6 AM

Torley Linden: FRIENDLY GREETINGS!
Daedalus Young: hi Torley
Torley Linden: Hihihihi!
Shinee Jewell: welcome Torley
Chase Marellan: Hi, Torley!
Simon Kline: Hey! torley :)))
KirstenLee Cinquetti: elloo
Torley Linden: You are all rezzing...
Angsty Rossini: hellooooo
JetZep Zabelin: hi =)
Torley Linden: Hey Daed, Shinee, Chase, Simon, Kirsten, Angsty, JetZep, all!
Daedalus Young: we all had to use our beacons to turn off that noise the cube is making :P
Torley Linden: And here we are! Welcome to my Linden Office hour, well, the early one at 6 AM PDT... hehe.
Torley Linden: LOL Daed, which one? The wind one? I've been thinking of changing some of those out if they got too stale.
Daedalus Young: and in the rc the line width goes to 127, so that's fixed
Daedalus Young: no, the cube, from the video
Daedalus Young: sound loop
Shinee Jewell: love your necklace Torley lol
Torley Linden: Oh yes... hehe.
Daedalus Young: good testsuite now bte
Daedalus Young: w
Torley Linden: Daed: Hm, I'll have to check the RC in that respect too, I didn't know about that one! Thanks for keeping track of the details.
Torley Linden: Thanks, this necklace was given to me long ago by a couple of Residents, who sadly, I don't think are in SL anymore...
Daedalus Young: ah, just noticed it
Torley Linden: Sec, Daed, are you on NVIDIA or ATI?
Daedalus Young: oh, let me check
Daedalus Young: ati I think
Torley Linden: Because I know ATI can prolly go up to 127...
Torley Linden: but NVIDIA can't.
Torley Linden: (Cube was telling me about that, but I generalized as "some systems" not having more details.)
Daedalus Young: yes, ATI I am on
Daedalus Young: that's probably it then
Torley Linden: That was kinda Yoda-ish!
Torley Linden: I'm glad to see each and all of you here today...
Torley Linden: What's new and exciting in your Second Lives?
Daedalus Young: I'm noticing in the Beacons tear-off btw, I can turn on render highlights and render beacons, I can turn either off too, but they can't be off both
Daedalus Young: is that a feature?
Daedalus Young: or a bug?
Torley Linden: Daed: Hm, I noticed that too, I think that's by design but it's a bit confusing.
KirstenLee Cinquetti: Just got my latest viewer compiled in VS 2005 , and nice n smooth it is too :)
Daedalus Young: ok
Chase Marellan: I've finally started my new book, Platform Second Life.
Torley Linden: Ooh Kirsten, rock on. I have yet to compile a viewer... your name tag is oddly flashing for me and I see you seated above the chair!
Torley Linden: Ohh, new book?
Chase Marellan: Yep, it's about programming in the intersection between SL and RL.
Chase Marellan: Like, I built a SL-Sametime gateway
Chase Marellan: so that you can be in Sametime (and soon, AIM and Yahoo) and chat with SL users
Torley Linden: I'm not familiar with Sametime yet.
Torley Linden: *intrigued*
Chase Marellan: It's like Messenger, but for enterprises. :)
Shinee Jewell: on the fun side... Simon and I have been baywatch running down giant slides
KirstenLee Cinquetti: hehe
Chase Marellan: That's funny. :)
Vixens Populated Female AO: Couldn't find animation glide_2
Vixens Populated Female AO: Couldn't find animation glide_2

Vixens Populated Female AO: Couldn't find animation glide_2
Chase Marellan: Actually, I'm looking for people who have projects that are like that -- programming outside of SL and inside at the same time -- to features
Chase Marellan: feature
Torley Linden: *looks up info about this Sametime*
Torley Linden: Ooh it's a Lotus product?
ROMSEY Homewood: Hey everyone
Daedalus Young: hi
KirstenLee Cinquetti: ello Romsey
Simon Kline: hiya romsey
ROMSEY Homewood: wow its npoisy here!
Chase Marellan: Yes, but I found out yesterday the gateway will let us talk directly to Yahoo and AIM and ICQ, so it'll work for that too.
Torley Linden: Hiya ROMSEY!
Chase Marellan: Hi all
Simon Kline: i do chase!!!
ROMSEY Homewood: Hello Torley
Shinee Jewell: waited for it lol
Torley Linden: It's exciting to see more connections between SL and the "outside"...
Shinee Jewell: hi Romsey
Simon Kline nods
Torley Linden: Light clients and such, I'd find those handy.
Chase Marellan: So people can be outside of SL and know when somebody comes to their land so they can jump in and help
ROMSEY Homewood: :O)
Lyndsey Forager: Hiya there, apologies for dropping in late :)
Chase Marellan: or just give advice from outside.
Daedalus Young: yes Romsey, a cube to the South is looping a sound
Daedalus Young: you can mute it
Torley Linden: Chase: Hey, that's really useful, incl. for vendors who don't wanna wait around all day but like to assist!
Simon Kline: a girl on the teen grid did ajax SL
Shinee Jewell: how likely is it that 3rd party land auctions will be done on eBay?
ROMSEY Homewood: thx
Simon Kline: have u guys seen that?
Chase Marellan: EXACTLY!
Torley Linden: Shinee: I don't know, but are you saying this because you've already heard we've moved to FairMarket? :)
Chase Marellan: I'm very excited, we have a couple of companies that are looking at the "big" version, and we're doing a smaller version for vendors.
Randal Kline: anyone tested this yet? http://www.parystec.com/ptatsl.htm . Running your virtual world on you Pocket PC
Shinee Jewell: regarding the land auctioning process now
Chase Marellan: Randal: now that's cool.
Torley Linden: *checks out Randal's link*
Daedalus Young: if I had a pocket pc... :P
Chase Marellan: And I'm looking for stuff like that, thanks. :)
Torley Linden: Whoa that looks nifty... I wonder how it works. *reads more*
Torley Linden: Video demos too!
Randal Kline: there is a youtube link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7mAwJgQaN4
Torley Linden: Even more accessible, thanks...
Daedalus Young: looks cool
Torley Linden: HAHA nice narration.
Torley Linden: Randal, you did that vid?
Lyndsey Forager: Torley, I toved your tip about moving minimised windows, very very handy
Randal Kline: nope :)
Simon Kline: http://metaversed.com/09-jul-2007/ajaxlife-second-life-your-web-browser <-- link to story on webpage SL for those that are interested
Torley Linden: You're welcome Lyndsey, I had to share that one after Benjamin Linden and I opened our eyes WIDE that we could do that, haha... I think Daedalus was there too.
ROMSEY Homewood: Q?. Why are the scripts limited to 31 prims, i.e. my motorbike? can i get scripts for bigger prim items?
Randal Kline: came across it when bored earlier
Torley Linden: Randal: Ah... I'd like to give proper attribution if I decide to share this vid around the office. =)
Daedalus Young: yes, I remember
Daedalus Young: came up in triage
Daedalus Young: because the build window acted weird when moving
Torley Linden: Yup, you prolific bug reporter, you.
Torley Linden: ROMSEY: Specifically, that's a linkset of physical objects -- non-physical ones can be up to 255 currently.
Daedalus Young: teehee
ROMSEY Homewood: ta!
KirstenLee Cinquetti: its a havok thing innit
Igel Hawks: back
KirstenLee Cinquetti: tell ya what i would like to see is a resident comp to make new linden trees ^^
Torley Linden: We are, however, continuing to work on Havok 4 -- I haven't heard that the link limit will be upped, but I know one of the biggest requests for many-primmed vehicles is obviously to make more realistic-looking stuff (albeit, that may have a harder time crossing region borders).
KirstenLee Cinquetti: we had the same ole trees since 04 at least
Wolfie Waves: Hey guys :)
Daedalus Young: hi
Shinee Jewell: hey Wolfie
Marc Blessed: Hi ! Its my first day here on sl
Lyndsey Forager: hope you like that picture torley
Torley Linden: Kirsten: I'd like to see something like that too, or more trees. I get tired seeing the same ones so often, I really like some of the flexi ones Residents have made... Lilith Heart, for example.
Lyndsey Forager gave you Saltire on the eiffel tower.
Chase Marellan: She's got great stuff.
ROMSEY Homewood: I made a softail Harley, really nice, 100 prims though!
Torley Linden: *looks*
Lyndsey Forager: hiya marc, hope you haVE lots and lots of fun here
Torley Linden: Hey Marc, welcome to Second Life!
Torley Linden: Heya Wolfie!
Chase Marellan: We did our whole place with her plants.
Torley Linden: Good to have ya here.
Randal Kline: lyndsey: who planted that lol
KirstenLee Cinquetti: indeed thing is there only 1 prim too, some everyone wins
Wolfie Waves: Hey Torley, nice to see you again :)
Lyndsey Forager: cookiedianne rhode
Marc Blessed: thx-a-lot :)
Lyndsey Forager: she was screaming at the telly when the scotland goal went in
Wolfie Waves: And thanks for fixing my multiple system folders problem last week :)
Torley Linden: You're welcome!
Wolfie Waves: ^.^
Angsty Rossini: Marc, I think you can sit on one of the cushions back here :)
Torley Linden: Yes, feel free to have a seat.
JetZep Zabelin: hehe
Shinee Jewell: generally I've been finding SL has been more stable the last week
Marc Blessed: sorry JetZep Zabelin
JetZep Zabelin: np
Shinee Jewell: less funny things happening
Lyndsey Forager: ah, to be new, and see sl with fresh eyes, its a lovely thing
Daedalus Young: yes, I'm having the same experience Shinee
Daedalus Young: used to be crashier than it is now
Shinee Jewell: especially since we haven't had a new build for a while
Daedalus Young: even before I used the rcs
Wolfie Waves: So Torley, what's the news on WindLight this week that isn't already in your Wiki page? :)
Shinee Jewell: and I'm using voice more often
Chase Marellan: I never noticed the crashes when I was new.
Igel Hawks: the lag gets more the last days I would say
Chase Marellan: I think I just wasn't stressing the system. :)
Torley Linden: Haha we're anxious aren't we Wolfie? Whenever I get new info I pretty much add it there.
Shinee Jewell: lag comes and goes
Shinee Jewell: it's not constantly high
Torley Linden: AKA http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
Daedalus Young: lag happens
Shinee Jewell: and rarely server side
Torley Linden: Doing those updates has been kind of experimental but I know there's been such a demand for them, so I was like, "Alright! I'll do 'em". :)
Dizzy Banjo: howdy folks
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Chase Marellan: Howdy!
Torley Linden: I actually hope more Lindens would do updates like that if they had the time + interest...
Torley Linden: Howdy!
Shinee Jewell: it's Miximillion Kleenes rez day so I've been to a few of his gigs this week
Igel Hawks: Hi Dizzy
Dizzy Banjo: sorry im late ;)
Torley Linden: Oh, well one thing I gotta add... some of the current WindLight UI looks like http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/1373232878/
Shinee Jewell: we crashed a sim with 81 avs
Igel Hawks: and the griefers on 9/11 where really bad
Torley Linden: I haven't added that to the page yet.
Lyndsey Forager: Torly, did you hand draw "jennykind" and post process it?
Shinee Jewell: good crowd
Daedalus Young: ooh yes, I saw it
Torley Linden: Sadly I've seen a lot of particle spam griefing lately.
Torley Linden: Lyndsey: I drew that all on ArtRage in the computer. #2 will be hand-drawn and computer-colored tho.
Daedalus Young: there was a gridwide spam attack on 9/11 I heard
Shinee Jewell: used to be 30 would crash a sim not over 50
Igel Hawks: They crashed a sim of a club where I was dancing four times
Lyndsey Forager: its very cutesie
Torley Linden: Thanks Lyndsey. :)
Igel Hawks: Yeah.
KirstenLee Cinquetti: one thing i was meaning to ask are island owners from europe sited at the colo closest to them , the ping times to SF are aweful compared to mid US
Torley Linden: Havok 4 will make regions more resilient to physics crashes I hope...
Ash Qin: 192ms, not really that bad
Igel Hawks: That's good news .-)
KirstenLee Cinquetti: try a speed test between dallas and SF ash
Torley Linden: I was trying out Havok 4, and rezzed 2,000+ twisted tori and had them all colliding physically, and time dilation was around 0.25 (it shook a fair amount) and I could still delete the objects with relative ease.
KirstenLee Cinquetti: big differences
Wolfie Waves: I'm curious as to how many concurrent lights sources the WL client would be able to render. I hope it can do more than the current 6 at any one time.
Inara Marquette: holas :)
Igel Hawks: Hi Inara
Ash Qin: What is that noise?
Daedalus Young: I once forget to set maximum upload speed at Bittorrent, I had ping times in SL of 3 seconds
Torley Linden: Wolfie: We're still limited to 6 local lights (OpenGL limitation, actually) but, we're investigating other graphical enhancements.
Simon Kline: wow cool testing torley!
Torley Linden: OK, I really should delete the sound prim. :)
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Randal Kline: good idea
Torley Linden: BEGONE! I am finished making the vidtut!
Shinee Jewell: lol thanks Torley
Inara Marquette: max bench usage :)
ROMSEY Homewood: Please!!! :O)
Igel Hawks: would be nice, yeah
Torley Linden: Sorry I didn't do that earlier.
Chase Marellan: :)
Daedalus Young: or scripted so it loops for 10 seconds when touched or something
Shinee Jewell: hehe np
Chase Marellan: I'll stand
Jansen Miles: How many months out, ballparked, is Havok 4?
Torley Linden: For anyone who wondered why that damn sound was playing... http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/09/13/tip-of-the-week-4-how-to-use-beacons-and-highlights/
Torley Linden: That would be wiser Daed, haha.
