Torley Linden: Hello my good people!
Lyndsey Forager: hey torley
Yang Oyen: Hello !
Lyndsey Forager: nice hat torley
DJ Jenns: hola Torley
Torley Linden: Thanks!
Chase Marellan: Hi, all
Chase Marellan: Hi, Torley
Torley Linden: I was going for a SORT OF Indiana Jones-look.
DJ Jenns: Hi Chase
Torley Linden: Hey Lyndsey, Yang, DJ, Chase!
Torley Linden: Good to see ya.
Harleen Gretzky: Hi Torley
Torley Linden: What's new and severely exciting?
Lyndsey Forager: its so long since ive been here - so much has happened
Chase Marellan: "severely exciting" Now that's something to live up to. :)
Lyndsey Forager: We are back from Italy!!!!!!!
Lyndsey Forager: yay
Chase Marellan: How was it?
Torley Linden: :D
JetZep Zabelin: Hi Torley
Lyndsey Forager: AMAZING
Torley Linden: Italy sounds like a very nice place to visit, I've never been there myself.
DJ Jenns: lol different, a very different culture to get used to lol
Lyndsey Forager: yeah, i like the idea of a 3 hour lunch break
DJ Jenns: but the food was incredible the people were so friendly and i made some $$$$$ so thats always good lmdao
Lyndsey Forager: and, you were amazing and the people loved your music
Torley Linden: Oh rock on!
Torley Linden: That's great! You performed shows there?
Lyndsey Forager: once they were properly educated by dj jenns
Chase Marellan: Congratulations
Randal Kline: you used 5 $ so its a 5-figure sum i suppose
DJ Jenns: yeah it took a week or two for them to change their tastes but by new year they were bouncing about
Torley Linden: Haha... what were you DJing? :)
Lyndsey Forager: they were begging for more some nights
DJ Jenns: mainly funky/electro house
DJ Jenns: I had trance with me but i didnt want to push my luck heheh
Damani Roadster 0.50 - watermelon: You are not the owner...
Torley Linden: Ahhh.
DJ Jenns: so yeah anything exciting happen over the festive period in sl ?
JetZep Zabelin: =)
Torley Linden: Sometimes what's funny is mixing a single track, or one with isolated frequencies to make some choice hybrids.
Torley Linden: Work has been crazy for me! I'm hoping to relax this weekend.
Chase Marellan: how was the review?
Chase Marellan: great, I'm sure
Torley Linden: Er, I meant, "mixing in", like putting a trance arpeggio on top of an electro house groove. =)
Torley Linden: Chase, haven't gotten all my feedback back yet but hopefully soon, thanks for asking!
aliceinwire Bleac: hello! everyone
Torley Linden: I have a lot of supportive and very delightful coworkers.
aliceinwire Bleac: friendly greetings
Torley Linden: Heya aliceinwire! Friendly greetings. :D
NagL Harbour: hello
Lyndsey Forager: hey hey nagL
aliceinwire Bleac gave you torley gift box 1.0.
Torley Linden: Hmmm that's weird, I coulda sworn I had a couch on the other side...
Torley Linden: what happened to it... @_@
Randal Kline: anyone seen this vid yet about Alien Speech Found in NASA's Saturn Radio Signal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGeWBiLVn8g)
aliceinwire Bleac: O_O
aliceinwire Bleac: is vanished O_O
Laetizia Coronet: what, your melon couch?
Torley Linden: One sec... *checks if it's really missing*
Torley Linden: Yes, that's the one!
DJ Jenns: Randal - let me check that
Torley Linden: OH MY GOSH, it's gone!!!
Chase Marellan: yes, it's really missing!
Torley Linden: What in blazes!??
aliceinwire Bleac: wow is really messing
JetZep Zabelin: hmm it was there when i arrived
Isabell Ewing: torley, report a bug!
aliceinwire Bleac: we have to call X-Files
aliceinwire Bleac: call molder and scully
DJ Jenns: lolol A linden affected by inventory loss, bittersweet irony
Torley Linden: Okay, I'm not gonna freak out... haha... I'm going to be rational about this...
Isabell Ewing: i know a nice tutorial how to report
DJ Jenns: lol
Lyndsey Forager: LOL, isnt this wierd
Laetizia Coronet: please call Support or leave a ticket
aliceinwire Bleac: i see the alien come also in SL
Torley Linden: Hahaha Isabell.
Torley Linden: :D
JetZep Zabelin: that is strange
Torley Linden: Oh I see what happened, it's back in my inventory, not Lost and Found tho. Maybe I accidentally took it.
Lyndsey Forager: wonder who stoled it
Failed to place object at specified location. Please try again.
Randal Kline: its still there! though we cant see it
aliceinwire Bleac: ihih
Torley Linden: :)
JetZep Zabelin: oh good hehe
aliceinwire Bleac: oooh is returned
Laetizia Coronet: apparently it happens to the best of us :)
aliceinwire Bleac: strange things happen in torley land
Torley Linden: Yeah I have had bona fide inventory loss before, it's horrible.
aliceinwire Bleac: the first page of tomorrow torley magazine
Laetizia Coronet: only yesterday I 'purged' instead of 'restored'... ugh
Torley Linden: I do think it's important for Lindens to experience inworld problems like that... hearing about it is one thing, experiencing it is another.
Torley Linden: :(
aliceinwire Bleac: yeah i agree
Torley Linden: Harleen, I notice your group title! I last visited Science Friday some weeks ago... I know Prospero Linden attends regularly.
Laetizia Coronet: SL ALWAYS asks me if i am sura bout this or that, but not when I purge...
DJ Jenns: Randal thats a bit odd
Lyndsey Forager: he he, i subconsciously bought a pink and green bobble hat when i was in italy
aliceinwire Bleac: yep
Harleen Gretzky: Yes, he is tehre most weeks :) It has gotten really big, they have tehre own sim and all now
aliceinwire Bleac: i had know too prosper
Laetizia Coronet: it even asked me just now "Are you sure you want to go to Watermelinden Land?" ;-)
Randal Kline: Jenns: whats odd?
Laetizia Coronet: is this chat lag hell or what? Or is it just my 486 not coping? ;)
Lyndsey Forager: is it quiet or is it chat lag?
Torley Linden: Hahaha.
JetZep Zabelin: hehe Lyndsey
Torley Linden: Testing testing, gotta keep chatting!
Lyndsey Forager: snap
Randal Kline: quietness i believe
aliceinwire Bleac: jet lag
Lyndsey Forager: lolol
Laetizia Coronet: well it's 6 AM for Torley.... I would not be chatty
Lyndsey Forager: its funny how not being in sl for 5 weeks, everything seams different
aliceinwire Bleac: test 123 test
JetZep Zabelin: lag is my usual speed
Torley Linden: I like to wake up early!
Randal Kline: stop IMing folks lol
Torley Linden: Lyndsey: Better, brighter, how different? :)
Lyndsey Forager: just, like you forgot how it is
aliceinwire Bleac: yeah i like to wake up early too like 12 am
aliceinwire Bleac: :D
Laetizia Coronet: I know, I hate it, i wojuld have a shooting hour instead of an office hour lol
Lyndsey Forager: you know, even my rl house looks different
Torley Linden: Shooting with guns or cameras or something else, Laetizia? ;)
Lyndsey Forager: lol
Lyndsey Forager: good point
Laetizia Coronet: "Come to Coronet Discussion Hour and get orbited for opening yer trap"
Chase Marellan: Early is the only time I can get anything done in my house
JetZep Zabelin: i get up reel early about mignight ;)
Chase Marellan: Laetizia: If only I could do that in real life...
Lyndsey Forager: so, did anyone else have black rings round them in windlight?
Lyndsey Forager: i noticed in when i logged in beriefly from rome
aliceinwire Bleac: i had a problem with the new relase
Laetizia Coronet: that is a bug...
aliceinwire Bleac: not the windlight one
Torley Linden: Hahahaha.
aliceinwire Bleac: the normal
Torley Linden: Lyndsey, yeah, we fixed that bug...
Laetizia Coronet: ...darned if I know the solution
Lyndsey Forager: ahhh
Torley Linden: Brad got right on it, in 78668 it's fixed.
Isabell Ewing: i stoped going to bed every day; it´s only waste of time
Torley Linden: I mean, 76886.
Torley Linden: Got my 6's and 8's mixed up.
Lyndsey Forager: he he
aliceinwire Bleac: after my first crash i have see a green banner in the bottom and don't load nothing
aliceinwire Bleac: so i have do to reinstall it
Lyndsey Forager: it lookes like a spaceship was using ring technology to beam us up
JetZep Zabelin: i like the new windlight, the environment rezzes better now
aliceinwire Bleac: and it coem the same things
DJ Jenns: that sounds a bit severe :-s
aliceinwire Bleac: i have delete second life
aliceinwire Bleac: and reistall it
aliceinwire Bleac: for go good
Isabell Ewing: i have deleted first life :-)
Laetizia Coronet: I have deleted First Life...
aliceinwire Bleac: lol
Laetizia Coronet: lol
Torley Linden: Haha, those black rings reminded me of a Tim Burton movie.
JetZep Zabelin: lol
JetZep Zabelin: I bet theres some people that like those black rings
Laetizia Coronet: Carbon, grab a seat, there's one free next to Torley
Randal Kline: are the black rings on the screen or on the eyes' bags?
DJ Jenns: yeps unhappy they were removed lol
Lyndsey Forager: it was certainly different
Laetizia Coronet: ah you have your own
Isabell Ewing: she has a seat of her own :-)
aliceinwire Bleac: torley milk :D
Carbon Sirbu: oh, right, thx, i was just loading
Torley Linden: Come and have a seat! =)
DJ Jenns: that sounds so wrong lol
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
DJ Jenns: torley milk lol
Carbon Sirbu: ^^
Laetizia Coronet: I wonder what they say at Seat dealerships
aliceinwire Bleac: i got torley milk !!!
Lyndsey Forager: lol, would it be pinky green or greeny pink
Laetizia Coronet: I like my milk white, thanks
Torley Linden: Hahahaha.
Torley Linden: Mmmm.
JetZep Zabelin: sounds kinds like an eggnog
Torley Linden: I need to see that.
aliceinwire Bleac: :D
Torley Linden: I had some eggnog over the holidays.
DJ Jenns: if your milks green then you really need a new carton
DJ Jenns: lol
Laetizia Coronet: especially green is very suspect in milk
Torley Linden: I don't have it with alcohol but it has such a weird alien taste.
