- [15:05] Torley Linden: dropping in... literally.
- [15:05] Prad Prathivi: Hey Torley =)
- [15:05] Torley Linden: doing great, holidays were quite quiet, a big change from what i'm used to... how about you?
- [15:05] Alexa Linden: :)
- [15:05] Spencer Dharnen: i got a message that you accepted my inventory offer twice, Torley....just FYI

- [15:05] Alexa Linden: Hi Kerry
- [15:05] Zuffy Frua: hiya, where is me? and more importantly will there be carrots?

- [15:06] Torley Linden: that the one?
- [15:06] Alexa Linden: and you can talk to Squerrek about carrots ;)
- [15:06] Spencer Dharnen: yes
- [15:06] Alexa Linden: Squirrel*

- [15:06] Spencer Dharnen: i think you have two copies now :-(
- [15:06] Squirrel Wood: heeh
- [15:06] Spencer Dharnen: sorry
- [15:06] Torley Linden: hmmm... interesting... i don't see an inventory offer message in my chat history. it should've told me that!
- [15:06] Torley Linden: no worries Spencer, i wonder if this is a new bug...
- [15:07] Spencer Dharnen: funny....i got two acceptance messages
- [15:07] Torley Linden: accepted your inventory offer.
- [15:07] Torley Linden: byproduct blessing, as i like to call it.
- [15:07] Spencer Dharnen: LOL
- [15:07] Zuffy Frua: hehe cool piccy ^_^
- [15:07] Torley Linden: *makes a note to investigate later*
- [15:07] Spencer Dharnen: is there a particular reason that i am the only one here in human form? i'm starting to feel self-conscious
- [15:07] Torley Linden: heya Jimmy!
- [15:08] Torley Linden: Spencer, oh i can be a human too... or human-esque... even skeletal like a Terminator...
- [15:08] Alexa Linden: LOL
- [15:08] Zuffy Frua: where your tail!!!
- [15:08] Alexa Linden: Zuffy!
- [15:08] Torley Linden: no particular reason tho.
- [15:08] Torley Linden: Second Life is what you make of it. Hehe.
- [15:08] Zuffy Frua: eeps!
- [15:08] Alexa Linden: :P
- [15:08] Aric Linden: sort of like first life, eh?
- [15:08] Alexa Linden: I pinged Bridie
- [15:08] Torley Linden: Aric: apparently so! =o)
- [15:08] Torley Linden: thanx Alexa.
- [15:08] Aric Linden: bridie is on her way, but
- [15:09] Aric Linden: has been mildy waylaid so
- [15:09] Torley Linden: i am now a waTERMINATORleymelonthing
- [15:09] Aric Linden: she asked me to drive a bit
- [15:09] Spencer Dharnen: lol
- [15:09] Zuffy Frua: nibbles a bit torley melon
- [15:09] Zuffy Frua: tastey
- [15:09] Alexa Linden: puts a seatbelt on and holds the chair
- [15:09] Spencer Dharnen: i shouldnt take up a seat....i have a feeling im going to have no idea what you all are about to discuss
- [15:09] Gellan Glenelg: hi
- [15:09] Aric Linden: As was discussed a couple of triages ago, she invited Steve Linden and Jimmy Linden to talk to us about the age verification issues listed as part of VWR-3787. Steve is one our studio directors and technical leads. Jimmy is part of our community and product management team. Both worked on age verification.
- [15:09] Xavier Irwin: oh PRAD, fancy seeing you here!
- [15:10] Aric Linden: grins broadly at alexa
- [15:10] Prad Prathivi: Hey Xav =P
- [15:10] Zuffy Frua: age verification doesnt seem to work, me tried it 3 times
- [15:10] Alexa Linden: what country are you in Zuffy>
- [15:10] Alexa Linden: ?*
- [15:10] Zuffy Frua: me in uk, scotland
- [15:10] Alexa Linden: ok
- [15:11] Prad Prathivi: Age Verification doesn't work for me either.. I'ma Brit too
- [15:11] Aric Linden: so with that in mind, let's have steve and jimmy give some background and field questions
- [15:11] Alexa Linden: yes, I seen quite a few stating this problem
- [15:11] Zuffy Frua: noticies room is full of lindens...and they probably know abouts age verification problems ^_^
- [15:11] Prad Prathivi: Tried with Passport and Driver's License
- [15:11] Xavier Irwin: me too
- [15:11] Aric Linden: Jimmy, would you mind giving and overview of the problems that AV was intended to address?
