Torley Linden: Friendly greetings!
Torley Linden: Thanks for taking note of my new Office Hours times too!
norritt Xi: Hello Torley =)
Razrcut Brooks: :)
Torley Linden: So much change is going on, it's been craaaaazy! Usually in a good way. :)
Itico Spectre grins.
Torley Linden: Hi Itico, Razrcut, Jurin, Sai, Harleen, norritt, all! What's new and exciting?
Harleen Gretzky: Hi Torley :)
Itico Spectre: Good afternoon.
Saijanai Kuhn: watching anime series called "One Piece," trying to get a techn writer job, son moving out, no much
Torley Linden: Ahh I've heard of "One Piece", haven't seen it yet.
Itico Spectre: Nothing new here, just writing and learning to script.
Torley Linden: That still counts! Growth!
Torley Linden: What are you writing?
Saijanai Kuhn: its a sleepr. It creeps up on you. Totoally goofy set of characters and yet its a sophosticated adult series
norritt Xi: *gg* I know it got my hands on some of the episodes the english translation is a catastrophe but its a funny series
Itico Spectre: I think it's pretty bad. But, anyhoo. :)
Saijanai Kuhn: well, the English version is as though someone took Monk and turned it into Scooby Doo
Itico Spectre: Why Torley, I'm just playing at a news reporter lately. Something new for me.
Torley Linden: I like how awkward some anime seems at first but it develops into really elaborate arcs.
You decline Samara Studios Fashcon 2-27-08 from A group member named Samara Kasshiki.
Torley Linden: Ahh Itico, where are you reporting for? Anything up on a blog/paper yet?
Saijanai Kuhn: did you ever check out Kikaru No GO, Torley?
Saijanai Kuhn: Hikaru* no GO
Itico Spectre points at www.slnn.com
Torley Linden: Yes!
Torley Linden: Ooh cool Itico, *checks it out*
Torley Linden: Hikaru No Go is somewhat of a pun I think... or at least, the singer Utada Hikaru used it in such a way during a previous concert tour.
Torley Linden: I didn't previously know that Dizzy Banjo wrote for SLNN too...
Saijanai Kuhn: huh. It might be. there are so many potential puns in japanese its scary. Too few official sounds and too many words that use them
Jurin Juran: wow, neither did i
Itico Spectre: Voluntarily, I believe. I'm relatively new. I haven't met everyone.
Torley Linden: *is reading http://www.slnn.com/index.php?SCREEN=article&about=havok-4-intro by Itico*
Itico Spectre grins.
Itico Spectre: That'll put you to sleep.
Torley Linden: Physics are so much fun... have any of you seen the game, Crayon Physics? I wanna play that!
Torley Linden: Haha nice to know Dan is still out there challengin' people to crash Crash Me.
Torley Linden: http://www.kloonigames.com/crayon/ looks so much fun.
Itico Spectre: I think that most of the crashme's are down now. Just one left.
Torley Linden: I wonder what new sorts of physics contraptions will be created that may've been too intensive to do before.
Itico Spectre: I'm working on an intro idea for all the different viewers there are.
norritt Xi: Well speaking of crashing sims, though there is temporarily problems now and then I have encountered seriously odd issues with the grid during the last couple of days
Torley Linden: Oh yeah, Itico? What do you mean by "intro idea"? Like to explain the difference?
Itico Spectre: Well, I've been working on a hoverboard game for a while. Might take me a while longer if I have to program it all myself. ;)
Torley Linden: norritt, hmmm what kind of oddness?
Itico Spectre: Yes, Torley.
Squirrel Wood: /ao off
Torley Linden: Itico, I'd surely welcome that! I know there's been confusion recently between Dazzle and WindLight and when Dazzle will *have* WindLight in it.
Torley Linden: Hi Squirrel!
Itico Spectre: Why one might wish to run more then any other.
Squirrel Wood: Hello
Torley Linden: Aye, Itico, if you write that, let me know and I'll show it to our Release Team.
Itico Spectre nods.
Torley Linden: I reckon they'd really appreciate it!
Squirrel Wood: Watermeloney greetings ^^
Itico Spectre: Thanks, I will then.
norritt Xi: Okay I TPed away from Brapton after the last WL office hour, i came out in the middle of nowhere but wasnt logged off, take a look at this screenshot especially the About Land dialog: http://norritt.bytefortress.de/sl/odd_grid_tp_behaviour.jpg
Torley Linden: *checks*
norritt Xi: The Region "Insula Inferi West" is private estate not mainland
Torley Linden: Hmmm that is strange.
Torley Linden: Were you able to fly around, or stuck in place, norritt?
norritt Xi: The date is odd to could be related to 0 unix time time
norritt Xi: Yes
norritt Xi: I even could TP away from there
Torley Linden: Oh, well that date normally appears when you have a region without a covenant/hasn't changed it.
Torley Linden: I know it's confusing and I reported it as a bug long ago...
Squirrel Wood: Did people not notice your new shedule Torley? ^^
Itico Spectre: Are there usually more people here? :)
Torley Linden: Squirrel, well you did! Over time I hope they will... anywhere else I should be announcing this?
Torley Linden: Itico, usually a couple dozen but it's fine!
