[13:01] oh not he is
[13:01]
[13:01]
[13:02] Daniel Voyager: hey Jeremy
[13:02] Daniel Voyager has pinged you.
[13:02] Jeremy Linden: Hey everyone.
[13:02] Adamburp Adamczyk: heya jeremy
[13:02] Adamburp Adamczyk has pinged you.
[13:02] Nicholas Hawthorne: Halloooo! :-)
[13:02] Jeremy Linden: One moment while I deal with these cubes...
[13:02] Jeremy Linden: Did I miss any within earshot?
[13:02] Nicholas Hawthorne: nvm, was about to say you missed one
[13:02] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): They seem to be gone.
[13:02] Nicholas Hawthorne: all gone
[13:02] Nicholas Hawthorne: *:-.,_,.-:*'``'*Yayyyyyyy!!!!*:-.,_,.-:*'``'*
[13:03] Jeremy Linden: How is everyone this week?
[13:03] Adamburp Adamczyk: truly?
[13:03] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): Bronchatic
[13:03] Daniel Voyager: is alright I guess..
[13:03] I know this might be a stretch but a lo of new people still go to Orientation Island Public to learn--Can someone plase update the Notecards in the Signs that are from 2003? Please!
[13:03] Kraptacular Kat (bronson.blackadder): Jeremy Yo hows it going?
[13:03] Bronson Blackadder has pinged you.
[13:04] Adamburp Adamczyk: we are rl-tiddly after a 12 hour shift at work, and a glass of jim bean to wind down
[13:04] Jeremy Linden: I'll ask about it, Nimh, but that is not traditionally my team's responsibility.
[13:04] LadyMoon Merlin: hey all
[13:04] Whos is it?
[13:04] Jeremy Linden: I'm not sure. Probably whoever is in charge of Orientation Island Public :-)
[13:04] LadyMoon Merlin: i dont look this good in rl
[13:04] Nicholas Hawthorne: :O
[13:04] LadyMoon Merlin: but im working on it
[13:04]
[13:05] Daniel Voyager: have you been to the new welcome islands from last year yet?
[13:05] Jeremy Linden: /me coughs.
[13:05] Ok umm -How hard is it to just simply put links to teh Wiki/KB in new notecards--you don't even have to write anything up
[13:05] Jeremy Linden: I uh, I'm not sure I have.
[13:06] we are talking 2003
[13:06] Daniel Voyager: been there a few times
[13:06] Jeremy Linden: Good point, Nimh, but I'll have to clear it with whoever is in charge of Orientation Island Public. We Lindens can't actually go around changing parts of the official experience, you know :-)
[13:06] its not an Infohub anymore
[13:07] The guy you made the notecards is long done
[13:07] So you have Lindens in charge of specific Linden sims?
[13:08] They are grabbing the LM in the Library and going there
[13:08] Adamburp Adamczyk: the 2/3 of you guys tht are left, are, imo doing a good job
[13:08] Adamburp Adamczyk: want a good example?
[13:08] Jeremy Linden: There are Lindens who are in charge of projects that create places like that. I'll have to ask around to know for sure who's in charge of the infohubs.
[13:09] Adamburp Adamczyk: the mainalnd sim i live on went off the other day, muggins filed a ticket, in 10 mins reply was received
[13:09] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): Has Amber Linden still got a job? She was in charge of Mentors, I recall
[13:09] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): Creating Places might be Michael of the Moles
[13:10] So why is it no one in your company knows what the others do? Do you all have communicate at all?
[13:10] Adamburp Adamczyk: ldpw? a good bunch too
[13:10] Adamburp Adamczyk: out of 42 requests i made, only 1 was refused
[13:11] LDPW is great.... really sucks that Michael won't have office hours anymore
[13:11] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): They're using Corporate Transparency, where they look about, and ask a resi
[13:11] Jeremy Linden: Nimh, that's not a very polite way to ask that question. There are more than 200 people at this company, and we all have our own responsibilities. They don't necessarily overlap.
