Transcript of Benjamin Linden's office hours:

[10:01] Angela Ge: hi Benjamin, just the person we wanted to see :P
[10:01] Angela Ge: good morning :)
[10:01] Squirrel Wood: Goooooood Morning ^^
[10:01] Benjamin Linden: hey everyone!
[10:01] Tao Takashi: good evening :)
[10:01] Angela Ge: ah yes asia :)
[10:01] Very Susanti: Hi Benjamin :)
[10:01] Angela Ge: and europe :)
[10:01] Benjamin Linden: hi Very :-)
[10:01] Benjamin Linden: hey Squirrel
[10:01] Benjamin Linden: nice suit Tao
[10:02] Tao Takashi: thanks :)
[10:02] Tao Takashi: I bought it myself :)
[10:02] Benjamin Linden: lol
[10:02] Benjamin Linden: wow that's a big sign Angela
[10:02] Angela Ge: thank you Benjamin :)
[10:02] Angela Ge: would you like one ? :)
[10:02] Benjamin Linden: what are you advocating?
[10:03] Benjamin Linden: keeping free accounts?
[10:03] Tao Takashi: free beer
[10:03] Benjamin Linden: lol
[10:03] Angela Ge: it will be one of my questions ;) but i think there were others before me.. so maybe ;)
[10:03] Benjamin Linden: I'd wear that!
[10:03] Angela Ge: i will wait till my turn comes to ask ;)
[10:03] Very Susanti: free love?
[10:03] Tao Takashi: that's so 70s ;-)
[10:03] Benjamin Linden: well we all know SL is all about free love :-)
[10:03] Angela Ge: A free second life from Linden Lab censorship *winks and smiles*
[10:03] Benjamin Linden: ah ha
[10:03] Very Susanti: lmao don't bring that up
[10:04] Floriano Flossberg: hi everybody
[10:04] Benjamin Linden: so it's about abuse policy
[10:04] Angela Ge: hello Floriano
[10:04] Squirrel Wood: Humm. One question I got: How are we supposed to abuse report someone when that person cannot be found in search from the abuse form ingame?
[10:05] Floriano Flossberg: thats my first "linden-meeting" are there any rules or things i should know?
[10:05] Benjamin Linden: I'm not sure, Squirrel, do you mean someone that's no longer an SL member?
[10:05] Squirrel Wood: http://www.dream.at/temp/usernotfound_cannotabusereportingame.jpg
[10:05] Very Susanti: don't orbit the Linden, that is always a good rule
[10:05] Benjamin Linden: lol
[10:05] Tao Takashi: equal rights for all though ;-)
[10:05] Benjamin Linden: the only rule is to respect each other (and me) :-)
[10:06] Benjamin Linden: generally I try to keep on topic of UI design and usability
[10:06] Benjamin Linden: new features, etc.
[10:06] Floriano Flossberg: ok, i think i can do that ;)
[10:06] Benjamin Linden: but I also like to hear about things in the UI that bug you
[10:06] Summer Seale: hi =)
[10:06] Benjamin Linden: that we can improve
[10:06] Angela Ge: well Benjamin, could you please define the term 'broadly offends'? And could you please clarify what is meant by anything that broadly offends please, thank you. since this is releated to anything regarding SL as seen in your profile :)
[10:06] Tao Takashi: ok, whcih new features will we get soon? :)
[10:06] Very Susanti: what is the timeline for the new search functionality, when are you planning to finish design and begin implementation?
[10:06] Tao Takashi: can we see the design before implementation? :)
[10:06] Very Susanti: just curious
[10:07] Squirrel Wood: what you can improve: user programmable pie menu (other than renaming two of the options) ^^
[10:07] Benjamin Linden: search seemst o be a popular item to discuss!
[10:07] Tao Takashi: when can i use umlauts in object names, Unicode FTW :)
[10:07] Summer Seale: i have a quick UI suggestion - a minimize window icon for the 'snapshot' window which has none. as a photographer, that would help me a lot. thanks. =)
[10:07] Lightsaber: releasing controls
[10:07] Very Susanti: well it is just that we have been talking about it so I was wondering how far along it was
[10:08] Benjamin Linden: ok I'm just reading through the long list of questions :-)
[10:08] Angela Ge smiles
[10:08] Very Susanti: squirrel I would like the pie menu be able to have different sit text on different prims in the same object
[10:08] Tao Takashi: Angela, you should ask Robin these questions I suppose, her office hour is right after this one
[10:08] Benjamin Linden: we are still in the early design stages with some prototype work being done on search
[10:08] Benjamin Linden: this new design is more web-like than the current UI
[10:09] Theodore Folsom: oha, Goodday all =)
[10:09] Very Susanti: K I was just thiking of taking some notes from my project and forming them into a white paper
[10:09] Benjamin Linden: one goal is to provide single search box functionality like google does
[10:09] Benjamin Linden: hi Theodore
[10:09] Benjamin Linden: notes on our project or on your project, Very?
[10:09] Very Susanti: mine
[10:09] Very Susanti: maybe taylor them to our discussions
[10:10] Benjamin Linden: Angela, to answer your question, unfortunately I'm not up to speed on the latest changes to the abuse policy. we're actually having a company-wide meeting today to discuss it.