You decline Poof Mania Gift and Demos for FashCon from A group member named Jess Riederer.
Squirrel Wood: big texture here?
Torley Linden: Squirrel, yeah, the sign I have in the front...
norritt Xi: Well Insula inferi has a coventant also funny but not visible on that picture anymore was the Region name on the upper part of the scrren it Showed "Insula Inferi West x, y, z - Brampton Stage"
Torley Linden: norritt, yeah, that sounds weirdly borked. Did you try to make the problem happen again?
Torley Linden: Harleen, what do you <3 about Delaware? =)
Itico Spectre: Well, I could probably slip it into an article. Hah. I know I at least get a few readers. ;)
norritt Xi: I usually get logged of while TP errors
Torley Linden: Hehe Itico, and any mentions of video tutorials or suggestions for them ARE highly appreciated.
Torley Linden: Yup norritt, I despise those. SVC-972, bad bug.
Torley Linden: That has happened to me fairly frequently as of late...
Harleen Gretzky: I live tehre, saw your last vidtut and so searched on Delaware and found a group for Delaware residents
Torley Linden: OHHH nice!
Torley Linden: That's a cool connection.
norritt Xi: Guess that was a kind of coincidence in this case, there are nasty packet loss spikes peak for mea was 27% sometimes, a friend had 15. Prolly the region data didn't arrive completely in the case displayed on the screenshot
Torley Linden: norritt, aye, how bizarre.
Itico Spectre: Actually, Torley, I went to school for CBT, computer based training, not video. So, I rather like them. I love the zoom-in/-out you use.
Squirrel's Fortune Cookie: Here's some wisdom for you:
Squirrel's Fortune Cookie: "Success is the one unpardonable sin against one's fellows." -- Ambrose Bierce
Torley Linden: Itico, cool. Thanks! And I started doing the zooms after noticing how blurry YouTube and other compressed videos got, and I wanted to highlight/focus those parts of the screen.
Itico Spectre points at the cheeseheads group, "For Wisconsinites." ;)
Torley Linden: Haha when I think of cheeseheads, I literally think of those hats... with foam cheese..
Torley Linden: they crack me up. :)
Itico Spectre: That was an excellent move.
Torley Linden: http://www.itsunfortunate.com/ <— related to fortune cookies!
Squirrel Wood: another little detail on mouselook you did not mention ^^
Itico Spectre: Yes, real cheeseheads sell those to tourists.
Squirrel Wood: m turns it on, m again turns it off ^^
Torley Linden: Squirrel, ah you're right, you know, I should've... that's easier to remember. :\
Squirrel Wood: and returns you to your last camera setting
Squirrel Wood: whereas esc resets the view
Razrcut Brooks: Torley I read that LL is looking into integrating a 3rd party source for residents to record inworld-to replace the current method.
Torley Linden: Razrcut, where'd you read that? And what do you mean by "record inwordl"?
Torley Linden: "record inworld"?
Squirrel Wood spies a fishy
EyeSeeYou Alter: Script run-time error
EyeSeeYou Alter: Math Error
Torley Linden: Hiya Winnie!
Squirrel Wood: Jason Swain sends his apologies for missing this hour but was unaware of the time change until just before the event, Have fun ^^
Torley Linden: Oooh... fugu.
Razrcut Brooks: One sec, Torley, I will find the link :)
Torley Linden: No worries, hi to Jason for me!
Winnie Linden is just a fish on the wall, don't mind me.
Torley Linden: I always appreciate having sources!
Torley Linden: Hehehe.
Jurin Juran: hello, winnie :)
Winnie Linden waves a fin or two.
Itico Spectre: Don't take anything without a source. You might get sued otherwise. Oh, wait, I'm being a reporter. Nevermind. ;)
Torley Linden: Hahaha.
Torley Linden: Credibility! I'm not uptight about citing sources, but it's usually helpful to know where something came from.
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/19394
Itico Spectre: Reporters are paranoid.
Squirrel Wood: When you read through the blog comments you wonder whether people actually bother to inform themselves about stuff before they rant and rave about how bad this is and how stupid that is and how LL can't get their act together anyway...
Torley Linden: Squirrel, that's an awesome bow on your leg.
Squirrel Wood: heh
Razrcut Brooks: :) What I meant was a 3rd party software integrated into SL...I read that here, at the top of the page https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Movie_Recording
Torley Linden: Squirrel, alas, I'd be more shocked about "post before you read" re: blog comments if it wasn't so predictable.
norritt Xi: Well lotta stuf in the comments is just superstition...
Squirrel Wood: Lady Tuberose by Bare Rose
Harleen Gretzky: They asked for diferent options for recording inworld on SLDev, Soft Linden was putting them altogether
norritt Xi: People tend to forget about the positive aspects of SL
Torley Linden: Oh Razrcut, I was the one who made that change. And to clarify, we're not officially looking to integrate a better movie recorder, but are open to open source contributors who want to try something along those lines.
Itico Spectre: Hey, if I complained about all the troubles I've had with SL, and I've been here for about 3 years, no one would like me. ;)
Razrcut Brooks: OHHH Thanks!