Shinee Jewell: good practice for us to locate and mute
KirstenLee Cinquetti: LOL
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/13466
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Lyndsey Forager: i was wondering what the noise was
Wolfie Waves: Havok 4?!? I thought Havoks current version was 3.
Torley Linden: Jansen: I don't have times on that, we don't wanna jinx things ;) but Sidewinder Linden is project managing it, Andrew Linden is lead dev on it... we are pretty close to a public beta I HOPE. But I don't want to pin it to a specific time and have that delayed, 'cause that'd just be sadness/madness!
Whimsy Winx gave you Coldas 14.
Daedalus Young: ahh, I understand the issue beacon/highlight not off at the same time
Daedalus Young: of course we have ctrl-n for that
Wolfie Waves: Is Havok 4 coming to SL? You sure got my attention
Lyndsey Forager: Im so happy ETD is back open - although the lag is something to be seen - quite amazing
Torley Linden: Wolfie: Yes, it is.
Randal Kline: what about a list of lindens and their portfolios?
Chase Marellan: Any word on HTML on a prim?
Wolfie Waves: Sweet
Jansen Miles: Havok 4: The Second Life Edition. Top secret Apollo project at Havok.
Torley Linden: Chase: Not in particular, no. I don't have specific info about that.
Torley Linden: I know it's gruelling to hope for something for so long...
Daedalus Young: speaking of Apollo, if you can get a Rover to the Moon, Google will pay you 20 million dollar
Dizzy Banjo would love to see html , and hence.. loads of music on prims
KirstenLee Cinquetti: yes since 04 ...
Wolfie Waves: But... will it be anothing like the promise of Havok 2? After that never happening I kinda try not to get my hopes up
Shinee Jewell: can it be SL moon?
Simon Kline: hehe i saw that Daed and gigled
Ash Qin: havok 2 was promised back in 1.4 if I recall
Daedalus Young: just thing how much L$ that is! :o
Jansen Miles: I could get a rover to Google Moon, using the API.
Chase Marellan: hahahahaa....
Simon Kline: LOLOL
Daedalus Young: if we make a Moon region, with correct Moon physics, will that count?
Randal Kline: film it in sl and send a copy to G
Torley Linden: Yes, it is true Havok has been a LONG time in coming.
Simon Kline: hahahhahaa
Shinee Jewell: I think that should be sufficient
Torley Linden: But, the difference now, is I have actually tried Havok 4 for myself...
Torley Linden: an internal version.
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/13467
Shinee Jewell: this place is more RL every day
Torley Linden: So I know it exists.
Daedalus Young: cool
Torley Linden: Randal: Portfolio?
Dizzy Banjo: Torley, alot of development time seems to be going into the visual / physics / stability aspects of SL at the moment - do you think there will be any time put into expanding the platforms ability to deal with in world audio soon ?
Igel Hawks: We all will see us playing Duke Nukem Forever in SL using Havok4 some day ...
Igel Hawks giggles
Wolfie Waves: Lol
Daedalus Young: that would be fun
Torley Linden: I know our Governance Team has tried to stress-test Havok 4 too.
Ash Qin: I heard just last year, they were working on Duke Nukem forever
Randal Kline: torley: which linden is taking charge of which project(s) etc
Daedalus Young: SL does provide a great platform for game designers though
Torley Linden: Dizzy: We currently don't have any specific dev resources allocated to big audio projects (aside from Voice), but someday, I hope we do.
Daedalus Young: I have yet to see some game region
Torley Linden: Randal: I agree that'd be useful. A related question is on my personal FAQ... a "Who Does What" for the public would be great.
Torley Linden: I am not sure how many would participate.
Wolfie Waves: I wonder what progress has been made on llTeleportAgent()
KirstenLee Cinquetti: i just smile when i read the source and see bits like { /TODO }
Ash Qin: Uh, isn't voice being handled by another company?
Randal Kline: force them to update :P
Torley Linden: I wish we could copy over parts of our internal "Who Does What" that aren't private or anything.
Chase Marellan: Yeah, I'd love to see llTeleportAgent()
Daedalus Young: where you can just buy ammo and health for a few L$, I bet it'd be popular :P
Ash Qin: When is the Linux binary blob comming out anyway?
Torley Linden: Ash: Vivox, they're our partner in this... we work with them on it.
Torley Linden: Chase: Yeah, that one's a long one too, that was supposed to be in 1.8 I think.
Wolfie Waves: We are dying for llTeleportAgent for our Stargates so that you only have to walk through to teleport
Chase Marellan: There's a whole game system for SL, DCS, I think it's called.
Wolfie Waves: That is our dream hehe
Daedalus Young: cool Chase
Chase Marellan: I ran into it on SLExchange. I think I have a LM ...
Dizzy Banjo: Im thinking of trying to get together a group of people that are specifically trying to do "difficult" things with in game audio.. existing pioneers such as Adam Ramona etc.. it would be realy helpful i think to pool all that knowledge and maybe talk with you guys about ideas and possibilties
Torley Linden: I haven't checked on the latest status of Voice client on Linux -- Tofu Linden (really knowledgeable about Linux) would know more.
Torley Linden: Dizzy: I'm not familiar with Adam's work yet but it sounds like I should be... what has he done?
Torley Linden: And as always, everyone, if you have cool landmarks for places I should visit inworld, please send them my way!
Dizzy Banjo: its all over at a place called Ramonia
Dizzy Banjo: ill throw you a LM torley
Dizzy Banjo: you would LOVE it
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Torley Linden: Oh great, I was hoping for that. Har har har.
Chase Marellan: I found the DCS landmark, let me know who wants it
Dizzy Banjo gave you Ramonia - Garden of Immersive So, Marni (203, 204, 22).
Daedalus Young: ah, we should have icon particles when people give stuff to eachother
Dizzy Banjo: it blew my mind
Torley Linden: *collects landmarks*
Torley Linden: I thought we did, Daed? At least the selection beam?
Shinee Jewell gave you Simon on his side.
KirstenLee Cinquetti: hehe micheal linden bought stuff from my store while he was building a road thru, st lion talk about passing trade :D
Daedalus Young: yes, the standard particles, true
Jansen Miles How is it that the viewer is now open sourced, but there are proprietary technologies like Havok in there? How does that work? I'm wondering because I have my eye on other 3rd party technologies that would be good for SL.
Torley Linden: Haha Kirsten, sounds like a good road story.
Torley Linden: Jansen: That is primarily because the VIEWER is open-sourced but the SERVER is not.
KirstenLee Cinquetti: made me smile
Torley Linden: Havok is on the server-side.
Jansen Miles: Hmm. Got it.
Torley Linden: We are open to possibilities.
Wolfie Waves: OpenOcean, I'd like to see that
Torley Linden: A good question! There are all sorts of intriguing licensing issues that bubble up with Open Source...
Dizzy Banjo: i bet.. lol
Wolfie Waves: Where you can go out onto the void between sims
Wolfie Waves: In boats etc
Torley Linden: Haha... yeah, if only we had enough simulators to run all those places.
Daedalus Young: a very lightweight sim
Wolfie Waves: And any sims that are set to private simply would not be connected to the OpenOcean and just appear as an empty space... more ocean :p
Torley Linden: Frustrates me when I try to fly across and I'm like "NOOOO! BLOCKED! REJECTED!"
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Chase Marellan: :)
Daedalus Young: I'd like a huge ship
Jansen Miles: Well, you know how Oblivion's forests look so spectacular? It's because they use a 3rd party library called SpeedTree. http://www.speedtree.com/
Daedalus Young: for on the ocean
KirstenLee Cinquetti: ok if we cant sail it would be nice to see my nieghbouring islands, i can pan my camera that far
Daedalus Young: Second Ocean
Torley Linden: Jansen: We've been hoping to get SpeedTree into SL since 2005 but not more movement on that front yet...
Torley Linden: I would hope WindLight facilitates it, performance willing.
Jansen Miles: Fantastic. I'm glad to hear somebody's thinking about it.
Torley Linden: Since the current Linden trees look so flat in WindLight!
Wolfie Waves: Maybe SpeedTree will be next on the list after WindLight
Chase Marellan: Kirsten: why can't you sail on ocean sims?
Torley Linden: WindLight really makes good content shine and exposes flaws in poorly-made content.
Jansen Miles: It would change the feel of SL completely.
Dizzy Banjo: oo thats interesting.. im working on the latest stages of the Visit Mexico sim.. they want to build a rainforest..
Chase Marellan: Torley: that's a little scary
Wolfie Waves: Speaking of which.... any idea on a possible FirstLook WL client? Hint hint :p
Daedalus Young: and don't forget about SoundBorb, love to see something like that built in
KirstenLee Cinquetti: oh i tried the cube map relections and render glow
KirstenLee Cinquetti: very cool
Torley Linden: Wolfie: Yes, the re-release will hopefully be in a few weeks. *crosses fingers*
Wolfie Waves: RenderGlow is sweet. I have it on all the time
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Wolfie Waves crosses his fingers too ^.^
ROMSEY Homewood: does anyone run SL in Vista?
Torley Linden: Hmmm I am noticing a lot of blinking nametags here. Maybe this is a WindLight-specific bug (I'm on the WL viewer).
Dizzy Banjo: something like soundbord would be really great
Torley Linden: We've had some odd occlusion culling bugs.
Dizzy Banjo: borb*
Jansen Miles: I've ONLY ever run SL in Vista.
Torley Linden: I like trying out fun tools that change the way I work.
Daedalus Young: stupid z-buffer :P
ROMSEY Homewood: no problems then?
Wolfie Waves: Vista? Ha, I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole :p
Jansen Miles: Nope.
ROMSEY Homewood: hehe!
ROMSEY Homewood: most ppl say that!
Wolfie Waves: Least not until SP1
Ash Qin: Vista doesn't run on my vista-ready hardware :(
Torley Linden: I have Vista running on another computer here, my older one.
Torley Linden: It has been a mixed experience for me, with some parts joy, many parts despair or wondering what was supposed to be "better".
Jansen Miles: Ran it on an Athlon 64 with an NVIDIA 6600, and now a Core Duo quad with an NVIDIA 8800.
Daedalus Young: I run Mac OS X, the closest you can get to Vista :P
JetZep Zabelin: Torley, do u know if windlight will give us control of the appearance of watersurfaces?
Torley Linden: I wish I could run Mac OS X easier on my Intel Q6600... I know there are homebrew ways to do it, I haven't gotten into them.
Wolfie Waves: OSX ownes Vista, especially Leopard
Torley Linden: JetZep: Yes, it does. That is confirmed.
Daedalus Young: though I recently saw a Vista screenshot and I thought it was Linux
JetZep Zabelin: oh cool
Torley Linden: You can change the normal map of water...
ROMSEY Homewood: SL runs okay but i cant compare WinXP as i joined after i got the new one
Torley Linden: and we're planning to do that for the sky (clouds) too.
Jansen Miles: Oh, Vista itself is like a retarded child. Requires a ton of babysitting. But it will get much better with the SPs, I'm sure.
Ash Qin: Torley, it's likely you won't get 3d acceleration
JetZep Zabelin: nice
ROMSEY Homewood: hope so!
Torley Linden: JetZep: If you want more details, http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden/Project_updates
Torley Linden: How do you mean, Ash?
JetZep Zabelin: yes, thank you
Jansen Miles: But SL runs very nice under it. And if your video driver crashes, it doesn't take the whole machine down anymore.
Lyndsey Forager: sorry, nasty vista crash, im back
Daedalus Young: ah
Torley Linden: Ack, timing!
Rock Pond Pose ball: llStopAnimation: Script trying to stop animations but agent not found
ROMSEY Homewood: true!
Wolfie Waves: Lol
Randal Kline: lol
Jansen Miles: Usually. :)
Daedalus Young: we were just talking about Vista
Wolfie Waves: See what I mean, Vista sucks :p
Dizzy Banjo: ive had seemingly random issues with appearance with vista.. but not much else.. saying that ive only used it with SL once
Lyndsey Forager: lol, vista, you love it and hate it
Ash Qin: I've ran patched versions of OS X on normal x86 hardware. Unfortunately it seems I can't get 3d acceleration to work.. even with cards I took out of real macs and stuck into the regularx86 system
ROMSEY Homewood: and there was me thinking it would solve all my problems!!! :O)
Randal Kline: lyndsey: go buy lottery
Lyndsey Forager: ha ha
Jansen Miles: Well, I'm pretty new to SL, and I waited until I had my machine cut over to Vista before I installed it for the first time. It's all I know.
Wolfie Waves: Ok Torley, here is what I was talking about when I mentioned OpenOcean http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-463
Lyndsey Forager: i think vista is pretty, but it easts memorey and is painfully slow
Torley Linden: Ash: Ahhh. Ack, that's harsh. :\
KirstenLee Cinquetti: forget vista just make a live CD linux distro called secondlinux - that is a OS + SL all in one ^^
Torley Linden: Good to know tho, Ash, thanks for sharing your experience.
ROMSEY Homewood: running 3GB ram but still have all the pretties turned off!
ROMSEY Homewood: setting up Ubuntu this weekend!
Ash Qin doesn't run SL on Linux anymore since there is no voice support.
Jansen Miles: Lyndsey: Vista wants you to buy a new computer. You can see it in Vista's eyes. The pleading.
KirstenLee Cinquetti: heck you get christian linux, etc
KirstenLee Cinquetti: why not secondlife linux
Dizzy Banjo: lol jansen
Torley Linden: Wolfie: Ahh... yeah, I don't quite see how technically feasible that is, but I know how it could be useful.
Ash Qin: Despite the fact it does seem to run a little better.
Torley Linden: Jansen: Ha! There's a quote!
