Torley Linden: Friendly greetings! ;)
Jeremy Linden: Greetings!
A C: greetings !
Indie Jaxxon: hello
A C: hello :)
Dimitrio Lewis waves
Jamaica Noel: hello
Torley Linden: Hey, misc. Q for anyone who's tried this... has anyone noticed the Distance Factor sound slider doesn't seem to work?
Jeremy Linden tries.
Torley Linden: I remember a time when it used to, but when I checked more recently... it doesn't appear to do much...
Jamaica Noel: are you having a meeting here?
Jeremy Linden: Distance Multiplier?
Torley Linden: Jamaica, we sure are! WindLight office hour!
Jamaica Noel: cool
Torley Linden: Jeremy, the Preferences > Audio & Video tab's "Distance Factor"... wait, which version are you on?
Jamaica Noel: cute av torley
Jeremy Linden: Heh. I thought you meant a WindLight setting, Torley.
Torley Linden: Jeremy: Oh LOL sorry no, I meant a sound setting.
Torley Linden: I put out a looped sound cube this morning and no matter what I changed that slider to, it didn't make a difference.
Torley Linden: With the exception of moving it all the way to the left...
Torley Linden: it made some high-pitched glitchy noises.
Torley Linden: But I was like, "What the heck, this seems broken!"
Torley Linden: Pastrami!
Pastrami Linden: hello
Jeremy Linden: Ouch! I honestly don't think I've ever played with that slider.
Torley Linden: Jeremy, yeah... let me know how it works for you if you get a chance to test... =o)
Gypsy Paz: hey hey
Jeremy Linden needs to find his A440 tone sound.
Gypsy Paz: I have 3 issues I'd like to disucss
Torley Linden: Please do IM Pastrami Linden with your issues!
Pastrami Linden: Jeremy you wanna throw up that fancy sign?
Torley Linden: And then we can discuss! =D
Jeremy Linden: Trying!
Pastrami Linden: k
Gypsy Paz: ok
Jeremy Linden: Sigh.
Jeremy Linden: Can you guys see them?
Torley Linden: No. :(
Torley Linden: What's the prob?
Jeremy Linden: I think I just put out like 10, but they're not appearing.
Jeremy Linden: New prim time!
Torley Linden: Ahh dangit group IMs failing on me.
Pastrami Linden: [8:05] Gypsy Paz: hi Pastrami, I have 3 issues, #2 and #3 are not so clear, but the first one is about turning prims flexi via LSL in windlight makes them turn invisible, I bought a repo cube with me http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-4129
Pastrami Linden: Gpysy, let me check if that's been solved recently
Torley Linden: *keeps an eye on that Issue Tracker #, thanks for mentioning it!*
Orchid Galli: hello everyone :)
Pastrami Linden: Torley do you know if this one is linked internally?
Torley Linden: I've never seen this one internally, Pastrami.
Torley Linden: I can go ahead and import this and assign to you...
Torley Linden: for further actionage.
Torley Linden: Oh drat my power's going out, if I suddenly disappear that's why!
Pastrami Linden: yeah that's be good
Pastrami Linden: that'd
Torley Linden: *watches as lights buzz*
Torley Linden: OK will do.
Torley Linden: Brad, you trying to repro it?
Ilyushin Tzedek: hay guyz
Torley Linden: Heya Ilyushin!
Pastrami Linden: [8:09] Gypsy Paz: ok cool, the 2nd one, and this is not so clear, but in windlight, every now and then I like get a single polygon of an object pulled way out, sometimes 10-20 meters sometimes as far as I can see, I've only been able to catch it with a screenshot once
Torley Linden: Welcome everyone to our WindLight office hour!
Pastrami Linden: Gypsy, what graphics cards are you on?
Torley Linden: *wonders if Gypsy's on ATI... and has VBO on?*
Gypsy Paz: dual 8600GT
Gypsy Paz: no, its not the vbo thing with ati cards, I am aware of that
Pastrami Linden: hmm
Torley Linden: Good to know, thanks Gypsy.
Pastrami Linden: well, if it's only happened once....
Torley Linden: You sure have done your research and I'm thankful for that.
