Bug triage/2007-10-17/Transcript
Agenda
Kooky Jetaime: Hi Torly
Kooky Jetaime: Torley
Daedalus Young: hi Torley
Aric Linden: anyway, let's get started on triage. kooky if you don't want to bother, let me know
Aric Linden: heya torley
Torley Linden: Hello all! Sorry I'm late... was in the middle of internal bug triage with Don.
Torley Linden: Hey Aric, Kooky, Daed, all!
Aric Linden: we're just about to start
Torley Linden: Awesome!
Kooky Jetaime: in the interest of accuracy, I'm gonna pass on this one Aric.. I'd probably screw it up anywho
Aric Linden: ok. thanks anyway kooky
Kooky Jetaime: No problem
Harleen Gretzky: Hi Torley
Aric Linden: VWR-1146
Torley Linden: *looks*
Aric Linden: let's take this one.
Torley Linden: Hmmm looks like that's a good repro.
Torley Linden: *imports*
Aric Linden: it looks like it's a hot button topic too
Torley Linden: *nods*
Aric Linden: VWR-2680\
Aric Linden: erm
Aric Linden: VWR-2680
McPhenius Swain: Could I interject real quick on 2680
Aric Linden: please
McPhenius Swain: I had a ATI card several months ago that did this.. I thought it was card going bad, bought a Nvidia 6200.. worked fine... I just upgraded to a 7600gs about 4 weeks ago and this has happened 3 times
Aric Linden: McPhenius, can I ask you, where are you IRL?
McPhenius Swain: screen goes black (no certain time) and I have to reboot.. I even disconnected from 500w power supply
McPhenius Swain: Florida (Miami area)
Aric Linden: ahh. did you upgrade your drivers?
Aric Linden: to the current version of the native drivers?
McPhenius Swain: yes, to ones listed in 2680
Aric Linden: ahh. ok.
Aric Linden: because I think with these users, the problem might be that they updated to the current versions of an international driver
McPhenius Swain: the day I got the card.. I honestly thought it was issue with power supply, so I discconneted.. I could be using SL for four hours then it can happen out of nowhere, so not consistant at all and not at start up for me
Torley Linden recalls seeing previous "international driver" issues like that with Aric.
Aric Linden: yes, torley, that's what I was thinking
Aric Linden: with this particular issue, i think we should ask aboutthat
Torley Linden: Good idea.
Aric Linden: i suspect that these folks might be non-usa users
Torley Linden: I can add a comment...
Aric Linden: with McPhenius tho, i'm not sure what to say
Aric Linden: i'm curious, do you have surge protection on your computer?
McPhenius Swain: I do not get the "error" they mention, just the "black" screen and monitor flickers into power saver mode (not activated in windows)
McPhenius Swain: Yes
Daedalus Young: yes, original poster has French as 1st language in profile
Torley Linden: Good observation, Daed.
McPhenius Swain: yes
Torley Linden: Issue Tracker is being slow on me...
Second Life: Your object 'Object' has been returned to your inventory lost and found folder from parcel 'Kang Rinpoche / Mount Meru -- Milarepa Mountain Retreat' at Seefeld 150.704, 31.5916 due to parcel auto return.
Torley Linden: *updates the wiki page*
Kooky Jetaime: Not to bad for me today
Aric Linden grins
Kooky Jetaime: McP
Aric Linden: I love it when i get to be a detective
Torley Linden: Gotta keep going no matter what, hehe.
McPhenius Swain: lol
Torley Linden: The plot thickens!
Kooky Jetaime: if the whole screen goes blank, are you using in Fullscreen or window?
McPhenius Swain: yes I am
McPhenius Swain: I am running in a window
Kooky Jetaime: Ok
Torley Linden: Hey Daed, where'd you see that re: French in profile?
