There is a new gadget on the market, the Space Navigator from http://www.3dconnexion.de/products/3a1d.php (a Logitech Company).

Is anyone working to implement it in Second Life? A developer kit schould be avaialbe for free.

Because the Client is open source now, one could do it himselve. If you got the time...

There seems to be a solution for Mac: http://www.orderedbytes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1659&sid=2be21da3a813682555d2a6b3b4f843d7

And there is a hint in the SL-Forum: http://forums.secondlife.com/showthread.php?t=193573&highlight=space%20navigator

That leads to the 3dconnexion forum. They are working on it, but not high priority. And there is an universal driver, also usefull in Second Life: http://www.3dconnexion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1153

This seems to be the actual download: http://rs43.rapidshare.com/files/15928491/RBC9-SpaceNav_Driver_Only.rar

Driver settings

Tenebrous Pau has had much success with the SpaceNavigator in conjunction with the RBC9 driver (which makes the SpaceNavigator appear to Windows like a Game Controller) - he has blogged the settings which worked for him: http://teneverse.blogspot.com/2007/07/blog-post.html

He made a test video: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gfUAyGR5nNs

Additionally there is a forum post on the 3dconnexion forum which pretty much says the same: http://www.3dconnexion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538
