Concept Behind the Mental Mentors Group Page

It is hoped that this will be the place where the Mental Members visit to find SL related information that they can use in their individual Mentoring capacities.

Wiki is a great research and information resource if you have the time to use it. I have found that time is not always on your side when Mentoring.

Mental Mentors History

Mental Mentors is a group created by Mentors for Mentors.

Mentals is the brain child of JayJay Talamasca, Kai Sachertorte and a group of Mentors who worked together on what was then one of only two Help Islands.

In truth the group came about largely due to our frustration at the limitations placed on the main mentor IM channel due to its size and the necessity of its strict guidelines.

So Mentals was born, They decided they needed a channel of their own where they could ask questions offer help and generally talk about whatever.. and spam, to vent, joke and share ideas and problems above and beyond mentor issues.

Within months they had grown to have over 200 members, now it is closer to 700 and still growing with the influx of newly trained volunteers.

New Co-owner added to MM

On Friday 4th Janaury 2008, Rails Bailey was made a co-owner of the Mental Mentors Group, reason being, Jayjay could no longer give the group his total commitment due to Real Life commitments.

A formal charter for Mental Mentors was introduced and the number of the officer stream was reduced from 71 to approximately 25.

Some tweaking took place during the course of the reorganisation of the group.

Noticeable changes were made to the group, such as : Retired Mentors will be allowed to stay in Mental Mentors, as a form of recognition for their invaluable help to the SL community at large, and as a extensive knowledge base for the mentals group.

Additional Co-owner added to MM

On the 10th January 2008, an additional co-owner was added to the Management Team.

Doctor Gascoigne became the third co-owner. This was deemed necessary for many reasons, such as:

  • Coverage of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
  • Unavoidable SL abscence through RL issues.
  • System glitches that may prevent an owner from logging in to SL

About Second Life User Groups

User groups are product or community focused and each one is led by the product manager or community manager. Our goals are to make it easier for you to find the user group, or groups, that you want to participate in and for us to listen more closely to your needs and ideas. The user group program is about opening up more lines of communication. Most user groups are public and include inworld meetings, JIRA sections, and sometimes a Twitter feed, an SL Forum, or an SL email list. It's up to the user group lead and the core Resident team how they want to communicate with one another. The discussions will be open, direct, and focus more on your needs, new features, and be more forward-looking.

All Residents who join user groups must comply with the new Community Participation Guidelines, in addition to our Terms of Service. These guidelines ensure that all conversations are constructive, courteous, respectful, and in the spirit of collaboration.

Public User Group Meetings

For information on dates and times of user group meetings, see the user groups meeting schedule. And, each User Group has an individual page where agendas and archives reside. The program is still getting up to speed, so give each User Group leader time to fill in their content. Check back often!

All times listed are Pacific Time.