Lyndsey Forager: lol, but vista isnt going to fork out hte cash
ROMSEY Homewood: Well ill just have to live in hope with Vista
Lyndsey Forager: and vista on my lappy, it HATES sl, the paint of memory hungry wild dogs
Torley Linden: I reckon I'll wait until Vista gets more stable.
Torley Linden: And has more support for drivers.
Wolfie Waves: Hehe Torley, I'm sure you guys will figure it out sometime in the future :)
ROMSEY Homewood: i would! can't recommend it
Jansen Miles: I run SL on Vista on my old laptop too. Slow frame rate, but I survive. Somehow.
Lyndsey Forager: all moy computers are vista, and sometimes i crave xp
Torley Linden: We're still doing Vista compatibility testing with Second Life, but in general it should be fine as long as you make sure to get the right graphics drivers.
Ash Qin: In all seriousness, is there any point to forking Linux? Wouldn't it be easier just to make generic packages for ubuntu/debian/mepis, redhat/mandriva/suse etc?
blogHUD Messenger: someone called 'Koz Farina' has posted a comment to a blogHUD post by you : see http://bloghud.com/id/13467
Jansen Miles: Well, my main machine is dual boot XP/Vista.
ROMSEY Homewood: WinXP pro was/ is great!
ROMSEY Homewood: eventually!!!
KirstenLee Cinquetti: ahh Vista, the windows Me 2007 edition
Lyndsey Forager: lol, I have windows ME
ROMSEY Homewood: haha
Torley Linden: Hahaha the comparisons keep getting more brutal!
Wolfie Waves: Oh god, I just remembered something that really annoyed me. Has anyone seen that chinese rip off version of SL, HipHi
Lyndsey Forager: i mean i had it
Torley Linden: Vista just ain't getting love!
Torley Linden: Wolfie: Yes. <.<
Daedalus Young: I used to have WinME
ROMSEY Homewood: maybe i shouldnt have mentioned Vista! hehe!
Daedalus Young: it's buried under a pile of papers now
ROMSEY Homewood: dirty word!
Torley Linden: They ripped off our old website design too, we changed it so let's see if they copied the newest. PROOF! http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/1194644035/
Wolfie Waves: I noticed :(
Ash Qin: Haha
Wolfie Waves: Even your tag line
JetZep Zabelin: lol
Jansen Miles: Eh. I have a stack of reproducible Vista bugs here that I'm waiting to find the time to submit to MS.
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Lyndsey Forager: really sad, i like exploring other mmo type worlds, i wouldnt WANT another sl, i like variety
Torley Linden: Yah, I wanna see new things brought to the table.
Torley Linden: I originally came to SL seeking cyberpunk stuff...
ROMSEY Homewood: i was hoping they would sort themselves out.
Wolfie Waves: "Imagined and created by its residents" they taxed that too
Torley Linden: I'd love to see online worlds with emphasis on other senses, like better sound (online worlds in general have sound as sort of an afterthought), or even explorations into haptics (not likely to be widespread for years to come, tho)...
Torley Linden: Yeah Wolfie, haha, what bugs me is they used the word "Residents".
Dizzy Banjo: things like multiverse, ogoglio etc are going to be interesting
Lyndsey Forager: funny though, when i explore other world, i usually call my av "Lyndsey Forager" - its kinda stuck
Torley Linden: I mean, gosh, there are SO many other words to choose from, that ain't a coincidence.
Dizzy Banjo: i absolutely agree Torley
ROMSEY Homewood: Entropia Universe?
Torley Linden: So if we get more devs looking at rearchitecturing our sound, count on me to be onboard with that, muahha.
Wolfie Waves: I wonder how much of SLs opensouce client code they nicked too
Dizzy Banjo: the soundscape of virtual worlds is very poor at the moment
JetZep Zabelin: well someone was inspired enough to copy ;)
Dizzy Banjo: however .. game words really get it
Torley Linden: I come from a background in audio engineering so I'm biased.
Dizzy Banjo: worlds*
Torley Linden: JetZep: Well, you know what they say about flattery!
Dizzy Banjo: well its what im here to do
Torley Linden: Dizzy: What are some places you think "really get it".
Torley Linden: I mean that with a question mark "?" ;)
Jansen Miles: I'm mostly interested in improvements that will increase the verisimilitude of Second Life. For instance, we need bump mapping, HDR lighting, more advanced source lighting and shadows.
KirstenLee Cinquetti: and ill need a new Pc
Dizzy Banjo: well .. i hate to say it.. but even places like WoW get it really
ROMSEY Homewood: i just want something that wont crash 5 times a day!
Daedalus Young: and raytracing and ior glass and and and ... :P
Wolfie Waves: I think real time shadows are in WindLight
Daedalus Young: I heard about WL shadows too yes
Lyndsey Forager: i loved vSide, not so keen on kaneva
Daedalus Young: and I heard about directional lighting
Ash Qin: I'm mostly interested in making SL more stable. It's stupid that griefers can get away with just doing something simple like copying a popgun script 254 tiems into a prim, take it, then rez it three times in a sim to crash it
Dizzy Banjo: i think its the fact those environments are working within the realm of expectation of normal client side only games
Wolfie Waves: Hmm, how real time reflections, like a perfect mirror? Is that in WindLight?
Jansen Miles: Well, note that the technologies I mentioned are just the ones that have been in good games for three or four years.
Ash Qin: Or how they can crash the sim by sticking a tortured sphere into the ground
Patchouli Woollahra: Tortured sphere?
Dizzy Banjo: music and sound is just so important to immersion..
Wolfie Waves: I mean come one, low and consoles can do real reflections
Dizzy Banjo: to me.. SL is a silent movie at the moment
Wolfie Waves: low end^
Torley Linden: Ash: Yeah, those kind of bugs, we definitely have to fix -- physics crashes should be ameliorated with Havok 4, and others that have solid repros, we can gun down too.
Patchouli Woollahra: That takes too long. Terribly Twisted Torii are better for gridcrashing via physics.
Ash Qin: Pat, something that's been skewed a lot, hollow etc.
Lyndsey Forager: Hiya Marianne
Torley Linden: Dizzy: I feel the same way!
Marianne McCann: Hiya
Torley Linden: Heyhey!
Patchouli Woollahra: Dizzy: Someone hasn't been to Shermerville Central :(
Daedalus Young: hi
Wolfie Waves eeps!
Marianne McCann: Hey TOrley!
JetZep Zabelin: I came to Sl because my background is architecture
KirstenLee Cinquetti: thx to Dan and Qarl i submmitted a couple of those nasty greifer tricks for sim crashes, they no longer work ^^
ROMSEY Homewood: Hi!
Torley Linden: I'm glad you did, Kirsten.
Ash Qin: Or by creating really primmy objects and rezzing, derezzing them so fast, that the time dialation goes down to nearly 0, at some point that triggers the sim to restart or something
Patchouli Woollahra: Btw, whose bright idea was it to put Boozehound and Bimbogami in hte SLurname list?
Jansen Miles: It especially feels like a silent movie with that piano playing. ;)
Patchouli Woollahra: Allow me to ruin your immersion.
Torley Linden: I like those wonky, out-of-tune pianos. They have "character".
Ash Qin: These are such simple things todo, and it's annoying that sims are so fragile in this aspect
JetZep Zabelin: lol
Torley Linden: Patch, is that a fishing pole?
Patchouli Woollahra: Yes, yes it is.
Torley Linden: Or just a really big freakin' stick?
Patchouli Woollahra was fishing for fish.
Daedalus Young: Boozehound?
Patchouli Woollahra: Yes, Boozehound is now a selectable name.
Patchouli Woollahra: So is Bimbogami.
Marianne McCann: DUn make me pull out my level 25 fishin rod, Patch
Patchouli Woollahra: So naturally, someone decided to come in as...
Marianne McCann giggles
Patchouli Woollahra: BlondHaired Bimbogami.
Wolfie Waves: I'd like to see a few more geometric shapes as new prims. Yeah we have sculpties but they are very limited
Lyndsey Forager: lol
Daedalus Young: ah yes, I see a lot in the search already
Randal Kline: by the way, anyone seen a pocoyo avatar around in sl?
Jansen Miles: When I was five, my father angered my grandmother by sticking tacks into the hammers of her 19th c upright piano to make a honky tonk piano.
Torley Linden: Wolfie: Explain more?
Patchouli Woollahra: It's just the resolution that's a problem.
Wolfie Waves: A perfect hexagon shaped tube would be great
Torley Linden: Hahah Jansen, oh my gosh. How did that end up going?
Torley Linden: What's a Pocoyo?
Daedalus Young: my piano is terrible out of tune. that counts too?
Lyndsey Forager: pocoyo, kids cartoon
Jansen Miles: I was five. I just remember the weird sounding piano, and my grandmother's anger.
Wolfie Waves: Means you can make a hexagon from one prim instead of 2 cubes
JetZep Zabelin: Oh yes, better prims, and boolean operations :) how about nested linking...
Randal Kline: http://www.pocoyo.com/
Torley Linden: *makes a note to check it out*
Jansen Miles: Oops. I was four.
Torley Linden: Daed: Sometimes that's good for industrial music, or creepy film scores.
Torley Linden: Jansen: Whoa.
Patchouli Woollahra: JetZep: have you seen the cost of Boolean operations?
Daedalus Young: oh yes, that's true
Torley Linden: CSG!
Lyndsey Forager: Torley, pocoyo is such a cute animation
Wolfie Waves: Would be nice to choose where you want to cut a prim, where to place the hollow hole etc
Wolfie Waves: Instead of preset locations
Patchouli Woollahra: True... but I don't imagine it would be very realtime.
Dizzy Banjo: Zero Linden tells me that the fundamental architecture and bandwidth issues of the SL platform cant support a more immersive audio environment .. say with longer , better controlled audio streams.. do you think that is the case Torley ? or is it just a scaling issue with more servers for audio content ?..
Daedalus Young: at least it's a real piano, rather than some perfect midi instrument
Marianne McCann: Ya, dat would be great, Wolfie. Also better bumpmapping options, too
Wolfie Waves: Yeah
Patchouli Woollahra: it takes time to preload any form of multimedia.
Wolfie Waves: Or the ability to upload your own bumpmaps
Dizzy Banjo: there is a great discussion going on about MIDI in SL over on the music development mailing list
Patchouli Woollahra: and the problem with audio, unlike images, is that temporary stops in loading manifest as stuttering.
Torley Linden: Dizzy: Zero sure knows his stuff on that, so I'd go with what he says -- and I also think there are possibilities we haven't explored yet, tho. It seems to me some fresh approaches would be welcome.
Lyndsey Forager: i would love to be able to upload .gif, for transparancy and animation
JetZep Zabelin: how about clickable gifmaps /scripting per prim face? :)
Daedalus Young: that would work, the usual high prim builds have more data in them than a midi file
Dizzy Banjo: http://dizzybanjo.wordpress.com/ summarised here ...
Torley Linden: I think as bandwidth increases and computers get more powerful, we'll easily see richer content.
Patchouli Woollahra: which is decidedly more unpleasant than blurry images.
Jansen Miles: Well, fact is, prims are not sustainable. If we every want true verisimilitude, it WON'T be because we're still modeling with prims.
Wolfie Waves: I don't think SL supports antialiasing either, least I have not seen it in the prefs
Wolfie Waves: That would be nice
JetZep Zabelin: Thats right Torley
Torley Linden: Remember what Philip said about graphics cards like the GeForce MX2 being an enabler for Second Life, even at a lower level...
Torley Linden: and computers will keep getting better.
Torley Linden: We'll look back and laugh at how primitive all of this is today.
KirstenLee Cinquetti: put a soundset into the viewer and then lsl to call those sounds
Alteran PDA: Couldn't find script Control Crystal
Alteran PDA: Couldn't find script Dialog Name List Crystal
Alteran PDA: Couldn't find script Flight Enhancer Crystal
Alteran PDA: Couldn't find script Item Rezzer Crystal
Marianne McCann: I'm actually more concerned over issues like ARs and such right now, m'self
Alteran PDA: Couldn't find script Lifesigns Crystal
KirstenLee Cinquetti: that would be nice
Alteran PDA: Couldn't find script Listen Crystal
Patchouli Woollahra: Torley: agreed. I think the point with our multimedia being this limited is partly due to 2003 constraints and due to ensuring there's no such thing as an unusually large piece of mm.
Alteran PDA: Couldn't find script Scan Area Crystal
Daedalus Young: antialiasing is a card thing, if I'm correct
Alteran PDA: Couldn't find script Settings Notecard Reader Crystal
Alteran PDA: Couldn't find script Sound Crystal
Jansen Miles: At some point SL will need to support NURB meshes.
Wolfie Waves: Hey Pete :)
Marianne McCann: (But dun get me started on the avatar mesh!)
Patchouli Woollahra: Jansen: aw you gotta be kidding me.
Jansen Miles: Quite. No.
Patchouli Woollahra: Have you seen the cost of real-time nurbs?
Lyndsey Forager: it would be cool to stream youtube into sl
Daedalus Young: or simply obj files
JetZep Zabelin: Torley, its not cyberpunk, but can i send u a texture of a painting it did
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Jansen Miles: No. no.
Patchouli Woollahra: People, stop wishing for SL to support formats that are clearly bandwidth unfriendly!
Randal Kline: m.youtube?
Jansen Miles: NURBS for modeling. They're baked to polys for rendering.
Torley Linden: Lyndsey: Yeah, YouTube is Flash, so if we get HTML-on-a-prim (I use the general term here) including latest Flash playback, then we could do that easily.
Torley Linden: There are things that work well on non-networked computers but distributed across networks, are poor.
Daedalus Young: hm well, I disregard bandwidth issues when I look way into the future anyway :P
Patchouli Woollahra: that's partly what I do with sculptmaps in Lightwave.
