fi movie..."
Squirrel Wood: Windlight will make sure colors won't look the same for any given two players ^^
Torley Linden: That's not a real moon, BTW... that's a faux sun-disguised-as-moon but we hope to re-add the moon.
Wyn Galbraith: That's what I'm saying...
Torley Linden: Hehe, well color is variable depending on your monitors to begin with -- WindLight has a lot more dynamic range, tho.
Wyn Galbraith: This was scifi when I was 12.
Torley Linden: People (myself included) are so used to the old "flat" way...
Trinity Dejavu: yes, was a big change when local lights ca,e out
Squirrel Wood: HDR in SL would be awesome ^^
Torley Linden: So seeing things pop out and better lights and shadows is kinda unreal... we don't have per-object shadowing yet but we do have reflective ripple water.
Wyn Galbraith: Windows wasn't even a gleam in Bill's eyes.
Daedalus Young: when I was 12, we had a 512 MB harddrive :/
Bridie Linden: Great pics, Torley
Torley Linden: Yeah, HDR -- big lens flare craze.
Torley Linden: Thanx Bridie.
Torley Linden: Haha Wyn. Lil' Bill!
starcomber Vig: I think thats inportant to give a few, not many, definite basic configs, the big "contras" Windlight is about how textures rendering is going to be affected
Grizzy Griswold: wow, my virus software was intefering with sl.
Torley Linden: starcomber: Yeah -- and so, if you want to keep your textures rendered "neutral", use Full Bright...
Squirrel Wood gave you Bear Inside.
Daedalus Young: it found a scripted SL virus?
Torley Linden: Full Bright negates the effect of WindLight.
Wyn Galbraith gets overwhelmed at advances sometimes.
Trinity Dejavu: the problem comes for retailers - you have to tell everyone to set there lights siuch a way when entering your parcel
Grizzy Griswold: no it was updating itself and for some reason I couldn't walk very well when it was doing that.
Torley Linden: Trinity: Actually things will come in phases -- so the first phase is pretty much replacement for current functionality...
Trinity Dejavu: and also full bright is about thw worst of the current lighting
Daedalus Young: ah ok
starcomber Vig: Full Bright has an historically notorious effect with light
starcomber Vig: we checked this at the time of First-Look near release
Torley Linden: and then comes the phase of letting Estate Owners choose their own sky settings -- perhaps accompanied (around the same time) of trading sky settings like we exchange inventory.
starcomber Vig: and that unfort has not been fixed
Amphithetre Andalso: that would be dreamy
Torley Linden: More pictures @ http://torley.com/better-second-living-through-windlight-glow-sculpties
Trinity Dejavu: will mainlan parcel owners have any control?
Amphithetre Andalso: *purrs*
Daedalus Young: and hopefully their own SounBorb settings ;)
Sword Rotaru: for some reason my game is constantly staying really laggy
Amphithetre Andalso: Mine too :/
Torley Linden: Trinity: Not any more than they currently do, but what *might* be different, and this is still open-ended... is once sky settings become tradeable like inventory...
Torley Linden: You could, much like today we have notecard givers...
Trinity Dejavu is at a wholesome 3fps and very laggy
Torley Linden: Have sky givers, and tell people to load that when they come to your parcel.
Sword Rotaru: I can barley move lol
Squirrel Wood: soundborb like settings could also be tradeable ^^
Squirrel Wood: for ambiences
Torley Linden: Sucks to hear about your framerates. :|
Amphithetre Andalso: I'm down to minimal detail and my computer's getting down on its knees
Squirrel Wood: 30 fps...
starcomber Vig: has anybody noticed a huge demand in bandwidth?
Daedalus Young: 5 fps :P
Squirrel Wood: full details ^^
starcomber Vig: a hige increase
Amphithetre Andalso has noticed
Sword Rotaru: I dont know whats up
Torley Linden: There's also a post-process set of effects... like Nightvision (Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid, etc.) which we'd like to eventually make scriptable... so you can wear nightvision goggles and turn them on and off...
Amphithetre Andalso: :O
Amphithetre Andalso: pony list, though
Torley Linden: That is still further off though so, it's tentative.
Torley Linden: Bridie and I have been so excited about it, working with our devs...
Daedalus Young: that'd be cool in sculptures
Trinity Dejavu: needs to be some way to un link the frame rate and genral sl performance
Torley Linden: Yes, exactly Dae...
Torley Linden: Trinity: How do you mean?
Al Sonic: http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/800277374/in/photostream/ - Yeah, it's about time we see the sun reflected in our objects.
Daedalus Young: I can imagine Sabine Stonebender's new builds already :D
Squirrel Wood: humm... set a desired framerate and have the client auto-adjust detail levels, view distance to maintain the desired framerate ?
Torley Linden: Hehe yes Al.
Trinity Dejavu: well, im on a decent computer, my gfdx card doesnt break a sweat with SL - im now at 2 fps
Torley Linden: Sculpties and other relatively complex geometry (avatars esp.) really benefit from added atmospheric detail.
Torley Linden: Trinity: Ah, what is your CPU?
Amphithetre Andalso: Yeah, I'm @ 11
Torley Linden: And graphics card?
Trinity Dejavu: amd64, nvidia 6600gt
Amphithetre Andalso: my pc can handle oblivion at near max detail fine :/
Trinity Dejavu: 1gb ram
Trinity Dejavu: linux
Torley Linden: I'm at around 10 FPS right now too... Second Life is highly, highly CPU-dependent. Most games will focus on the graphics card but we're more like a rendering/modelling program in some regards.
Amphithetre Andalso nods
Squirrel Wood: core 2 duo @ 3GHz, nvidia 7950 GT here
Arkhanis Starostin hums 25fps quietly
Amphithetre Andalso thinks a moment...pentium 4, I think
Daedalus Young: especially avatars need a lot of power
Torley Linden: Oh that's really nice Arkhanis, what's yer setup?
