If your avatar is suddenly and unexpectedly turned all black, here are some steps you can attempt in order to try to restore your normal color:

* Go to '''Preferences > Graphics > Custom''' and make sure the '''Hardware Skinning''' box is unchecked.
* If you are using Second Life on a secondary monitor, move it to your primary monitor, log out, and log back in. You may need to "rebake" your avatar's textures:
* ** Go to '''Advanced > Character > Rebake Textures'''
** If you do not have an '''Advanced''' menu, you can activate it by pressing '''Ctrl+Alt+D'''. See [[How do I open the Advanced menu (Formerly known as the Client menu.)|this article]] for more details on opening the '''Advanced''' menu.
**
* If you are using an ATI video card, you may need to reset your Catalyst drivers. For information on how to use your Catalyst software, please visit ATI's website.