[10:10] Benjamin Linden: Needless to say there's been a lot of internal dialog.
[10:10] Angela Ge: tank you Benjamin, appreciate your insight, however, is there some light you can shed on what broadly offends would mean to you, how would you define it Benjamin?
[10:10] Benjamin Linden: Robin Linden, the VP for community development, has regular office hours and she would be a great person to discuss this with
[10:11] Benjamin Linden: I'd prefer not to comment until I better understand the policy, Angela. Thanks for your patience.
[10:11] Angela Ge: appreciate your honesty Benjamin
[10:11] Floriano Flossberg: sorry for disturbing your discussion, but does anyone know how to contact pathfinder linden? i've some questions to him concerning my master-thesis about public space in second-life. i didn't get an answer to my ast two emails...
[10:11] Benjamin Linden: So Very, you were thinking that your search project might have some useful relevance to SL search?
[10:12] Benjamin Linden: email is the best way Floriano (unless you run across him in-world)
[10:12] Very Susanti: who knows, may be an asset may notbe
[10:12] Benjamin Linden: Pathfinder gets a lot of email though, so it might take a while to get a response
[10:13] Floriano Flossberg: ok, so im going to practice myself in patience:)
[10:13] Very Susanti: might be interesting reading, it is a similar problem space
[10:13] Wyn Galbraith misses the Pathfinder office hours.
[10:13] Benjamin Linden: I'd definitely be interested in reading more about your project, Very. you're using Lucene right?
[10:13] Very Susanti: I like to write white papers are gigs, help me to promote myself anyway
[10:13] Very Susanti: Lucene, LAS and SQl Server
[10:14] Very Susanti: Lucene for indexing
[10:14] Benjamin Linden: cool
[10:14] Very Susanti: Las for cultural variations
[10:14] Very Susanti: and SQL Server for the Ontology
[10:15] Very Susanti: and some Apache pakages for double metaphone matching
[10:15] Benjamin Linden: we hope to have something for you to look at with the search project soon
[10:15] Benjamin Linden: it would be great to start getting your feedback
[10:16] Very Susanti: we are gonna talk about groups today alsi rigt?
[10:16] Benjamin Linden: particularly on how ranking, sorting, and relevance works
[10:16] Very Susanti: sure
[10:16] Benjamin Linden: is that what we left off on last time, Very?
[10:16] Benjamin Linden: I was trying to remember
[10:16] Very Susanti: ack my spleller in on vacation
[10:16] Very Susanti: yes
[10:17] Benjamin Linden: ok sure, but remind me again what the question was
[10:17] Benjamin Linden: I know people said they want to be in more groups
[10:17] Theodore Folsom: *nods*
[10:17] Very Susanti: well I said was groups suck ... or at least the way we use them does
[10:17] Benjamin Linden: can you elaborate, Very?
[10:18] Very Susanti: Well most often there are groups i want to join, to get notices, but no chat
[10:18] Very Susanti: like fan groups for a musician
[10:18] Very Susanti: and groups I join for the chat
[10:18] Harriotts Harrop: oh sorrry
[10:18] Very Susanti: like scripting and building groups
[10:18] Tao Takashi: I think we discussed similar things in SF, didn't we, Benjamin? The different uses of groups
[10:19] Very Susanti: I can see a good point in limiting the groups for chat
[10:19] Benjamin Linden: yes, we did
[10:19] Summer Seale: ya you gotta have a 'no chat' option for groups/titles
[10:19] Tao Takashi: some for chat, some for announcements, some for management
[10:19] Benjamin Linden: actually I believe this might be coming as part of Voice Chat
[10:19] Very Susanti: to avoid griefers spamming a whole lot of groups
[10:19] Summer Seale: heh i just dealt with this issue as a group manager about 3 mins ago while you guys were discussing the web thing
[10:19] Benjamin Linden: I need to double check but there are new group roles rolling out with voice chat
[10:19] Tao Takashi: I actually still would like to have a higher group limit
[10:19] Very Susanti: also I would like to see squedules too
[10:19] Benjamin Linden: and limiting chat to certain people I believe is one of them
[10:19] Summer Seale: ya a higher limit would be nice.
[10:20] Squirrel Wood: When you have vendors all over the grid you need to be in I don't know how many different groups...
[10:20] Tao Takashi: esp. when being active at a lot of projects I am usually in many groups just for the building rights
[10:20] Very Susanti: I don't think just increasing the limit is the best
[10:20] Theodore Folsom: *agrees to Tao*
[10:20] Very Susanti: though 25 is too low a limit
[10:20] Tao Takashi: and maybe those announcement groups could be special as they might have very little functionality
[10:20] Summer Seale: well ya i build and i have to be in many groups for many projects.