Squirrel Wood: and 30+ fps
Arkhanis Starostin: XP4000+ @ 3.4ghz, 7800GTX, 2GB geil
starcomber Vig: core 2 duo ATI 128MB, smooth 18 fps
Torley Linden: Yes -- that's the double-edged sword of SL. Creative freedom, but that also means... no pre-optimization, no special "tricks" that are planned ahead of time... things need to be delivered spontaneously and quickly.
Trinity Dejavu: i can turn all the details settings to full whack and it makes no difference to my frame rate
Arkhanis Starostin: I'm pretty proud to run a full ghz overlock on air cooling
Squirrel Wood: and 4gb ram here... SL really needs a lot of ram. (especially the voice client which seems to suck up memory like mad)
Amphithetre Andalso: Bah. I think I need more memory 512 just isn't enough
Arkhanis Starostin: But it's noisy X3
Torley Linden: Some graphics settings are GPU-accelerated, like WindLight, and ripple water, and local lighting.
Torley Linden: Yes, SL does need a lot of RAM...
Al Sonic: Heh, well you have a point about the avatars there. Ctrl-Shift-R still leaves avatars looking pretty opaque.
Torley Linden: I wouldn't be happy with less than 2 GB and even currently I am wanting more RAM.
Torley Linden: And wireframe doesn't really quicken rendering time either, it looks cool tho.
Torley Linden: And yeah avatars are dense... hehe
Torley Linden: Otherwise we'd look like big blocks.
starcomber Vig: well in most cases consider a browser and mail open all the time, not to talk Photoshop
Daedalus Young: wireframe even seems to render slower
starcomber Vig: we're around 2 on a good garbage collecting OS like OSX
Al Sonic: Wireframe kills occulsion culling and such, so yeah, it's no better.
Torley Linden: Daedalus: I feel the same way but haven't conclusively established that.
starcomber Vig: 2GB
Squirrel Wood: wireframe slows me down to 4 fps
Torley Linden: Al: Ahh yeah, it kills occlusion? OK that makes sense. :\
Torley Linden: I remember when Runitai added occlusion culling.
Torley Linden: Kinda funny because in the old days of SL...
Torley Linden: there used to be rumors...
Torley Linden: that "PUT A BIG WALL UP! IT'LL BLOCK LAG!"
Daedalus Young: wireframe drops from 5 to 3 fps now
Trinity Dejavu: *giggles*
Torley Linden: Now, that is somewhat true because of occlusion culling, provided there's enough distance and the wall is opaque (not see-through at all).
Amphithetre Andalso dosen't get how more prims = less lag
Al Sonic: Hehee. They eventually got to it.
Benja Kepler: I wondered if an 'indoor setting' button mught help - for clubs and the like
Wyn Galbraith is on a dual core 2 tablet PC with Intel graphics. 2G RAM.
Benja Kepler: *might
Squirrel Wood: anything behind that wall doesn't need to be rendered so saves time
Amphithetre Andalso: mm, tablet
Amphithetre Andalso: *purrs*
Al Sonic: More prims? *shrug* Well it's more loading time for sure.
Squirrel Wood: and increases framerate
Wyn Galbraith limps along.
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... Saijanai Kuhn, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... Saijanai Kuhn, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Trinity Dejavu: I would like to see better prioritising of items based of proximity
starcomber Vig: is an optimized prioritization that will save in indoor situation
Torley Linden: Occlusion culling, in some ways, is like dynamically adjusting draw distance...
Torley Linden: if you'd like to talk the tech behind that I'd ask Runitai.
Squirrel Wood: procedural textures I'd like to see in SL.... formulas, even text on textures would be possible ^^
Daedalus Young: that would be cool
Torley Linden: I'm a big fan of procedural textures, I know some of our graphics-inclined devs were musing about that...
Squirrel Wood: Have them look at some demos of the group Farbrausch ^^
Arkhanis Starostin: Ah, occlusion rendering. My mmo/fps of choice could use some of that ._.
Torley Linden: Filter Forge is great for procedural textures, I've used some others too... what are your fave procedural texture tools?
Squirrel Wood: http://www.farb-rausch.de
Trinity Dejavu: i used to do a lot of raytracing, proc textures woul dbe nice but they would put sl on its knees
Daedalus Young: I always use Blender's
Squirrel Wood: they have a mighty engine that does amazingly good looking procedural textures
Torley Linden: Ooh I didn't know Blender had one.
Squirrel Wood: they need to be limited, true. like, one per each object.
Torley Linden: Farbrausch rulez! I like a lot of their very compact demos...
Torley Linden: I like the demoscene stuff, I used to be involved with Amiga MOD music.
Squirrel Wood: ^^
starcomber Vig: MOD was the system audio format there right?
Daedalus Young: procedural textures in Blender are used as a hack to create sculptmaps
starcomber Vig: but still was not MIDi...?
Squirrel Wood: fr-08 and fr-025 are good examples
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... Prospero Frobozz, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Welcome Mat: Hello and YAYZERAMA... Prospero Frobozz, welcome to Watermelinden Land in the Linden Village!
Torley Linden: One of them, yes... MOD is sort of a combo in that, actual samples are used with playback pattern data.
starcomber Vig: gotcha
Torley Linden: The advantage of MOD is that instrument sounds are encapsulated within the playback file, so it'll sound roughly the same to anyone who has a half-decent player...
Torley Linden: unlike MIDI whose quality depends on the playback sample set.
Torley Linden: I like a lot of the quality 8-bit sounds...
starcomber Vig: :)
Torley Linden: Have you guys seen recreations of classic games? Like Plasma Pong? Or Tsunami 2010?
Squirrel Wood: Ooo! Farbrausch added a little software synthesizer to their downloads ^^
Amphithetre Andalso thinks
Torley Linden: Oh cool Squirrel, I dig toys like that.
Torley Linden: http://ainc.de/Games.htm
Amphithetre Andalso: There're some arcades around
Daedalus Young: you can find a lot of remakes at http://www.retroremakes.com/wordpress/
Torley Linden: http://www.plasmapong.com/ <-- colorful madness!
