[15:03] Oskar Linden: Lil will entertain you
[15:04] Richard Linden is Offline
[15:04] Ardy Lay: I find running two sessions, each in a meeting quite confusing. :-)
[15:05] Oskar Linden: grrr. wikiRAGE
[15:05] Lil Linden is attacked by a ball
[15:06] Techwolf Lupindo is Online
[15:06] Yann Dufaux: lol Lil not me ㋡
[15:06] Lil Linden: and now for your entertainment
[15:06] Lil Linden: that is all
[15:06] Psi Merlin: This place looks like it could do with a clean up.
[15:06] Yann Dufaux: hi Tech, and twisted ㋡
[15:07] Techwolf Lupindo: ooo...wounded prey...
[15:07] Twisted Laws: hi
[15:07] Twisted Laws: i thought this server was gonna get updated :(
[15:07] Techwolf Lupindo: Easy way to clean up here, set auto-return to one minute.
[15:08] Oskar Linden: ok guys
[15:08] Oskar Linden: and animals
[15:08] Oskar Linden: and ladies
[15:08] Techwolf Lupindo grins
[15:08] Yann Dufaux: hey where moon?
[15:09] Oskar Linden: welcome once again to the incredibly awesome ebta server office hours
[15:09] Oskar Linden: well
[15:09] Oskar Linden: Moon has decided she cannot participate anymore
[15:09] Oskar Linden: I am very sad, but she has her reasons
[15:09] Lil Linden: :-(
[15:09] Oskar Linden: so she will not be joing us anymore
[15:10] Oskar Linden: she would be the one to relay info from other linden office hours
[15:10] Yann Dufaux: :((
[15:10] Oskar Linden: she kept this wreckless train on track
[15:11] Yann Dufaux: I can understend!
[15:11] Oskar Linden: ok
[15:11] Oskar Linden: well
[15:11] Oskar Linden: on to the agenda
[15:11] Oskar Linden: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Beta_Server_Office_Hours#Agenda
[15:11] Saijanai Kuhn: anyone see RUth with Saijanai hair besides me?
[15:12] Twisted Laws: yeah
[15:12] Ardy Lay: I do too.
[15:12] Twisted Laws: u grew boobs
[15:12] Saijanai Kuhn: hrm. Well at least the hair rezzed
[15:12] Oskar Linden: nice Saijanai
[15:12] Saijanai Kuhn: I'm 100lbs overweight. I already HAVE boobs
[15:12] Oskar Linden: Lil, why is Ruth back?
[15:12] Saijanai Kuhn: relogging again
[15:12] Lil Linden: in a way, ruth never left
[15:12] Oskar Linden: ok
[15:13] Oskar Linden: let me rephrase
[15:13] Oskar Linden: Lil, why are we seeing Ruth again
[15:13] Lil Linden: I don't know :)
[15:13] Oskar Linden: fair enough
[15:13] Techwolf Lupindo: I don't see any ruths here.
[15:13] Twisted Laws: normal (?) now Saij
[15:13] Psi Merlin: WB Sai - that looks better.
[15:13] Saijanai Kuhn: still cloudy to me
[15:13] Oskar Linden: uh oh Saijanai
[15:14] Oskar Linden: it's not Ruth
[15:14] Oskar Linden: but Bubba her 3rd cousin
[15:14] Saijanai Kuhn: there we go
[15:14] Saijanai Kuhn: Prokofy used to tell me that my ugly avatar reflected my ugly personality.
[15:14] Oskar Linden: that's sad
[15:14] Saijanai Kuhn: When I told him that it was ore or less true to life, he accused me of having no imagination
[15:15] Oskar Linden: you can't win
[15:15] Oskar Linden: ok, so enough about prokofy :-D
[15:15] Oskar Linden: the open issues are still open
[15:15] Oskar Linden: I don't think 1.32.1 had any specific fixes for them
[15:16] Oskar Linden: I guess we can move onto updates
[15:16] Oskar Linden: my biggest concern right now is getting more people into ADITI to test their content
[15:17] Oskar Linden: I see many angry jira's from people who are surprised by bugs that creep into AGNI
[15:17] Oskar Linden: posjump is one
[15:17] Oskar Linden: there is a linking bug now
[15:17] Oskar Linden: I really want to see SL content developers taking advantage of the ADITI headstart
[15:18] Lil Linden: any ideas on how to get the word out to them?