[13:11] Adamburp Adamczyk: so yes, these guys are doing a good job
[13:11] There are so many dependencies in here that it makes no sense that nobody there kno
[13:11] Kraptacular Kat (bronson.blackadder): and not all lindens are sitting in the same room in the same city in the same state
[13:11] Amber still shows in Search. Not sure why I thought she was one of the early layoffs)
[13:12] this depends on that and that depends on this and effects this which effects that
[13:12] m not blaming you -I blame you management
[13:12] Adamburp Adamczyk: /eme says "jump up and shout flash if you think they, the lindens, do a good job"
[13:12] Adamburp Adamczyk: Flash! Aaaaaaa! Saviour of the universe!
[13:12] Jeremy Linden: Projects are always in motion, and Lindens move from project to project once they're done... It's not as though we've got someone on staff whose sole responsibility is to keep notecards up to date :-)
[13:13] Thats what you dont' get--When a noob sees that there are notecards writeen from when SL started in 2003 --what kinda of impression do you think that has on them?
[13:14] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): They create by teams and, when the creation is done, they leave noone in charge.
[13:14] Daniel Voyager: Viewer 2 has a built-in help section. hehe
[13:14] Jeremy Linden: Nimh, you've made your point. I'm not going to go fix them in the middle of my office hour, but I will find out why they are the way they are.
[13:14] t you and the rest want people to stay in SL as residents? Doesn't that mean in the end that whoever is left can keep the jobs
[13:14] ok thanks Jeremy
[13:14] Nimh20 Vandeverre has pinged you.
[13:15] lucila Quinzet: hello veryone
[13:15] Nicholas Hawthorne: whaihallodar ^.^
[13:15] lucila Quinzet: jeremy linden?
[13:15] lucila Quinzet has pinged you.
[13:15] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): Hello, Lucila
[13:15] lucila Quinzet: i read about u
[13:16] Jeremy Linden: Welcome to Documentation Office Hours. This is an open chat for discussing Second Life Help-related issues.
[13:16] Jeremy Linden: Uh oh, all good, I hope.
[13:16] s been in the tabloids again?
[13:16] Qie Niangao has pinged you.
[13:16] lucila Quinzet: yes
[13:16] lucila Quinzet: good
[13:16] Nicholas Hawthorne: lol
[13:16] lucila Quinzet: nice to meet u
[13:16] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): He's remarkably photogenic, for an overweight naked guy with a sheep
[13:16] Jeremy Linden: !
[13:17] Jeremy Linden: Now THAT would be an avatar.
[13:17] Nicholas Hawthorne: :O
[13:17] Nicholas Hawthorne: lol
[13:17] Jeremy Linden: Zindra-only, I imagine.
[13:17] LadyMoon Merlin: can i just say i found my eyes and im really happy
[13:17] Jeremy Linden: Only in Second Life :-)
[13:17] So whats new in the world of documentation?
[13:18] Nicholas Hawthorne: lol alot of things happen that are only in sl moments :P
[13:18] Jeremy Linden: There's a big announcement coming in about two weeks that'll make this office hour a lot more interesting. I can't really talk about it until then, though!
[13:19] Nicholas Hawthorne: :O
[13:19] Daniel Voyager: yay
[13:19] Kraptacular Kat (bronson.blackadder): oh sounds like a good topic to talk about
[13:19] Kraptacular Kat (bronson.blackadder): so whats the big announcment?
[13:19] Jeremy Linden: But what I can say is that I've been rooting through the official articles on the wiki and making decisions about which ones should actually be protected from Resident editing.
[13:19] Kraptacular Kat (bronson.blackadder): hehehehee
[13:19] Nicholas Hawthorne: lol
[13:20] Jeremy Linden: We love it when you guys contribute to our online help, so long as you don't go changing the ToS or something :-)
[13:20] Nicholas Hawthorne: lol now who in there right mind would do that
[13:21] Jeremy Linden: Well, Second Life, like many sweet things, may contain nuts :-)
[13:21] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): /me wants to edit Community Standards, to allow the advertising of Proctor and Gamble
[13:21] Nicholas Hawthorne: lol what kind of nuts? :P
[13:22] Jeremy Linden: Hmm... I'm not sure I've ever seen a Mr. Peanut avatar. He'd be more of a legume, though.
[13:22] Daniel Voyager: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_culinary_nuts lol
[13:22] Nicholas Hawthorne: LOL!!