Torley Linden: =)
Razrcut Brooks: I understand now :)
Torley Linden: I've had a lot of troubles too and a lot of joy... like First Life, but amplified.
norritt Xi: Its human to tend to take things for granted until you have to live without them one time
Torley Linden: You're welcome Razrcut!
Torley Linden: Yes norritt, so true.
Itico Spectre: I've had a lot better luck in SL. Hah.
Torley Linden: People are generally more afraid of losing something than gaining something... but it's easy to forget what you have too.
Squirrel Wood: ranting and raving about how bad something is provides no help at all. Constructive criticism however, does.
Torley Linden: Yup Squirrel, it's hard to remember that when someone's emotions are inflamed tho.
Squirrel Wood: Aye
Squirrel's Fortune Carrot: Here's some wisdom for you:
Squirrel's Fortune Carrot: "Please, don't remember me like this. I'll give you $10 to forget tonight. I don't have the money now, but as soon as I get my paycheck I'll give you the money." -- Allison, who rarely drinks, the first time I saw her drunk.
Itico Spectre: People like to complain, especially when they can blame someone else. It's easier to remain uneducated and blame THEM then admit they don't know something.
Torley Linden: But I imagine, if we could take that negative energy and convert it into a fuel source, that'd be productive. =)
norritt Xi: Speaking of positive stuff I recognized during the last days that SL is some kind of defensline for virtual privacy...
Torley Linden: Itico, yeah, it's like the arguments of "It's not fair!" when someone has an opportunity to go forth and make change in the world, but they choose *not* to expend that effort.
Torley Linden: Oh yeah norritt? How so?
Torley Linden: I remember the ludicrous fears that sculpted prims were going to destroy the economy.
Squirrel Wood: economy my furrc behind :p Nothing changed at all
norritt Xi: See dunno how laws and stuff in the US is, here in europe governments start to watch internet connections. They not actually monitor what was send but they log who was connected to whom. So they monitor your social contacts. all providers are bound by law to keep that data for 6 months
Squirrel Wood: furry even :p
Torley Linden: Some people were like, "I can't make sculpties, hence, my furniture store will go... out of business!"
Itico Spectre: But, Torley, every time something new is introduced, the Lindens have to fix a hundred new broken things. :)
Itico Spectre: Surely you can see the fear. :)
Jurin Juran: i love all the new things LL is doing
Torley Linden: Itico, haha, I think one of the biggest challenges has to do with creative use of content in ways that Lindens didn't anticipate...
norritt Xi: If you communicate over SL they cant monitor. Since they'll just see a connection was built up to LL but not actually with which people I was speaking/interacting online
Squirrel Wood: The world is everchanging. People fear that change which they have no control over.
Itico Spectre: Just before sculpties came out, a builder IMed me...
Saijanai Kuhn: What is exciting for me is the behind-the-scenes stuff that, hopefully, you NEVER see directly
Torley Linden: Hmm that's interesting norritt, but wouldn't that be true of standard instant messaging programs too?
Torley Linden: Sai, what kinda behind-the-scenes stuff?
Itico Spectre: She asked me if she had to learn to sculpty to stay in business.
Itico Spectre: I said, 'No, they will not overtake as a major structural element.'
Itico Spectre: So far, I have been right.
Saijanai Kuhn: Zha Ewry has been chatting with the legal counsel for the Softwre Freedom people to see if he would head up a privacy Viewpoint Advocacy Group for Second Life
Squirrel Wood: Sculpties are nice but they are limited as they only have one single texture face
Torley Linden: Hmmm I seem to have noticed something odd, I can't send postcards from my office when I'm zoomed in close on us, but I can when I'm zoomed far out. Weird. This has been happening for over two weeks that I've noticed.
Itico Spectre: Oh, I know, I make my ow.
Torley Linden: Squirrel, yeah, that can be kind of tricky, especially when there are sculpties that LOOK like rounded cubes...
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/19395
Torley Linden: Has anyone else been having problems sending postcards from nearby?
Torley Linden: Hey EdTek!
Torley Linden: Hi Arawn!
Squirrel Wood: hmm.. I never send postcards
norritt Xi: Well they have to monitor incoming and outgoing connections depneds on the service though but if you were using skype for instance the caommunication could be traced especially when you look at the time single users connected disconnected. But SL is more like a giant conference its hard to make out special connections for the outside
Torley Linden: Welcome to my office hour. :)
Torley Linden: Hmm I'd be interested in reading more about that, norritt. This is news to me!
EdTek Xeno: Hey Torley, how are you today?
Torley Linden: Doing great EdTek, and yourself?
Saijanai Kuhn: http://www.fsdaily.com/Philosophy/A_Conversation_with_Eben_Moglen_on_Second_Life
Squirrel Wood: OMy!
seanas Anatra: what is this?!?!
Squirrel Wood: 6 new blog posts within an hour?
EdTek Xeno: Wonderful -- glad to come join you finally for one of your meetings
Drinking Halfpint: woh
Torley Linden: Hiya seanas, you're at my Office Hour! Welcome aboard!
