[2013/03/28 15:00] Blake Burger: sup Maestro
[2013/03/28 15:00] Maestro Linden: hi guys
[2013/03/28 15:00] Yuzuru (yuzuru.jewell): Hello, Maestro.
[2013/03/28 15:00] Lucia Nightfire: I saw that delay
[2013/03/28 15:00] Theresa Tennyson: Hello!
[2013/03/28 15:00] Whirly Fizzle: Hai!
[2013/03/28 15:01] Maestro Linden: Happy Thursday!
[2013/03/28 15:01] Blake Burger: Its friday for me today :p
[2013/03/28 15:01] Maestro Linden: even happier
[2013/03/28 15:02] Motor Loon: feels like monday here
[2013/03/28 15:02] Maestro Linden: let's get started: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Server_Beta_User_Group#Agenda
[2013/03/28 15:03] Maestro Linden: first.. Agni updates
[2013/03/28 15:03] Maestro Linden: the main channel got that project with the single crash fix
[2013/03/28 15:03] Rex Cronon: hello everybody
[2013/03/28 15:04] Maestro Linden: That crash was around downloading corrupt data from neighboring regions
[2013/03/28 15:04] Maestro Linden: but it's fixed now
[2013/03/28 15:05] Rex Cronon: corrupt data? like textures, sounds, animation, mesh?
[2013/03/28 15:05] Maestro Linden: Magnum is still on the interest list project. So far, nobody's reported any issues with it, so it's my current favorite for the main channel next week
[2013/03/28 15:05] Maestro Linden: navmesh data, Rex
[2013/03/28 15:06] Maestro Linden: Finally, BlueSteel and LeTigre got that maint-server that we covered last week
[2013/03/28 15:06] Maestro Linden: the one with the LSL goodies like the new animation override system
[2013/03/28 15:07] Maestro Linden: have any of you had a chance to play with that?
[2013/03/28 15:07] Lucia Nightfire: and the revision to pathfinding, which was much needed
[2013/03/28 15:07] Lucia Nightfire: I played with the AO functions on aditi, nice work too
[2013/03/28 15:07] Maestro Linden: right, there's a performance optimization there for regions which don't have any pathfinding characters
[2013/03/28 15:08] Lucia Nightfire: its like night and day difference with performance when PF chars are present or not, lol
[2013/03/28 15:09] Lucia Nightfire: my statement is cooupled with regions that have many unoptimized objects present
[2013/03/28 15:09] Lucia Nightfire: which I think goes for most regions, lol
[2013/03/28 15:09] Maestro Linden: yeah, that's what I was about to suggest, that the region is probably full of dynamic obstacles
[2013/03/28 15:10] Maestro Linden: that's about all we have for Agni news
[2013/03/28 15:10] Maestro Linden: Monty's HTTP stuff is getting very close to RC now
[2013/03/28 15:11] Maestro Linden: he wanted me to tell you that it's the "last call" for Aditi testing
[2013/03/28 15:11] Lucia Nightfire: I onl y have a small change to my http apps that I need to make if teh wrost case scenario is ever implemented or activated
[2013/03/28 15:12] Maestro Linden: here's the email thread with the announcement, for those of you who missed his presentation at this group earlier: https://lists.secondlife.com/pipermail/opensource-dev/2013-March/009555.html
[2013/03/28 15:12] Reverie-by BUR - "Amanda": whispers: Lights ON
[2013/03/28 15:12] Lucia Nightfire: ie, the angry setting, heh
[2013/03/28 15:12] Maestro Linden: ah. well , the 'normal' version is what will enter RC, fortunately
[2013/03/28 15:13] Rex Cronon: what is the "wrost case scenario"?
[2013/03/28 15:13] Lucia Nightfire: in a nutshell, lots of throttling/blocking
[2013/03/28 15:14] Maestro Linden: ..for all HTTP communications
[2013/03/28 15:14] Lucia Nightfire: you can test it out on TextureTest2A and TextureTest2H
[2013/03/28 15:15] Lucia Nightfire: the former has the most "resistance" heh
[2013/03/28 15:15] Maestro Linden: Yuzuru, Monty asked to ask you to check out the heavy mesh/texture regions on 203 and 203H
[2013/03/28 15:15] Yuzuru (yuzuru.jewell): Happy is fastest in Japan.