McPhenius Swain: With the ATI, it worked fine for months, then out of the blue happened all the time.. the 6200 (Nvidia) did not require power supply hook up and that worked flawlessly
Daedalus Young: in the profile, Interests Tab
Daedalus Young: also About is written in French
Aric Linden: but the crashing is random?
Kooky Jetaime: Because if your screen is changing resolutions when you start SL, it sounds like its trying to go Fullscreen, and its going to an incompatable display mode (so the screen in an attempt to protect itself) switches off (powersave)
McPhenius Swain: When I plugged the 7600gs into PS, it failed.. so I unplugged.. but.. happened 3 times in one month
Torley Linden: AHHH inworld, I see Daed. Thanks. I was looking up their JIRA profile, d'oh.
Aric Linden: wow, kooky, nicely done!
McPhenius Swain: Possibly...
Daedalus Young: ahh ok
Kooky Jetaime: ... reads torleys mind: good comment, put it on the jira...
Torley Linden: Hahaha.
Aric Linden: about detective stuff?
Aric Linden: we're all about transparency
Torley Linden: Are we ready to go to the next issue? :)
Aric Linden: is just kidding
McPhenius Swain: Im good :)
GANJA Toshi: hi
Daedalus Young: hi
Aric Linden: yep VWR-1630
McPhenius Swain: Hi
GANJA Toshi: can i sit here?
Torley Linden: Sure can GANJA... :)
GANJA Toshi: thanks
Kooky Jetaime: As commented, that looks like a Meta Flight issue
GANJA Toshi: di che si parla?
Kooky Jetaime: it started with 1 problem but quickly ballooned into flight
Daedalus Young: I've had it happen once when gravity was ignored on my av
Torley Linden: Yeah, the original reporter wishes to focus it, which is a good idea.
Daedalus Young: but tping back and forth fixed that
Kooky Jetaime: Torley - With the number of Meta issues, perhaps its time for a catagory : META- that only holds Meta issues and links to the SVC/MISC/VWR/etc catagories?
Torley Linden: This would be useful to have a video repro...
Torley Linden: Kooky, Rob's wanted to create something like that. I can check with him.
Gigs Taggart: This isn't the one where your fly mode gets inverted, is it?
Kooky Jetaime: Might make it easier to find topics pertaining to something
Torley Linden: I suggest making this one "Cannot Repro"... since the original reporter has not had this problem recently.
Torley Linden: And doesn't look like any clues on how to make this particular issue recur.
Daedalus Young: agreed
Torley Linden: What do you all think?
Gigs Taggart: yes
Aric Linden: maybe wear the hug
Aric Linden: erm hud
Daedalus Young: oof, I just had 4 seconds Ping Sim
Gigs Taggart: the next one, VWR-2559 is already imported, skip it
Torley Linden: Cool.
Aric Linden: i don't think this one is importable as is
Aric Linden: (got sidetracked)
Second Life: Your object 'Object' has been returned to your inventory lost and found folder by Musashi-Do Management from parcel 'Musashi-Do Main Fashion Shop' at Anton 194.447, 111.232 due to parcel auto return.
Aric Linden: shall we move to VWR-2518
Torley Linden: Yes we shall!
Gigs Taggart: yeah, 2518 is a very hot problem, though I'm not sure if it's duplicated
Daedalus Young: ahh, an oldie
Torley Linden: Hm, for VWR-2518, I think I'd re-resolve it... since if the problem IS VBO, VBO is improved in WindLight and the First Look of that is hopefully not too far away.
Gigs Taggart: cool!
Daedalus Young: in terms of "we've seen this one before"
Gigs Taggart: Torley, you are letting them out every now and then to eat right?
Kooky Jetaime: Is this only in the RC, or did this carry over to 18.5?
Gigs Taggart: Kooky the RC was released without further change from 3.5
Torley Linden: Gigs: Haha... yes, can't die of starvation...
Torley Linden: OK, I re-resolved 2518. Next!