Pastrami Linden: or every now and then
Gypsy Paz: no its happened serveral times over the last week or so
Pastrami Linden: well,
Dimitrio Lewis: I've witnessed that on one occassion this week
Pastrami Linden: that time of subtle bug,
Pastrami Linden: type
Gypsy Paz: I will post in the JIRA when I manage to catch a couple more screenshots
Ilyushin Tzedek raises her hand, "i has questions, who do i note?"
Pastrami Linden: usually goes away with other driver enhancements, etc.
Torley Linden: Anyone and everyone who has questions, please IM Pastrami Linden! :)
Pastrami Linden: it's tough to repro
Brad Linden: torley: yeah I was trying to repro VWR-4129
Torley Linden: *nod*
Pastrami Linden: unless you can tell us exactly how to do so
Gypsy Paz: I brought a repo object for that
Pastrami Linden: oh really?
Torley Linden: Crashed, SmartHeap memory error. Am back!
Ilyushin Tzedek: could be worse, imagine it was a pan
Ilyushin Tzedek: like those big ones
Ilyushin Tzedek: with the lids
Orchid Galli: welcome back =)
Ilyushin Tzedek: and the handles
Torley Linden: Thanks Orchid!
Pastrami Linden: hehe
Ilyushin Tzedek: can i ask a few questions? :3
Pastrami Linden: Gypsy, IM me your third question
Pastrami Linden: Ilyushin, IM me please
Ilyushin Tzedek: kk
Pastrami Linden: so I can process in order
Torley Linden: Yes, please, anyone who has questions, IM them to Pastrami!
Torley Linden: And please check that we haven't already answered them before (we keep a running FAQ @ http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Windlight ) :)
Torley Linden: Jeremy's coming back!
Torley Linden: *silence*
Jeremy Linden: "The instruction at "0x696b3e09" referenced memory at "0x000000004". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.
Torley Linden: Yeesh.
shanxtc Bade: VvVvV*+*+*+*ROOOOOAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR*+*+*+*VvVvV
Pastrami Linden: [8:18] Gypsy Paz: ok, and the 3rd one is about havok 4, I have a 1 prim swimball vechile, and it floats lower in the water with H4 than it does on non-h4 sim. I can fix it by turning up the float height, but then its only correct on H4, I have not need able to repo this on other objects yet
Pastrami Linden: ooh, havok 4 questions are tough
Pastrami Linden: not our field
Torley Linden: Oh, that sounds like a known bug.
Gypsy Paz: yeah, and I'm still working on narrowing it down more before I post it int he JIRA
Pastrami Linden: torleym you wanna find havok4/sidewinder's office hours?
Gypsy Paz: oh? I havn't been able to find a bug report on it
Torley Linden: Gypsy, I reckon that's already in PJIRA.
Torley Linden: Mhmmm, see the office hour times here! http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Office_Hours
Torley Linden: Also info in http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/01/23/havok4-early-adopter-program-returns-to-second-life/
Gypsy Paz: ok cool, and I'll try to get more info before I go
Brad Linden: havok4 seems to be thursday at 5pm
Signboard: Touched.
Pastrami Linden: [8:19] Ilyushin Tzedek: my questions are 1) The pretty water thing still doesnt work on my nVidia Go 6600 card. will it ever? 2) When I zoom out of prims their alpha channel seems to be completely discarded. instead you get the texture on top of a field the color of the prim. is it because of my graphics card? 3) WL crashes so often I can't even use it anymore, I run the normal viewer now. How to fix? and lastly, how come SL doesn't work on pre-release ATI cards? (not sure you can answer that but i'm just wondering, really)
Gypsy Paz: oh, thats sleepy time for me ;)
Torley Linden: Gypsy, specifically:
Torley Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-1272 - Boats Lower in Water in the Havok 4 Sims
Torley Linden: sounds like that may be what you are looking for.
Pastrami Linden: i'll let you guys field this- gotta go to the kirby bathroom
Torley Linden: <.<
Gypsy Paz: cool, thanks torrey
Iggy Ansome: *YAY*
Torley Linden: Ilyushin, I'm out of order here, but (3) we're aware of some crash issues we're going to fix. Specifics are important, so please make sure to send in crash reports.