Lyndsey Forager: i like my milk think, chocolate and shakey
Torley Linden: Yeah, green in milk is usually like, MOLDEEEEEE.
DJ Jenns: argghhh nooooo egg-nog is vile vile vile
Torley Linden: Ewwwww.
Torley Linden: <.<
Moard Ling: How come it cost $10 to partner yet $100 to form a group, 10 partners=1 group ?
JetZep Zabelin: partners only cost $L10? wow
DJ Jenns: you'll see why its so cheap to partner in time
Laetizia Coronet: Moard, a group has many more possibilities like Group IM
DJ Jenns: trust me
DJ Jenns: lol
Torley Linden: Moard, I'm not sure exactly *why* but I've long wished that partnership had practical benefits and wasn't just "in name" only.
Lyndsey Forager: hey!
Lyndsey Forager: lolol
Torley Linden: Groups have practical benefits.
Moard Ling: Yeha partners are hjust dead weight
Chase Marellan: I agree on partnership
Torley Linden: I think divorce costs more than partnering...
aliceinwire Bleac: my milk is white only in a wrong pack
Chase Marellan: it does in real life, anyway
Moard Ling: lol it costs $25 to tone who does it
Laetizia Coronet: they should make it possible to have titles without all the group accoutrements
Chase Marellan: :)
Lyndsey Forager: yip, it always does
Torley Linden: Hahahaha.
Torley Linden: You guys are sharp.
Moard Ling: for nobos that is a lot of camping
Lyndsey Forager: who gets custody of the prim puppy
Chase Marellan: :)
aliceinwire Bleac: :D
DJ Jenns: I bought him!
DJ Jenns: paws off!
Lyndsey Forager: lolol
aliceinwire Bleac: oh is strowberry milk :O
Laetizia Coronet: Bring your puppies to me then... I have a firing range :P
JetZep Zabelin: LOL!
aliceinwire Bleac: i love strowberry milk
Moard Ling: erase me from your logs
Torley Linden: I remember in the early days when I was in SL, some people who didn't want to pay for a group to get a title, used a hovertext gadget instead.
Torley Linden: Some still do.
Chase Marellan: My daughter finally turned 13 and all she wanted for her birthday was to get on the teen grid.
Lyndsey Forager: omg laet - hands off ma puppies
Laetizia Coronet: oh yes I have one
aliceinwire Bleac: the titler
aliceinwire Bleac: fliptitle
Torley Linden: aliceinwire, I like the font on the milk cartoon. Very nicely stylized.
Torley Linden: Aww really Chase! :D
Laetizia Coronet: to show the langiuages I speak when helping people
Moard Ling: coffe and tv ?
Chase Marellan: Yep
Chase Marellan: she's SO excited.
DJ Jenns: great video
DJ Jenns: coffee and tv
JetZep Zabelin: When i was really newb I totally looked up to people who had tags
aliceinwire Bleac: now she is a second life addicted ihih
JetZep Zabelin: idk why
Chase Marellan: She wants to be a fashion designer in real life -- she actually has some talent -- so she's been absolutely salivating over it :)
Laetizia Coronet: JetZep, me too!
DJ Jenns: wow thats great Chase
aliceinwire Bleac: is not good show SL to child ihihih
Moard Ling: does she know about rollign restarts !
Chase Marellan: I don't frequent the areas I wouldn't show to her. :)
Lyndsey Forager: depends what they see
DJ Jenns: Second Life will be like an open canvas for her then
Chase Marellan: defintely
Laetizia Coronet: as if being "member" was fantastic, or "Organza Mall Vip"
JetZep Zabelin: I showed my cousin SL, he's never even really seen a computer before
aliceinwire Bleac: she can use plopper
Chase Marellan: she's thinking about her business and how she's going to run it and everything
aliceinwire Bleac: and make simple 3d sculpt
DJ Jenns: see you can already see how thats going to work out
Chase Marellan: aliceinwire: yes
aliceinwire Bleac: is a cool program
Torley Linden: I like the fancy group titles with a little ASCII art in them.
Lyndsey Forager: blaze better watch out when she turns 18
Chase Marellan: Well, she can see that nobody on the teen grid has money, fo rht emost part.
aliceinwire Bleac: sometime i use it too and i say wow i'm a artist ahahaahah
Moard Ling: teh equivalent of interail here must be treasure quest
Torley Linden: Chase, it sounds like she's really enthusiastic and already has a lot of ideas!
DJ Jenns: totally! thing is she has all this time to hone her skills
Torley Linden: That's fantastic. :D
Chase Marellan: Yes, definitely!
Lyndsey Forager: lol, chase will never get on the computer anymore
Laetizia Coronet: somehow this office always overtaxes my graph card...
Torley Linden: Hmmm I wonder why Laetizia.
aliceinwire Bleac: oh i have forget the milk mouth lol
Moard Ling: how long before she says this LM is far too kewl for you mum
Torley Linden: Isabell, great minimalist avatar.
Chase Marellan: hahaha No, she has to wait until there's one free; that's how we limit her addiction. :P)
Isabell Ewing: thx:-)
Lyndsey Forager: lo
Laetizia Coronet: I have a slow older laptop
aliceinwire Bleac: is a sad avi !!!
DJ Jenns: ouch
Isabell Ewing: but more important is the content :-)
Laetizia Coronet: should turn of shiny even
Chase Marellan: awwwww
Laetizia Coronet: *off
aliceinwire Bleac: i'm sad
Lyndsey Forager: i like happy milk better
Chase Marellan: why are you sad, aliceinwire? Are you missing?
Laetizia Coronet drinks lots of milk
DJ Jenns: sad milk cause his girlfriend got squished
Lyndsey Forager: awwwww
Moard Ling: what format should you present your vids to YouTube as for maximum goodness
Laetizia Coronet: maximum goodness... lol I like that
JetZep Zabelin: dont be sad, watermelon milk is yummy
Laetizia Coronet: but i have no answer, I just watch vids on YouTube
Torley Linden: Moard, do you want technical info on that?
JetZep Zabelin: i think it is =P
Torley Linden: I can tell you what I do.
Torley Linden: Infact, I'm more than happy to share!
Moard Ling: i presuem SL is so detailed that youtube will artifact anything
Moard Ling: pls do big t
Torley Linden: Yes, it does Moard. So having a well-compressed and very crisp source file helps.
aliceinwire Bleac: oh torley i have see you have commented the video of camomille :D
Torley Linden: One of the easiest ways is to export the movie from QuickTime Player if you have QuickTime Pro.
Torley Linden: Export it as H.264... there are several presets.
Moard Ling: lol mm2
Torley Linden: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden/Vidtut_process
Torley Linden: ^ I use that.
DJ Jenns: H.264 <3
aliceinwire Bleac: http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=b2H5tkxpbf4
Moard Ling: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6aIyjKPrp0 is what i did
aliceinwire Bleac: is so cool this video
Torley Linden: #3 on that page is "Upload to YouTube", I hope it helps. And always, always have an original source file which is MUCH higher-quality than what YouTube crunches it down to.
Torley Linden: That way, you can upload it to other sites, even make the full thing available for download.
Torley Linden: *checks out links*
Moard Ling: do you work with compressed vid ?
Torley Linden: Yes, I work with a variety of compressed video formats.
Torley Linden: aliceinwire: I really liked the usage of Joystick Flycam in that one.
DJ Jenns: bizarrely youtube works very well with Mpeg1
Torley Linden: Very very smooth!
DJ Jenns: especially if the video is under 10minutes
aliceinwire Bleac: yeah and i love that place :)
Torley Linden: As long as the original file looks good, YouTube shouldn't damage it TOO badly.
aliceinwire Bleac: come here sometime ^^
Torley Linden: aliceinwire, do you know what joystick was used to make that video?
Moard Ling: how big is a 5 min tut bvefore you upload it
Torley Linden: Oooh The Rails... concert...
aliceinwire Bleac: i can ask torley
Torley Linden: Moard, hmmm... well I have exact filesizes via the DOWNLOAD links here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Video_Tutorials
aliceinwire Bleac: and i say to you when i know
Torley Linden: But yesterday, Tip of the Week #18 is almost 15-and-a-half min. and 88-or-so megs.
aliceinwire Bleac: http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=xFsHJQllrb8 my live performance ihihih
Torley Linden: I prefer H.264 for its high quality and small filesizes.
Moard Ling: wow download tutorials is tahtt new
Torley Linden: The main downside is it takes a LONG time to encode.
Torley Linden: YES MOARD!
Torley Linden: I just added them recently!
Moard Ling: cool !
Torley Linden: You can download all Tip of the Weeks in hifi.
Lyndsey Forager: have you heard the tragic news, vera duckworth dies tonight in coronation street
Moard Ling: mutiple viewers love them
Torley Linden: :O I have never watched coronation street, only heard of it.
Laetizia Coronet: sheesh Lindsey
aliceinwire Bleac: why for me don-t work ctrl shift F1
aliceinwire Bleac: ?
Torley Linden: aliceinwire, what are you trying to do?
Moard Ling: you mean ctrl+alt+f1 ?
Damani Roadster 0.50 - watermelon: You are not the owner...
aliceinwire Bleac: yes sorry
Laetizia Coronet: that is why it does not work :D
aliceinwire Bleac: ctrl alt F1
aliceinwire Bleac: don't work for me
Yang Oyen: I'm using SL on Ubuntu Linux and when i clic on a URL, the Opera navigator is choose. I would like to use Firefox, is there a solution ?
Laetizia Coronet: what should it do?
aliceinwire Bleac: hide the UI
Moard Ling: whats good about shooting movies in SL is you can guarantee to get free passers by
Torley Linden: Hmmm sorry Yang, I don't know how to check the default browser on Linux.
Torley Linden: Does anyone?
Laetizia Coronet: Yang, isn't that a setting iin Ubuntu? Standard browser?
aliceinwire Bleac: don't work :(
Torley Linden: Haha Moard, I dig that spontaneity.
Laetizia Coronet: deafult is the word yes
Chase Marellan: If you start firefox, it should ask if it should be the default browser.
Chase Marellan: if you say "yes" then it should come up when you click on links.
Yang Oyen: Laetizia : No my default browser is Firefox on ubuntu :x
aliceinwire Bleac: for me don't work ctrl alt f1 any idea?
Randal Kline: can check firefox options
Chase Marellan: if it doesn't ask, there's a setting in the preferences to make it check.