- [15:12] Torley Linden: I'm pinging Resis in the Aware of the SL Issue Tracker group to come if interested.
- [15:12] Jimmy Linden: sure
- [15:12] Aric Linden: Torley, that's excellent. thanks
- [15:12] Jimmy Linden: are we doing this in chat or voice?
- [15:12] Celierra Darling: poofs in
- [15:12] Aric Linden: chat please
- [15:12] Jimmy Linden: ahhhh, ok
- [15:12] Alexa Linden: cannot create objects here. The owner of this land does not allow it. Use the land tool to see land ownership.
- [15:12] Jimmy Linden: so let's get started, shall we?
- [15:13] Copy failed: because you lack permission to copy the object '[ mike's
- [15:13] Jimmy Linden: I'm Jimmy Linden, and I'm the product manager who's been working on age verification for the last 3 months or so
- [15:14] Jimmy Linden: age verification (and more broadly speaking, identity verification) has been something that has been considered for a while now
- [15:14] Bridie Linden: Finally! Sorry I'm late...TP woes.
- [15:14] Torley Linden: Bridie! Welcome in!
- [15:14] Jimmy Linden: but in the last several months there has been heightened awareness and need to improve landowners' ability to enforce age restriction to content that's adult in nature
- [15:15] Jimmy Linden: Hi Bridie!
- [15:15] Jimmy Linden: just giving a quick overview on AV
- [15:15] Bridie Linden: / Please continue Jimmy, thx!
- [15:15] Satine Darrow: Script run-time error
- [15:15] Satine Darrow: Too Many Listens
- [15:15] Jimmy Linden: so we've launch phase 1 of AV in beta as a way to address some immediate needs in the community
- [15:15] Hottt Slade: ur jus like laaa de da
- [15:16] Jimmy Linden: and beta is the operative word since we knew there would be kinks we could only work out in a production setting
- [15:16] Jimmy Linden: since launch, we've gotten some good feedback on how to improve this, which I believe is what we're here today to discuss
- [15:17] Bridie Linden: nods
- [15:17] Jimmy Linden: steve linden and I will take feedback from this meeting as well as other discussions to decide what's in store for version 2.0
- [15:18] Jimmy Linden: so with that, bridie, want to walk us through the pjira items?
- [15:18] Bridie Linden: Sure, I don't know if Steve wanted to add anything first?
- [15:18] Zuffy Frua: thought birdie would have wings
- [15:18] Alexa Linden: it's bridie ;)
- [15:18] Zuffy Frua: eeps!
- [15:18] Bridie Linden: Thx Alexa
- [15:19] Bridie Linden: :)
- [15:19] Zuffy Frua: ponies aint good at speelling ^_^
- [15:19] Bridie Linden: Steve?
- [15:19] Steve Linden: I don't have too much to add at this point.
- [15:19] Alexa Linden: lol
- [15:19] Bridie Linden: Ok, let's look @ the child issues for VWR-3787
- [15:19] Bridie Linden: First one...
- [15:19] Bridie Linden: VWR-3789 - It is still possible for an non-age verified account to view, interact with, purchase content in a restricted parcel
- [15:19] Aric Linden: It might be useful to take some questions from those present
- [15:20] Celierra Darling: ( [1] )
- [15:20] Bridie Linden: Sure, either way -
- [15:20] Bridie Linden: You can also click on spinning SL logo...
- [15:20] Zuffy Frua: me only has 1 question if you are taking them, how do i get age verificatoin to work? ive tried it several times with no success.
