[2008/12/11 12:01] Torley Linden shouts: OMG FRIENDLY GREETINGS!
[2008/12/11 12:01] XLR8RRICK Hudson: Hiya Ole
[2008/12/11 12:01] Siobhan McCallen: Heya!
[2008/12/11 12:02] Torley Linden: thank you for coming!!!
[2008/12/11 12:02] Torley Linden: and being earlier than me, for that matter.
[2008/12/11 12:02] XLR8RRICK Hudson: hey everyone
[2008/12/11 12:02] Torley Linden: 1 minute late is still late for me *blush*
[2008/12/11 12:02] Marianne McCann: Greetings of a friendly kind, Torley!
[2008/12/11 12:02] Torley Linden: hehehe
[2008/12/11 12:02] Ole Etzel: hi torley
[2008/12/11 12:02] Crap Mariner: hi
[2008/12/11 12:02] Jaymes Kjeller: Hey Torley! :)
[2008/12/11 12:02] Marianne McCann: How's th' new 'puter? Gettin them freezes?
[2008/12/11 12:02] Squirrel Wood: Ta!
[2008/12/11 12:03] XLR8RRICK Hudson: Greetings Torley
[2008/12/11 12:03] Asher Dufaux: excuse me, hi everybocy
[2008/12/11 12:03] Damani Roadster 0.50 - watermelon: You are not the owner...
[2008/12/11 12:03] Car1: llStopAnimation: Script trying to stop animations but agent not found
[2008/12/11 12:03] Car1: llStopAnimation: Script trying to stop animations but agent not found
[2008/12/11 12:03] Torley Linden: i'll first begin with an announcement, not of sadness... but nonetheless... this will be my *last* office hour at this time for a number of reasons. the GOOD news is... in the future, i'm counting on holding office hours at DIFFERENT times, maybe some here, maybe at other locations. and i'll be attending Documentation Team office hours because... LL recently reorg'ed and i'm on Doc Team alongside Jon, Jeremy, and Kate now!
[2008/12/11 12:03] Ewan Mureaux: sorry squirel
[2008/12/11 12:03] Torley Linden: speaking of, there's Kate!
[2008/12/11 12:03] Torley Linden: and yes Mari, i have had some pretty troubling freezes.
[2008/12/11 12:03] Marianne McCann: Aww.... but sounds like a good team t'work with!
[2008/12/11 12:04] Torley Linden: in some areas worse than others, like a SLURL i posted to the Issue Tracker.
[2008/12/11 12:04] Kate Linden: hey Torley :)
[2008/12/11 12:04] Torley Linden: but i'll keep trying to use SL on this Mac Pro w/8800GT. it's just such a maddening thing because i know it's an excellent card, but for whatever (drivers?) reason, it's really being stupid on my setup.
[2008/12/11 12:04] Marianne McCann: Ya, I've heard a LOT about the freezes on that system configuration. Seems to be agrivated with alphas, too
[2008/12/11 12:04] XLR8RRICK Hudson: the RC2 crashes on me consistantly
[2008/12/11 12:04] Torley Linden: i haven't tried running Boot Camp.
[2008/12/11 12:04] RacerX Gullwing gave you Happy Holidays card From RacerX 2008.
[2008/12/11 12:04] Torley Linden: but there's no better way to understand THE PAIN than experience it day in and day out...
[2008/12/11 12:05] Torley Linden: and certainly, that's a very long and complicated issue.
[2008/12/11 12:05] Siobhan McCallen: had some shape problems with the RC2
[2008/12/11 12:05] Jaymes Kjeller: Never let it be said that Lindens arn't immune to fustration, like the rest of us. :)
[2008/12/11 12:05] Torley Linden: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7779
[2008/12/11 12:05] Torley Linden: yes Jaymes, actually i've always made it a passion to jump right into the frustration
[2008/12/11 12:05] Marianne McCann: Oh yes. Robin's been working with that now for months. Hard for hr to even use the ice rink she's been building sometimes cuz of it
[2008/12/11 12:05] Torley Linden: so i know what it's like, firsthand... from small bugs to very big ones
[2008/12/11 12:05] Squirrel Wood: I have noticed that a LOT of office hours have either been canceled or reduced considerably.
[2008/12/11 12:05] Torley Linden: and welcome welcome each & everyone to my office hour
[2008/12/11 12:05] Crap Mariner: will they be posted on the google calendar?
[2008/12/11 12:06] Torley Linden: Squirrel, who else's? there may be different reasons. in mine, i'm definitely not canceling, just moving them around.
[2008/12/11 12:06] Torley Linden: Crap, some will. but i plan to announce on Twitter every time i have one.
[2008/12/11 12:06] Crap Mariner: cool k
[2008/12/11 12:06] Squirrel Wood: Zero Linden... down to one hour. Used to hold two each week. Benjamin/Grant/Malbers from weekly to one per month
[2008/12/11 12:06] Torley Linden: in a way, yes... i know, less scheduled.. but it goes back to my roots of being so spontaneous.
[2008/12/11 12:06] Marianne McCann: Squirrel - and no office hours at all for GTeam
[2008/12/11 12:06] Torley Linden: ( http://twitter.com/torley if you don't know )
[2008/12/11 12:07] Torley Linden: there's been a lot of changes, more than the "usual" @ LL.
[2008/12/11 12:07] XLR8RRICK Hudson: its getting closer to christmas and schedules will be interupted some
[2008/12/11 12:07] Torley Linden: yes, holidays definitely have an effect on that, too.
[2008/12/11 12:07] Crap Mariner: have you gotten Sushi presents yet?
[2008/12/11 12:07] Torley Linden: we may be making the splash screen look wintery...
[2008/12/11 12:08] Squirrel Wood: I would love to see an inworld hud/whiteboard that lists all ongoing and upcoming office hours.... would make it easier for all Lindens... and resis.
[2008/12/11 12:08] Torley Linden: haha Crap, i figure EVERY day is Xmas for him, we got this new Tiki wild seafood for him... he loves it... apparently.
[2008/12/11 12:08] Ole Etzel: torley yous belly is much bigger than me imagined before if it s okay to mention that
[2008/12/11 12:08] Torley Linden: Squirrel, a masterboard yeah. we've tried Gcal but it's been a kludge for some people to update.
[2008/12/11 12:08] Crap Mariner: mechanized life makes a great google to board calendar display
[2008/12/11 12:08] XLR8RRICK Hudson: the Calender is good but not 100%
[2008/12/11 12:08] XLR8RRICK Hudson: http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=c2g7djaua9j4he8c6d0iu7n7k8%40group.calendar.google.com
[2008/12/11 12:08] Torley Linden: Gcal isn't the easiest to say "oh wait, this is cancelled or moved!" i know you can login and shift blocks, but it's still not... as simple as could be (theoretically speaking).
[2008/12/11 12:08] Torley Linden: i gotta look that up then, Crap.
[2008/12/11 12:08] Jaymes Kjeller: That would be nice, although I don't know if anyone's already made it. Probably not.
[2008/12/11 12:09] Torley Linden: *makes a note*
[2008/12/11 12:09] Torley Linden: Ole, oh that's fine. i'm a real fatty today.
[2008/12/11 12:09] Squirrel Wood: ^^
[2008/12/11 12:09] Torley Linden: TO TO TOTORLEYo
[2008/12/11 12:09] XLR8RRICK Hudson: LOL T
[2008/12/11 12:09] Crap Mariner: alidar moxie makes it. chindogu sim i think
[2008/12/11 12:09] Torley Linden: HAHAHAH CHINDOGU sim? that's BRILLIANt
[2008/12/11 12:09] Torley Linden: i <3 chindogu
[2008/12/11 12:09] Torley Linden: "unuseless inventions"
[2008/12/11 12:09] Kate Linden: Gellan Glenelg has made an OH HUD
[2008/12/11 12:09] Crap Mariner: we have over 25 people on our cal. certainly not as many events, but it's pretty easy to coordinate
[2008/12/11 12:09] Marianne McCann: I read recently that iCal and Google Calendar finally official ytalk to each other too, which is a plus
[2008/12/11 12:09] Torley Linden: do any of you know Dr. Nakamats?
[2008/12/11 12:09] Torley Linden: he invented the floppy disk
[2008/12/11 12:09] Torley Linden: and CD-ROM, apparently. what a great eccentric!