[10:20] Very Susanti: and for access to closed off estates
[10:20] Tao Takashi: I think we had other great ideas back then which I cannot remember at the moment ;-)
[10:21] Benjamin Linden: it sounds like people use groups for many different purposes and maybe there isn't a single good solution for all of those reasons
[10:21] Tao Takashi: maybe one group concept isn't fitting everything ;-)
[10:21] Benjamin Linden: right
[10:22] Fanturi Erato quietly listens
[10:22] Benjamin Linden: Robin mentioned to me several months ago that she wanted to start a project to re-work groups but I don't think that's gotten off the ground yet
[10:22] Tao Takashi: several months ago we had a new group system ;-)
[10:22] Benjamin Linden: I know that we want to better support the business functions that groups are currently used for
[10:22] Tao Takashi: we got actually
[10:22] Benjamin Linden: right, Robin called this Groups 3.0 :-)
[10:22] Summer Seale: i don't know, i think groups are great the way they're set up with rights and all - very powerful medium to use for rights especially. but the limit...limits those of us who are doing a lot in SL with a lot of people. that's all really.
[10:22] Very Susanti: and tied to groups and group IMs it would be nice to have a paste my current location SLURL in the IM window
[10:22] Tao Takashi: it would also be nice to have more control about stuff on group owned land.. like just make everything set for a group automatically editable for everbody
[10:22] Angela Ge smiles, "thank you for your time and looking forward to speaking with you soon Benjamin, have a great day all. *waves*
[10:23] Tao Takashi: cya Angela
[10:23] Benjamin Linden: thanks for coming Angela!
[10:23] Tao Takashi: right now it's sort of a pain to work together on objects if you are not remembering to set every flag right
[10:23] Very Susanti: I hate the IM me for a teleport, which become a flood of group IMs
[10:23] Tao Takashi: esp. if the owner is not logged in
[10:23] Benjamin Linden: that's a good idea Very
[10:24] Tao Takashi: maybe a TP location for a group might be nice so everybody can click on it
[10:24] Benjamin Linden: and yes, Tao, permissions are a huge problem
[10:24] Tao Takashi: but then again this could be an attachment of a notice
[10:24] Squirrel Wood: Ben, might want to take a look at my group title :p
[10:24] Theodore Folsom: Oha
[10:24] Benjamin Linden: lol :-)
[10:24] Benjamin Linden: nice job, Squirrel
[10:25] Benjamin Linden: you leveled up!
[10:25] Tao Takashi: and I still would like to be able to hide the IM text appearing in the chat overlay ;-)
[10:25] Wyn Galbraith: Another place where a create landmark would be nice is when looking at search or someone's profile and you want to save the location without teleporting at that moment.
[10:25] Tao Takashi: that was a common request I think
[10:25] Tao Takashi: store without teleport
[10:25] Summer Seale: oh ya
[10:25] Benjamin Linden: do you mean in the text that appears on-screen (not in the history window?_
[10:25] Tao Takashi: should be part of the maps functionality
[10:25] Summer Seale: that's definitely a plus
[10:25] Tao Takashi: I mean in the on-screen overlay
[10:25] Tao Takashi: not the window
[10:26] Summer Seale: like in somebody's picks - the ability to get an LM instead of teleporting right away.
[10:26] Tao Takashi: for me it's enough sometimes to see that there is an IM waiting (button) but I don't need to see it
[10:26] Tao Takashi: esp. when discussing something
[10:26] Wyn Galbraith: Exactly.
[10:26] Benjamin Linden: I see, so seeing the IM's interrupts the flow of your in-world conversation
[10:26] Tao Takashi: yes, esp. with many active groups
[10:26] Summer Seale: ya
[10:26] Very Susanti: omg yes if you are in active IM groups I have to use the history window to have any chance of following chat
[10:26] Summer Seale: well, i only use history
[10:27] Tao Takashi: if I'd only use history I could also use IRC ;-)
[10:27] Summer Seale: i don't know how people do without history actually.... =)
[10:27] Benjamin Linden: the idea of creating a landmark from someone's picks has come up and we definitely want to incorporate that somehow
[10:27] Tao Takashi: but of course I also do use history
[10:27] Wyn Galbraith: Sometimes group IMs are distracting. Would be nice to be able to turn them off without leaving the group. Might incourage more politenesss too.
[10:27] Tao Takashi: just make the "Save LM" an option of the map
[10:27] Summer Seale: first keys i hit when i log in: control-t and control-h =)
[10:27] Wyn Galbraith: *encourage.
[10:27] Tao Takashi: you can go from the pick to the map and save it there
[10:27] Tao Takashi: first thing I do is to disable the camera constraint ;-)
[10:28] Summer Seale: that's the 3rd thing i do, ya
[10:28] Tao Takashi: this actually should be remembered or some prefs option IMHO
[10:28] Summer Seale: it would be nice if these got saved in the UI when you log out so we don't have to do it each time, btw.
[10:28] Summer Seale: GMTA, Tao =)
[10:28] Wyn Galbraith: Save LM I agree on the map too. If you're at a meeting *cough* or a party/gathering/whatever and you see a location you want to check out like tomorrow, then a Save LM button would be a life saver.
[10:28] Summer Seale: ya happens to me a lot actually
[10:28] Benjamin Linden: that actually just came up in the sldev list, Tao
[10:29] Benjamin Linden: about saving the camera constraint option
[10:29] Summer Seale: well not only camera constraints, but also IM window and history. can we save those in the future sowe don't have to pull it up each time we log in?
