  • Pounce Teazle: !
  • Tourmaline Falken: Whatch out, Chaley - it's addictive ;)
  • Qie Niangao: So this post by Andrew, http://forums.secondlife.com/showthread.php?t=305651, belongs somewhere because the topic of temp-prim limits keeps coming up. The formula is a little involved for Torley's Limits page, though, I think.
  • Lara Shepherd: hi hi :)))
  • Torley Linden: And you have multiple Lindenz here so you are just in luck. Muhaha.
  • Opalie Bade: torley I'll take one :)

  • Pounce Teazle: Bit that box is smarter than you
  • BIT: YES
  • Opalie Bade: k :)
  • Torley Linden: And if it's certified gold and fit for the KB, we can get it included.
  • Qie Niangao: true, Torly.
  • Opalie Bade: I like rodney's best so far :)
  • Qie Niangao: *Torley. *blushes*
  • Flavia Fiertze: Which settings can i change to give me a more stable connection to SL?
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Simon Kline: it's only got the new user section in it at the moment so try words like group, gesture, chat, avatar, combat
  • Opalie Bade: so we have to touch the box ?
  • Simon Kline: yes
  • Answers: Hello Tourmaline Falken! Please type what you'd like information about!
  • Simon Kline: to make it listen to you :D

  • Opalie Bade: g
  • Arawn Spitteler: If it's going to be demonstrated in Public, it should say which item hasn't been found.
  • Jeremy Linden: Simon, do you happen to know how this script searches the KB?
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Opalie Bade: not with wildcards apparently :)
  • Zai Lynch: @phil: when the texture is full perms, you can open it and go to file -> save texture as
  • Simon Kline: well actually this one is using a notecard of kb titles and numbers :D
  • MrSteven Hawker: Op you followed me :0

  • MrSteven Hawker: Hi everyone
  • Tourmaline Falken: Hi Steven
  • Opalie Bade: hiya colton :)
  • Bio Swindlehurst: hi
  • Natalya Debevec: Steven :))
  • MrSteven Hawker: may i please have your bears and god mode
  • Simon Kline: the format of the notecard is basically:
  • Luipher Fhang: do KB items sooner or later make it into the wiki or will both stay independent resources for information?
  • MrSteven Hawker: Nat followed me to ㋡ lol
  • Natalya Debevec chuckles
  • Colton Linden: Hi folks.. wow long time no see DOC team :)
  • Zai Lynch: lol
  • Simon Kline: Avatar Movement: How do I walk or run?|5471
  • Can I change my avatar's name?|3895

  • Can I turn off the display of my own avatar's name to others?|4521
  • Can my computer run Second Life?|3885
  • Create a Custom Avatar (Video Tutorial Sequence)|5602
  • Jon Linden: yes to bears, no to god mode, ha
  • Opalie Bade: there is no god mode, someone just mistyped dog
  • Kate Linden: Please IM for bears :)
  • Bio Swindlehurst: i already have bears so can I have fish :D
  • MrSteven Hawker: why not lol
  • Jon Linden: anyone who has a bear request should IM each of us so we don't forget
  • Simon Kline: and it just looks for words in the titles that match what they're looking for
  • Jeremy Linden: Ooh.. I don't have a fish yet.
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Bio Swindlehurst: hi Colton
  • Kate Linden: The way the current KB search works, is that the search terms are run against the entire content of the article. This makes me think we need to pay extra attention to article titles.
  • Jeremy Linden: Right, Simon... but accessing the actual KB is quite a technical feat. I'm curious about the HTTP request you guys are using to make it work.
  • Jon Linden: it's an All Star Office Hour every time here, heh
  • Colton Linden: should have known that pose was why nobody was sitting on that side of couch
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Opalie Bade: more likely to find it faster in the title /subject
  • Simon Kline: ohh i'm not using http... tho trins version did
  • Jeremy Linden: Really? How did you get the article titles and numbers, then? :-O
  • Pounce Teazle: if you make it an hud make it several prims with some topics like "communication"" Moving" and so on?
  • Kate Linden: Simon does your version work similar to say a rental box?
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Simon Kline: i tried a few ways but Parature is nasty unless you're a web browser heh
  • MrSteven Hawker: so what does a Linden do ? on a average day
  • Pounce Teazle: Answer questions
  • Luipher Fhang bops Pounce softly
  • Pounce Teazle giggles
  • MrSteven Hawker accepted your inventory offer.
  • Kate Linden: MrSteven, Lindens have a variety of jobs within Linden Lab. The Doc team manages the Knowledge Base primarily.
  • Luipher Fhang: :P
  • Simon Kline: ohhh i went through the sections and copied and pasted them into a notecard heh very manual and non technical :D
  • MrSteven Hawker: if the pay good ?
  • Jeremy Linden: Oh whoa. Hmm.... there must be a better way; maintaining that list manually could become a nightmare.
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Luipher Fhang: regular expressions for the win!
  • Torley Linden: MrSteven, you can learn more about our responsibilities on the wiki. Some Lindens have bio pages on there. In our case, http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Doc_team
  • Pounce Teazle: I would make it webbased, updating content is impossible as it is...
  • MrSteven Hawker: cool thanks
  • Marianne McCann: Hiya
  • Jeremy Linden: But you're right about accessing Parature being an evil task. That's why I was so interested in how you did it!