[2008/12/11 12:09] Torley Linden: i love all that elegant integration, Mari
[2008/12/11 12:10] Siobhan McCallen: couldn't be eccentric...wouldn't spin right
[2008/12/11 12:10] Torley Linden: truthfully, it's been night and day on my Mac Pro, some utilities compared to their Windows counterparts are SOOOO ahead
[2008/12/11 12:10] Squirrel Wood: eep
[2008/12/11 12:10] Torley Linden: i currently use Things for to-do on Mac, and sound recording (of voice chat etc.) is a LOT easier too
[2008/12/11 12:10] Torley Linden: i could go on and on
[2008/12/11 12:10] Torley Linden: but really, i'm migrating towards a hybrid Mac-PC system since some of my fave stuff is only on Windows
[2008/12/11 12:10] Marianne McCann ia a big ol' Mac head
[2008/12/11 12:10] Torley Linden: like the whole line of Sony software (Vegas, my video editor)
[2008/12/11 12:10] Squirrel Wood gave you Office Hour Info Board.
[2008/12/11 12:10] Squirrel Wood: not a perfect solution
[2008/12/11 12:10] Torley Linden: thankya Squirrel
[2008/12/11 12:10] Torley Linden: WHEEE particles
[2008/12/11 12:11] Torley Linden: that looks runic!
[2008/12/11 12:11] Kate Linden: Thanks Squirrel
[2008/12/11 12:11] Torley Linden: i want the Benny Lava dance for SL
[2008/12/11 12:11] Patchouli Woollahra: well, some people tend to find this rezzer REAL annoying...
[2008/12/11 12:11] Marianne McCann: That would be a fun one, Torley
[2008/12/11 12:11] Torley Linden: Mari, have you seen the other buffalax videos?
[2008/12/11 12:11] Ole Etzel: always asked meself how you get your video on first site of youtube runnin automatically?
[2008/12/11 12:11] Torley Linden: i didn't find his Tunak Tunak one that funny but Benny Lava is a gem :)
[2008/12/11 12:12] Torley Linden: Ole, GREAT question.,
[2008/12/11 12:12] Marianne McCann: I've seen a few of em, ya
[2008/12/11 12:12] Torley Linden: so, i applied to be a YouTube Partner. and then, while not obvious... that makes it autoplay.
[2008/12/11 12:12] Patchouli Woollahra spent part of today overclocking a Reality Distortion Field Generator. Before it went kaboom this spat out: http://tinyurl.com/5fnodv
[2008/12/11 12:12] Torley Linden: Patch, that's a very Jobsian term. *looks*
[2008/12/11 12:12] Patchouli Woollahra: Patchouli Woollahra Day @ Disneyland. How... wacky.
[2008/12/11 12:12] Siobhan McCallen: Torley...brought you a watermelony Chrismas gift
[2008/12/11 12:12] Torley Linden: have any of you played with pixel blenders in Flash 10?
[2008/12/11 12:12] Torley Linden: hahahah Patch, that's great!!
[2008/12/11 12:13] Torley Linden: ohhh awww Siobhan :D
[2008/12/11 12:13] Patchouli Woollahra: I would, but I can't afford to upgrade my copy of CS3 currently.
[2008/12/11 12:13] Patchouli Woollahra: The biggest issue with Adobe right now is that it's charging too much for its tools.
[2008/12/11 12:13] Ole Etzel: easier than me thought ;)
[2008/12/11 12:13] Torley Linden: i'd have to agree that creates a big market opportunity for lower-priced entrants
[2008/12/11 12:13] blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/27451
[2008/12/11 12:13] Siobhan McCallen gave you Henshin Aura Activator - Torley Watermelon (BOXED).
[2008/12/11 12:13] Ewan Mureaux: because people keep going to TPB, so I heard
[2008/12/11 12:13] Patchouli Woollahra: I would really love, right now, for a version that had no free support beyond bugfixes.
[2008/12/11 12:13] Torley Linden: why thank you Siobhan!
[2008/12/11 12:13] Torley Linden: i would reckon so, Ewan
[2008/12/11 12:13] Siobhan McCallen: here's what it does
[2008/12/11 12:14] Ewan Mureaux: i would never honest........
[2008/12/11 12:14] Torley Linden: i looked up how much the CS4 Creative Suite Design i had cost, and it was like, US$1,600
[2008/12/11 12:14] Torley Linden: WHOAAAAAA
[2008/12/11 12:14] Marianne McCann: Ya. CS4 is well beyond my budget, even when I do.... Aie! My eyes!
[2008/12/11 12:14] Patchouli Woollahra: I have CS3 only because I won a design contest.
[2008/12/11 12:14] Torley Linden: for a professional making good money on their stuff, the prices are alright, but there's a hungering hobbyist market, and the economy's tough
[2008/12/11 12:14] Siobhan McCallen: I use 'em for covering av or clothing changes
[2008/12/11 12:14] Torley Linden: wow Siobhan that was mystical!
[2008/12/11 12:14] Torley Linden: i liked that a lot
[2008/12/11 12:14] Patchouli Woollahra: For the lower-end, I prefer to recommend Xara Xtreme.
[2008/12/11 12:14] Jaymes Kjeller: Yeah, I have to agree, Adobe does charge a lot for it's tools.
[2008/12/11 12:15] Marianne McCann: I face the same trouble with Maya, which seems to be about the only way to get decent sculpts in here
[2008/12/11 12:15] Patchouli Woollahra: part of its allure is that it vector engine gains significantly more speed than it loses in quality.
[2008/12/11 12:15] Torley Linden: but even Adobe's pricing is dirt cheap compared to... some even more obscure software i've seen out therr
[2008/12/11 12:15] Patchouli Woollahra: Marianne: Have you tried Hexagon 2.5?
[2008/12/11 12:15] Siobhan McCallen: it's got some of your piano music in it too
[2008/12/11 12:15] Patchouli Woollahra: That would be my mid-range hobbyist recommendation.
[2008/12/11 12:15] Torley Linden: ooooh
[2008/12/11 12:15] Torley Linden: i don't have sound on right now but will have a good listen soon
[2008/12/11 12:15] Torley Linden: hehe i like how Second Life autocorrects my double spaces in chat
[2008/12/11 12:15] Siobhan McCallen: that one's special, a custom Torley model
[2008/12/11 12:15] Torley Linden: i sure do feel speciallll
[2008/12/11 12:16] Patchouli Woollahra: if you have slightly more money, "modo 301" paired with the Lovecraftian Forest prim LXO objecft files is a better alternative.
[2008/12/11 12:16] Marianne McCann: Not yet, Patchouli. Is it Mac-friendly?
[2008/12/11 12:16] Torley Linden: Modo 301 looks like "my kind" of program
[2008/12/11 12:16] Patchouli Woollahra: Mac-Friendly?
[2008/12/11 12:16] Torley Linden: the UI and video tutorial documentation seem very helpful
[2008/12/11 12:16] Squirrel Wood: cs4 is good. but at the price level that they think they need to hold it is not something the average person would buy. So they lose out on sales. and money.
[2008/12/11 12:16] Patchouli Woollahra: Marianne, last time I checked, I found modo 301 reverse cowboying my PowerMac.
[2008/12/11 12:16] XLR8RRICK Hudson: they are Helpful and the search for them
[2008/12/11 12:16] Marianne McCann: Well, a week ago I jointed the ranks of the RL jobless, Patchouli, so right now I'm holding off on software purchases
[2008/12/11 12:17] Torley Linden: Squirrel, yeah. i think they aim it more at design "pros", which leaves a lot of room for the hobbyist market. or at least, Photoshop Elements (and other "LE" versions of Adobe stuff)
[2008/12/11 12:17] Patchouli Woollahra: me too.
[2008/12/11 12:17] Ewan Mureaux: i started doing modo tutorials and made half a shoe, then got distracted by the internet and never went back :(
[2008/12/11 12:17] Patchouli Woollahra: btw, did you ever get to run that Groboto thing, Torley?
[2008/12/11 12:17] Squirrel Wood prefers the full product to some crippled version
[2008/12/11 12:17] Torley Linden: not recently Patch, i tried it a long time ago and it was very beautiful
[2008/12/11 12:17] Patchouli Woollahra: Ewan: I see you bought the Intro to modo package?
[2008/12/11 12:17] Ewan Mureaux: *bought* yes...........
[2008/12/11 12:17] Patchouli Woollahra: the shoe tutorial for modo is a most excellent way to begin with modo's simpler tools.
[2008/12/11 12:17] Torley Linden: Squirrel, i guess that depends too on how the features are segmented, and your needs
[2008/12/11 12:17] Patchouli Woollahra: They're selling it for US$200 less currently for Christmas.
[2008/12/11 12:18] Torley Linden: Final Cut Express looks pretty good for the features it doesn't have (oddly enough, Apple's site doesn't have an easy comparison... how unusual of them)
[2008/12/11 12:18] Patchouli Woollahra: if you're a student, they offer a one-year license for a tenth of the normal price.
[2008/12/11 12:18] Torley Linden: there are a number of holiday sales going on right now,
[2008/12/11 12:18] Torley Linden: and aye, academic pricing... sometimes... very good deals!