Al Sonic: I only recently discovered how much I like a certain free music composer called Pixeltone.
Torley Linden: Oh sweet, I gotta check that out.
Torley Linden: I haven't heard about Pixeltone before, what do you like about it?
Torley Linden: *looks at retro remakes*
Squirrel Wood: farbrausch once had a video up of rendering a 3d scene in real time on a mobile phone
Torley Linden: Oooh. They do all sorts of experimental stuff eh? Or things that just haven't been explored so much before.
Al Sonic: Hm... very smooth interface... the full ability to make all your own sounds...
Squirrel Wood: I'll see if I can find that video
Torley Linden: It's kinda funny because... cell phones have the processing power (and screen resolution) of earlier computers.
Amphithetre Andalso: I know :O
Torley Linden: Kinda funny that way, so now we end up with demoscene people getting very active in developing for cell phones.
Bridie Linden has iPhone on her desk today
Bridie Linden: (not mine though)
Torley Linden: Wow Bridie really? You gots an iPhone?
Daedalus Young: cool, Bridie!
Torley Linden: Oh!
Wyn Galbraith feels the gamer insider her screaming to get out, "Old games..."
Torley Linden: I've never touched a real iPhone... they look nice.
Arkhanis Starostin: Mention not the iPhone
Grizzy Griswold: I want an iPhone
Bridie Linden: it is purty!
Torley Linden: Hehehe... I'm a big fan of a lot of classic games.
Arkhanis Starostin: For they are years dated already
Trinity Dejavu too
Grizzy Griswold: Mario
Wyn Galbraith doesn't really want one, "I want something more like the blackberry but not.
Grizzy Griswold: and Castlevania
Prospero Frobozz: Jumpman, on the C64. ONe of my favorite games ever.
Torley Linden: Steve Jobs sure knows how to run a presentation.
Bridie Linden has a Merlin
Trinity Dejavu: C64
starcomber Vig: Mine is recharging...
Daedalus Young: a few years ago, there were plans to use the Z80 processor in phones
Torley Linden: Castlevania -- what a saga, did you hear they're making a movie about that?
Amphithetre Andalso: No? >_>
Wyn Galbraith's pda is a Palm IV
Torley Linden: I've long liked looking for ornate castles in Second Life.
Amphithetre Andalso feels...skeptical
Daedalus Young: that would mean you could take hundreds of old games and play them directly on it
Grizzy Griswold: video game movies suck though Torley.
Squirrel Wood: http://www.theprodukkt.com/mobile
Torley Linden: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castlevania_%28film%29 , you will prolly cry, but... :\
Arkhanis Starostin sits in Europe with his Nokia smartphones and lol's at Apple :D
starcomber Vig: you pointed at an amzing castle some months ago
Torley Linden: I think the only video game movie I really enjoyed was Mortal Kombat, or maybe The Wizard for its naiveity.
Prospero Frobozz: Have there been any halfway decent video game movies?
Torley Linden: Haha Arkhanis.
Wyn Galbraith: You're trying to get me hooked on games again, aren't you.
Trinity Dejavu: i cant think on one
Torley Linden: HOOKED ON GAMES! :D
Grizzy Griswold: I liked the Silent Hill movie
Arkhanis Starostin: Sorry. Can't help it
Amphithetre Andalso: !
Torley Linden: It'd be fun to have Flash inworld...
Amphithetre Andalso: Yes!
Al Sonic: Actually the whole pixeltone thing is in japanese (which says a lot for how easy it is to understand!), and it's best to google "pxtone" for it instead.
Amphithetre Andalso: Silent hill movie :D
Torley Linden: then we can have more liquid interfaces, some of these Flash sites BLOW ME AWAY.
Torley Linden: I heard the Silent Hill one was good.
Daedalus Young: oh, for the Retro Remakes, you could best look at the page http://www.retroremakes.com/forum2/photoplog/index.php
Torley Linden: And that it was pretty respectful to the game.
Amphithetre Andalso: The director begged Konami several times to do it
Torley Linden: I thought Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within blew chunks.
starcomber Vig: Flash games... letseee... gettheglass.com
Arkhanis Starostin: "iphone iphone iphone" .... "Year out of date, year out of date, year out of date". .. >_> *hushes now*
Torley Linden: And why? Because Nobuo Uematsu didn't do the music. BAD MISTAKE.
Trinity Dejavu: *giggles* large ones too
Wyn Galbraith cries.
Amphithetre Andalso: When he sent them a video, they finally ok'ed
starcomber Vig: amazing concept
Grizzy Griswold: I saw where they are making a Get Smart movie.
Torley Linden: *looks so more*
Torley Linden: Yeah, I saw Get Smart's new trailer...
Torley Linden: I'm a big Don Adams fan, Inspector Gadget and all.
Grizzy Griswold: Steve Carell is going to play the Don Adams part
Wyn Galbraith could be a game junkie. "I haven't really played in the two years I was working on my AA."
Torley Linden: What else has Steve Carell been in?
Grizzy Griswold: Evan Almight, the office, 40 year old virgin
Torley Linden: Ahh I haven't seen any of those.
Amphithetre Andalso: used to be on the daily show
starcomber Vig: the Military is using texas ranger for their "drive safe" campaign
Bridie Linden: http://www.retrojunk.com/img/art-images/merlin1.jpg
Torley Linden: Texas Ranger... uh... Chuck Norris?
starcomber Vig: yes
Torley Linden: I wish I could double-click URLs in chat overlay without having to open chat history.
starcomber Vig: its...well.. creepy?
Trinity Dejavu: these links should open in the built in browser
Amphithetre Andalso: that'd be nice
Wyn Galbraith wishes it wouldn't open a new browser every time.
Prospero Frobozz: Min doesn't open a new browser every time....
Torley Linden: Yeah I use Firefox with tabs... I often have lots of tabs open...
