== LSL Syntax highlighting on the wiki ==
Heyas! =)<br>
[[User:SignpostMarv Martin|Marv]] 'n I finally went the last step to fully replace the old office hour scheduling system with the new one. All current office hours are already transfered to the new system, though people who'd like to change their current OH or who'd like to schedule a new one, will need to become familiar with the new system. Doing it the old way won't have any effect on the Office Hour page anymore. The manual for the new system is stored at [[Template:Office Hours/Documentation]]. It would be great if you could give your colleagues at LL some heads-up :-)<br>

Greetings, who's responsible at LL for the wiki? The syntax highlighting for LSL is really out-of-date. Could you give me a name of who I'd have to talk to? Or could you forward [[User:Kireji_Haiku/Ultraedit Syntax Highlight‎|this link to a third-party editor]] to her/him as a reference, to the best of my knowledge it is up to date. -- [[User:Kireji Haiku|Kireji Haiku]] 05:21, 8 October 2012 (PDT)
Hey hey :-)<br>
: Kireji, thanks for getting in touch! I appreciate you compiling these improvements. I haven't worked closely on the wiki in awhile and I don't think we have a current wiki "sysadmin" but I'll ask around. {{TorSig}} <font size="1">on 2012-10-08 @ 5:51 AM Pacific</font>
Inspired by your [[:Category:Culture|culture category]], I toyed around in my sandbox and came up with an article named [[History of Second Life]]. I spent quite some time to collect links for the right dates when things happened but I'm not really happy with the output yet. My rezday is in the beginning of 2007, so I missed quite much about SLs history. The article would need some ♥ from people who were around when the stuff happened. So the skeleton is online, maybe you know someone who you can poke to flesh it out :-)<br>
:: I also got an up-to-date LSL syntax highlighting bundle for TextMate if that helps. If you want a copy, post me an email-address where to send it. Thanks! -- [[User:Kireji Haiku|Kireji Haiku]] 06:54, 8 October 2012 (PDT)

== ImageMapping ==
Heyas =)<br>
Since I remember you sayin' you'd like the ability to use images as links, I wanted to let you know that [[User:Sue Linden|Sue]] and [[User:Rob Linden|Rob]] made it possible yesterday. We now got the [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ImageMap ImageMap Extension] available. So it can even link different parts of a picture to different pages. Like having multiple avatars on one picture and by clicking at an avatar, you get to that persons profile page. Or so. Here is a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Nihiltres/ImageMap_how-to manual] and here is an [http://toolserver.org/~dapete/ImageMapEdit/ImageMapEdit.html easy to use tool to create image maps]. Using it that way, the extension will produce a line break before and after the image. But by placing picture and text in between <font color="blue"><nowiki><div class="imagemap-inline"></div></nowiki></font>, it will be usable as an inline element. Just wanted to let you know :-)<br>

== [[Help Portal]] help request ==

Heyas! =)<br>
[[User:Gally_Young|Gally]] 'n me stumbled upon 2 problems related to the new [[Help Portal]], where we wanted to come back to your [[Talk:Help_Portal#Vid_Tut_Cats|offer]] to ask for help. So the one thing is, that we'd like to have a representation of the portal at the [[Main Page]], which is Sysop-locked so we can't alter it on our own. A [[Template:Main Page/Help]] is ready for that purpose. The second thing is, that the newer VidTuts are hosted at BlipTV, while the Wiki's [[Talk:Help_Portal#BlipTV_vs._videoflash|videoflash extension isn't supporting it]] by now. [[User:SignpostMarv Martin|Marv]] wrote a patch to fix this issue and posted it in the Jira ({{Jira|WEB-761}}). We'd then be able to make all VidTuts look [[Video_Tutorial/Land/About_Land_options|like this one]] =)<br>
Can you help us out with these issues?<br>

:: Happy you asked. Thanx for continuing to excellentize our wiki. =^_^=
:# I'll ask Rob and Sue Linden about this, as they're the designated masters-in-transition of the public wiki. I can make the change myself, but want to be sure to give them, and VTeam (since this is connected to Scribes contributions) and Documentation Team (obviously why!) a heads-up.
:# All video tutorials continue to be uploaded to YouTube. I ''prefer'' blip.tv, and earlier asked if http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Widget could be added to this public wiki, since it appears elegant and easily-extensible. However, there may be some security concerned, so it's (internal DEV-18567) currently assigned to Yoz Linden to check out. If Marv's patch is a quicker, short-term solution that is really no-fuss, I'm ''for'' it! <font color="#ff0080">'''- [[Image:Torley-favicon.png]] [[User:Torley Linden|Torley]] on 2008-08-13 @ 7:50 AM PST'''</font>
:::Yay, @#1: Glad you're spreadin' it! The more people becoming aware of the new portal, the more might contribute and improve it so yuss, that's good news!
:::@#2:The widget extension sounds neat... As far as I understand it, it seems to enable some simplified PHP code for a special namespace and yeah, that might be a security risk (I'm not entirely sure, since I'm not a programmer). So maybe not enable it for anyone but for some you can trust? I'd think that for example [[User:Strife Onizuka|Strife]] and [[User:SignpostMarv Martin|Marv]] would be people you could give editing access to such a namespace. I don't want to step on anyones feet but I think it would improve/speed-up problem resolution in the Wiki alot. For example the requested RSS feature ({{Jira|WEB-590}}) is pending since 4 month although 3 Lindens ([[User:Amber Linden|Amber]], [[User:Lexie Linden|Lexie]] & [[User:Mia Linden|Mia]]) voted on it as well. Since there is also a [http://www.mediawikiwidgets.org/Feed widget for that feature] I'm sure it would be already implemented in case (some) Residents had editing access to such a widget namespace. So in the end, it would save work for LL (less feature request Jira's) and improve the Wiki at the same time.
:::However, thx for taking care of it! :-)