[2008/12/11 12:18] Patchouli Woollahra: and if you're a valedictorian, they will chop that price further as a reward for excellent GPAs.
[2008/12/11 12:18] Torley Linden: i've been eyeying Final Cut but, for my purposes, Sony Vegas is still preferred
[2008/12/11 12:18] Patchouli Woollahra: (GPAs of 4.0+)
[2008/12/11 12:18] Torley Linden: wow really Patch, i didn't know of programmes like that!
[2008/12/11 12:18] Ole Etzel: or just write letter to santa ;]
[2008/12/11 12:19] Patchouli Woollahra: Luxology is run by people with vision and purpose, what can I say?
[2008/12/11 12:19] Jaymes Kjeller: You can use Academic Pricing, but sometimes, it can have conditions stuck to them.
[2008/12/11 12:19] Torley Linden: i recently bought Native Instruments Komplete 5 + Kore 2 for US$875 but am awaiting US$200 cashback from eBay :)
[2008/12/11 12:19] Torley Linden: Patch, i love "vision AND purpose".
[2008/12/11 12:19] Patchouli Woollahra: Sometimes, those conditions can be very hard to enforce, so they rely on your honesty.
[2008/12/11 12:19] Torley Linden: Native Instruments is a leading manufacturer of software synthesis but they make hardware controllers (like the Kore 2) too.
[2008/12/11 12:19] Torley Linden: how this is relevant: some of them like Second Life a lot...
[2008/12/11 12:19] Patchouli Woollahra: each has their strong points, Torley.
[2008/12/11 12:20] Torley Linden: and so when i wrote to them for tech support, the guy was like, "i've seen your video tutorials!"
[2008/12/11 12:20] Torley Linden: that was a great moment
[2008/12/11 12:20] Ewan Mureaux: i did a tutorial on broadcasting with traktor last week
[2008/12/11 12:20] Patchouli Woollahra: So does that help you get more discounts? ^^;
[2008/12/11 12:20] Torley Linden: oh really Ewan! cool! where is that?
[2008/12/11 12:20] Torley Linden: haha Patch i'd hope so...
[2008/12/11 12:20] Ewan Mureaux: http://metaanswers.org
[2008/12/11 12:20] Torley Linden: ahhh yes
[2008/12/11 12:20] Torley Linden: *looks*
[2008/12/11 12:20] Ewan Mureaux: its a quick sum up of traktor, virtual dj and SAM
[2008/12/11 12:20] Patchouli Woollahra: btw, has anyone seen the new Disney advertising campaign?
[2008/12/11 12:20] Torley Linden: btw if anyone here wants to see a package of really lush, amazing, diverse video plugins (for Vegas, Premiere, Final Cut Pro, etc.) i HIGHLY recommend http://newbluefx.com/
[2008/12/11 12:21] Patchouli Woollahra dropped a taster of it on the way in.
[2008/12/11 12:21] Patchouli Woollahra: it's Flash video... with customised titles in real time.
[2008/12/11 12:21] Patchouli Woollahra: that sound you here is the sound of the future banging very hard on your door.
[2008/12/11 12:21] Kate Linden: I watched the video from the link you dropped Patch. Very clever.
[2008/12/11 12:21] Torley Linden: anytime people ask me what i use to make stuff look more film-like or cool transitions, NewBlue FX are one of the great ways to go... obviously bundles save you a lot of $$$
[2008/12/11 12:21] aetaric Wirefly: oh btw torley...welcome to the world of mac. ^^
[2008/12/11 12:21] Patchouli Woollahra: I'm more of a Video CoPilot fan.
[2008/12/11 12:21] Torley Linden: thanks aetaric, glad to be back. in a manner of speaking, because i got my first mac in 2003!
[2008/12/11 12:22] Torley Linden: Andrew Kramer and friends are awesome, Patch. wish their plugins ran on more than just AE.
[2008/12/11 12:22] Patchouli Woollahra: hehe... I drop all sorts of funny stuff in here.
[2008/12/11 12:22] Torley Linden: i highlighted them in a previous Smashing Magazine article
[2008/12/11 12:22] Torley Linden: (outside of LL i do design blogging)
[2008/12/11 12:22] Tyler Messenger: Friendly Greeting :)
[2008/12/11 12:22] Patchouli Woollahra: Torley: you'll find that AE is like the most common compositor and after-effects program for video. :(
[2008/12/11 12:22] Torley Linden: yes, no doubt Patch, and i'd get into it if i had more time.
[2008/12/11 12:22] Torley Linden: but still... !
[2008/12/11 12:22] Torley Linden: ;D
[2008/12/11 12:22] Miralin Dunheved: I'm sorry if I landed on anyone's head
[2008/12/11 12:23] Torley Linden: oh that's okay, avatar heads are quite endurable
[2008/12/11 12:23] Gini Rossen: hehe me too
[2008/12/11 12:23] Miralin Dunheved chuckles.
[2008/12/11 12:23] Patchouli Woollahra also spent earlier today watching the last episode of EVE No Jikan for the year.
[2008/12/11 12:23] Torley Linden: hey Ewan did you know Howcast started some sort of deal with Hulu.com ? i don't know what their criteria is for featuring videos but... there's some cross-promotional opportunity, it seems.
[2008/12/11 12:23] Patchouli Woollahra: it's a very interesting short-form anime series. Think Cheers with discrimination against androids outside the door.
[2008/12/11 12:24] Patchouli Woollahra: Torley: The Torley Channel.
[2008/12/11 12:24] Ewan Mureaux looks up hulu
[2008/12/11 12:24] Torley Linden: i think it becomes more and more relevant to be aware of what tools can be used to bridge and supplement SL and vice-versa, whether it's artistic creativity, social media, etc.
[2008/12/11 12:24] Patchouli Woollahra: the color scheme will either delight or hurt people's eyes.
[2008/12/11 12:24] Torley Linden: Tyler i really like the... vest, is that what you call it?
[2008/12/11 12:24] Miralin Dunheved giggles.
[2008/12/11 12:24] Tyler Messenger: YAY! \o/
[2008/12/11 12:24] Torley Linden: hahah Patch, make no mistake about that!
[2008/12/11 12:24] Patchouli Woollahra: but if they insist on the same "Only in America" nonsense they pull with so much Hulu content, I'm out.
[2008/12/11 12:25] Torley Linden: oh i remember being SO disappointed when i was in Canada... and i couldn't watch MTV videos online...
[2008/12/11 12:25] Torley Linden: cause it told me "only in America"
[2008/12/11 12:25] Patchouli Woollahra rolls her eyes. "And now that problem is fixed."
[2008/12/11 12:25] Torley Linden: i was like "only in America is a Don King saying!"
[2008/12/11 12:25] Crap Mariner: sounds very don kingish
[2008/12/11 12:25] Miralin Dunheved chuckles.
[2008/12/11 12:25] Gini Rossen: Anyone can help me with this: if you wear a shirt with short sleeves and all the sudden it looks as if you wear long sleeves and gloves, what do you do?
[2008/12/11 12:25] Torley Linden: hahahaha
[2008/12/11 12:25] Miralin Dunheved: Yes it is
[2008/12/11 12:25] Torley Linden: i <3 Don King's enunciation. i don't agree with him about everything, but he's unmistakable.
[2008/12/11 12:25] Ewan Mureaux: rol back your nvidia drivers
[2008/12/11 12:25] Patchouli Woollahra: Gini: give your video card some time to settle down after that. clear cache too.
[2008/12/11 12:26] Marianne McCann: Gini - I seem to recall that being a.... ya, what Ewan jes said
[2008/12/11 12:26] Miralin Dunheved: Oh, I think he's a nutbar but he's a very dynamic speaker.
[2008/12/11 12:26] Gini Rossen: didn't help
[2008/12/11 12:26] Siobhan McCallen: turn off palletized textures until you move to 1.22.2
[2008/12/11 12:26] Torley Linden: nutbar, lol
[2008/12/11 12:26] Ewan Mureaux: or use the rc version of the virewer, or buy an ati and get triangles instead
[2008/12/11 12:26] Miralin Dunheved smiles.
[2008/12/11 12:26] Gini Rossen: but thanks
[2008/12/11 12:26] Torley Linden: i remember first running into that NVIDIA issue... i thought my "Torley Sr." classic avatar was ruined
[2008/12/11 12:26] Miralin Dunheved: I'm doing OK on the RC with my nVidia drivers current
[2008/12/11 12:26] Gini Rossen: smiles
[2008/12/11 12:26] Patchouli Woollahra: I wanna take you to the nutbar, I wanna take you to the nutbar, I wanna take you to the nutbar, to the nutbar, nutbar, nutbar!
[2008/12/11 12:26] Torley Linden: Gini, you already did the usual stuff like Rebake Textures?
