Linden Home overview

Linden Home is a new Premium account feature in the Second Life virtual world owned and managed by Linden Lab. We've provided it in the spirit of helping Residents own land, and it includes a ready-to-move-in home while belonging to a themed community.

Introducing Linden Homes

Linden Home regions are located in the new Nascera continent. In addition to Support access, a monthly Linden Dollar (L$) stipend, and 512m² land allocation without usage fees, Premium accounts now include Linden Homes! Use your included tier (What is tier?) towards a Linden Home in one of our four themed communities. Receive land for free with the home you select, ready and waiting for you to move in!

Linden Homes are for residential use only and provide an opportunity for Premium account holders to own land and a home to gain home ownership experience.

Linden Home qualifications

Premium accounts with 512m² available tier are qualified for Linden Home. (Tier can be used for a free Linden Home or to buy land on the mainland.) For example, if you have a new Premium account — you've just joined Second Life as a Premium account or upgraded from a Basic account — and haven't changed your land usage, then you have exactly 512m² of available tier.

How do I check my available tier?

Important: Be sure to check your available tier! If you don't have 512m2 or more, you can upgrade to the next tier level on the Land Use Fees page.

Signup for your Linden Home

New account registrations

1. Go to join.secondlife.com.
2. Complete your registration.
3. Upgrade to Premium as prompted.
4. Go to Linden Home registration and log in with your Second Life account and password.

Existing Basic accounts

1. Go to Premium Membership registration and log in with your Second Life account.
2. Follow the account upgrade process.
3. Once your account is upgraded to Premium Membership, the page will redirect to Linden Home registration.

Existing Premium accounts

1. Go to Linden Home registration and log in with your Second Life account and password.
2. View the four themed communities and home options within each theme.
3. Click on your preferred home image.
4. Name your home.
5. Read the Terms and Conditions.
6. Check the box agreeing to the Linden Home Terms and Conditions.
7. Click Submit.
8. Review your Linden Home information on the confirmation page.
9. Click Go to your Home or use the SLurl provided.

Note: Confirmation is sent to the email address used during registration of your Second Life account.

Note: If all the homes of a theme are taken, the theme is removed from the theme selection list. Select a home from an available theme, or follow our Second Life tweets for notification of new home arrivals. If all homes are taken from all themes, Linden Homes will be offline until more Linden Homes are added.

Linden Home Features

Welcome to your new Linden Home. Linden Homes contain one or more of the following features, depending on the home you selected:

• Touch entry - Left-click the front door to enter and exit your home.
• Touch lighting - Click the lights to toggle them on and off.
• Working fireplace - Click the fireplace to toggle a fire on and off.

Each Linden Home includes 117 prims on a 512 m² parcel.

Linden Home Control Panel (Beta)

In addition to working features within your Linden Home, such as click-able lighting, each home includes a Linden Home Control Panel. Manage your home accessories, home and detail textures from your browser!

1. Click the Control Panel located next to your front door.
2. Select a Category.
3. Select an option
4. Select an action or texture
5. Click Apply

Note: Accessory controls are restricted for use by the Linden Home owner only. It is not available to group members for Linden Home parcels set to group.

Accessory Controls

Some features vary between home models. Use the Accessory Controls to manage the features included in your model. See the list of Linden Home themes and models above to identify which features your home includes.

Toggle each feature on and off.

• Exterior Lighting - Toggle your exterior lighting.
• Interior Lighting - Toggle your built-in lighting.
• Door Locks - Lock your door so that only the owner can click on it to open.
• Fireplace - Toggle your fireplace flame.

Note: Using the door lock option limits the ability to open and close the door to the Linden Home parcel owner.

Complete Texture Sets

Complete Texture Sets provide color scheme options for your home. Select the Complete Texture Sets option, then browse through the texture set choices.

1. Click the texture set thumbnails for full image views.
2. Select a texture set.
3. Click Apply.

The selected color scheme will appear on your home. Your home model will not change.

Tip: The Linden Home Control Panel is in Beta. If you experience delayed response times with textures loading, we'd like to know about it. Please search bug reports on the public JIRA for a similar issue and add your comments. If you do not find a similar issue, please create a new bug report. Usual texture load time should be 1-3 minutes.

Home Detail Textures

Use these options to personalize your Linden Home.

• Trim - Change the exterior trim texture.
• Door - Change the texture of the door(s) in your Linden Home.
• Floor - Change the texture of the floor.
• Windows - Apply window treatments such as curtains or tinting to your Linden Home windows!

Note: If you have applied window treatments then change the Full House Texture, you will need to reapply window treatments.