== RE: [http://twitter.com/torley/statuses/803835465 twitter] ==
I have a patch for [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:VideoFlash Extension:VideoFlash]- which is used for embedding the YouTube vidtuts in the wiki (I've [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/User_talk:Args left a note] on the author's talk page about the patch)- the patch adds support for blip.tv videos to the extension. The blip.tv flash player includes "episode navigation", so rather than including a link to each individual episode, [[Video Tutorials|the article]] could be cleaned up by just displaying the latest clip in each volume.

How much does it cost to get one of these ?

I'm stuck with a rather cheap-ass graphics tablet at the moment- this is the second one of the same model I've had, due to problems with the first generation model being even more cheap-ass than this one. But as you've seen it still plays nice with ArtRage 2 :-)

[[User:SignpostMarv Martin|SignpostMarv Martin]] 08:04, 29 January 2007 (PST)

P.S. I'm suspecting you might've got it cheaper from elsewhere, since manufacturers tend to list padded prices.

: Mine was 'round CAD$350 and I got it from [http://ncix.com NCIX]. Wacom seems to have quite the hold on graphics tablets — I appreciate their elegance but also wish there was more diversity. I wonder what other alternatives are more affordable but... not ''cheap'' in the quality-lacking sense.

::Mine cost GBP£25.
::It works, but the graphics pen is rather fragile, and breaks easily. The coating on the pen tends to rub off, and the coating on the first edition of the tablet itself suffered from the same issue.

A clever soul suggested (by forum PM) an official FAQ on SL and Vista. I wouldn't imagine it would have to be long just answer a few of the more basic questions that get asked (like: why won't it run, when will it run, and why does it turn the bread on top of my CPU into burnt smoldering bread when in XP it only made toast (it has ruined my breakfast habits)). Said I would pass it along. I did sticky a thread in the RA forum though. In retrospect might have been better to PM; opps. [[User:Strife Onizuka|Strife Onizuka]] 21:03, 31 January 2007 (PST)

You can show said clever soul my reply here if ye wisheth. Re: Vista, I've asked our Quality Assurance dept.; there are some Lindens like Lawrence and Milo who've had considerable experience. Any chance you could fill the info in here Torley ?<br />

:Hey Marv — I'd like to get more dedicated wiki-editing time in but I've been swamped... when am I not? ;) Seriously though, I super-appreciate your initiative and oodles of contributions here. I've shared the idea with my fellow Community Developers ("Manager" = old terminology) about getting more info about us and Lindens in general into the wiki. It'd be nice to have a more comprehensive "Who Does What".

::Heh. I'll get the manager > developer terminology thing updated at a later date. Hope you don't mind, but I've tweaked the talk page layout to be in keeping with the format exhibited in the Wikipedia.

I know you don't deal with this, but I don't know who to bug.

Could you possibly ask whoever deals with the Second Life Protocol to update [[Message_Layout|this]] page to reflect how an LLQuaternion is represented now. When the client sends an "AgentUpdate" request, it sends 12 bytes not 16, as an LLQuaternion should be. Thanks,  --[[User:Felixe Thorne|Felixe Thorne]] 11:56, 8 February 2008 (PST)

Latest revision as of 00:41, 9 October 2012

My work has moved me into other areas at Linden Lab and I'm no longer a wiki co-admin, so please don't expect a reply here. Occasionally, I post updates on my my.secondlife.com feed.

LSL Syntax highlighting on the wiki

Greetings, who's responsible at LL for the wiki? The syntax highlighting for LSL is really out-of-date. Could you give me a name of who I'd have to talk to? Or could you forward this link to a third-party editor to her/him as a reference, to the best of my knowledge it is up to date. -- Kireji Haiku 05:21, 8 October 2012 (PDT)

Kireji, thanks for getting in touch! I appreciate you compiling these improvements. I haven't worked closely on the wiki in awhile and I don't think we have a current wiki "sysadmin" but I'll ask around. - Torley-favicon.png on 2012-10-08 @ 5:51 AM Pacific
I also got an up-to-date LSL syntax highlighting bundle for TextMate if that helps. If you want a copy, post me an email-address where to send it. Thanks! -- Kireji Haiku 06:54, 8 October 2012 (PDT)
Oh and while you're at it, please update the editor in the Second Life viewers, too! Thanks. -- Kireji Haiku 00:41, 9 October 2012 (PDT)
