  Office Orb  http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/OPEN-43

OPEN-43 Autobuild2010 package project does not place LindenDeveloper.exe in build-vc100/newview/RelWithDebInfo

07:05  Wolfpup  the only time i got autobuild to work on my system this worked but i was building in release mode not relwithdebuginfo
  বরুনদাশ গুপ্তে  ah, https://lists.secondlife.com/pipermail/viewer-development-builds/ works
  Oz Linden  http://lists.secondlife.com/pipermail/viewer-development-builds/
07:06    This issue is not really clear....

    hey open :)
  oobscure  hey everybody
07:07  Oz Linden  It's possiblle that OPEN-43 is a side effect of a naming bug that I believe is fixed now
Wolfpup  Oz what it looks like is happening is that in the relwithdebuginfo mode the file is not actualy being made
Ima Mechanique  my last RelWithDebInfo build with merov's repo had a LindenDeveloper.exe file
07:08  Wolfpup  some one on windows that has a working autobuild environment might need to retest
Ima Mechanique  I have another build running now which should be finished soon(ish)
Oz Linden  the fix was just pulled on Saturday (or maybe Sunday)
07:09  Wolfpup  Oz my only sucessful build run in autobuild was done when i reported the font issue
Oz Linden  well, step one is to find out whether the windows installer produced by TeamCity works
if it does, but local builds do not, then we know something about where to look
07:10    I am assuming (though the issue does not actually say so) that the user-visible problem is that the install does not have the right binary in it?

I am assuming (though the issue does not actually say so) that the user-visible problem is that the install does not have the right binary in it?
07:11  Wolfpup  actualy it is when the step copying secondlife-bin -> LindenDeveloper sliently fails
  Oz Linden  not enough context
copying when? as part of the build?
07:12  Wolfpup  yes
Oz Linden  ok, well, the TC builds pass, so it's some local problem at most
I'm going to send this back for more info
Wolfpup  it might be the fact thant the working directory dose not get set right
07:14    in my working build i had @ the end of the building of the viewer a step that set the working directory and then fired devenv to mod the sloution
Oz Linden  It's not a good bug report
Wolfpup  but im not on express
07:15  Oz Linden  every report should specify the precise environment - for a build problem that means what repo and tip changeset, exactly what command was run, and exactly what error occurred. That issue does not specify any of those
  Wolfpup  true
07:16  Oz Linden  Last item, which is a followup from last Wednesday.... the open developer queue
  Wolfpup  open developer que ?
07:17  Oz Linden  I've decided that what I'm going to do is to add a Label (open-candidate ?) to issues in the STORM Product Backlog
07:18    that will indicate that those issues are ones that we'd really like open devs to take on (because we want them but for whatever reason Lindens are unlikely to be able to do them soon)
07:19  Wolfpup  ok
  Ima Mechanique  sounds reasonable ;-)
Oz Linden  The goal is to let people know which issues we will certainly review quickly if they're worked on
07:20  draconis.neurocam  im sure an indicator of such would be appretiated
Oz Linden  I'll add a shared filter for them, and put a link to it on the Snowstorm wiki page
07:21  Wolfpup  it would help if those that dowork on a give issue was able to move it as well
Oz Linden  That should not be taken to mean that we won't look at other stuff, but those will get you extra brownie points with me :-)
you mean move it from VWR to STORM?
Wolfpup  or from backlog to current sprint
07:23  Oz Linden  VWR -> STORM is a triage decision ... for some things, any Snowstorm team member will be able to do those for you if you just drop us an email
for others, we'll have to get wider review
07:24    within LL, I mean
Wolfpup  what if the issue is already on the strom back log ?
Oz Linden  I'm going to be spending a lot of time discussing the VWR triage process this week with our new VP
07:25  draconis.neurocam  who is the new vp?
Oz Linden  if it's already on the STORM backlog, and you're going to commit to do it for a particular sprint, as long as it won't require major LL work (such as needing substantial UI design from us), the any of us should be able to do that any time
07:26    The marketing people would be annoyed with me if I told you his name before they do a formal announcement
  draconis.neurocam  ah alright
07:27  Oz Linden  But he'll be spending most of this week in the Boston office, and I expect to spend a lot of time with him
    Selling Snowstorm and Open Source
draconis.neurocam  thats good news, im sure you will be persuasive
Oz Linden  I've got good data to work from
07:28  Ima Mechanique  autobuild RelWithDebInfo just finished LindenDeveloper all present and correct.
that's merov's repo updated on Sunday
Wolfpup  i think if he sees how well storm has progresed the viewer and how much the open source community has helped with issues getting fixed that should help to sell those to the new VP
07:29  Oz Linden  but it shouldn't have that name... what is the tip changeset on your repo?
Ima Mechanique  hmm, don't know how to find that
Oz Linden  on the command line: hg log -r tip
Ima Mechanique  I'm not much good with hg
Wolfpup  Ima look with HG Repository Explorer it will show the default tip
Ima Mechanique  okay just a sec
07:30  বরুনদাশ গুপ্তে  just "hg tip" should work, too
  Ima Mechanique  changeset: 15374:a9dac2f5d7c6