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Simon Kline: hah yes! if you guys have a way of extracting a list of kb titles and numbers into a file it would be neat!
  • Bio Swindlehurst: hiya Marianne
  • Simon Kline: you could just drop that in there and it would search them :D
  • MrSteven Hawker: i would like to talk about stopping greifers, as at help island public is griefed everyday
  • Pounce Teazle: Have someone with landpowers ban them on sight, they get bored then fast ^..^
  • MrSteven Hawker: wouldnt the best way just turn rezzing off on the island ?
  • Opalie Bade: easier to ban object entry or scripts altogether, surely
  • Luipher Fhang: best griefer protection is to keep groups smaller than 7
  • Torley Linden: Our chat sessions are focused on Documentation + improving understanding of how to use Second Life, for other topics you'd best see other specific office hours... so you can get the expert Lindens in that area.
  • Jeremy Linden: MrSteven, the most effective way to stop a griefer in a public place is to file an abuse report against him. We've got a detailed KB article on the subject: http://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=3989
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Opalie Bade: but this is a doc team meeting
  • Pounce Teazle: Only way to stop griefers is banning them on sight, technical solutions do not stop them >.<
  • Kate Linden: https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=3989 <-guide to filing an abuse report
  • Torley Linden: Nice quick links, Team! =D
  • MrSteven Hawker: abuse reports do nothing
  • Marianne McCann: Liked the call for culture links in the Wiki, Torley. Tempted to put some stuff together
  • MrSteven Hawker: by the time there dealt with its a new alt
  • Opalie Bade liked the old one that was accessible through the pie menu
  • Arawn Spitteler: I'm just lerning how to access profiles, by script, but can't find any information. I've only been able to cut and paste a script.
  • Opalie Bade: faster
  • Luipher Fhang: abuse reports are often mis-used by groups of friends who want to get rid of somebody
  • Pounce Teazle: Last AR i did was not send before the griefer deleted the account hehe
  • Luipher Fhang: especially on Help Island Public
  • Kate Linden: Thank you Daniel :)
  • Torley Linden: We unfortunately can't act on vague anecdotes, they're useless; always *substantiate* evidence.
  • Daniel Voyager: :)
  • MrSteven Hawker: on hip its stupid all the time end up lagged and annoyed then crash lol
  • Luipher Fhang: i can provide lots of samples :)
  • Luipher Fhang: 1 lead to a 24 hour suspension and 1 lead to a forced id check
  • MrSteven Hawker: what can we expect in teh future of sl ?
  • MrSteven Hawker: the*
  • Zai Lynch: shadowdraft. woot!
  • MrSteven Hawker: wouldnt shadows cause more lag tho ?
  • Chaley May: Im not sure if i have ever been ARed
  • Zai Lynch: just on your own viewer depending on your grafics card
  • Torley Linden: MrSteven, from us, you can certainly expect more awesome knowledge-sharing so you have more mastery and confidence when using SL. (This is not an informercial.) We've got a blog coming up called Tips 'n' Tricks. :)
  • Opalie Bade: are the old facelights going to work with the new shadows effects ?
  • MrSteven Hawker: ok
  • Chaley May: I think I may have been once by a land cutter back when it was legal
  • Pounce Teazle: shadows would be client side, so its your machine ^..^
  • MrSteven Hawker: your gudies on youtube are great Torley learnt a lot from them
  • Jeremy Linden: Shadows will most likely be a viewer-side feature, meaning that they won't cause more lag for Second Life as a whole, but they may slow down some older computers.
  • Zai Lynch: facelights aren't even working with current lighting... ugh. is ugly o.O
  • MrSteven Hawker: guides*
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Dorie Bernstein: ok, shadows...where to enable?
  • Opalie Bade: LOL
  • Torley Linden: I've tried earlier shadowdraft and due to its prototypical state it had a lot of rough edges, but yes, worked with facelights. You can try it for yourself in one of a number of Resident-compiled viewers, at your own risk. They're for experimentation, not stable usage.
  • Opalie Bade: mine works - it's 'industrial strength'
  • Kate Linden: The Doc Team office hour is about all things Knowledge Base :) Aside from talking about an article about AR's, that topic is best suited for the governance team.
  • Torley Linden: Thanks MrSteven, glad you enjoyed them.
  • Dorie Bernstein quickly disabled seeing facelights as soon as it was possible
  • Luipher Fhang: Chaley May, no offense. but female pixels get less AR'ed by gangs of rofl-hunters on HIP
  • MrSteven Hawker: if lag is cut down tp'ss dont break as much and the price of lindens doesnt keep going up will be great place
  • Ai Tamatzui: i got shadows running on my old rig, facelights looked nuclear powered
  • Opalie Bade: yah high beams are a bit much
  • MrSteven Hawker: taught me a lot
  • Zai Lynch: ^^
  • Tourmaline Falken: I only ever use low beam
  • MrSteven Hawker: i dont care about shadows nice feature but wont help me crashing lol
  • Answers: Hello Opalie Bade! Please type what you'd like information about!
  • Opalie Bade: does inventory cause lag?
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Pounce Teazle sticks 99% of the time in prims building so shadows wont be noticed >.>
  • Torley Linden: Here's a variety of viewers: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Open_source_viewers KirstenLee Cinquetti's has shadows, not sure which others.
