- [15:01] Jessica Lyon: I lol'd
- [15:02] Kratalchen Toxx: we all had xD
- [15:02] Oskar Linden: ok here we go https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Beta_Server_Office_Hours
- [15:02] Oskar Linden: agenda time
- [15:03] Oskar Linden: two kay eleven is finally here
- [15:03] Oskar Linden: I'm excited for this year
- [15:03] Oskar Linden: we even have a new CEO which is exciting
- [15:03] Oskar Linden: but we're not getting into that
- [15:03] Rickk Turbo: what happened to the last one?
- [15:03] RedMokum Bravin: For how long are you going to keep him? :-p
- [15:03] Oskar Linden: who did something fun over the break?
- [15:04] Rickk Turbo: was he asking too much money ;)
- [15:04] Jessica Lyon: I broke display names >.<
- [15:04] Rex Cronon: hi and happy new year everybody:)
- [15:04] Kadah Coba: Yeah, we did, lol
- [15:04] Kadah Coba: System overload, go
- [15:04] Latif Khalifa: can it be more broken Jessica? ;)
- [15:04] Jessica Lyon: lol
- [15:04] Oskar Linden: I took a nice long break
- [15:04] Oskar Linden: I was offline for most of it
- [15:04] Oskar Linden: it was nice
- [15:04] Oskar Linden: I needed that
- [15:04] Oskar Linden: but it's good to be back
- [15:04] Oskar Linden: I missed you guys
- [15:05] Jessica Lyon: aww
- [15:05] Oskar Linden: and girls
- [15:05] Draconis Neurocam: we missed you too oskar
- [15:05] RedMokum Bravin: The grid was somewhat empty without you, Oskar.
- [15:05] Oskar Linden: aww
- [15:05] Latif KhalifaLatif: Khalifa is sure Oskar missed him a lot :P
- [15:05] Oskar Linden: especially ADITI which died
- [15:05] Faust Vollmar: Well hey I didn't log in naked this time. Atleast from my viewer. =p
- [15:05] Oskar Linden: the util host needed a swift kick in the pants
- [15:05] Kadah Coba: Apparently if twice as many people start using DNs, the servers fold in half like a soggy pizzabox
- [15:05] Kadah Coba: :P
- [15:05] Kadah Coba: Or something like that
- [15:05] Flip Idlemind: I logged in naked but it wa intentional
- [15:05] Jessica Lyon: >.<
- [15:06] Oskar Linden: well let's get this thing started
- [15:06] Oskar Linden: I got a text at 11pm monday night from Lil
- [15:06] Oskar Linden: he was like so you know there's a release at 6am tomorrow morning right?
- [15:06] Oskar Linden: have fun man
- [15:06] Oskar Linden: *sigh*
- [15:06] Jessica Lyon: lol
- [15:06] Oskar Linden: so after half a month break I get dropped into a 6am release
- [15:06] Rickk Turbo: so who's the new CEO, steve ballmer?
- [15:06] Oskar Linden: it seemed to go well though
- [15:06] (dantia.gothly): is now known as ob up.
- [15:07] Rickk Turbo: :)
- [15:07] Jessica Lyon: minus the voice issue
- [15:07] Oskar Linden: you can read about the CEO in the press releases at lindenlab.com
- [15:07] Rickk Turbo: k
- [15:07] Homeless: impressive: resume
- [15:07] Oskar Linden: the voice issue is fallout from our new release process
- [15:07] Kadah Coba: [1] [2]
- [15:07] Homeless: should: be interesting
- [15:07] Oskar Linden: occasionally we have to hotfix the config files on the fly
- [15:07] Flip Idlemind: How much actual work is a release? Is there a big red "rolling restart" button or is it more complicated
- [15:08] Oskar Linden: but then when we go to do a new release it comes from an older repository and we usually forget that the config file has changed since then
- [15:08] Oskar Linden: we're getting better though
- [15:08] Jonathan Yap: [3]
- [15:08] Draconis Neurocam: (draconis.neurocam) is now known as draconis.neurocam.