• Fireplace Appearance - Change your fireplace texture.
• Roof - Change the texture of your roof.
• House Numbers - Change the texture of your house numbers.
• Patio - Linden Homes that have a decorative Patio area may choose from a few different options, such as a small reflecting pool, grass, rocks, sand, and more.
• Interior Ceiling - Change the texture of your ceiling. Some homes with multiple levels may have more than one, designated as Interior Ceiling 1 and Interior Ceiling 2.
• Exterior Walls - Select and change the texture of your homes exterior walls.
• Interior Walls - Select and change the texture of your interior walls.
• House Number Display - Change the texture of the panel behind your house numbers. Texture options allow for you to match your front door texture.

Linden Home Textures

Texture packs are available in each Linden Home infohub. These texture packs contain the building textures for each Linden Home theme, for use in your own personal or commercial projects. Resale of textures is prohibited.

Restrictions

Linden Homes have restrictions as outlined in the Linden Home covenant. The covenant is available for your review inworld or see: Linden Home Covenant.

Tip: When standing on your home parcel, go to World > Region/Estate and click the Covenant tab.

Linden Home

How does Linden Home differ from other mainland?

One of the perks of a Premium account is 512m² land allocation free from additional tier fees. This means you can own 512m² of land without paying monthly land use fees to Linden Lab.

When using tier outside of Linden Home on the mainland, it's necessary for you to purchase your own land, because available tier is the potential to own land, not the land itself. However, one question we've received repeatedly over time is "Where is my free land with my Premium account?".

We've been listening! The Linden Home project is designed to provide you with land and home access using your free tier allocation. Register for your Linden Home and get started living in a themed community!

Do I have to purchase my Linden Home parcel or home?

No. Linden Home parcels and themed homes are provided to Residents with 512m² available land allocation. Each Premium account is provided with 512m² free tier that can be used for a Linden Home.

What's the difference between "tier" and "land"?

See this.

Now that I have my Linden Home, what's next?

Congratulations on your new Linden Home. There are a few steps you may want to take to ensure a pleasurable experience in your themed community.

• Set your Home location
  • Select World > Set Home to Here to set your new Linden Home as your home location.
  • You can always return home by using World > Teleport Home.
• Create a Landmark
  • While standing at your Linden Home, use World > Create Landmark Here. It appears in the Landmarks folder of your inventory, which you can share with others or use for your own convenience.
• Decorate!
  • Personalize your Linden Home with your existing inventory items or go shopping for new items. Each Linden Home includes 117 prims for your decorating needs!
• Invite your friends to your new home!
  • Create a SLurl and share it with your friends.
  • Click the Snapshot button on the toolbar (at the bottom of the Second Life Viewer) to take a snapshot of your new home.
  • In the Snapshot Preview window, send the snapshot to your friends outside of Second Life using the Send via email option. Your email will include your image and a SLurl to visit you inworld.
• Get to know your neighbors!
  • Linden Home is a community-themed environment. Each of your neighbors selected the same theme during registration. You already have something in common! Wave to your neighbors and make new friends.
  • Visit a Linden Home Infohub and expand your neighborhood by meeting others who share your theme interest. Share decorating tips!

Where can I shop for items to decorate my Linden Home?

Decorate your home by shopping on the Xstreet virtual marketplace website or from inworld using the Search window.

Customization and collaboration

Can I modify my Linden Home themed house?

Linden Homes can't be modified. The option to customize home textures may be coming soon.

But you can certainly decorate your Linden Home with furniture and other objects, which is a great way to make your home unique.

Can parts of my house, like the fireplace, be removed?

No, the Linden Home is provided without the option of removing individual components.

Can my house be rotated or moved on its parcel?

Unfortunately home positions are permanent and they can't be rotated or moved. If you require terraforming outside of your parcel in order to use the front entryway:

1. Go to the Support Portal.
2. Click New Ticket Submission.
3. From the dropdown menus, choose:
   1. Ticket Type: Land and Region Issues
   2. Region Request: Contact the Linden Dept of Public Works
4. Fill in the rest of the required information.
5. Click Finish to submit your ticket.

Can I move my house to another parcel?

No, your house must remain on its 512m² parcel as part of the special Linden Home package.

If you want both a Linden Home and more land for your Premium account, you can upgrade on the Land Use Fees page.

Can my partner or friends help decorate my home?

Yes! Linden Home parcels work just like any other parcel of land in that regard; who can rez objects on your land depends on the About Land settings. Learn more about how to adjust your About Land settings for your Linden Home.

My group has 512m² available tier. Can I get Linden Home land for my group?

Linden Home land can't be group-owned. But if your personal Resident account is eligible for Linden Home land, you can set the land to a group to collaborate with other group members.

Land Use Fees

Does having a Linden Home use all my tier?

It depends:

• If you have exactly 512m² of available tier, which is likely if you're have a new Premium account or just upgraded to one (or a similar situation), yes.
• If you have more than 512m² of available tier, no.
• If you have less than 512m² of available tier, you must increase your tier, or otherwise make more tier available.

How do I know if I have 512m² tier available for Linden Home?