  • Opalie Bade: ok it's not working LOL
  • Marianne McCann: MrSteven - your system fits SL specs? Tried a fresh install, etc.?
  • Jabba Aabye: KB question, is it accessible through a HUD or In-World tools?
  • Marianne McCann: I don't crash very often, m'self
  • Opalie Bade: because I know there are articles in the KB on both inventory AND lag
  • Simon Kline: hehe try one word like lag
  • MrSteven Hawker: my com and interest is lot more than basic what is required
  • Ai Tamatzui: i used the KL one, worked fine
  • Jabba Aabye: except In-World Browser..
  • Simon Kline: yeah it only has the ones from the new user secion at the moment :D
  • MrSteven Hawker: internet8
  • Torley Linden: Like ice cream, many flavors of lag. Alas, ice cream TASTY. Lag... not.
  • Opalie Bade: simon, I want one answer, not an encycolpedia :P
  • Qie Niangao: So, Simon... you mentioned that another version of the help box thing used llHTTPRequest? So it pushed a search query into the KB and parsed the results? And that doesn't work now?
  • Tourmaline Falken: I found it difficult to find any information specifically on increasing frame rate. Any tips?
  • Bio Swindlehurst: i use boy lane's cool viewer
  • Jeremy Linden: Currently, the KB is only available via web browser (including the integrated browser in your Second Life viewer). We're looking at ways to get it included in Search, among other things :-)
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Marianne McCann: Tourmaline - lower draw distance?
  • Torley Linden: Tourmaline, viewer-side, easiest way is Preferences > Graphics > click Low. You can fine-tune it upwards from there.
  • Tourmaline Falken: Yeah its always low
  • Tourmaline Falken: Both grfaphiccs and draw distance
  • Opalie Bade: logging off tends to reduce your frame rate substantially :P
  • Tourmaline Falken: lol Opalie tx
  • Marianne McCann snickers
  • Torley Linden: Opalie, oh, but I like people to stay in SL!
  • Opalie Bade: works for lag too :)
  • Simon Kline: trinity coulter got one to work with searching the kb but i haven't seen her lately to see how that's going
  • Pounce Teazle: making shure you do not run old copies of SL hidden helps too, it does not always remove its tasks from the list...
  • Jeremy Linden: I get a really smooth framerate in RL, and almost never any lag (except at some parties).
  • Tourmaline Falken: But I don't see anything specifically on increasing frame rate on the kb - only about lag in general etc
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Qie Niangao: oh, ok... thanks, Simon.
  • MrSteven Hawker: lol
  • Robbo Mills: Does clearing the cache help? Or is that just like trying to flush an unflushable turd?
  • Ai Tamatzui: Lag in RL = hangover
  • Pounce Teazle: when i lagg hard and loose fps i delete the 20 copies running still >.>
  • Simon Kline: ok all thanks for your input i've got to get to rl work now :( have a great rest of sl day
  • Torley Linden: Robbo, generally, only if your cache is corrupt/bloated for some bad reason.
  • Tourmaline Falken: lol Robbo - well I've tried that too - my frame rate is regularly around 7 fps
  • Torley Linden: Take care Simon, thanks for sharing!
  • Tourmaline Falken: or less
  • Colton Linden: have a good one Simon
  • Zai Lynch: cyas sime! =)
  • Marianne McCann: I usually clear my cash every couple weeks or so, if things start to get a little buggy on my viewer side
  • Robbo Mills: Corrupt and bloated - unflushable - it all fits. Okay. :)
  • Jeremy Linden: Clearing the cache can clear up some problems that occur when something in your cache is corrupted, but can actually *decrease* performance if you clear it too regularly. It will force your viewer to re-download everything you've ever seen :-)
  • Opalie Bade: well I figured that the larger the onventory the more items the asset servers are beign asked to keep track of at the time, so it must increase lag
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Torley Linden: Tourmaline, yeah, I think it's important that if you search for something different but related like that, it should be easy to find answers.
  • MrSteven Hawker: i would like in the future easier building tools -
  • Jaymes Kjeller: In that case, I should really tell my viewer to stop clearing the cache at startup...It's probably not helping with any performance issues...
  • MrSteven Hawker: i find making certain things is tricking and modding land to be made better
  • Marianne McCann: Brushable terrain textures!
  • Opalie Bade: clearing too often just means you have to re-render a lot of textures all over again every time you log
  • Torley Linden: MrSteven, specifically how so? Do you have other programs you find particularly easy to use? Sometimes that's a useful point of discussion.
  • Pounce Teazle: Snap on tools in the building editor L-p
  • Jeremy Linden: Indeed, Jaymes. Clearing the cache at startup is one of the many myths we're going to try to dispell with our upcoming blog, "Tips 'n' Tricks".
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Chaley May: i never clear my cache..
  • Torley Linden: I wish we had a snap-to-edge for prims. I'm used to a similar option in many apps like Apple Keynote.
  • Pounce Teazle either
  • Opalie Bade: so you clear it and then they go ooh it's all grey' - duh
  • Arawn Spitteler: How do we guess whether a thing would be in KB, Wiki or needing Jira?