Torley Linden: :D
Drinking Halfpint: whats goin on here then
Saijanai Kuhn: Torley, the push for revising all the protocols on how the viewer and servers communicate. The redesign of the servers to make them more scalable
Torley Linden: Hey Drinking, my Office Hour! More info about me here: http://torley.com/info
Saijanai Kuhn: the push to have OpenSIm and SL talk to each other seemlessly
norritt Xi: I can try to provide more detailed stuff on that issue Torley, dunno of any english sources right now
Saijanai Kuhn: seamlessly*
Torley Linden: *reads*
Torley Linden: They look like they're really comfy in those chairs having a deep discussion. :)
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
EdTek Xeno: afk
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/19396
Torley Linden: Glad you could make it, EdTek!
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Razrcut Brooks: Torley,i just sent a postcard to ,from a close view and I think it works for me. Is it not letting you take the pic or send?
Itico Spectre: Okay, I'm not happy. heh.
Torley Linden: Razrcut, it works, but then... several moments lately, I get a server error.
seanas Anatra: what a peaceful place
Torley Linden: Thanks seanas. :)
Razrcut Brooks: hm
Torley Linden: What's also odd is "Your Email" appears blank for several moments before it auto-fills in.
Torley Linden: What's a bit weird to me is the problem doesn't appear to be region-wide...
Razrcut Brooks: thats is odd for sure.
Torley Linden: in the past when I've had postcard send problems, it affected whole regions, or all of Second Life in general.
Squirrel Wood: No (waiting)s or (hippo)s ?
Torley Linden: Nope. :)
Squirrel Wood: wb
Torley Linden: seanas, it looks like you have Lego shoes. :)
Torley Linden: Pretty nifty.
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/19397
Squirrel Wood wants the alt 'Acorn Tester' :p
seanas Anatra: lol
Itico Spectre: Okay, what'd I miss?
Razrcut Brooks: Itico, did you lose your chair?
seanas Anatra: it was part of an avatar
Itico Spectre: I lost my connection.
Torley Linden: Glad you could make it back!
seanas Anatra: i hate when you connection messes up
seanas Anatra: mine*
Itico Spectre: It's funny how only one viewer instance crashes at a time.
Saijanai Kuhn: more precise URL if you missed it: http://www.ugotrade.com/2007/12/21/a-conversation-with-eben-moglen-on-second-life/
seanas Anatra: ive noticed many people try to hack my account in some areas
seanas Anatra: they somehow make my teleportion not work and stuff
Torley Linden: Hey Aimee!
Aimee Trescothick: hey :)
Aimee Trescothick: Still rezzercising lol
Arawn Spitteler: How could you tell?
Torley Linden: Hmmm seanas, are you sure they're doing that? Sometimes people just say that to annoy and/or intimidate you.
Squirrel Wood: ^^
Torley Linden: OMG coins... !
Torley Linden: That was crazy.
Squirrel Wood: 5 dollar gold coins
Torley Linden: Haha, "rezzercising", I like that term!
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/19398
Aimee Trescothick: :)
Aimee Trescothick: makes it sound more like I'm doing something useful while I wait :D
seanas Anatra: if you didnt know i started using sl about 3 days ago, and still have alot to learn
norritt Xi: Found some backgroundinfo on the connection monitoring issue - headline is still german but the text is the english version: http://www.vorratsdatenspeicherung.de/content/view/46/1/lang,en/
Squirrel Wood: ^^
Torley Linden: Whoa, I disoriented myself. @_@
Torley Linden: Welcome to Second Life, seanas! And that's fine, give yourself lots of time to learn, discover, and enjoy at your own pace.
Itico Spectre: Your whole place disorients me Torley. ;)
Arawn Spitteler thought Torley was Miss Oriented, rather than Dis-oriented
Squirrel Wood: hehe
Aimee Trescothick: heheh
seanas Anatra: its very colourful xD
Torley Linden: You've already got a custom avatar in two days so you're doing good there, seanas.
Torley Linden: HAHAHA.
norritt Xi: Itico: Its the colors XD
Torley Linden: Yeah, these happen to be my favorite colors. :D
seanas Anatra: yep and ive made some friends
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: Oh great, which places have you explored and already liked, seanas?
Squirrel Wood: OMy! Another nose that needs to be squirrelproofed :p
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/19399
seanas Anatra: many recreation areas and nightlife communities
Torley Linden: :)
EdTek Xeno: Hey Torley -- are you using windlight predominantly these days?
Squirrel Wood: there seems to be an abundance of those ^^
Jurin Juran: has anyone noticed this competition going on? its exciting to see a RL connection everytime: http://www.arcspace.com/sl/26-02-2008/eco.html
Torley Linden: EdTek, for the most part, yes, but I'm also using the Dazzle viewer as I'm helping with community communication on that.
You decline TOCO Designs: New releases from A group member named Timmy Rinkitink.
EdTek Xeno: I'm really enjoying the views with tit
EdTek Xeno: oops
Second Life: You have left the group 'Fashion Consolidated'.
EdTek Xeno: with "it"
Aimee Trescothick: LMAO
Squirrel Wood: <= windlight exclusive, wants dazzle on windlight ^^
Torley Linden: Thanks EdTek, glad you are, there's so many pretty skies to be had...
Torley Linden: haha don't worry about that typo.