- [15:08] Oskar Linden: wasn't much of a downtime
- [15:08] Oskar Linden: call it a moment of silence for the new year
- [15:08] Jessica Lyon: lol
- [15:08] Kratalchen Toxx: .lol xD
- [15:09] Rickk Turbo: Rod Linden
- [15:09] Oskar Linden: so the main channel has the compression project live, but disabled
- [15:09] Faust Vollmar: Game developer huh. Suddenly I got a lot more hopeful... =p
- [15:09] Oskar Linden: the compression project is exciting
- [15:09] Jessica LyonJessica: Lyon was impressed with the region crossings
- [15:09] Oskar Linden: helps with TP's and region crossings
- [15:09] Rex Cronon: pretty soon we might end with gems above our heads. as somebody else said:)
- [15:10] Oskar Linden: I have some cool graphs for you guys
- [15:10] Kratalchen Toxx: I noticed it on my way here
- [15:10] Jessica Lyon: \o/ graphs
- [15:10] Flip Idlemind: Yay visuals
- [15:10] Oskar Linden: I was very curious how much data gets sent per tp/region crossing
- [15:10] Oskar Linden: Xan Linden made some nice graphs
- [15:10] Oskar Linden: he really is good at that
- [15:10] Oskar LindenOskar: Linden hunts in his inv
- [15:11] Homeless: loading...:
- [15:11] Oskar Linden: ok the first graph shows average avatar filesize
- [15:11] Oskar Linden: as well as average attachments
- [15:11] Rickk Turbo: and it all good news?
- [15:11] Oskar Linden: so on average most avatars are under 5mb in size
- [15:12] Kadah Coba: How are some avatars having less than 0MB of scirpts? (top graph)
- [15:12] Oskar Linden: that is a lot to send every region crossing
- [15:12] Jessica Lyon: yuh o.0
- [15:12] Mericatherine Quinnell: I've met some of those 20K buggers
- [15:12] Oskar Linden: Tigg's new compression work projected 90% compression on average
- [15:12] Faust Vollmar: Whoa
- [15:12] Oskar Linden: which os great
- [15:12] Oskar Linden: so this morning we switched it on for Magnum regions
- [15:12] ac14 Hutson: i think its just average size of the user data, not scripts.
- [15:12] Oskar Linden: and the difference was immediately noticeable
- [15:13] Rickk Turbo: so crossing region creates lag?
- [15:13] Oskar Linden: the tp failure rate dropped
- [15:13] Oskar Linden: let me get graph #2
- [15:13] Jessica Lyon: nice
- [15:13] Latif KhalifaLatif: Khalifa hates teleport timeouts with a passion
- [15:13] Jessica Lyon: ^
- [15:13] Rickk TurboRickk: Turbo hates getting bumped off SL cos the server timed out
- [15:13] Oskar Linden: that's a before and after we flippe dthe switch
- [15:14] Kadah Coba: Niiiiiiiiiiice :3
- [15:14] RedMokum Bravin: Impressive
- [15:14] Oskar Linden: avg tp failures on magnum regions dropped in half
- [15:14] Mericatherine Quinnell: very good
- [15:14] Oskar Linden: pretty impressive
- [15:14] Oskar Linden: unless we find some huge glitch over the weekend we'll update all of AGNI
- [15:14] Oskar Linden: where'd my graph go?
- [15:14] Oskar Linden: maestro?
- [15:14] Jessica Lyon: I didn't do it!
- [15:14] Kratalchen Toxx: o_O !!
- [15:15] Rickk Turbo: deleted?
- [15:15] Homeless: die: script?
- [15:15] Jessica Lyon: was it.. temp? lol
- [15:15] Maestro Linden: maybe you rezzed it over that parcel with autoreturn on..
- [15:15] Faust Vollmar: Best way to find a glitch: Have all of us Teleport and regioncross like crazy ahain. >=D
- [15:15] Faust Vollmar: again*
- [15:15] Oskar Linden: but the other didn't get returned
- [15:15] Kratalchen Toxx: .•:**:•. HaHaHa .•:**:•.
- [15:15] RedMokum Bravin: erm
- [15:15] Oskar Linden: hah
- [15:15] Maestro Linden: did it?