- [15:20] Bridie Linden: Steve commented on this one already...
- [15:21] Zuffy Frua: and im 35 years old
- [15:21] Celierra Darling: [Oops, thanks :) ]
- [15:21] Zuffy Frua: (thats of the record!)
- [15:21] Jimmy Linden: zuffy: have u tried recently?
- [15:21] Zuffy Frua: not in the last ... 3 weeks no
- [15:22] Zuffy Frua: i shall try again
- [15:22] Jimmy Linden: so we've made some changes to the process that mostly impacts international residents
- [15:22] Bridie Linden: nods
- [15:22] Jimmy Linden: if you're in the US, you might still have the same problem.
- [15:22] Zuffy Frua: is from UK
- [15:23] Bridie Linden: Is Matthew Dowd present?
- [15:23] Bridie Linden: is looking @ comments in 3789
- [15:23] Zuffy Frua: it should be noted that i havent actually needed to be age verified in anyway, just thought i should do it.
- [15:23] Jimmy Linden: the international verification process has been challenging given the wide ranging laws, policies, and sensitivities across countries. which is why we decided to partner with someone who understood the intl landscape.
- [15:23] Bridie Linden: So noted Zuffy! :)
- [15:24] Zuffy Frua: teehee
- [15:24] Zuffy Frua: IVE NOT BEEN TRYING TO LOOK AT PORN! Honest!
- [15:24] Bridie Linden: Moving right along...
- [15:24] Jimmy Linden: regarding 3789, Steve has commented on this and I'm not sure what I could add. I would like to get a sense from you all how critical u view this, relative to other pjiras..
- [15:25] Bridie Linden: nods to JImmy
- [15:25] Steve Linden: So, regarding parcel access...
- [15:25] Prad Prathivi: Ooooh - I just re-entered my details on the AV page and it's accepted them.. good work, guys =)
- [15:25] Squirrel Wood: I think content on restricted parcels should not be rendered at all for non verified avatars
- [15:25] Zuffy Frua: \o/
- [15:26] Steve Linden: That's really, really, tricky. For example, if you have a parcel with adult material that is visible from other parcels, how do we address that?
- [15:26] Mercia McMahon: esp as AV only works at ground level!
- [15:26] Squirrel Wood: the client could query parcel info for parcels within visual range and not render stuff based on it ?
- [15:26] Steve Linden: So, as per squirrel's suggestion, we could just not send any objects from that parcel so that it appears blank.
- [15:27] Steve Linden: But is that a look we really want?
- [15:27] Bridie Linden: hmms
- [15:28] Billie Scaggs: well i will say that it still doesnt work for me eventhough i have tried about 15 time since it implementation(including just now). As i've said a few times, i have lived in the same place for over 5 years, and i know who i am but your partner that does the verification doent believe me. its alot easier to go join a porn site and have acces to real adult content than verifying here to access virtual content
- [15:28] xBillie: el: pozo i dir que todava trabajo del doesnt para m eventhough yo
- ha intentado el tiempo cerca de 15 desde l apenas ahora
- implementation(including). Como tengo dicho algunas veces, he vivido
- [15:28] Billie Scaggs: sorry about the babbler
- [15:28] Squirrel Wood: It is actually easy enough to set up parcels that scream mature and show it on the outside
- [15:28] Alexa Linden: what country are you in?
- [15:28] Steve Linden: Alternately, we can say that if you have a parcel in a public area (like the mainland), the content -will- be visible by all, however you can restrict the chat and voice to the parcel using the parcel options.
- [15:28] Billie Scaggs: i am in the united states
- [15:28] Squirrel Wood: which would basically render the whole verification moot if it could be seen by non verified avs
- [15:28] Alexa Linden: thank you
- [15:28] Xavier Irwin: I am in the UK and have had a similar experience
- [15:29] Squirrel Wood: Alternately you could render the items using a generic texture mayhaps ?
- [15:29] Mercia McMahon: resttrict chat? Is that implemented?