[2013/03/28 15:15] Maestro Linden: or have your friend do that (I'm not sure what the context is, but maybe you know?)
[2013/03/28 15:15] Maestro Linden: oh
[2013/03/28 15:15] Maestro Linden: okay I'll tell him
[2013/03/28 15:16] Maestro Linden: thanks
[2013/03/28 15:16] Yuzuru (yuzuru.jewell): Thank you. I will test them more.
[2013/03/28 15:17] Maestro Linden: well, it looks like the only other agenda item is from Rohacan Hirons
[2013/03/28 15:18] Maestro Linden: "Added by Rohacan Hirons, please take a look at this feature : avatar rotation by script : https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-56 "
[2013/03/28 15:18] Kennylex Luckless: [someone need to get longer cigarettes]
[2013/03/28 15:18] Duckie Dickins: that was brought up at the tuesday meeting...guess he didn't make it to todays.
[2013/03/28 15:19] Maestro Linden: looks like he added it to the agenda last week, just after the meeting
[2013/03/28 15:19] Maestro Linden: I guess he'd like to do it without having the agent sit on an object
[2013/03/28 15:20] Lucia Nightfire: you can't use llApplyRotationalImpulse() or llSetTorque() to rotate your avatar either
[2013/03/28 15:20] Maestro Linden: well, you could somewhat pull it off using the 'look at' parameter from llTeleportAgent(), but that wouldn't be very graceful if you don't actually want the TP screen to flash
[2013/03/28 15:20] Duckie Dickins: Yes he demonstrated it on tuesday. It was also mentioned it would be good for hug and kiss attachments that would line up each avatar to face each other without needing manual intervention or poseballs.
[2013/03/28 15:22] Maestro Linden: oh, and Soft pointed to a related request: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-2204
[2013/03/28 15:23] Lucia Nightfire: yeah, llLookAt() and llRotLookAt() won't do it either iirc
[2013/03/28 15:23] Maestro Linden: right, because that just rotates the attachment
[2013/03/28 15:23] Lucia Nightfire: idt even using cam controls in mouselook will work either, forgot if I tested that
[2013/03/28 15:25] Theresa Tennyson: Are the interest list changes currently on Magnum also anywhere on Aditi? The Magnum sandboxes are a little sparse for testing.
[2013/03/28 15:26] Maestro Linden: we don't have many regions on that version, Theresa, but I think you should be able to visit CCMTEST18 on Aditi to test
[2013/03/28 15:26] Maestro Linden: though it's also pretty sparse
[2013/03/28 15:27] Maestro Linden: are you looking for regions that are developed?
[2013/03/28 15:27] Maestro Linden: (lots of buildings and objects to look at)
[2013/03/28 15:27] Theresa Tennyson: Yes - I think part of the problem with sim crossings is having a lot of information to pull over.
[2013/03/28 15:28] Theresa Tennyson: Though I have to admit that the Magnum sandboxes are working well compared to how they have in the past.
[2013/03/28 15:28] Maestro Linden: well, the information about non-crossing objects isn't passed with a region crossing; it's just data about the avatar and the vehicle etc
[2013/03/28 15:28] Rex Cronon: u could make a sim that has only a few objects on it
[2013/03/28 15:28] Maestro Linden: the viewer is connected to both regions both before and after the crossing (that's how you can see into neighboring regions)
[2013/03/28 15:28] Maestro Linden: there are a bunch of Agni mainland regions on Magnum
[2013/03/28 15:28] Maestro Linden: want a few names?
[2013/03/28 15:29] Maestro Linden: ANWR is magnum.. I like that region
[2013/03/28 15:29] Theresa Tennyson: Thanks!
[2013/03/28 15:29] Maestro Linden: so is Ahern, which tends to be heavily loaded (probably atypically so)
[2013/03/28 15:30] Maestro Linden: Afredo, Agapema, Ahndang, Akhsharumova, Ambedkar ...
[2013/03/28 15:30] Maestro Linden: several of the 'Bay City' regions are Magnum too
[2013/03/28 15:30] Theresa Tennyson: For crossings it really helps to have a cluster though.