Dizzy Banjo: I think so too.. but until that time.. im fiddling around hijacking the voice technology and doing some interesting things with it to create soundscapes.. id like to invite you all over once i get it running :)

Vixens Populated Female AO: Couldn't find animation lift_off
Vixens Populated Female AO: Couldn't find animation lift_off
Torley Linden: We can stream video, but the bandwidth of those streams is generally limited, e.g., we won't be playing Blu-Ray quality films through SL yet!
Vixens Populated Female AO: Couldn't find animation standing_19
Jansen Miles: I'm not talking a year out, or four years out. I'm talking about true verisimilitude, as in "looks absolutely real". 10 or 14 years out.
Patchouli Woollahra: In the long term, everyone will have enough cheap bandwidth to run Second LIfe into their home 24/7 from at least a fixed position.
Daedalus Young: I'm not saying I want the issues tomorrow, it's to me a vision over some decades
Daedalus Young: ooh, chatlag
Patchouli Woollahra: Who wants absolutely real?
Jansen Miles: At that point, if we're still worrying about bandwidth, then somebody has really fallen down.
Patchouli Woollahra: Some days, I find Patch Lamington charming.
JetZep Zabelin: i think a lot of ppl do
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Vixens Populated Female AO: Couldn't find animation standing_19
Patchouli Woollahra: Jansen: That would be Telstra, yes.
KirstenLee Cinquetti: no thx im trying to avoid real ^^
Randal Kline: lol
Daedalus Young: we will always have bandwidth problems
Patchouli Woollahra: You're saying that in a room full of foxes.
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Torley Linden: "Bandwidth, like water..."
Wolfie Waves: :p
Dizzy Banjo: yeh what is it about your office hours and foxes Torley ? lol
Torley Linden: THE SPICE MUST FLOW!
Daedalus Young: even if you'd be on a 1TBps line, the amount of data would've grown too
Torley Linden: Dizzy, not sure what you mean? :)
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Patchouli Woollahra: BTW, has anyone tried visiting Chillah Island?
Jansen Miles: Like we will always be worried about fitting our files into our tiny harddrives? I just put another 2.4 TB online in my home machine.
Randal Kline: sl p2p version?
Daedalus Young: yes, harddrives are always too small
Torley Linden: Everyone is free to choose their avatar. =)
Ash Qin: p2p doesan't save storage space
Patchouli Woollahra: There is no conspiracy in action, Dizzy.
Daedalus Young: for some odd reason
Torley Linden: Patch: Not yet, but send me a landmark if you got one, or I'll make a note.
Ash Qin: and that requires more bandwith from the users who are alraedy limited
Dizzy Banjo: lol hey.. im only messin ;)
Wolfie Waves: I say we get Torley a green and pink fox avatar :p
Torley Linden: Hard drives have fallen in price SO much, OMG!
Torley Linden: Dizzy: Haha... ;)
Marianne McCann: My friend Robin jes upgraded to a 1TB... an I'm strongly debating the same. Mostly for SL content creation!
Torley Linden: I don't have a fox av yet.
Daedalus Young: I can remember we only had 720 kB to work with per diskette
JetZep Zabelin: they're free :)
Igel Hawks: Back. Damn silent crash
Patchouli Woollahra: Try looking at the fennecs at Luskwood.
KirstenLee Cinquetti: to accurately mimic a human mind you need approxiamtly 10TB of storage
Daedalus Young: that was more than enough, we had 100s of games on one disk
Patchouli Woollahra: They're extremely expressive by furry standards.
Marianne McCann: Wolfie - I'm still tryin' to get Torley into a kid avvie!
Torley Linden: Fennecs are SO cute, love the ears.
Marianne McCann giggles
Ash Qin remembers having 2mb to work with... Love amiga
Wolfie Waves: Lol
KirstenLee Cinquetti: the human eye 127mega pixel
Torley Linden: Haha so many to choose from.
Jansen Miles: Daedalus: Then in a few years you'll say "I can remember the days when we only got transfer speeds of 1 MB/s."
JetZep Zabelin gave you Artwork original by JetZep.
Daedalus Young: haha yes jansen
KirstenLee Cinquetti: chatter 100bps max
Patchouli Woollahra: That notecard was passed around in SL Mentors.
Torley Linden: Thanks for the incoming goodies! *checks it out*
Jansen Miles: Which is what I get today. And if I don't have 500 MB/s in a few years, then, as I said, somebody has fallen down.
Patchouli Woollahra: We'd need to be relatively posthuman to break our current limits on conversation.
Ash Qin: I can remember connecting at 300 baud to a Solaris BBS, that let me connect to big BBSes in the UK for free
Patchouli Woollahra: as it is, we can multitask chats only when we speak by text.
KirstenLee Cinquetti: pattern recognition , near fast as light , were amazin ^^
Marianne McCann: Why can't I run SL on my Mac SE/30 with a 1200 bps modem, anyway?
Wolfie Waves: Torley, you can find fox avatars here in the second floor of the OS Labs building :) *sends LM*
Patchouli Woollahra: Ash: I remember sticking a handset into a funny pair of rubber cups.
Daedalus Young: 300 baud, that's 30 characters per second?
Ash Qin: And then using IRC from a BBS door
Torley Linden: Thanks Wolfie!
Torley Linden: I used to go onto Q-Link via a Commodore 64.
Patchouli Woollahra: Depends, Daedalus, how many bits are you using for handshaking.
Ash Qin: I was so excited when I did that (I was under ten years old)
Jansen Miles: I think 300 transitions/sec? Not characters?
Daedalus Young: ah of course yes
Torley Linden: My Office Hours tend to have a lot of warm reminiscing. :)
Wolfie Waves gave you OS Labs Mini-mall.
Patchouli Woollahra: Torley has a copy of Habitat I think?
Igel Hawks: hehe
Daedalus Young: I remember it from old MSX magazines
KirstenLee Cinquetti: TRS-80
Torley Linden: Well, I don't have an original disk, Patch, but I would like to try a re-creation of it.
Igel Hawks: C-64
Igel Hawks: NCR-500
Daedalus Young: where it was divided by 10
Marianne McCann: Ah, Q-Link. Now *dat* was forever ago!
KirstenLee Cinquetti: 4 colors onscreen all at the same time ^^
Wolfie Waves: Ohh, I played SL using my projector a few days ago :p
Wolfie Waves: 70" screen hehehe
JetZep Zabelin: hehe cool
Patchouli Woollahra: BTW, if anyone here has DreamCasts, your deadline for renovations and repairs ends this month on the last Friday of the month.
Jansen Miles: My first computer was a 48K Apple ][. You couldn't fit an icon in that space today.
Patchouli Woollahra: or Sega Saturns.
Wolfie Waves: I didn't want to turn it off hehe
Marianne McCann: Dat would be seriou fun, Wolfie. best I've done is on a 20"
Daedalus Young: oh, before I go really large with SL, I'd want motion blur :P
Patchouli Woollahra: Sega's shutting down its lines for good this month.
Ash Qin: My first computer was a amiga 500
JetZep Zabelin: I used an atari 400
Torley Linden: Motion blur would be sweeeeet, I like motion blur in Test Drive Unlimited.
Patchouli Woollahra: Ash Qin: those things were good for working with Lightwave.
Torley Linden: I had an Amiga 500 too!
Wolfie Waves drools at the thought of playing SL with WindLight on an iMax screen ;)
Lyndsey Forager: I had the A500+ ash
Marianne McCann: I want dynamic refraction
KirstenLee Cinquetti: scripting LSL is like my first computer 16k wow :)
Jansen Miles: Second computer: Amiga 1000.
Patchouli Woollahra: Yes, I know there was a toaster, but I didn't care about the Indians.
Dizzy Banjo reminisces about Cubase on Atari
Patchouli Woollahra: Nothing wrong with 16kb-large scriptlets.
Ash Qin: I wasso shocked when I was given a PC later on... A500... Graphical system, windowed environment for DOS and so on.. Then given a PC, which gave me a black screen and a blinking c:>_ prompt
Daedalus Young: 16k is fine
Wolfie Waves: Dynamic reflection? Pah, I want real time mirror reflections :p
Igel Hawks: 64K demos
Patchouli Woollahra: Ash: funny innit?
Ash Qin: With no decent graphic card and so on
Lyndsey Forager: well, must go back to work, see you all
Marianne McCann: Not reflection, refraction
Ash Qin: Not even a soundcard
Torley Linden: Have a good one, Lyndsey!
Patchouli Woollahra: Ash: it turns out that Workbench was doing preemptive multitasking long before Windows.
ROMSEY Homewood: Bye Lyndsey
Jansen Miles: Hmm. Can't mirror reflections be done easily in OpenGL?
Patchouli Woollahra: damn shame really.
Patchouli Woollahra: Well, no.
Patchouli Woollahra: It's a sad joke, really.
Igel Hawks: Bye @all. RL is calling.
Daedalus Young: bye
Marianne McCann: Bye Bye!!
Wolfie Waves: What version of OpenGL does SL rely on?
Chase Marellan: bye
Daedalus Young: say hi to RL
Patchouli Woollahra: OpenGL is only good if you want to write portable 3D rendering code.
Ash Qin: Patchouli, I know that. I was writing in m68k assembler rather quickly after I got my amiga :P
Jansen Miles: Seems like it would be something easy to switch on.
Torley Linden: I'm not sure, Jansen... I do like the effects though...
Igel Hawks: Torley, maybe we will see us in your next hour .-))
Patchouli Woollahra: Torley: we had dynamic reflections during one of the earlier versions of the client.
Torley Linden: WindLight requires a graphics card with at least Shader model 2 support (DirectX 9).
Torley Linden: :)
Patchouli Woollahra: along with dynamic glow.
Torley Linden: Patch: That doesn't work for me anymore on my 8800GTS...
Torley Linden: I know it still works for some.
Jansen Miles: This trick of duplicating all the prims in the room in inverse under a semi-alpha'd floor is horsesh*t. :)
KirstenLee Cinquetti: dang i really got to get a pic-x mobo
Ash Qin: Torley, would you happen to know what OpenGL extensions it uses?
Torley Linden: RenderGlow, however, is being turned into a per-face option come WindLight.
Patchouli Woollahra: The bloom on that was ridiculous.
KirstenLee Cinquetti: pci-x
Torley Linden: Ash: Not offhand, but someone like Runitai Linden (graphics developer) would.
Patchouli Woollahra: I had to wear sunnies.
Patchouli Woollahra gave you Glow - The Future is very bright..
Marianne McCann: Any ETA on it, Torley?
KirstenLee Cinquetti: the ole AGP isnt cutting it anymore
Patchouli Woollahra: AGP is dead. long live AGP.
Patchouli Woollahra: or PCI-X. whatever.
Wolfie Waves noses Torley "Which version of OpenGL does SL mainly use?"
Patchouli Woollahra: Whatever happened to It will come when it's done?
Jansen Miles: I'm finally onto PCI-E. Done wid da AGP.
Torley Linden: Mari: What, WindLight? :) Within a few weeks I hope, I keep updating http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden in the Project Updates section.
Marianne McCann: Cool, Torley. Chompin' at the bit here
Patchouli Woollahra: I hope it gets confirmed soon. I'm tossing my old laptop in favor of a new one.
Torley Linden: Wolfie: I'm not sure about that. At least 1.5 support, minimum, I think, but don't quote me on that.
Patchouli Woollahra: partly to play Bioshock, and partly for Windlight.
Patchouli Woollahra: Also: I'm waiting to play Peggle Extreme.
Ash Qin: Patchouli Woollahra, http://ash-fox.quickfox.org/temp/sun-chase
Marianne McCann: Heck, I'd even take the darn voice stuff jes to get WindLight
Marianne McCann giggles
Torley Linden: BioShock looks awesome, anyone played it?
Dizzy Banjo: Bioshock is a damn good example of an a great audio environment
Torley Linden: BioShock looks like it has massive system requirements.
Ash Qin: That's with Glow and Windlight.
Wolfie Waves: I'm sure OpenGL 2.1 can support multiple light sources, more than 6 anyways
Jansen Miles: Played the demo. Watched lots of gameplay videos.
Dizzy Banjo: thats what i want to do in SL
Jansen Miles: Intend to start it in a few days.
Torley Linden: *looks up Peggle Extreme*
Dizzy Banjo: i run in on a 8800GTS too Torlley
Dizzy Banjo: its fine
Torley Linden: The 8800GTS is a good bang for the buck.
Patchouli Woollahra: It's like Peggle, except that your friendly unicorn is now headcrabbed.
Dizzy Banjo: yeh .. im very happy with it
Jansen Miles: Water looks amazing in Bioshock. They have a water team there.
Wolfie Waves: It could be an option in prefs, if your graphics card/drivers support OGL 2.1, enable the more than 6 lights, else disable it
Patchouli Woollahra: Also: lots of Orange Box-related sounds and art.
Jansen Miles: Seriously, the water will stun you.
Torley Linden: Jansen: I've seen a bit from the YouTube vids but I'm sure that doesn't compare to actual hi-rez.
Patchouli Woollahra: Jansen: even before you let off the electrical plasmid into the water.
Dizzy Banjo: its incredible in full rez
Jansen Miles: Patch: indeed.
Torley Linden: Wolfie: Well, it might be better to make such a thing (if possible) seamless and automatic after hardware auto-detect.
Wolfie Waves nudges Torley to send him the internal build of WindLight to play with :p
Wolfie Waves giggles
Patchouli Woollahra: I saw the video of the first ten minutes into Rapture.
Torley Linden: Our current Graphics Preferences confuses new Residents a lot.
Patchouli Woollahra: It was gorgeous.
Patchouli Woollahra: Torley: ya think?
Marianne McCann giggles
Patchouli Woollahra: Even the network is a problem.