Laetizia Coronet: ctrl alt F1 doesv nothing for me
Torley Linden: Pardon, I'll be back in a few min! Talk amongst yourselves. =)
Randal Kline: should have a setting to set it to default browser
DJ Jenns: woooo thats sexy
DJ Jenns: hide
DJ Jenns: hide ui
Moard Ling: always wanted a key to function lookup map in apps
aliceinwire Bleac: if i click on hide ui manually
Laetizia Coronet: hides jack sh*t for me
Lyndsey Forager: hide ui
aliceinwire Bleac: i can' return back
Moard Ling: as well as hiding ui
Yang Oyen: Is seem to be a SL preference.
DJ Jenns: no dopey press ctrl alt f1 for it
DJ Jenns: lol
Moard Ling: you gotta deselect selction beams
Moard Ling: turn down enviromntal sounds etc
Lyndsey Forager: ohhhh
Lyndsey Forager: very cool
aliceinwire Bleac: ???
DJ Jenns: thats so awesome!
DJ Jenns: i used to just crop out the menu in vegas
aliceinwire Bleac: don't work for me :(
Randal Kline: you used print screen or snapshot?
aliceinwire Bleac: no
Moard Ling: is tehre soem kind fo fucntioopn loc on the fcuntoion keys
Moard Ling: nevw kb have strange defaults fro them
Randal Kline: how about trying the Client menu method alicewire
Randal Kline: could be a faulty keyboard's key
aliceinwire Bleac: it work with it
aliceinwire Bleac: but i can-t come back
Dizzy Banjo: howdy :D
Chase Marellan: Dizzy!
Dizzy Banjo: hey chase
Moard Ling: does f1 do F1y htign sin other apps
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Lyndsey Forager: well, i am afraid i have to go back to work, lunch time is over, hope you all enjoy the rest of your day
Chase Marellan: see you Lyndsey!
DJ Jenns: take care hon see you soon
DJ Jenns: xxx
Randal Kline: take care
Lyndsey Forager: mwa mwa xxx
aliceinwire Bleac: bye bye
Torley Linden: Sorry about the interruption!
Torley Linden: I'm back!
Moard Ling: what re trhe chances of hitting 10 rollign restarst in row ?
Laetizia Coronet: ugh... laundry machine... brb
Torley Linden: Aw I just missed Lyndsey!
Dizzy Banjo: Hi Torley :)
Torley Linden: Moard, pretty high if you're teleporting to the East or West instead of going North.
Randal Kline: very slim?
Moard Ling: lol
Moard Ling: how do i knwo which way i am tping
Torley Linden: Moard, the World Map. :)
Laetizia Coronet: we have a map for that
Moard Ling: any chance of getting the sl map in to you tube for location
Laetizia Coronet: best is to hop across the line of restarts to a region which has already restarted
Moard Ling: maps!
Laetizia Coronet: there is one on slurl.com I believe, no?
Chase Marellan: I thought they're doing the "random restarts"
Chase Marellan: as in not proceding as a wave?
Laetizia Coronet: no those are called random crashes lol
Chase Marellan: hahahah No, that's every day. :)
Chase Marellan: it's getting better, let's be fair. :)
Moard Ling: every giog i went to was *weclome back* or *i must be going*
Randal Kline: i thought the latest one was a random one
Torley Linden: Yes, http://www.slurl.com has a webmap.
Torley Linden: Moard, that depends on how inter-world they wanna get. ;)
Torley Linden: The webmap for me tends to load faster than the inworld map. Strange yet true.
Moard Ling: Youtube you can enter location infor for your vid
Laetizia Coronet: it would be cool if you could surf the restart wave :)
Dizzy Banjo gave you PARSEC Press Release.
Randal Kline: cooler if you can film yourself doing that
Laetizia Coronet: yes
Moard Ling: have you tried wanderign round as ruth recently ppl give you all sorts fo stuff !
Laetizia Coronet: I think was just thrown off of Combat Sandbox for a restart but there you are never sure lol
Torley Linden: Laetizia, if the WindLight guys ever get any time, we earlier discussed having apocalyptic effects for rolling restarts.
Yang Oyen: I was Firefox as my default browser (in firefox preferences and ubuntu preferences too). But all the URL was launching Opera. I just try to delete Opera on my system and now Firefox is launching xD
Laetizia Coronet: cool!
Laetizia Coronet: Moard, i think i have most of the stuff people give away alreadsy lol
Torley Linden: *watches nametags bounce around*
Randal Kline: that would get people to anticipate rolling restarts :)
Moard Ling: arew the going to be the 4 lindens of the apolcapyse
Laetizia Coronet: lol
Torley Linden: Haha, that kinda reminds me of a Highlander episode.
Laetizia Coronet: that is a good one, I can use that for a blog... the Four Lindens of the Apocalypse
Dizzy Banjo: haha
Dizzy Banjo: nice
Moard Ling: that was aun unrated series
Dizzy Banjo has to bring up the SL according to Hitler video...
Laetizia Coronet: and Philip on a chair, separating the good from the bad
Torley Linden: Dizzy, that was funny... I've seen some other variations on that too.
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Chase Marellan: I haven't seen that
Pinky Ebbage: Oh my
Isabell Ewing: the good guys to the left, the others follow me!
Isabell Ewing: :-)
Laetizia Coronet: yes that was funny... but turn off sound if you understand German
Dizzy Banjo: oh chase its so good
Chase Marellan: but I love the apocolyptic effects idea
Dizzy Banjo: those naughty folks at Magrathean...
Chase Marellan: URL somebody? :)
Harleen Gretzky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gy9hQDT6fhI
Chase Marellan: thanks. :)
Moard Ling: ty
Laetizia Coronet: I was happy with the rOrientation island coment. That OI sucks like a bloody hoover
Pinky Ebbage: Heya, everyone.....uhm
Torley Linden: Heya Pinky!
aliceinwire Bleac: http://it.youtube.com/watch?v=ceNo_6pFh2s
aliceinwire Bleac: baseball :D
Pinky Ebbage: Heya, Torley!
Moard Ling: i need to film at OI how can i do that ?
Pinky Ebbage smiles
Randal Kline: has philip seen that one yet lol
Moard Ling: is there an inworld version
Torley Linden: Yeah, use of Flycam is REALLY nice in that, aliceinwire.
Torley Linden: Randal, not sure, but I know a lot of Lindens have.
Laetizia Coronet: Moard.. no inworld version of the present OI. You could contact Blue Linden for permission
Torley Linden: Wow Pinky, you really like pink!
Torley Linden: That's good!
Pinky Ebbage: Thanks for the place to sit!
Dizzy Banjo: i got some wonderful mario kit yesterday
Pinky Ebbage: I sure am, thanks!
Torley Linden: Moard, yeah... odd thing is there's an Orientation Island Public but it's a copy of the OLD OI that preceded the current one.
Pinky Ebbage: This is like MystiTools, keeps making benches
Laetizia Coronet: which was, in my view, a better OI than the present one
Torley Linden: Hehe yes Pinky, I believe it's a similar concept.
Torley Linden: Laetizia: Why do you feel that way?
Pinky Ebbage: Glad to finally meet, and to meet everyone here :-)
Laetizia Coronet: Torley, the OI is too confusing. A linear concept works better than all this moving about and HUD stuff
Pinky Ebbage: Sorry ot interrupt the conversation
Laetizia Coronet: I prefer the ones at Orientation Station
Laetizia Coronet: plus, OI look like Disneyland - how could someone convince their CEO of the seriousness of SL businesses like that?
Dizzy Banjo: they fit the colour scheme too
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Torley Linden: Ahhh.
Torley Linden: *nods*
Torley Linden: Laetizia, interestingly, you may know that some Resident-created orientation experiences opted for the linear route.
Randal Kline: we cant go into the new OI right?
Laetizia Coronet: Torlewy, I work for Metaverse :)
Randal Kline: *get
Laetizia Coronet: and I prefer itr
Torley Linden: :D
Laetizia Coronet: no Randal, noot unless you are a mentor
Torley Linden: OK full disclosure then! Haha.
Dizzy Banjo: yeh the current initial orientation is actual off grid i think isnt it.. or rather you cannot TP directly out
Laetizia Coronet: you can TP out but not in
Chase Marellan: I think you can tp out
Dizzy Banjo: yeh but only from one sign
Chase Marellan: I've "rescued" new people I've sent in. :)
Laetizia Coronet: nowadays you can TP either to a Help Island or to some info/welcome areas
Pinky Ebbage: In my opinion, you shouldn't TP out unless you learn some things, hmm?
Dizzy Banjo: yeh
Pinky Ebbage: For all the new ones
Torley Linden: Pinky, yeah, or unless you already know 'em.
Laetizia Coronet: well you can't force people Pinky
Pinky Ebbage: I know, I know
Dizzy Banjo: tough tho if you are just creating a testing alt
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Pinky Ebbage: Many have alts
Torley Linden: Whoa Pinky, you're a hobbit-leopard hybrid?
Chase Marellan: if you're being brought in by somebody who knows what they're doing, you shouldn't have to go through all that
Pinky Ebbage: Yes, I'm from other servers, Pinky is about 4 years old
Chase Marellan: and if you're smart enough to figure out as you go, you shouldn't have to be able to master all the tiny little details to get out of there
Pinky Ebbage: I am a hobbit, very short, I'm 5 foot tall here
Laetizia Coronet: ChASE... I disagree, being that I have to explain *the most basic* things to some newbs. Like where Search is
Pinky Ebbage: I'mn a neko
Chase Marellan: Let me tell you, when I brought my wife in for the first time, I had to help her out to get out of there, and if that had been my first experience, I wuld NEVER have stayed.
Randal Kline: give pple options when creating a new acccount. eg Are you an ALT? or Are you a new account?
Chase Marellan: I had to be so harsh, but it's true.
Chase Marellan: hate*
Laetizia Coronet: it would be nice if they *had to* do some basic training
Pinky Ebbage: My first account was in April 2007
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/17703
Pinky Ebbage: Brand new, so this is an alt
Pinky Ebbage: For an example
Laetizia Coronet: I have no alt
Chase Marellan: what would be nice is if you could get out right away but if you got stuck one of the "help" options was a hud that taught you the basics.
Torley Linden: Some say etiquette should be taught as part of the orientation experience, what do you guys think?
Chase Marellan: YES
Pinky Ebbage: Some are one avie kind of people, others have many avies
Laetizia Coronet: torley, etiquette is personal and cultural
Pinky Ebbage: I think so, Torley, yes!!
