[10:07] Christian Colville: I've set up a website that pulls land sales information off the servers using libsecondlife
[10:07] Benjamin Linden: oh cool
[10:08] Christian Colville: its a free facility.. it lets people do more detailed searches than the in-world tool
[10:08] Benjamin Linden: can I see it?

[10:09] Christian Colville: yep it actually uses a development system called OpenLaszlo
[10:10] Christian Colville: which compiles to a flash object
[10:10] Christian Colville: so I wanted to let you guys know what I was up to
[10:11] Christian Colville: plus it occurred to me that you might well decide yourselves at some point to put land search on an external site
[10:11] Benjamin Linden: there's been a lot of discussion lately about what to do with Search
[10:11] Benjamin Linden: since what we have right now isn't that great
[10:11] Benjamin Linden: let me play with this for a sec
[10:11] Christian Colville: sure
[10:12] Christian Colville: it updates every 2 hours
[10:12] Christian Colville: plus the technology is unscrapable
[10:12] Benjamin Linden: because it's flash?
[10:13] Christian Colville: well yes there are flash decompilers but I think this OpenLaszlo system produces flash objects that are difficult to decompile
[10:13] Benjamin Linden: I see, cool
[10:13] Benjamin Linden: wow this is impressive

[10:13] Benjamin Linden: does it include land auctions as well?

[10:14] Christian Colville: I'm thinking of putting land rentals on it next
[10:14] Christian Colville: auctions would require me to write an HTML scraper to get the info off your site
[10:14] Benjamin Linden: ah I see
[10:15] Benjamin Linden: I like the way when you click a link it jumps straight to that spot on the map
[10:15] Benjamin Linden: that's really cool

[10:15] Benjamin Linden: it would be nice to see the preview image that you can see when you do land searches in-world
[10:16] Benjamin Linden: hey Christian I have to take a phone call real quick, can you hang on?
[10:16] Christian Colville: yes that was a little technically demanding and would use a lot of server space

[10:21] Benjamin Linden: so when you said it would take a lot of server space, did you mean space on your webserver?

[10:22] Benjamin Linden: there's no way to directly link to the image that's on our servers?
[10:22] Christian Colville: plus I'd have to work out how to translate the data in a packet into a jpg
[10:22] Benjamin Linden: oh I see
[10:22] Benjamin Linden: so theoretically it could be done dynamically
[10:22] Christian Colville: I don't know if a direct link is possible
[10:22] Christian Colville: that would be ideal
[10:23] Christian Colville: but no idea how to get a url from an image LLUUID
[10:23] Benjamin Linden: yes, I'm not sure if that's possible
[10:23] Benjamin Linden: I could ask some folks for you
[10:23] Christian Colville: in my experience most images are missing or standard landowner ones
[10:23] Christian Colville: that would be great
[10:24] Christian Colville: yeah so partly I wanted to talk to you out of concern that you might sometime soon put the land search on an external website which would of course make my site superfluous really
[10:25] Christian Colville: I mean of course you will do what you will do but maybe what I've done could help you in that circumstance
[10:25] Benjamin Linden: well I can't speak to specific initiatives that we have underway of course but there is an effort to make across-the-board improvements in search
[10:26] Christian Colville: sure
[10:27] Benjamin Linden: I will definitely show your site to the relevant people. it's possible there's something we could leverage in our new search tools

[10:33] Revolution Perenti: from game engines, graphics libs, matrix and math engines

[10:38] Christian Colville: its quite prety Richmond
[10:38] Christian Colville: Earls Court has toomuch traffic tho
[10:39] Revolution Perenti: you living in the UK now bed or lindens moved you out to the states

[10:39] Revolution Perenti: i was living in london for a while, but live away from london now most of my work comes from the internet

[10:39] Revolution Perenti: no need for an office, even i do get shipped out ot LA and NY alot
[10:39] Benjamin Linden: I was living here when i started working for LL

[10:40] Christian Colville: there's a lot of Microsoft offices round there I've heard

[10:40] Benjamin Linden: that was actually my previous employer :-)
[10:40] Revolution Perenti: lo ldont tell me about m$ im a linux user :P