Kooky Jetaime: Was there anything different in the compile options between the RC or was it just repackaged alone?
Aric Linden: I think we should comment this as "being worked on internally"
Torley Linden: Yup Aric I did that...
Aric Linden: thanks torley
Aric Linden: great minds
Aric Linden: VWR-1081
Torley Linden: Hehe, GMTA!
Torley Linden: Hm, this is something that Dan was looking for Open Source help on...
Torley Linden: part of his frequent crashes list.
Gigs Taggart: yeah I'm sure it's already internal somewhere
Torley Linden: Yeah me too.
Aric Linden: I wonder how we enlist help from the OS community beyond this
Aric Linden: Gigs? thoughts on that?
Second Life: Your object 'Object' has been returned to your inventory lost and found folder by Governor Linden from parcel at Voss 112.535, 247.379 due to parcel auto return.
Gigs Taggart: Typing an essay in this tiny bar would be difficult.
Torley Linden: :)
Kooky Jetaime: heh
Aric Linden: heh
Aric Linden: gigs, can we move this one to the monday triage?
Aric Linden: maybe someone there will take it
Gigs Taggart: it should be related to the OS bug
Gigs Taggart: "bugs suitable for open source fixing"
Aric Linden: yes
Torley Linden: Dan has a list of those frequent crashes somewhere... I think on the public wiki...
Torley Linden: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Crash_Reports
Gigs Taggart: VWR-1577
Torley Linden: Thanx Gigs!
Aric Linden: let's remind folks of this at the monday triage. I'll mention this to soft as well
Aric Linden: VWR-2726
Aric Linden: I'd love to have repro steps for this
Torley Linden: Yeah me too.
Torley Linden: When I do those steps, just the target folder expands, not ALL.
Torley Linden: Needs More Info?
Aric Linden: yes.
Aric Linden: please
Gigs Taggart: maybe this is because they are hovering over the folders?
Torley Linden: =)
Torley Linden: Hmmm yeah that should be mentioned in a repro then.
Gigs Taggart: I don't know
McPhenius Swain: Sorry, need to run irl
McPhenius Swain: take care everyone :)
Kooky Jetaime: ok
Daedalus Young: ok, see you later
Aric Linden: so long McPhenius
Torley Linden: See ya McPhenius!
Aric Linden: take care.
Aric Linden: VWR-2182
Torley Linden: Looks like good details in here, import for "bhear"?
Aric Linden: yes, i think so too
Torley Linden: *imports*
Torley Linden: Import is really crawling for me.
Torley Linden: Done.
Aric Linden: VWR-2437
Aric Linden: I think we should take this and talk to moss about it
Torley Linden: Hmm yeah this sounds like his area.
Torley Linden: *imports*
Aric Linden: VWR-2496
Harleen Gretzky: The extra one is to allow a sitting avatar
Aric Linden: there was just a thread about this
Aric Linden: I think this might be changing
Kooky Jetaime: oh, with H4?
Daedalus Young: yes, the problem is it allows linking of more than 254 prims while it shouldn't
Aric Linden nods
Gigs Taggart: This should be pretty easy to fix on the UI side of things
Kooky Jetaime: Basically it should Fail instead of do "next best thing"
Torley Linden: Yeah Gigs, that's what it seems like to me.
Gigs Taggart: I think tag this one for open source
Harleen Gretzky: And the UI error needs to be corrected
Torley Linden: Wanna link it to the OS meta-project Gigs? =)
Gigs Taggart: I can
Aric Linden: thanks
Torley Linden: Thanks!
Aric Linden: VWR-2490
Torley Linden: Is this one pretty obscure? Specific to Linux, it looks like?
Gigs Taggart: yeah it's linux
Gigs Taggart: I can try
Harleen Gretzky: seems so, what is teh purpose of uncommenting that line?
Gigs Taggart: no repro, it works properly
Gigs Taggart: close can't reproduce I say
Daedalus Young: *resolve ;)
Torley Linden: OK, thanks Gigs!