[10:29] Benjamin Linden: we were discussing that as part of the new Chatterbox design
[10:30] Benjamin Linden: which, as some of you know, combines the history, IM, friends and groups windows
[10:30] Very Susanti: there is an option for reloading personal settings overrides in the client menu, but not one for saving them
[10:30] Benjamin Linden: but we wanted to preserve the option of tearing out the history tab into a separate window and remembering where that window is
[10:30] Wyn Galbraith often uses search and serendipitously find something else of interest... "I'll have to checkout the chatterbox.
[10:30] Benjamin Linden: (which reminds me that I need to check on the status of that)
[10:31] Benjamin Linden: hi Conway, welcome
[10:31] conway Amat: Hi...
[10:31] conway Amat: I was looking for help.... Can I find it here?
[10:31] conway Amat: Nice to meet you ben
[10:31] Tao Takashi: I am always confused by the lists ;-) sldev = open source list in this case?
[10:31] Benjamin Linden: likewise, Conway
[10:31] Summer Seale: ao off
[10:31] Benjamin Linden: depends on what kind of help you're looking for...
[10:32] Benjamin Linden: yes, Tao, sldev is the open source list
[10:32] conway Amat: Well.... I own the hangout
[10:32] Benjamin Linden: but there is a lot of general discussion there too
[10:32] conway Amat: as well as burg islands.
[10:32] Tao Takashi: I am subscribed to it but a bit behind right now
[10:32] Very Susanti: it would also be nice to have a quick way of muting in world sounds, like at a live music event, where everyone asks you to / type. I know you can do it in preferences, but a lot of people don't know it and get rude if you forget the /
[10:32] conway Amat: And I can't log in cause the password has been changed. .. And I couldn't answer secuirty questions... lol
[10:32] Tao Takashi: muting in the live music case maybe should be a parcel option
[10:32] Very Susanti: for muting the chitter sound while typing
[10:33] conway Amat: So now it won't let me try anymore.
[10:33] conway Amat: and I can't log on to my real avatar..
[10:33] conway Amat: and do my work
[10:33] Tao Takashi: but we had this discussion some months ago which resulted in the enhance audio prefs
[10:33] Very Susanti: even better Tao
[10:33] Tao Takashi: which nobody knows how to use ;-)
[10:33] Wyn Galbraith: Strange, I ha that problem last night. Had to change my password twice.
[10:33] Summer Seale: there's an easy security question you can always answer, i'm sure: where is your home point area.
[10:33] Very Susanti: haha
[10:33] Tao Takashi: or maybe knows but never does because it's a hassle to do so
[10:33] conway Amat: Yes... I would love to change my password.
[10:33] Very Susanti: I use it
[10:33] conway Amat: but I can't
[10:33] conway Amat: haha
[10:33] Squirrel Wood: Yes. I found it impossible to must objects at all. like, the 1118 lolspheres that are probably still haunting Furnation Kami...
[10:33] Wyn Galbraith: Conway you'll have to make the phone call, I think.
[10:34] Squirrel Wood: must = mute
[10:34] Benjamin Linden: actually we are also rolling out a new volume control tab, which will replace the movies and music tabs
[10:34] conway Amat: I have
[10:34] conway Amat: no one is answering
[10:34] Wyn Galbraith just discovered the joys of mute last week ;)
[10:34] Benjamin Linden: it will allow you to easily control the master volume as well as each of the individual sound levels
[10:34] Wyn Galbraith: TRy now.
[10:34] Very Susanti: haha especially at a welcome center
[10:34] Benjamin Linden: this is coming with voice chat as well
[10:34] Theodore Folsom: sounds great Ben
[10:34] Summer Seale: conway, give it a few mins and try again. it probably only locks you out for a few minutes.
[10:34] Benjamin Linden: Conway, have you filed a support request?
[10:34] Very Susanti: if only mute made an offending griefer invisible too and their attachments
[10:34] Tao Takashi: cool, will it be soon on beta?
[10:34] conway Amat: Actually.
[10:34] Summer Seale: and answer the question on the security form at the bottom cuz it's the easiest to remember: wehre your home point is set.
[10:34] conway Amat: yes
[10:35] Wyn Galbraith: /laughs Good Very.
[10:35] conway Amat: I emailed support@lindenlab.com
[10:35] Benjamin Linden: haha, muting 'visible" came up on sldev too
[10:35] Tao Takashi: btw, I don't think those buttons need to be visible all the time (movies and music), maybe just some popup window would be ok
[10:35] Benjamin Linden: I wish I had that in real life sometimes :-)
[10:35] Summer Seale: heh that's a good idea. making a griefer 'invisible' as part of mute.
[10:35] Tao Takashi: muting "visible" is an old topic ;-)
[10:35] Tao Takashi: might actually also be related to age verification
[10:35] Very Susanti: and muting just their inworld sounds would be nice too
[10:35] Summer Seale: i generally am not bothered by griefers tho.
[10:35] Benjamin Linden: that's sort of the idea, Tao, it will be a single small tab that you can expand to see all the other options
[10:35] Wyn Galbraith: Had that thought yesterday, Benjamin.