[10:41] Benjamin Linden: haha I was just up at LinuxfestNorthwest, north of Seattle last weekend
[10:41] Benjamin Linden: very different crowd than at my last job :-)
[10:41] Revolution Perenti: got sick of windows in the end, never really needed it for coding
[10:41] Christian Colville: yeah?
[10:41] Benjamin Linden: I worked on Visual Studio at Microsoft. it's a pretty good IDE
[10:41] Revolution Perenti: linux more sutiable
[10:41] Christian Colville: I love the VS IDE
[10:41] Revolution Perenti: yes i have that too , but rarely touch it now days
[10:42] Benjamin Linden: that's good to hear, Christian
[10:42] Revolution Perenti: only log into windows for games or when im doing windows ports and testing
[10:42] Christian Colville: lets you do immensely complex operations very easily
[10:42] Benjamin Linden: what do you code in Revolution?
[10:42] Revolution Perenti: c++ and php
[10:42] Benjamin Linden: I meant which IDE, sorry
[10:42] Revolution Perenti: started in basic , then got qulificed in c++

[10:46] Benjamin Linden: 34 patches by 18 unique authors have been accepted into the Viewer code

[10:47] Suzanne Zeluco: i didn't know where else to go ask, with the recent changes ... and i am sorry if this is not the right forum, Benjamin ... but i cannot get any feedback on any other channels at the moment

[10:48] Suzanne Zeluco: have been living now almost 4 days in a sim with time dilation averaging 0.55, and there seems to be no cure to this, and can't get hold of anyone who can help

[10:48] Revolution Perenti: last year ben i was involved as lead developer of phpnuke , was involved making the first release of 8.x branch

[10:49] Revolution Perenti: but after that i had alot of commercial work ended up in america
[10:49] Suzanne Zeluco: sim time dilation .. varying between something like 0.4 - 0.6 .. averaging at about 0.55

[10:49] Revolution Perenti: but trying to get more involved again opensource wise
[10:49] Revolution Perenti: and being a big c++ user and sl user love to start using the code thats available

[10:51] Suzanne Zeluco: time dilation means roughly how fast the sim is running or processing things, that is how i understood it
[10:52] Suzanne Zeluco: time dilation 0.55 means the sim is kind of running about half speed

[10:52] Christian Colville: I think time dilation is what happens when a sim cant make the standard FPS
[10:52] Benjamin Linden: oh I see, Suzanne, so your sim is running slowly. are you experiencing a lot of lag?
[10:52] Suzanne Zeluco: well yes, constantly and is the fourth day with no change
[10:52] Revolution Perenti: i noticed ever since 1.15.0 release there been alot of bw usage too like there memory leaks in the kernal , but its coming from the viewer
[10:53] Revolution Perenti: sometimes 70 - 80% cpu usage and im on dual core
[10:53] Vent Sinatra: Hmmm, I have a similar, related issue

[10:53] Revolution Perenti: cant even run more then one viewer anymore
[10:53] Revolution Perenti: use to be able to log 2 accounts on my pc
[10:53] Vent Sinatra: There is something happened with memory
[10:53] Revolution Perenti: using dual core by giving each sl viewer its own cpu core
[10:54] Christian Colville: the viewer is single-threaded isn't it?
[10:54] Revolution Perenti: now if i run 2 its like a slide show
[10:54] Vent Sinatra: no no, that isnt it, i tried it.... MY guess would be something in the grpahics
[10:54] Benjamin Linden: interesting. I'll have to check with some people to see if there are any known memory issues

[10:54] Revolution Perenti: well graphics are prety hi end, im using 2x sli nvidia 7900
[10:54] Revolution Perenti: there more then enough power
[10:55] Wishmaster Delcon: the only issue regarding memory i have found is that it call for more virtual memory but that has only happened once
[10:55] Vent Sinatra: Its fine when you start, but after a couple of hours
[10:55] Vent Sinatra: whichis nothing in SL :) everything becomes slow
[10:55] Revolution Perenti: only thing i can think of is start back tracing some of these issues in the viewer itself
[10:55] Christian Colville: 1.15 runs ok on my system but SL has always been slow for me it taxes my little laptop too much
[10:56] Suzanne Zeluco: i would appreciate, Benjamin, if you could get a grid monkey to restart Cass region ... if that could be possible ... it seems to not be fixing itself on it's own
[10:56] Vent Sinatra: Benjamin, who is your network specialist, there is this one issue on jira which is bugging us for two weeks, and we are having such a hard time. SOmetimes Torley Linden is saying something
