This article explains how to list your items for sale on the Xstreet Marketplace. You'll basically need to get a Magic Box, put your items inside its contents, then map those to descriptions on the Xstreet website. Once you get the hang of it, you can have an item ready to buy in minutes.
Note: Accounts under 10 days old are restricted from selling items on Xstreet. |
Setting up a Magic Box to sell your items
<videoflash type="vimeo">7169022|640|480</videoflash>
- Obtain a Magic Box for free.
- Choose a location for your Magic Box inworld in Second Life. In order to sell items via Xstreet, you must keep at least one Magic Box containing the items you want to sell rezzed inworld at all times, so the location you choose should be permanent.
Tip: We love to help new sellers! If you don't have a place where you can reliably keep your Magic Box(es), we can give you free space for up to 60 days. To request Magic Box hosting, please contact us. |
Now, you'll need to put items in your magic box:
- Right-click the Magic Box and click Edit, then click the Contents tab. Don't delete the scripts! They must remain for the Magic Box to work properly.
- Drag the items from your inventory into the Magic Box's Contents. Make sure each item in your Magic Box has a descriptive and unique name for easy identification.
- After a moment, the Magic Box confirms that items have been added successfully.
Note: This basic method is tried-and-true, but feel free to use other methods if you're adept. |

To add a new item:
- Go to My Marketplace Items, which can be accessed by clicking the Your Account (which appears as your Second Life name) link at the top of every Xstreet web page.
- Once there, click Add New.
- Fill out the fields and at the bottom, click Add item.
- On My Marketplace, click View My Items to preview your Xstreet storefront just as customers will see it.
Congratulations and happy selling!
Item field explanations
- Category - Select the most specific Category possible to maximize search relevance. Don't post items in the "root" Categories such as Apparel, Home & Garden, etc. unless you can't find an applicable Sub-Category. See our Listing Guidelines for more info.
- SL Object Name - Select the name of the object you're listing from the dropdown menu provided. If the object name is not there, your Magic Box may need to be reset, or you may not have permission to transfer the item.
Note: The "Other" Field is an advanced control that keeps track of your listing if your Magic Box goes offline. This field isn't commonly used. |
- Marketplace Item Name - Type the title you want to use for your listing.
- Description - Write a description for your item. You can use BBcode to style it — look at other merchants whose listings you admire for inspiration. Also, to make it easier to find themed content, we've introduced tags. Each is a keyword prefixed by

Tags are entered as text in a description — simply see existing items using tags to see them in action.- A partial list of tags is here; there are also tags for each Linden Home theme.
- Permissions - Select your item's permissions from the dropdown or type them out in the field if they're complex. For example, you want the buyer to know there's one set of permissions for the object and another for a script inside of it.
Warning: Leaving the Permissions field blank will cause the Permissions to display to potential customers as "None". This can discourage sales. |
- Prims - Use this field to post the number of prims. This effectively only applies to objects that need to be rezzed inworld. In Second Life, right-click an object and click Edit, then look next to primitives:.
- L$ Price - Your item's price goes here. Leaving this field blank will list your item as a L$0 freebie, so be sure you set this as expected.
- Available Quantity - Note the number of items available for sale, such a limited edition works of art. If availability's unlimited, leave the default value of "
-1
". - Adult Item - Check this box if the item you are listing is. If in doubt, check this box, see our Listing Guidelines, and contact us for clarification.
- Receive Sale Notifications - Uncheck this box if you don't want to receive email notification when this item is sold.
- Receive Post Notifications - Uncheck this box if you don't want to receive email notification when a comment or a review is posted on this item.
- Listing Enhancements - Listing Enhancements help you stand out and can boost sales!
- Item Image - Every item needs at least one useful picture to attract potential customers. Make your images beautiful but realistic — excessive retouching is deceptive and not recommended. You can attach more pictures to an item later by editing it.
