[2015/03/19 15:02] nolink (whirly.fizzle): lol Jenna [2015/03/19 15:02] Nal (nalates.urriah): Hi Inara [2015/03/19 15:02] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Hai Inara [2015/03/19 15:03] Rex Cronon: hello everybody [2015/03/19 15:03] Jenna Felton: hi Rex :) [2015/03/19 15:03] Gibson Firehawk: /me waves [2015/03/19 15:03] Jenna Felton: and Gibson [2015/03/19 15:03] Inara Breen: /me waves to Rx and Gibson [2015/03/19 15:03] rcdsQueChatLog: State changed.{click me to get the url} [2015/03/19 15:04] Rex Cronon: hi jenna [2015/03/19 15:04] Rex Cronon: hi gibson [2015/03/19 15:04] Caleb Linden: Looks like it's open dance floor today. Simon is working on code as usual. [2015/03/19 15:04] Rex Cronon: hi inara [2015/03/19 15:05] Rex Cronon: i guess u have the floor to do some break dance caleb:) [2015/03/19 15:05] Caleb Linden: np [2015/03/19 15:06] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Its quiet today. We need more server bugs [2015/03/19 15:06] Caleb Linden: yeah [2015/03/19 15:06] Caleb Linden: none the less, i am expecting more group chat noise [2015/03/19 15:06] Caleb Linden: we are in the process of deploying simon [2015/03/19 15:06] Caleb Linden: s [2015/03/19 15:06] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Group chat has been really well behaved! [2015/03/19 15:07] Caleb Linden: latest code phase wise [2015/03/19 15:07] Caleb Linden: that's great news Whirly [2015/03/19 15:07] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Oh good, so its going to break again soon then ;) [2015/03/19 15:07] Caleb Linden: knock on wood 2x [2015/03/19 15:08] Rex Cronon: how come last week during the group chat test i got some weird messages? [2015/03/19 15:09] Kallista Arliss (kallista.destiny): I have a question, has anybody played with the parameters of the Grey Goo fence recently that is the limits on temp-on-rez objects. I ask because I've seen several halts in rezzing followed by a flurry of rezzes. [2015/03/19 15:09] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Weird how? [2015/03/19 15:09] Lucia Nightfire: maybe you don't have many language packs installed? [2015/03/19 15:09] Caleb Linden: According on the server forum, there was some confusion on the new RC that came out this week. it was merely some name change, but functionally it's the same as the previous RC [2015/03/19 15:09] Lucia Nightfire: I say that because you're the XP King, heh [2015/03/19 15:10] Rex Cronon: after i close both group chats i got an error that some service was unavailable [2015/03/19 15:10] Rex Cronon: i don't remember the error message [2015/03/19 15:10] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Oh huh. I didn't see that [2015/03/19 15:11] Rex Cronon: and lucy u can't blame everything on a os:) [2015/03/19 15:11] Lucia Nightfire: oh I can with XP, heh [2015/03/19 15:11] Lucia Nightfire: esp SP2 [2015/03/19 15:11] Rex Cronon: nope.for that i would need to be using win 3.1:) [2015/03/19 15:11] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Tools-update will get Rex all fixed up with a new OS ;) [2015/03/19 15:11] Lucia Nightfire: fixed or forced? [2015/03/19 15:12] Caleb Linden: What viewer are you using with XP? [2015/03/19 15:12] Rex Cronon: Second Life 3.7.6 (289164) Apr 16 2014 15:15:22 (Test 123) [2015/03/19 15:12] arton Rotaru: can it show mesh? :p [2015/03/19 15:12] Rex Cronon: yes [2015/03/19 15:12] Lucia Nightfire: and textures, heh [2015/03/19 15:13] Lucia Nightfire: you're nto using CDN then [2015/03/19 15:13] nolink (whirly.fizzle): CDN is serverside [2015/03/19 15:13] Rex Cronon: what has cdn to do with group chat? [2015/03/19 15:13] Lucia Nightfire: not talking abotu group chat [2015/03/19 15:14] Rex Cronon: what kind of "fix" r u talking about whirly? [2015/03/19 15:14] Lucia Nightfire: so when do we get that offline IM extension thing? [2015/03/19 15:15] Caleb Linden: not sure :) it's PM thing [2015/03/19 15:15] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Its not a fix lol. I was being a meanie. The toolchain update LL are soon(tm) releasing - viewers built on it won't run on XP at all, even with the latest