• Inworld
  1. From the menus on the top of the Viewer window, choose World > My Land.
• Website
  1. Go to the Your Account page.
  2. On the left, click Land Manager, then click Land Use Fees.

Do I have to use my Premium account tier towards Linden Home?

No. Linden Home is an additional land option for use with 512m² available tier. You can also use your tier towards other mainland or contribute to group tier allocations.

Also, if you abandon your Linden Home, you can buy other mainland to use your 512m² tier with. We've made it flexible for you.

I don't have 512m² tier available and would like to register for Linden Home. Can I tier up?

Yes! If you'd like to register for a Linden Home yet you don't have enough tier available, move up to the next tier level. Go to the Land Use Fees page in Your Account.

I've decided to purchase a private region. Will my Linden Home automatically be removed from my account?

In such a situation, this likely means you're upgrading from a Premium account to a Concierge account, but since Concierge accounts don't need mainland tier to own a private region — they're separate systems — you can downgrade mainland tier on the Land Use Fees page.

When you're ready to move on from your Linden Home:

1. Choose World > About Land and click the General tab.
2. Click Abandon Land. After confirming, the land is removed from your account.

Can I sell my Linden Home?

Linden Home land cannot be terraformed, sold, deeded to group, joined, or divided. Please review the inworld covenant for restrictions unique to Linden Homes.

Land and Home Guidelines

I read the Linden Home Guidelines during registration. Is there additional information available about use of Linden Homes?

The Linden Home covenant is available inworld. While on your parcel, go to World > Region/Estate and click on the Covenant tab.

Linden Home is also governed by our Terms of Service (TOS) and Community Standards (CS).

Registration

Can I register for more than one Linden Home?

There's a limit of one Linden Home registration per Premium account.

The house theme I wanted is gone! What do I do?

Please be patient if the house theme you want is sold out — we're going to keep adding more, so if you really want that kind, check back soon.

I didn't receive my confirmation email. What should I do?

If you didn't receive your email confirmation, be sure to check your email application's spam folder.

It's also possible there could've been an error in the email process, and your Linden Home is ready and waiting for you. If your Linden Home is ready, a landmark is sent to you inworld. If there appears to be such a problem, head to the Support Portal and submit a ticket. Identify whether the email did not go through and your home is actually available, or whether there was a problem with the registration process overall.

Can I make a request to select a specific region or parcel?

The Linden Home registration process offers theme, home type, and home naming options. Once you submit your registration, your selected home is immediately generated on the next available parcel within your selected theme. We don't offer specific parcel requests.

I have my Linden Home yet would prefer a different theme. Can I change my selection?

Yes!

1. Choose World > About Land and click the General tab.
2. Click Abandon Land. After confirming, the land is removed from your account.

That's it! You can register for another Linden Home.

Warning: Please use this reasonably: if you abandon and choose a new Linden Home five times in 24 hours, you're temporarily blocked from choosing another. You'll need to wait after 24 hours have elapsed to register again.

Beyond Linden Home should you wish to "spread your wings", there are a couple other land options:

• General mainland - Purchase inworld or through a Land Auction.
• Private regions - Purchase through our Land Store, or you can rent parcels from Resident estate owners.

Covenant

Welcome to Linden Home for Premium account holders. Linden Home is a residential community, located on the Nascera continent, owned and managed by Linden Lab. For more information, see our Linden Home launch blog post.

The purpose of Linden Home is to provide an opportunity for Premium account Residents of the Second Life virtual world to quickly own a home and belong to a community. Linden Home is available to Premium account holders with 512m² available tier at no cost.

As a Premium Account holder, you're eligible for live chat and ticket support from our Support Portal. If you need support for your Linden Home:

1. Go to the Support Portal and submit a ticket.
2. Select the Land and Regions Issues ticket type.
3. Under the reulting Region Request dropown, select Linden Home.

Linden Home is governed by this Covenant, Linden Home Terms and Conditions, Terms of Service (TOS), and Community Standards (CS).

Linden Home Restrictions

Linden Home has unique restrictions in addition to those outlined in the Linden HOme Terms and Conditions. By accepting a Linden Home, you agree to additional restrictions as follows:

• Linden Home is for residential use only.
• Business use of any kind is prohibited, including parcel rental, rental boxes, classified ads or other forms of advertising, and event listings.
• Land cannot be terraformed, sold, deeded to group, joined, or divided.
• Land cannot contain sky boxes, temp-rezzers, or individual prims beyond the allocated size of the Second Life Viewer build tools — 10x10x10m (no megaprims).
• Linden Homes may not be removed, modified, exchanged, set or deeded to group, or transferred.
• Linden Homes should be kept presentable and in-theme.
• Linden Homes should not be used as sandboxes.
• Linden Homes do not include traffic tracking.
• Ownership is limited to one Linden Home per Premium Account.