Carbon Sirbu: yes, this would be great
Pinky Ebbage: I believe in it
Laetizia Coronet: people will be assholes, you can't change that
Chase Marellan: You can't force people, but I think people would be more comortable if they knew what was expected
Chase Marellan: I know I would be
Chase Marellan: but then I'm not a very good people person. :)
Dizzy Banjo: Hey Torley this JIRA tutorial is really good
Laetizia Coronet: I guess tolerance is better - shouting at noobs for leaving their airplane somewhere is not the right thing to do
Dizzy Banjo: its mega useful
Torley Linden: Thanks Dizzy! :-)
aliceinwire Bleac: respect other resident
Chase Marellan: that's part of ettiquette,t hough
Torley Linden: I know it had been requested for many weeks, so I had to do it eventually.
Dizzy Banjo: i really hope it engages more people with the Jira
Pinky Ebbage: Of course you cannot force people, but I've created an alt and have been IM'ed immediately with messages of sexual desire in orientation village, some see it as this, others see it as a social place, etc, you cannot change people's personalities
Chase Marellan: not shouting at newbies, I mean
Laetizia Coronet: I fear that people will take the etiquette and use it as a rule book to throw at each other
Torley Linden: Yeah, jerks will always be jerks... but some people don't know the guidelines/rules and come off like jerks, simply because they aren't aware.
Torley Linden: Dizzy: I hope so too. :D
Chase Marellan: Torley: true
Laetizia Coronet: Torley, if i want to do a survey among Lindens, it's best to.... e-mail? notecard? IM?
Torley Linden: Like, there are some specific things which are unique to SL... others which are more Internet-general... e.g., CAPS IS SHOUTING.
Chase Marellan: Laetizia: not that people should be sanctioned for bad ettiquette, just that they should know what good ettiquete is
Laetizia Coronet: ehi my ear! lol
Chase Marellan: :)
Dizzy Banjo: hahaha "this doesnt tell me much.. therefore its CRAP! ill delete it!"
Laetizia Coronet: Chase, people learn that, or not
Torley Linden: Laetizia: Hmmm you would likely need to contact Catherine Linden (Director of Marketing).
aliceinwire Bleac: http://mobie.jp/view.cgi?id=2639&btnsearch=search
Dizzy Banjo: brilliant.. lol
Laetizia Coronet: Torley, hm, marketing?
Laetizia Coronet: it is for a blog, nothing serious
Torley Linden: Marketing/PR, related to getting opinions from Lindens.
Chase Marellan: Laetizia: eventually, but it would be great to give people a foothold so they're not lost in the wildreness, so to speak
Pinky Ebbage: Caps is shouting, always has been to me, since I've been on social boards, for the last 20+ years, before organized internet, back when Compuserve was the only thing
Torley Linden: We currently have a new unified Communication Policy underway and she asked that stuff like that be sent to her. :)
Laetizia Coronet: blaaaagh
Torley Linden: Laetizia: If you disagree with that too, you can let her know why.
Torley Linden: She's friendly! =)
Laetizia Coronet: forget it, I want to do a little human interest, not a corporate slick story
Randal Kline: lol
Chase Marellan: torley: "she" would be...?
Torley Linden: I can give you my off-the-cuff opinion here as long as it's something I'm informed about... I can't talk about my ignorance!
Torley Linden: Chase: Catherine Linden.
Chase Marellan: ty
Torley Linden: ^_^
Torley Linden: "We cannot achieve what we do not know."
Laetizia Coronet: I belino Torley it is a short survey, some questions, nothing which asks an opinion evenj
Randal Kline: >_<
Laetizia Coronet: hm that came out borked
Dizzy Banjo has always wondered where that SL log in screen image was taken....
Torley Linden: Laetizia: Part of the reason why we (Linden Lab) have been moving in this direction is because of inconsistent info that got out there... you know how Lindens get misquoted and their words get spliced up and misinterpreted, and then controversy erupts, etc. I don't want to sound overcautious but I don't like being paraphrased badly myself (it's happened a number of times, personally).
Harleen Gretzky: Catherine has Office Hours too on Thursday's at 10 AM
Randal Kline: i am interested to find out who are those in this pic(http://secondlife.com/forums/images/hdr_avs.jpg)
Torley Linden: Even if you have an AWESOME survey with the BEST of intentions. =D
Pinky Ebbage: Ohh, Torley, I've always followed your Tips of the Week, and enjoyed them greatly, I love em! just wanted to say that :-)
Torley Linden: Thanks so much Pinky!
Pinky Ebbage smiles
Pinky Ebbage: You're very welcome
Laetizia Coronet: I understand that but i hate corporatism.. it's like everyone's in a cramp.
Torley Linden: Randal: I know some of them... on the left, Obscuro Valkyrie, then Marcos Fonzarelli. On the far right, Aimee Weber. The green-haired girl and pink-top girl I don't know.
Laetizia Coronet: I work on my own for a very good reason
Torley Linden: Laetizia: What are some examples of successful companies you think have good, un-corporatey communication?
Laetizia Coronet: I have no idea
Pinky Ebbage: Don't ask me, I work for AT&T, I will say that, ack!
Pinky Ebbage: Oh my
Isabell Ewing: the army ?
Torley Linden: I know part of the problem here are legal issues, which I'm not an expert in... but with Lindens being quoted by irresponsible "press" (which ends up hurting casual questioning), it's important to be consistent for a reason.
Laetizia Coronet: "Success" should not *always* be the reasonj for doing or not doing something.
Pinky Ebbage nods to Torley
Randal Kline: thx torley. 3 down, 3 to go
Laetizia Coronet: Sometimes, especially in this "game", you need to be just a bunch of humans
Torley Linden: Laetizia: Well, I mentioned "successful" because presumably, successful communication is good communication.
Torley Linden: :)
Torley Linden: Randal: 3 of what? :)
Laetizia Coronet: ha no... you said succesful *companhy* which is something else
Torley Linden: I know each person has their own personality... not everyone will go crazy like me... I hope I never have to clamp down on that here!
Torley Linden: Laetizia: A successful company with successful communication, then. :-)
Randal Kline: the avatars in the pic
Moard Ling: iarent all succesful comaopniues run like dictatorships ?
Torley Linden: Randal: O yeah.
Pinky Ebbage: Ohh, Torley, I love your personality
Pinky Ebbage smiles
Torley Linden: Moard: Well, here's where it gets tricky...
Moard Ling: communction is soemthign ionvented by managemtnn to keep engineeers in check
Laetizia Coronet: succesful communication? The NSDAP
Torley Linden: Adobe, which is one of the most well-known computer companies... I don't know what their internal rules on communication are, but they have some awfully candid blogs.
Torley Linden: http://blogs.adobe.com/
Torley Linden: John Nack, for example.
Laetizia Coronet: that's good
Torley Linden: And Russell Brown is TOTALLY my video tutorial inspiration!
Torley Linden: He's so lively. And Adobe hasn't turned him into a mindless sock puppet.
Randal Kline: better to go thru proper channel(s), even if you manage to send the surveys to the lindens, most likely they wont be filling them
Torley Linden: http://russellbrown.com/
Laetizia Coronet: and Robin Linden told me last year already that "lawyers" had decided something. pot the difference
Laetizia Coronet: *Spot
Pinky Ebbage: We have absolutely no communications within our own company where I work
Pinky Ebbage sighs
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/17702
Torley Linden: We've had some bad experiences lately with "SL tabloids" where Linden quotes were HORRIBLY mangled. I hate when that happens to me, and they really do spoil the fun for good people.
aliceinwire Bleac: torley how you can put photo in flickr when you are in the meeting session O_O you have 4 hand ???
Pinky Ebbage nods
Laetizia Coronet: anyway I ned to communicate with my translation here... I guess i won't survey or mail it to Lindens individually
Torley Linden: That's why I don't reply to most of those requests myself now, it's a waste of time and an unpleasant experience.
Moard Ling: why aren all quotes given in world
Moard Ling: in inworld press confercnes
Moard Ling: publish the vid
Laetizia Coronet: I only quote straight from history, with context
Torley Linden: *nods to Laetizia* Even if you mail it individually though, it's likely one or more will, as I have, get the attention of our Marketing/PR to check if it's okay to answer it.
Randal Kline: alicewire:you are right. maybe more hands
Laetizia Coronet: anyway this is to be anonymous
Torley Linden: aliceinwire: Oh, I have a keyboard shortcut for that...
aliceinwire Bleac: i know that he have 2 monitors or more but not that he have 4 hand
Pinky Ebbage only wants to build and do animations
aliceinwire Bleac: also windows want make her photo format
aliceinwire Bleac: wmp
Torley Linden: Sorry about that, I crashz0red!
Laetizia Coronet: Torley was pulled out by the marketing people lol
aliceinwire Bleac: if i remember correct
Torley Linden: Oh no, not a conspiracy!
Torley Linden: Hahaha.
Pinky Ebbage: wb, Torley
aliceinwire Bleac: windows say that is lot better of jpg
Pinky Ebbage smiles
aliceinwire Bleac: and only for windows user lol
Laetizia Coronet: anyway, thanks for your time, arrivederci everyone!
Torley Linden: Thanks for your concerns, Laetizia!
Pinky Ebbage: Take care, Laetizia
Randal Kline: take care
Pinky Ebbage smiles
Torley Linden: I like how we can send big postcards now...
Torley Linden: I remember when that wasn't so...
Moard Ling: Always judge a comnpany by its canteen
aliceinwire Bleac: torley you use the jpg client patch?
Torley Linden: several Lindens, including Zen, fixed that.
Torley Linden: aliceinwire: No, I don't.
Pinky Ebbage grins to Moard
Torley Linden: But I'm looking forward to being able to save snapshots in PNG.
Torley Linden: This BMP stuff is shamefully wasteful.
aliceinwire Bleac: and what you do so ???
Dizzy Banjo: yeh png would be lovely
aliceinwire Bleac: you put it in bmp on flickr?
Torley Linden: aliceinwire, right now, I email to Flickr... via http://www.slbuzz.com
Dizzy Banjo: my pic archive is insanely big
Torley Linden: They have a crossposting service.
Torley Linden: Dizzy: Aye... when I have time, I'm gonna run a batch script...
Dizzy Banjo notes to do a batch convert soon...
Torley Linden: gonna compress all the BMPs I have on HD...
Torley Linden: I just got a new 1 TB hard drive at a good price...
Dizzy Banjo: lol great minds Torley.. great minds.. lol
Torley Linden: I'm going to archive my video tutorial (the original work files) on there...
Torley Linden: GMTA indeed!
Pinky Ebbage: Omg, I don't think I have enough to fill that large of a HD
Pinky Ebbage grins
Torley Linden: Video files, even compressed ones, really start eating up gigabytes of space.