Marianne McCann: Me first, Wolfie!
Patchouli Woollahra: I keep telling them...
Wolfie Waves: MINE O.O
Patchouli Woollahra: DO NOT SLAM THE MAX BANDWIDTH TO THE RIGHT.
Patchouli Woollahra: people are logging in with 1.5mbps ceilings that they clearly cannot sustain.
Torley Linden: We are going to streamline those prefs with a master slider. And let people customize further if they wish, but the main thing here is performance vs. quality.
Patchouli Woollahra: Oh yes... I think I've grown old.
Patchouli Woollahra used to insist on FPS...
Marianne McCann: I usually keep my ettings low, save for when I'm doin piccies
Jansen Miles: So much good stuff coming out. Valve's Orange Box in a couple months. You have GOT to watch the Team Fortress 2 trailers! They're making the game patterned after the production design of The Incredibles. And the trailers are the funniest things I've seen in days. http://orange.half-life2.com/tf2.html
Patchouli Woollahra: ever since SL, I've been saying "You know, I'd like to appreciate the shine."
KirstenLee Cinquetti: as long as the tech stuff is still available, behind the big stoopid sliders ^^
Wolfie Waves: My settings are always on as high as they will go
Patchouli Woollahra: I know... I can't wait for The Engineer Video.
Dizzy Banjo: yes valve are producing stunning work atm too
Wolfie Waves: Incliding RenderGlow
Jansen Miles: Engineer video is out!
Wolfie Waves: And I just just fine
Torley Linden: I've really liked those TF2 trailers, Pastrami Linden told me about them.
ROMSEY Homewood: Lucky Wolfie!
Ash Qin: Valve can use prerendering, SL can't
Torley Linden: I also really, REALLY liked the new Halo 3 promo...
Torley Linden: the one with a diorama.
Torley Linden: Where this old dude reminisces about his war stories.
Dizzy Banjo: yeah.. lol
Patchouli Woollahra: "And that's why whenever a bunch of animals get together now, it's called a zoo!... or a farm."
Wolfie Waves: I have a really nice pic taken with the old WindLight client
Wolfie Waves: Let me find it
Marianne McCann: Wolfie - I'll be featuring some of mine in an inworls show soon
Marianne McCann: inworld*
Patchouli Woollahra: I plead guilty to doing something stupid with Renderglow.
Ash Qin: When you create a map with Half life, the map editor generates all the possible shadows possible when saving, so when the game plays on the maop, it doesn't have todo much logic processing for shadows, since the majority of stuff has already been precalculated.. it's also why it can take forever to save a map
Jansen Miles: In the Team Fortress 2 trailer where the sniper gets taken out by the spy, the look on the spy's face after he does the deed has me rolling on the floor!
Ash Qin: Unfortunately SL doesn't have that option
Torley Linden: Realtime stuff excites me. It's spontaneous.
Daedalus Young: hey, a bell
Bell: Daedalus Young should not have rung the bell - especially not that hard!
Bell: Patchouli Woollahra should not have rung the bell - especially not that hard!
Daedalus Young: heehee
Ash Qin: Yeah, pretty much. SL has todo it all in real time =)
Torley Linden: HAHA, I think of "Tubular Bells".
Torley Linden: Whenever I see a bell!
Daedalus Young: just like those "don't touch!" signs at Caledon
Patchouli Woollahra: non-physical sculptie bell?
Bell: Torley Linden should not have rung the bell - especially not that hard!
Torley Linden rings da bell too.
Torley Linden: DING-DONG!
JetZep Zabelin: lol it shows u.. dont tell ppl not to do something
Patchouli Woollahra: or the man-eating pyramid at Luskwood.
Daedalus Young: you can ring mah bell
Bell: Patchouli Woollahra should not have rung the bell - especially not that hard!
Dizzy Banjo: lol.. oldfield has alot to answer for..
Marianne McCann: Non physical sculptie, ya
Torley Linden: Yeah, Dizzy?
Bell: Randal Kline should not have rung the bell - especially not that hard!
KirstenLee Cinquetti: well i gotta shoot folks, cyas all :)
Marianne McCann: Hey, I like Oldfield!
Torley Linden: Have a good one Kirsten!
Wolfie Waves: That's one of the pics :)
ROMSEY Homewood: Ciao!
KirstenLee Cinquetti: have a good one all!
Wolfie Waves: Behind me
Torley Linden: Oldfield has a new album coming out this Nov. eh? Music of the Spheres.
Dizzy Banjo: yeh.. being a genius for 10 years.. then abandoning it all and singing...
Patchouli Woollahra: Eh, I like Thomas Dolby too.
Jansen Miles: Ash: Not necessarily in real time. A hybrid approach. SL could do "predictive baking". Man, if I worked at LL, I'd be flinging ideas onto every wall.
Torley Linden: I like some of the vocal pieces but I like the long instrumental ones like Amarok best.
Dizzy Banjo: yeh ..
Dizzy Banjo: incantations..
Torley Linden: Jansen: You should definitely talk to some of our current graphics devs then... like Steve, Runitai, Qarl... :)
Marianne McCann: I tink my fave is tubular 2
Patchouli Woollahra has been listening to Rydeen repeatedly while trying to sync Pikachus on a rock band set.
Torley Linden: I like "The Bell" melody when all the instruments are introduced. So grand.
Marianne McCann: Followed by Incantations and Herghest ridge
Torley Linden: Hahaha Patch!
Ash Qin: Jansen, heh, I wouldn't expect the sims todo it, since they already have too many load issues :P
ROMSEY Homewood: havent heard that name for years, Thomas Dolby
Wolfie Waves: This one is a fave of mine :)
Dizzy Banjo: hergest ridge / ommadawn are my faves
Patchouli Woollahra: He had one hit with "She Blinded Me With Science".
Marianne McCann: ROMSEY - It's a shame Dolby went blind
Dizzy Banjo: lol Dolby has really gone off the rails now
Marianne McCann: Science will do dat to ya
ROMSEY Homewood: No! i dint know that
Patchouli Woollahra: But he's always trying to be anti-popular, so his work is quite all over the place.
Torley Linden: Dolby didn't go blind!?
Dizzy Banjo: lol
Torley Linden: I liked his soundtrack to Gate to the Mind's Eye.
Patchouli Woollahra: My fave song from him was "Urges"
Torley Linden: He also had some minor hits like "Hyperactive".
Jansen Miles: Well, it would be server side, but the calculations would only be done irregularly. It would just mean more asset storage, which I know is an issue already. But these are assets that could expire.
Marianne McCann: (Joke, really. he's alive and well!)
Patchouli Woollahra: which should be played in an SL nightclub one of these days.
Torley Linden: And he collaborated with Ryuichi Sakamoto (of Yellow Magic Orchestra "Rydeen" fame) on "Field Work".
Dizzy Banjo: his latest live stuff is quite embarrassing.. i think he was a brilliant producer of other bands inthe 80s though
ROMSEY Homewood: saw him in London about 20 years ago, god it was loud!
Patchouli Woollahra: PFFFT. did you say Ryuichi Sakamoto?
Marianne McCann: I preferred Eroupa and the Pirate Twins" and the "Aliens Ate My Buick" album
Patchouli Woollahra has one of Ryu's albums on her laptop.
Marianne McCann: Europa*
Patchouli Woollahra: I hadn't realised he was a YMO guy.
Torley Linden: Yes Patch.
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: I like that "Pirate Twins" song a lot, so catchy.
Patchouli Woollahra also like Stomp-style music.
Wolfie Waves: That's a nice one too
Marianne McCann: Ya. Great hooks
Patchouli Woollahra: Like The Ballad of Black Mesa.
Dizzy Banjo: http://www.secondsense.biz/PVKIItitlemusic.mp3
Torley Linden: Haha, that's like a twisted send-up of the iPod ads.
Torley Linden: :D
Dizzy Banjo: some stompy pirate music ;)
Patchouli Woollahra knows it's nothing more than a pastiche of gunshots and other sounds from HL2, but it's catchy.
Wolfie Waves: I had some really pretty sunset WL snapshots but I can't find them :(
Patchouli Woollahra: Well, I stopped liking the Pirates versus Ninjas cliche officially this week.
Marianne McCann: I might hafta dig up some of my old tracks someday too
Torley Linden: Ahhh I'd like to thank each and all of ya for coming to my Office Hour. I have another one at 2 PM PDT today, so I'll be back if you can make it... for now I've got to go. Take care. :)
Patchouli Woollahra: later, Torley.
Marianne McCann: Have a super day, Torley!
Daedalus Young: ah, see you later Torley
Jansen Miles: Later.
Moard Ling: Cheers
Dizzy Banjo: thanks Torley :) bye
Wolfie Waves: Aww
Randal Kline: be well torley
Patchouli Woollahra: Gamecock Media announced a PvN volleyball game, which unlike a DoA volleyball game does not work...
Wolfie Waves tailwaves to Torley
JetZep Zabelin: Bye Torley
Torley Linden: T'care all! *waves and smiles big*

2 PM

Torley Linden: Hello everyone!
Ante Flan: 'lo
Torley Linden: A thing is rezzing...
Zuffy Frua invades the melon couch
AlexUK Homewood: Hi Torley ^^
Torley Linden: LOHI!
Glitchez Shilova: hi there
Tao Takashi: Hey Torley! :)
Torley Linden: Glad see you all here. ^.^
Zuffy Frua: hihi
Squirrel Wood: I spy a Torley ^^
Jason Swain: epps I am on somebodys table, sorry
Torley Linden: I might as well sit, or something.
Glitchez Shilova: torleys place makes me hungry
Torley Linden: That's okay, melons can be stood on.
Torley Linden: *crush crush* Melon wine.
Torley Linden: Yeah, it makes me hungry too, which is why I'm eating right now.
Torley Linden: Hehehe.
Squirrel Wood: Yum ^^
Jason Swain: lol
Torley Linden: Some new folks who I haven't seen here before and some of my fave regulars! =)
Squirrel Wood: Ooo! 26 votes on misc-632 ^^
Torley Linden: How are we all doing on this Friday?
Glitchez Shilova: graet
Kerry Giha 1.1: AFK a moment, work.
Glitchez Shilova: i have been waiting all week
Tao Takashi: trying today again after a long time to see something of the grid except my work ;-)
Ante Flan: good
Robot Groin Tap: Squirrel Wood pours some tea...
Jason Swain: Good thanks
Kazuhiro Aridian: ^^
Glitchez Shilova: lemme guess
Glitchez Shilova: watermelons
Torley Linden: Apparently we are changing our language, so we use "Grid" to refer to Second Life as a service... and simply "Second Life" to refer to the non-physical geographical space...
Torley Linden: Some context around that is http://secondlifegrid.net
Torley Linden: Surprisingly, not eating watermelons at the moment. Am having Special K!
Torley Linden: Not the drug, the actual cereal.
Squirrel Wood: wb zuffy
Glitchez Shilova: o
Kazuhiro Aridian: : DD
Torley Linden: And cream soda, I'm a pop-o-holic!
Tao Takashi: so the new architecture working group is then more focusing on the grid
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/13505
Torley Linden: So good to see you all here today! Feel free to have a seat, or stand if you want.
Glitchez Shilova: do lindens have infinite L$
Ante Flan: best avatar ever
Tao Takashi: I would like to find a different name for it then though
Torley Linden: Tao: Yes, it's broader than that, altho I haven't personally been tapped into that area of LL much... Liana is organizing a lot of stuff with that tho.
Kazuhiro Aridian: ?
Tao Takashi: yes, was part of that yesterday
Tao Takashi: did a post on my blog about it
Torley Linden: Glitchez: I sure don't!
Torley Linden: Oh cool Tao! I'll have to see what ya wrote.
Theodore Folsom: Torley :D Hullows
Torley Linden: HULLOWS!
Kazuhiro Aridian: ^_________^
Torley Linden: Glitchez, you have red lasers coming out of you en masse...
Torley Linden: reminds me of a rock concert.
Tao Takashi: I hope I did a good job, will not be the last post
Tao Takashi: but it's a great project so the news needs to be spread
Tao Takashi: http://taotakashi.wordpress.com for those who want to learn about it
Torley Linden: Well I think that's a great thing about what you do, Tao... followup, lots of it.
Velouria Infinity: aloha
Kazuhiro Aridian: hallllo!
Torley Linden: Self-promotion of your creative projects is certainly welcome here, I love to hear about it.
Tao Takashi: right now it's more about finding good answers to Proks comments ;-)
Torley Linden: So if you've got a blog, a cool landmark of a build you did or like, or machinima you made (maybe even video tutorials), that's all welcome!
Torley Linden: Haha, well words will never end, that's the natural consequence of communication. =)
Kazuhiro Aridian: indeedly!
Tao Takashi did the sim "Stadt" but it needs still a lot of work
Squirrel Wood: Holla Bridie ^^
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/13495
Tao Takashi: Hi Bridie
Bridie Linden: Happy Friday all!
X-Flight, Carbon Rod X: All Go
X-Flight, Carbon Rod X: All Go
Kazuhiro Aridian: hiya!
Ante Flan made a squirrel. It's on his head
Zuffy Frua: pretty squirrel!
Bridie Linden: New Release Candidate viewer available here: http://www.secondlife.com/community/downloads-optional.php
Glitchez Shilova: i crashed
Kazuhiro Aridian: wondersome : 3
Ante Flan: a new new one, or the old new one?
Torley Linden: HEYA Bridie! Glad you could make it.
Bridie Linden: new new one :)
Torley Linden: Yeah, be sure to check out da new RC!
Kazuhiro Aridian: eee!
Torley Linden: Fresh off the press! Hehe.
Velouria Infinity: I'm on the new release candidate, is pretty good, not crashing easily (mac)
Glitchez Shilova: im still on old
Ante Flan: yesterday's RC?