  • Marianne McCann: Me too, Torley
  • MrSteven Hawker: well lol i make levels on little big planet on ps3 and if things from that could be brough into here would be great
  • Jaymes Kjeller: Maybe you should also include recommended sizes of the cache for different circumstances.
  • Opalie Bade: I do when I seem to have ummm mislaid stuff (SL ate it )
  • Jon Linden: arawn, good question
  • Jon Linden: i would break it down this way
  • Opalie Bade: sometimes it comes back
  • Torley Linden: Alas Little Big Planet, as pretty as it is, has a proprietary format. Some people have recreated Sack Boy and others as sculpties, but that's not an automated import.
  • Zai Lynch: KB = official info on help stuff
  • wiki: inofficial help stuff as well as some official info on QA and open source as well as scripting
  • jira = bugs and feature requests
  • Jon Linden: if it's something that would help everybody, and it's related to questions of functionality, it belongs in the KB
  • Opalie Bade: bottom line simon, you need a better gopher to go fetch :)
  • MrSteven Hawker: lmao
  • Jon Linden: zai has beaten me to it more succinctly than i
  • Zai Lynch: ^^
  • MrSteven Hawker: i find be able to cut a square out of a giant square for say making a window very useful
  • Opalie Bade: yup agreed, if it's a fundamental basic function you need to make SL workable - should be in the knowledgebase
  • Pounce Teazle: Its caled square hole Steven
  • Arawn Spitteler: Someon was jst talking abut beter building tools, and I don't know if he means the ones he hasn't found out about, or the ones that might be added.
  • Jon Linden: i'd say the wiki is the place for more subjective questions like "how do i run an inworld business"
  • Opalie Bade: most won't even venture near the jira
  • Torley Linden: Sometimes articles are birthed and revised in the wiki, then "ascend" or "graduate" to the Knowledge Base.
  • Jon Linden: JIRA is strictly for feature requests or bug reporting
  • Opalie Bade: jira tends to be more the techies
  • Torley Linden: That is, following official approval and factchecking. :) E.g., http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Limits
  • MrSteven Hawker: wiki is huge tho take years to read through it all
  • Torley Linden: You never go wrong starting your learning adventure today. :-)
  • Jeremy Linden: For any new features you'd like to see, you can submit them (or vote for ones other Residents have submitted) at our public issue tracker: http://jira.secondlife.com
  • Pounce Teazle: jira is geekland sorry x.x
  • Torley Linden: Start with what's immediately most applicable, then move on.
  • MrSteven Hawker: lol
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Opalie Bade: doesn't wiki already basically have it's own gopher ?
  • Luipher Fhang: so its the other way around than i had imagined, so a first look over the KB is smart
  • Opalie Bade: can't you link it to your box in some way ?
  • Torley Linden: Sometimes things look scary but eh, you just get used to them and they become natural. Every person who learns anything needs to go through some process of acclimation. =)
  • Jon Linden: it's also worthwhile to search JIRA first to see if your desired feature has already been thought of, and requested
  • Luipher Fhang: need to habituate this
  • Jeremy Linden: Jira may be geekland, but if you submit requests there, they'll get seen by more than just the writers for the Knowledge Base :-)
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Apple MacKay: ao off
  • Jon Linden: some would say the Second Life viewer itself is pretty scary and requires some getting used to!
  • Torley Linden: Yes, I second Jon: it's SO important to do your research on "this is a great idea!" Chances are it may have a long and involved history to it. :)
  • Pounce Teazle: noone claimes to be sane and use SL
  • Opalie Bade: well not necessarily geeksville, but more peopel who are tryign to actually DO stuff, rather than just end users
  • Marianne McCann: Jon - I never found it that scary. Blender. Now *that's* scary
  • Robbo Mills: @Pounce - LOL
  • Opalie Bade: end users tend to use wiki and KB more
  • Torley Linden: Computers themselves are inherently geeky. The fact that they're mainstream means that a lot of people have gotten used to them.
  • Jeremy Linden: Haha agreed, Marianne!
  • Dorie Bernstein: Sanity is overrated
  • Jaymes Kjeller: Seconded. Blender - Scary GUI, at least to me.
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Torley Linden: Telephones and horseless carriages used to scare people at one time, too.
  • Qie Niangao: well, the Jira is scary because it's flamier than the forums these days.
  • Robbo Mills: We'll all have to find something else to get geeky with?
  • Opalie Bade: disagree torley - to most they're still a balck box
  • Opalie Bade: black box
  • Torley Linden: Opalie, the deeper aspects, yes.
  • Opalie Bade: plug and play has a lot to answer for :)
  • Jeremy Linden is waiting on a direct neural link to SL.
  • Arawn Spitteler: Horses are notoriou for scaring people.
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Torley Linden: Opalie, heh, to that... get a Mac. ;)
  • Pounce Teazle: Jira mutated to an own world with own language, i dun understand half of the stuff they talk about there x.x
  • Torley Linden: (I use both Windows and Mac.)
  • Jabba Aabye: It is available Jeremy, in Japan
  • WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): Jabba Aabye has pinged you.
  • Marianne McCann: Amen, Jeremy. Jes Jack in
  • WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): Marianne McCann has pinged you.
  • Colton Linden: same here, just started with MAC
  • Ai Tamatzui: direct neural link to SL? thats only 1 step away from the Matrix.