Torley Linden: And report new issues on http://jira.secondlife.com
Torley Linden: Ilyushin, re: (2) sounds like alpha transparencies becoming opaque at a distance, known issue, Runitai Linden optimized it some more... we'll continue to tweak.
Torley Linden: I believe there was talk of putting in a Debug Setting to DISABLE that switchover altogether if needed.
Torley Linden: And re: (1) hmmm awhile back we did resolve a very big issue with shader water not working on NVIDIA Go cards... did you see that already?
Ilyushin Tzedek: no, not yet
Torley Linden: Brad, BigPapi, Jeremy, Zen (hey hey!) please feel free to include details I missed out!
Ilyushin Tzedek: the thing simply never worked for me at all
Torley Linden: Ilyushin: Does shader water work on the main viewer for you?
Ilyushin Tzedek: yeah, the water looks perfectly normal on the regular wiever
Torley Linden: Ilyushin: And you've upgraded to newest drivers (that your laptop manufacturer presumably) provides?
Ilyushin Tzedek: yeah, i did, didnt help
Ilyushin Tzedek: although toshiba's drivers are always horribly dated
Torley Linden: Hmmm... OK Ilyushin, I'd at least report it on the Issue Tracker so we can keep track, and link it to... https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-925
Torley Linden: so at least we have a record of it.
Ilyushin Tzedek: thanks
Torley Linden: And if you find other people with the same problem, let them know to comment/vote on your issue so we're more aware of the scope/breadth of who this is affecting.
Torley Linden: You're welcome. :)
BigPapi Linden: Have you tried running the water without atmospheric shaders?
Ilyushin Tzedek: no, not yet, but i'll try that
Torley Linden: Yeah good thought BigPapi...
Pastrami Linden: back
Ilyushin Tzedek: but if i have to pick i'd rather keep the pretty skies lol
Torley Linden: Ilyushin, which OS are you on?
Torley Linden: Welcome back Pastrami!
Ilyushin Tzedek: Windows XP Media Center Edition SP2
Torley Linden: Ahh OK.
Torley Linden: And re: your "lastly" question, what do you mean by "pre-release ATI cards"?
Ilyushin Tzedek: i got the fat one
Torley Linden: which model specifically?
BigPapi Linden: Ilyushin, if you have atmospherics on, then any comparison with the release viewer being capable of something that the WL viewer is not is not a one to one comparison
Ilyushin Tzedek: well, my RL bf is an engineer at ATI so he often has cards that have no been released yet. we tried giving SL a shot on his computer but it just complained about the drivers and refused to go any further
BigPapi Linden: Since atmospherics are so much more complicated than anything that the release viewer renders.
Ilyushin Tzedek: SL is the only program that has ever complained, he runs games and other stuff impecably on the card
BigPapi Linden: Ilyushin, we're probably the single heaviest user of GLSL
BigPapi Linden: Most of the games he's playing are DirectX and HLSL
Torley Linden: Oh interesting...
Zen Linden wonders if the card accidentally claims not to have multitexture in GL
shanxtc Bade: VvVvV*+*+*+*ROOOOOAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR*+*+*+*VvVvV
Zen Linden has seen that on other cards that obvioulsy do, but the GL test for it fails
Zen Linden: and then we put up a message about drivers
Ilyushin Tzedek: right
Ilyushin Tzedek: it was the problem he had, SL didnt like the drivers a lot
Ilyushin Tzedek: he updated them, sl was still unhappy
Zen Linden: yeah, what card was this?
Ilyushin Tzedek: a so far unreleased one
Torley Linden: The plot thickens... ;)
Zen Linden: :)
Ilyushin Tzedek: i can't tell you the model name because i haven't got the foggiest clue :D
Zen Linden: gotcha
Zen Linden: i saw the logs recently on a fujitsu laptop
Maldavius Figtree: title
Ilyushin Tzedek: but yeah, everything else runs fine, SL didnt as much as start :(
Zen Linden: where an ATI 2600 claimed to not support multitexture
Zen Linden: There's little I could do there other than talk to fujitsu
Zen Linden: they had "tweaked" it some way
Ilyushin Tzedek: oh, one thing
Ilyushin Tzedek: my bf just told me the card is released now
Ilyushin Tzedek: it's the 3870 x2
Zen Linden: ahh! I read about those
Ilyushin Tzedek: although the one he tried it on was just 3870
Ilyushin Tzedek: have you guys tried those yet?