Ante Flan: if so, I'm already on it
Bridie Linden: 1.18.3.4 (new today)
McCabe Maxsted: and I just installed 1.18.3, hehe
Ante Flan: ok, I'll check it out later
Bridie Linden: Great, thx
Glitchez Shilova: i have the RC
Torley Linden: We are pretty agile with these RCs so far. Exciting time.
Ante Flan: will there be a blog post?
Squirrel Wood points at Zuffy. Just poke the groin tap for hot tea ^^
Bridie Linden: just updated the blog post
Zuffy Frua: tea on tap!
Ante Flan: ah
Torley Linden: I'm on the WindLight viewer right now, so it doesn't have some of those newer fixes because it's based on an older main viewer build.
Glitchez Shilova: i want to know about god mode
Torley Linden: I tend to bounce between viewers a lot, however.
Jason Swain: I was on the new 1.18.3.4 but I have to keep editing appearent, else I have missing textures
Torley Linden: Glitchez: Uh, what DO you wanna know? =)
Robot Groin Tap: Zuffy Frua pours some tea...
Glitchez Shilova: what u guys use it for
Ante Flan: I still want windlight
Tao Takashi: so please give us windlight soon! :)
Ante Flan: you got us addicted, then took it away. It's so unfair :(
McCabe Maxsted: mmmm.... windlight
Kazuhiro Aridian: 'lo Neo!
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Tao Takashi is also happy to test buggy software ;-)
NeoBokrug Elytis: Hi everybody :)
Kazuhiro Aridian: golly, a full house!
Torley Linden: Ante: We'll give it back, we will.
Tao Takashi: I do it all the time anyway with other open source projects ;-)
Torley Linden: We're patient, not cruel.
Ante Flan: you should rename it windcrack
Torley Linden: Anyone who doesn't know what the heck WindLight is or needs project updates, you're more than welcome to... see http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Torley_Linden
Torley Linden: Haha Ante, one sec, gonna forward that to WindLight Team. =)
Savannah Glimmer: I loved your photos Torley.
Squirrel Wood: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-632 demands your vote for a better second life ^^
Ante Flan: awesome
Glitchez Shilova: windlight is the new rendering
Glitchez Shilova: for the sky
Squirrel Wood: windlight is all pretty skies ^^
Tao Takashi: I won't look at that page, it just makes me want this client more ;-)
Savannah Glimmer: yes I miss Windlight.
Torley Linden: Yeah, I'm bad that way, huh?
Tao Takashi: can you store some setting for a sim by now?
Torley Linden: It's like the baker shop is just boiling with goodies.
Kazuhiro Aridian: does the new client implement any 3D clouds?
Torley Linden: Not yet Tao, it's still just viewer-side.
Revolution Perenti: yea i do too
Torley Linden: Kazuhiro: Not yet either, that's Nimble -- a future phase.
Tao Takashi: ah, hope that's coming soon then :)
Kazuhiro Aridian: aha!
Torley Linden: Initially we shall retain Classic Clouds as you know them today...
Torley Linden: but they look better in WindLight.
Revolution Perenti: hello torley when i see everyone rezzed
Tao Takashi: I want to give my visitors an idea of how I think the sim should look like ;)
Kazuhiro Aridian: I see! I can't wait for the Nimble viewer : O
Robot Groin Tap: Squirrel Wood pours some tea...
Ante Flan: nimble should be cool. Have you guys even started on it?
Ante Flan: probably should get windlight done, first
NeoBokrug Elytis: Nimble?
Torley Linden: Yes, we are getting things done sequentially.
Kazuhiro Aridian: 3D clouds, Neo : D
Glitchez Shilova: can i have a demonstration of your god-like power
Torley Linden: I love having you guys over here because that gives us opportunities to share...
Ante Flan: but nimble runs on top of windlight, right? So I guess they won't need to do too much with lighting and stuff
Revolution Perenti: well havok next and there blog about it soon as i hear
Revolution Perenti: then mono
Revolution Perenti: then windlight
Torley Linden: Nimble -- http://www.windwardmark.net/products.php?page=nimble&sub=technology
Revolution Perenti: i use svn windlight sometimes but still way out of date
Glitchez Shilova bows to our linden gods
Ante Flan: mono is webpages in 3D, right?
Torley Linden: That is info dating from before we acquired Windward Mark.
Glitchez Shilova: Linden Time!!! Linden Time!!! OMG It's Linden Time!!!
NeoBokrug Elytis: Thanks!
Torley Linden: Glitchez: Well I am a trickster, I am not sure what I have that might interest you.
Torley Linden: =)
Glitchez Shilova: turning a object of mine into yours
Torley Linden: Ante: Ah no, "webpages in 3D" sounds more like "HTML on a prim".
Tao Takashi: ah, a trickster :)
Tao Takashi: mono is just for the scripting engine
Velouria Infinity: Torley in the newest release candidate small textures are getting downloaded uncompressed, correct?
Revolution Perenti: are they adding your presets torley too
Glitchez Shilova: lots o lag
Torley Linden: 6 of them Revolution but I'll be distro'ing more manually, I reckon.
Sleven Hathaway: hey rev
Torley Linden: Velouria: I *think* that was one of the fixes... Bridie do you know offhand?
NeoBokrug Elytis: Webpages in 3d remind me of VML. :)
Revolution Perenti: hello Sleven
Tao Takashi: SL is webpages in 3d ;-)
Tao Takashi: sorta
Glitchez Shilova: take this prim from me when it rezzez
Torley Linden: For anyone who didn't see Bridie's Release Candidate viewer post, ah, http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/09/14/now-available-release-candidate-viewer-update/
Ante Flan: ah, a new scripting engine sounds complicated
Torley Linden: Glitchez, well I'm the landowner... any landowner could do that...
Torley Linden: but IF YOU INSIST :p
Kazuhiro Aridian: haha
Glitchez Shilova: no not that
Tao Takashi: Ante: well, I guess scripters won't notice that much at first but it's supposed to run faster and maybe more stable
Tao Takashi: so it's all about stability mostly
Torley Linden: Well, I returned it. I'm not just going to TAKE it from you though, that might be STEALING. <.< Unless you CONSENT to it in front of everyone. :D
Torley Linden is feeling prankster-ish.
Glitchez Shilova: Server menu
Squirrel Wood: up to 300 times faster scripts...
Kazuhiro Aridian: : D
Revolution Perenti: torley i noticed alot of jira too some going back months and unassigned as last week i was on bug fixing frezzy
Ante Flan: oh, does the new water use a bumpmap or normal map?
Torley Linden: Ante: Normal map, which is customizable.
Tao Takashi: I think speed has never been a problem with my scripts, it's more the language ;-)
Revolution Perenti: the dev actually look at the jira if they are unassigned
Tao Takashi: and maybe script size and missing includes
Torley Linden: You can basically plunk any texture onto the new ripple water.
Ante Flan: yeah, as soon as I heard that, I made one with filter forge :P
NeoBokrug Elytis: Woo!
Torley Linden: Like for example, this is custom water, mmkay: http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/1382942174/
Torley Linden: =)
Glitchez Shilova: kick the whole grid off, lol
Torley Linden: Yeah, I've been using Filter Forge to do a lot of water stuffs...
Torley Linden: caustics and all that, it can be pretty badass.
Kazuhiro Aridian: golly, that's wondersome : O
Torley Linden: If anyone here's on Windows and likes Photoshop, I wholeheartedly recommend Filter Forge... http://www.filterforge.com
Zuffy Frua: cooo, that looks luverly!!
Torley Linden: 30-day trial can be extended to 90 days.
Damani Roadster 0.50 - watermelon: You are not the owner...
McCabe Maxsted: kickass
Glitchez Shilova: lindens can steal land
Glitchez Shilova: lol
NeoBokrug Elytis: I don't think they would though :)
Kazuhiro Aridian: with great power comes great responsibility ^^
Ante Flan: how do you extend it? Mine just ran out
Torley Linden: Glitchez, do you not have faith? Why do you need to see a manifestation of powers to believe?
Squirrel Wood: power abuse is punished harshly
Torley Linden: Perhaps you are kinda like the Richard Dawkins of avatars? :)
Kazuhiro Aridian: : D
McCabe Maxsted: haha
Torley Linden: Lindens "can" do a number of things we shouldn't, otherwise we get fired.
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: I DON'T WANT HAT.
Torley Linden: THAT>
Torley Linden: I want hats, I love hats.
Kazuhiro Aridian: ehehe
AlexUK Homewood: Torley, is the music stream here a publically available one? It's kinda rockin'. ^^
Robot Groin Tap: Squirrel Wood pours some tea...
Glitchez Shilova: why have those powers if u get fired for usin em
Torley Linden: AlexUK: Hmmm let me check what that is.
Torley Linden: AlexUK -- http://www.archive.org/download/Torley_Wong_-_The_Final_Selection/Torley_Wong-A_Better_Place.mp3
Revolution Perenti: torley awesome musican talking about music
Robot Groin Tap: Theodore Folsom pours some tea...
AlexUK Homewood: Oh, very cool, thank you.
Torley Linden: In a "past life" I was an audio engineer.
Torley Linden: You're very welcome, thanks for asking.
Kazuhiro Aridian: : 3
Revolution Perenti: torley got same djx i use sometimes too :D
Torley Linden: Gosh it's great to have all you guys here with me, each of ya, there's a lot of energy.
Torley Linden: Really Revolution? They are such fun boxes, aren't they?
Revolution Perenti: yea
Revolution Perenti: i have the original keyboard too
Squirrel Wood: noice ^^
Glitchez Shilova: wasnt there a bug that allowed anyone to use god toola
Torley Linden: I am a fan of really cheap technology that can help get a lot done.
Revolution Perenti: i use it with my korg trinity you can make some really cool groves really easy
Glitchez Shilova: tools*
Revolution Perenti: i love my mc505 best :D
Torley Linden: I know both those pieces of gear; never owned 'em, but played 'em.
Squirrel Wood: client side "god" mode works to some degree but server side stuff is Linden only. Which is good.
Torley Linden: I used to study synthesizers intensely...
Revolution Perenti: so love analog retro grove boxes too
Zuffy Frua: want some tea ladies?
Velouria Infinity: please
Robot Groin Tap: Zuffy Frua pours some tea...
Revolution Perenti: love my analog drum machine too like tr626
Savannah Glimmer: : ) thanks Zuffy
Zuffy Frua: teheee ^_^
Torley Linden: TR-626, now that's a beast of an older generation.
Velouria Infinity: ty Zuffy
McCabe Maxsted: I like my tea like I like my women: green
Torley Linden: Green women are those Orion slaves from Star Trek, aren't they?
McCabe Maxsted: haha yup
Revolution Perenti: i know i use midi with new technogly makes some really cool beats
Squirrel Wood: Mmm. FLStudio ^^
Tao Takashi: as long as it's not yellow men
Revolution Perenti: yea i love that
Revolution Perenti: i love my atari with cubuse lol
Revolution Perenti: im too old fasioned
Torley Linden: Hey Tao, how did you come up with the idea to do stars on your skin in the fist place?
Torley Linden: *first
Glitchez Shilova: im a god mode fanatic
Glitchez Shilova: Advanced Snapshot Magic Time!
Tao Takashi: Torley, no idea. I once made this texture for some house or so and just tested how it looks as skin
Tao Takashi: that's basically the story
Tao Takashi: then I forgot to remove it again and now people know me like that ;-)
NeoBokrug Elytis: Haha very similar to mine. :)
Torley Linden: Ah yes, your furniture.
Kazuhiro Aridian: haha : D
Kazuhiro Aridian: well, it works nicely : O
Zuffy Frua: me of to beds, see yo uall laters ^_^
Tao Takashi: I also should build some furniture again :)
Kazuhiro Aridian: bye! : 3
Tao Takashi: and finish my sim ;-)
McCabe Maxsted: bye zuffy
Theodore Folsom: byes Zuffy !
Jason Swain: See you zuffy
Torley Linden: Bye and have a good one!
Tao Takashi: well, "finish" is a bad word
Torley Linden: OMG emoticons!
Torley Linden: I love that, that's rich.
Glitchez Shilova: Linden Time!!! Linden Time!!! OMG It's Linden Time!!!
Savannah Glimmer: bye Zuffy
Glitchez Shilova: lol
Torley Linden: Are we gonna turn this into a dance party?
Torley Linden: Haha, that's a very fun gesture, Glitchez.
Kazuhiro Aridian: : D
Glitchez Shilova: Linden Time!!! Linden Time!!! OMG It's Linden Time!!!
Revolution Perenti: torley you know when windlight going to hit beta grid or how about updating the SVN status :D
Tao Takashi: well, I am also off again.. checking out some friend's place before going to bed :)
Tao Takashi: cya next time and everybody have a great weekend!
Kazuhiro Aridian: seeeeya!
Torley Linden: Revolution, I believe Rob Linden will help us do some of those open-source things, but WindLight is going to run on the main, not beta grid.
NeoBokrug Elytis: Bye :)
Squirrel Wood: don't forget to vote on https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-632 ^^
Savannah Glimmer: Bye Tao, good to see you
Torley Linden: Have a good one!
Tao Takashi: thx :)
McCabe Maxsted: see ya tao
Glitchez Shilova: islands are a bit overpriced
Torley Linden: Er, I'm not sure if I should be using "grid" that way now with changes in terminology... it's confusing. :\
Kazuhiro Aridian: what should we call it now!
Glitchez Shilova: Linden Time!!! Linden Time!!! OMG It's Linden Time!!!
Squirrel Wood: flatlands? ^^
Torley Linden: I don't know a clear winner yet Kazuhiro, I gotta ask around...