  • Robbo Mills: The "magic box" of any tech dissolves when its use becomes ubiquitous - no more shouting "Ahoy!" into the a wooden box to make a phone call.
  • Luipher Fhang: but thats the great thing about SL - you dont _have_ to be a geek to be able to have fun here
  • Tourmaline Falken: ooer Ai
  • Marianne McCann is a proud Mac User, and has five in view as she types this
  • Torley Linden: Robbo, that's something akin to what Arthur C. Clarke said about sufficiently advanced technology.
  • Robbo Mills: Eactly!
  • Robbo Mills: Ooooh! Does that mean we're magic?
  • Robbo Mills: LOL
  • Torley Linden: Use what works best for you. I never understood platform wars, they don't tend to convince people onr way or another and are tragically unproductive.
  • Torley Linden: Sure! Magic avatars!
  • Jon Linden: +1
  • Jeremy Linden: Pounce, you don't need to understand every post in JIRA; our community is comprised of many very highly skilled individuals, all with their own talents and specialties. If you know what *you* would like to see, we'd love to hear about it, in your words :-)
  • Marianne McCann: True, Torley. And they're so 1988.
  • Marianne McCann winks
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Robbo Mills: - nothin' up my sleeve - Presto!
  • Torley Linden: Haha Mari.
  • MrSteven Hawker: question - if a open space sim was made for plants and water, why did they have 3750 prims
  • Arawn Spitteler's keyboard has a slow buffer, in SL, but Coco says that's a known issue: My lagometry ays wehave alagy server, as well as connection an my usual client lag. I'm bordered on rashing.
  • Marianne McCann: Have oyu seen the prim count on some plants?
  • MrSteven Hawker: lol yes but
  • Marianne McCann grins
  • Pounce Teazle: even linden plants eat prims
  • Ai Tamatzui: they used to have half the prim count til havok 4 came along
  • Ai Tamatzui: or so i beleive
  • Torley Linden: MrSteven, to be fair, that presupposes certain inaccuracies. I'd refer to the KB articles on that. :)
  • Qie Niangao: !
  • Marianne McCann nods
  • Jeremy Linden: Linden plants all count as one prim apiece.
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Torley Linden: Without getting too involved, "light use" doesn't equate to "plants and water".
  • Pounce Teazle: 3k prims for a whole 256x256 is even in lindenplants not much
  • Luipher Fhang: heh
  • Torley Linden: But really, a decade from now, we'll laugh at today's constraints, just like 64 kilobytes of RAM used to cost over a thousand dollars!
  • Qie Niangao: use big plants :p
  • Marianne McCann: True, Pounce. I found that out on an OS once. Could hardly do the landscaping I wanted
  • Pounce Teazle: (not saying homesteads should have more prims)
  • MrSteven Hawker: i would like sl not to become to much into a business tho, sl is become to cost a lot of money to have house land etc, the world is in debt and everything seems to be costing more here which a lot of people cant affored
  • Jabba Aabye: SL in a cloud at Amazon.. jups.. :P
  • Vista Questi: u can do TONS with 3750 if ur creative enuf. ... it's a good idea to try sculpty trees.
  • MrSteven Hawker: afford it*
  • Pounce Teazle: megaprims help too :-p
  • Holocluck Henly: sorry i'm late. RL
  • Marianne McCann: True, Vista. It made me move my own plants to sculpts
  • Marianne McCann: Hey Holo
  • Bio Swindlehurst: but u can still enjoy Sl without having a house or land..I know I did
  • Torley Linden: MrSteven, SL (and first life) is what you make of it. :) The best people I know seize opportunities others miss or complain about, but do nothing for. I agree the recession is brutal but clever folks will adapt.
  • Jeremy Linden: Heh. We cannot endorse or condone the use of megaprims.
  • MrSteven Hawker: for what i would pay for a private sim here i can rent a rl place which is stupid
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Vista Questi: megasculpties for cliffs and such, yes
  • Holocluck Henly: heya mari :)
  • Qie Niangao: (although, to be fair, 3750 prims doesn't go far at Botanical)
  • Ai Tamatzui: SL is a luxury, not a necesity
  • Torley Linden: While most people are arguing, some will be off doing their own thing, being creative.
  • Vista Questi: oooo go see what they did in Chakryn Forest... they did an entire forest in an OS and it looks wonderful!
  • Ai Tamatzui: i say that as again i spend too much money on it :/
  • MrSteven Hawker: well i suck at building so iam here to relax and have fun have a place to eascape greifers and lag
  • Zai Lynch: while it's ontopic this moment... it would be great if a doc team linden could review the megaprim article i wrote... i'm not an expert on that subject: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Megaprim
  • Holocluck Henly just got here. what's the big argument to jump into?
  • MrSteven Hawker: escape*
  • Zai Lynch: (and there is no KB article about it)
  • Pounce Teazle: The only thing i would love to see is less lag and DB trouble, THAT makes earningh money in SL hard, everyting else is how one does it self
  • Vista Questi: it inspired me to try that myself, i need the skill-builidng. ;)
  • Torley Linden: Ai: That's an interesting thing too, because so many people are on the Internet now, and view it as essential as, well, 911 telephone service. A minority, but noted nonetheless, of people are disabled and use SL to communicate. So to them, it has much more relative value. =)
  • Holocluck Henly: escape is very important. I take my downtime seriously
  • Apple MacKay: omg mega flexi sculptie... thatd be cool
  • Marianne McCann: Ya, the DB trouble brings me down, Pounce.