[10:35] Very Susanti: don't know how practical that is though
[10:36] Tao Takashi: "mute all except my stuff"
[10:36] Very Susanti: um just close your client Tao lol
[10:36] Tao Takashi: on sldev we also had the discussion of separate spaces I think, where you can hide in some black hole with full privacy
[10:36] Benjamin Linden: which thought was that, Wyn?
[10:36] Tao Takashi: if I close my client I will also mute my stuff ;-)
[10:36] Wyn Galbraith: Mute in RL.
[10:36] Very Susanti: haha you do have that option
[10:36] Summer Seale: black hole for privacy?
[10:36] Very Susanti: close off your SIM
[10:36] Summer Seale: like a mog house in FFXI?
[10:36] Squirrel Wood: You know how on linux desktops you can "hide" the "task/button bar" ? Something like that would be nice
[10:36] Very Susanti: I do that whie working
[10:37] Very Susanti: and my sim is not connected to other land so it is real privacy
[10:37] Wyn Galbraith: You can hide the task bar in Windows as well.
[10:37] Summer Seale: yes give everyone a mog house like in FFXI! =) that we can decorate with no prim limits. =)
[10:37] Benjamin Linden: yes, I'd like to get to a point where the UI just "goes away" when you don't need it
[10:37] Wyn Galbraith: What's a mog house
[10:38] Wyn Galbraith thinks she'll always have to deal with crowded windows until she gets a screen as big as a wall.
[10:38] Summer Seale: it's a little square room with your furniture and 'stuff' in it in FFXI where you can find privacy. it's not on the actual 'grid' per se, and you can't use any furniture and stuff cuz that's not how the game works, but you can make it pretty and hang out there nice and quiet and just answer IMs and the like.
[10:39] Summer Seale: you can buy stuff and put it inside. it's very different from SL tho obviously.
[10:39] Summer Seale: i used to play.
[10:39] Wyn Galbraith: Oh.
[10:39] Wyn Galbraith would rather play with stuff ;)
[10:39] Summer Seale: ya i was only kinda kidding when he said a black hole =)
[10:39] Summer Seale: well, sometimes beating stuff up is fun too.
[10:39] Benjamin Linden: you can create private places now, right, by setting access rights?
[10:40] Summer Seale: i don't think that's what he meant tho.
[10:40] Summer Seale: that's why i brought up the mog house, but i wasn't being totally serious either =)
[10:40] Very Susanti: only if you have a full sim
[10:40] Very Susanti: unconnected from other sims
[10:40] Summer Seale: right
[10:40] Summer Seale: i do
[10:40] Summer Seale: but i'm one of a few hundred out of half a million?
[10:41] Summer Seale: oh yes...
[10:41] Very Susanti: me too :))
[10:41] Summer Seale: here's a queston for you
[10:41] Summer Seale: is there *any* chance that we can get a sort of limiting chat in an area so that somebody 18m away can't stand outside a window and just listen through a wall?
[10:41] Very Susanti: which is good cause my tests crash it pretty often lol
[10:41] Summer Seale: i mean that gets *extremely* annoying sometimes. =/
[10:42] Summer Seale: the fact that basically there is no privacy
[10:42] Benjamin Linden: I think that's a great idea, Summer, but I'm not sure if the current architecture enables that
[10:42] Summer Seale: i know, but i figured i'd mention it
[10:42] Tao Takashi: it was discussed here and there
[10:42] Benjamin Linden: this is a concern for voice chat as well
[10:42] Tao Takashi: it might be one application of opensim
[10:42] Benjamin Linden: although you will be able to limit voice chat to a parcel
[10:42] Summer Seale: i couldn't care less about voice chat, honestly. i know you guys think it's cool and threw a lot of stuff into it....but i still couldn't care less. =)
[10:42] Very Susanti: you can restrict spacialized sound
[10:42] Benjamin Linden: so you could theoretically wall off that parcel
[10:42] Wyn Galbraith: You have to kind of expect that if you are an essence running through software code that there really is no privacy.
[10:42] Benjamin Linden: and then no one could hear you
[10:43] Very Susanti: and IM is the best for privacy
[10:43] Squirrel Wood: hmm
[10:43] Very Susanti: or a friends conference
[10:43] Summer Seale: well if i want prvacy i take it to IMs but sometimes you forget and you get into conversations
[10:43] Squirrel Wood: Mayhaps an option like... "Only Group Members can hear chat on this parcel" may be a solution?
[10:43] Very Susanti: haha I have typed inappropriate things into a group IM by accident
[10:43] Wyn Galbraith: Interesting idea.
[10:43] Benjamin Linden: lol @ Very
[10:43] Summer Seale: speaking of which i have to kick somebody from a group - again
[10:44] Benjamin Linden: that's an interesting idea, Squirrel
[10:44] Wyn Galbraith: I do that on MU* channels. Always mischanning.
[10:44] Benjamin Linden: I need to review the group roles for voice chat again
[10:44] Squirrel Wood: It may make people happy who don't want other people to listen in
[10:44] Wyn Galbraith: Have to watch what you say ;)
[10:44] Summer Seale: ooh! you MU* too?