Prospero Frobozz: It uses whatever's there.
Grizzy Griswold: IE7 has taps too
Torley Linden: Bridie what the heck is that Merlin thing!?
Trinity Dejavu: same here, perhaps if we would r.click on links
Torley Linden: I have used IE7 some...
starcomber Vig: the debate about the internal browser... this is a bit weird really
Squirrel Wood: http://www.theprodukkt.com/mobile <= see the mobile demo video there ^^
Al Sonic: Yep, I know that whole tabs-piling-up experience.
Bridie Linden: that's one of the toys i had growing up
Wyn Galbraith: Does SL open in firefox? I use firefox, but SL opens IE, I haven't found a place to change the default browser.
Torley Linden: Oh cool Squirrel, thanks for finding it.
Amphithetre Andalso: What made me sad is there is an Evangelion movie being made
Torley Linden: Bridie: Oooh. What does it do? Is it kinda like one of those Simon games?
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: I found SL opens in Firefox for me.
Bridie Linden: merlin==blinky lights game vs say, ds lite....i feel 100 yrs old
Harleen Gretzky: Opens whatever your default browser is
Torley Linden: Ahhhh. Hahahaha!
starcomber Vig: safari does not (slurls)
Prospero Frobozz: Merlin! Yes, I vaguely remember that.
starcomber Vig: but thats not LL
Torley Linden: Firefox's Options > Main > System Defaults, it's the "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup"...
Al Sonic: Firefox really should notify you of whether it's the default browser.
Torley Linden: Evangelion movie? Are they going to do that poorly?
Al Sonic: If not, it's in Firefox's preferences.
Saijanai Kuhn: yep
Amphithetre Andalso: Probably :/
Amphithetre Andalso: James Cameron, allegedly
Torley Linden: Oh I heard that rumor earlier.
Squirrel Wood: Ooo... Torley.. http://www.theprodukkt.com/werkkzeug_3_te
Wyn Galbraith: My default is firefox
starcomber Vig: aha that was how I called my first firewire drive... Evangelion
Prospero Frobozz: James "Terminator" Cameron, or James "Titanic" Cameron?
Torley Linden: Oooh intriguin Squirrel, I wonder how new that is?
Amphithetre Andalso: Neither, I hope
Al Sonic: Tools-Options - System Defaults-> Check Now!
Arkhanis Starostin: Neither? D: Butbutbut.. Terminator!
Wyn Galbraith: Aye Aye SIR!
Torley Linden: James "Piranha 2" Cameron?
Amphithetre Andalso: yes, but eva =/= terminator
Arkhanis Starostin: ohyah
Bridie Linden: lol
Torley Linden: Some of these really deep things can't unfold in 2 hours...
Amphithetre Andalso: I know
Amphithetre Andalso: And they're gonna try and make it
Amphithetre Andalso: gr
Torley Linden: That's the prob today with instant gratification.
Prospero Frobozz: Torley : oh, indeed.
Prospero Frobozz: Can you imagine somebody trying to do a Babylon 5 movie that recapped the series?
Torley Linden: People want the whole plot arc in a compressed span of time...
Amphithetre Andalso: aie
Arkhanis Starostin: B5!
Wyn Galbraith: .
Wyn Galbraith: Done.
Torley Linden: Oh gosh, that'd be a travesty!
Arkhanis Starostin: Wow. I'd nearly forgotten that existed. Ty.
Torley Linden: Babylon 5 is underrated; I've seen just a few eps but I really did like what I saw.
Squirrel Wood: http://www.theprodukkt.com/debris <= ^^
Torley Linden: I liked the costumes a lot.
Arkhanis Starostin: Kosh ftw
Prospero Frobozz: Serenity was a great movie... but there was so much potential in the Firefly setup that will never be explored.
Prospero Frobozz: B5 is my favorite.
Torley Linden: My fave sci-fi saga is prolly DUNE, which is why I have a sandworm out front...
Prospero Frobozz: I'm a B5 nerd :)
Trinity Dejavu: its really good - watched most of it
Torley Linden: Prospero: Whedon has a knack for good characterization...
Trinity Dejavu: mmmmm
Arkhanis Starostin: Mmm. I liked the Dune movie
Torley Linden: Kinda how funny Buffy started as a movie then became a TV series, and Sereinity did the reverse.
Torley Linden: *Serenity I mean!
Amphithetre Andalso: I found recorded off the tv dune recently in my old videotape stash
Prospero Frobozz: I was giving a talk at a scifi convention a few weeks ago about Newton's Laws in science fiction movies and TV.
Prospero Frobozz: I had a nerdgasm over the motion of the fighters in B5.
Saijanai Kuhn: which version do y ou like, Torley?
Torley Linden: I love the music from DUNE, the 1984 one... by Toto... it's so heroic.
starcomber Vig: not sure I mean fassbinder did Alexanderplats and that was 48 hours, nothing againsta such format these days really
Torley Linden: Oh really Prospero? :D Hahaha! That's so awesome.
Arkhanis Starostin: Is this the DUNE with patrick stewart?
Hope Tesio loved the Dune books :) bored by the movie :P
Torley Linden: I like the DUNE miniseries from 2003 (I think?) on Sci-Fi Channel too.
Amphithetre Andalso rubs eyes
Torley Linden: Arkhanis: Yeah that's the 1984 one, where he plays Gurney.
Arkhanis Starostin: Aye
Amphithetre Andalso: Patrick Stewart was in...dune?
Amphithetre Andalso: :O
Saijanai Kuhn: David Lynch has one word to deswcribe tghe movie: heartbreak
Amphithetre Andalso writes this down
Arkhanis Starostin: Yup, and he rocked
Amphithetre Andalso: \o/
Torley Linden: I think we still have a DUNE-ish roleplay region in Second Life... Lemon Yellow.
Prospero Frobozz: In fact I did the nerdgasm on my blog too: http://scienceblogs.com/interactions/2007/07/newtons_laws_in_science_fictio.php
Arkhanis Starostin: Harded than he rocked the bridge of the enterprise, tbh
Torley Linden: Kewl Prospero I gotta have a look.