- [15:29] Celierra Darling: Can chat from inside an AV parcel (or Mature sim for that matter) leak outside of them?
- [15:30] Steve Linden: Squirrel: Well, there are really two concerns addressed by age verification:
- [15:30] Steve Linden: 1. Viewing of mature content
- [15:30] Steve Linden: 2. Interaction between residents
- [15:31] Zuffy Frua: how do you stop a non age verified person from creating mature content?
- [15:31] Xavier Irwin: I also believe that as I subscribe to a system in the UK which stops me being placed on mailing lists, this is hindering the process of verification for me.
- [15:31] Steve Linden: Right now, our solution addresses 2. You can create a private parcel and restrict voice and chat to that parcel.
- [15:31] Mercia McMahon: Zuffy, you don't and that is not part of the current LL policy last I looked
- [15:31] Zuffy Frua: okies
- [15:32] Steve Linden: It is not clear how useful it is to try and enforce 1. After all, this is an unsolved problem on the web. Most of the concerns that I am aware of relate to #2, but Jimmy might have a better idea?
- [15:32] Jimmy Linden: Squirrel: I would be happy to work with you to diagnose why you're failing verification. If you've voted or have a driver's license, you should be verifiable against public records.
- [15:33] Squirrel Wood: My verification worked after like 20 to 30 tries
- [15:33] Squirrel Wood: Zuffy's is not working out
- [15:33] Zuffy Frua: squrrel is persistent though!
- [15:33] Alexa Linden: ^^
- [15:34] Billie Scaggs: jimmy, would you mind adding me to that list?
- [15:34] Bridie Linden: Steve, what -- if anything -- could be done client side? Could Open Source devs contribute viewer only 'feature'?
- [15:34] Bridie Linden: *s
- [15:35] Steve Linden: Bridie: regarding #1?
- [15:35] Bridie Linden: Yes
- [15:35] Steve Linden: We could not send content from restricted parcels. They would look empty.
- [15:35] Zuffy Frua: you could tag objects as being "mature" in nature
- [15:35] Zuffy Frua: or textures, or sounds
- [15:36] Steve Linden: I would not want to only send partial content from a parcel based on a flag - SL is a shared experience, it would be weird if individual objects were missing only
- [15:36] Zuffy Frua: Yup Yups
- [15:36] Steve Linden: But restricted parcels already show a 'no access' barrier
- [15:36] Squirrel Wood: mayhaps render "Mature content" on the ground of the parcels ?
- [15:37] Steve Linden: This would be non trivial on the simulator side, but we need to refactor that code anyway, so we could decide to do it then.
- [15:37] Zuffy Frua: restricting access to parcels that are mature seems good enough, me thinks
- [15:37] Jimmy Linden: Steve, it is one idea for us to consider, ie., don't send content from restricted parcels. I'll put it on the roadmap as something to consider.
- [15:37] Steve Linden: Squirrel: It would be all or noting. I.e. if you can't access a parcel, we simply wouldn't render any of it.
- [15:37] Mercia McMahon: yuck Mainland looks bad enough already
- [15:37] Squirrel Wood: you'd also have to restrict the camera client side though
- [15:37] Celierra Darling: I suppose a custom viewer could avoid showing objects on that parcel totally, too, for those who want that... If that's what Bridie was asking?
- [15:37] Zuffy Frua: has to go
- [15:37] Squirrel Wood: Ye. Get AV'd to see it all. May encourage people to do the verification :)
- [15:37] Torley Linden: (Related: the "hide content" stuff will definitely bring up requests to do it on a more controllable basis, e.g., "mute ugly parcels you don't want to see with ads and stuff".)
- [15:38] Squirrel Wood: mute ugly parcels could be done client side ?
- [15:39] Squirrel Wood: like, don't render contents on parcels smaller than x m
- [15:39] Mercia McMahon: no Sqirrel but very popular requests on JIRA
- [15:39] Jimmy Linden: shall we move on to 3786?
- [15:39] Bridie Linden: I was thinking more about Internet searches and settings...but I think it's just what steve said, that it'd be all or nothing...