Torley Linden: Rollin' on...
Aric Linden: VWR-2669
Kooky Jetaime scratches his head at this one
Kooky Jetaime: I did some friending with Sai a week ago
Kooky Jetaime: and I was popping on and offline to him
Torley Linden: This repro isn't the most clear...
Aric Linden: yes
Gigs Taggart: This goes back to a recent bug
Aric Linden: let's take it and assign it to me. i'll have someone see if we can clean up the repro
Gigs Taggart: The "Make online status visible to friends" is misleading
Torley Linden: OK thanks Aric...
Gigs Taggart: in preferences
Kooky Jetaime: what am I missing in this?
Torley Linden: How so Gigs?
Gigs Taggart: The preferences thing overrides the per user blocks
Gigs Taggart: it's caused a lot of these non-bugs to be field
Gigs Taggart: filed
Gigs Taggart: even Becky in that bug misunderstands the intent of it
Kooky Jetaime: the Make my online status visible only to my fiends?
Kooky Jetaime: or something else?
Gigs Taggart: yeah that
Kooky Jetaime: uhm
Torley Linden: Hmmm that needs to be more clearly communicated, then.
Torley Linden: It's imported.
Harleen Gretzky: If it is unchecked then everyone can see your online status is they way I take it
Aric Linden: VWR-2697
Kooky Jetaime: well
Kooky Jetaime: Mines unclicked
Kooky Jetaime: and I show up as offline
Aric Linden: I think i recall a conversation with benjamin linden about cleaning up the wording on this
Harleen Gretzky: You don;t to me
Kooky Jetaime: Am I online or offline Gigs? (Give a sec for propigation)
Kooky Jetaime: I should have went online then off
Gigs Taggart: offline, but I should relog to see
Aric Linden: so i think we should figure out if there's a bug and then make sure the wording is right
Kooky Jetaime: want me to relog to?
Torley Linden: VWR-2697 looks like it'll be solved when VWR-882 is.
Kooky Jetaime: Right now, I am unchecked for "Make my online status visible only to my frineds"
Gigs Taggart: kooky you show online for me now
Kooky Jetaime: Hrm
Kooky Jetaime: Guess we do have a bug
Gigs Taggart: after I relogged your status changed
Daedalus Young: to me you're online in profile too
Aric Linden: agreed torley. let's link it and mark it as being worked internally
Kooky Jetaime: Daed - I should be in profile
Torley Linden: Yup, already linked, *marks it*
Kooky Jetaime: I don't have my box checkmarked so anyone can see me online
Daedalus Young: ok, just checking :)
Harleen Gretzky: That is they way it should be, when unchecked everyone can see your status, when checked only the friends you allow can see your status
Daedalus Young: that's how I understand it yes
Kooky Jetaime: but I shouldn't be online in his friends list Harleen
Kooky Jetaime: so there is a bug
Kooky Jetaime: From a friends standpoint I should be offline
Harleen Gretzky: You are still everyone to him
Aric Linden: VWR-2654
Kooky Jetaime: Friends is different though
Harleen Gretzky: not the way I take it, but you are taking it teh way Becky does
Kooky Jetaime: Harleen - and if i am still everyone, I shouldn't go offline when I flip the switch, I should stay on
Kooky Jetaime: so theres a bug here, just depends on what it is
Aric Linden: which is why we should have the RX team figure out what the wording should be
Torley Linden: Hmmm 2654 looks misfiled, plus they've already sent a support ticket, so they're just duplicating efforts.
Daedalus Young: general ruthing on loggin in
Kooky Jetaime: Aric- I dont' think the "only frineds" checkbox has anything to do with the friends list display
Kooky Jetaime: just if someone is your friend
Daedalus Young: relog in a void region should also fix it
Daedalus Young: unless grid is experiencing problems
Aric Linden: which is never
Torley Linden: Daed: Void -- any empty region or one of those watery Opensapces?