  • Jeremy Linden: We may be able to take a look at it grammatically, Zai, but we can't go as far as actually recommending that Residents use megaprims.
  • Holocluck Henly: eep
  • Pounce Teazle is megaprim expert >.>
  • Luipher Fhang: Pounce, i think the name 'Teazle' was created only for you :o)
  • Ai Tamatzui: agreed, i had a friend who couldn't do much in RL, but SL was an outlet for them
  • Jaymes Kjeller: However, I seem to encounter most people arguing over everything. Whatever happened to just...well, normal dialogue?
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Holocluck Henly: eep
  • Tourmaline Falken: Me too Ai
  • Pounce Teazle blows a razzberry
  • Zai Lynch: i'm just trying to backup facts. i don't want to recommend them nor scare people of them.
  • Torley Linden: Jaymes, yeah. It's very weird... it gets deep into SL psychology. Like, why do some guys want to be girl avatars on here? And why is that so controversial? What's someone's innermost self that they want to express in SL that they can't, in RL?
  • Tourmaline Falken: Jaymes - it depends which sim/group you find yourself in
  • Vista Questi: not everyone is, Ponce, they're wonderful building tools but u cann't have newbs just rezzing them all over the place 'because they're big' . ;)
  • Ai Tamatzui: i can answer that one, it's easier to shop for a girl avie D:
  • Holocluck Henly: I dont know torley - why do guys want to be girl avatars? you and crap seem to have different purposes than those ranked on in the forums
  • Torley Linden: Zai, I <3 the look of the shortcut key (Ctrl-Alt-Shift-D). BTW, on most systems it's Ctrl-Alt-D, it's only if you have another app that conflicts wherein you need Shift.
  • Tourmaline Falken: haha Ai
  • Samantha Poindexter: And why aren't more of them buying my "My avatar s a girl" T-shirts from my CafePress shop?
  • Torley Linden: Hahahah Samantha.
  • Pounce Teazle: Yes, thats why my vote to allow megaprims for accounts only with accounted ID
  • Samantha Poindexter: (...did I say that out loud?)
  • Zai Lynch: ^_^
  • Pounce Teazle: Yes, i have fur and pointy tusted ears in RL too
  • MrSteven Hawker: tbh Ai has a tag says he is male but a lot of gay men play as women and should have gender proof here
  • Pounce Teazle: Tufted
  • Nicholas Hawthorne falls asleep
  • Holocluck Henly: yes I know but there are very antipathic people who will be animals or purple but to be another gender is sooo bad
  • Torley Linden: Zai, oh, I wasn't aware of that. GOOD TO KNOW, that's why you're so helpful! There was also a more recent occurrence where another loophole allowed new megaprims to be made.
  • Jeremy Linden: Oof... nobody saw me crash, right?
  • Arawn Spitteler: If you're her for the sex, you'd better be very liberal.
  • Torley Linden: NVM, you noted that in your History.
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Holocluck Henly: no LOL
  • Jon Linden: i saw nothing
  • Kate Linden: Welcome back
  • Natalya Debevec: My eyes didn't see a thing Jeremy.....and welcome back ;)
  • WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): Natalya Debevec has pinged you.
  • Jabba Aabye: Welcome back Jeremy
  • WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): Jabba Aabye has pinged you.
  • Zai Lynch: oohh... i'll try to investigate with a look at the forums. thx!
  • Holocluck Henly: if someone is here for sex and not being liberal they're a hipocrite
  • Ai Tamatzui: gender proof? does that mean furries should have fur proof too? or robots have robot proof?
  • Bio Swindlehurst: theres sex here?
  • Ai Tamatzui: etc
  • Pounce Teazle: If they that touchy they should not have sex in RL either, could be a transgender past surgery....
  • MrSteven Hawker: well
  • Luipher Fhang: we can have sex during the meeting?
  • Holocluck Henly: when youre here for sex it isnt the same as being here for love :) you are here for the experience.
  • MrSteven Hawker: 50% orf female are men
  • Jeremy Linden may actually be a robot in real life. SHOCK!
  • Jon Linden: let's not go nuts here
  • MrSteven Hawker: of
  • Torley Linden: NO SEX IN THIS MEETING PLZ. :O
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Tourmaline Falken: lol Bio
  • Jaymes Kjeller: Great...what did I just start?
  • MrSteven Hawker: which isnt right
  • Ai Tamatzui: knew i shoulda stuck with being a tiny
  • Zai Lynch: lol
  • Samantha Poindexter: ...I hope I don't need to provide evidence of having size 0 feet in First Life...
  • MrSteven Hawker: lmao
  • Bio Swindlehurst: but Torley that av is hot lol
  • Holocluck Henly: you know what? I dont even mind who or what as long as they're legal and nice folk. what they do outside SL is not my business
  • Torley Linden: Bio, thanks. =^_^=
  • Holocluck Henly: heh the one with the parasol? yeah
  • Torley Linden: The "Size 0" thing is an intriguing cultural thing, as are poseballs. Why are poseballs round? They provide no clues as to their orientation... :p
  • Dorie Bernstein is a dragon RL
  • Marianne McCann: Who with the what who?