- [15:15] Rickk Turbo: it's a sandbox region
- [15:15] Oskar Linden: guess so X-D
- [15:15] Maestro Linden: yep, Rickk knows :)
- [15:15] Rickk Turbo: you dont get it sent back
- [15:15] Jessica Lyon: if someone was selecting it, it won't get returned until they let go
- [15:15] Rickk Turbo: lol yeh
- [15:16] Rickk Turbo: i know
- [15:16] Oskar LindenOskar: Linden is a nooooob
- [15:16] Draconis Neurocam: theres a 1 minute return timer on the parcel
- [15:16] Kadah Coba: lol, Oskar found the autoreturn to nowhere fail bug
- [15:16] Rickk TurboRickk: Turbo blames the master mole
- [15:16] Oskar Linden: ok there we go
- [15:16] Rickk Turbo: :)
- [15:16] Maestro Linden: ok, set that to 10min
- [15:16] Oskar Linden: in the maintennance group now
- [15:17] Oskar Linden: last graph
- [15:17] StUdLeY Dexing: wow
- [15:17] Oskar Linden: average region crossing times
- [15:18] Draconis Neurocam: thats pretty nice
- [15:18] Kratalchen Toxx: thats great times
- [15:18] Faust VollmarFaust: Vollmar jawdrop
- [15:18] StUdLeY Dexing: well faster
- [15:18] Oskar Linden: so there you go
- [15:18] Kratalchen Toxx: from 11:00 on :O
- [15:18] Oskar Linden: quantitative proof we are making SL better :-p
- [15:19] Kratalchen Toxx: it was bad if not xD
- [15:19] Sigma AvroSigma: Avro applauses
- [15:19] Jessica Lyon: it's about time! lol
- [15:19] Kadah Coba: Wow, 1.5 second average down to like 0.6ish :O
- [15:19] Jessica Lyon: but ya.. impressive
- [15:19] Jonathan Yap: When this goes live on the whole grid you should publish these graphs on the blog
- [15:19] Latif Khalifa: so this will be flippen on the whole agne the next week?
- [15:19] Latif Khalifa: agni*
- [15:19] Oskar Linden: yes
- [15:19] Latif Khalifa: great!
- [15:19] Oskar Linden: barring any massive bugs that get shook out over the weekend
- [15:19] Oskar Linden: let me know what you find
- [15:20] Oskar Linden: we've also got a plan in place to go over our inter colo bandwidth usage info and see if we can improve that
- [15:20] Faust Vollmar: I don't think many people doubted the server engineers. =p Just marketing (and for some people, the viewer 2 team.)
- [15:20] Draconis Neurocam: very nice
- [15:20] Oskar Linden: we did put new code out on LeTigre and Magnum as well
- [15:21] Oskar Linden: i mean BlueSteel
- [15:21] Oskar Linden: also apparently Lil renamed all the LeTigre regions to BlueSteel in my absence
- [15:21] Oskar Linden: that's what I get for going on vacation
- [15:21] Kadah Coba: I noticed that too, lol
- [15:21] Oskar Linden: Lil needs a vacation
- [15:21] Oskar Linden: :-)
- [15:22] Oskar Linden: he works hard
- [15:22] Gooden Uggla: *nods*
- [15:22] Oskar Linden: I don't have a lot of details on the Sim Shutdown project
- [15:22] Oskar Linden: other than "Addresses back-end issues to make simulator/region restarts faster and more reliable. "
- [15:22] Homeless: just: so all the ground textures don't starrt looking like the sandboxes
- [15:22] Oskar Linden: Not a significant amount of code changes
- [15:22] Oskar Linden: but will help out during rolling restarts for sure
- [15:23] Maestro Linden: basically, the changes make simulators on a host take turns when they shut down and save their simstate, rather than all saving simstate simultaneously
- [15:24] Jessica Lyon: makes sense
- [15:24] Maestro Linden: (the traditional simultaneous behavior sometimes made shutdowns really slow in certain cases, especially for openspace/homestead regions)
- [15:24] Draconis Neurocam: i can imagine
- [15:24] Latif Khalifa: simstate is just an asset, right?
- [15:24] Latif Khalifa: stored there i mean
- [15:24] Gooden Uggla: Oskar, we asked if there could asbe a 2nd set of "just restarts" to clean up the shutdown bug, any traction on that?
- [15:24] Gooden Uggla: be*
- [15:25] Maestro Linden: yeah, but simstates are a lot bigger than other types of assets :)
- [15:25] Oskar Linden: you mean per rolling restart gooden?
- [15:25] Latif Khalifa: :)
- [15:25] Gooden Uggla: yes, it seems that restarting clean after a rolling restart fixes the shutdown problem
- [15:26] Gooden Uggla: anyone here see a problem with that idea?
- [15:26] Oskar Linden: there hasn't been traction on that. perhaps this code will remove that need
- [15:26] Gooden Uggla: damn
- [15:26] Oskar Linden: it'd be better to fix the root issue than to add another restart
- [15:26] Gooden Uggla: it seems like the easiest solution
- [15:27] Gooden Uggla: add a restart 2 hours later
- [15:27] Gooden Uggla: and just restart, not add code
- [15:27] Oskar Linden: so basically adding a shutdown with the new code
- [15:27] Oskar Linden: I see what you mean
- [15:27] Gooden Uggla: mmhmm
- [15:28] Gooden Uggla: until it's fixed
- [15:28] Oskar Linden: it makes sense from that pov
- [15:28] Oskar Linden: I'll mention it in the release huddle tomorrow
- [15:28] Gooden Uggla: thanks, i'n sure sims that get a lot of traffic will be happier
- [15:28] Rex Cronon: it would be even better if u could comb the code and remove any dangling pointers
- [15:29] Oskar Linden: so BlueSteel has a fun new project
- [15:29] Oskar Linden: "Prim Encroachment"
- [15:29] Kratalchen Toxx: comb the code xDDD
- [15:29] Oskar Linden: I have not messed with it at all
- [15:29] Kratalchen Toxx: if that was this easy xD
- [15:29] Oskar Linden: has anyone else?