[2008/12/11 12:26] Miralin Dunheved: LOL Patchouli
[2008/12/11 12:26] Kate Linden: lol
[2008/12/11 12:26] Gini Rossen: yes
[2008/12/11 12:26] Ewan Mureaux: ugh I did something so embarassing cos of that bug, i wore an open chested t-shirt for a day cos I thought it was closed
[2008/12/11 12:26] Torley Linden: oh you muscle man you, Ewan
[2008/12/11 12:27] Torley Linden: hahaha
[2008/12/11 12:27] Ewan Mureaux: i looked like a tosser
[2008/12/11 12:27] Gini Rossen: uninstalled, emptied all folders, reinstalled sl
[2008/12/11 12:27] Miralin Dunheved: I think most people are fairly understanding when stuff like that happens though.
[2008/12/11 12:27] Patchouli Woollahra: Look on the bright side, you gave a lot of very dirty-minded women in SL a red letter day that way.
[2008/12/11 12:27] Ewan Mureaux: more so than usual!
[2008/12/11 12:27] Ole Etzel: haha no idea what me i m doin wrong but i has no problems wid computer mostly
[2008/12/11 12:27] Jaymes Kjeller: I haven't actually tried the latest RC with palletized textures yet. I'll try it.
[2008/12/11 12:27] Patchouli Woollahra: and possible some men too. let's not be discriminatory.
[2008/12/11 12:27] Torley Linden: you know John Noble, the guy who plays Walter Bishop on Fringe... i saw him in another role as a Russian mafia thug or something, where his chest is exposed and he's swearing at people and threatening them... what an eye-opener!
[2008/12/11 12:27] Miralin Dunheved: I'm having really good luck wtih the RC Jaymes.
[2008/12/11 12:27] Patchouli Woollahra: ditto.
[2008/12/11 12:27] Siobhan McCallen: latest RC doesn't even have the palletized textures in it
[2008/12/11 12:27] Ewan Mureaux: some men? I could turn most
[2008/12/11 12:27] Torley Linden: i haven't tried the latest RC yet... *note to self*
[2008/12/11 12:28] Patchouli Woollahra has been running amok with llDetectedTouchUVs.
[2008/12/11 12:28] Miralin Dunheved: LOL Ewan ... and modest too.
[2008/12/11 12:28] Torley Linden: clickety clickety classic!
[2008/12/11 12:28] Miralin Dunheved winks and smiles.
[2008/12/11 12:28] Siobhan McCallen: I've had some issues with quick changes of avs in the latest RC...av shape does some strange things
[2008/12/11 12:28] Ewan Mureaux: jopsy gave me a great colour selector example a couple of weeks ago with the detected touch stuff
[2008/12/11 12:28] Torley Linden: hey Ole, did you know there's a picture of you in Philip's TED talk...
[2008/12/11 12:28] Siobhan McCallen: if I can repro it reliably, I'll JIRA it
[2008/12/11 12:28] Jaymes Kjeller: Wonder what llDetectedTouchUVs does...
[2008/12/11 12:28] Torley Linden: one where you have watermelon in your mouth, when i was speaking @ Campus Hamburg :)
[2008/12/11 12:28] Miralin Dunheved: OH and it looks like they fixed teh can't-edit-stuff-attached-to-my-chest bug too
[2008/12/11 12:28] Patchouli Woollahra: it basically lets you figure out roughly where on a texture you put your mouse cursor.
[2008/12/11 12:28] Ole Etzel: yep it awesome nearly fainted as me saw, mrs. bones liked it too #)
[2008/12/11 12:29] Patchouli Woollahra: assuming of course, that you use texture definitions that don't cause the texture to repeat.
[2008/12/11 12:29] Torley Linden: for anyone want to see Philip (founder and CEO of Linden Lab) be all inspirational... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHXXsEtE3b4
[2008/12/11 12:29] Patchouli Woollahra: ... unless that is INDEED what you want.
[2008/12/11 12:29] Torley Linden: hahahaha cool Ole!
[2008/12/11 12:29] Torley Linden: :D
[2008/12/11 12:29] Ole Etzel: truely very inspirational phil
[2008/12/11 12:29] Jaymes Kjeller: So something like a one-prim vendor is closer to reality, if I'm guessing right.
[2008/12/11 12:29] Marianne McCann: Ewan - have you seen Jopsy's Porgan? Amazing work
[2008/12/11 12:29] Torley Linden: yes indeed, Jaymes... it opens up a lot of possibilities
[2008/12/11 12:29] Patchouli Woollahra: Man vs. Second Life! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pFS4l5B547s
[2008/12/11 12:30] Marianne McCann: Uses the detected touch a bit in it, too
[2008/12/11 12:30] Torley Linden: DetectedTouch is the kind of thing that at first, a non-tech person wonders "why is this any good?" but use it, and ye shall see
[2008/12/11 12:30] Squirrel Wood: Patchouli, you can get the texture coordinates no matter whether the texture repeats or not or it is rotated.
[2008/12/11 12:30] Patchouli Woollahra: yeah, but it gets a bit more confusing defining the polygons :(
[2008/12/11 12:30] Ewan Mureaux: theres an example behind me if you are using the mono viewer and wanna try
[2008/12/11 12:30] Marianne McCann: Akin to the old texture maps of early HTML
[2008/12/11 12:30] Siobhan McCallen: my partner has actually got a 1-prim alpha keyboard pretty much working
[2008/12/11 12:30] Crap Mariner: i had forgotten about that feature. hrm.... gives me some ideas.
[2008/12/11 12:30] Patchouli Woollahra: The first minute of that video has a Marine falling to his death out of a chopper in SL.
[2008/12/11 12:30] Torley Linden: oh dear.
[2008/12/11 12:31] Patchouli Woollahra: Then it gets decidedly even more funny.
[2008/12/11 12:31] Torley Linden: very neat, Siobhan.
[2008/12/11 12:31] JoannaTrail Blazer revels in all the watermelony goodness of this build
[2008/12/11 12:31] Torley Linden: oh thank you kindly JoannaTrail!
[2008/12/11 12:32] JoannaTrail Blazer: no thank you :)
[2008/12/11 12:32] JoannaTrail Blazer: for all your amazing tutorials
[2008/12/11 12:32] Squirrel Wood: If you do it right you can "paint" on a sculpty
[2008/12/11 12:32] JoannaTrail Blazer: my students love them
[2008/12/11 12:32] JoannaTrail Blazer: :D
[2008/12/11 12:32] Torley Linden: awwww SO happy to hear this!
[2008/12/11 12:32] Patchouli Woollahra: Squirrel, that's why I upgraded to modo 302.
[2008/12/11 12:32] Miralin Dunheved: I've been here two years and you still find stuff I didn't know, Torley.
[2008/12/11 12:32] Patchouli Woollahra: Also: the texture bake does some pretty impressive things if you know how to wrangle it.
[2008/12/11 12:32] JoannaTrail Blazer: so very useful and helpful, you hit good topics that folks struggle with :)
[2008/12/11 12:32] Patchouli Woollahra: like reflections.
[2008/12/11 12:32] JoannaTrail Blazer: exactly, what Miralin sad
[2008/12/11 12:32] JoannaTrail Blazer: said*
[2008/12/11 12:32] JoannaTrail Blazer smiles
[2008/12/11 12:33] Torley Linden: hehe Miralin, that's my passion. i remember the first few times where i was like, "i wish i knew about this earlier! oh, i know... i'll make a video and share the joy!"
[2008/12/11 12:33] Torley Linden: =^_^=
[2008/12/11 12:33] Miralin Dunheved: \o/
[2008/12/11 12:33] Miralin Dunheved: or maybe I should say yayzerama!
[2008/12/11 12:33] JoannaTrail Blazer: right some of the things you teach save time wasting
[2008/12/11 12:33] JoannaTrail Blazer: Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! :D :p :D :p :D
[2008/12/11 12:33] Torley Linden: so yeah, a large part of my inspiration comes from tips i've learned from others... and want to share it forward... YAYZERAMA indeed
[2008/12/11 12:33] Marianne McCann: That reminds me... is there still any debug-a-riffic way to get dynamic reflections like what was experimenented with a year or so back?
[2008/12/11 12:33] Torley Linden: and not just "the features", but really showing why THIS is useful, or why THAT matters
[2008/12/11 12:33] Miralin Dunheved: I like the why
[2008/12/11 12:33] Squirrel Wood gave you Touch_Test.
[2008/12/11 12:34] Miralin Dunheved: I usually know WHAT - like how to get around stuff - but the why makes it a lot more meaningful
[2008/12/11 12:34] Torley Linden: Mari, i don't think so... it's kind of gone underground until we have a fuller materials system
[2008/12/11 12:34] Torley Linden: yes, Miralin!
[2008/12/11 12:34] Torley Linden: context, context...