  • Holocluck Henly: hey i have a female alt. She's a free spirit and dresses like a kook. but hey she's her own avatar
  • Vista Questi giggles.. torley, u ask the BEST questions!
  • Ai Tamatzui: why aren't there poseballs in RL more like it
  • Vista Questi: i bet u drive lots of otherlindens nuts! lol
  • Jaymes Kjeller: Right, in an attempt to drag the topic back to the point of the meeting, I'm going to say this. It might be a possibility to have "guest articles" in the KB, although it might detract from the whole concept of the KB.
  • Torley Linden: We (Doc Team) like to get involved in such curiosities. While we can go off on tangents, some things... just lead back.
  • Dorie Bernstein: I wish I could say my RL feet were size 0, though
  • Arawn Spitteler's ast human avatar is Ruth.
  • Torley Linden: Vista, oh yeah, I have a reputation for that by now. I was a watermelon Ruth avatar too.
  • Marianne McCann: I'm hardly one to talk about avatar style. But it's SL. We should be able tbe whatever we wish to express. Even Size 0
  • Marianne McCann winks
  • Luipher Fhang grins all over
  • Torley Linden: Jaymes, and concurrent from that, if someone writes a great wiki article that could be a candidate for the KB, we'd like to know.
  • Opalie Bade: why aren't there different coloured objects ? so you know you have to rezz a blue one but you can wear a red one ?
  • Bio Swindlehurst: I remember few months back I put some blue and pink tennis balls on chairs around work :D
  • Vista Questi: how long did u fool people with the fem act i wonder? but ooops of topic again! (silly bunny) :P
  • Torley Linden: As I mentioned we've already escalated/ascended/graduated various wiki contributions. Wiki is good for dishing out raw thoughts and encouraging others to improve on them.
  • Samantha Poindexter laughs.
  • Holocluck Henly: you're hiding behind the couch arawn I cant even tell what you are now
  • Torley Linden: Vista, well, anyone who really got to know me knew. It just took, what, reading one paragraph. But it was a good assumption-challenger.
  • Torley Linden: I encourage using the wiki as a dumping ground for info that could be useful but needs to be improved.
  • Opalie Bade assumed torley was female
  • Vista Questi: pretty much the wiki rocks as is. lots of times the google gets me there. but it's really easy to find sfuff , as i've found, altho really i loved learning inworld most of all. ^_^_
  • Luipher Fhang: gossip is mean
  • Holocluck Henly: Vista i never pursue sex with either of my avs and i never hide the fact that snurky is me or conceal my identity from people who know them both
  • Qie Niangao: so... way back when they first talked about Blog / Forums integration, there was some talk about KB being part of the mix, too, somehow. Is any of that still in the plans?
  • Jaymes Kjeller: That's a good point Torley, however, I've seen that articles can only be attached to a "portal", although I'm certain it's a misconception.
  • Holocluck Henly: oo i like torley's av today.
  • Torley Linden: Sometimes you're in a rush and you want to paste some stuff in... so that's fine. Don't worry if your wiki pages aren't polished. Seek someone who knows better about editing (like Zai and Daniel here, both of who have a storied history...) and learn. Even make new friends. :)
  • MrSteven Hawker: o i have question - why did the Linden who was heer from the start leave ?
  • MrSteven Hawker: here
  • Torley Linden: MrSteven, which? Who? Wha?!
  • Jon Linden: it depends on how the forums end up working; ideally, we'll be able to pull extremely helpful items from the forums into KB articles
  • MrSteven Hawker: what was her name Ai
  • Vista Questi: aww, isn't that a little personal? to ask?
  • Opalie Bade: you're mostly grey on my work pc so , oh well
  • Marianne McCann: Gotta get back t'work. Have fun, all!
  • Zai Lynch: articles can be created without beeing attached to portals. the portal stuff is just a way to interlink them
  • MrSteven Hawker: Robin i think
  • Ai Tamatzui: yeah
  • Holocluck Henly: later marianne :)
  • Tourmaline Falken: Yep Torley is looking very pretty today
  • Qie Niangao: Torley, they mean Robin
  • Torley Linden: Yeah Qie, like Jon said. We're bringing it up at every step we can get involved in the discussion. Ways to mine Resi-provided info for goodness so we connect that understanding.
  • Free Radar HUD v1.1 by Crystal Gadgets
  • Vista Questi: I'm biased, a little. :)
  • Nicholas Hawthorne looks at the clouds
  • Torley Linden: *changes into her tourist avatar*
  • Jabba Aabye: One prob. with the wiki now I think is the fact you can;t easily find answers in SL.. if you are a newcomer and need some fast asnwers while asking silly questions would be amzing I think and would help most of the new people..
  • Qie Niangao: thanks, Torley and Jon.
  • Jeremy Linden: There are no plans (at the moment) to integrate the KB with the new blogs and forums, but the forums may allow you to mark certain posts as "questions" and choose the response/answer that answered your question. That would help us find information you guys were curious about and give us ideas for new KB articles.
  • MrSteven Hawker: ladies we all know iam the hottest male here lmao joking
  • Arawn Spitteler imagines a going away party, where wedall drag Robin into a sim, and it breaks away from Mainland...