- [15:29] Sigma Avro: wanders wath will happens t trees !
- [15:29] Rex Cronon: we can't see your server code:)
- [15:30] Kadah Coba: Will prim encroachment be enabled on mainland?
- [15:30] Jonathan Yap: Do any estate managers know to turn it on?
- [15:30] Oskar Linden: I'm not sure about that
- [15:30] Oskar Linden: the details are here: [4]
- [15:30] Kadah Coba: It doesn't say
- [15:30] Gearsawe Stonecutter: first I heard about it.
- [15:30] Sigma Avro: need of sim console in any case
- [15:30] Oskar Linden: people on BlueSteel regions can enable it
- [15:30] Kratalchen Toxx: I don't know it either but a few thousands of code lines would be reallistic...
- [15:31] Gooden Uggla: i played with turning it on, then lost my lunch dealing with the viewer, tho i do believe it's a good idea
- [15:31] Jessica Lyon: LOL
- [15:31] Homeless: how: do you turn it on?
- [15:31] Jonathan Yap: How does it handle sculpts -- well?
- [15:31] Gooden Uggla: i bought a nerw windows box (mac useer) just to use sim console
- [15:31] Oskar Linden: I think I found your lunch gooden
- [15:31] Oskar Linden: over here in the bushes
- [15:31] Maestro Linden: the wiki page Oskar just linked to details that, homeless
- [15:31] Gooden Uggla: on your shoes?
- [15:31] Kadah Coba: Jess, it uses the physical bounds
- [15:32] Sigma Avro: will plays with flexies to go on neighbours lands, lol
- [15:32] Jessica Lyon: bounding box?
- [15:32] Oskar Linden: so that's what we did this week.
- [15:32] Kadah Coba: "The returnability logic relies on the object's physical shape which can differ from its visible shape. There may be cases where an object appears to overlap but is not returnable, or visa versa. "
- [15:32] Gooden Uggla: a windows 7 PC jessica
- [15:32] Jessica Lyon: IC
- [15:33] Oskar Linden: we will be updating our central systems next week
- [15:33] Maestro Linden: actually, it's a bit tighter than the bounding box, Jessica. The server side check uses Havok to see if an object is encroaching.
- [15:33] Oskar Linden: we used to update them every release
- [15:33] Ash Qin: I don't think that deals with sculpty overlapping if the physical boundry of the sculpt is within the parcel.
- [15:33] Latif Khalifa: so this will enable 64m prims :)
- [15:33] Oskar Linden: but they have not been updated since we switched to the KCP
- [15:33] Jessica Lyon: well that's better than using bounding box lol.
- [15:33] Gooden Uggla: yup!
- [15:33] Oskar Linden: so we will clean house on AGNI next week
- [15:33] Oskar Linden: the centrals are basically all of the non simhost boxes
- [15:34] Gooden Uggla: oskar Good!
- [15:34] Oskar Linden: the utils hosts and web hosts and such
- [15:34] Sigma Avro: I would suggest a period of info about encrachment
- [15:34] Oskar Linden: they manage all the inbetween stuff
- [15:34] Oskar Linden: this is your period sigma ;-)
- [15:34] Oskar Linden: spread the word
- [15:34] Sigma Avro: tks Oskar
- [15:34] Oskar Linden: and the link
- [15:34] Oskar Linden: we upgraded the centrals on ADITI this afternoon
- [15:35] Flip Idlemind: Will that give us the option not to see display names on the dashboard friends list? (I know, unlikely, but I can still ask)
- [15:35] Gearsawe Stonecutter: now will it work if the prim goes over a sim boarder?
- [15:35] Oskar Linden: so if you see any untowards behaviour on ADITI over the weekend let me know
- [15:35] Oskar Linden: not sure about sim borders
- [15:35] Mericatherine Quinnell: when is 64m coming?
- [15:35] Latif Khalifa: don't switch it off when you leave for the weekend
- [15:35] Maestro Linden: not yet Gearsawe, but that's planned for a future iteration of encroachment
- [15:35] Gearsawe Stonecutter: k
- [15:35] Kratalchen Toxx: Good one Ann =)
- [15:36] Xan Linden: nice graphs :)
- [15:36] Oskar Linden: 64m comes with mesh
- [15:36] Oskar Linden: hey Xan!!