[2008/12/11 12:34] Torley Linden: the story behind how something came to be
[2008/12/11 12:34] Marianne McCann: Poo. I so want more materials work, and I know it's so far off!
[2008/12/11 12:34] Torley Linden: "and now you know the rest of the story"
[2008/12/11 12:34] Torley Linden: yeah Mari :\ no TBD on that
[2008/12/11 12:34] Miralin Dunheved grins.
[2008/12/11 12:34] Patchouli Woollahra: ah yes, the old question: can SL's grid cope with the load of extra definitions per prim?
[2008/12/11 12:35] Torley Linden: Runitai would be the one to ask re: that sort of graphical goodness
[2008/12/11 12:35] Marianne McCann nods
[2008/12/11 12:35] Torley Linden: hmm there was a time ago when Phoenix Linden explained how much data is in 1 prim's parameters... (not counting textures or contents)
[2008/12/11 12:36] Torley Linden: i can't quite remember what it was but it was very fascinating
[2008/12/11 12:36] XLR8RRICK Hudson: will Mesh Prims ever come then
[2008/12/11 12:36] Patchouli Woollahra: And any change that increases the size of that packet per prim, causes an exponential increase in SL's bandwidth requirements down the line.
[2008/12/11 12:36] Patchouli Woollahra: XLR: lolwhut iz sculpties?
[2008/12/11 12:36] Gini Rossen: well thank you anyway guys...have a great day :) i enjoy your toturials as well, Torley...tc
[2008/12/11 12:36] Miralin Dunheved: Right, which helps you understand why some stuff you just can't do - or you can't do without a serious performance hit.
[2008/12/11 12:36] Ole Etzel: i always knew i didnt know the facts :)
[2008/12/11 12:36] Torley Linden: XLR8RRICK, i can't give away our secret plans on mesh import, and "ever" is a long time. but... a reasonable observer might think it to be eventual.
[2008/12/11 12:36] Torley Linden: thanx take care Gini!
[2008/12/11 12:37] Patchouli Woollahra: like for instance: it's not a coincidental thing that the sculptmap size in SL is the way it is.
[2008/12/11 12:37] Torley Linden: Miralin, yes! that cause and effect. i know Kate here has a big passion for this too... the whole science behind stuff... feels like a Discovery Channel episode :)
[2008/12/11 12:37] Patchouli Woollahra: it takes up roughly the same amount of space as the default parametrics on a torus.
[2008/12/11 12:37] Miralin Dunheved: I like to know how stuff works
[2008/12/11 12:37] Marianne McCann: Likewise, Miralin
[2008/12/11 12:37] Patchouli Woollahra: Torley: <cue 'Great, Now there'll be Cats everywhere' ad>
[2008/12/11 12:37] Torley Linden: Miralin, definitely. a better understanding helps you feel more confident and able to use something better!
[2008/12/11 12:38] Miralin Dunheved: I figure you have to knwo what the rules are before you try and break them
[2008/12/11 12:38] Miralin Dunheved grins.
[2008/12/11 12:38] Torley Linden: yes, exactly!
[2008/12/11 12:38] Patchouli Woollahra: There's room for a LL ad about LL staffers with the Discovery Channel song.
[2008/12/11 12:38] Squirrel Wood: http://www.realityprime.com/articles/how-sl-primitives-really-work ^^
[2008/12/11 12:38] Torley Linden: "this is a box... this is how we can disassemble the box... and make it anew..."
[2008/12/11 12:38] Patchouli Woollahra: "Boom a yada, boom a yada boom a yada, bomm a yada"
[2008/12/11 12:38] Torley Linden: has anyone ever compiled a page on the greatest SL cultural humor ever?
[2008/12/11 12:38] Torley Linden: i haven't seen it done yet.
[2008/12/11 12:38] Patchouli Woollahra: Nah, I was thinking more of two grid lindens hovering way over a grid megamap.
[2008/12/11 12:38] JoannaTrail Blazer: heheh
[2008/12/11 12:39] Ewan Mureaux: this is your prim, this is your prim on drugs
[2008/12/11 12:39] Patchouli Woollahra: Primitives In The Wild!
[2008/12/11 12:39] Kate Linden: "This is a polygon. These are rendered polygons"
[2008/12/11 12:39] JoannaTrail Blazer: No but the linden prayer ought to be included
[2008/12/11 12:39] Miralin Dunheved: Prims Gone Wild
[2008/12/11 12:39] Crap Mariner: probably not. because nobody's asked permission to use my material ;)
[2008/12/11 12:39] Miralin Dunheved giggles.
[2008/12/11 12:39] Patchouli Woollahra: "Bob The Evil Prim!"
[2008/12/11 12:39] Patchouli Woollahra: "Gom Jabbar!"
[2008/12/11 12:39] Torley Linden: wow, Bar-Zeev! he was one of the first Lindens
[2008/12/11 12:39] Marianne McCann: Off to explore Second Life!
[2008/12/11 12:39] Marianne McCann: Uh oh, sim crossing!
[2008/12/11 12:39] Torley Linden: happy travels, Mari!
[2008/12/11 12:39] Torley Linden: ruhroh
[2008/12/11 12:39] Ewan Mureaux: see ya mari
[2008/12/11 12:39] Patchouli Woollahra: Any comic from the awesome that is "Plywood"
[2008/12/11 12:39] Marianne McCann: Just kidding!
[2008/12/11 12:39] Torley Linden: yes Patch. there is no charge for awesomeness. ;)
[2008/12/11 12:40] Torley Linden: haha JoannaTrail, this is one of my faves.
[2008/12/11 12:40] Crap Mariner: Sean McPherson's warning signs on the floor at SLCC 2008 with SL error messages.
[2008/12/11 12:40] Marianne McCann: Not leavin jes yet. Hadda use the gesture, though
[2008/12/11 12:40] JoannaTrail Blazer: hehe good you have it
[2008/12/11 12:40] Torley Linden: oh hahahaha
[2008/12/11 12:40] Crap Mariner: "Sim Crossing" messages at the door
[2008/12/11 12:40] Torley Linden: oh gosh if i have some time i should put together the stuff i know and invite everyone t o contribute that humor, Sim Crossing is definitely a GREAT example
[2008/12/11 12:40] Patchouli Woollahra: I prefer the "Sam Crossing" messages.
[2008/12/11 12:40] JoannaTrail Blazer gave you Linden Prayer.
[2008/12/11 12:40] Crap Mariner: Siting error messages on the chairs
[2008/12/11 12:40] Kate Linden: I saw the warning signs.
[2008/12/11 12:40] Torley Linden: hahahah
[2008/12/11 12:40] Marianne McCann: I *still* want a RL "Missing Image" shirt, m'self
[2008/12/11 12:41] Miralin Dunheved: LOL Marianne
[2008/12/11 12:41] Torley Linden: there's got to be a word for the embarrassing situation that happens when someone hasn't rezzed and you sit in their lap, or on their face
[2008/12/11 12:41] JoannaTrail Blazer: that would be classic, missing image apparel in first life
[2008/12/11 12:41] Patchouli Woollahra: Schadenfraude covers it.
[2008/12/11 12:41] JoannaTrail Blazer: someone should get on that
[2008/12/11 12:41] Patchouli Woollahra: also "Your ass is in my face"
[2008/12/11 12:41] Crap Mariner: Laglapdance
[2008/12/11 12:41] Miralin Dunheved: Torley that happens at every Mentor Meeting!
[2008/12/11 12:41] Kate Linden: <--has a missing image shirt
[2008/12/11 12:41] Miralin Dunheved laughs.
[2008/12/11 12:41] Torley Linden: hahahaahahah
[2008/12/11 12:41] Patchouli Woollahra: THAT TOO.
[2008/12/11 12:41] Torley Linden: yeah, it's this bizarre, awkward phenomenon
[2008/12/11 12:41] JoannaTrail Blazer: awesome Kate
[2008/12/11 12:41] Torley Linden: "i breathe avatar butt"
[2008/12/11 12:41] Torley Linden: >,>
[2008/12/11 12:41] Ole Etzel: haha
[2008/12/11 12:41] JoannaTrail Blazer: ack
[2008/12/11 12:41] Crap Mariner: Lagsanta?
[2008/12/11 12:41] Ewan Mureaux: llAss2Mouth?
[2008/12/11 12:42] Patchouli Woollahra: Most of my sales of this avatar seem to come from laglapdances.
[2008/12/11 12:42] Kate Linden: haha Crap, good one
[2008/12/11 12:42] JoannaTrail Blazer: There is a flickr group for inappropriate sitting in SL
[2008/12/11 12:42] JoannaTrail Blazer: pretty hilarious

[2008/12/11 12:43] Torley Linden: lol. for the record, the first time i ever SAW someone get kicked off of SL was a dude doing the Willy Weber "accident" in the Ahern Welcome Area back in 2004.