Torley Linden: Hahaha!
Torley Linden: I liked Gurney Halleck with a blade!
Prospero Frobozz: Patrick Stewart was Gurney Halleck, and he had long hair.
Torley Linden: Those old-skool personal shield effects RAWKED...
Prospero Frobozz: But was till bald on top.
Amphithetre Andalso: oh man
Arkhanis Starostin: The slow, blade ;)
Amphithetre Andalso: No wonder i missed him
Torley Linden: Yeah...
Trinity Dejavu: very cool
Grizzy Griswold: Patrick Stewart with hair?
Amphithetre Andalso: Way cool
Saijanai Kuhn: I thought the casting of DUne the movie was excellent. THe chnages made int eh script were appalling
Torley Linden: "MOOD'S A THING FOR CATTLE AND LOVEPLAY, NOT FIGHTING!"
Torley Linden: Ha ha ha ha.
Prospero Frobozz: If you wanna see Patric Stewart with a 'fro, watch the BBC Hamlet.
Arkhanis Starostin: Never a quick one. Has to be slow with the shield..
Torley Linden: Weirding Modules, oh my.
Torley Linden: Prospero: Oh that sounds too freakin' hilarious.
Amphithetre Andalso: Nein?!
Saijanai Kuhn: and like I saaid, when the diretor saus it was "heartbreak' you know something is wrong
Amphithetre Andalso: Fro...Stewart
Prospero Frobozz: It's actually a good rendition of Hamlet.
Amphithetre Andalso: Wow
Prospero Frobozz: Derek Jacoby is Hamlet.
Prospero Frobozz: STewart is Claudius
Torley Linden: Prospero: Those are great pictures to accompany your explanation, I like connecting pop culture to science, gets people interested...
Prospero Frobozz: Yeah... when I gave the talk, I had clips from the shows and movies.
Squirrel Wood: Oh My... http://www.werkkzeug.com/pricing_licence/werkkzeug3te quite expensive it looks
Torley Linden: Michio Kaku (such a great explainer and a big fan of talking about physics + pop culture) is one of my faves.
Prospero Frobozz: Thanks, Btw :)
Amphithetre Andalso: <3 Kaku
Torley Linden: :D
Arkhanis Starostin: Yanno what the best thing bout Stewart is? We put him on Top Gear, he ripped up the star-in-the-car comp, came right up by the top. I always found that awesome. Captain Picard is a petrol-head
starcomber Vig: saij, Lynch has so far moved to territories that are difficult to even touch...
Amphithetre Andalso: No!
Grizzy Griswold: Torley that castlevania movie sounds terrible.
Torley Linden: Arkhanis: Hahahaha.
Hope Tesio: um, Torley.. can I ask y'all a question about land in SL?
Torley Linden: Grizzy: Sadly so. :(
Amphithetre Andalso: Top gear and stewart
Amphithetre Andalso: man!
Torley Linden: David Lynch is weeeeeeeird.
Arkhanis Starostin: H rocked
Amphithetre Andalso: And he was the emperor
Arkhanis Starostin: He has a Jaguar <3
Amphithetre Andalso: Yikes, this man is all over
Torley Linden: Hope please do! If it's support-related, http://support.secondlife.com would know more tho. :)
Amphithetre Andalso: !
starcomber Vig: he's mastering that excellently, that is "growing old" to a director
Hope Tesio: hehe, we use to have Twin Peaks parties...
starcomber Vig: I admire him
Torley Linden: Patrick Stewart is one of my fave actors.
Madelaine Malinow: hi
Hope Tesio: well, it's not really support related.. just a neighbor, who seems to have disappeared.
Torley Linden: I long wondered about the "two weird Davids" -- David Lynch + David Cronenberg should make a movie together.
Prospero Frobozz: Is that Patrick Stewart doing the voice over at the beginning of Oblivion?
Hope Tesio: and has his land set for sale to me...
Arkhanis Starostin: yes
Grizzy Griswold: been meaning to check out the Twin Peaks DVDs..
Amphithetre Andalso: Yes, it is
Grizzy Griswold: ever seen the show
starcomber Vig: lol
Torley Linden: I think Patrick Stewart does a king in Elder Scrolls eh...
Hope Tesio: as a joke, he set it for 10 Million...
Amphithetre Andalso: Yeah, it's made of lol
Prospero Frobozz: The king had all that hair....
Saijanai Kuhn: Have you seen INland Empire?
Torley Linden: Hope: Okay... hmmmm...
Saijanai Kuhn: INLAND EMPIRE
Torley Linden: Hope: So he wasn't really intending to sell you that land?
Torley Linden: And hi Madelaine, welcome to my Office Hour!
Wyn Galbraith loves Patrick Stewart.
Arkhanis Starostin: Damned, damned good voicing for Oblivion. Stewart, Bean.. I mean wow
Amphithetre Andalso: Agreed: We <3 Patrick Stewart
Torley Linden: Patrick Stewart has an AWESOME VOICE.
Madelaine Malinow: hi Torley , !
Hope Tesio: well, I think so, he said he would, and we im'd for a while...
starcomber Vig: cronenberg did a simple movie lately... Hostory of Violence... really a simjple movie but would you call the technique ingenuous?
Prospero Frobozz: I was just happy there was voicing :) Morrowwind was pretty, but there were no voices.
Wyn Galbraith: He has awsome legs.
Prospero Frobozz: I've just barely started Oblivion.
starcomber Vig: cronenberg is smartass big boy
Amphithetre Andalso: I love that game
Hope Tesio: he's a prankster and funny, but he's disappeared now.. if he plays it's w/an alt
Madelaine Malinow: What are you doing?
Torley Linden: Hahaha "smartass big boy", what a title to be branded with.
Al Sonic: Though if it's around an hour I guess these are around the final minutes.
