Transcript of Andrew Linden's office hours:

[17:03] Meta Mart Warehouse ( 6 Prim ): Doubledown Tandino is now following your updates on metaLIFE. To see Doubledown Tandino's profile, wear metaHUD, go to Friends tab and click 'Friend Requests'
[17:04] TIGGS Beaumont gave you Jack Linden.
[17:04] Simon Linden: That would do it
[17:04] Lela Parx gave you problems in Nova Albion not being taken care of!!.
[17:04] Seemok Capalini gave you Question about vehicle behaviour from Seemok Capalini.
[17:05] Sindy Tsure: hiya andrew
[17:05] Sindy Tsure: just saying that the status blog says logins are disabled..
[17:05] Andrew Linden: hello
[17:05] Sindy Tsure no longer sees andrew
[17:05] Sindy Tsure: oops!
[17:06] Sindy Tsure: if you didn't see it..
[17:06] Sindy Tsure: [17:05] Sindy Tsure: just saying that the status blog says logins are disabled..
[17:06] Andrew Linden: status page for the main SL grid?
[17:06] Sindy Tsure: yep
[17:06] Andrew Linden: hrm...
[17:07] Sindy Tsure: http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2008/10/30/post301/
[17:07] Sindy Tsure: possibly the cause of the small crowd here tonight
[17:07] Sindy Tsure: if you guys want to bail early, i don't really have anything...
[17:07] Sindy Tsure was gonna ask about openspaces but i can live without it :)
[17:07] Andrew Linden: Well our internal grid tool says it is "up"... but that doesn't necessarily mean logins are working
[17:08] Sindy Tsure: sometimes the blog takes a bit to be updated too
[17:08] Sindy Tsure: logins are going back up.. 60k now.. was 58 or so a few minutes ago
[17:09] Andrew Linden: Ok. I wonder what kind of excitement was going on in our #ops IRC channel
[17:09] Simon Linden: yeah, let's not use the 'O' word here
[17:09] Sindy Tsure: we can talk about sheep instead, if you'd like
[17:09] Sindy Tsure amuses herself
[17:10] Simon Linden: looks like our database was unhappy but has recovered
[17:10] Andrew Linden: my sound was way down... I felt disconnected because I couldn't hear the typing sound
[17:10] Andrew Linden: much better
[17:11] Simon Linden: I actually have a sheep - incredibly hard to shear them (particularly when you don't have experience)
[17:11] Andrew Linden: Alas Sindy I don't have much news to report.
[17:11] Andrew Linden: Simon how many sheep to you have?
[17:11] Simon Linden: all of 1 - plus a goat
[17:11] Andrew Linden: ah
[17:11] Sindy Tsure waffles between having her rezzer on and off..
[17:11] Sindy Tsure: i need to change 'pin' to trigger on 'tack' or something.. pin is too easy
[17:12] Simon Linden: They are cast-offs - the goat was a school classroom pet, and I forget the she-p's story but they came as a pair
[17:12] Andrew Linden: Alright, well Simon do you have any interesting SL news ?
[17:13] Andrew Linden: We could cut this hour short. I've got lots of C++ code to write ;-)
[17:13] Simon Linden: Not really
[17:13] Sindy Tsure cant tell is simon is joking about the animals..
[17:14] Simon Linden: No, it's real. I live out in the country
[17:14] Sindy Tsure: oh..
[17:14] Sindy Tsure: 1.25 getting close? saw prospero talking about beta grid but haven't payed much attention?
[17:15] Andrew Linden: server-1.25 had a crash bug that I had introduced with the 64bit project
[17:15] Andrew Linden: however luckily we discovered it early and it is already fixed
[17:15] Andrew Linden: I think the server-1.25 deployment is set for next week? lemme double check
[17:16] Sindy Tsure: you had talked about cutting the fps of empty sims down, simon.. did that make it in?
[17:16] Andrew Linden: No, not next week... the week after.
[17:16] Simon Linden: I see the start of the roll on 11/3, but sitting on a few sims for a week
[17:17] Simon Linden: Sindy - no, that's sitting on my machine as prototype code. The big problem with it is it totally messes up our back-end monitoring systems
[17:17] Sindy Tsure: oh.. they always expect it to be 45 fps?
[17:17] Simon Linden: All of a sudden we'd have a ton of regions reporting slow frame rates and messing with alarms, historical data, etc
[17:17] Sindy Tsure nods
[17:17] Sindy Tsure: some other perf stuff made it into 1.25?
[17:17] Simon Linden: We have lots of tracking systems that report on the grid health and such
[17:18] Simon Linden: I'd have to look ... I think there are a few things in there, nothing really major but hopefully some incremental improvements
[17:18] Sindy Tsure will take them!
[17:19] Sindy Tsure: hm.. checked about sheep, 1.25 update, got told not to ask about the O word..
[17:19] Sindy Tsure: that's all i've got
[17:19] Simon Linden: The following release (1.26) will have more
[17:19] Sindy Tsure has to figure out why they don't always stand up.. driving me nuts..
[17:20] Sindy Tsure: short meeting then?
[17:20] Andrew Linden: Why the she*p don't always stand up?
[17:20] Sindy Tsure nods
[17:20] Sindy Tsure: sheep
[17:20] Andrew Linden: how is it supposed to stand?
[17:20] Simon Linden: I'd guess on feet?
[17:20] Sindy Tsure: they just drop.. then the script does a physical look at 0,0,whatever
[17:20] Sindy Tsure: and moveToTarget up a bit
[17:21] Andrew Linden: oh hrm...
[17:21] Sindy Tsure also put a hack in so that every turn, they go non-physical and llSetRot to 0 x and y if they're leaning at all
[17:21] Simon Linden: Maybe you should just set the rotation at some point
[17:21] Andrew Linden: I think you could get them to stand up with some special vehicle parameters
[17:21] Sindy Tsure: llSetRot gets ignored on physical object.. think i have to do a llLookAt
[17:21] Simon Linden: Are they vehicles?
[17:22] Sindy Tsure: could be, andrew!
[17:22] Sindy Tsure: no.. you can ride them, though
[17:22] Andrew Linden: no probably not vehicles, but you could make them vehicles and get them to land on their feet
[17:22] Andrew Linden: however, cats always land on their feet
[17:22] Andrew Linden: not necessarily sheep
[17:22] Sindy Tsure: wasn't intended that way but they sorta came out a bit non-pg
[17:22] Andrew Linden: Yeah, let
[17:23] Sindy Tsure: drat.. a leaner
[17:23] Sindy Tsure asks for another sheep
[17:23] Andrew Linden: sheep
[17:23] Sindy Tsure: anyway.. you get the idea :)
[17:24] Sindy Tsure: the script is crap.. just wrote it up quick
[17:24] Sindy Tsure: then poked at it
[17:24] Sindy Tsure turns temp off on that one
[17:25] Sindy Tsure: i suspect i'm not doing a stopLookAt or something when i try to force it to stand
[17:25] Sindy Tsure will figure it out
[17:25] Simon Linden: ok, I'm going to run. Thanks for coming Sindy
[17:25] Andrew Linden: Yeah, I suspect script error, but I didn't see it after a quick examination.
[17:25] Sindy Tsure: ty, guys!
[17:25] Simon Linden: bye
[17:25] Andrew Linden: ok Sindy, see ya.
[17:25] Sindy Tsure: cyas!
[17:26] Sindy Tsure: ty for looking, andrew :)
[17:26] Sindy Tsure drops sheeps on andrew and runs away
[17:26] Andrew Linden: hehe