Torley Linden: And with hard drives getting so jumbo and cheaper and cheaper, I can't help but expand my storage!
Kade Hudson: Hi everyone :)
Pinky Ebbage: Heya, Kade
Moard Ling: Jumbo where
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: Like they say, to move forward, you must backup. :)
Torley Linden: Hiya Kade!
Kade Hudson: Hi Pinky! Hi Torley!
Dizzy Banjo: yeh my sound library pretty scary too.. its across 4 PCs with loads of externals.. i havent ever counted how big it is..
Torley Linden: I like the 1up mushrooms. :)
Dizzy Banjo: hehe yeh
Torley Linden: Those are cute, I can hear those Super Mario SFX right now.
Torley Linden: Oh wow Dizzy.
Torley Linden: That sounds quite vast.
Dizzy Banjo: they are created by Zrephel Tokugawa
Moard Ling: Was Yoshi multi coloured or was it a family
Dizzy Banjo: i really like his stuff
Dizzy Banjo: i think there was a family
Torley Linden: I always thought it was a family...
Torley Linden: at least from the sequels.
Moard Ling: stopped at super famicom
Dizzy Banjo: Yoshi's Island has the most insane music in it in any game
aliceinwire Bleac: torley
aliceinwire Bleac: so you send snapshot ???
Dizzy Banjo: i swear it will actually make you go insane
aliceinwire Bleac: you have lotmoney to trash
aliceinwire Bleac: or for you is free
Torley Linden: aliceinwire, that's right... I send a postcard from the viewer to SLBuzz, which then processes it and sends it to Flickr with tags.
Moard Ling: teh roginal gameboy always has awesoem music
Moard Ling: batman ...
Torley Linden: I like the Contra 4 (on Nintendo DS) music.
Torley Linden: It's seriously rockin'.
Torley Linden: Great takes on the old tunes and new ones too!
Moard Ling: Turrican
aliceinwire Bleac: so for linden is free?
Torley Linden: aliceinwire: Yes, sending a postcard is free. L$0!
Torley Linden: Turrican and other Amiga classics, oh how I like them.
Isabell Ewing: carbon crashed; =expected: she should not crash
Pinky Ebbage: Oh really, Torley?
Torley Linden: *wants to see more cool Flycam videos*
Dizzy Banjo: im doing music for an xbox trailer at the mo for a thing called *EDIT* removed to avoid potential client confusion!**
Torley Linden: Pinky: "Oh really" to what? =)
Isabell Ewing: i´m able to learn :-)
Pinky Ebbage: The postcards
Torley Linden: Explode + Demon? :)
Pinky Ebbage: Never tried that
Torley Linden: Nice portmanteau.
Torley Linden: Yes, Pinky.
Pinky Ebbage: Thank you :-)
Dizzy Banjo: hes a fun character... he thinks he is saving the world.. but is actually destroying it.. lol
Torley Linden: HAHAHAHAH.
Torley Linden: That's the kind of irony I like!
Moard Ling: like Primevil series 2
Torley Linden: I like games where you get to play the villains too.
aliceinwire Bleac: for me is 10L$ is not right :(
Moard Ling: yeah i agree AiW
Torley Linden: Oh, it's been good... and it's also the end of my office hour and I have to go, but I'll be back here at 2 PM PST. Thanks each and all for coming!
Moard Ling: you can get a partner for that
Torley Linden: aliceinwire, make sure "Send a postcard" is selected.
Pinky Ebbage: For me, I vote for being able to take a slice of that watermelon, hmmm :-)
Pinky Ebbage: But I cannot :-)
Harleen Gretzky: tc Torley
Dizzy Banjo: :) take care Torley :) gimme a shout about that thing any time thats convenient
Isabell Ewing: bye torley
Torley Linden: Mmmm. I wish these were freely distributable, the ones on the box in the middle.
Carbon Sirbu: bb Torley
Pinky Ebbage: Take care, Torley, nice to meet you!
Pinky Ebbage smiles
Torley Linden: Dizzy: I hope to learn more soon... I need to unswamp myself from *CRUSHING LOAD* of work this week! Thanx for the heads-up!
Moard Ling: witrh Midora
Dizzy Banjo: cool
Torley Linden: Take care all, byebye!

2 PM

Torley Linden: Oh my gosh I'm here!
Kooky Jetaime: then you won't be able to hear yourself think
Kooky Jetaime: oh wait
Kooky Jetaime: she's here
Kooky Jetaime: nevermind
Torley Linden: I'm not late am I? :)
Torley Linden: Hehe!
Marianne McCann: Well, you asked for watermelon, you got iy, Kooky
Kooky Jetaime: he's
Torley Linden: I'm too human today!
Torley Linden: Hi everyone!
Marianne McCann: Hey Torley!
Marianne McCann: I was tellin Kooky dat these seats have got to be the worst camping chairs ever
Torley Linden: Glad to see ya all here already!
Torley Linden: Hahahahaha.
Torley Linden: Oh that is TOO FUNNEH.
Marianne McCann smiles
Kooky Jetaime: You know Torley
Kooky Jetaime: I think that SL will be the downfall of the English Language.
Kooky Jetaime: IRC has /nothing/ on SL
Marianne McCann: Kooky - really?
Al Sonic: Well at least we'll have Americans learning to use Meters...
Kooky Jetaime: darn touch sits
Torley Linden: Hahahaha.
Marianne McCann scratches the link to the place with the cuddle bunneys off her list of LMs to dump
Kooky Jetaime: meter.. 3 feet
Torley Linden: Those left-click actions, OH SNAP!
Kooky Jetaime: close enough
Torley Linden: Hehe Mari, what else ya got that's kewl? Ravie got me this bunneh... so ADORABLE.
Marianne McCann: I'll hafta check my LM folder... an ya, those is cuuute
Marianne McCann: Spended most of the week building, not splorin for a change
Torley Linden: *nods*
Al Sonic: Wow... eine kleine kaninchen... sehr suss...
Torley Linden: I need more splorin' time, work has been crazy busy, even moreso in the last week... I'm becoming a resource 'round LL to do more video tutorials so there's a good chance that in the future, in addition to Tip of the Week, I'll be doing other series.
Torley Linden: I wish I could speak more languages too!
Marianne McCann: Wow.. that will keep ya hoppin
Torley Linden: Harleen, did you attend Science Friday today?
Al Sonic has his random moments he practices his German.
Marianne McCann: I still need to watch the latest
Torley Linden: It would be nice to focus on vidtuts more...
Marianne McCann: I also hadda do MacWorld this week. Shame LL dun have a presence there!
Harleen Gretzky: Sure did, great show. Prospero and Green were there
Torley Linden: Awesome. What were the topics?
Harleen Gretzky: A lot of astonaomy ones today, which I love, like teh messenger mission to Mercury
Kooky Jetaime: Yep, love those MESSENGER photos
Torley Linden: Astronomy makes me think of Carl Sagan...
Torley Linden: the Cosmos!
Marianne McCann: Gotta love Sagan
Sougent Harrop: Grew up with him
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - Cosmos is reairing on The Science Channel
Kooky Jetaime: if you have digi cable, Tuesdays, at 9 I think
Torley Linden: Oh is it? I don't really watch TV nor do I have that channel but thanks for the tip!
Marianne McCann: Cosmos the show ended up influencing me musically. Got into Vangelins thanks to it
Sougent Harrop: My high school science teacher made us watch
Torley Linden: I may get Cosmos via NetFlix.
Sougent Harrop: I have the DVD's
Sougent Harrop: lol, a fanatic
Squirrel Wood: rezrezrez
Marianne McCann giggles
Torley Linden: Sougent, thanks a lot for your comments on the vidtut ideas page too, I am going to take a closer look at followup on those.
Marianne McCann: Nice skates, Birdie
Bridie Linden: Ty!
Kooky Jetaime: Hi Bridie :)
Harleen Gretzky: Hi Bridie
Torley Linden: Heya Bridie!
Bridie Linden: Hi Kooky, Harleen, Squirrel!
Torley Linden: Great to see ya here... the skates are looking gr8.
Juko Tempel: hiya
Sougent Harrop: Those two debug settings are very useful. Especially the folders one
Cymond Blackburn: hi Torley! have see your vids they are really good
Squirrel Wood: Hellu ^^
Marianne McCann loves them Moopf Murray skates
Harleen Gretzky: Rob and Soft were looking for comments on movies in SL at the Open Source meeting
Torley Linden: Sougent: *nod* I'd imagine so... I've been thinking doing a "REALLY SHORT TIPS" series that could be done in 1-2 min. ... had some suggestions from folks who were following Apple's tip of the week podcast...
Squirrel's Fortune Cookie: Here's some wisdom for you:
Squirrel's Fortune Cookie: Misquotation is -- Hesketh Pearson, "Common Misquotations"
Torley Linden: Some Debug Settings would be ideal for that.
Juko Tempel agrees
Marianne McCann: oh ya
Sougent Harrop: Yes, I imagine there are a few taht would be good to know
Torley Linden: And BTW, for anyone who hasn't seen it yet... https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden/Vidtut_ideas
Torley Linden: That's what I was referring to, where Sougent commented.
Marianne McCann: cool
Marianne McCann: AN thanks for the tip on doin yer own wiki pages, too
Squirrel's Fortune Cookie: Here's some wisdom for you:
Squirrel's Fortune Cookie: If it pours before seven, it has rained by eleven.
Torley Linden: And Sougent, re: "New User Packs", the NUE Team has been discussing how to better do our registration flow... Lindens like Jesse are working on that.
Juko Tempel: yeah i'm about to run mentor classes on that
Juko Tempel: nice timing lol
Torley Linden: Oh, excellent! What else have you been teaching recently, Juko?
Sougent Harrop: I'd love to get a chance to catch their office hour, but it's hard to do....but new user packs would be helpful, I think.
Juko Tempel: i haven't yet.. just starting lol
Squirrel Wood: One thing for new users: start them out with an empty inventory (hide the library) and unlock the parts of the library as they complete or start specific tutorials ?
Juko Tempel: but debug menu is a possibility
Torley Linden: Squirrel: There's an idea... and, we gotta remove some useless old stuff from the Library too.
Torley Linden: "Library" the name itself has caused some historical confusion.
Juko Tempel: and put some decent clothes in it lol
Al Sonic: It has?
Torley Linden: Yes, there's a general misunderstanding that the Library contains... help.
