SL Volunteer Education Center

This page is for the documentation and organization of the new SLVEC. Please check back for frequent updates.

General Guidelines, Suggestions, and Kiosk Reservation Process

  • If you are a Mentor participating in the use of SLVEC, you should document any contribution you make on the SLVEC Kiosks Fillout Page
  • All wiki pages created about SLVEC need to be added to Category:SL Volunteer Education Center with [[Category:SL Volunteer Education Center]]
  • Reservations for building in any area (kiosks, shops, tubes, etc.) should be made by dropping a notecard into the Reservation Box. Each central building and kiosk has a number. Please provide this number - as well as your name or names of those in your group - with your reservation request. The Reservation Box is located at SLVEC 181,169,23🖈. Look for the big green particle beam.
Please do not build in or place additional kiosks on SLVEC without VTeam approval.
  • Use the in-world Suggestion Box for submitting your ideas to the VTeam.
The box is located at SLVEC 181,179,23🖈, near the Reservation Box.
Just create a notecard and drop it onto the box.
  • Neovo Geesink has assumed the role of Janitor.
He will 'scan' the SLVEC area at regular intervals for "lost" prims and mark each for possible removal by the VTeam.
This is agreed upon with the VTeam, and the VTeam will regularly check SLVEC for these markers.

  • Prim use per parcel: 80 Location
  • Each language building should have a sign/graphic displayed on the buildings right window showing what language that location uses.
  • Each language building should have an English wiki page documenting the goal, contributions by contributor name, item and date.
  • Each building may use a screen for presentations or slides on that parcel
  • Dispensers of other information should use minimal prims. If your dispenser offers one item please consider grouping it with other related information in a low prim dispenser.

Buddy Center

Find a Buddy.jpg

Welcome to the Buddy Center!

In the South of SLVEC🖈, you'll find two huge 'Find a Buddy!' huts filled with Mentor Buddy pagers.
(You can't miss the fireplace!)

  • the east hut contains pagers for Buddies whose first name begins with A through L
  • the west hut contains pagers for Buddies whose first name begins with M through Z

Information about the panels can be found at the following sites:

Sandbox

  • Auto-return will be set at 2 hours
  • Sandbox priority is for classes that require space for building, scripting, etc.
  • The sandbox must be reserved; do this by mentioning it in your class schedule posting on the wiki.
  • The sandbox should not be used as a testing ground for building or scripting. Those types of tests belong in public sandboxes or, if cleanup is possible and practical, on SLVI. (See SLVEC Sandbox Items)

Theatre Center

  • Prim use per Theatre: 46
  • There are 5 Identical Blocks, which Neovo recently has given a Number, just like the Kiosks.
  • Theatre areas are first come, first served unless reserved within the class schedule posting on the wiki.
  • Theatre presentations must be in the interest of volunteer education - not, for example, horror-movie popcorn parties.
  • Parcel media URLs changed for a class are to be reset to the previous setting when class is over.
  • All items rezzed during a class must be removed when class completes.
  • To use the theatre board for slides, simply drag-and-drop your textures directly onto the board as needed. You will not be able to retrieve these textures after class so make sure you keep a copy of your own. They will be purged by the VTeam periodically.
The commands of Next and Back when typed in chat will bring up the default blank media screen for video use.
  • At the middle of the tree on the East row, (Theatre Block 02) there is a User-Purgeable board with added features. This is an experiment and will be deleted if it is of no value. (The original panel is still in its place directly behind the test-setup.) At this panel, enter "/9 help" (Without quotes) to obtain detailed information about its use.

SLVEC Central

  • Please use prims wisely in this area!

Large Shops

  • At this time, large shops are intended for basic topics such as Building, Scripting, Tools, and Orientation.
  • These spaces must be managed by a group of buddies or coaches. If space becomes needed, we can add new buildings/kiosks to the area accordingly.
  • Once quarterly, these buildings may be cleared.
  • Contributions must be documented on the wiki page (see General SLVEC Guidelines above).
  • Also document your contributions on the SLVEC_Large_Shops page.

Small Shops

  • Can be multiple vendors from two or more Mentors.
  • Free items (that function to assist volunteering) or topics that don't belong in a main building.
  • Once quarterly, these buildings may be cleared.

Tubes

  • One vendor location
  • Free items (that function to assist volunteering) or topics that don't belong in a main building.
  • Once quarterly, these buildings may be cleared.

Fillout Page: SLVEC Kiosks

  • This is a User created fillout page to document your Contents of the SLVEC Kiosks.
  • This page is setup by Neovo Geesink to give everyone a chance to document their Vendors.
  • Link to the fillout Page: SLVEC Kiosks

R&R Center

  • Prim Limit: 900
  • This is a shared area around the main classroom for Orientation coaches. Coaches should group together to create a space for all to enjoy.
  • This area may be cleared once quarterly.

Orientation Center

  • This area - also known as the Orientation Classroom - is used mainly for Orientation sessions. Other classes may use this space if there are no Orientation session scheduled.
  • In the unlikely event of a double-booked or overlapping class, one of the groups can use the Spare Classroom (reachable only by teleport pad). (SkyClass)
  • Classes must be scheduled on the appropriate page.
  • Visitor counters that produce visible chat should not be left after a session is over.
  • Class Hosts / Coaches can obtain a free Visitor Counter at Shop #32 if they do not already have one. (From Neovo Geesink)
  • All materials from classes or sessions should be removed after session is over.