- [15:36] Kratalchen Toxx: when comes mesh?
- [15:36] Oskar Linden: everybody thank Xan for such ossm informative graphs
- [15:36] Xan Linden: heya, just stopping by :)
- [15:36] Kratalchen Toxx: thx Xan =)
- [15:36] Jessica Lyon: OSSM Graphs!
- [15:36] Homeless: thankx: Xan
- [15:36] Latif Khalifa: hey Xan
- [15:36] Mericatherine Quinnell: when comes 40 groups?
- [15:36] Xan Linden: can't wait for cmopression to go to the full grid
- [15:36] Ash Qin: Thanks Xan.
- [15:36] Sigma Avro: will it impact out of islands borders prims ?
- [15:37] Oskar Linden: group size changes are coming soon. this month later I think. not certain
- [15:37] Oskar Linden: so much good stuff right around the corner
- [15:37] Kratalchen Toxx: and meshes?
- [15:37] Oskar Linden: mesh in a few months or so I'm guessing
- [15:37] Oskar Linden: with havok improvements
- [15:37] Kratalchen Toxx: .•:**:•. HaHaHa .•:**:•.
- [15:37] Kratalchen Toxx: xD
- [15:37] Oskar Linden: group changes
- [15:37] Oskar Linden: group chat fixes *PLEASE*
- [15:38] RedMokum Bravin: XMPP?
- [15:38] Oskar Linden: you'll know more specifics on dates as soon as I do
- [15:38] RedMokum Bravin: XMMP
- [15:38] Latif Khalifa: they were all fixed by dec 31, all the chat problems you see are figment of your imaginatio ;)
- [15:38] Kratalchen Toxx: kay :)
- [15:38] Draconis Neurocam: i saw they just put up a repository for the xmpp group chat stuff recently
- [15:38] Oskar Linden: :-)
- [15:38] Jonathan Yap: Where is the repo for group chat?
- [15:38] Jessica Lyon: was looking at that ^
- [15:38] Ash Qin: Where can I read on the efforts of XMPP?
- [15:38] Oskar Linden: google?
- [15:38] Amethyst Rosencrans: is there any news on the display name issues? (LSL function and ???)?
- [15:39] Draconis Neurocam: [5]
- [15:39] Kadah Coba: You cant compile it atm, missing a lib
- [15:39] Ash Qin: Thanks, I wasn't aware that had gone to that extent.
- [15:39] Oskar Linden: and missing a key server side component
- [15:39] Ash QinAsh: Qin bookmarks to compile later.
- [15:40] Kratalchen Toxx: Yes...
- [15:40] Oskar Linden: but when it comes to ADITI you'll be one step ahead
- [15:40] Oskar Linden: still not sure how we're going to do good load testing of that off from agni
- [15:40] Jessica Lyon: Was about to say that
- [15:40] Latif Khalifa: hmm, i bet there is no docummentation on xmpp group chat
- [15:40] Maestro Linden: Amethyst: I know that the DN team is aware of the issues where all names resolve to ??? at times. I don't have any more specifics though..
- [15:41] Oskar Linden: we'll probably do it shark feeding style
- [15:41] Oskar Linden: toss some chum in the water
- [15:41] Ash Qin: Well, the source is there, so I'll figure out if it's some conferencing transport or federation etc.
- [15:41] Oskar Linden: bring in the masses then flip it on on agni
- [15:41] Serenity Rosencrans: what about the LSL periodically returning ""
- [15:41] Jessica Lyon: ugh
- [15:41] Oskar Linden: the LSL?
- [15:41] Serenity Rosencrans: llGetDisplayName()
- [15:41] Sigma Avro:
- [15:42] Xan LindenXan: Linden is helping the group chat team use data on current use and group size to set up xmpp/chat design & load requirements
- [15:42] Maestro Linden: I *think* the LSL case might have the same underlying problem
- [15:42] Lex Mars: It is probably a symptom of the same issue... the DN query server isn't returning valid results.
- [15:42] Ash Qin: llGetDisplayName returns "" for me when an agent is no longer a agent of any kind on the region. The problem I have is the random returning of ???
- [15:42] Serenity Rosencrans: There seem to be two issues to me
- [15:42] Serenity Rosencrans: llGetDisplayName() returns "" ever few minutes regularly
- [15:43] Maestro Linden: ..even when the target avatar is in the same region, right Serenity?