Squirrel Wood: Oh yes. The library needs an update :)
Sougent Harrop: The problem with the library is taht one doesn't think to look there after say the first week or so
Torley Linden: Which it does to *some* degree.
Torley Linden: And it's not eminently discoverable, as Sougent points out.
Juko Tempel: a very small degree lol
Torley Linden: There's also that "HELP!" notecard which is gonna get deleted soon...
Torley Linden: =)
Torley Linden: that's a nice little piece of cleanup.
Kooky Jetaime: Torley
Sougent Harrop: And there is actually some good stuff in there, like the waterfall /water textures and scripts
Juko Tempel: it does have some nice surprises :-)
Rex Cronon: hello everybody
Bridie Linden: There's a seat for ya Rex...
Kooky Jetaime: Can there be some work put in to expand the library? More objects, scripts, etc...
Torley Linden: Sougent: Yeah, I imagine if some of that was updated/expanded it'd be great.
Torley Linden: Examples really help people get started, to connect the dots.
Marianne McCann: Sougent - ya, I already head to it for textures. Like the Atoll set
Rex Cronon: thinks, i am waiting for thing to rezz, is still see gray people:)
Marianne McCann: Good basics
Torley Linden: We had suggestions long ago to make the Library a networkable freebie store... Adam Zaius had a vision of this in... 2005 I think. But that didn't come to pass.
Juko Tempel: yep
Kooky Jetaime: Hobo city had a ton of open source stuff, all that would be great to add to the Library.... LL could even go through clean and optimize the code
Sougent Harrop: One thing that I didn't like about the water stuff is it ddn't say how to use it, and there is an apparent scheme to using them.
Al Sonic: Yeah too bad about that.
Torley Linden: Part of the problem is the functional disconnect between what's inworld and what's in your inventory.
Torley Linden: For example, no visual preview for inventory objects unless they're rezzed.
Juko Tempel: aah
Juko Tempel: good point
Torley Linden: My understanding is that this is non-trivial and very, very hard to rearchitecture well.
Marianne McCann: ya. THat's always a challenge
Juko Tempel: pics maybe?
Torley Linden: I know some folks have done clever things like temp rezzers... if we could better associate pictures with objects, that might be an idea...
Sougent Harrop: Here's an idea, take the library from the inventory and create an in world library where people could go and get the stuff
Juko Tempel: not always possible
Marianne McCann: Even some way the user could attach a JPG to an item or someting
Torley Linden: I know right now, some folks put textures of objects in folders with them. Clothes and outfits you buy is a common example of this.
Juko Tempel: yeah very useful
Juko Tempel: especially in ahem big inventories
Juko Tempel: lol
Kooky Jetaime can't help but think of the Construct program...
Torley Linden: Haha Kooky, that is an excellent visual.
Al Sonic: Hm. How great it would be to have an image preview right in the Properties window.
Torley Linden: I liked the scene with white backdrop and all those weapons whizzing past.
Marianne McCann: Oh ya, Al. Jes,... somewhere
Torley Linden: Al, I concur. Sorta like how for Profiles, you can see a picture in there.
Sougent Harrop: How greate would it be to be able to search on more of the properties of itmes in inventory
Juko Tempel: yeah more info space in Properties would be good
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - how hard would it be t oreally make an 3D visualizer?
Torley Linden: Yeah Sougent!
Sougent Harrop: An advanced search, create date, owner, creator
Marianne McCann: I'd even like wildcards in search there, too
Juko Tempel gave you SLASS Promo.
Torley Linden: Kooky: Depends what you mean by "3D visualizer"?
Kooky Jetaime: Its all locally rendered anyways. Just request the object params from the asset server, open a black (or white) window, and render the object.
Al Sonic: Client-side rezzing sorta?
Sougent Harrop: Kind of like the texture upload does for stuff
Kooky Jetaime: Its all client side really
Guen Shan: hi *mews*
Torley Linden: I don't know how easy that would be to do.
Torley Linden: Hiya Guen!
Rex Cronon: hi
Harleen Gretzky: What's a 3-d Visualizer?
Juko Tempel: take a seat Mono
Kooky Jetaime: But instead of rendering the object in the active world from the server stream, it would be a client side server stream.
Marianne McCann: Hiya
Torley Linden: I do think spinning around a 3D preview would be more useful than a picture (which can't cover all angles adequately).
Mono Flow: Already sitting. XD
Kooky Jetaime: Harleen - a random conglomeration of words to make me sound like I know what I'm talking about.
Sougent Harrop: Well, when you upload a texture such as a sculptie or a clothing item, the dropdown allows you to see a repersentation of it.
Rex Cronon: a window in which u can preview the objects from your inventory
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - it shouldn't be hard at all, considering the entire SL window is a 3D render anyways.
Torley Linden: Kooky: Do you think there are any security implications?
Al Sonic: How easy that would be to implement, of course depends whether there's something that the viewer would be doing that it's used to having the sim do for it.
Kooky Jetaime: No
Juko Tempel: ok sorry my bad view lol
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - Why would there be? Your getting the same information from the asset server that you receieve if you render it in the active world, or in the side box.
Torley Linden: Hehe Squirrel, I like the "Yayzerama".
Squirrel Wood: ^^
Torley Linden: Kooky: Just checkin'! Often with "it sounds like a great idea!", all too often, there's downside(s) that aren't initially considered.
Torley Linden: Haha Squirrel, too fun.
Torley Linden: Like Kooky, for example... a resource request throttle...
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - if anything one might consider it more secure, as you don't necessarilly need to cache the information, as once its closed it won't be needed anymore
Squirrel Wood gave you Prim Chatter manual.
Torley Linden: since I'd imagine some folks would try to preview things repeatedly.
Torley Linden: Thanks for the info-notecard, Squirrel.
Kooky Jetaime: May make 3D previews of selling objects more.... appealing if the client doesn't cache anything.
Squirrel Wood: ^^
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - seems that it would take less resources directly requesting from the asset server than it takes to repeatedly rez objects.
Torley Linden: I know some folks have tried to get around prim limits before and "preview" things via temp-rezzers but aggregate usage of that can be harsh on region performance, especially with complex and many-primmed objects.
Torley Linden: So I was just curious.
Torley Linden: I don't know technically how taxing the "3D visualizer" you suggest might be, Kooky... it does sound like it'd be wayyyy convenient.
Kooky Jetaime: And how much do resources really occupy, a few Kb for the prim specs, textures are more intensive but you could also have an option for 3-D only preview (no textures)
Kooky Jetaime: I know sometimes just being able to see an object, even if just the raw prims would be useful.
Torley Linden: *nod* That's a good point.
Juko Tempel: especially if they're still called 'object' lol
Rex Cronon: i think the idea of having pictures associated with objets, is a good one, as the pictures can be stored in the local cache
Torley Linden: Rex, hmmm... there was someone a little while ago who tried to make an offline inventory viewer...
Torley Linden: I forget who that was, tho.
Squirrel Wood wants bigger local cache actually
Torley Linden: And I think they included an option to have pictures linked with inv. items.
Kooky Jetaime: Squirrel - I would just be happy with a Cache that actually worked..
Squirrel Wood: cache right now is limited to 1.5 gbyte or so
Torley Linden: The cache doesn't seem very persistent.
Rex Cronon: and, what happened with that?
Harleen Gretzky: Eddy Styker is currently working on one with libSL
Kooky Jetaime: Squirrel - the cache size is probably big enough, its just that it doesn't work.
Sougent Harrop: I have thate viewer Torley
Torley Linden: Been awhile since I looked at Eddy's work!
Kooky Jetaime: And I don't think anyones really worked on the cache lately have they Torley?
Rex Cronon: u can restrict the image size to 64x64
Torley Linden: Not to my knowledge, Kooky.
Torley Linden: Last Linden I actually asked about it was Steve.
Torley Linden: Oh thanks to Yeah Iwish for pointing out to me the inventory viewer I was referring to: http://shop.onrez.com/item/322204
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/17713
Torley Linden: By Seneca Taliaferro.
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - I was at a store awhile back, drew the entire building, had everything on screen, rezzed, etc, so presumably in my cache. (Maxed out for size). I teleported home for 2 minutes, and returned to the same part of the store I was in and was looking at Grey boxes for over 10 minutes.
Squirrel Wood: 17,000+ textures in my cache.. yet loading takes an eternity and a half
Kooky Jetaime: All that should have been in the cache.
Kooky Jetaime: but it was redownloading everything.
Sougent Harrop: http://code.google.com/p/slmiv/
Sougent Harrop: Comes with code too
Torley Linden: Feels slow to retrieve too...
Torley Linden: (Referring to the cache.)
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - I've sometimes wondered if its even polling the cache.
Torley Linden: Kooky, I've had similar experience.
Bridie Linden hmmms
Torley Linden: I've had times where I thought to myself, "No way it could've downloaded enough data to exceed the cache limit! Why's it all gray again?"
Torley Linden: What do you think, Bridie? =)
Squirrel Wood: I have seen it happen that an object emitted particles with a given texture for a couple seconds, then stopped for a bit, then emitted particles again - with grey texture for about 2-3 seconds before the proper texture was shown.
Kooky Jetaime: Not to mention when you TP into frequently visited sims, and half of the prims are missing
Sougent Harrop: Speaking of texutres,it'd be nice if sculptie textures had priority on download
lufpleh Obstreperous: lots of people noticing its a greyer world for longer these days
Torley Linden: Kooky: This reminds me of a time where some folks requested a way to "freeze" certain scenes so that they were always cached.
Juko Tempel: nicely put lufpleh :-)
Squirrel Wood: the whole cache needs a serious overhaul
Marianne McCann: True Sougent. That way I'd see, for example, Torley's hat
Cymond Blackburn: can somone learn me a littlebit Script?
Sougent Harrop: I can't go anywhere without having to "force" teh pictures to rez
Torley Linden: And by the way, the new Orientation Island sort of does this... most of the textures are included in the viewer.
Squirrel Wood: especially since the client has to hunt down the split up texture files in the cache
Kooky Jetaime: I think I've come up with a way to speed up redrawing a sim even on arrival after logout, provided the cache does work.
Torley Linden: Which is why the OI HUD should load faster.
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - Can anyone confirm that the OI hud is loading faster?
Torley Linden: Squirrel: It makes me wonder if a bigger cache would only be slower that way, since there's more to hunt through?
Juko Tempel: which would help a lot
Rex Cronon: btw, talking about sculpties. i qarl ok? he hasn't had any office hours in a while
Torley Linden: Kooky: I think our OI Team (awhile ago) did. I haven't verified myself.