[2013/03/28 15:32] Maestro Linden: Bay City - Brewster and Bay City - Sandwich are magnum neighbors
[2013/03/28 15:32] Theresa Tennyson: That would work - thank you!
[2013/03/28 15:32] Maestro Linden: Bay City - Harwich is next to them too
[2013/03/28 15:33] Maestro Linden: unfortunately I don't have a very good 'map' type view which shows the channel/version info
[2013/03/28 15:33] Lucia Nightfire: can someone look at or consider https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-2007 before magic boxes are killed in the next few weeks
[2013/03/28 15:34] Maestro Linden: I can pass it on
[2013/03/28 15:35] Lucia Nightfire: thanks
[2013/03/28 15:36] Lucia Nightfire: also, has there been any progress on this crasher: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SEC-1204
[2013/03/28 15:36] Maestro Linden: I don't see any updates for that particular one
[2013/03/28 15:37] Lucia Nightfire: I can still crash regions banning somone during their sendhome/eject
[2013/03/28 15:40] Maestro Linden: Hm, we're a bit short on topics this week. Maybe we should adjourn early?
[2013/03/28 15:40] Rex Cronon: btw. thank you maestro for the link to lsl casting:)
[2013/03/28 15:40] Margithe: hah, if you want topics, i got topics!
[2013/03/28 15:40] Maestro Linden: oh, sure thing Rex
[2013/03/28 15:40] Lucia Nightfire: lets fill the rest of the jmeeting with a wishlist
[2013/03/28 15:41] Lucia Nightfire: like that string byte size function, for starters
[2013/03/28 15:41] Kallista Arliss (kallista.destiny): Thanks
[2013/03/28 15:42] Lucia Nightfire: are there any more shineys coming soon other than the particle additions?
[2013/03/28 15:43] Duckie Dickins: resurrec this on the wish list. :) https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6480
[2013/03/28 15:43] Duckie Dickins: resurrect even...
[2013/03/28 15:44] tehKellz (kelly.linden): Sockets are probably not going to be added to LSL.
[2013/03/28 15:44] Maestro Linden: Not that I know of, Lucia, though the AO stuff also took me by surprise
[2013/03/28 15:44] Lucia Nightfire: ya, same
[2013/03/28 15:44] tehKellz (kelly.linden): I'm working on small shinys but I don't like talking about them until they get through internal QA in case they explode.
[2013/03/28 15:45] tehKellz (kelly.linden): maybe in a week or two
[2013/03/28 15:45] Blake Burger: So Maestro, is there any chance a region function will be made in the future that sim owners/managers can require people that enter to be using the latest SL Viewer version?
[2013/03/28 15:45] Theresa Tennyson: Has the problem of adjusting avatar elevation with server-side baking been looked at further?
[2013/03/28 15:45] Whirly Fizzle: Serverside baking I guess will be the next big shiny
[2013/03/28 15:45] Rex Cronon: u r making bling, kelly:)
[2013/03/28 15:45] tehKellz (kelly.linden): Rex: always
[2013/03/28 15:46] Duckie Dickins: :( I don't know anything more blingy than sockets...but oh well. :)
[2013/03/28 15:47] Maestro Linden: I'm not sure about that SSB avatar height issue, Theresa; you may need to ask Nyx Linden about that
[2013/03/28 15:47] Whirly Fizzle: Theres a replacement, it a hover option that you set in your shape
[2013/03/28 15:47] Whirly Fizzle: But it doesnt cover all the use cases
[2013/03/28 15:47] Blake Burger: /me looks at maestro hoping for that function... :p
[2013/03/28 15:47] Whirly Fizzle: Doesnt work on no mod shapes and its no good for adjusting on the fly when sitting
[2013/03/28 15:48] Whirly Fizzle: But its better then nothing
[2013/03/28 15:48] Lucia Nightfire: Blake, people spoof viewer version and make all teh time though, lol
[2013/03/28 15:48] Margithe: I've been thinking about sim crossings, between sims with different server versions. Thats is always a bumpy ride, right now it propels you forward like 30 meters or so.. That is rather bound to happen, more or less, between versions. So i have a question- would it be somehow possible to put bigger chunks of mainland under the same version? Since crossing inbetween them 8one sim here, one sim there etc) is always going to create problems
[2013/03/28 15:48] Lucia Nightfire: just look at your grief/copybot clients
[2013/03/28 15:48] Theresa Tennyson: Would it be possible to access the hover parameter from a script?