Zen Linden: not yet
Zen Linden: I'll have to see what we can do about it
Ilyushin Tzedek: thanks :)
Pastrami Linden: alright, next question....
Pastrami Linden: [8:23] Keisha Ninetails: is there any possibility of getting rid of the web based login, it's not so much that it fails to connect so often as the insult that the page it redirects to when it fails is insulting as it implies that the LL network is infalable, (which we know isn't true if we spend 5 minutes on the LL blog), and all connection issues belong to the client
Gypsy Paz: ok, in windlight, how do I get this fly to stop landing on my screen?
Pastrami Linden: Keisha, you'll be happy to know it is GONE come the next release
Pastrami Linden: :)
shanxtc Bade: VvVvV*+*+*+*ROOOOOAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR*+*+*+*VvVvV
Keisha Ninetails: good
Pastrami Linden: yes, dinosaur roar indeed
A C: and when is the nexte release , :)
Zen Linden: w00! No more viewer auth!
A C: next*
Pastrami Linden: today or tomorrow, you sneaky gal you
A C: ^^
Pastrami Linden: alright, IM me Q's!
Torley Linden: *wants faster logins back too*
BigPapi Linden: Literally, he just want's as many IMs with just Q's in them.
Torley Linden: On a sidenote, the current 1.19 Release Candidate viewer has also reverted to the previous login screen.
BigPapi Linden: QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ
Jeremy Linden fails to attach Q Linden to an IM.
Pastrami Linden: quizzical quandaries qoncering QindLight
Torley Linden: (If you want to see what hat looks like today.)
Torley Linden: QindLight sounds like some madness of deep meditation from the Seven Astral Temples of Sheboog!
Maldavius Figtree: lol
Pastrami Linden: this is madness Torley
Torley Linden: THIS... IS... WINDLIGHT!
Zen Linden: lol!
Gypsy Paz: lol, sry ;)
Pastrami Linden kicks a pixel into the framebuffer
Dimitrio Lewis gave you Dimi Wake.
Zen Linden decides to start fighting people with no clothes on
Pastrami Linden: alright srsly yall IM question kthxbye s33 you 4t t3h m411
Torley Linden: Nice picture Dimi, is that a reference to Alan Wake? :)
Dimitrio Lewis: yup :D
Torley Linden: Kewl. I'm waiting for that game to come out!
Orchid Galli gives Zen Linden a folder of brashkicks
Torley Linden: "It's done when it's done." -Remedy
Orchid Galli: XD
Dimitrio Lewis: heh
Pastrami Linden: queue is empty
Keisha Ninetails gets ready to copy and paste spam Pastrami
Pastrami Linden: OMG
Pastrami Linden: Spam Pastrami
Pastrami Linden: or more like,
Pastrami Linden: Pastrami Spam
Pastrami Linden: canned meat for the discerning lunch diner
Pastrami Linden: peppered and cured
Pastrami Linden: mmmmmmm
Maldavius Figtree: D:
Gypsy Paz: lol
Maldavius Figtree: Peppered linden
Keisha Ninetails: O
Keisha Ninetails: O
Pastrami Linden: Brian Peppered Linden
Keisha Ninetails: M
Keisha Ninetails: G
Maldavius Figtree: XD
Torley Linden: Got WindLight questions? We got WindLight answers! Ask and you shall receive! IM Pastrami Linden!
Torley Linden: Pastrami, OMG, haha I am so familiar with that meme. <.<
Zen Linden: Join Nintendo Fun Club Today!
Torley Linden: That's the first time I heard a Brian Peppers reference in SL.