- [15:43] Serenity Rosencrans: and other times llGetDisplayName() returns "???" and it does not go away
- [15:43] Serenity Rosencrans: yes
- [15:43] Serenity Rosencrans: in the same region
- [15:43] ac14 Hutson: \i have used llGetDisplayName since they released it on a hud radar, but i have never seen it return ???
- [15:43] Kadah Coba: LL should use XMPP for p2p IMs and friends list too so we can use any XMPP client to do chat on SL with out needing a viewer :3
- [15:44] Ash Qin: What
- [15:44] Ash Qin: Just enable federation and let over XMPP messages to SL, you don't need to do random client support
- [15:44] Flip Idlemind: llGetDisplayName() will sometimes return "???" for a long time. Yes, even if the target is right in front of you
- [15:44] Oskar Linden: who all got that mail I sent out before Christmas about the new Havok changes?
- [15:44] Ash Qin: That only segregates intergration with the rest of the web when you do that.
- [15:44] Jessica Lyon: Havok changes? o.0
- [15:45] Faust VollmarFaust: Vollmar never got it
- [15:45] Oskar Linden: *facepalms*
- [15:45] TankMaster Finesmith: havoc 2k10
- [15:45] Lex Mars: I am not apparently subscribed to your newsletter.
- [15:45] Oskar Linden: jessica are you not on the server-beta email list?
- [15:45] Maestro Linden: SVC-6290 is the llGetDisplayName() bug. It's marked "fix pending" but I don't have details about the fix's ETA
- [15:45] JIRA-helper: http//jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6290:
- [#SVC-6290] llGetDisplayName periodically: returns a Null String
- [15:45] Jessica Lyon: apparently not
- [15:45] Oskar Linden: doh
- [15:45] Jessica Lyon: lol
- [15:45] Oskar Linden: everyone go sign up here: https://lists.secondlife.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/server-beta
- [15:45] Oskar Linden: that list is where it is at
- [15:46] Latif Khalifa: https://lists.secondlife.com/pipermail/server-beta/2010-December/000185.html
- [15:46] Ash QinAsh: Qin subscribes.
- [15:46] RedMokum Bravin: The mail with all the things NOT to do :-)
- [15:46] Oskar Linden: before the holidays I sent out a detailed email about the new Havok 2k10 changes
- [15:46] Serenity Rosencrans: Maestro: ok... I have updates to my scripts waiting on that fix.... so I was wondering when the fix might roll to aditi or agni
- [15:46] RedMokum Bravin: Yup
- [15:46] Oskar Linden: https://lists.secondlife.com/pipermail/server-beta/2010-December/000185.html
- [15:46] Latif Khalifa: notice all "please don't crash the server" lines ;)
- [15:46] Oskar Linden: the hope was for people to take physical objects out to certain mesh testing sandboxes to see if things broke
- [15:47] Oskar Linden: no one filed any bugs
- [15:47] Oskar Linden: so that means 1 of 3 things
- [15:47] Jessica Lyon: I can guess the reason >.>
- [15:47] Oskar Linden: 1. no one did anything.
- [15:47] Oskar Linden: 2. no one got the mail
- [15:47] Oskar Linden: 3. falcon coded the most perfect system evar
- [15:47] Oskar Linden: falcon is quite cocky right now
- [15:47] Lex Mars: 4) All of the above?
- [15:47] Faust VollmarFaust: Vollmar bets on 2
- [15:47] Oskar Linden: his ego did not need the boost
- [15:48] RedMokum Bravin: The mail was there alright.
- [15:48] Lex MarsLex: Mars grins.
- [15:48] Oskar Linden: there's gotta be a bug in there somewhere
- [15:48] Oskar Linden: or maybe everything is working as expected
- [15:48] Oskar Linden: that would be ossm
- [15:48] Oskar Linden: but bugless reelases worry the hell out of me
- [15:48] Gooden Uggla: Gotta admit, falcon was on a roll for a while there
- [15:48] Sigma Avro: well 2.5) :))
- [15:49] Oskar Linden: Falcon called and chatted with me for like an hour last night
- [15:49] TankMaster Finesmith: so no reports of "the system lags when i rez 4096 physical objects"?
- [15:49] Oskar Linden: laid his grand plan on me
- [15:49] Gooden Uggla: how's he doing/
- [15:49] Gooden Uggla: ?
- [15:49] Oskar Linden: his 3 year plan for SL
- [15:49] Oskar Linden: he is a driven man
- [15:50] Sigma Avro: he his difficult to join
- [15:50] Oskar Linden: but that is a conversation for another time
- [15:50] Gooden Uggla: yes
- [15:50] Oskar Linden: preferably over drinks
- [15:50] Kratalchen Toxx: another thing...