tag: tip parent: 15373:e9b24d6d636c parent: 15372:3731b832df63 user: Merov Linden <merov@lindenlab.com> date: Sat Mar 19 14:53:09 2011 -0700 summary: Sync with merov_linden/viewer-autobuild2010

বরুনদাশ গুপ্তে  though, it's usually more interesting what the working dir's parent is, than what the tip is:
    hg parent
07:31  Ima Mechanique  parent is the same
  বরুনদাশ গুপ্তে  ok
Oz Linden  actually, do this: hg log -r a64f612d838c
07:32  Ima Mechanique  D:\Dev\C++\SL\ab-merov>hg log -r a64f612d838c

Oz Linden  hmm.... well, you have the fix....
Wolfpup  Oz curreing tip in merovs repository is changeset a7f1a82d4606
07:33  Oz Linden  sounds like Nickys bug is probably fixed
07:34    there were a couple of related problems that got fixed very late last week
07:36  Ima Mechanique  there were a whole bunch of commits. I read through them before pulling
Oz Linden  who's running an autobuilt viewer now?
Ima Mechanique  you mean here on one?
07:37  Wolfpup  the autobuilt viewer i had has decreased font size
Ima Mechanique  as I do have the new build opened as well , but in Phoenix here
Oz Linden  there's another batch coming as soon as my test build completes
  বরুনদাশ গুপ্তে  I didn't yet manage to build 64bit with autobuild, but I'm almost there, I believe.
Ima Mechanique  Wolfpup, looks like NickyP's suggested fix does the job
Wolfpup  i will have to make the adjust ment nicky did and try a rebuild tonight
07:38    ok Ima
draconis.neurocam  i tried the vs2010 beta, but im currently on the latest viewer-dev teamcity build thing
Oz Linden  yes - actually, as far as I've heard the font issue is the worst thing anyone has found
Ima Mechanique  I'm gonna compare the previous build side by side to be sure though
  Wolfpup  and i found that
07:39  Ima Mechanique  Oz you mean apart from my CTRL+SHIFT+G, I *mis* that toggle and can't work out why it doesn't work for me
Oz Linden  I'm working on a rewrite of the Libraries wiki page to bring it up to date and point to the new open repositories for all the dependencies
07:40    I didn't mean the font thing was the only problem, but the grid selector won't affect many users
Wolfpup  Oz we need to know also what is on the cygwin for the TC farms as there is a major discrepency between those and the OS devs
Ima Mechanique  I was kidding about it being serious ;-)
seems it's only me suffering with it so likely my end
07:41  বরুনদাশ গুপ্তে  has anyone else tested it yet?
Oz Linden  Jenn is going to post new Windows setup documentation this week on the wiki - I'll make sure that is there, Wolfpup
  draconis.neurocam  woo
Ima Mechanique  yes, TC details would help us not to make suggestions that can't work
Oz Linden  I was running it most of the weekend (mostly just being a SL tourist)
07:42  draconis.neurocam  if only more lindens did that oz
  Ardy Lay  Find anything cool?
  Oz Linden  several things
Wolfpup  thx cause i actualy had to edit the build-cmd.sh for the 3p-fmod to get it to make the fmod package
Oz Linden  I've been shopping for cool things to scatter around the Hippo regions
Ima Mechanique  I found a different work around to Wolf
07:43  Oz Linden  We have lots of cool wildlife here now :-)
Wolfpup  Ima we shouldn't have to use workarounds
  Ima Mechanique  I know
draconis.neurocam  watch someone will make breedable hippos
Ima Mechanique  workaround are fine short term, but ar enot long term solutions
Wolfpup  i have some breadable horses
Oz Linden  Hey - a Hippo - why didn't I think of that?
    gotta find one....
07:44    I don't want breedables
Wolfpup  i know they expencive to maintain
Oz Linden  just nice animals that don't require any maintance
Ima Mechanique  yeah breeding hippos would register on the richter scale
Ardy Lay  Somebody gave me a hippo a while back. I don't have a use for it.
07:45  Oz Linden  And someone took me on a tour of Avilon - that was cool
Wolfpup  there are ridable horses you cant get that are not of the breedable type