Torley Linden: It'll happen relatively soon, Squirrel, WindLight has been merged into release branch, so a future Release Candidate not longer than a month away should have it.
Squirrel Wood: W00t
Itico Spectre: Sweet.
Torley Linden: As well as Dazzle (based on RC).
Jurin Juran: i like dazzle alot, but i still use windlight when i want to take pictures
EdTek Xeno: I recently found the onrez viewer and dazzle -- i really like the udpated interface direction that the new viewers are taking
norritt Xi: ^.^ Weeeeeee
Itico Spectre: Eh, Dazzle's fine.
Torley Linden: It'll be good to have both enhancements for the UI, and what you see inworld, in the same viewer.
Itico Spectre: So, Torley, like can I quote you on that? ;)
Torley Linden: Oh cool EdTek, yeah, it's been a very long time since the UI had drastic UI changes, so it's important that happens at last, especially to ease entry for many new Residents and make things more efficient and productive for experienced Resis.
norritt Xi: I just cant get used to dazlle somehow. I mean the UI itself is nice just to bright for my taste
Torley Linden: Itico, yes, but please quote it exactly, don't paraphrase. :D
Squirrel Wood: I use windlight to build so I am ready for when it goes official
Squirrel Wood: which is what many content creators forget about
Itico Spectre: Why, that's what copy and paste is for. ;)
Torley Linden: Hahahaha.
Torley Linden: AHHH DEAR COPY-AND-PASTE!
Itico Spectre: Why I'm not on voice when interviewing! ;)
Itico Spectre: Ren & Stimpy has nothing over Chat Log.
Arawn Spitteler remembers when Film might be ready by 11, but the stories still got twisted
norritt Xi: I got a question to everyone here , what do you all use SL for I mean except spending Lindens, and having smalltalk with friends?
seanas Anatra: well soo much to discover ill see you around torley :)
Torley Linden: I'd like to explore more inworld... build some more stuff... see what other creative output I can get into.
Arawn Spitteler wanders about, exploring the potential for a real life
Torley Linden: Have a good one seanas, and enjoy your Second Life! Thanks for visiting!
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/19401
Aimee Trescothick: Is dazzle definitely going to go live with the new colour scheme before user skinning is added? I hate to criticise something someone's obviously put a lot of work into, but I find the Dazzle colour scheme completely unusable
norritt Xi: Cya sea
Itico Spectre: I make stuff. :) And harass people with annoying questions. It's fun.
Itico Spectre: Doesn't pay well though.
Itico Spectre shrugs.
norritt Xi: LOL
Jurin Juran: i kind of like the dazzle colour scheme myself
Squirrel Wood: Torley, you Lindens should have an on/off duty button which toggles the Linden last name with another one :p
Torley Linden: Aimee, we're likely going to make more changes, but give people more time to get used to it too. What about it do you particularly find unusable?
norritt Xi: Squirrel you mean an alt account?
Aimee Trescothick: lol Squirrel, how do you know they don't ;)
Torley Linden: Haha Squirrel, I go onto my alt!
EdTek Xeno: I've been enjoying using the 3d building tools to setup some spaces for our uni -- the buiding tools are so esay to use in comparison with other 3d type building tools
Squirrel Wood: not alt account.
Itico Spectre: Lindens can have all the alts they want. ;)
Squirrel Wood: toggleable ingame. without needing to relog :p
Aimee Trescothick: um, it gives me headaches during SL night
Aimee Trescothick: the contrast is too great with the world view
Saijanai Kuhn: anyone can. You just sign them up. I've got 2 alts for testing work
norritt Xi: I bet Lindens have a special feature in ther admin options
Arawn Spitteler: That mightbe a feature, where the alt could be toggled
Jurin Juran: i don't wanna admit how many alts i have
Aimee Trescothick: the current colour scheme works much better for me as it's more neutral
Saijanai Kuhn: the viewer would explode
Itico Spectre: I only have one alt. If I get a quad core, maybe I'll get more. ;)
norritt Xi: They just have to press "Ctr+Alt" and they get a randomly generated new identityXD
Torley Linden: Aimee, that's interesting you mention that too... I've heard that several times.
Jurin Juran: lol norritt
Itico Spectre chuckles.
Arawn Spitteler: Is it true, the minimum number of names, for each linden, is four?
Squirrel Wood: alts is something I avoid using...
norritt Xi: Its like the fast user change in Win
Aimee Trescothick: There are specs out there somewhere about recommended maximum contrast ratios to avoid eyestrain, not sure if your design people have come across those
EdTek Xeno: me too Squirrel -- it's hard enough managing the inventory of one av
Razrcut Brooks: hmmm I see an interesting debate at 1pm in Search/Events/Discussion : Immersion vs Augmentation . I think Immersion is when we roleplay on SL and Augmentation is mixing RL and SL..
Itico Spectre: My question is, how many Lindens who come in-world at all want to see the place when they are off? ;)
Jurin Juran: yes at orange, that looks like a good debate razrcut
Saijanai Kuhn: Itico virtually all LIndens are hired from in-world people
Torley Linden: Aimee: Hm, we're familiar with the Apple Human Interface guidelines... if you have any other specific links, please send them to me or let Ben Linden (heading Dazzle and Resident Experience Team) know!