[10:44] Summer Seale: i'm a musher too
[10:44] Summer Seale: well i used t obe
[10:44] Summer Seale: yay
[10:44] Wyn Galbraith: Yep. MUSH mostly.
[10:44] Summer Seale: yup!
[10:44] Summer Seale: w00t! <3
[10:45] Benjamin Linden: lol
[10:45] Summer Seale: i was thinking of starting a MUSH group in SL for all us ex-MU*ers
[10:45] Wyn Galbraith: I actually came to SL to create 3D versions of my textbased characters.
[10:45] Summer Seale: cool
[10:45] Benjamin Linden: that's very cool, Wyn
[10:45] Wyn Galbraith: I have some camped out on a part of my land. OtherVerse from jointhesaga.com
[10:45] Summer Seale: i'm guessing benjamin either used to MU* or has no idea what we're talking about.
[10:46] Benjamin Linden: I remember playing the old text-based MOOs and wanting to model the world in 3d apps on my Amiga :-)
[10:46] Wyn Galbraith: We're not ex-mu*'rs though, we do both.
[10:46] Summer Seale: yay
[10:46] Summer Seale: i don't MU* anymore. i can't keep pace with more than one game at once.
[10:46] Summer Seale: too buys RL
[10:46] Summer Seale: er busy
[10:46] Wyn Galbraith: I've been off for two years doing my AA.
[10:46] Benjamin Linden: has anyone recreated entire areas of the old text-based worlds in SL?
[10:46] Squirrel Wood: Ooo... I once programmed me a room based adventure on my amiga... text parser included ^^
[10:47] Summer Seale: woot
[10:47] Benjamin Linden: I'd love to check em out
[10:47] Wyn Galbraith: Been thinking about it Benjamin. I need to create the ship for one of my characters.
[10:47] Summer Seale: we should definitely start a MU*er group
[10:47] Very Susanti: yeah me too squirrel
[10:47] Wyn Galbraith: Hard though when the game is mostly space based. :D
[10:47] Wyn Galbraith wants SL Space someday.
[10:47] Benjamin Linden: I'm sure a lot of people SL are former MU*ers
[10:47] Summer Seale: i'm sorry i just have to say the two furries there are just *adorably* cute like that <3
[10:47] Summer Seale: sorry girly moment. carry on.
[10:48] Squirrel Wood: hehe
[10:48] Wyn Galbraith: That's why we're so comfortable with chat I think.
[10:48] Summer Seale: ya!
[10:48] Benjamin Linden: it's true, I like the hoofs Theodore
[10:48] Theodore Folsom: fanks Ben :D
[10:48] Very Susanti: and you can walk away from the puter with chat
[10:48] Summer Seale: well that and it's neater to talk to 20 people at once with chat. try it with voice. it'll be a nightmare.
[10:48] Squirrel Wood: I think Theo is afk
[10:48] Squirrel Wood: or not
[10:48] Summer Seale: i gave theo a few kisses on the nose in IMs cuz he's so cute
[10:48] Benjamin Linden: yes, I'm thinking I may just keep my office hours in text even after voice comes out
[10:48] Theodore Folsom eeps!
[10:48] Harold Redgrave: hello everyone :)
[10:48] Summer Seale: totally
[10:48] Summer Seale: hey harold =)
[10:48] Benjamin Linden: it's very hard to keep track of multiple threads with voice
[10:48] Wyn Galbraith: Theo is very cute. *winkwink* and Squirrel is always lovely.
[10:48] Very Susanti: and I am in a coffee shop now
[10:48] Benjamin Linden: hi Harold
[10:48] Squirrel Wood: [1:35] Benjamin Linden: (Saved Sat May 19 03:51:51 2007) Hey Squirrel, I want to check out your rollercoaster. Where is it?
[10:48] Theodore Folsom: Hullo Harold
[10:49] Wyn Galbraith: I operate 90 percent of the time with my sound muted anyway.
[10:49] Summer Seale: me too
[10:49] Benjamin Linden: oh yeah, I put it in my list of places to go check out Sqiurrel
[10:49] Very Susanti: couldn't do that in voice
[10:49] Squirrel Wood: ^^
[10:49] Summer Seale: except when i dance on stage so i can dance to the music. i sync to it but tha'ts different. most of the time the sound is muted to the max
[10:49] Wyn Galbraith: And my kittens ate my headset cords last year when I got it for the other place ;)... there.
[10:50] Very Susanti: haha my headset makes me sound like a longtime smoker
[10:50] Summer Seale: oh i got a headset. i'm just not gonna bother. there's no way i can conduct debates with voice with that many people, and i'm not even gonna try.
[10:50] Benjamin Linden: ok well we have about 10 minutes left, did anyone have any other questions or comments
[10:50] Wyn Galbraith chuckles way to much.
[10:50] Benjamin Linden: about Search, or groups, or voice chat, or anything?
[10:50] Summer Seale: ya i had a comment. you're the first linden i've ever seen who doesn't have a boring standard AV, benjamin.
[10:50] Summer Seale: and that's appreciated.
[10:50] Harold Redgrave: when will voice be released as a mainviewer?
[10:50] Wyn Galbraith: Need more groups. 25 is not enough.
