This wiki is for collaboration between Linden Lab and the Second Life community. Linden Lab cannot review every submission at submission time, but reserves the right to remove unsuitable content at any time.

Portals

Linden Lab provides this wiki as a service to the communities represented by the portals:

New portals may be added at any time, subject to the discretion of Linden Lab.

New page creation

When creating a new page:

  • Use the simplest, most obvious name possible when creating new pages. You can always create a disambiguation page later if needed.
  • Help prevent wiki sprawl! Edit existing pages rather than creating new pages if at all possible
  • When your content is aimed to a specific audience, please at least include a brief introduction for people who aren't familiar with the content or point out where to find these information.

Read the Quickie Wiki Intro as a manual on how to create new pages.

Content

Desired is any content supporting the Second Life community, except advertisement of commercial products. Furthermore, all content provided needs to be PG, as opposed to mature or adult and to abide to the Community Standards as well as the Terms of Service.

All content added to the Second Life wiki must be compatible to the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0, see Project:Contribution Agreement.

Besides that, be bold.

Point of View

Articles should be written in the third person. The page history will contain the complete contribution history, so there's no need to sign articles. A generally neutral point of view should be adopted, with the caveat that this is for people wanting to help build Second Life, not for general complaints about Second Life as a service or of Linden Lab as a company. Criticism of the service which supports feature request or proposal is acceptable (e.g. "Here's problem X. Implementing Y will solve X."), but general complaints which only serve to discourage use of Second Life should be taken elsewhere.

Localization

See Project:Languages for localization guidelines.

Removal of Content

Residents can't permanently remove content from the wiki. Use redirects for merged or accidentally created pages. Articles can be tagged with Template:Delete where redirects seem inappropriate (e.g. where the wiki is used in an abusive manner or where it violates copyright).

Linking of Content

Please link pages to related pages where appropriate. It is suggested to link the first appearance in text of a term in need for explanation (like avatar, grid, OGP, ...).

Also categorize your pages where appropriate. Full list of available categories.

Namespaces

Main

The main namespace is supposed to hold most of the Second Life wiki's content.

"Project" namespace

This wiki has a "Project:" namespace. However, that should be reserved for meta information about this wiki itself. On most MediaWiki installs, the "Project:" namespace is equal to the name of the wiki itself, but it's unset on this wiki, thus "Project:" is the sole way of getting to that namespace. The things that go into the "Project:" namespace should be limited to those things that are about editing policy or otherwise about this wiki, rather than about Second Life.

"Help" namespace

The Help namespace is reserved for wiki related help articles (editing manuals, etc.). Second Life related help articles are supposed to be added to the main namespace.

"User" namespace

Any content abiding by the overall wiki guidelines might be submitted to the User namespace as a subpage of the creaters userpage. The Point of View guideline does not have an effect here.

"Talk" namespace

See Project:Talk Page Guidelines for talk page specific guidelines.
