Introduction

Page under construction (merging in progress) Changing your avatar's appearance is really easy. Avatar's appearance is composed of Body parts and attachments. Body parts are utterly included in your avatar mesh (shape, skin, eye and hair) and can't be removed (but you can replace them with new ones - watch this tutorial about this subject). Attachments are prims based and can, for example, be rezzed on the ground.

You can easily identify body parts & attachments in your inventory with icons:

  • Inv item shape.png Body shape: It defines the body shape of your avatar (height, musculature, sex, etc)
  • Inv item eyes.png Eye: It defines colours and iris of your eyes
  • Inv item skin.png Skin : it defines the textures to apply on your body shape (skin tone, facial, etc).
  • Inv item hair.png Hair: this item defines hair, eyebrows and facial hair. This body part mustn't be confused with "prim-hairs" which are attachments. A lot of Residents use bald hairs and prefer wearing "prim-hair" attachments. (You can watch this Torley's video tutorial about differences between hairs and prim-hairs)
  • Inv item object.png Attachments: they are not necessary Bodyparts. They have been created with prims. For example "prim-hairs" are attachments. They are often used to replace parts of normal body or to improve your outfit (skirts, belt, etc.).

How to save my shape ? my outfit ?

It's possible to save your current outfit (clothes/shape/skin/attachment) into a specific folder of your inventory.

  • Wear the outfit you want to save.
  • Go in the Appearance window.
  • Click the "Make Outfit" button.
  • Enter the name of your outfit in the "Folder Name" box.
  • Select items you want to save in your outfit(body parts + attachments)
  • You can use the "Rename Clothing to Folder Name" in order to change objects name. (All your items will have a new name with the format "Folder Name Shirt", etc. )
  • Click "Save" & exit the appearance editor.

Your new outfit folder will be in the "Clothing" folder of your inventory.

Note : "No copy" items will be moved in the new folder.

How to modify my shape ?

Pre made shapes, skins, eyes and hairs can be found in SL. You can find them in your inventory owing to their icons. You can also edit them to make them more special (beware, you must have the right to modify your shape in order to use the following tutorial) Besides before modifying your shape always save a version of yourself before wearing a new shape or modifying the one you're wearing)

  1. Right-click on yourself. Select Appearance.
  2. Sometimes, There may be a short delay. before the sliders work.
  3. If necessary, use the camera controls to turn your avatar to face you
  4. Click the Shape tab to edit your body shape.
  5. Click the Body button. Now try moving the Height and Thickness sliders. Neat, huh?
  6. Click the Nose button and try moving the Nose Size and Nose Thickness sliders. How about that!
  7. Try some of the other buttons and sliders. Click Randomize for a whole new look!
  8. If you don't like what you got, click Revert to go back to your original look.
  9. If you like what you see, click Save As and choose a name for your new shape.
  10. In the 'edit appearance interface', you will find the name of the skin you are editing.

Remember that you can change your appearance anytime, as often as you want, for free -- so don't worry if everything isn't perfect. Move on any time you're ready.