Glitchez Shilova: i luv it
Kazuhiro Aridian: haha
Torley Linden: Glitchez, so, why the red lasers?
Torley Linden: Are you out to zap someone?
Glitchez Shilova: they are kewl
Kazuhiro Aridian: : D
Revolution Perenti: im more impressed with the new nvida sdks inlike the use of opengl in current viewer, advantually they really should modular the rendering engine a bit more even start using CG and help improve geometry space
Kazuhiro Aridian: I heart nVidia : 3
Jason Swain is pleased to remember Crtl Alt Shift = from Torleys cool videos
Revolution Perenti: there few patches i've not submitted yet but opengl problems are all over with nvidia
Revolution Perenti: like current one torley is vertex
Torley Linden: BY THE WAY... if you're thinking of making normal maps, this is a useful utility... http://developer.nvidia.com/object/nv_texture_tools.html
Torley Linden: Look at the "Normal Map" plugin.
Revolution Perenti: which causes over a gig of memory to be consumbed and adventaully crashes
Revolution Perenti: managed to fix that myself in source
Revolution Perenti: lol
Squirrel Wood: I use Werkkzeug3 to make textures ^^
Torley Linden: WindLight has, at points, been a really tricky balance to keep things compatible... it's frustrating when a shader works as expected on most of the platforms out there, but then you find an example that's supposed to be supported where it borks up bad.
Glitchez Shilova: lindens should eradicate griefers
Savannah Glimmer: I'm thinking Rev's fix might let me use voice on my nvidea/vista system without freezing.
Torley Linden: We do have a Governance Team known for terminating griefing accounts ASAP when trouble breaks loose.
Glitchez Shilova: can i join ur group torley
Torley Linden: Savannah: Hmmm what sort of graphics card do you have?
Torley Linden: Glitchez: Which group?
NeoBokrug Elytis: When windlight first came out, I got to use it for about 30 minutes, after that it never worked again. If I enabled shaders it would crash :\
Revolution Perenti: like now torley 347 meg usage before i was hitting over a gig
Glitchez Shilova: for your title
Torley Linden: Ack, I sure hope that's been fixed by now, NeoBokrug.
Torley Linden: Sorry Glitchez, this group is just me and my alts.
Savannah Glimmer: GeForce Go 7300/PCI/SSE2
NeoBokrug Elytis: Probably has :)
Kazuhiro Aridian: I hope so! I was having similar issues
Kazuhiro Aridian: : D
Glitchez Shilova: NOOOOOOOoooooooOOooo!
Glitchez Shilova: lol
Wolfgang Fackler: everyone i know is here... ante... jason, squirrel, kerry Theo... what's up with this? >_>;
Savannah Glimmer: I tried running Sl.exe and the two voice apps as win xp and no deal.
Torley Linden: Laptop cards can be tricky to find the latest drivers on...
Theodore Folsom: we´re kinda Torley addicted ^_^
AlexUK Homewood: Oh, uhm, whilst we're on technical issues... is the Client/Rendering/Run Multiple Treads option going to help at all on multi-core cpus?
Savannah Glimmer: it worked for 1.17 just fine, then 1.18 makes it freeze
Ante Flan: Haven Colville says hi and asks when you're going to visit, Torley
Kazuhiro Aridian: the best flavour of Linden : 3
Ante Flan: don't ask me about that, though :P
Glitchez Shilova: u do not show up on my AV scanner
Glitchez Shilova: y?
Ante Flan: they are just IMing me for an update on my waves
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.

Igel Hawks: Hi @all
Kazuhiro Aridian: harro!
Theodore Folsom: Hullow Igel
Torley Linden: Ante: Which location is Haven referring to?
Revolution Perenti: seems the nvida fx 5500 refused to start sl on latest drivers complining to update drivers when its the latest
Revolution Perenti: think sl version checking code needs tweaking
Torley Linden: Trennie! Long time no sea!
Torley Linden: Lucky number 4 too.
Tren Neva: Toooorleeey!
Wolfgang Fackler: why do i hear static?
Ante Flan: Havens Paradise, she says
NeoBokrug Elytis: Tren :)
Kazuhiro Aridian: Trennnnn!
Torley Linden: Ahhh let me make a note.
Torley Linden: *writes down*
Tren Neva: hooowdy friends!

Kazuhiro Aridian: good eve, fair Tren!
Glitchez Shilova: do*
Tren Neva: nay clad, tis still high morn!
Kazuhiro Aridian: not here, m'lady : D
Ante Flan: I landscaped a void sim, Ryder Beach. I'm showing off a lot of my stuff, there
Ante Flan: I'd like to see how it looks in windlight :P
Revolution Perenti: lol she probley afk
Glitchez Shilova: im tryin to give you an LM
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/13506

Tren Neva: Well I declair. How does fair the weather in the future, Lord Kaz?
Torley Linden: Anachronistic talk!
Bridie Linden: Sorry Glitchez - was in another window
Bridie Linden: I'm part of a dynamnic duo w/Torley!
Glitchez Shilova gave you Spank's Specialties, Oz (132, 100, 27).
Bridie Linden: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Bridie_Linden
Bridie Linden: :)
Kazuhiro Aridian: trouble in twos! : 3
Glitchez Shilova: thats my fav spot torley
McCabe Maxsted: who's batman and who's robin?
Bridie Linden: We work on finding/prioritizing bugs and helping out with new features too
Torley Linden: Hahaha. :D
Bridie Linden: Good cop/bad cop? J/K!
Bridie Linden: more like...
Torley Linden: Bridie and I work together on Blacklight and WindLight, apparently things that have "Light" in them.
NeoBokrug Elytis: Blacklight?
Torley Linden: Studio Blacklight @ Linden Lab is an engineering group dedicated to fixing critical problems.
Squirrel Wood: Ooo! Bridie! I need your vote for https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-632 ^^
NeoBokrug Elytis: Ahh. Hah
Tren Neva: how deLIGHTful! hehehe
Torley Linden: Blacklight's name is partially inspired by C:SI.
Glitchez Shilova: Linden Time!!! Linden Time!!! OMG It's Linden Time!!!
Bridie Linden: ANd we rock the mic too!
Revolution Perenti: lol so when does second life reach light speed :D
Revolution Perenti: lol
Torley Linden: Yeah, we know how to get the party started. :D
Torley Linden: *does Lil Jon impersonation*
Ante Flan: CS:I hates furries :<
Bridie Linden looks @ 632
Ante Flan: I don't have that gesture, though
Torley Linden: I was watching some beatboxers on YouTube the other day, it was freakin' kewl.
Bridie Linden: Ye-AH!
Torley Linden: http://youtube.com/watch?v=BCuWeXZi05w is like 11 min. long but WELL-WORTH IT.
Torley Linden: If we did something like VWR-632, gosh, that'd be so much easier to get into various forms of content creation.
Savannah Glimmer gave you Things to Do LM's.
Torley Linden: Ooh thanx Savannah!
Savannah Glimmer: : )
Revolution Perenti: torley look here later http://www.projectoverseer.biz/ my person music website i run for artists :D
Torley Linden: *checks it out*
Theodore Folsom: OMG that human beatbox dude is awesome :D
Revolution Perenti: wrote the cms too :D
Torley Linden: Hmmm *note to self, must do more emotions with spaces in them* Savannah I noticed you did it like ": )" and I usually just do ":)" but I should do ": )" more to add variety.
Torley Linden: Theodore: I like his take on "Sweet Dreams" by Eurhythmics.
Savannah Glimmer: yes it makes a bigger smile lol
Theodore Folsom: hahahaha Yeah ^^
Torley Linden: = )
Torley Linden: =^..^= XD 8-) @_@ o.O EMOTICON ONSLAUGHT.
Glitchez Shilova: Linden Time!!! Linden Time!!! OMG It's Linden Time!!!
Kazuhiro Aridian: ^o^
Igel Hawks: LOL
McCabe Maxsted: ACK! emoticons! my one weakness!
Torley Linden: Glitchez, gosh, you must really like that emoticon.
AlexUK Homewood: Okies, question... (or gripe?)... how come we can have an inventory with thousands and thousands of objects, but only ten picks in our profile? It's frustrating. :->
Squirrel's Fortune Cookie: Here's some wisdom for you:
Squirrel's Fortune Cookie: The first ten years I liked work, the second ten years I was indifferent, the third ten years they can bite me. -- Constant
Glitchez Shilova: when im with a linden
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/13507
Ante Flan: wow.
Ante Flan: "The credentials you provided cannot be determined to be authentic."
Torley Linden: AlexUK: No particular reason but I reckon that could be a new feature add. :)
Ante Flan: that's an interesting way to say you put in the wrong password
AlexUK Homewood: We needs more. Many more. :->
McCabe Maxsted: would be nice if we could organize our 30K inventories while we're at it ;)
Kazuhiro Aridian: mine's down to 9k : 3
NeoBokrug Elytis: I just killed mine down to 10.5k :)
Kazuhiro Aridian: yay!
Glitchez Shilova: torley has a large inventory right?
Torley Linden: No, I don't.
Revolution Perenti: lol i do
Torley Linden: Mine is under 6,000 items.
Revolution Perenti: 121,822
Torley Linden: I try to keep it under 7,500 as much as possible.
Glitchez Shilova: 3k
Kazuhiro Aridian: wow! good job : 3
Torley Linden: I just don't like bloat.
McCabe Maxsted: wow
Orzga Aabye: nor shoes .
Savannah Glimmer: 15K+, trying to reduce it
McCabe Maxsted: I clean mine down to 25K then it balloons right back again
Revolution Perenti: lol i tried then i go back and takes too long
Revolution Perenti: wish it was easier like windows too sort
Revolution Perenti: or how about zip folder option :D
Torley Linden: Inventory organization is really important, because if it's cluttered and bloated, it takes a longer time to load, and causes you problems... finding stuff is harder. :\
McCabe Maxsted: it used to look more like windows explorer
Revolution Perenti: lol i know
Jason Swain: yay a zip folder idea is a really good idea
Revolution Perenti: being in demand all the time i dont get free time
Savannah Glimmer: yes I wish we could get a file window that lets us put our object in a particluar place in inventory.
Torley Linden: There's an easy tip to open more than one inventory window at once.
Torley Linden: With one inv. window open, go to File menu > New Window within.
McCabe Maxsted: but screeeen spaaaaace
Revolution Perenti: i know that one :D
Torley Linden: And then you'll see a second Inventory window!
Torley Linden: Makes it easy to drag things from one to another while in different views.
Glitchez Shilova: file>new window
Orzga Aabye: Do people share my problem that it is diffciutl to create a New Folder inside existing folders?
Revolution Perenti: how many items you usally keep
Savannah Glimmer: yes but the item is already there and needs sorting and dragging. I'd like a window that lets me pick a folder to put it in intially.
Torley Linden: Orzga, I've found it to work fine for me... do you have steps to repro the problem? :)
McCabe Maxsted: yeah, it lags me bad orzga
Torley Linden: There are a lot of Windows utilities I'd like within SL... a good file batch-renamer would be handy.
Torley Linden: For all those snapshots, for example. ;)
Savannah Glimmer: oh yes
Orzga Aabye: Ok, I can send a repro. It didn't work, it started working, then it stopped. But I can't be good about giving rev #'s
AlexUK Homewood: Don't have that problem myself... do crash-to-desktop about one in ten times I empty my trash though. ;_;
Revolution Perenti: i would like zip option and you can decompress when you need it
Theodore Folsom: uhm Torley ... we spoke about that group limitation some time ago. is there anything new on that ?
Velouria Infinity: is it possible to do batch permission changes in Inv?
Revolution Perenti: say you have folder with many folders of unused items zip it
Torley Linden: Theodore: Not likely going to be for awhile, but I agree... it's a very popular issue on the public Issue Tracker.
Torley Linden: It might have to be part of another big group redesign project.
Jason Swain: yes 25 groups is very limiting
Squirrel Wood: right-click the folder you want to have a new subfolder within and "create folder". done.
Theodore Folsom: aw oki ^^
Torley Linden: Velouria: Not really yet... but that'd rock too.
Revolution Perenti: wants 50 groups ^^
Revolution Perenti: also mute group option ^^
Torley Linden: There are some quick fixes we can pick up in the meantime, but some things need more design consideration...
Torley Linden: Yeah, muting group IMs... heh.
Kazuhiro Aridian: I like 25 groups limit, it makes me be choosey!
McCabe Maxsted: alex: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-839
Torley Linden: I remember when we had 10 groups, and then 15... and then 25.
Bridie Linden: we were talking about diff. inventory ideas @ lunch today...
Torley Linden: Some people are extremely social. :o)
Velouria Infinity: the groups, over 25 limit, that's nightmare database mess I was told, which makes sense
Torley Linden: And sometimes, BTW, people could use groups more wisely, e.g., use group Roles instead of creating new groups for different positions and wahtnot.
AlexUK Homewood: Oh, thanks McCabe. :-)
Revolution Perenti: also when you in busy mode that we were talking about other day torley
Torley Linden: Bridie: Oh, what came up?
Orzga Aabye: Squirrel, yes. It does not work right now. Create New Folder while a folder selected creates folder in top level, not inside selected forlder.
Revolution Perenti: like you loose notecards and inventry that gets given to us
Igel Hawks: Hi Dizzy
Bridie Linden: Just some thoughts on inventory on a parcel for example...
Dizzy Banjo: hi
Tren Neva: hooowdy
Torley Linden: It DEFINITELY should be communicated better that when you send inventory to someone in busy, it does NOT poof into limbo, but gets dumped into their trash.
Orzga Aabye: afaics
Jason Swain: If you sell items you need to be added to groups to setup a vendor on other peoples lands though
Torley Linden: For starters we should reword the pop-up dialog that tells you what happens when you go into Busy mode.