Keisha Ninetails: Pastrami is ignoring my question lol
Torley Linden: >,>
Pastrami Linden: sorry Keisha-
Maldavius Figtree: Dont worry hes just pulling the peppercorns out of his pastrami ears <_<
Keisha Ninetails: lol
Pastrami Linden: hey internal question here- Torley have you noticed that IMs are no longer blinging
Pastrami Linden: after you get one from someone
Pastrami Linden: subsequent ones don't "bling"
Gypsy Paz: they havn't in a while
Pastrami Linden: *something* is behaving differently for me then
Maldavius Figtree: It does happen but only when your getting quite alot of IMs
Ilyushin Tzedek: y'aint got tha bling, yo
Pastrami Linden: I be dull :(
Maldavius Figtree: I bug reported it D:
Pastrami Linden: whatevs, on to Keisha
Pastrami Linden: 8:34] Keisha Ninetails: if I needed to distribute a water preset for a bug repro what would be the best way to do so?
Torley Linden: Yeah hmm I'll have a closer look at that.
Pastrami Linden: hmm, the xml file, Zen
Pastrami Linden: ?
Torley Linden: Keisha, attach the XML file to the Issue Tracker issue. =o)
Zen Linden: yeah
Keisha Ninetails: oki
Torley Linden: Do you know where to find the XML files?
Keisha Ninetails: yes
Torley Linden: Great. And for anyone who doesn't, the directories are listed here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Windlight#Torley.27s_WindLight_settings
Ilyushin Tzedek: Pastrami, i IMed you, i think you mgiht've mised it though
Pastrami Linden: yeah IMing is really not working for me
Pastrami Linden: [8:36] Ilyushin Tzedek: one more question, my bf asks if there's a debug mode that can tell him what SL is missing so he can go tell the driver guys to add stuff before release and not after lol
Pastrami Linden: it's not notifying me at all
Ilyushin Tzedek: figured as much
Pastrami Linden: BigPapi, wanna address that one?
Ilyushin Tzedek: needs moar bling
Keisha Ninetails: gonna file it as a low priority bug though as it's probably going to require a rethginking of a previous bug fix from last year sometime
Torley Linden: Pastrami, re: IMs, which version you on right now? The WindLight "Second Life 1.18.6 (77495)"?
BigPapi Linden: Not that I'm aware
Zen Linden: you'll want to look at the logs. Are you on vista or XP?
Torley Linden: Thanks Keisha.
Zen Linden: ^Ilyushin
BigPapi Linden: Zen, do we currently print any more info to the log with what triggered the message?
Pastrami Linden: Torley I'm 79083
Ilyushin Tzedek: zen: XP
Ilyushin Tzedek: Windows XP
Zen Linden: yeah, i think it will say couldn't find multexture_arb... blah blah blah
Zen Linden: kk
Zen Linden: look at the log dir in
Zen Linden: one sec
Maldavius Figtree: Jeremy? Are you a... blingmaster?
Torley Linden: Hahahaha.
Ilyushin Tzedek: MY EYES
Kitty Tandino: rofl
Maldavius Figtree: XD
Jeremy Linden: Heh. Bling Elemental.
Ilyushin Tzedek: THE GOGGLES! THEY DO NOTHING!
Torley Linden: Pastrami: Oh, that already branched off of 1.19? Hmmm...
Maldavius Figtree: lol
A C: My eyes !!!
Torley Linden: Ilyushin: I remember that Simpsons reference!
Torley Linden: *takes a pic of Jeremy*
Zen Linden: C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\SecondLife\logs\SecondLife.log
Zen Linden: it should say what's failing at the end, if its what I think it is
Orchid Galli: I'll this snap 'Blingtard Linden' XD
Orchid Galli: call*
Keisha Ninetails gave you Memorex.
Pastrami Linden: [8:41] Zeroe Auer: Popped in late so sorry if this has been asked. Two glow related questions. First, any chance of killing glow's tendency to infect UI elements? Glowing position arrows are annoying. Second, what plans are there for scripting glow?
Zen Linden: I know a couple of people on the ATI GL team. If I can repro it, I'll ping them as well
Pastrami Linden: BigPapi take the first one
Torley Linden: Keisha, what bug am I looking for here, besides the water being unnaturally clear?
Ilyushin Tzedek: thanks a million, Zen :)
Zen Linden: thank me when it's fixed
Zen Linden: I'll leave a jira for myself to test it
BigPapi Linden: 1) UI elements will be changed to not be able to glow & not have glow affect them.