- [15:39] Eriq Rosca: i know this has been covered already but does someone have a link to more info on age verification ?
- [15:40] Bridie Linden: Aric, what would you recommend we do with 3789?
- [15:40] Jimmy Linden: there are docs in the KB
- [15:40] Torley Linden: What would you like to know, Eriq? Have you already seen our blog posts too? [2]
- [15:40] Jimmy Linden: and that, too. thx Torley!
- [15:41] Bridie Linden: Shall we leave 3789 open or move to a feature request?
- [15:41] Jimmy Linden: regarding 3789, let me and Steve discuss this along with other takeaways
- [15:41] Bridie Linden: kk JImmy,
- [15:41] Bridie Linden: Next on our agenda...
- [15:41] Jimmy Linden: 3786 is a bit related
- [15:41] Bridie Linden: VWR-3786 - Age verification can't protect content that is more than 50 M above terrain
- [15:41] Eriq Rosca: no i havent seen the blog posts
- [15:42] Jimmy Linden: but gets into more basic access control issues
- [15:42] Bridie Linden: Steve had commented on this one as well (thx Steve)
- [15:42] Squirrel Wood: now that is linked to 3789 in the way as to whether content is rendered or not. If nothing is rendered.... you see nothing
- [15:43] Steve Linden: Right. We would have to change the access rules which would break the ability to fly over restricted parcels.
- [15:43] Eriq Rosca: you rock torley ty :D
- [15:43] Prad Prathivi: Surely you'd still be able to see the avatars and their.. errr.. activities.. in age restricted parcels?
- [15:43] Bridie Linden: How did we choose 50 M?
- [15:43] Torley Linden: You're very welcome, Eriq. =)
- [15:44] Steve Linden: Squirrel: So that's a good point - if we didn't send any content in restricted parcels, we could actually allow people to walk through restricted parcels but not see anything in them, and vice versa
- [15:44] Steve Linden: That might actually be a better overall long term solution.
- [15:44] Squirrel Wood: yes
- [15:44] Bridie Linden: Interesting...
- [15:44] Prad Prathivi: Would you be able to blank out both content AND other avatars?
- [15:45] Steve Linden: Bridie: We pulled 50m out of our, er, we decided that was a reasonable height to allow interesting content but enable people to fly over restricted areas :)
- [15:45] Bridie Linden: lols
- [15:46] Bridie Linden: Steve, see Prad's question above...
- [15:46] Steve Linden: Prad; yes
- [15:46] Prad Prathivi: Okay cool =)
- [15:47] Bridie Linden: Shall we keep going?
- [15:47] Steve Linden: If someone stepped into a restriced parcel (and had access) it would look like they teleported away
- [15:47] Jimmy Linden: yes, 3788 is an interesting one.
- [15:47] Squirrel Wood: I can hear the outcry of how this is going to kill SL and business and everything already :p
- [15:47] Bridie Linden: Next up on the agenda
- [15:47] Bridie Linden: VWR-3788 - Allow restricting of group enrollment to age verified accounts
- [15:47] Jimmy Linden: Steve, can u give a sense of how expensive this is?
- [15:48] Steve Linden: Jimmy: development-wise? Hard to say, I'd need to consult with Don
- [15:48] Steve Linden: I don't think it should be too bad though.
- [15:49] Bridie Linden: I think it's a good suggestion, too...(FWIW)
- [15:49] Steve Linden: Because it addresses several problems, I think we may want to prioritize it.
- [15:49] Bridie Linden: Shall we import it?
- [15:49] Jimmy Linden: go for it
- [15:49] Steve Linden: It would allow us to remove some of the more esoteric land access restrictions (i.e. sell passes)
- [15:50] Aric Linden: yes. let's take it
- [15:50] Alexa Linden: ok
- [15:50] Steve Linden: Bridie: go ahead and import it / assign it to me as a reminder.
- [15:50] Bridie Linden: Thx Alexa
- [15:50] Steve Linden: It's in my internal to-do list to talk to Don and triage it.