Torley Linden: *Openspaces
Daedalus Young: well, I usually take a watery region
Daedalus Young: any empty region should do, but sometimes some are in need of a restart
Torley Linden: Sounds good to close 2654 as misfiled? Opinions anyone else?
Torley Linden: :)
Aric Linden: i'm in complete agreement with you Torley
Aric Linden: :-)
Torley Linden: :D
Torley Linden: Cool.
Aric Linden: VWR-2747
Daedalus Young: could be codec related
Kooky Jetaime: Hm
Aric Linden: yes maybe
Kooky Jetaime: yes, because streams are working just fine for me
Kooky Jetaime: NMI
Kooky Jetaime: Region, stream, url
Torley Linden: We need more details for this...
Kooky Jetaime: and parcel
Daedalus Young: would need more info on it indeed
Torley Linden: Yes.
Aric Linden: I'd love the details here
Torley Linden: Great, thanks for the opinions guys.
Aric Linden: VWR-2715
Daedalus Young: (the GPU keeps freezing, heehee, mine's HOT!)
Torley Linden: Hrm.
Kooky Jetaime: He sure as hell gives system detail
Torley Linden: I wonder if this is more of a hardware issue than a viewer issue...
Torley Linden: the summary says viewer, but the description says it's the GPU.
Aric Linden: yeah, i suspect he built the machine himself
Aric Linden: and is trying to diagnose a problem
Kooky Jetaime: I'm gonna copy over my comment from the other issue since he said the screen went black but he hears SL
Torley Linden: Thanks Kooky.
Kooky Jetaime: sounds like it may sometimes be running but the monitor is trying to be used in an incompatable resolution/refresh
Torley Linden: Needs More Info or Cannot Reproduce for this one?
Aric Linden: or that the vbo issue is somehow coming in to play here as well
Aric Linden: given that it appears to be a custom configuration, i'm worried about trying to repro this
Aric Linden: but it's sad to let such an elegantly written bug go away
Torley Linden: I'd also suggest running some graphic benchmark stress tests...
Torley Linden: Yeah... :\
Torley Linden: Needs More Info then?
Aric Linden: agreed torley. and suggest the vbo disabling trick as well
Torley Linden: Will do.
Aric Linden: we've hit the hour
Aric Linden: let's break here
Aric Linden: wow. that one flew by
Aric Linden: thanks to all of you for your help and comments
Torley Linden: Time flies when you're... well, that's what they say, at least. :)
Kooky Jetaime: heheh
Gigs Taggart: Torley the camera/picking patch is done.
Kooky Jetaime: ok
Torley Linden: Yeah, totally, thanks so much for being here with us!
Torley Linden: OHH cool Gigs.
Kooky Jetaime: we covered a lot really
Gigs Taggart: Done enough to submit at least
Torley Linden: Was waiting about that.
Gigs Taggart: I hope you are able to apply it, because it's really just the first step in what I want to do there.
Aric Linden: see ya all on the flip side
Aric Linden: be happy
Gigs Taggart: later aric
Daedalus Young: bye Aric
Torley Linden: I haven't learned how to build my own viewers yet but it sounds exciting.
Kooky Jetaime: Hmm whats the patch Gigs?
Torley Linden: Have a good one Aric!
Torley Linden: I'm going to head out too but good to see you guys and hang out with you doing this. :)
Gigs Taggart: Kooky, it cleans up the picking in a huge way, and redoes the camera constraints to work right with hollow/twisted/etc
Gigs Taggart: the camera should spin around less
Daedalus Young: thanks Torley
Torley Linden: Yeah, that "spins 180 degree" thing!
Torley Linden: You're welcome Daed.
Daedalus Young: see you later too
Harleen Gretzky: bye all
Torley Linden: See ya soon! Byebye.
Daedalus Young: bye Harleen