[13:23] Nicholas Hawthorne: not that kind of nuts daniel :P
[13:23] Jeremy Linden: Whoa!
[13:23] Daniel Voyager: found the Mr. Peanut Avatar
[13:23] Jeremy Linden: Now I have seen a Mr. Peanut avatar.
[13:23] Nicholas Hawthorne: lol and of course daniel "would" have a mr. peanut av
[13:23] Daniel Voyager: Lol
[13:23] speaking of the wiki, somebody showed http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Widget:Google_Calendar today... looks cool. not sure what I'd do with it, though.
[13:24] Nicholas Hawthorne: all he needs is a can of peanuts
[13:24] Jeremy Linden: Qie, office hours calendar? :-)
[13:24] Daniel Voyager: and worms
[13:24] that could be one use for it, yeah
[13:24] Nicholas Hawthorne: lol why worms? :O
[13:25] Jeremy Linden: Oh! And I have an update on getting office hour transcripts out of Google search results.
[13:25] Jeremy Linden: It turns out we're using the real Google for the wiki, rather than our appliance, so we'd need to add an extension to our public wiki to be able to exclude specific pages.
[13:25] Jeremy Linden: ...which is totally doable, but we're still discussing alternatives.
[13:26] Jeremy Linden: I know we had some complaints awhile back that transcripts were starting to become more than a nuissance, cluttering up most searches.
[13:27] I guess it depends whether you want office hour transcripts to be indexed by public google at all
[13:27] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): Transcripts can contain some information, but should be seperately searcheable
[13:28] Jeremy Linden: Ideally yes, Arawn. We're trying to find the best way to do that.
[13:28] Jeremy Linden: Even if we don't let Google index the transcript pages, they'll still be searchable via the default Wiki search, though.
[13:28]
[13:29] Jeremy Linden: It's not immediately obvious, but the public wiki uses two separate search engines :-)
[13:30] Jeremy Linden: Anyway, has anyone got any stories about the wiki, forums, SL Answers, or Viewer 2 Help today?
[13:31] Jeremy Linden: /me needs a cricket gesture.
[13:31] Nicholas Hawthorne: ..........
[13:32] Jeremy Linden: Nicholas wins!
[13:32] Nicholas Hawthorne: •:*¨ Eh hehehehe haha! ¨*:•
[13:32] Re the forums, a little relief for https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-2587 would be welcome. (No idea who can do that, though)
[13:33] Jeremy Linden: Oh, interesting.
[13:33] s the Featured Discussions list that keeps growing to pages and pages, before getting to any threads, in the Discussions view)
[13:34] Jeremy Linden: Wow, yes. I almost mistook the actual threads as comments just now :-X
[13:35] Jeremy Linden: Hello zack89. Welcome to Documentation Office Horus.
[13:35] Jeremy Linden: er, Hours
[13:35] Nicholas Hawthorne: :P
[13:35] I dunno if that's a bug in the currently-used Jive, or a configuration problem, or something that needs administrative intervention. But if the feature could just be disabled altogether, not much would be lost.
[13:37] Jeremy Linden: Yes, it certainly seems that way. I'll try to bring it up with the folks who handle that.
[13:37]
[13:38] Flight bracelet: All Go
[13:38] Jeremy Linden: Wow, we seem to have a quite a few visitors this week. I wonder what's the occasion?
[13:39] Daniel Voyager: Viewer 2.5 Beta Now Available: http://bit.ly/gldwDS :p
[13:39] Nicholas Hawthorne: :O
[13:39] Jeremy Linden: Huzzah!
[13:40] Kraptacular Kat (bronson.blackadder): hope that big bug is fixed in it
[13:40] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): /me's on Snowglobe, atm, but should start scripting his own
[13:41] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): Will the media plug-in finally work?
[13:41] Nicholas Hawthorne: i need a cricket av :P
[13:41] Jeremy Linden: Media has worked for me on Viewer 2 since it was in development...
[13:41] Nicholas Hawthorne: YESH
[13:44] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): I haven't been able to use MoaP, which is most of what Viewer 2 is good for
[13:44] Jeremy Linden: Hmm... It would be interesting if someone created a status attachment that indicated things like "looking up something on the web" instead of just "away" or being silent.