- [15:50] ac14 Hutson: hope it has some kind of boucny dampened link thing
- [15:50] Gooden Uggla: and yes please
- [15:50] Oskar Linden: at goodens beach house
- [15:50] Gooden Uggla: surre
- [15:50] Gooden Uggla: it'll be fixed in 2 weeks
- [15:50] Latif KhalifaLatif: Khalifa murmors something about falcon and the need for adult supervision
- [15:51] Kratalchen Toxx: is it possible to you to release viewers for linux as *.deb packages?
- [15:51] Oskar Linden: ?
- [15:51] Kratalchen Toxx: that would be very helpful
- [15:51] Oskar Linden: falcon does need adult supervision
- [15:51] Oskar Linden: I guess that would be me?
- [15:51] Oskar Linden: or Don
- [15:51] Ash Qin: I wrote a script a while back that automatically extracted the second lfie viewer and packaged it
- [15:52] Kratalchen Toxx: for linux?
- [15:52] Ash Qin: It was built for ubuntu hardy
- [15:52] Oskar Linden: there you go :-)
- [15:52] Ash Qin: But I have a feeling it would work fine for any other debianized linux
- [15:52] Jonathan Yap: Autobuild has just been made public, so maybe that will be an easier change
- [15:52] Latif Khalifa: somone who understand what SL is that can explain to him that stuff like changing prim counts of an object depending on its size is a very bad idea, despite the technical reasons one might cite for such a policy
- [15:52] Kratalchen Toxx: DEBs have the big advantages that they ruun on all debian based linuxes...
- [15:53] Ash Qin: rpms run on all the mainstream distros except gentoo out of the box
- [15:53] Oskar Linden: so take a look at the Havok stuff if you don't mind
- [15:53] Oskar Linden: send that mail around
- [15:53] Kratalchen Toxx: rpms are good, too...
- [15:53] Oskar Linden: get some people out there and find some bugs
- [15:53] Ash Qin: This is due to the LSB compliance. So, honestly, RPM packaging would probably better for maximum compatability in my opinion.
- [15:53] Oskar Linden: put Falcon in his place
- [15:53] Kratalchen Toxx: but older technique
- [15:54] Oskar Linden: maestro. what's in the pipeline for upcoming projects?
- [15:54] Oskar Linden: that we can talk about
- [15:54] Kratalchen Toxx: rpm would be okay
- [15:54] Oskar Linden: talk to the vwr guys about linux packaging
- [15:54] Kratalchen Toxx: ya
- [15:54] Jonathan Yap: Speak to Oz
- [15:54] Maestro Linden: ok, so right now we have a bugfix server on aditi
- [15:55] Sigma Avro: ?
- [15:55] Maestro Linden: fixing some interest list bugs that make certain objects disappear prematurely
- [15:55] Maestro Linden: the bugs addressed are SVC-6542 and SVC-6552
- [15:55] JIRA-helper: http//jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6552:
- [#SVC-6552] Objects that: generate particles no longer display particles above 20m high
- [15:55] JIRA-helper: http//jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6542:
- [#SVC-6542] Objects derendering: at close ranges since deployment of Second Life Server 10.11.09.214391
- [15:55] Oskar Linden: right right the fireworks bug
- [15:56] Oskar Linden: so fireworks should work right on ahern now
- [15:56] Maestro Linden: So far it's looking good, but testing is still in progress..
- [15:56] Oskar Linden: Aleen Parks said he'd get out here later to give it a go
- [15:56] Gooden Uggla: awesome
- [15:56] Maestro Linden: the bugfixes are on the 'simon_ilist' channel (like this sim) presently
- [15:56] Gooden Uggla: BTW if you've never been to allen parks' store, go now
- [15:57] Gooden Uggla: dude is a genius
- [15:57] Gooden Uggla: not joking
- [15:57] Sigma Avro: I like his works
- [15:57] Flip Idlemind: Aha, and the mystery of that "ilist" means is solved
- [15:57] Maestro Linden: : )
- [15:57] Oskar Linden: we have 3 minutes for any other business
- [15:57] Jonathan Yap: Is anyone working on estate windlight?
- [15:58] Oskar Linden: I do not know the status of estate side windlight
- [15:58] Gooden Uggla: notices to email?