Zen Linden will use it secretly to get a 3870 to play TF2 on
Ilyushin Tzedek: XD
BigPapi Linden: 2) Scriptable glow is planned, just not yet.
Pastrami Linden: Zen TF2? really? you can think of more heavy duty games than that
Ilyushin Tzedek sucks at TF2 :(
Zeroe Auer: Glowing nametags are moderately cool though. ;)
Pastrami Linden: lol
Pastrami Linden: nice music
Maldavius Figtree: >.<
Maldavius Figtree: Oh god... I so want scriptable glow
Ilyushin Tzedek: everyone always gangs up on the medic v.v
Zen Linden: Medics are wussies
Pastrami Linden: secondly, scriptable glow is coming
Pastrami Linden: but no definite date yet
Zeroe Auer: Scriptable glow ftw. Enough fun with animated textures though.
Ilyushin Tzedek: Zen, you were right about the multitexture
Torley Linden: Scriptable glow is mentioned in the http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Windlight#Are_you_ever_going_to_add_.5BINSERT_COOL_FEATURE_HERE.5D.3F section :)
Pastrami Linden: [8:35] Gypsy Paz: ok, and this might be a bit off subject, but what about the possiblities of auto-uploading textures with XML via the new HET grid? [8:42] Gypsy Paz: what kind of time frame are we looking at before the windlight presets make it to the asset servers?
Pastrami Linden: Gypsy, second part answer is SOON
Pastrami Linden: :)
Gypsy Paz: works for me ;)
Pastrami Linden: on the order of months- we still have to test WL client side more
Zen Linden: cool, Ilyushin, have him let the driver folks know. I'll see if it does it for me as well.
Pastrami Linden: and I'll let someone else field the first part
BigPapi Linden: texture uploading isn't windlight related, so all we can say is that the WL team has NO plans to add that
Torley Linden: I don't know where that specifically fits in Gypsy, but I'd ask a Linden like... Periapse about "het grid" stuff.
Torley Linden: Not sure what you mean by "auto-uploading textures"?
Torley Linden: But we are planning improved parcel media in the future...
Pastrami Linden: let me just bang this one out quickly-
Pastrami Linden: [8:49] Kitty Tandino: i've noticed on windlight that "what should be hidden items" attatchments on AVI's show from a distance but as you get closer they don't.. has anyone delt with same thing?
Gypsy Paz: yeah, that was an old IM from when pastrami was complaining about not having any questions, just snuck into the paste I think ;)
Zen Linden SOOOO wants flash on a prim
Pastrami Linden: Kitty, known issue, fixed
Kitty Tandino: :S i still see it
Pastrami Linden: fixed internally
Kitty Tandino: ahhh
Pastrami Linden: means upcoming release fixes it
Pastrami Linden: :)
Kitty Tandino: :)!~ woot
Pastrami Linden: unless you opted in to "mind taking"
Pastrami Linden: then yo ualready have it
Pastrami Linden: well, you already *see* it as though it's fixed
Kitty Tandino: ~chants: it is fixed it is fixed
Kitty Tandino: :P
Pastrami Linden: [8:51] Maldavius Figtree: Ive noticed certain ATI graphics cards have graphical errors in windlight resulting in objects turning into giant triangles shooting into your head <_<. Its happening on mine an ATI mobility radeon X1600 and a few other models of ATI
Pastrami Linden: hmm, one of the oldies but goodies
Maldavius Figtree: I hate that bug :<
Pastrami Linden: I still don't think we've caught this one
Zen Linden: Hmm. Maldavius. with the new release... try the latest ati drivers
Pastrami Linden: let me pull it up
Zen Linden: once it comes out
Pastrami Linden: oh yeah, better answer
Pastrami Linden: :)
Zen Linden: I haven't seen it in a while on my x1300
Maldavius Figtree: >.<
Maldavius Figtree: Ok I was hoping its not unique to my system because im on a macbook pro running windows xp through bootcamp
Zen Linden: hmmm
Zen Linden: i ought to bootcamp my MBP
Maldavius Figtree: im using leopard, its awesome
Zen Linden: yeah
Pastrami Linden: [8:52] Zeroe Auer: Another q if you run short... Windlight seems to be based on an absolute rather than perceptual lighting model, which produces some pretty funky results (compare two white prims at an angle to each other at sun up/sun down for example). Any thoughts about moving over to a more perceptual model such as including some white balancing?