[10:50] Benjamin Linden: lol, thanks Summer!
[10:50] Benjamin Linden: there are some of us with interesting ones
[10:50] Summer Seale: and i know some of them from other meetings
[10:51] Benjamin Linden: Torley always has fun avs; he'll be here in a few minutes
[10:51] Squirrel Wood: Don't tell me youz haven't seen Torley yet? ^^
[10:51] Wyn Galbraith: And a mute group IMs button would be great.
[10:51] Very Susanti: um I often wonder if after we have had a discussion what ideas were really noted as opposed to just talked about
[10:51] Summer Seale: oh!
[10:51] Wyn Galbraith: Temporarily mute.
[10:51] Summer Seale: yes one more thing!!!
[10:51] Summer Seale: ok
[10:51] Theodore Folsom: agreed, 25 groups is not enough especially if you run a business
[10:51] Summer Seale: listen
[10:51] Summer Seale: i have more than you can imagine on my friends list
[10:51] Very Susanti: is there ever any minutes or a quick rundown of the ideas posted anywhere
[10:51] Harold Redgrave: its the first time i seen a real linden in sl ;)
[10:51] Summer Seale: please..*please* let us organize friends into folders, and also put a check box so that we don't have to 'listen' to *every* friend connect/disconnect. i only want to know if *some* of them do, not all.
[10:52] Wyn Galbraith: You could easily use 10 groups just for business. You'd have to create a alt to hold the groups.
[10:52] Benjamin Linden: that's a good point Very, it depends on what we talk about. some things I immediately put into our project management system
[10:52] Summer Seale: and a search for friends feature might be nice down the road.
[10:52] Benjamin Linden: so that people can look at them and start working on them
[10:52] Wyn Galbraith: Oh, Summer, like what Trillian does.
[10:52] Summer Seale: ya
[10:52] Squirrel Wood: Hmm.. Could mayhaps people on your friend list be flagged somehow if they haven't logged in during the past 6 months or so to make it easier to weed out dead accounts?
[10:52] Benjamin Linden: sometimes I email people questions that come up
[10:52] Summer Seale: because managing friends for me is a frigging nightmare right now =/
[10:52] Very Susanti: it wuld be really helpfull if it was in a blog so residents not here could comment on it
[10:52] Benjamin Linden: sometimes I just sit and think about what we talk about :-)
[10:52] Summer Seale: i used to try to limit them and now i just accept anyone cuz i've given up
[10:53] Benjamin Linden: I do post the chat sessions to my user page on the wiki
[10:53] Very Susanti: K I didn't know
[10:53] Summer Seale: i like your space here btw, ben
[10:53] Summer Seale: it's nice
[10:53] Wyn Galbraith thinks managing her inventory is her nightmare.
[10:53] Summer Seale: omg another pony <3 <3
[10:53] Wyn Galbraith: More ponies!
[10:53] Very Susanti: it is just I suspect popular ideas get fixed first
[10:53] Summer Seale: omg are they gonna nuzzle?
[10:53] Wyn Galbraith loves ponies.
[10:53] Summer Seale: me too
[10:53] Benjamin Linden: hi Zuffy
[10:53] Zuffy Frua: teehee
[10:53] Zuffy Frua whinnies
[10:53] Very Susanti: and I wonder how to gauge that
[10:53] Summer Seale: wow
[10:53] Summer Seale: <3 <3
[10:54] Summer Seale: omg omg i heard that =)
[10:54] Summer Seale: *muahs*
[10:54] Zuffy Frua: hehe
[10:54] Zuffy Frua whinnies
[10:54] Summer Seale: omg <3 <3
[10:54] Summer Seale: kk i'lll stop i jsut gotta hug them after
[10:54] Very Susanti: one other question
[10:54] Benjamin Linden: sure, shoot Very
[10:55] Very Susanti: whose linden hours are best for lobbying for a lsl fix or new feature
[10:55] Tao Takashi: Zero?
[10:55] Summer Seale: i think what's his name...rob linden? or zero
[10:55] Summer Seale: ya
[10:55] Summer Seale: i've been to their meetings
[10:55] Very Susanti: I want to start a bring back avatar rotation campaign
[10:55] Squirrel Wood: Hmm.. Could mayhaps people on your friend list be flagged somehow if they haven't logged in during the past 6 months or so to make it easier to weed out dead accounts?
[10:55] Wyn Galbraith: Does Cyn Linden really have office hours? There's no landmark.
[10:55] Very Susanti: isn't Rob open source?
[10:56] Summer Seale: rob is open source but he's a treasure trove of coding info
[10:56] Very Susanti: and developers?
[10:56] Wyn Galbraith: What was the avatar rotation thing?
[10:56] Tao Takashi: she is on ambleside
[10:56] Squirrel Wood: Mmm. Open Sauce ^^
[10:56] Very Susanti: llpointAt been deprecated for a while now
[10:56] Very Susanti: and no substitute
[10:56] Benjamin Linden: sorry I'm trying to catch up on the chat log
[10:56] Wyn Galbraith: Oh.