[2008/12/11 12:44] Torley Linden: Nigel Linden at the time came over and asked the dude to stop being rude.
[2008/12/11 12:44] Torley Linden: dude kept being rude and uh, touching inappropriately. so he got the boot.
[2008/12/11 12:44] Squirrel Wood: Mmmm. Boot.

[2008/12/11 12:45] XLR8RRICK Hudson: at least you knew where your hair was
[2008/12/11 12:45] Torley Linden: yes, Squirrel.
[2008/12/11 12:45] Miralin Dunheved: I had one of my stilettos end up in my dance partner's um personal area with that bug. Was a funny picture.
[2008/12/11 12:45] Patchouli Woollahra: This is odd news... for Obama.
[2008/12/11 12:46] Marianne McCann: Naw, Torley. I almost went Larry Craig, though.

[2008/12/11 12:47] Patchouli Woollahra: Torley: let's be honest, the SL Herald is not fit to line the kitty litter in my kittybox.
[2008/12/11 12:47] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Twitter is great lol
[2008/12/11 12:47] Torley Linden: i wonder if that cube Philip left in Boardman is still around
[2008/12/11 12:47] Marianne McCann: Hey Gwyneth!
[2008/12/11 12:47] Gwyneth Llewelyn: hi Marianne :-)
[2008/12/11 12:47] Kate Linden: Hi Gwyneth
[2008/12/11 12:47] Patchouli Woollahra: does it matter?
[2008/12/11 12:47] Torley Linden: A shrine to Philip Linden's green cube: http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/423586844/
[2008/12/11 12:47] Marianne McCann: Tunno, Torley. But his prim is still in the waters of the Rosedale sim
[2008/12/11 12:47] Torley Linden: hahaah i know that one too, Mari
[2008/12/11 12:47] Gwyneth Llewelyn: ohhhh the sim is full with so many people lol — hi *everybody* who is still unrezzed
[2008/12/11 12:48] Patchouli Woollahra: wewt wewt!
[2008/12/11 12:48] Siobhan McCallen: is that Mark Hamill?
[2008/12/11 12:48] Torley Linden: ohh i had an embarrassing time when once, i had a box of balls when i was playing with dynamic reflections...
[2008/12/11 12:48] Torley Linden: yes, they look like brothers, eh, Siobhan?
[2008/12/11 12:48] Marianne McCann: Torley - you know about all your colorful spheres in the water below Zermtt and other nearby sims?
[2008/12/11 12:48] Torley Linden: *thunks head*
[2008/12/11 12:48] Siobhan McCallen: ooh
[2008/12/11 12:48] Torley Linden: THOSE ARE THE ONES, MARI XD

[2008/12/11 12:48] Marianne McCann snickers
[2008/12/11 12:48] Marianne McCann: They're still there. Even one in front of Chalet Linden nowadays
[2008/12/11 12:48] Torley Linden: *makes note to self*
[2008/12/11 12:48] Torley Linden: oh geez
[2008/12/11 12:48] Miralin Dunheved laughs.

[2008/12/11 12:49] Patchouli Woollahra wonders if the LL Korea office in SL will be decorating for Christmas.
[2008/12/11 12:49] Patchouli Woollahra: Two years.
[2008/12/11 12:49] Ewan Mureaux: hhaha yeah i played with torleys balls under the ice one night too

[2008/12/11 12:49] Torley Linden: hahaha
[2008/12/11 12:49] Patchouli Woollahra: For two years, I've been harboring an itch to do a lightshow to Wizards In Winter at LL Korea.
[2008/12/11 12:49] JoannaTrail Blazer giggles
[2008/12/11 12:49] Gwyneth Llewelyn just remembers the watermelon gun
[2008/12/11 12:49] Miralin Dunheved: Not touching that.
[2008/12/11 12:49] Patchouli Woollahra: Sejong probably wouldn't appreciate the joke.
[2008/12/11 12:49] Marianne McCann: I have a bad habit of wandering the grid looking for odd stuffs. Found those spheres while looking for the 2003-era hint balls
[2008/12/11 12:49] Torley Linden: haha Gwyn that was given to me when i was new... well, like MANY of them were given... haha
[2008/12/11 12:50] Gwyneth Llewelyn: :)))
[2008/12/11 12:50] Torley Linden: Mari, you uberexplorer you!
[2008/12/11 12:50] Gwyneth Llewelyn: A pre-Torley watermeloney thing!
[2008/12/11 12:50] Torley Linden: yes, and then i was told the story of Snoopy Pico
[2008/12/11 12:50] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Oh?
[2008/12/11 12:50] Torley Linden: and how he used to hide behind trees... or something
[2008/12/11 12:50] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Do tell!
[2008/12/11 12:50] Miralin Dunheved: Snoopy Pico?
[2008/12/11 12:50] Torley Linden: i'm sure i'm messing it up
[2008/12/11 12:50] Torley Linden: lol
[2008/12/11 12:50] Torley Linden: the guy who made the watermelon launcher ;D
[2008/12/11 12:50] Torley Linden: well, first watermelon launcher, anyway
[2008/12/11 12:50] Squirrel Wood: must. make. your. ears. bleed. :p
[2008/12/11 12:50] Gwyneth Llewelyn: is he still around?!
[2008/12/11 12:50] Marianne McCann: Pico... there's an old name
[2008/12/11 12:50] Gwyneth Llewelyn: oooooh
[2008/12/11 12:50] Gwyneth Llewelyn: or se... or it...
[2008/12/11 12:50] Torley Linden: i've never actually seen him in-avatar, Gwyn
[2008/12/11 12:50] JoannaTrail Blazer: I gtg, thanks for tweeting about this Torley, see u another time :)
[2008/12/11 12:50] JoannaTrail Blazer: ***Wewtwewt ***
[2008/12/11 12:50] Gwyneth Llewelyn: mmmh :)
[2008/12/11 12:50] Torley Linden: take care JoannaTrail!
[2008/12/11 12:50] Ash Meersand: Hey, Torley!
[2008/12/11 12:50] Gwyneth Llewelyn: One wonders...
[2008/12/11 12:51] JoannaTrail Blazer: :D
[2008/12/11 12:51] Torley Linden: Gwyn, i do remember Uli!
[2008/12/11 12:51] Gwyneth Llewelyn: ooooh
[2008/12/11 12:51] Gwyneth Llewelyn: those were the days :)
[2008/12/11 12:51] Torley Linden: so yeah lately i've been on a nostalgia binge... and getting back to my roots no matter how big the world gets
[2008/12/11 12:51] Ash Meersand: In Windlight, will we eventually be able to replace images of the Moon with images of other objects?
[2008/12/11 12:51] Patchouli Woollahra goes back to posing a render of the SL grid as viewed from the metaverse of metaverses.
[2008/12/11 12:51] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I still get that weird feeling when going to Uli...
[2008/12/11 12:51] Ash Meersand: So if we're making a lunar landscape we could put Earth up there?
[2008/12/11 12:51] Marianne McCann: Hah! Looking at that sphere picture, Torley, now I know why there are so many scattered about there!
[2008/12/11 12:51] Ewan Mureaux: i don't get twitter, a micro post to annouce a post, its like snacking between breakfast and brunch
[2008/12/11 12:51] Patchouli Woollahra: it involves a ghostly cyan Terahippo with a worldplate on its back.
[2008/12/11 12:51] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Ewan: :-)
[2008/12/11 12:51] Torley Linden: it's kinda funny because Gwyn, Keith Extraordinaire later moved his house and Escher build... and then... on the other corner of Here, we have one of his house's...
[2008/12/11 12:52] Torley Linden: Mari, yes, it was... quite multiplicious
[2008/12/11 12:52] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Small world :)
[2008/12/11 12:52] Torley Linden: i visit the colored sims sometimes, but it's so different there now
[2008/12/11 12:52] Torley Linden: still, i have memories
[2008/12/11 12:52] Gwyneth Llewelyn: I understand that Keith is now a mega-designer with his own company... saw him again a few months ago, he seemed to be doing well :)
[2008/12/11 12:52] Patchouli Woollahra: I was going to put elephants in, then people asked me why I was copying DiscWorld.
[2008/12/11 12:52] Torley Linden: yeah Gwyn i saw him a few weeks back, it's nice when oldbies are still active. you of course.
[2008/12/11 12:52] Torley Linden: i remember when Eggy Lippmann was the ancient oldbie!
[2008/12/11 12:52] Torley Linden: :D
[2008/12/11 12:52] Patchouli Woollahra: so I'm looking for a nice herbivorous dinosaur.
[2008/12/11 12:52] Marianne McCann: Oh ya, Torley. But you can still find some places that are all-but-unchanged
[2008/12/11 12:52] Gwyneth Llewelyn: hehe Patch :) And what's the problem in copying Discworld? ;)
[2008/12/11 12:53] Torley Linden: Mari, yeah, like Lifetime land holders i think...
