I'm the Director of Open Development at Linden Lab, and a member of the Snowstorm Team. My mission is to invigorate and expand the open source program both inside and outside Linden Lab, and to make both more responsive to the needs of our residents and customers.

Contact

I can be reached by email at oz@lindenlab.com (I strongly prefer this to direct IMs or notecards in world; I run my life by my email inbox).

I run the Open Development User Group meeting for any issues related to open source development and process issues, and participate in a number of the other Snowstorm Team meetings. See those pages for schedules.

Approximately every other week, I also hold meetings for the developers of viewers listed in the Third Party Viewer Directory. If you are a contributor to one or more of those viewers and would like to get notices of those meetings, send me email. I am the administrator of that directory, so questions about it should be directed to me.

If you are looking for a way to contribute to Viewer development, see the "Open Source Development Ideas" Jira filter for some ideas, but feel free to bring your own.

If you would like to set up an individual meeting with me, see my calendar and send me an email (preferably with a calendar update I can just accept or not).

In The Real World

I'm based in the Boston office (which is really across the river in Cambridge, next to the MIT campus).

I'm a long time open source user and developer - before coming to Linden Lab I spent ~7 years leading the sipXecs SIP PBX project

My career has been a steady climb up the OSI protocol stack... I started out doing link layer drivers at NCR and other places, built a few different network and transport layer protocols, then spent several years on HTTP (if you have a device that has a web interface, there's a decent chance it has my server in it), then several more on SIP (the core protocol for most voice on the net), and now I've worked my way up to virtual worlds. I've done a lot of standards development, mostly at the IETF, but also at other industry consortia.

Outside work, I play billiards in the APA, and ride my electric skateboard (often to work).

Tools

I am compulsive about automating routine tasks, and have a small collection of handy tools that I make available for sharing...