[10:56] Tao Takashi: but I was only at Cyn's twice.. one time I was the only guest, then I was waiting with 1 other person but she didn't show up
[10:56] Benjamin Linden: Very, to answer your question, I would definitely go to Rob's office hours
[10:56] Very Susanti: I think I was there
[10:56] Very Susanti: K
[10:56] Tao Takashi: which is strange as all sorts of people seem to complain about support
[10:56] Benjamin Linden: for things related to LSL
[10:56] Very Susanti: thanx
[10:56] Wyn Galbraith: I IM'd her where her office was, never got an answer.
[10:57] Theodore Folsom nickers.
[10:57] Tao Takashi: I just had it in some german forum, everybody complaining but nobody with a constructive idea
[10:57] Very Susanti: and will there be an sculptie issues office hours?
[10:57] Benjamin Linden: and if there are simple fixes to UI problems (that don't involve redesigning the entire feature), you should bring them up here
[10:57] Tao Takashi: more or less grinning about it..
[10:57] Summer Seale: i havent even tried sculpties yet hehe.
[10:57] Benjamin Linden: Torley and I discuss these issues and advocate to have them fixed
[10:57] Wyn Galbraith has been playing with them.
[10:58] Tao Takashi: oh yes, what happened to my idea to name the objects per default different than "Object"? :)
[10:58] Very Susanti: they are nice but not easy to use
[10:58] Very Susanti: especially texturing them
[10:58] Wyn Galbraith: Need a better tool for creating them.
[10:58] Tao Takashi: well, they have the same problem as classic 3d models I guess regarding textures
[10:58] Squirrel Wood: Tao Takashis wonderful new cube/sphere/ring ?
[10:59] Tao Takashi: but those issues are good at Zero's office hours as well I think
[10:59] Tao Takashi: No, "Box created on Theta at 2007/05/03"
[10:59] Benjamin Linden: I created that as a task in our bug tracking system, Tao
[10:59] Very Susanti: haha I have been creating them in little java programs
[10:59] Summer Seale: ooh robin linden has an office hours now at 11am
[10:59] Summer Seale: she's cool
[10:59] Tao Takashi: yes, Summer
[10:59] Wyn Galbraith: Here's my sculpty hat, all done with Torley textures ;)
[10:59] Summer Seale: ooh nice hat!
[10:59] Tao Takashi: I think she has the toughest office hours ;-)
[10:59] Summer Seale: i like
[10:59] Wyn Galbraith: Not finished yet.
[11:00] Summer Seale: ya i've been to some of her meetings
[11:00] Very Susanti: what is Robin's topic?
[11:00] Benjamin Linden: nice hat Wyn!
[11:00] Wyn Galbraith: Thanks.
[11:00] Summer Seale: don't rememberi haven't been in a while
[11:00] Summer Seale: they sorta blend in
[11:00] Very Susanti: can I whine about items in my inventory that are locked?
[11:00] Benjamin Linden: yes, Robin has to field a lot of hard questions
[11:00] Torley Linden: hello everyone :)
[11:00] Summer Seale: i think she does like general stuff like user experience or something
[11:00] Wyn Galbraith: I'm off to Robin's next.
[11:00] Very Susanti: Hi Torley
[11:00] Squirrel Wood: I spy a Torley ^^
[11:00] Summer Seale: oh wow
[11:00] Zuffy Frua: hihi!
[11:00] Theodore Folsom: Hullo Torley
[11:00] Summer Seale: a torley and what an AV!
[11:01] Benjamin Linden: Robin's office hours are focused on community issues
[11:01] Zuffy Frua: big scary lookin linden!
[11:01] Summer Seale: ya that's right
[11:01] Summer Seale: poor robin
[11:01] Tao Takashi: Robin's topics these days are age verficiation, abuse reporting, general policies and the like
[11:01] Wyn Galbraith: She handles it very well.
[11:01] Torley Linden: hehehe
[11:01] Summer Seale: she has to be the scapegoat for all the public LL screwups that nobody likes =)
[11:01] Very Susanti: is there a way to report personal issues like my inventory item xxx is locked and won't rez or attach?
[11:01] Summer Seale: i know, you have no official comment at this time =)
[11:01] Benjamin Linden: ok guys, well Torley and I have a meeting now
[11:01] Summer Seale: ok!
[11:01] Torley Linden: good to see you all here
[11:01] Summer Seale: ao on
[11:01] Very Susanti: ok bye thank you
[11:01] Wyn Galbraith: Torley!
[11:01] Summer Seale: thank you benjamin
[11:02] Benjamin Linden: Thanks for coming everyone!
[11:02] Summer Seale: your office is great and you were really cool
[11:02] Theodore Folsom: thanks Ben, was a pleasure
[11:02] Wyn Galbraith: Thanks Benjamin
[11:02] Squirrel Wood: Always fun to be here ^^
[11:02] Benjamin Linden: thanks Summer!
[11:02] Theodore Folsom: HrrHrr...
[11:02] Summer Seale: imma give the pony a hug <3
[11:02] Wyn Galbraith: Off to Robins, shall we swarm?
[11:02] Summer Seale: cuz he's so cute <3
[11:02] Tao Takashi: thanks for hosting, Benjamin :)