Torley Linden: Hope: Okay -- so what's your question about this? =D
Arkhanis Starostin: That's because you like killing peeps dear
starcomber Vig: yep :))))
Amphithetre Andalso: Sh
Arkhanis Starostin: <_<
Hope Tesio: is never at his land, I don't think.. just wondering if theres a procedure
Amphithetre Andalso: >_>
Wyn Galbraith is a Fangirlz
Torley Linden: Madelaine: We're talking about various topics, transitioning from one to another... mainly sci-fi and Hope's got a land question. For more info you can see...
Torley Linden: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden
Wyn Galbraith: Or maybe that's Fanboyz
Saijanai Kuhn: Torley wanted to thank you fortidying up that jira
Amphithetre Andalso: feed it some vitamins?
Saijanai Kuhn is a fanzlienz
Torley Linden: Saijanai: You're welcome! Which one tho? And I asked Rob Linden about the "Make scripting a top-level project" one.
starcomber Vig: anybody has anything to say about the supposed to be "slump" in the economy? Anybody see that? I personally agree with Meta about "seasonality" but... anybody?
Arkhanis Starostin: Nothing wrong with fan'ing up the 'Stewart
Saijanai Kuhn: fanalienz
Grizzy Griswold: well since you shared yours Torley: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Grizzy_Griswold
Madelaine Malinow: understand, you are very friendly
Prospero Frobozz: I have a gadget store that used to have a trickle of sales, has had none in a week. That's my small datum for the slump.
Harleen Gretzky: He is Emperor Uriel Septim VII in Elder SCrolls:Oblivion
Amphithetre Andalso nods
Torley Linden: starcomber: Meta's a very smart spider about data... I don't have any particular comments that stand out but I of course am curious about not just how much time people spend inworld, but what they're doing.
Wyn Galbraith: Oh now, I'd fan up to Stewart any day, noon, or night.
Hope Tesio: always a slowdown after an update... :)
Amphithetre Andalso: tee
Torley Linden: My interests about Resident activities, some of them anyway, are really difficult to quantify tho. I love to know who's rediscovering a childhood joy in here.
starcomber Vig: I am curious about seasonal
Torley Linden: Or expressing creativity they haven't before.
Prospero Frobozz: Dinosaurs!
Amphithetre Andalso is, technically
Wyn Galbraith loves Tori almost as much.
Amphithetre Andalso: Dinsaurs, and dragons ^_^
Al Sonic: I kinda wanted to thank Torley just for showing that appreciation of my dodecahedron ^_^
Saijanai Kuhn: Cosmic Osmo
Prospero Frobozz: I was a major Dinosaur freak as a kid, and thanks to Nargus Asturias (sic?), I get to be one now :)
Torley Linden: Hope: Ahhh. Okay, procedure is -- this is between you and him, really. If you have another way to contact him, you can try... but else, the best you can hope for is likely to IM him every now and then and ask him, see if he replies.
Amphithetre Andalso: I know, Nargus is great
Torley Linden: Ah yes Nargus has a whole Jurassic Park-like setup!
Torley Linden: COSMIC OSMO... OMG... I wanna play that.
Torley Linden: I have fleeting glimpses of that as a kid...
Torley Linden: Great that you have a wiki page Grizzy! :D
Saijanai Kuhn: its being rerelased for the PC in color
Prospero Frobozz: He's got a new raptor avvie coming out built from sculpties.
Torley Linden: Saijanai: But when? I kept hearing that for like, years...
Saijanai Kuhn: You don't recoginze the head? needs work I guess
Amphithetre Andalso: I know. I'm exicted
Torley Linden: SCULPTIE RAPTOR rawrrrrrrr.
Amphithetre Andalso: Yes
Arkhanis Starostin: Damn you and your monies ¬¬
Hope Tesio: ok, thx Torley, kinda what I've been doing... I'll watch his pymt info, and see what happens over time.. thx :)
Torley Linden: Saijanai, now that you mention it, I do... btu I don't see pupils.
Prospero Frobozz: I saw him at one point when it was in development. Sculpted shape, everything the default wood texture, and little "script error" icons all over :)
Torley Linden: You're welcome Hope, all the best with it. :)
Torley Linden: Hahaha it's so cool to watch people in-progress creating things in Second Life.
Torley Linden: I often like watching inventors in action...
Hope Tesio: funny thing, I set some of my land for sale to him for 100mill.. a win-win ;)
Squirrel's Fortune Cookie: Here's some wisdom for you:
Squirrel's Fortune Cookie: A person who aims at nothing is sure to hit it. -- Anonymous
Torley Linden: Later on seeing the polished product out on the market...
Al Sonic: Yep, that's one of the most unique things in SL.
Torley Linden: LOL Hope, that's big L$$$!
Al Sonic: The building in action.
Hope Tesio: it's a 992! rofl
Squirrel Wood: heed the cookies advice ^^
Bridie Linden: I gotta run...see you all later!
Prospero Frobozz: Hasta
Torley Linden: Take care Bridie! Have a lovely weekend!
Hope Tesio: bye Bridie
Daedalus Young: bye Bridie
starcomber Vig: ciao bridie
Torley Linden: Thanx again for coming!
Al Sonic: *wave* :)
Daedalus Young: have fun with your iPhone
Prospero Frobozz: Isn't that a song?
Squirrel Wood: hanks for spending time with us loons ^^
Torley Linden: I think there's magic in seeing the process...
Torley Linden: Hahaha...
Grizzy Griswold: bye Bridie
Bridie Linden: I might just keep it! Take care all!
Torley Linden: =D
Torley Linden: "And that was the story of how Bridie got her iPhone..."
Torley Linden: ;)
Wyn Galbraith: B-bye!!! :D
starcomber Vig: she's going to play with her iPhoney, I knew it
Torley Linden: I loved games like Cosmic Osmo, Myst... because they weren't necessarily open-ended "sandbox" games like we have today, but the sense of exploration and adventure, for having (in hindsight) relatively linear paths was clearly unprecedented.