  • Jon Linden: re: Robin's departure; i have no more information than you do, folks
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Torley Linden: Jabba, ALWAYS of ongoing importance to us. Longer-term we want to get more of the web (like KB) inworld. And there are many pieces where the Knowledge Base can be plugged into.
  • Holocluck Henly: dumb question: does the kb or wiki have an area for community such as certain areas of continents of SL? Like Shermerville, noval albion, etc
  • Nicholas Hawthorne: ow
  • Pounce Teazle sets fire on MrStevens pants
  • Qie Niangao: Jeremy: ah! kinda like Stack Overflow. kinda. cool.
  • WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): Qie Niangao has pinged you.
  • Torley Linden: Especially easy fixes and ingenuinity, like using gestures to spread KB links. Or scripted gadgets as we've seen.
  • MrSteven Hawker: wtf
  • Vista Questi: well it's really a scale problem.. there's SO much to know and even if some think 'people don't scale well' for that, i sill think it's a great way to pass on information, make new friends, find new adventures, and so on
  • Torley Linden: Holocluck, GLAD YOU ASKED! YES!
  • Torley Linden: CULTURE! http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Culture
  • MrSteven Hawker: i have enought trouble with my pants going pointy at the bottom
  • Holocluck Henly: oo
  • Vista Questi: and then the wiki and so on , are great for verifiying what u actually think u kjnow
  • Torley Linden: Add to that, Nautilus is already on the list.
  • Holocluck Henly: ok :)
  • Pounce Teazle: Makes you hot though
  • Holocluck Henly: and blake soon
  • Torley Linden: Jabba, making them interactive in a 3D space is. And determining what are the most useful ways to go about it.
  • Jon Linden: folks, i'm going to have to bounce a little early
  • Arawn Spitteler just noticed that she/he/it is levitating.
  • Jon Linden: thanks for coming! i'll see you next week
  • Torley Linden: Simply showing a webpage as we can isn't a problem. But when authentication, protocols, proprietary tech, etc. is involved... it gets COMPLICATED. Wish it were simpler. But it's not. So it takes work.
  • Qie Niangao: thanks Jon
  • Tourmaline Falken: Dont you mean Squelch, Jon? ;)
  • Jon Linden: i have to wobble
  • Holocluck Henly: k jeremy
  • WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): Holocluck Henly has pinged you.
  • MrSteven Hawker: can one of you Lindens secretly add me as a friend ?
  • Tourmaline Falken: lol
  • Jon Linden: be well
  • Zai Lynch: ^^
  • MrSteven Hawker: bye Jon tc
  • Holocluck Henly: heehee
  • Ai Tamatzui: before you wobble, i can has linden bear?
  • Tourmaline Falken: Bye Jon
  • Opalie Bade: torley, that's why you LIndens get the big bucks isn't it ? :))
  • Vista Questi: Yip!
  • Jabba Aabye: True,i imagine that the wiki now is capable pregmatching serach queries, so multiple ways of representing it in world can be tested?
  • Pounce Teazle: Some way to acces information inside SL would be great, why have an interactive 3d virtual world and then go to get info into 2d internet >.>
  • Torley Linden: It's like, well, the thought "Why not show 100 webpages on a parcel?" Well... consider all that bandwidth. Consider how different people are going to interact with that (more bandwidth). Think about making it easy (clicks in 3D space)... and so on and soforth.
  • Apple MacKay: ooo just thought of a topic for a torley vid
  • Torley Linden: It's not impossible, but it's ongoing.
  • Torley Linden: Oh yes Apple, what's that?
  • Jabba Aabye: ok
  • Holocluck Henly: that one of the library avs edited torley?
  • Torley Linden: Opalie, haha, well I help solve multimedia problems, and yes, I'll be involved in the usability/design of upcoming HTMLstuffs.
  • Jeremy Linden: If you'd like to see a display we set up with links to the KB in a 3D format, check out the Supporte region. We have already started taking down our exhibit, but there may still be some good stuff there :-)
  • Apple MacKay: we had an issue the other day where a concert was going on... someone abusing textures...
  • MrSteven Hawker: i would like rl tv shows here liek simpsons
  • Answers: Sorry an article was not found matching your query
  • Apple MacKay: gestures
  • Holocluck Henly: you've been making tutorials for all sorts of sites now too
  • Kate Linden: I have to take off also. It was great to see you all and thanks for the conversation today!
  • Apple MacKay: not textures
  • Holocluck Henly: eep
  • Apple MacKay looks at fingers
  • Tourmaline Falken: Bye Kate
  • Jabba Aabye: Thank Jeremy, I will take a look at that
  • WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): Jabba Aabye has pinged you.
  • Opalie Bade: but the idea of a tutorial site, that's more of an access the webpage site would be good - you have the media streaming now - interactive is next right ?
  • Zai Lynch: cyas kate =)
  • Apple MacKay: so showing how to turn on sound beacons
  • Devin Linden is off to a meeting.... thanks for this!
  • MrSteven Hawker: Bye Kate are you hot we should go out sometime lol sorr y
  • Tourmaline Falken: haha Steven
  • MrSteven Hawker: lol
  • Jeremy Linden: Ok, gotta run! Another meeting is calling. Thanks for coming, all. See you next week!