Saijanai Kuhn: I'm not sure that there ANY who weren't in SL before getting hired
Torley Linden: Arawn: What do you mean by "minimum number of names"? :)
Aimee Trescothick: ok, I'll see what I can find
Torley Linden: We've had some people who were hired who didn't have much inworld experience, or they came inworld after they applied.
Saijanai Kuhn: really? Wow.
Itico Spectre: Well, tell you what, after spending hours building here, I don't feel like going into my normal 3D program and doing more modelling. ;)
Torley Linden: That tends to be in non-Resident-facing roles though, like some aspects of business management, but it's of course good (and I feel very strongly about this) to understand the inworld experience.
Arawn Spitteler: There's a Linden Name, a Linden Alt Name, a pre-linden name, and the name for your Social Security Number doesn't count Tester
Squirrel Wood: What about a Post Linden Name ?
Torley Linden: Arawn: Hmmm I've never heard or known that to be a strict rule.
Jurin Juran: i agree Torley, that having understanding of the inworld experience, in many situations, is very important for LIndens.
Itico Spectre: Heh.
Saijanai Kuhn: you couldn't do most of the programming jobs at LL if you didn't have in-world experience
Torley Linden: I feel strongly about having Lindens come in here and experience bugs... little ones, big ones... ones that you run across in your daily Second Life and aren't necessarily going to come up in the course of QA tests.
Saijanai Kuhn: certainly you couldn't design anything
Jurin Juran: hello, IvanTwin :)
Torley Linden: Some brilliant devs I know learned LSL very quickly after starting @ LL.
Saijanai Kuhn: maybe at the lowest level, but nothing that impacted the world directly
IvanTwin Rogers: hello Jurin
Itico Spectre: Experience being hacked to little pieces by annoyed residents. Hmmm.
Itico Spectre: .
Itico Spectre grins.
Squirrel Wood: Oh.. Torley, if you ever find the time I'd like to show you what I've done to my terraformer ^^
Aimee Trescothick: hey LSL was written in a day so the story goes :D
Torley Linden: Haha Itico, well it IS important to experience suffering!
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
IvanTwin Rogers: hello guys
Torley Linden: Aimee, that sounds like one of Cory's legendary stories...
Torley Linden: Hiya IvanTwin and welcome to my Office Hour!
Aimee Trescothick: lol, yes, that's what I thought
Saijanai Kuhn: the concepts of moving from one world to another between (say) Second LIfe and OPen Sim require you to be able to put on the shoes of a builder and a scripter and a normal citizen
IvanTwin Rogers: omg its Torley Linden!!
Jurin Juran: lol IvanTwin
IvanTwin Rogers: i want touch you
IvanTwin Rogers: haha
Itico Spectre: Torley, when I was parcelling a friend's sim and having SL stopping me from doing what I wanted, from one second working, to the next not, that was suffering.
Squirrel Wood: Hmm...
Squirrel Wood: Does anyone know the exact location of Pony Linden ?
Arawn Spitteler: Ever try scripting for a class, with Open malfunctioning half the time?
Torley Linden: PONY LINDEN GOT TURNED INTO GLUE!
Torley Linden: HA HA HA!
Jurin Juran: i hate when i've spend alot of time building something, to find i've been logged out while building
Torley Linden: OK, sorry, was being cruel.
Torley Linden: But seriously...
Squirrel Wood: ^^
Torley Linden: Pony Linden was retired.
Harleen Gretzky: lmao
Squirrel Wood: aww
Torley Linden: There was a video showing Ben and Pony riding off into the sunset.
Jurin Juran: poor pony
Aimee Trescothick: is that what holds prims together when you link them?
Torley Linden: Ben Linden (who left LL).
Aimee Trescothick: Pony Linden glue
Torley Linden: Aimee, I've always thought it was some sort of magical force.
Aimee Trescothick: lol
Itico Spectre: Heh.
Arawn Spitteler: It's a matter of grouping, since Prims have no initiative of thier own, they just go with the crowd
Aimee Trescothick: lol
Itico Spectre: Like ponies.
IvanTwin Rogers: so
Jurin Juran: so there is no Primforce? so sad
Torley Linden: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoY37v3njvs
Squirrel Wood: The bugs hold them together
Aimee Trescothick: oh btw Torley, I posted a fix for one of your JIRA issues, VWR-3664, the Web Profile scaling wrong one
Arawn Spitteler: There are no collisions, in second life, but only calculations of virtual collisions
norritt Xi: Re
norritt Xi: *gah* Windlight killed my whole system again
Torley Linden: Oh my gosh, that keeps bugging me to this day... thank *you* Aimee!
IvanTwin Rogers: i love Windlight
Jurin Juran: I love Windlight too, IvanTwin
norritt Xi: So do I but the Memory leak and crashing the whole OS is really annoying
Torley Linden: I'll let devs know you have a patch, Aimee.
Aimee Trescothick: :) it's an easy XML one, it's getting scaled twice for some reason, not sure if it's the "right" way to fix it, but it works :)
EdTek Xeno: Norritt, memory leak on win, mac, or both?