service packs. Its not a forced block like before, they just won't work. [2015/03/19 15:17] nolink (whirly.fizzle): You can still do what you're doing now though and use an old build with the channel changed to work past the forced updates [2015/03/19 15:17] Rex Cronon: unless m$ decides to give win10 for free i guess this is the last u will see of me [2015/03/19 15:18] Lucia Nightfire: thought they rolled it out free for awhile [2015/03/19 15:18] Jenna Felton: i beleive MS did [2015/03/19 15:18] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Win 10 is supposed to be free for win 7 & 8 users. Not sure about XP & Vista [2015/03/19 15:18] arton Rotaru: question is how long it is free though [2015/03/19 15:18] Jenna Felton: ah [2015/03/19 15:18] nolink (whirly.fizzle): 1 year they say [2015/03/19 15:19] Caleb Linden: huh [2015/03/19 15:19] arton Rotaru: yeah that's not so free then [2015/03/19 15:19] Caleb Linden: any verdicts of win 10 yet? [2015/03/19 15:19] Rex Cronon: linux here i come:) [2015/03/19 15:19] nolink (whirly.fizzle): WEll, you have to upgrade within a year of release but it stays free if you upgrade [2015/03/19 15:20] arton Rotaru: I'd rather wait until it's released finally, and they actually say what will happen after the first year [2015/03/19 15:20] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Havnt tried qin 10. Ill probably update my latop when its out & see what its like. [2015/03/19 15:20] Kallista Arliss (kallista.destiny): Although there are rumors that M$ will make some future version of Windows, be a subscription product. [2015/03/19 15:20] nolink (whirly.fizzle): *win [2015/03/19 15:21] arton Rotaru: subscription only model would suck big balls [2015/03/19 15:21] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Tanks been using the win 10 dev preview for ages. he seems to like it. But then again, he likes win 8 too.... [2015/03/19 15:21] Caleb Linden: agreed [2015/03/19 15:21] Lucia Nightfire: heh [2015/03/19 15:22] arton Rotaru: subscription model would make sense though, because rumors also say you can upgrade a prirate copy of win7,8 to 10 [2015/03/19 15:23] Rex Cronon: won't that apply only to china? [2015/03/19 15:23] arton Rotaru: perhaps Rex [2015/03/19 15:24] Rex Cronon: btw. who knows what kind of messages does a viewer send to the sim to make the ave not move when you push the ave? [2015/03/19 15:25] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Like when an avi has movelock enabled? [2015/03/19 15:26] Jenna Felton: when i am not wrong, the avatar was stil moving, it was just looking as standing on same place, in the hope the griefer would think their weapon is not working [2015/03/19 15:26] Lucia Nightfire: rephrase your answer in the form of a question, heh [2015/03/19 15:26] Jenna Felton: and stop griefing [2015/03/19 15:26] Rex Cronon: yes. although u can push/move [2015/03/19 15:26] Jenna Felton: what messages do tht, no idea [2015/03/19 15:26] Jenna Felton: that* [2015/03/19 15:27] Rex Cronon: no looking like. the scanner shows same position [2015/03/19 15:27] Kallista Arliss (kallista.destiny): Ground sit should do that. [2015/03/19 15:27] Lucia Nightfire: I'm still not understanding the question [2015/03/19 15:27] Rex Cronon: wasn't sitting [2015/03/19 15:27] arton Rotaru: the viewer tells the sim; "Stop or my mom will shoot" :p [2015/03/19 15:28] Rex Cronon: u have seen it happen lucy [2015/03/19 15:28] Rex Cronon: at swt when somebody is not sitting but nothing will push/move them [2015/03/19 15:28] Lucia Nightfire: ugh [2015/03/19 15:28] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Dunno. I have movelock enabled atm [2015/03/19 15:28] Jenna Felton: i think the question was how the viewer makes it possible to movelock the avatar and what it exchanges with the simulator to do so :) [2015/03/19 15:29] Rex Cronon: i assume movelock available only on tpd [2015/03/19 15:29] Rex Cronon: tpv* [2015/03/19 15:29] Lucia Nightfire: the server thinks they're sitting as llGetAgentInfo() shows they're sitting [2015/03/19 15:29] Lucia Nightfire: you can't rely on visuals alone [2015/03/19 