Zen Linden: meant to do it this weekend
Pastrami Linden: Zeroe, a fantastic question-
Pastrami Linden: I think the answer should be scriptable WL
Pastrami Linden: such that you can change gamma
Pastrami Linden: dynamically, say, based on how much sun + ambient is in the scene
Pastrami Linden: easiest way I can think of
Pastrami Linden: anyone else?
Zeroe Auer: Would scripted dynamic work on a per region basis or a per prim basis?
Pastrami Linden: per region
Pastrami Linden: well,
Pastrami Linden: I don't know the scipting system intimately,
Pastrami Linden: but I suppose if you can get one data type (like the WL settings)
Pastrami Linden: no reason you can't use it anywhere
Pastrami Linden: (?)
Zeroe Auer: Sounds promising, I really would look at utilising a more perceptual model as default though.
Pastrami Linden: Zeroe, unlikely-
Pastrami Linden: it would require too much work to "change things randomly" as most people would see it
Pastrami Linden: i.e.,
Pastrami Linden: right now it's a hard and fast user-defined model
Pastrami Linden: things too bright?
Pastrami Linden: change em with the sliders
Pastrami Linden: to code in meta functionality
Pastrami Linden: makes "absolute" content creation a b%^&*
Pastrami Linden: get me?
Zeroe Auer: Not really. You could simulate it by altering the colour variations between ambient and direct lighting
Pastrami Linden: I think someone will code some perceptual things like what you discuss and make a killing :)
Pastrami Linden: any other Qs?
Pastrami Linden: oh also Zeroe I think you'll find the defaults in the next release are very well balanced
Pastrami Linden: anyone else before we quit?
Keisha Ninetails: I have one more, one sec while I type it in
Pastrami Linden: [8:59] Keisha Ninetails: when you guys are doing all this lighting color changes are you using hardware or eyeball calibrated screens?
Pastrami Linden: a bit of both
shanxtc Bade: lol
Maldavius Figtree: Would have to be both
Maldavius Figtree: Otherwise you break the zombie law *looks almost right but oh god something is a bit off RUN!!!*
Pastrami Linden: we're using eyeball but on screens that are better color calibrated than others
Pastrami Linden: i also use the color picker
Pastrami Linden: to make sure colors are close, hue-wise, to their original texture at midday
Pastrami Linden: but ultimately you can only get so close with an "in-world" system
Pastrami Linden: and, I think someone will make presets that are neutral for building
Zeroe Auer: I've got a gamma calibration texture right here...
Keisha Ninetails: so just eyeball calibration then, oki
Pastrami Linden: have to imagine that'll be one of the first ones sold :)
Pastrami Linden: Zeroe, looking
Pastrami Linden: what should I be looking for here, convergence of the black?
Keisha Ninetails: depends on if you're on a mac or a pc
Pastrami Linden: XP bootcam
Pastrami Linden: p
Pastrami Linden: so PC
Pastrami Linden: :)
Keisha Ninetails sticks with the hardware calibration via spyder
Zeroe Auer: Should be seeing a gray line convergence at 2.2 windows standard 1.8 mac standard
Sappheire Demina: qb, sorry didnt see you..
Zen Linden: BigPapi, you've got a bootcamped MBP with the x1600, right?
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/18359
BigPapi Linden: yes
Maldavius Figtree: same as mine
Zen Linden: mind running sl for a bit on it today to see if we still get the triangles of doom?
Maldavius Figtree: Ill do the same, want me to IM you with results?
Zen Linden: please
Zen Linden: (once the new release is out)
Maldavius Figtree: kk
BigPapi Linden: Sure, though that means I'll be going "dark" for a while
Pastrami Linden: alright all, I gotta run
Pastrami Linden: laterz!
Brad Linden: later all, thanks for coming!
Gypsy Paz: thans pastrami
Torley Linden: I've got to go too, good seeing ya!
Pastrami Linden: yep!
A C: bye bye
Torley Linden: Take care all. :o)
Zeroe Auer: Thanks guys