Itico Spectre: When these all get incorperated into the RC, I can uninstall a few viewers. heh.
norritt Xi: On windows, I recently took a screenshot of WL using 1.7GB ram
Squirrel Wood never noticed any memory leaks on windows... runs TaskInfo to keep an eye on memory usage
Torley Linden: Good to know.
norritt Xi: My peak was 2.2GB though
norritt Xi: But AFAIK there is a similar issue on Max
Torley Linden: We do still have some memory leak problems, I've seen WindLight climb upwards of 1.3 GB myself.
norritt Xi: Mac's even
Torley Linden: Right now WL is using 800 MB for me.
Squirrel Wood: not even 500mb memory used here by the WL client
Itico Spectre: Oh, I haven't looked. But, I'm running 2 RCs.
norritt Xi: Yeah I restart WL several times a day to prevent mem usage getting that high
Torley Linden: It can be a pain to relog.
EdTek Xeno: WL's now at 600MB real, 1.5GB virtual on macintel
IvanTwin Rogers: omg i touch a torley linden
IvanTwin Rogers: hehe
IvanTwin Rogers: see later my friend

IvanTwin Rogers: enjoy
Torley Linden: Hahaha.
Torley Linden: :D
Aimee Trescothick: Torley should charge for that as a service
IvanTwin Rogers: do you see my profile?
Itico Spectre: Hmm.
Squirrel Wood: 499664kb total memory usage
IvanTwin Rogers: torley?
IvanTwin Rogers: read
Torley Linden: LOL, only if I can market a special kind of holy water... watermelon juice with it.
norritt Xi: The problem its hard to gather details about that since whole sys is on halt usally when WL crashes. It cant even send a crash report then very often
Itico Spectre: I'm using 1.64G between the two viewers.
Torley Linden: Yes I'm seeing what you're saying, IvanTwin!
Arawn Spitteler wonders if Torley would like a hat: touch_start(integer t)
IvanTwin Rogers: hehe
Torley Linden: norritt, ah we know about that bug.
Torley Linden: LOL and have it count upwards...
norritt Xi: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-5089
IvanTwin Rogers: i live in second life forever
IvanTwin Rogers: bye
Torley Linden: Bye!
Arawn Spitteler: { llSay(0, llGetDetectedName(--t) + " touched "+ llKey2Name(llGetOwner())); }
norritt Xi: Sounds like the bublebee avatar
norritt Xi: bumblebee even...
Torley Linden: What's each and everyone's plans for this weekend?
Squirrel Wood: team fortress 2, audiosurf, SL
Itico Spectre: I'm finishing Half Life 2. ;)
norritt Xi: Humm learning a lot... scripting more stuff.
Aimee Trescothick: lol, work work and maybe a litle work squeezed in there somewhere
Torley Linden: Hahah that Orange Box is just too good to pass up eh? ;)
Saijanai Kuhn: writing Second LIfe documentation and watching anime
Torley Linden: I plan to do some art... I hope.
Itico Spectre: Yeah, and I might finish my vendor.
norritt Xi: Installing Development Environment and trying to find some more info about the memory bug...
Torley Linden: Maybe record some more piano stuff, and check out video tutorial promotional stuff.
Aimee Trescothick: and maybe persuading 1.19.1 it wants to compile :)
Itico Spectre: What is your art medium Torley?
Arawn Spitteler has to find a job, in SL: Is anyone paying L$6,000/hr, or should I go higher?
Torley Linden: Itico, digital. I like programs like ArtRage and odd little graphics apps that make cool stuff.
Itico Spectre nods.
norritt Xi: Hey Torley got sth. for your office here if you like, hope this is not considered corruption or something XD
Torley Linden: Arawn, I don't know anyone offhand, but what are your specific interests re: job?
Torley Linden: norritt, thanks!
Itico Spectre: My girlfriend can do anything in Photoshop. Or paint/draw.
norritt Xi gave you nXC SLArmageddon-O-Meter.
Saijanai Kuhn: Torley I would LIKE to write an app that makes animated origami sculpties but its turnout out to be a hard problem
Itico Spectre: I just do 3D modelling.
Torley Linden: Sai, sounds like that would be really beautiful.
norritt Xi: Just turn it around 180°
Aimee Trescothick: ooh, origami sculpties, that would be wonderful
Squirrel Wood: might need multiple sculpties there
Torley Linden: I like origami/paper engineering, haven't done much of it myself but I appreciate the artform.
norritt Xi: Got the backside there
Squirrel Wood: or multiple scripts to get around the delays
Arawn Spitteler: Most of my resume lists unbelievable godhood, so it's hard to shop around, credibly.
Saijanai Kuhn: past a certain level of complexity, yeah, but for simple ones... one prim sculpties
Arawn Spitteler can do a back-rub, on line, and is looking to raise the dead.
norritt Xi: *ack* packetloss spiking again...
norritt Xi: can anyone confirm that right now?