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - and could someone post a SL download link that does not contain the OI cache stuff.. IT knocks like 6M+ off the download.
Torley Linden: Rex: Last I checked he was; have you IMed him?
Torley Linden: Kooky: I wish we had smaller patchers!
Squirrel Wood: textures are split into a header and data portion. the data portion is easy to find but the headers are all stored in one big file which gets a bit chaotic and disorganized after some time
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - I think they need a whole new installer.. I'm tired of having to delete the SL shortcut on my desktop.
Mono Flow: Finally, my avatar is all patched up.
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: Kooky: I remember seeing an Issue Tracker request that asked to make that shortcut an option.
Torley Linden: I know most apps on NSIS do that, eh?
Squirrel Wood: I might just go and write up a wiki page about an updater system that would work well with SL ^^
Kooky Jetaime: torley - why doesn't SL switch to MSI like most other programs?
Kooky Jetaime: I know tis a sin to mention MS anything but...
Cymond Blackburn: Thx Romeo Donovan
Torley Linden: Kooky: Not sure why exactly offhand. But a general hope that's been carried around is that we make the firsttime process (from registration to installing the viewer) a lot easier.
Torley Linden: Therefore, if we can simplify anything to benefit many newcomers while not majorly off-putting veteran Residents, that's good.
Mono Flow: Because new resis have feelings too. :D
Torley Linden: It's a tricky balance because I've observed the divide at time, e.g., someone very advanced and skilled says "Add more options! Make more checkboxes!" but they fail to consider a new Resi would be puzzled and bewildered by SO MANY CHOICES.
Torley Linden: Aye Mono.
Torley Linden: We were all new once.
Mono Flow: Yep.
Squirrel Wood: basic / advanced layout / UI => you switch when you think you're ready ;)
Torley Linden: I'm fond of including more esoteric options like Debug Settings so those who want it enough can still get there without much trouble.
Torley Linden: Squirrel, yes, or something like that.
Juko Tempel nods good thinking
Torley Linden: "If you don't need these yet, don't see 'em!"
Sougent Harrop: The key is to add the extra functionality but present a simple interface to begine with.....which is why the Client menu is nice
Juko Tempel: exactly
Kooky Jetaime: Anyways, my idea for "faster loading" sims refers to persistent objects. Have a SIM send any new users a list of all rezzed prims. Since you will have in a cache all the prims, your system can just rez everything it alread has.
Sougent Harrop: Or "advanceed" buttones
Kooky Jetaime: Squirrel - are you talking about my Advanced jira? 2438 I believe
Torley Linden: Some programs have a single master "Advanced" button in the Preferences...
Torley Linden: which enables advanced stuff across the whole app.
Marianne McCann: Kinda like the "more" in build, maybe?
Sougent Harrop: The Windlight setings are good....
Squirrel Wood: sims do that to a point already for anything that has been rezzed for more than three weeks or so
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Guen Shan: meow ニャ~♪
Mono Flow: The More button is my friend.
Torley Linden: I know some video encoders are like this. Video encoding is one of those areas where it's very hard to get right for a newcomer — to arm them with powerful presets that aren't too dumbed down.
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - VWR-2438
Sougent Harrop: My biggest issue with rezzing is the textures
Kooky Jetaime: 10 votes so far.
Marianne McCann: Mine too, Mono
Torley Linden: Sougent, aye, how WindLight is done may set a precedent for other UI conventions.
Squirrel Wood can bring a sim to run 4 million script instructions per second ^^
Sougent Harrop: The objects rezz fairly quickly, assuming the sim is good, but textures.......
Torley Linden: Kooky, thanks. It'd be a big project, but I think, making the UI more dynamic that way (and we are cleaning up related code this quarter to improve usability/accessibility) would be a big boon.
Bridie Linden: Kooky, Squirrel re: gray boxes/long delays loading...are you able to repro consistently?
Squirrel Wood: or the other way round: I can make scripts run slower ;)
Bridie Linden: we do indeed poll the cache
Kooky Jetaime: Bridie - I havn't tried to reproduce lately but I could try
Squirrel Wood: gray boxes/long loading times: Yes. Happens every day
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - I started working on remapping the entire menu system into something more... structured.
Kooky Jetaime: but I abanonded it from lack of motivation......
Torley Linden: Kooky: You got bored with it?
Bridie Linden: Kooky/Squirrel - is there a PJIRA filed?
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - yep :) give me a minute to find the file
Torley Linden: If so, I understand... we've had some internal experiments to that effect but they weren't completed either.
Squirrel Wood: also when you ctrl-shift-3 to see the texture loading you see only few being fetched from the cache... most look to be streamed from the sim
Object: Hello, Avatar!
Al Sonic has his Firefox browser set up to automatically go to the JIRA page when he enters, say, "SVC 123" or "VWR 1234".
Mono Flow: Someone's object said hello to me. :D
Torley Linden: Hehehe.
Torley Linden: Al, me too! Do you do a Quicksearch or something else?
Squirrel Wood: You should say hello back then ;)
Sougent Harrop: And when you look at the texture loading, even though everything you see is loaded, that sucker is still downloding stuff , what is it downloading the entire SIM?
Al Sonic: yea that.
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - lot me send you a notecard.. its the new layout (as much as I've gotten so far), but it still needs to be translated to the XML
Mono Flow 's patasol talks...but only to Mono.
Torley Linden: Quicksearches are BELOVED.
Mono Flow: parasol
Juko Tempel: lol
Object: Hello, Avatar!
Kooky Jetaime gave you Menu Redesign - Kooky Jetaime.
Torley Linden: Thanks Kooky!
Torley Linden: Ambitious task, this is.
Mono Flow: Hey, Torley, why did you get rid of the music here?
Sougent Harrop: In one instance when watching textures download, I'v e noticed occasions when one seems to "hang" Even when I'm cammed in to it to make it dowload.
Kooky Jetaime: Well, the current menu sounds completly.. tossed up
Squirrel Wood: I can hear music
Kooky Jetaime: Its a pinano
Kooky Jetaime: piano
Torley Linden: Mono, I was testing bugs... there should still be parcel loops but I removed the MP3 because I'm playing video tutorials here.
Al Sonic: So... I actually like Windlight's glow so much that I decided to go into Debug Settings and toy with it... I discovered RenderGlowMinLuminance, and have it now set to .996.
Mono Flow: Ah, makes sense, yes.
Torley Linden: (I was looking for an easy way to load all my video tutorial URLs into a kiosk of sorts and change between them.)
Torley Linden: Al: That's great for wedding photography!
Juko Tempel: that would be very very useful lol
Torley Linden: Ha ha ha!
Torley Linden: Some of my other faves... http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden/Debug_Settings
Juko Tempel: did you figure that out Torley? the rotating videos?
Torley Linden: If you have any faves that I should make a video about, let me know!
Sougent Harrop: There is a free TV that has channels based on a website
Object: Hello, Avatar!
Torley Linden: Juko: Not yet... I previously played with FreeView and some others but haven't looked at them closely recently.
Mono Flow: You just make a video about the stuff in the Object tab.
Torley Linden: Maybe I should revisit that. :)
Juko Tempel: that might work Sougent
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - Part of my advanced (2438) involves moving stuff out of the debug menus.... Debugs should be just that, debug options..anything that mainline users use and need should be in the main menus.
Sougent Harrop: Freeview...
Mono Flow: Or maybe even the whole More menu period.
Torley Linden: Kooky: Yes, over time there've been a few very useful things which've migrated... like Force Sun. :)
Torley Linden: *remembers when Force Sun was in Client menu, then-Debug... before Richard moved it out*
Sougent Harrop: The freeview TV and webstie would work for your tutorials
Juko Tempel: great for newbies and a Mentors resource too, if we could rotate throught them easily
Kooky Jetaime: Rebake should be moved...
Torley Linden: Sougent: I'd need to setup a custom playlist, do you remember if it can do that? I'll inspect closer later... thanks.
Mono Flow: Where's the commericals?
Marianne McCann: Kooky = ya, I've noticed that lately too. Or having to relog twice after a failed one
Al Sonic: *looks over debug faves* oh yeah, DoubleClickAutoPilot has been quite useful when trying to walk while my framerate is suffering.
Sougent Harrop: I would like to be able to log back in after I've been forced to log out without having to restart the viewer
Torley Linden: Pardon, I crashed!
Torley Linden: SL was eating up 1.2 GB of RAM... oh sigh!
Juko Tempel: ouch
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Squirrel Wood: eep
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - new leak?
Marianne McCann: 1.2 GB? Yow
Torley Linden: What did I miss?
Juko Tempel: banning ruth
Juko Tempel: lol
Torley Linden: *wonders what fave Debug Settings I missed*
Sougent Harrop: We solved all your problems for you
Marianne McCann: Banish Ruth to the cornfield!
Juko Tempel: hehe
Kooky Jetaime: Holy Cow.. I've been logged in for hours, and SL is only using 314MB for me!
Torley Linden: Haha, "Damn you Ruth, to the fires of a fate worse than death itself, begone!"
Mono Flow: You should do a video tutorial on the More menu, Torley.
Bridie Linden just learned about Quicksearches
Torley Linden: Kooky, which viewer?
Juko Tempel: that works?
Juko Tempel: lol
Torley Linden: I'm on WindLight... I've had similar problems on RC tho.
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - Nick, BE-v
Torley Linden: Mono: Which "More" menu? :)
Juko Tempel: aah :-) quicksearches are cool
Mono Flow: In Build, sorry. XD
Mono Flow: You know with the General tab, Objects, Features, all that.
Torley Linden: Oh yes. That!
Torley Linden: Awhile back aside from space-saving reasons, I felt there shouldn't even be a "More" tab.
Squirrel Wood: Yay! My stuff won't let me delete it
Torley Linden: Er, button.
Guen Shan: SL always uses around 1GB on my box
Juko Tempel: it wants to stay lol
Torley Linden: You can't even really build without the tabs underneath.
Guen Shan: isn't this normal?
Kooky Jetaime: Guen - SL used to use it...
Al Sonic: Well the only "debug" comment in your absence was my "[14:43] Torley Linden: *looks over debug faves* oh yeah, DoubleClickAutoPilot has been quite useful when trying to walk while my framerate is suffering."
Torley Linden: Guen, you look kind of anime-like!
Torley Linden: Thanks Al!
Kooky Jetaime: but I've been to 3 sims, 4 locale's, and I'm less than 350MB.. I'm impressed
Marianne McCann: I dun even have 1GB
Juko Tempel agrees with Torley.. show them all the time
Torley Linden: I wonder if that would be easier for newcomers.