[15:18] Leyla Linden is Online
[15:18] Ardy Lay: I got treated rather poorly when I suggested to some people that they should bring their stuff here to try it out on new server code.
[15:18] Oskar Linden: I have attempted to create more communication on the issue, but still am not seeing more people in this meeting or participating
[15:18] Oskar Linden: really ARdy? That's sad, I'm sorry.
[15:19] Oskar Linden: I will be honest and on the record and say "We can't test everything" .
[15:19] Oskar Linden: you can quote me on that
[15:19] Ardy Lay: The most polite reply I got was something like 'It's not my job to test LL software. They should have staff to do that.'
[15:19] Psi Merlin: It helps to have an idea where the changes are and what to focus on - but that rather supposes people take an interest in the first place.
[15:20] Oskar Linden: Lil and I have been working on communicating changes
[15:20] Oskar Linden: but even without communicating all changes posjump could have been noticed to be broken
[15:20] Oskar Linden: the megaprims linking thing would have been noticed
[15:20] Psi Merlin: and I understand the problems when you can't always talk about stuff for various reasons.
[15:20] Ardy Lay: I don't tend to use things that seem to be working outside of original intentions, like that numeric trick for moving a prim.
[15:21] Oskar Linden: true.
[15:21] Oskar Linden: there are hacks that are not officially supported
[15:21] Oskar Linden: but they are in the sense that we don't want to break them until we have a replacement
[15:21] Oskar Linden: I don't want to break peoples content
[15:21] Leyla Linden is Offline
[15:21] Ardy Lay: I understand, Oskar.
[15:22] Oskar Linden: if content developers gave their stuff a once over on here, just a quick sanity pass, then they could see if things might have broken or not
[15:22] Psi Merlin: The forums show how little many of the posters understand about developing for and running large scale infrastructure.
[15:22] Oskar Linden: how can I communicate that?
[15:22] Oskar Linden: one resident suggested that I have an automated way to copy people and inventories over
[15:23] Oskar Linden: I don't think that will help.
[15:23] Twisted Laws: is it possible to post a "global" message on xstreet to vendors?
[15:23] Oskar Linden: I currently copy people over as soon as they request it and I only get like 1 request a week
[15:23] Oskar Linden: that is an interesting point Twisted
[15:23] Lil Linden was about to say the same thing :)
[15:23] Oskar Linden: I'll see maybe if Torley can help communicate or the ecommerce team can on xstreet
[15:23] Psi Merlin: I try to spread the word about what's happing on the gris - in general conversations and at my monthly 'Region' office hours.
[15:24] Oskar Linden: I'd really like to see ADITI much more active than it is
[15:24] Oskar Linden: most of the bugs that become large issues on AGNI could be fixed here so easily
[15:24] Twisted Laws: idk... its a good place to come work on things without getting bothered :p
[15:24] Oskar Linden: posjump was a simple fix
[15:24] Oskar Linden: it's the deploy to AGNI that takes time
[15:25] Psi Merlin: I suspect many developers aren't really interested in testing - and can simple 'blame the lindens' when things break - even when it's their own fault.
[15:25] Ardy Lay: I kinda thought the pilot regions would have signaled such issues.
[15:25] Oskar Linden: we get requests a lot for rollbakcs and that is just not practical unless a bug is so horrendous it threatens the grids existence
[15:26] Ardy Lay: Yeah, that's the culture now, "Blame the Lindens". I hate that.
[15:26] Oskar Linden: the pilot regions are a last test kind of thing
[15:26] Twisted Laws: posjump was identified in pilot the first day
[15:26] Oskar Linden: but even at that point, what was a simple bug fix the week before now holds up deployment
[15:26] Lil Linden: the pilot is not going to give us enoug time to fix bugs
[15:26] Oskar Linden: the pilot is how make sure we don't explode the grid
[15:27] Twisted Laws: :)
[15:27] Andrew Linden is Offline
[15:27] Techwolf Lupindo: Right now, there are sims dub from main grid. But for content creators to test there stuff here, need more sandboxes or just a general area that has build rights with about two or more sim running different version. Right now, there isn't an area for testing other then, fly till you find a build spot.