Arawn Spitteler: RRG, is that Packet Loss?
norritt Xi: Press Ctrl+Shift+1 right side of your screen below "Bandwith"
Squirrel Wood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCgnFIk5Acg
norritt Xi: There you get the Packet Loss in percent
Aimee Trescothick: ok, popping on over to Brampton, seeya later :)
Saijanai Kuhn: http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Origami.html I think that bird could be a one prim sculpty
Torley Linden: Take care Aimee!
norritt Xi: Cya Aimee
Itico Spectre: Heh, if I give you my one youtube, it's because I don't like you. ;)
Aimee Trescothick: bye :) tc
Torley Linden: I've seen some insanely amazing paper dragons.
Itico Spectre waves.
Saijanai Kuhn: there's a physics/engineering guy who does origami dispalys for museums. Crazy stuff
Torley Linden: I think I may've heard of that same guy before...
Torley Linden: that's a great way to take your expertise in one area and splurge it in another.
Torley Linden: norritt, I like the glow on you, reminds me of Tron. :)
Saijanai Kuhn: http://www.langorigami.com/
norritt Xi: Yes I tried to recreate tron
Torley Linden: I like the music to Tron a lot.
EdTek Xeno: hey torley, can I ask you a practical question --
Torley Linden: Sure EdTek! Please do!
EdTek Xeno: i've really appreciated your tutorials
norritt Xi: Was a great movie plus they had some interesting visions put into it considering the time the movie was recorded
Squirrel Wood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6K4RLdodpY
EdTek Xeno: i need to develop some as well for our fac/students/admins
EdTek Xeno: what's your recipe for creating them?
EdTek Xeno: fps, etc...
norritt Xi: The whole networking/firewall thingy multitasking and stuff wasn't really something people spoke about at that time
Torley Linden: EdTek, I'm SO glad you asked! I have the step-by-step I do written up here: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden/Vidtut_process
EdTek Xeno: do you capture using camtasia when you're capturing the whole ui?
EdTek Xeno: ok -- nice
Torley Linden: If you think any of that needs clarification, let me know.
EdTek Xeno: I'll check it out
Torley Linden: I can change/expand it...
EdTek Xeno: sweet
Saijanai Kuhn: http://www.langorigami.com/art/monumental/monumental.php4
Torley Linden: and for now, I stopped using FRAPS, I'm pretty much focused on Camtasia.
norritt Xi: Do you have a tiny avatar Torley?
EdTek Xeno: what about the mac?
Itico Spectre: Torley, if I pass you the article to show about, could you have feedback, suggestions to me before tomorrow evening? ;) I'm supposed to a story a week. ;)
Torley Linden: norritt, yes, I have some!
Torley Linden: EdTek, I think iShowU is the way to go on Mac, or Snapz Pro.
Torley Linden: Itico, I don't work tomorrow, alas!
EdTek Xeno: I'll check out iShowU -- I called ambrosia today to buy a copy and they were absolute nazis
norritt Xi gave you tiny tron.
Squirrel Wood: Eep!
norritt Xi gave you nXC-TinyTron README.
Squirrel Wood: No work?
Arawn Spitteler wonders if Torley has ever gone as just an orb, or ellipse.
Torley Linden: Ack sucks to hear that EdTek, what happened? Were they very strict?
Squirrel Wood: They gave you a day off Torley? ;)
Torley Linden: Yes, I currently work longer-hour Mon.-Thurs., hence the move in my Office Hour!
Torley Linden: I've gone as an energy being before.
Itico Spectre: Ah, well then, you'll just have to live with whatever I say then. ;)
Torley Linden: Haha.
Itico Spectre: Always wanted an energy ball av, but I have enough avs.
EdTek Xeno: well, I've loved snapz pro since mac os 8.6 -- and have been recommending it for years
Torley Linden: Ahh. So what changed with Ambrosia, EdTek?
Itico Spectre: I skipped OS8, went from 7 to 10. Hah.
Arawn Spitteler: I've seen a couple people sith just orbs, and a Watermelon could use the same AO
EdTek Xeno: today the sales rep didnt listen, was argumentative, and combative -- and i was hoping to get us setup to use snapz pro as our mac solution for screencasting
EdTek Xeno: for all uni faculty
Torley Linden: Ugh to hear that. :\
EdTek Xeno: yeah -- serious downer
EdTek Xeno: I'll check out the other app though -- I also found another one today...looking it up
Torley Linden: Aye... hope you do find a solution that works well for you!
Arawn Spitteler: Has the University been getting a steep discount?
EdTek Xeno: Screenflow
Torley Linden: Pardon me, I've got to go for now, but hope you have a good weekend and see you next week! Thanks for visiting with me. :)
Torley Linden: (Never heard of Screenflow before, will check that out.)
EdTek Xeno: u2 -- take care torley
EdTek Xeno: thanks for the vid tips
Harleen Gretzky: take care Torley
EdTek Xeno: arawn -- we haven't bought yet
norritt Xi: Thanks for welcoming us Torley have a great day
Saijanai Kuhn: I use Spapz Pro. Sent an emial ot Ambrosia that they should make a version specifically for SL
Torley Linden: All good movie recording tools should be added to http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Movie_Recording !
EdTek Xeno: i've bought camtasia for faculty on win
Arawn Spitteler: A Cranky Salesman is not a good sign.
Torley Linden: You're welcome EdTek, take care Harleen, you too norritt, bye all!