- [15:58] Oskar Linden: we gotta get that working though
- [15:58] Sigma Avro: Phoenix does, lol
- [15:58] Jessica Lyon: >.>
- [15:58] Maestro Linden: estate windlight is supported in the server (and has been for several months), but I think we're waiting on viweer support
- [15:58] Jessica Lyon: well, ours isn't estate side
- [15:58] Jessica Lyon: I expect (Hope) LL will do a better job
- [15:59] Kadah Coba: And get it out within 2 years
- [15:59] Oskar Linden: I wonder if we can get it out in a sim console tweak
- [15:59] RedMokum Bravin: I see Amaretto horses flying right through my house all day. Will that go away in a future server release?
- [15:59] Gooden Uggla: i put names on notices to email on the agenda
- [15:59] Oskar Linden: you sue phoenix redmokum?
- [15:59] TankMaster Finesmith: hopefully they will do parcel level and allow different settings at different heights like phoenix does
- [15:59] Gooden Uggla: is there any change coming?>
- [15:59] Flip Idlemind: "Compression" is impressive, but what's the status on "threaded rez"?
- [15:59] Jessica Lyon: LOL
- [15:59] RedMokum Bravin: Does Phoenix suck up objects from the next sim?
- [16:00] Kadah Coba: LL's server WL is going to be region level only for private estates only
- [16:00] Jessica Lyon: Red has a good point though.. there's a very annoying server bug that eats your prims and /or changes the permissions on them at random
- [16:00] Latif Khalifa: i have not seen any "sim freeze" improvements when avatar arrive with "threaded rez"
- [16:00] RedMokum Bravin: I have 15 viewers installed by the way.
- [16:00] Gooden Uggla: WAITING ALMOST A YEAR ON NAMES ON NOTICES TO EMAIL
- [16:00] Lex Mars: I wouldn't mind seeing LSL script command support for poking windlight settings.
- [16:00] Kadah Coba: But, supposedly, support a full custom day cycle, or so I've heard
- [16:01] Jonathan Yap: ha, I have about 25 viewers installed :P
- [16:01] Oskar Linden: doesn't look like it has any traction internally gooden. let me poke on that
- [16:01] Kratalchen Toxx: I do everyting with the mesh viewer :)
- [16:01] Maestro Linden: threaded rez had to be disabled due to a bug, which is being worked on
- [16:01] Kratalchen Toxx: I luv the new shaddows :)
- [16:01] RedMokum Bravin: Jonathan: so you also know that bug doesn't appear when using Phoenix only.
- [16:01] ac14 Hutson: waiting on the veiwer x_O
- [16:01] Gooden Uggla: thanks oskar, everyone with large groups thanks you
- [16:01] Sigma Avro: cant' afford shadows with any viewer in a reasonnable manner
- [16:02] Jessica Lyon: Shadows are quite good on 2.4
- [16:02] Lex Mars: I'm happy just using deferred lighting without shadows.
- [16:02] Kratalchen Toxx: probably it's ya gcard...
- [16:02] Oskar Linden: well we are at the hour now
- [16:02] Lex Mars: Having projectors and oodles of lights makes me happy.
- [16:02] Sigma Avro: on Phoenix and Kirtens also, but it divides by 2 the fps
- [16:02] Lex Mars: With virtually no FPS hit.
- [16:02] Jessica Lyon: I had two accounts logged in, full ultra, wish shadows on everything. 10fps average.
- [16:02] Ash Qin: You should take a look at some Lex's pictures, they're pretty awesome.
- [16:02] Kratalchen Toxx: yes but 2.5 shaddows have improved
- [16:02] Jessica Lyon: and I don't have a great computer
- [16:02] Jessica Lyon: oh have they? even more!
- [16:03] Lex Mars: Not to mention the delicious bumpmapping and shine improvments when that's on.
- [16:03] Lex Mars: I only run the most current snowstorm.
- [16:03] Kratalchen Toxx: where can I see them?
- [16:03] Oskar Linden: thanks for coming everyone
- [16:03] Jessica Lyon: nice. Need LL to buy all it's users epic computers next
- [16:03] Gooden Uggla: thanks Oskar, have a good one
- [16:03] Kadah Coba: Seeya Oskar! Thanks
- [16:03] Sigma Avro: well, thanks for this great compression !
- [16:03] Lex Mars: Thanks for everything you're doing!
- [16:03] Oskar Linden: thank Tiggs if you see him
- [16:03] Kratalchen Toxx: agree with Jessica xD
- [16:03] Jessica Lyon: Thanks Oskar and everyone
- [16:04] Kratalchen Toxx: yes :)
- [16:04] Rex Cronon: tc everybody
- [16:04] Kratalchen Toxx: thanks :)
- [16:04] ac14 Hutson: bye
- [16:04] Kratalchen Toxx: •*•.. Bye Bye ..•*`•