[15:27] Oskar Linden: ok
[15:27] Psi Merlin: I think many regions wouldn't want to pilot in case stuff breaks and hurts their club, market or whatever.
[15:27] Oskar Linden: note to self. have more areas for testing and communicate them
[15:28] Techwolf Lupindo: My biggest PITA now, inventory refresh. How many content creaters are going to test there there stuff they just got done on main grid when they can't move it here. A lot of stuff is built in world and can't be easllly exported.
[15:28] Ardy Lay: Oskar, regions like Lusk are not really getting used here, are they? That's where my house is but that region only helps me and I am not a content creator.
[15:29] Oskar Linden: the inv refresh thing is interesting and it is a good point
[15:29] Psi Merlin: Personally I feel if something is going to break I rather it do it in pilot - maybe I get the pain, but you guys are looking out for trouble and will work to fix it.
[15:29] Oskar Linden: I have been hesitant making it an automated process because of content theft types of reason
[15:30] Ardy Lay: Can it be automated for people that "sign up" for it?
[15:30] Techwolf Lupindo: Oskar, My sujestion to Vector was a web page for account users to press a button and set a flag so when we log in here, inventory refresh.
[15:30] Oskar Linden: I bet it probably could...
[15:30] Oskar Linden: the trouble with that is that we need to go to web design
[15:30] Oskar Linden: and put in a request
[15:30] Oskar Linden: and get it developed
[15:30] Oskar Linden: and then designed
[15:30] Psi Merlin: Refresh on (automated) request would be nice.
[15:31] Oskar Linden: and then qa'd and then deployed
[15:31] Oskar Linden: and it will take 4 months
[15:31] Techwolf Lupindo: Also, I just check my groups list. They are over a year old and I got some invite only groups wiht prevligies and I can't do that over here.
[15:31] Oskar Linden: the idea of a list is interesting to me
[15:31] Oskar Linden: hey lil
[15:31] Lil Linden: hey
[15:31] Oskar Linden: let's say we had a tool of our own
[15:31] Oskar Linden: a shellscript
[15:31] Oskar Linden: with a list of account names
[15:31] Oskar Linden: in a text file
[15:31] Oskar Linden: and we cron'd it
[15:31] Oskar Linden: on a local machine
[15:32] Lil Linden: for imports?
[15:32] Oskar Linden: for inv transfers
[15:32] Oskar Linden: and it ran once a night
[15:32] Techwolf Lupindo: Oskar, good short term soluction while waiting for the web team to code up a page.
[15:32] Lil Linden: would people not mind their Aditi inv getting Agnified every night?
[15:32] Psi Merlin: If there is a way we could help I'm sure we would.
[15:32] Oskar Linden: ok lil. we can talk about it offline
[15:33] Oskar Linden: actually lil and I are never offline
[15:33] Lil Linden: kk
[15:33] Oskar Linden: that statement means nothing
[15:33] Lil Linden: :)
[15:33] Oskar Linden: it's true
[15:33] Lil Linden just got his implant last week
[15:33] Oskar Linden: last night lil sets his away status to HALFWAY THROUGH A BOTTLE OF BEER AND NEED PIZZA
[15:33] Oskar Linden: i mean wine
[15:33] Lil Linden: haha
[15:34] Psi Merlin: Make sure people can store stuff inworld here if the inv sync is automatic.
[15:34] Oskar Linden: but yeah. he cared enough to tell the whole copmany
[15:34] Oskar Linden: or those who were in IRC at 11pm
[15:34] Lil Linden: roger, psi
[15:34] Techwolf Lupindo: Can someone do an account refresh? I like to get my groups regreshed.
[15:34] Oskar Linden: the groups thing is different
[15:34] Oskar Linden: if a group has been created on AGNI and isn't here yet updating your inv means nothing
[15:35] Techwolf Lupindo: Psi, store stuff on a no auto-return plot.
[15:35] Oskar Linden: right. objects on ground, no auto return would stay
[15:35] Andrew Linden is Online
[15:35] Oskar Linden: like a locker :-D
[15:35] Techwolf Lupindo: groups and inventory are seperate.