15:29] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Oh really? So I show as sitting? [2015/03/19 15:30] Lucia Nightfire: no [2015/03/19 15:30] Rex Cronon: llgetagentinfo doesn't show they r sitting [2015/03/19 15:30] arton Rotaru: yeah, could be a simple animation offset [2015/03/19 15:30] Lucia Nightfire: but you're no imoveable though, heh [2015/03/19 15:30] Caleb Linden: standing to me [2015/03/19 15:30] Lucia Nightfire: *not immovable [2015/03/19 15:31] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Hmm make me move [2015/03/19 15:31] nolink (whirly.fizzle): :P [2015/03/19 15:31] Lucia Nightfire: gah stupid HUD [2015/03/19 15:31] Lucia Nightfire: you're not on the target list [2015/03/19 15:32] Lucia Nightfire: because it can't show everyone [2015/03/19 15:32] Lucia Nightfire: !deny whirl [2015/03/19 15:32] nolink (whirly.fizzle): WHEEEEEE [2015/03/19 15:32] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Griffer :P [2015/03/19 15:32] arton Rotaru: lol [2015/03/19 15:32] Lucia Nightfire: you're not sitting, you're using llMoveToTarget() [2015/03/19 15:32] Lucia Nightfire: you're movable [2015/03/19 15:32] Rex Cronon: i don't have all my tools here [2015/03/19 15:34] Jenna Felton: i also have an other question :) [2015/03/19 15:36] Jenna Felton: are there any reports that the viewer would crash the router, probably by grabing the cache and crashing running. So when the second instance of the viewer starts to download and display the world, the router crashes? [2015/03/19 15:36] Rex Cronon: what router? [2015/03/19 15:36] Jenna Felton: i had that problem recently, and had to restart the router to be able to have internet even. [2015/03/19 15:36] Jenna Felton: A fritbox [2015/03/19 15:37] Jenna Felton: fritzbox [2015/03/19 15:37] nolink (whirly.fizzle): I can see that happening if the router just barfed over too many connections. That can happen with only 1 instance running [2015/03/19 15:37] arton Rotaru: I have a fritzbox 3370, and had never happen something like that [2015/03/19 15:37] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Theres a lot of routers out there that just crap out on SL [2015/03/19 15:37] Jenna Felton: mine is FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170 [2015/03/19 15:37] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Though that problem is better then it was [2015/03/19 15:38] Caleb Linden: not that i know of. whether there is a report yet [2015/03/19 15:38] Jenna Felton: that problem started about last week, but i can not say it stoped, Right now the cache is cleaned and small and the problem is gone. So i dont know even how to reproduce .) [2015/03/19 15:39] Rex Cronon: go to a sim that is being griefed... [2015/03/19 15:39] Jenna Felton: ok [2015/03/19 15:39] Jenna Felton: i can watch if when i close the viewe it is stil there and give a report, though [2015/03/19 15:41] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Linksys WRT and Belkin G series routers are the ones known to crap out when connected to SL. [2015/03/19 15:41] arton Rotaru: looks like the 7170 is quite dated by now [2015/03/19 15:42] Jenna Felton: yes, we need the second one, but had no chance for that [2015/03/19 15:42] arton Rotaru: usually AVM fritzbox routers are the best you can get over here [2015/03/19 15:42] Caleb Linden: let me check if there is jira for it yet [2015/03/19 15:43] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Theres loads but they are all pretty old. The problem used to be much worse in the past before Monty's HTTP changes [2015/03/19 15:43] Jenna Felton: i could not find one, but i am not good on finding things, thank you Caleb [2015/03/19 15:43] Rex Cronon: imo asus is quite qood [2015/03/19 15:44] Caleb Linden: it's the router crashing not the viewer, right? [2015/03/19 15:44] Jenna Felton: is there a table somewhere what routers are bad for SL? [2015/03/19 15:44] Jenna Felton: yes, the router is crashed [2015/03/19 15:44] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Just one issue https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-29091 [2015/03/19 15:45] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Most