Revolution Perenti: does it ?
Torley Linden: Jason: Yup, and for people with a lot of franchises, that's a pain.
Squirrel Wood: Well, creating folders works perfectly fine for me
Torley Linden: Revolution: Yes, really. It's poorly-understood but a big pain!
Revolution Perenti: would it not be better to send it to a receved folder or something
Ante Flan: I kept trying to send an update to somebody who AFK'd all day in busy mode
Ante Flan: it was impossible
Revolution Perenti: i delete my trash daily without checking it
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Orzga Aabye: :-( .. as i said, for a period of time it did work. It could be user error ..
Ante Flan: I could never catch her on, so I had to give up
Torley Linden: Revolution: Yeah, UNLESS someone is using Busy mode to block unwanted spam...
Velouria Infinity: you need to reword the "something has gone wrong" and "despite our best efforts" Torley
Torley Linden: So there are a number of things at play here.
Torley Linden: Velouria: I agree those cryptic messages could and should be more specific when possible.
Squirrel rang Wolfgang's bell.
Velouria Infinity: thats the worst PR
Velouria Infinity: make 'em soothing :)
Torley Linden: I know we hope to have more useful missing inventory messages...
Squirrel rang Wolfgang's bell.
Torley Linden: instead of "Missing from Database".
Revolution Perenti: so those Inventry loss support tickets you get probley could be lowered if there was like a folder it goes too prety much like email does
Theodore Folsom: who ever played that jingle ==> Me need it pwease ! Where can i get it ?
McCabe Maxsted: "lost in linden land"
Squirrel rang Wolfgang's bell.
Orzga Aabye: Is there a way of muting a group?
Torley Linden: Inventory loss is a scourage, a plague on our crops!
Squirrel Wood: Despite our best efforts we could not manage to find the inventory item named "yada yada".
Torley Linden: Orgza: Not yet but that's another longtime-hoped-for feature.
Orzga Aabye: :-)
Velouria Infinity: "please try to rez [item name again]", communication errors may have prevented this action, thank you
Torley Linden: Hey has anyone else here heard of Plopp? http://www.planet-plopp.com/
Orzga Aabye: ok .. i'l send the patch lol
Torley Linden: They're doing a new beta that lets you export sculpties.
Theodore Folsom: sounds great
McCabe Maxsted: oooh
McCabe Maxsted: awesome
Theodore Folsom: Yup yups
Torley Linden: It's pretty easy to use alrtight.
Torley Linden: *alright
McCabe Maxsted: I tried to create a sculpture sculptie last week... didn't go so well XD
Theodore rang Wolfgang's bell.
Theodore Folsom: aww
Kazuhiro Aridian: I use Maya ^^
Torley Linden: Yeah, sculpties gotta get easier to create, lowers the bar of entry so more people can make awesome stuff.
Torley Linden: Maya is for the advanced and likely very smart! :)
Savannah Glimmer: torley have you looked at Wonderland?
Tren Neva: 2 rings and the british are coming
Velouria Infinity: if small textures are coming uncompressed... that changes the equation for sculpties for the betta
Kazuhiro Aridian: but I learned the basics in 3 days! : O
Torley Linden: Savannah, the region?
Ante Flan: what I want is a way to make sharp sculpties without photoshop. :P
Torley Linden: Kazuhiro: Emphasis on *smart*. ;)
Revolution Perenti: i use 3dsmax for sculties
Orzga Aabye: You are smart. averge learn time is 3 years :-)
Ante Flan: something more like maya and stuff
Kazuhiro Aridian: I think it's possible for even novice users to use and understand it with the right tutorials ^^
Savannah Glimmer: no Its suns pre beta version of independent metaverses
Kazuhiro Aridian: haha
Velouria Infinity: you were born with Photoshop and...
Torley Linden: Savannah: Oh, not yet, I know Project Darkstar but not Wonderland.
Revolution Perenti: use to use it at Uni
Torley Linden: YET.
Torley Linden: ^_^
Kazuhiro Aridian: I'm still IN uni : D
Savannah Glimmer: Its part of darkstar I believe...unless I've named it incorrectly...lol yikes hope not
Torley Linden: My brother knows Maya, I'd like to learn it someday too.
Revolution Perenti: lol has finished :D
Kazuhiro Aridian: it's a lovely program, if abit.... layered, to say the least
Revolution Perenti: spends 20 hrs a day coding lol
NeoBokrug Elytis: :(
Torley Linden: You gotta love what you do and do what you love... gets you real good and adept at it.
Torley Linden: I call it "adept adaptation", actually.
Kazuhiro Aridian: I'm an art student : 3
Ante Flan: I just want a way to work on sharp sculpties in 3D
Torley Linden: Revolution BTW, awesome colors on the av, who made that?
Revolution Perenti: what the skin ?
Torley Linden: Er, Kazuhiro I mean, sorry.
Torley Linden: I mixed up!
Torley Linden: Name bubbles are glitched in WindLight...
Torley Linden: they have this odd tendency to disappear.
Torley Linden: :O
Kazuhiro Aridian: oh, I made it : D
Revolution Perenti: love my red :D
Torley Linden: Revolution: Yeah, very distinctive red and white hair.
Torley Linden: I love color schemes.
Kazuhiro Aridian: I did this colour scheme on it last night for you! : 3
Savannah Glimmer: Yes Torley, I had it correct. It's part of darkstar and is called Project Wonderland.
Tren Neva: awweeee!
Torley Linden: Kazuhiro: Wow! So how can I have an av like that?
Kazuhiro Aridian: you ask me for it! : D
Torley Linden: Ah okay, thanks Savannah.
Torley Linden: Kazuhiro: Pretty please? :)
Kazuhiro Aridian: of course! ^_____________^
Theodore Folsom: hehe
creature DRAGON HUD1: Unable to find specified agent to request permissions.
Revolution Perenti: my skin from Empyrean Emporium, Vaoetere ^^ , hair from calico
Torley Linden: ^________________^
Kazuhiro Aridian gave you ++++Dravyn WATERMELON edition.
Torley Linden: Thanx Kazuhiro!
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Kazuhiro Aridian: uh huh! : 3
Kazuhiro Aridian: ?
Torley Linden: Unicode is really fun to play with...
Revolution Perenti: i love it :D
Revolution Perenti: UTF-8
Torley Linden: Extended charsets FTW!
Revolution Perenti: and displays chinnese charactors perfectly :D
Torley Linden: Haha.
Torley Linden: The other day Pinyin IME somehow took over my keyboard controls and I started typing all weird.
Jason Swain: Torley, Do you know if there is a reason for some SIMs to have high "Net Time" spikes?
Revolution Perenti: so many sites on the web dont think about it, i use to work for phpnuke.org as lead developer for a while but system sucks not even unicode
Torley Linden: Jason: Good thing you asked, I HATE THAT BUG.
Kazuhiro Aridian: : O
Torley Linden: It's a hot support issue right now, our next server-side deploy should have a fix.
Squirrel Wood: is there a jira on that one ?
Torley Linden: Only internally, SL-51487 - Region Performance down since Aug 3 rolling restart
Jason Swain: Fantastic, well done ^^
Revolution Perenti: torley get devs to put my fixes in too ^^
Revolution Perenti: JK
Torley Linden: Tentatively, looks for Sept. 19 but that date is subject to change.
Igel Hawks smiles
Torley Linden: That's our planned service outage next week.
Jason Swain hopes sept 19 goes well
Torley Linden: http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/09/12/second-life-downtime-scheduled-for-919/
McCabe Maxsted: tres w00t
Torley Linden: We like to load up all these bugs into batches and squash 'em flat.
Squirrel Wood: Oh my.... sept 19 I'll already be a year older :(
Kazuhiro Aridian: gosh!
Torley Linden: Tomorrow, I will be 3 years old in Second Life.
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Torley Linden: And what a 3 years it's been!
Theodore Folsom: \o/
Kazuhiro Aridian: I'll be two in November ^^
NeoBokrug Elytis: Merry Rezday!
Torley Linden: Why thank you!
Squirrel Wood: teehee
Savannah Glimmer: Happy Birthday
Kazuhiro Aridian: wow, wondersome!
Dizzy Banjo: woot
Squirrel Wood: That calls for a party!
AlexUK Homewood: Congrats hon. :-)
Al Sonic: I'm getting to be around half that.
McCabe Maxsted: should throw a party
Torley Linden: I remember talking to the people who were 2-3 when I started and thinking they were really old.
Torley Linden: Awwwwe!
Velouria Infinity: congratz Torley, happy Bday
Jason Swain: Happy SL Birthday for tomorrow Torley ^^
Torley Linden: I am pretty low-key but I appreciate you knowing.
Torley Linden: Thanxarama!
Kazuhiro Aridian: ^___________________^
AlexUK Homewood: Not old... beautifully well-preserved. :->
Igel Hawks: Happy Bday
Torley Linden: Haha, yes, I'm an antique.
Al Sonic: Yeah, so happy rezday to Torley then =)
Torley Linden: As Indiana Jones might say, "I BELONG IN A MUSEUM!"
Orzga Aabye: well bring a cake.
Squirrel Wood gave you Fortune Cookie Box 3.
Eloh Eliot: lol
Bridie Linden: I'm gonna run- have a great weekend all!
Torley Linden: Have a good one Bridie!
Torley Linden: Cheeeerio!
Bridie Linden: happy bday Torley!
Savannah Glimmer: Bye Birdie : )

Kazuhiro Aridian: seeeeya!
Jason Swain: See you Birdie

Kazuhiro Aridian: gosh : D
Torley Linden: Ohhh what giant blue man was that Trennie... ?
Tren Neva: yadni face!
Torley Linden: HAAH!
Torley Linden: OH YES!
Kazuhiro Aridian: haha
Torley Linden: He and his JUNKYARD of FREEBIES!
Torley Linden: It's all coming back to me now, verily.
Tren Neva: so much wonderment!
McCabe Maxsted: haha the tales of newbie yore
Squirrel Wood: heh. Be cautious about freebies that ask for your wallet
Savannah Glimmer: Torley do you have a newbie pic of yourself?
Orzga Aabye: baby picture time!
Savannah Glimmer: lol yep
Squirrel Wood: http://zorin.org/secondlife-photos/boxed-kitty.jpg ^^
Torley Linden: Savannah, I'm sure I do... they must be on my Flickr stream dating way back, and I have lots of old ones on Snapzilla too.
Al Sonic: heh, NOW I notice how similar "baby" and "newbie" sound.
Torley Linden: AHHH here it is... http://torley.com/a-guide-to-torleys
Torley Linden: Oldbie me, and other me's.
Kazuhiro Aridian: heeee : 3
Torley Linden: Hahaha, catbox!
Squirrel Wood: read the text on it :p
Orzga Aabye: forever noob ..
Tren Neva: the unicorn was one of the funniest!
Tren Neva: with the saddle!
Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
Jason Swain: Might I ask, where does the mellon theam come from torley?
Torley Linden: Watermelons? Oh I should answer that on my FAQ too, but several reasons...
Torley Linden: they're definitely delicious.
Theodore Folsom: ack
Torley Linden: They're good in many senses, they smell yummy too.
Torley Linden: I like the bright colors.
Savannah Glimmer: Dressed in a hot pink trenchcoat, not unlike what would happen if Neo left his garments at the Sesame Street dry cleaners, he proclaimed: "I am NeoN, I am the OneN!"
Torley Linden: And my biological Dad used to tell me about Chinese Robin Hoods who robbed trucks full of watermelon to feed the poor.
Al Sonic: Last I read, he seemed to say he loved them for every reason imaginable.
Torley Linden: That kinda struck a chord with me.
Torley Linden: Savannah: Hahaha!
Savannah Glimmer: lol
Jason Swain: Cool, I had been wondering and now I know ^^
Igel Hawks: :-)))
Orzga Aabye thinks alternative history with apple replaced by watermellon
Torley Linden: And Al, yeah, that's an accurate representation, I'd say.
Revolution Perenti: lol
Torley Linden: It's incredibly hard to find watermelon-colored stuff still tho, altho I am seeing more of it nowadays.
Torley Linden: I haven't seen watermelon soft drink, but I'm sure it must exist.
Torley Linden: Somewhere in the heavens... they are waiting.
Orzga Aabye: yes it does!
Kazuhiro Aridian: in Japanland
Kazuhiro Aridian: : O
NeoBokrug Elytis: Yeah
Torley Linden: Japanland?!?!? HAHAHAHA.
Torley Linden: Those Japanese have so much.
Kazuhiro Aridian: : D
Orzga Aabye: watermellon ices are very popular,, well
Kazuhiro Aridian: indeedly!
Torley Linden: All the intriguing flavors.
Torley Linden: They got cubed watermelons too!
Torley Linden: Those are nice.
Torley Linden: Ahhh.
Tren Neva: squidberry!
Velouria Infinity: in Europe melons are used heavily in drinks
Kazuhiro Aridian: I wish we had half the stuff they did : O
Orzga Aabye: relatively speaking.
Jason Swain: your have to start an SL water melon business torley
Velouria Infinity: and is an appetizer cassic
Torley Linden: Well, I'd like to thank each and all of you for coming to visit me today, and have fun chatting about various topics of sheer fascination. I'm gonna go now, and hope you all have a lovely weekend!
Velouria Infinity: *classic
Kazuhiro Aridian: thanks, Torley!
McCabe Maxsted: take care torley!
Squirrel Wood: Enjoy your weekend Torley ^^
Tren Neva: farewell, young torley!
Kazuhiro Aridian: have a wondersome weekend as well!
AlexUK Homewood: Thanks Torley - and happy birthday again :-)
Savannah Glimmer: Happy Rez Day again Torley.
Eloh Eliot: Laters, Torley.

Torley Linden: YAYZERAMA!