[15:35] Oskar Linden: I understand TL
[15:35] Leyla Linden is Online
[15:35] Oskar Linden: inv/account my bad
[15:35] Techwolf Lupindo smiels
[15:35] Oskar Linden: but copying your account over will show a blank group
[15:36] Oskar Linden: since the ADITI db doesn't have it yet
[15:36] Techwolf Lupindo: The groups that i'me in are well over a year old.
[15:36] Psi Merlin: Of course - peope just need to know where's safe.
[15:36] Oskar Linden: hrm
[15:36] Oskar Linden: I guess that is another conversation for lil and I to have afterwards
[15:37] Oskar Linden: looks like we put Twisted and Saijanai to sleep
[15:37] Oskar Linden: first person to take a compromising pic of Twisted gets an L$
[15:37] Lil Linden: quick, get a bowl of hot water
[15:38] Techwolf Lupindo: When I get updates from vender on the main grid, it would be nice just to hop to here and do a quick run tough test here.
[15:38] Oskar Linden: what vendor?
[15:38] Saijanai Kuhn nevert sleeps (its a debug setting)
[15:38] Techwolf Lupindo: content makers venders.
[15:38] Twisted Laws: ah, was reading but eating at the same time :p
[15:38] Oskar Linden: :-D
[15:38] Oskar Linden: Lil and I will talk about how to get inv on here sooner
[15:38] Oskar Linden: and the groups thing
[15:39] Oskar Linden: I will make a meeting
[15:39] Oskar Linden waves his hand authoritatively
[15:39] Techwolf Lupindo: Sence inventory is a one way things. I don't think there is much worrry about dupe bugs.
[15:39] Oskar Linden: dupe bugs?
[15:39] Twisted Laws: all hail the great Oskar
[15:40] Techwolf Lupindo: Dupe bugs, common term used in games that copies objects.
[15:40] Oskar Linden: ah
[15:40] Techwolf Lupindo: no-copy here
[15:41] Oskar Linden: alright so Lil, you wanna talk about how the 1.32.1 roll went?
[15:41] Oskar Linden moves right along
[15:41] Lil Linden: Sure!
[15:41] Lil Linden: It went pretty smoothly with one exception
[15:41] Lil Linden: you may have noticed some TP failures and other anomalies during the deploy
[15:42] Oskar Linden: anomalies like no notecard uploads
[15:42] Lil Linden: apparently Apache didn't want to restart on 1-2% of our simnodes
[15:42] Lil Linden: yeah
[15:42] Lil Linden: so I had to clean those up
[15:42] Oskar Linden: you'd think it's no biggie. I mean it's jsut a web server right?
[15:42] Lil Linden: it was a deploy-only issue though, so it shouldn't linger
[15:42] Lil Linden: yeah :)
[15:42] Techwolf Lupindo: Had a couple tp failures, but no tp fail and crash logout.
[15:43] Oskar Linden: turns out having apache running on our simhosts is a fairly critical thing
[15:43] Oskar Linden: :-p
[15:43] Techwolf Lupindo: What is that apache doing on there in the first place?
[15:43] Oskar Linden: stuff
[15:43] Lil Linden: a lot of our backend services are web services
[15:44] Lil Linden: these days people like to make everything run over HttP
[15:44] Oskar Linden: listening for things
[15:44] Lil Linden: :)
[15:44] Oskar Linden: then telling things back
[15:44] Leyla Linden is Offline
[15:44] Lil Linden: oskar is giving the technical description
[15:44] Techwolf Lupindo: If doing things that need to scale, there is a lot of software and hardware that scales http up nicely.
[15:44] Oskar Linden: well on the scale we have using a single instance of apache per sim host seems to work well
[15:44] Lil Linden: yeah, HTTP is tried & true. You can cache it, you can loadbalance it.. you can eat it on a train, on a plane
[15:45] Psi Merlin: when it's borked things go all wierd - to be technical about it :)
[15:45] Oskar Linden: we are doing a lot with HTTP in the backend these days
[15:45] Lil Linden: I could kill apache on this sim and you'll see what happens :-)
[15:45] Oskar Linden: understanding HTTP is essential for QA
[15:45] Techwolf Lupindo: http can be a very lightwieght protucule, "GET /" is all that is needed. But if done improperlly, can be a real nightmare.