[2008/12/11 12:53] Patchouli Woollahra: SL isn't discworld.
[2008/12/11 12:53] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Torley, Eggy still works with me ;)
[2008/12/11 12:53] Angus Mesmer: Imagination and a thousand sims
[2008/12/11 12:53] Patchouli Woollahra has talked to Eggy at times.
[2008/12/11 12:53] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Torley, Eggy still works with me ;)
[2008/12/11 12:53] Torley Linden: Ash, eventually i hope we'll be able to.
[2008/12/11 12:53] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Torley, Eggy still works with me ;)
[2008/12/11 12:53] Patchouli Woollahra: he's awesome.
[2008/12/11 12:53] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Torley, Eggy still works with me ;)
[2008/12/11 12:53] Torley Linden: wow Gwyn
[2008/12/11 12:53] Torley Linden: 4x!
[2008/12/11 12:53] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Patch: it's flat, round, and the middle of the mainland are high snowy mountains ;)
[2008/12/11 12:53] Gwyneth Llewelyn: Patch: it's flat, round, and the middle of the mainland are high snowy mountains ;)
[2008/12/11 12:53] Patchouli Woollahra: he has every right to be proud of what he is here and now, but he isn't.
[2008/12/11 12:53] Ash Meersand: Thanks
[2008/12/11 12:53] Gwyneth Llewelyn: ack
[2008/12/11 12:53] Torley Linden: i haven't seen Eggy in ages but JUST yesterday i got his LinkedIn request
[2008/12/11 12:53] Gwyneth Llewelyn: ack
[2008/12/11 12:53] Marianne McCann: My brother Pygar scored some land in Varney the other day. A lot of the area around him is ancient, in SL terms
[2008/12/11 12:53] Torley Linden: wireless repeater, Gwyn? =)
[2008/12/11 12:53] Torley Linden: YES! i had land in Varney...
[2008/12/11 12:53] Torley Linden: a 16m2
[2008/12/11 12:53] Torley Linden: but then i sold it :)
[2008/12/11 12:53] Gwyneth Llewelyn has to log off, the wireless connection plays havok
[2008/12/11 12:53] Gwyneth Llewelyn has to log off, the wireless connection plays havok
[2008/12/11 12:53] Patchouli Woollahra: Varney was a dinosaur... not.
[2008/12/11 12:53] Gwyneth Llewelyn has to log off, the wireless connection plays havok
[2008/12/11 12:53] Gwyneth Llewelyn has to log off, the wireless connection plays havok
[2008/12/11 12:53] Ewan Mureaux: torley the cutter shocking
[2008/12/11 12:53] Patchouli Woollahra: Stop blaming Sidewinder Linden for it!
[2008/12/11 12:53] Torley Linden: not the kind of Havok that's physicals!
[2008/12/11 12:54] Marianne McCann: Have fun, Gwyn!
[2008/12/11 12:54] Ash Meersand: Sometimes when I click the "play" button on a video, I just stand there not knowing if it's loading. Could Second Life include progress bars for loading movies?
[2008/12/11 12:54] Torley Linden: Ewan, lol, i was reasonable about selling it... i didn't extort...
[2008/12/11 12:54] Squirrel Wood: wirelost :p
[2008/12/11 12:54] Siobhan McCallen: oooh, we could play progressquest!
[2008/12/11 12:54] Marianne McCann: Ya, he got a little waterfront facing Clara. Next to someones 16m2. Hmn
[2008/12/11 12:54] Torley Linden: Ash, i feel exactly the same way. possibly, i don't know for sure. it'd be SO helpful.
[2008/12/11 12:54] Torley Linden: i don't like having the "freeze".
[2008/12/11 12:54] XLR8RRICK Hudson: good Idea ASH
[2008/12/11 12:54] Patchouli Woollahra: other things SL client could include: free back massages, giant hippo rezzer.
[2008/12/11 12:54] Ewan Mureaux: soon that will be a "remember when people used to......" thing as well
[2008/12/11 12:54] Angus Mesmer is glad to see that the Man in the Hat has contaminated quite a few people around...
[2008/12/11 12:54] Torley Linden: Callum Linden is a QuickTime mastermind...
[2008/12/11 12:54] Torley Linden: he'd be good to ask about that
[2008/12/11 12:54] Patchouli Woollahra: There's a reason why some proposed features never materialise.
[2008/12/11 12:55] Kate Linden: If you want any of these items added to the museum in IWI, just send them over :)
[2008/12/11 12:55] Ewan Mureaux: did anyone ever replace the duck walk?
[2008/12/11 12:55] Patchouli Woollahra: Millions of people have, Ewawn.
[2008/12/11 12:55] Patchouli Woollahra: it's called ZHAO.
[2008/12/11 12:55] Crap Mariner: museum?
[2008/12/11 12:55] XLR8RRICK Hudson: streams start to play after a few seconds
[2008/12/11 12:55] Torley Linden: Ewan, not within the system... but yeah i do remember the blog announcement XD
[2008/12/11 12:55] Miralin Dunheved chuckles.
[2008/12/11 12:55] Ewan Mureaux: remember there was a post yeah
[2008/12/11 12:55] Torley Linden: AOs are still all the rage!
[2008/12/11 12:55] Patchouli Woollahra: and ZHAO II: Son of ZHAO.
[2008/12/11 12:55] Miralin Dunheved: I think he meant - yeah, the default thing.
[2008/12/11 12:55] Torley Linden: yeah by Jesse, who's no longer @ LL
[2008/12/11 12:55] Marianne McCann: There's a couple of your remnants, Torley - http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=326684
[2008/12/11 12:56] Patchouli Woollahra: this avatar I'm wearing/selling, it has a Animation/Sound Overrider attachment.
[2008/12/11 12:56] Torley Linden: wow thanks Mari...
[2008/12/11 12:56] Miralin Dunheved: Oh! Well then ... thank heavens ZHAO is free
[2008/12/11 12:56] Marianne McCann: Aw, Jesse is gone too? Was sad abotu Sidewinder/
[2008/12/11 12:56] Torley Linden: i love quality freebies
[2008/12/11 12:56] Kate Linden: There is an SL museum at I-World Island. It's educational but has some fun artifacts. Photos from the very early days, the first prim rezzed inworld etc.
[2008/12/11 12:56] Ewan Mureaux gave you Merry Christmas from Ewan.
[2008/12/11 12:56] XLR8RRICK Hudson: was sad about Cory
[2008/12/11 12:56] Miralin Dunheved: me too on the quality freebies
[2008/12/11 12:56] Ash Meersand: I notice that when I try to fly and go straight forward, my height on the z axis fluctuates with changes in terrain. This thwarts an AO I have for swimming in Linden water. Could there be an option to "Swim" straight forward instead of "Fly" in the viewer?
[2008/12/11 12:56] Crap Mariner: ah ok. making a note. got to film us holocaust museum tonight, will check it out
[2008/12/11 12:56] Marianne McCann: Kate - yes, I've been there! Hope it'll eventually have moar!
[2008/12/11 12:57] Patchouli Woollahra: What, no pictures of the infamous Cubic Prim keychain?
[2008/12/11 12:57] Kate Linden: I've been adding whatever I can find. This week I replaced the Falling Ball Timer to measure SL gravity.
[2008/12/11 12:57] Patchouli Woollahra: http://www.koinup.com/PatchouliWoollahra/work/59836/ <-- one of the avatars I'm thinking of comping around with my "SL as a Hippoworld" picture.
[2008/12/11 12:57] Marianne McCann: cool, Kate!
[2008/12/11 12:57] Patchouli Woollahra: We have physcists in SL!?
[2008/12/11 12:57] Torley Linden: hmmm Ash i've seen some hacks for swimming in water, but not sure offhand what they were.
[2008/12/11 12:58] Torley Linden: BLINDED ME... with... SCIENCE!
[2008/12/11 12:58] Ole Etzel: i had a problem while recordin machinima if usin ctrl-altf1 and recording water i had a little shadow on top of screen. like a shadow from invisible menu on water. anyone had same evah?
[2008/12/11 12:58] Patchouli Woollahra: I have a copy of The Swimmer.
[2008/12/11 12:58] Marianne McCann: I wish when I was a noob, I'd taken more piccies. I can only barely remember the Sami infohub, which was home back then
[2008/12/11 12:58] Torley Linden: omg! yes, i remember Sami
[2008/12/11 12:58] Patchouli Woollahra: it works primarily with LindenWater, but specific prim water will also trigger it.
