ANNOUNCEMENT

Mentor Planning Committee Meeting starts in 10 minutes at SLVEC Classroom. Topics will be SLVEC management, keeping Volunteers involved, and any topics you bring with you. Please attend if you are interested in helping to provide solutions to make the Mentor program the best it can be for residents. Quality is our focus. We will try and keep this under an hour.

INITIAL DISCUSSION

active

communication

is all of SL being served?

monthly mentor digest

wiki page for digest

[15:33] Shiva Aabye: Right. I think an "active" mentor is an informed mentor who keeps in touch

[15:34] Marisa Naheed: an active mentor is also one who feels connected to other mentors and support systems

personal communication

[15:47] Marisa Naheed: they should also be encouraged to get proactive by looking for jobs in sl businesses once they are more established

[15:55] Nye Mu: if our goal is to be professional, then I think we have to make ourselves more visible. HUBS would be a good start.

[16:02] Simon Kline: so am i right in saying our intial focus is 1) finding ways of getting mentors more active (for those that want to be, or have the time to be) and 2) looking at ways of increasing retention rates of new residents?

DECIDING ON A PLAN

2 Mentors at every hub for 10 days

[16:09] KillerMonkey Spire: Request Mentors to visit the hubs and islands. Log any key concerns or requests from new residents include "traffic" information (busy, not busy, avatars).

[16:10] KillerMonkey Spire: report back in a week for followup meeting

[16:10] Nye Mu: a wiki page for each hub where we can post comments/observations about the hub

[16:10] Simon Kline: for me personally i'd like to see: 1) mentors that want to be invoved having access to information that helps them get involved 2) something to revitalise active mentoring like a mad mentor week across the help areas 3) this island used in new and creative ways to encourage mentors to meet and use it

[16:11] Lum Pfohl: I would just like to grab a few new willing mentors and take them around with me for several days

[16:12] Marisa Naheed: my focus is on finance atm [16:12] Marisa Naheed: less emphasis on free money

[16:12] Nye Mu: perhaps another page specifically for new 'new' resident hotspots?

[16:13] Zai Lynch: well i think i joined to late to really get what this meeting was about. just accidentally stepped in here while this was the point i logged out... but i would love to mentor in a group of mentors for some day to have some kind of group experience if this is what it was about. and to exchange ideas

[16:13] Marisa Naheed: encouraging new residents to consider premiums without becoming LL salespeople