Torley Linden: Kooky: Hmmm... purty good.
Mono Flow: That's true, but a lot of the new resis don't know about the More button and it's power.
Torley Linden: Mono: That's true.
Sougent Harrop: The more button is useful for getting it out of the way for a bit, but should default open
Torley Linden: Part of the reason why I felt it should be shown all the time is some peeps might never think to click on it.
Torley Linden: Understandable.
Guen Shan: Torly yes i'm an anime catgirl ^^ *mews*
Torley Linden: Yeah, default to open!
Juko Tempel: cool
Mono Flow: Exactly, thus make a video tutorial on it. :D
Torley Linden: Hehe. That WOULD be a good quick tip. *makes a note*
Al Sonic: Yeah Torley has made a few nice vidtuts on building. :)
Juko Tempel: it sticks though, once you've done it once.. makes it a minor point really
Night Hunter Chopper 2.7: Say 'start' to start the engine.
Night Hunter Chopper 2.7: Use mouselook to steer.
Night Hunter Chopper 2.7: Use WASD to fly.
Night Hunter Chopper 2.7: Use Page Up/Page Down to increase/decrease altitude.
Juko Tempel: yeah a very quick one!
Object: Hello, Avatar!
Torley Linden: And if you have any ideas when I'm not around, make sure to add 'em to https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden/Vidtut_ideas , I really appreciate it.
Mono Flow: Mmmk.
Torley Linden: Thanx.
Mono Flow: Of course.
Object: Hello, Avatar!
Torley Linden: There's so much to see and do, learn and teach!
Torley Linden: We cannot achieve what we do not know. :-)
Mono Flow: That there is. There's so many cool features about SL people don't know, even old people now.
Marianne McCann: Meta was sayin today dat there's moren 16k regions now. Dat's amazing to me
Mono Flow: And I show them, they're like "Wgoa, that's freaking maazing.
Mono Flow: Whoa
Sougent Harrop: One has tto get out and about, and poke into things
Torley Linden: Yeah Mono, REALLY good point!
Torley Linden: What are some of your fave examples of that?
Squirrel Wood: The asset server is juggling more than 100 terrabyte of data by now ^^
Torley Linden: I like helping to show off underrated and underexposed features.
Sougent Harrop: Of course, I try menu optiosn I dont' know what will happen with, but hey, no pain, no gain
Mono Flow: Well, actually, a newbie showed me how to cell shade and I never knew about it, heh heh.
Mono Flow: But someone showed her.
Mono Flow: Still.
windindicator: Couldn't find script Sea Yacht Wind Indicator
Marianne McCann: It always amazed me t' tink about how when I started, the grid gorand with more than 10k people on it. Now it could do a Sunday at 61k without failing too badly
Torley Linden: :D
Torley Linden: Ahhh yes those cel shading tricks...
Torley Linden: those look really neat on some avatars.
Kooky Jetaime: I remember dying at 24K
Mono Flow: That they do, thoguh I don't use it.
Mono Flow: I should though.
Marianne McCann: NO!
Marianne McCann: Kooky - ya, I remember "oh We hit 13k! Batten down the hatches!"
Kooky Jetaime: heh
Juko Tempel: i saw a teeny weeny tiny cell shaded panda the other day
Guen Shan: hmm, what is cell shading? ^^
Marianne McCann: Then again, my friend Robin talks of "pile ons" of 3k
Torley Linden: Guen: It's kind of a flat, cartoon look...
Torley Linden: like an anime or Looney Tunes. ;)
Mono Flow: Yep.
Marianne McCann: With a black outline kinda thing
Mono Flow: Yep.
Torley Linden: Yeah, sometimes dark brown or something else for variation, but that's the general idea.
Ninatchka Markova: permission to come aboard
Squirrel Wood: cell shaded sphere?
Squirrel Wood: sort of
Rex Cronon: oh, the outside transparent, inside visible, trick:)
Marianne McCann: A board?
Torley Linden: You're welcome aboard, Ninatchka!
Torley Linden: Come on down!
Mono Flow: Just don't poke my parasol. >.<
Tea Gumbo: hi
Cymond Blackburn: somone want the elemental had v2?
Juko Tempel: beam her in Torley lol
Cymond Blackburn: hud*
Squirrel Wood: inside black, outside invisible and another smaller prim textured inside
Marianne McCann: What's dat, Cymond?
Sougent Harrop: Hmmm, still downloading textures......
Cymond Blackburn: elemental thing
Ninatchka Markova: nica flat torley
Torley Linden: Thanks Ninatchka!
Torley Linden: I built it with mine own hands... muhahaha!
Kooky Jetaime sees the hour drawing to a close
Torley Linden: Cymond I like your group tag. ;)
Torley Linden: Of course, I'm more than slightly biased.
Cymond Blackburn: but somone want the pack?
Torley Linden: I have a Marketing meeting after this, whee!
Juko Tempel: and spare watermelons that were lying around..
Cymond Blackburn: free
Juko Tempel: eeek
Torley Linden: OK Cymond I'll have a pack. :-)
Sougent Harrop: Marketing meeting?
Sougent Harrop: YAY! (yay!)
Marianne McCann: Ooh, Marketing. ONe of my backgrounds. Have... fun?
Juko Tempel: selling SL?
Juko Tempel: hehe
Mono Flow: My keyboard doesn't like me.
Torley Linden: Aww... all keyboards and their controllers should be friends.
Mono Flow: Yes they should and I thought we were. O.o
Rex Cronon: torley, i have question about what happens when a av gets perm banned, is this the right time and place to ask it?
Torley Linden: It's kinda funny and ironic, some folks used to think I was in Marketing/PR at Linden Lab... when I wasn't. Now, I find myself moving in that direction.
Mono Flow: Maybe it's mad cause I built my parasol for flying so I sue it less.
Juko Tempel: very very sad lol
Torley Linden: Rex, sorry, that's not my area of expertise at all. That's a good one for Governance Office Hours tho.
Mono Flow: use
Juko Tempel: thanks Torley, gotta go guys
Torley Linden: Have a good one Juko! :)
Jason Swain: Maybe its a talent that you just can't hide Torley
Marianne McCann: See ya Juko
Ninatchka Markova: bye
Juko Tempel: you too, even in the marketing meeting lol
Rex Cronon: does governance happen to have office hours
Rex Cronon: bye juko
Marianne McCann: Rex - M-0F @ 10 in Kremer
Rex Cronon: i mean when
Marianne McCann: M-F*
Cymond Blackburn's Elemental :: Cymond Blackburn whispers: Combat Control OFF. You are no longer attackable
Cymond Blackburn: ops
Marianne McCann: I'm gonna hafta go back to my workshop soon, too. Gotta get done by the end of the week next
Torley Linden: Jason, haha... well I can't resist doing the video tutorials, this is true. And I'm motivated to do them because the community — and in a less-abstract way — you who come to my office hours enjoy them. :)
Rex Cronon: thank u:) i suppose kremer is a sim
Marianne McCann: Yup, Rex. Jes search for it in the Map
Torley Linden: So I may find myself taking more responsibility with Resident-facing education... we'll see.
Torley Linden: Kremer is an island!
Sougent Harrop: Need to put them on iTunes as video podcasts.
Torley Linden: Lighthouse, deck chairs, can't miss it!
Rex Cronon: thank u again
Marianne McCann: Only one place there, realy, aside from water
Torley Linden: Sougent: You're right. I should. It's on my to-do list.
kris Farrjones: hi
Torley Linden: After Cornelius moves some backend stuff around...
Marianne McCann: Oh, that would rock, havin em in the iTunes podcasts
Torley Linden: Cornelius helped get video tutorials featured on the front of secondlife.com via links too.
Sougent Harrop: I'll hve to start cleaning off my iPod then
Torley Linden: I know we have a Second Life podcast... we haven't used it that much.
Mono Flow: Torley, how is it possible to make a script that bypasses the land secrity itself to eject people? My friend had a trouble maker the other day that had a script that ejected me and my friend whenever we got close to the parcel.
Jason Swain: Well I really hope that your careea goes in a direction that you find interesting and simulating, but most importantly one that means we all still get to see you at the office hours ^^
Torley Linden: The new downloadable versions I'm providing are standard MP4 files, iPod-compatible... just gotta make 'em RSSable.
Sougent Harrop: Why don't you start sig it Torley?
Torley Linden: Mono, sounds like a push script? Like a weapon?
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: Sougent: "start sig it"?
Squirrel Wood: ShoopedLife ?
Mono Flow: No, it ACTUALLY ejected it us.
Sougent Harrop: start using the podcast
Mono Flow: It had the message in blue at the bottom like you've actually been ejected.
Sougent Harrop types too fast for sl
Torley Linden: Sougent: I need to wait for some backend work to be done so I can put my video files in the proper place.
Torley Linden: So that's a dependency.
Sougent Harrop: I mean audio too
Torley Linden: And I wish text appeared faster in SL, even when the rest of the FPS was done... ;)
Mono Flow: Heh.
Torley Linden: I would be open to doing audio podcasts.
Marianne McCann: Mono - dat's weird
Sougent Harrop: An SL related one
Mono Flow: It is, but it happened.
Torley Linden: Oh pardon me, it's been delightful! Thanks for your ideas and inspiration and for being with me. I gotta go to Marketing meet now!
Torley Linden: I hopes ya have a tremendous weekend. :)
Sougent Harrop: Have fun
Rex Cronon: bye torley
Torley Linden: Each and all of ya!
Rex Cronon: u too
Cymond Blackburn: somone want the rlrmrntal hud V2???
Torley Linden: Good to see ya Bridie.
Marianne McCann: Bye Bye!!
Jason Swain: Thanks again Torley have a lovely weekend
Cymond Blackburn: elemental
Guen Shan: *mews*
Squirrel Wood: Have fun!
Harleen Gretzky: tc Torley
Harleen Gretzky: tc bridie
Mono Flow: Yes and remeber the little black fuzzy thing with the parasol! :D
Jason Swain: *waves over to Bridie*
Rex Cronon: bye everybody else, i am going to toher sim. have fun
Cymond Blackburn: if somone want i set up a box
Torley Linden: Bye Al, lufpleh, Guen, Mono, Cymond, Kam, Rex, Squirrel, Harleen, Ninatchka, Squirrel, Mari, Kooky, Yeah, Sougent, Jason, pardon if I missed anyone!
Kooky Jetaime: pl
Kooky Jetaime: ok
Al Sonic: G'bye!