[2013/03/28 15:49] Lares Carter: Any news about Experience Permissions?
[2013/03/28 15:49] Blake Burger: at least if they are smart enough to do that they would understand why some things dont work on older versions.... the "newer users" just dont get it... -lol
[2013/03/28 15:50] Maestro Linden: In theory you could have a sim filter access by that, Blake, but I'm not sure if that would be something the product team would like.
[2013/03/28 15:50] Whirly Fizzle: Serverside baking will kill off old versions ;)
[2013/03/28 15:50] Maestro Linden: I hear it's in testing, Lares.
[2013/03/28 15:50] Duckie Dickins: Bigger chunks of mainland on the same server version would be nice....sometimes while flying i spin out of control for 15 seconds before arriving...usually when going from Le Tigre to the main release.
[2013/03/28 15:50] Lares Carter: Nice, thanks.
[2013/03/28 15:50] Blake Burger: yeah when do we get the new awesome tools?
[2013/03/28 15:51] Theresa Tennyson: Only 15 seconds of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride at a sim crossing? That's pretty good.
[2013/03/28 15:52] Margithe: I think making more of the crossings be on the same sever version would remove a lot of poor sim-crossing expiriences.
[2013/03/28 15:52] Duckie Dickins: yeah..unfortunately if you're too close to a corner you end up crossing another sim line when you come out of the spin. :)
[2013/03/28 15:53] Margithe: right now it's quite a bit of a sever-version patch quilt.
[2013/03/28 15:53] Maestro Linden: well, it would help in cases like Havok version upgrades, when you're driving a mesh vehicle
[2013/03/28 15:54] Maestro Linden: (in the past few havok version upgrades, you couldn't drive a vehicle from the newer havok version to the older havok version)
[2013/03/28 15:55] Lucia Nightfire: I'd like a land owner tool to read the impact an agent's connection is having on the region's net timing.
[2013/03/28 15:55] Margithe: Right. I think in the past, a region owner could request to be on a certain release channel, but full sim owners on mainland are rather scarce these days
[2013/03/28 15:55] Duckie Dickins: just do it by continent. :) Corsica could be LeTigre.....Zindra could be BlueSteel....and so forth. :)
[2013/03/28 15:56] Margithe: Even if the continents were divided, it would be quite handy to have at least bigger chunks of each version.
[2013/03/28 15:57] Inara Breen: Talking of Havok, anything in the works at LL regarding further Havok updates in light of the recent release? re: http://www.havok.com/news-and-press/releases/havok-unleashes-next-gen-physics
[2013/03/28 15:57] Lucia Nightfire: you can still request that if you're a manager for a group that owns a majority of the land in a region if you have a viable reason for the change.
[2013/03/28 15:58] Lucia Nightfire: viable as in performance related mostly
[2013/03/28 15:58] Maestro Linden: No, I don't have any news about that; I've heard that it's a complete rewrite of their engine, so it seems like it would be a pretty major project
[2013/03/28 15:59] Lucia Nightfire: plug n play, lol
[2013/03/28 15:59] Inara Breen: /me nods....just wondered if anyone had had the chance to poke at it with a stick...even an exceptionally long stick ....
[2013/03/28 16:00] Lucia Nightfire: well, tahts the meeting, heh
[2013/03/28 16:00] Margithe: /me laughs
[2013/03/28 16:01] Maestro Linden: Yep!
[2013/03/28 16:01] Maestro Linden: Thanks for coming, everybody!
[2013/03/28 16:01] Margithe: Thank you for having us here again :)
[2013/03/28 16:01] Whirly Fizzle: Thank you :)
[2013/03/28 16:01] Blake Burger: cya next week everyone. :)
[2013/03/28 16:01] Nal (nalates.urriah): Thx
[2013/03/28 16:01] Rex Cronon: tc maestro, kelly
[2013/03/28 16:01] Yuzuru (yuzuru.jewell): Thank you, Maestro.
[2013/03/28 16:01] Rex Cronon: tc everybody and have a nice day:)
[2013/03/28 16:01] Inara Breen: Thanks, Maestro, Kelly