- [15:50] Jimmy Linden: Let's be sure to include Rx in how we implement this.
- [15:50] Bridie Linden: cool
- [15:50] Torley Linden: Good idea. :)
- [15:50] Bridie Linden: and finally on the agenda...
- [15:50] Squirrel Wood: auto enrollment restriction may be favourable and manual enrollment should work regardless of such settings I think
- [15:50] Bridie Linden: VWR-3671 - Age verification unusable if the group level access is used
- [15:51] Bridie Linden: Steve is this fixed?
- [15:51] Bridie Linden: oh wait
- [15:51] Jimmy Linden: it will be if we fix 3788
- [15:52] Alexa Linden: yup
- [15:52] Alexa Linden: cross reference the two?
- [15:52] Steve Linden: Yes, those two are related.
- [15:53] Alexa Linden: ok
- [15:53] Jimmy Linden: sweetness
- [15:53] Jimmy Linden: anything else?
- [15:53] Bridie Linden: Any other questions?
- [15:53] Alexa Linden: bridie, you want me to import that one too and assign to you?
- [15:54] Bridie Linden: Assign to Steve :)
- [15:54] Alexa Linden: ok
- [15:54] Aric Linden: laughs
- [15:54] Bridie Linden: Well, thank you Steve and Jimmy for coming and talking with everyone!
- [15:54] Alexa Linden: thanks guys :)
- [15:54] Bridie Linden: And listening to concerns
- [15:54] Prad Prathivi: Thanks guys =)
- [15:54] Squirrel Wood: :)
- [15:54] Jimmy Linden: my pleasure. looking forward to joining u again in the near future :)
- [15:54] Steve Linden: No problem. Any other questions / concerns that are not directly related to the PJira's ?
- [15:54] Xavier Irwin: thanks
- [15:55] Mercia McMahon: there is the issue of the blog /kb encouraging reporting of non-restricted parcels (as has always been the case) but as AV is a recent Beta it ihas not always been the case
- [15:55] Steve Linden: Also, question : What do people think about allowing others to see the age verified status of other residents?
- [15:55] Alexa Linden: I would like it, as a resident
- [15:56] Steve Linden: Mercia : So that reflects a lbit of internal confusion
- [15:56] Prad Prathivi: I like it - if I'm dealing with a client, I like them to have Payment Info on file, and I'd like them to be AV'd too
- [15:56] Squirrel Wood: Make it optional ?
- [15:56] Bridie Linden: nods to Squirrel
- [15:56] Gellan Glenelg: anyone on the restricted parcel, or (if it's just content that's not rendered), anyone "using " the content... will be known to have age-verified... so ... it's not going to be totally unknown, even if not shown on profile
- [15:57] Mercia McMahon: I would not like it while the blogging is along the lines of "You only need to verifiy if you want to access adult only parcels"
- [15:57] Steve Linden: Jimmy : We need to clear that up. People should report areas that have mature content but are not flagged as mature, but at this moment they should not be reporting that areas are not age verification restricted since that is entirely opt-in at this point
- [15:57] Bridie Linden: Thx for clarifying Steve
- [15:58] Jimmy Linden: Ok, let me think about this. It's a good point.
- [15:59] Bridie Linden: Alas, we approach 4pm...
- [15:59] Steve Linden: Gellan: That is a good point and it has been brought up. We decided to start off conservatively since people are concerned about privacy, but realistically it is discoverable and I think mostly desireable for people to be able to easily demonstrate that they are age verified.
- [15:59] Bridie Linden: nods
- [16:00] Bridie Linden: This has been a great discussion
- [16:00] Aric Linden: Thanks for pulling it together Bridie
- [16:00] Bridie Linden: We'll get back to our list o' RC issues next week...
- [16:00] Bridie Linden: Np!
- [16:00] Jimmy Linden: thx Bridie
- [16:00] Steve Linden: Thanks all.
- [16:00] Mercia McMahon: happy new year all