[13:44] Nicholas Hawthorne: lol
[13:45] Kraptacular Kat (bronson.blackadder): lol
[13:45] Adamburp Adamczyk: jer, that lamp next you, can i have a copy pleasse?
[13:45] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): Isn't that what became Display Names?
[13:45] Adamburp Adamczyk: if it;sa freebie that is
[13:45] Jeremy Linden: I don't think it's mine to give, sorry :-(
[13:45] Adamburp Adamczyk: no problem
[13:46] Jeremy Linden: Most of the stuff here was purchased about 3 years ago by me or Jon.
[13:46] Jeremy Linden: I think I made the picnic tables and the actual structure of the place :-)
[13:47] Nicholas Hawthorne: *cricket chirping
[13:48] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): The dock is sliced into 10X10 sections, rather than using a single primficient megaprim
[13:49] Jeremy Linden: Yes, yes. I'm old-school that way... I learned to build back in 1.5 and 1.6 :-)
[13:49] Nicholas Hawthorne: :P
[13:49] Jeremy Linden: But I think I did see official megaprims in one of the public Mesh beta builds!
[13:51] s one building skill I won't mind seeing become obsolete with mesh: Proficiency in chopping and dicing megaprims to fit the build, and adapting builds for available megaprims.
[13:51] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): What's Mesh?
[13:51] Jeremy Linden: Yes... While those are their own kind of art, it'll be fun to see what people can do without those limitations.
[13:52] Jeremy Linden: Arawn, Mesh will introduce the ability for people to upload complex 3D models using a popular 3D modeling file format.
[13:53] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): Collidable Sculpties?:
[13:53] Jeremy Linden: So... It'll let people design objects in a dedicated, mainstream 3D modeling environment, then upload it here.
[13:53] Jeremy Linden: The physics will be more accurate too, yes.
[13:53] lucila Quinzet: yesssss
[13:53] Jeremy Linden: Lemme find the wiki page..
[13:53] Jeremy Linden: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Mesh
[13:54] or the physics can be *intentionally* quite different from the visible shape, which can be interesting, too)
[13:54] Jeremy Linden: Indeed, Qie.
[13:54] lucila Quinzet: can i do a questions?
[13:55] Jeremy Linden: Ok, lucila.
[13:55] lucila Quinzet: ok
[13:55] lucila Quinzet: i see this page
[13:55] lucila Quinzet: im peruvian
[13:55] lucila Quinzet: there are many people here to speak spanish
[13:55] lucila Quinzet: and many problems with it
[13:56] lucila Quinzet: and the page in spanish is not to clear
[13:58] Jeremy Linden: Officially, we only have the resources to write the English version of pages like this. Any translated pages are probably created by other Second Life Residents for your convenience, but we cannot confirm that they are correct.
[13:58] lucila Quinzet: is ok
[13:59] lucila Quinzet: i meet a lot of latin people here
[13:59] lucila Quinzet: and they dont speak english and ask me all time
[13:59] Adamburp Adamczyk: /me wants to write them in esperanto
[13:59] lucila Quinzet: about how use secondlife
[14:00] Jeremy Linden: Are you familiar with the Community Translation Project? https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Community_Translation_Project
[14:00] lucila Quinzet: yes
[14:00] lucila Quinzet: but thye dont know how use it
[14:00] Arawn Graalrd (arawn.spitteler): /me doesn't think Esperanto is anybody's native language.
[14:00] Jeremy Linden: Hmm....
[14:01] Jeremy Linden: We do have some pages in Spanish, but not very many.
[14:01] Time Minder: You have been online for 1 hours.
[14:01] I wonder which language communities do better at translating the pages. I gather Dutch and German do pretty well.
[14:01] Jeremy Linden: German and French are the best-populated, after English :-)
[14:01] Jeremy Linden: There are also some pages in Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese.
[14:02] Nicholas Hawthorne: o.o
[14:02] lucila Quinzet: yes second life is very popular
[14:02] Jeremy Linden: I meant to say that German and French have the most articles, besides English, sorry :-)
[14:03] lucila Quinzet: ok thanks for u awser
[14:03] Jeremy Linden: It looks like we are out of time for this week! I'll stop the transcript here.