Amphithetre Andalso: I'm falling in love with Uru, again
Torley Linden: Amphithetre, have you been to Uru island inworld?
Al Sonic smiles at the awesome Dazzle Bat.
Saijanai Kuhn: Manhole was another Robyn and Rand game
Wyn Galbraith: I have Uru still shrinkwrapped.
Amphithetre Andalso: Yes, many times
Arkhanis Starostin: We've been there
Torley Linden: Thanks Al, I'm so thankful to Sylver for this!
Squirrel Wood: The old games still are the best. Simple graphics but good stories behind them ^^
Al Sonic: Sylver Bu sure does good work.
Torley Linden: Awesomeeeee. :D
Arkhanis Starostin: Ahyoheek >_>
Torley Linden: You also know Robyn Miller has been to SL too, yes?
starcomber Vig: Torley, remember when Myst came out it was Hypercard based... a bunch of slides
Amphithetre Andalso: Arkh and I played Ahyoherk
Wyn Galbraith currently can't seem to find it.
Amphithetre Andalso: Yeah!
Arkhanis Starostin: And I got in your braaaain
Wyn Galbraith: I worked with a programmer that worked on Riven.
Amphithetre Andalso: The isle is out as of wednesday the 11th
Amphithetre Andalso: :/
Torley Linden: Squirrel: Yeah, it's like good graphics, when they're available, should nourish a tale instead of hiding its flaws (or trying to, lamely).
Wyn Galbraith: He kept trying to give me clues in his area.
Wyn Galbraith: Told him to STOP!
Torley Linden: Oh really Wyn? Neat. Qarl Linden worked on Riven.
Amphithetre Andalso: I took some last pics, they're in my snapzilla
Torley Linden: starcomber: Yes I certainly do!
Wyn Galbraith: Really? OMG
Torley Linden: I used HyperCard a lot, I guess in some ways, this is the evolution...
Saijanai Kuhn: Sometimes bad graphics enhance a game. NOthing was more frustrating then The Prisoner on a Trash-80
Torley Linden: Qarl (who coded sculpties, hehe) also worked on Matrix: Revolutions...
Wyn Galbraith: Did he do the island with the sunbathers?
Amphithetre Andalso: The sign said it was to generate interest for Uru
Torley Linden: Wyn: I don't know specifically what he created...
Amphithetre Andalso: Wow, cool
Torley Linden: Saijanai: I remember that Prisoner game but never played it.
Daedalus Young: it's great to see a talent like Qarl on the Linden crew
Wyn Galbraith: That would sure make it a small world if it's the same person.
Prospero Frobozz: Zork!
Amphithetre Andalso: Is this the same Qarl who does textures and such for Elderscrolls?
Torley Linden: Qarl has such a great eye for detail -- he also worked on visual effects in 300...
Squirrel Wood: Le Chuck!
Wyn Galbraith: He programmed graphics.
Torley Linden: You know, THIS IS SPARTA!
Saijanai Kuhn: Have you seen Killer Bean and Killer Bean II? By one of hte animators of the Matrix
Al Sonic: Yeah, that sure makes Qarl an awesome guy to see. And his work shows it.
Amphithetre Andalso: DO WE DINE IN HELL TONIGHT?!
Torley Linden: Daedalus: Did you let him know that firsthand? He'll be delighted. :D
Torley Linden: HAHAHAHA!!!!
Torley Linden: I haven't seen 300 yet, but Qarl did the wheat effects...
Wyn Galbraith worries about that nut.
Daedalus Young: no, I will
Amphithetre Andalso: :O
Amphithetre Andalso: neat
Torley Linden: http://www.qarl.com
Amphithetre Andalso: Thanks :)
Torley Linden: I have so many great coworkers...
Prospero Frobozz: cow orkers?
Torley Linden: Qarl sent me the turtle shown on his page...
Al Sonic: *nods* it's amazing to get to meet them in SL.
Torley Linden: I can't wait to try it out...
Grizzy Griswold: someone's been reading Dilbert again
Wyn Galbraith: Not the same person.
Daedalus Young: Sardonyx apprently is a code god too
Al Sonic: You too Torley =)
Torley Linden: Yeah Al totally, avatars really go a great distance that way too...
Squirrel Wood: You need to get all Lindens onto SL at the same time for a group screenshot ^^
Amphithetre Andalso: that'd be cool
Torley Linden: Yeah Sardonyx has been applying Open Source patches like mad, what else do you know about him Daedalus?
Squirrel Wood: And then label that one "Count/Find the Lindens"
Prospero Frobozz: I don't think there's a sim that could handle it :)
Amphithetre Andalso: Maybe a nice sidebar for the blog?
starcomber Vig: you may want to grab Qarl's jetpack... the best!
Daedalus Young: that he works fast indeed :P
Saijanai Kuhn: http://www.jefflew.com/movies/KB2_Remastered.mov killer bean + advertisement
Grizzy Griswold: how about "Where's Torley?" books
Grizzy Griswold: kind of like Where's Waldo
Torley Linden: It's funny history -- Kelly Linden's alt, Ama Omega (he says this in his profile, don't worry!) was one of the first Casino Kings of Second Life...
Torley Linden: Amphithetre: Oh, waht do you want for a sidebar?
Daedalus Young: read on Nicholaz' blog Sardonyx fixed a bug in under 30 minutes once
Torley Linden: It's so funny because I remember Kelly playing Tringo when it was new... and he was totally kicking ass.
Amphithetre Andalso: Like a picture of all the lindens?
Daedalus Young: a mem leak I believe
Rock Pond Pose ball: llStopAnimation: Script trying to stop animations but agent not found
Torley Linden: Yeah, Sardonyx is very fast.
Amphithetre Andalso: Maybe so people can see who's working at LL
Prospero Frobozz: Heck, I fixed a bug this morning in about 1 minute. Of course, last night, I was beating my head against it for 3 hours....