[2008/12/11 12:58] Torley Linden: i've never, ever regretted taking so many pictures
[2008/12/11 12:58] Torley Linden: and how Sami Tabla was there, suitably enough :)
[2008/12/11 12:58] Torley Linden: haha
[2008/12/11 12:58] Siobhan McCallen: patchouli..there's a hippo amusement park in Camazotz
[2008/12/11 12:58] Marianne McCann: I recently worked on a Magicians project for Wiley Publishing in Furu, and saw that the infohub land is still there, but the hub s but a memory
[2008/12/11 12:58] Kate Linden: Mari that is great advice for new Residents. Take photo's :)
[2008/12/11 12:58] Miralin Dunheved: I started learning (erm, trying to) how to use GIMP and I'm using all my SL Screenies as starter pictures to play with
[2008/12/11 12:58] Ash Meersand: I made a perfect hexagonal and a perfect octogonal prism using just two and three cubes instead of a sculpty. It involved lots of using Second Life to practice geometry
[2008/12/11 12:59] Torley Linden: yes... some hubs were left as Protected Land, last i checked
[2008/12/11 12:59] Jaymes Kjeller: I wish I've embraced the art of inworld photos earlier. I would have had more now, and a better history of what I did. :)
[2008/12/11 12:59] Torley Linden: cool, Miralin.
[2008/12/11 12:59] Patchouli Woollahra: ditto.
[2008/12/11 12:59] Marianne McCann: Kate - my photos on snaps are sort of a "dary" of my SL time. Still, I should have taken a lto more. I've learned
[2008/12/11 12:59] Miralin Dunheved: I have tons of them, so why not? :D
[2008/12/11 12:59] Marianne McCann: dairy*
[2008/12/11 12:59] Marianne McCann: That other word
[2008/12/11 12:59] Ewan Mureaux: milks and cheeses of sl!
[2008/12/11 12:59] Miralin Dunheved: Diary, even
[2008/12/11 12:59] Ash Meersand: I call them semi-prims, and I'll rez them and let anyone take a copy
[2008/12/11 13:00] Asher Dufaux: before we go I have something to ask.
[2008/12/11 13:00] Patchouli Woollahra: I have a ton of snaps on Koinup. check http://www.koinup.com/PatchouliWoollahra/
[2008/12/11 13:00] Asher Dufaux: Do you know what an agnostic, dyslexic, existential insommniac does?
[2008/12/11 13:00] Ash Meersand: Now anyone can copy it
[2008/12/11 13:00] Kate Linden: Thanks Patch
[2008/12/11 13:00] Miralin Dunheved: stays up nights wondering about the existence of dogs?
[2008/12/11 13:00] Torley Linden: and in case any of you missed it earlier, this is my last office hour here at this time. i'll *keep* having Office Hours but (1) time and location will change and (2) i plan to attend Doc Team's office hours too. i'll announce my presence @ http://twitter.com/torley if you use that. =)
[2008/12/11 13:00] Asher Dufaux: --------- He lies awake at night wondering if there really is a dog.
[2008/12/11 13:01] Siobhan McCallen: thank you ash
[2008/12/11 13:01] Marianne McCann: Patch - I only have about 3000 or so on Snapzilla
[2008/12/11 13:01] Patchouli Woollahra: Most of them are hilarious... in particular, the 'omg i'm scared' pictures.
[2008/12/11 13:01] Asher Dufaux: --------- He lies awake at night wondering if there really is a dog.
[2008/12/11 13:01] Torley Linden: haha that joke cracks me up.
[2008/12/11 13:01] Miralin Dunheved: Awww I like it Here.
[2008/12/11 13:01] Patchouli Woollahra: I tend to avoid Flickr because Yahoo's stability is questionable.
[2008/12/11 13:01] Torley Linden: you're prolific Mari! do you use any special tools to type in the email address to postcard, or any shortcuts?
[2008/12/11 13:01] Ewan Mureaux thinks the lindens have bought shares in twitter
[2008/12/11 13:01] Ash Meersand: It's 1m across the vertical and horizontal diameters, and 0.5m along the z axis
[2008/12/11 13:01] Torley Linden: Miralin, there'll still be future ones on Here. but at different times. and maybe different places around the island too. ;D
[2008/12/11 13:02] Jaymes Kjeller: I use Twitter, Torley, so I'll know, but it's more of a case of remembering to run TweetDeck, which is what I use. :)
[2008/12/11 13:02] Miralin Dunheved: Well I can come Here anytime
[2008/12/11 13:02] Marianne McCann: I don;t, but should. Now that I have some spare time, I'm liable to macro a lot of that
[2008/12/11 13:02] Miralin Dunheved chuckles.
[2008/12/11 13:02] Ole Etzel: i had a problem while recordin machinima if usin ctrl-altf1 and recording water i had a little shadow on top of screen. like a shadow from invisible menu on water. anyone had same evah?
[2008/12/11 13:02] Miralin Dunheved: But this is a fun place for office hours.
[2008/12/11 13:02] Torley Linden: haha Jaymes, i just started using TweetDeck!
[2008/12/11 13:02] Ash Meersand: Now anyone can take a copy
[2008/12/11 13:02] Miralin Dunheved: Torley I like TweetDeck
[2008/12/11 13:02] Kate Linden: Ewan Doc team are all on twitter now too.
[2008/12/11 13:02] Patchouli Woollahra: ah yeah... I still prefer vanilla direct Twitter.
[2008/12/11 13:02] Torley Linden: hmmm Ole, haven't run into that yet, what are you using to record?
[2008/12/11 13:02] Marianne McCann: My snapzilla: http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/ProfilePage.aspx?Name=Marianne%20McCann

[2008/12/11 13:03] Miralin Dunheved: That's what reminded me to get here, Torley, was your twitter
[2008/12/11 13:03] Torley Linden: Ole, okay! what resolution are you recording at? did you try diff. window sizes?
[2008/12/11 13:03] Torley Linden: oh good to know Miralin! i like Twitter simply because it's lightweight and quick.
[2008/12/11 13:03] Ewan Mureaux: Theres only so many sites I can join up with to be ignored on
[2008/12/11 13:03] Marianne McCann: I follow both you and Kate from my RL selves Twitter acct.

[2008/12/11 13:03] Ole Etzel: what was that... 960...
[2008/12/11 13:03] Torley Linden: Crap, not publicly yet...i think you've got most of them
[2008/12/11 13:03] Jaymes Kjeller: My Twitter account is a weird algamation of my RL and SL identities. :)
[2008/12/11 13:04] Patchouli Woollahra: ergo, it follows taht if you can have more ignorance, you're more blissful.
[2008/12/11 13:04] Patchouli Woollahra: Jaymes: ditto.
[2008/12/11 13:04] Torley Linden: aalgamation is one of my fave words
[2008/12/11 13:04] Kate Linden: Also, Torley will be joining our Doc Team meetings soon. I'll tweet them.
[2008/12/11 13:04] Patchouli Woollahra: I mention my SL lunches as much as I mention my RL joys and woes.

[2008/12/11 13:05] Miralin Dunheved waves
[2008/12/11 13:05] Ash Meersand: Let's say I have a bug that might be really hard to recreate. For example, looking at the top floor of a giant staircase, you get to by cam scanning from one stair to the next, and the top stair has to be at 170m in the sim's cloud area
[2008/12/11 13:05] Tyler Messenger: btw u can buy my outfit at Tyloos lol
[2008/12/11 13:05] Crap Mariner: it's an unofficial list

[2008/12/11 13:05] Ewan Mureaux: I might have a day *on* sometime
[2008/12/11 13:05] Patchouli Woollahra: One of my favorite Pandora Wrigglesworth toys is the Inflatable Woman
[2008/12/11 13:06] Ash Meersand: and you have to be hit by a physical object while cam scanned so far away
[2008/12/11 13:06] Crap Mariner <3 Pandora Wrigglesworth
[2008/12/11 13:06] Ash Meersand: It also happens consistently
[2008/12/11 13:06] Marianne McCann: Pandora rocks
[2008/12/11 13:06] Ash Meersand: Is this really obscure crash worth reporting?
[2008/12/11 13:06] Torley Linden: it's that kind of wacky stuff that should make http://sldiscoveries.blogspot.com more :)
[2008/12/11 13:06] Kate Linden: I need to head out also. Thanks for letting me join your OH Torley. Great seeing everyone! Lots of faces I haven't seen in a while. :)

[2008/12/11 13:08] Torley Linden: Mari, i'd get Mia's ear on that, she's very enthused...
[2008/12/11 13:09] Crap Mariner: heh
[2008/12/11 13:09] Patchouli Woollahra: Has anyone tried the EatPES Christmas Fireplace screensaver or DVD yet?
[2008/12/11 13:09] Torley Linden: Mia has helped organize the previous holiday Lindens
[2008/12/11 13:09] Crap Mariner: Marianne - I could ask my pal John to sit in for one.