just got closed as contact support tbh [2015/03/19 15:45] Jenna Felton: i log off my one avatar, than try to log in with another, than see myself in the new world loading and then it stays loading and i see, the internet is gone. [2015/03/19 15:46] Jenna Felton: it seems to happen at the moment of rezzing the world. [2015/03/19 15:46] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Makes sense, because thats when the connection gets slammed [2015/03/19 15:46] arton Rotaru: maybe the router has it's best days behind it [2015/03/19 15:47] Caleb Linden: same with XP :P [2015/03/19 15:47] arton Rotaru: lol [2015/03/19 15:48] Rex Cronon: u think that the latest window version doesn't crash at swt if u being griefed caleb:) [2015/03/19 15:48] Rex Cronon: if u r* [2015/03/19 15:49] Jenna Felton: thank you Whirly, for me there is no error. But how i came to the viewer is crashed and grabed the cache. As i tried to clean cache manually, windows declined that with the message "the cache folder is used by firestorm", and then i have found that there is firestorm running with 2 threads, and i have no way to close that process, i have to restart the PC. I giess that was the worsest case, since prevously waiting 10 minutes or so worked, that is the time until i go to the router to restart it :) [2015/03/19 15:49] arton Rotaru: actually I can't remember when my w7 crashed [2015/03/19 15:49] Jenna Felton: "for me there is no error" means no error message like in this jira post [2015/03/19 15:50] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Did the viewer actually crah to desktop or did you get the "you have been disconnected" ding? [2015/03/19 15:50] Jenna Felton: no, i just logged out [2015/03/19 15:50] Rex Cronon: jenna i heard of a program that allows you to terminate any thread [2015/03/19 15:50] Jenna Felton: as usual [2015/03/19 15:50] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Hmm it should have closed cleanly though [2015/03/19 15:50] nolink (whirly.fizzle): You should be able to delete the cache folder manually as soon as the viewer quits [2015/03/19 15:51] Jenna Felton: yes, but seemed that there was something not allowing it to clean completelly [2015/03/19 15:51] Jenna Felton: to close [2015/03/19 15:51] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Depends how long its taking to zip up the cache on logout I guess. But Im fairly sure once the viewer shows as logged out the cache is already compressed. If the cache is taking a long time to compress & write to the cache folder the logout will be hung waiting [2015/03/19 15:52] nolink (whirly.fizzle): I can only guess without seeing logs from that session though [2015/03/19 15:52] Jenna Felton: uhm, compressed cache? I see every texture as single file, or you mean an object cache whirly? [2015/03/19 15:53] nolink (whirly.fizzle): Inventory cache gets compressed [2015/03/19 15:53] Jenna Felton: ah [2015/03/19 15:54] nolink (whirly.fizzle): You couldnt force end FS from task manager even? [2015/03/19 15:54] arton Rotaru: how large is your cache [2015/03/19 15:54] arton Rotaru: I have only 175 MB in texture cache [2015/03/19 15:55] Jenna Felton: right now it is 1.89GB on a 3.5GB large ramdisc [2015/03/19 15:55] Jenna Felton: i think it was about 2GB used [2015/03/19 15:55] arton Rotaru: I have it set to 2GB as well, but not on a ramdisc [2015/03/19 15:56] Jenna Felton: when the viewer has to complete the ziping and there was some fighting with the ramdisc driver , perhaps that kept it alive [2015/03/19 15:56] nolink (whirly.fizzle): If it happens again Jenna. keep your logs folder to one side from that bad session [2015/03/19 15:57] Jenna Felton: the entire drive is an esception by the antivirus program, to avoud stupid checks [2015/03/19 15:57] Jenna Felton: yes i will think about it Whirly [2015/03/19 15:58] Jenna Felton: and closing from the task manager was not possible, it stood alive [2015/03/19 15:59] Jenna Felton: i used to have a program that killed other processes, but not in this installaton [2015/03/19 15:59] Jenna Felton: i missed that kill -9 from linux :)
