Community Translation User Group
Revision as of 10:06, 14 April 2011 by Noelle Linden (talk | contribs)
The community translation user group exists to discuss and facilitate translation of information resources such as:
- Second Life Knowledge Base
- Wiki
- Other relevant information
NOTE: Next meeting is Thurs, April 14.
Schedule
Every other Thursday at 12pm PT at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Localization%20Central/205/50/31
Also see the calendar of public user group meetings.
Agenda
Agenda for the next user group meeting is: Noelle on April 14th:
- CT group in Second Life: the CT group was created a long time ago, and many residents who are in it are no longer contributing to the localization effort. In the next 2 weeks or so, I will ask all of you who still want to be active to send me a notecard with the language you are translating into, and I will keep you in the group. The residents who do not respond within 2 weeks will no longer belong to the group.
- Translation of KB articles in Lithium: new Spanish and German articles were published. Let's discuss current challenges, and how to solve those.
- Resuming localization into Japanese: we will soon resume localization into Japanese, and it would be great to get our Japanese volunteers involved again.
- These suggestions are not just for the meeting immediately following, everything depends on the time available. - The order that appears here is only for organization of this wiki page, but the meeting can change the order of the threads. - All the Residents can add suggestions to the Agenda.
About the meetings
- Is it possible to know in advance the date of the next meeting? I'm writing this on April 14, and this page says that the next meeting is April 7.
- Volunteer(s) to take and post minutes of this meeting?
- Should Localization Central be public access during user group meetings?
- I would have participated, if it was public. I'd like to contribute. --oobscure 12:24, 7 April 2011 (PDT)
About the Knowledge Base
- If we have a translation of a KB article NOT suggested in the KB TRanslation Project, where should we post that translation: wiki page, KB article...?
- Any news about the problem with "Contents" writing an article in the KB? More info in this thread of the private forum.
- Answer to this question about localized labels asked in the private forum?
- While we expect Lithium solves the problem, what can we do to show links in the English article to translated articles (and vice versa)?
NOTE: For further information about the translation of the KB, see Community Platform KB Translation Project.
About the Viewer
- In my opinion (Irene Muni) it's very important translate the new strings of the Viewer BEFORE that Viewer is being launched in Beta. It can not be hard to find a working method to translate the new strings in Snowglobe or similar. And IT IS EASIER translate the new strings if LL says us what are that new strings and we don't need to wait the launch of the viewer and then open JIRAs for the translation.
About specific languages
All languages
- I just would like to mention why we keep asking about the translation of the terms of service (no need to discuss).
- German (and I believe most of european) trade law requires companies doing business with germans (most europeans) to either NOT have a localized website or if the website is localized to have available the terms of service in the languages provided by the company's website. If any company infringes trade law the terms of service are null and void. With that in mind and knowing which fines companies had to pay for infringement of european law I really think it makes sense to keep asking about a translation before Linden Lab is being sued and bankrupt as the result. Spanish
- To date there have been four versions of the Viewer with Basic mode, but none of those versions have translated something as essential as the instructions. It is not logical, it's a no sense if LL want retain new users. (This and other other issues can be seen in this JIRA, created... on 19 March.
- Any news about the "deferred" from October 2010 JIRA requesting translate the Marketplace into Spanish?