Damani Roadster 0.50 - watermelon: You are not the owner...
Wyn Galbraith: Ah that's what happened to Ama Omega of the Scripts.
Al Sonic: XD where's Torley? You sure his colors wouldn't stand out too much?
Torley Linden: Amphithetre: AH!! Yes, it's prolly hard to get all Lindens inworld at the same time... but I do agree we need more visuals and Who's Who.
Daedalus Young: depends what kind of bug :P
Amphithetre Andalso nods
Torley Linden: Wyn: There you have it, and yes... same Ama Omega who did some of the first particle templates.
Prospero Frobozz: This was a stupid thinko kind of bug :)
Amphithetre Andalso: could always invoke the power of Layers
Torley Linden: We have like, over 200 employees now, but yesterday at a meeting, I saw about 50 inworld at the same time.
Torley Linden: Haha Amphithetre, the magic of post-processing.
Amphithetre Andalso: ^_^
Squirrel Wood: 50! *faints*
Torley Linden: Yes, I was squished in Lindens.
Wyn Galbraith: You know that's how I became admin in a textbased rp MUSH once, I, with three other players, pissed off three planets with one act.
Prospero Frobozz: 50 is a lot.
Prospero Frobozz: Everybody's graphics cards must have been whining
Torley Linden: At a typical meeting I'll be with 5-15 Lindens.
Wyn Galbraith: So the creator wanted us on staff.
Squirrel Wood: Now that would be a funny name... Squishy Linden ^^
Torley Linden: Prospero surprisingly it was low, like 5 FPS for me, but not unusable.
Torley Linden: We were running into problems with Voice though.
Prospero Frobozz: I'm at 6FPS right now :)
Grizzy Griswold: I want your job Torley.
Torley Linden: Voice got many c-c-c-c-r-raaaaaccckkklllyyyy....
Torley Linden: And I was like "WUT U SAYIN!?"
Squirrel Wood gave you magHUD.
Grizzy Griswold: I want to fly around sl all the time and take pictures of stuff and talk to people.
Daedalus Young: I always thought Tree Linden would make a good name
Torley Linden: Awwwe Grizzy, well I gotta say, even if I am biased ;), working for Linden Lab is great.
Amphithetre Andalso: snrk
Al Sonic: <_< yeah the voice signal can have some trouble, for sure.
Squirrel Wood hands Torley a product that can never be sold due to limitations with notecard permissions :(
Torley Linden: Grizzy: And triage Issue Tracker stuff too? =D
Torley Linden: Hee hee.
Saijanai Kuhn: 4.0 fps for me
Torley Linden: Ug, Squirrel, what is that limitation?
Squirrel Wood: any notecard that is not full perms cannot be read. at all.
Grizzy Griswold: Even though I ama programmer. I do NOT want to work on that part.
Wyn Galbraith can imagine working in this world.
Torley Linden: Squirrel: Is this a a new bug?
Squirrel Wood: Its not a bug. It's by design.
Squirrel Wood: and is on pjira as won't fix
Torley Linden: Permissions are subtle...
Torley Linden: Ah. Which one is it in PJIRA?
Torley Linden: I'm not well-acquainted with this...
Squirrel Wood: lemme look it ups
Saijanai Kuhn thinks they need a new permission flag to do what Squirrel wants
Squirrel Wood falls asleep while jira loads..
Al Sonic: What happened to the unmodifyable, readable notecards?
Torley Linden: I do not know.
Torley Linden: I wish we had richer text than notecards.
Harleen Gretzky: I can read No Modify and No transfer notecards
Torley Linden: If you just hand someone a raw no-mod notecard tho that should still work tho.
Grizzy Griswold: me too Torley..
Squirrel Wood: Yeth. it was a change that broke a lot of products and wouldn't be undone as it would "break" too many new products that rely on it working this way so a new flag was suggested and that still is open methinks
Al Sonic: Good, so they are still there.
Grizzy Griswold: like stuff you could embed pictures into.
Torley Linden: But nested in an object is something else apparently...
Daedalus Young: yes, no mod no trans I can read fine
Squirrel Wood: your own no mod cards are not a problem. but someone elses no mod / any other perm notecard cannot be read.
Squirrel Wood: when given to you
Daedalus Young: the ones I have in my inventory now are fine though
Saijanai Kuhn: they're not in something else
Squirrel Wood: inventory is one thing. a script trying to read them is another.
Torley Linden: Ahhh OK...
Harleen Gretzky: How would you get a no mod otherwise?
Torley Linden: Harsh, alas. It's tricky to keep up with all the changes.
Squirrel Wood: misc-46 it was I think
Torley Linden: *looks*
Daedalus Young: Unable to view notecards: "Insufficient permissions to view notecard"
Torley Linden: That is a dupe of https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1225 which Soft Linden is working on...
Daedalus Young: duplicated by https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1225
Squirrel Wood: humm... nope wasn't it but is related methinks
Daedalus Young: ha yes
Grizzy Griswold: I'll see everyone later
Torley Linden: I'll ping Soft for latest status on that.
Torley Linden: OK Grizzy!
Grizzy Griswold: I need to go...
Daedalus Young: bye Grizzy
Saijanai Kuhn: that's a lot of votes for an issue
Squirrel Wood: vwr-179
Torley Linden: Ahhh look at the time! How time has flown like a pig with wings! @_@ I must be going myself... I'd like to thank each and all of you for being here.
Torley Linden: And coming to visit me at mah Office Hour!
Squirrel Wood: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-179
Daedalus Young: thanks Torley, for hosting it
Squirrel Wood: that one it is
Saijanai Kuhn: thanks Torley and thanks for renaming my jira for me.
Al Sonic: Always happy to be here :)
Harleen Gretzky: bye Torley
starcomber Vig: thank you Torley
Saijanai Kuhn: peopel are starting to vote for it without me scraming about it
Wyn Galbraith: Thanks for the great meeting Torley.
Torley Linden: Bye all! And you're super-welcome. :)