Oz Linden  Is it a good one, Ardy?
Ardy Lay  I think it just "swims" in circles. Looks like a gag gift to me.
07:46  Wolfpup  Oz you should see the Anichent Dragon Av i have
it even come with a sadle so people can ride with me
Oz Linden  send me a pointer to the Creator for it
Ima Mechanique  Oz does TeamCity refer to the build farm management by Jet Brains?
07:47  Oz Linden  yup ... that's what we use to do all our official builds
Ardy Lay  It's goofy looking. I put it at Merov's place just now.
Ima Mechanique  and can you tellme which environment it uses msbuild?
Oz Linden  I want one that's a bit less cartoonish
07:48    sorry Ima ... I don't understand the question
Ardy Lay  Yeah, looks like an inflated toy.
Ima Mechanique  TeamCity uses build agents to do the building
Oz Linden  yes - we have different agents for the VS 2005 and 2010 builds
07:49  Ima Mechanique  I'm wondering which agent it uses for Windows
will be using for 2010 I should say ;-)
Wolfpup  Ima yes it will once the merg happens
Ima Mechanique  I just want to be sure that anything we come up with can be targeted to be minimal problem with TC
07:50  Oz Linden  I guess that I still don't understand... you can see what it runs in the autobuild.xml and build.sh files
Ardy Lay  Oz, I'd like to know what version of the platform libraries you use on Windows builds.
Oz Linden  that'll be in the documentation Jenn posts, Ardy
  Ardy Lay  Thanks
Wolfpup  Ardy they are listed in the autobuild.xml
Ima Mechanique  ah, but I don't see if it's using msbuild, the GUI, or any of several other ways to leverage VC2010
Oz Linden  I think Ardy meant the MSVC libs
07:51  Ardy Lay  Yes
Oz Linden  Ima - right now, it's running devenv
  Ardy Lay  Oh, hmm...
Wolfpup  btw Oz it seems that the boost files are not current in the autobuild.xml compared to what is listed on the servers
Ima Mechanique  Oz I'll read through the TC documentation again and get you a more specific question ;-)
07:52  Oz Linden  ok
Ima Mechanique  oh, think you've answered me. Could it use the msbuild?
Wolfpup  and the Tc farms set up for Visual Studio 8 2005 right now
Ardy Lay  Microsoft Windows SDK version is what I am asking.
Oz Linden  If you can find a way to run command line buillds under autobuild that works for all editions of VS, that would be a great contribution
07:53    I will set up builds to try whatever you come up with on our TC
Wolfpup  Oz msbuild is what is working
Ima Mechanique  that's what I'm hoping. I know TC will run with msbuild, and so will VCE with latest SDK
07:54    that would essentially remove any difference and simplify matters quite a bit on Windows
Oz Linden  That would let us reduce the number of configurations in the autobuilld.xml
  Ima Mechanique  yes
there would effectively be little or no difference between OS and TC and VCE
07:55  Wolfpup  we would still need the OS options but the VC10's could be merged into the normal OS options
Ima Mechanique  something we'd all appreciate I think ;-)
Oz Linden  If you come up with something, open an issue and link it to OPEN-1
  Office Orb  http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/OPEN-1

OPEN-1 autobuild requires custom configurations for use with Visual Studio Express

07:56  Wolfpup  Oz i beleave some of it has already gon into merovs repository
Oz Linden  just a few minutes left ... any other issues?
  Ima Mechanique  okay
07:57  বরুনদাশ গুপ্তে  Should to standalone configuration attemp a 32bit build by default, or a native one?
07:58  Wolfpup  default standalone for now is 32 isnt it
Oz Linden  The real answer is that I don't care.
  বরুনদাশ গুপ্তে  ok
07:59  Oz Linden  We never do standalone builds
08:00  Office Orb  Your timer has expired!
Oz Linden  I've got another meeting.... see you all soon.
বরুনদাশ গুপ্তে  Wolfpup, yes, current default is 32. But I think it could easily be changed to native by just not defining WORD_SIZE in the configuration.
  Ima Mechanique  okay, bye Oz