[15:45] Oskar Linden: you would be surprised how many people in interviews can't even tell me what it does
[15:45] Lil Linden: no doubt, TW
[15:46] Oskar Linden: sure turn off apache here Lil
[15:46] Oskar Linden: do it
[15:46] Twisted Laws: haha
[15:46] Oskar Linden: let's see what happens
[15:46] Techwolf Lupindo: do it, can't hurt nothing on here? Right?
[15:46] Oskar Linden: nope
[15:46] Oskar Linden: hi Suae. welcome
[15:46] Suae Mesic: ty
[15:47] Techwolf Lupindo: Oh, i've heared the land buy has been fixed here?
[15:47] Lil Linden: done
[15:47] Oskar Linden: that is the rumor TL
[15:47] Lil Linden: apache is off
[15:47] Lil Linden: :)
[15:47] Ovaltine Constantine: Would it cause "Could not upload (script/gesture/whatever) because the server is having unexpected difficulties"?
[15:47] Object: Hello, Avatar!
[15:47] Techwolf Lupindo watches for smoke...
[15:47] Lil Linden: things get weird
[15:47] Object: Hello, Avatar!
[15:47] Psi Merlin: Hi Suae - don't panic the Linden boys are jsut playing with the sim.
[15:47] bacon sammach plane whispers: Mode: Hover
[15:47] bacon sammach plane whispers: Emergency brake disengaged.
[15:47] Oskar Linden: wait... it let me save a notecard
[15:48] Oskar Linden: u sure it's off?
[15:48] Oskar Linden: tell me you are on ADITI and not AGNI lil
[15:48] Ovaltine Constantine: Teehee
[15:48] Twisted Laws: ^^
[15:49] Lil Linden: I think it is
[15:49] Lil Linden: yeah
[15:49] Lil Linden: stopped some more stuff
[15:49] Lil Linden: for kicks
[15:49] Lil Linden: this sim is gonna suck in a few seconds
[15:49] Oskar Linden: I can still upload notecards
[15:49] Lil Linden: wacky
[15:49] Object: Hello, Avatar!
[15:50] Ardy Lay: Maybe that suck will clear out a few stray prims. :-)

[15:50] Lil Linden: OH
[15:50] Lil Linden: sim3006
[15:50] Lil Linden: I was messing with 3002
[15:50] Techwolf Lupindo lol
[15:50] Oskar Linden: dude
[15:50] Oskar Linden: we talked about this in your weekly review
[15:50] Oskar Linden: Attention to Detail
[15:50] Techwolf Lupindo: I wonder who was in 3002...
[15:50] Techwolf Lupindo lol
[15:50] Oskar Linden: oh man
[15:50] Oskar Linden: haha
[15:50] Ovaltine Constantine: Cant even break the sim correctly...
[15:50] Twisted Laws: why's that smoke rolling off Oskar's av?
[15:50] Lil Linden: ok
[15:51] Lil Linden: now it's gonna suck :)
[15:51] Lil Linden: second life never breaks when you want it to
[15:51] Oskar Linden: ladies and gentlemen... I give you Lil. The LL Relase Manager
[15:51] Lil Linden: only when you don't
[15:51] Psi Merlin: I've got 3006 from http-in
[15:51] Oskar Linden: release engineer
[15:51] bacon sammach plane whispers: Mode: Hover
[15:51] bacon sammach plane whispers: Emergency brake disengaged.

[15:51] Lil Linden: DIE!
[15:51] Oskar Linden: note card uplaods banned
[15:51] Oskar Linden: if the sim does die
[15:51] Ardy Lay: Yea, lost database access?
[15:51] Richard Linden is Online
[15:51] Lil Linden: muahahaha
[15:51] Oskar Linden: it's been nice knowing all of you
[15:51] Twisted Laws: yeah, debug log's getting errors
[15:52] Lil Linden: now you know what to look for when apache's dead
[15:52] Twisted Laws: haha
[15:52] Lil Linden: you can impress support & dnoc
[15:52] Techwolf Lupindo: Ooo..that error messages explains a lot. Now I know what is causing it when I get it again. I LOVE the helpfull erros messages in SL. :-)
[15:53] Lil Linden restarted all necessary services :)
[15:53] Techwolf Lupindo: map still works.
[15:53] Oskar Linden: oh how did that happen?
[15:53] Oskar Linden: map is different I think
