Transcript of Bridie Linden's office hours:

[2007/08/22 14: 59] Torley Linden: Hey Benja and Daedalus!
[2007/08/22 14: 59] Daedalus Young: hi torley
[2007/08/22 14: 59] Torley Linden: Bridie's trying to login, so's Iridium...
[2007/08/22 14: 59] Torley Linden: login troubles today.
[2007/08/22 14: 59] Benja Kepler: hiya Torley! you well?
[2007/08/22 15: 00] Daedalus Young: ah yes
[2007/08/22 15: 00] Torley Linden: Yes well for the most part!
[2007/08/22 15: 00] Torley Linden: And you?
[2007/08/22 15: 00] Benja Kepler: very well thx
[2007/08/22 15: 00] Daedalus Young: I'mgood
[2007/08/22 15: 01] Torley Linden: Glad to see you guys already here, you're so helpful on the Issue Tracker. :D
[2007/08/22 15: 01] Daedalus Young: yeah, it's just a great thing to have
[2007/08/22 15: 01] Torley Linden: I remember when we didn't have it...
[2007/08/22 15: 01] Torley Linden: hehe... months ago...
[2007/08/22 15: 01] Torley Linden: things sure keep changing.
[2007/08/22 15: 01] Benja Kepler: indeed!
[2007/08/22 15: 02] Torley Linden: Do you guys have any thoughts on the "Fixed Internally" confusion?
[2007/08/22 15: 02] Benja Kepler: in what way?
[2007/08/22 15: 03] Torley Linden: Like, how it isn't clear enough that it's fixed in a Linden-only version and isn't public yet?
[2007/08/22 15: 03] Torley Linden: I've noticed a pattern where people reopen issues...
[2007/08/22 15: 03] Benja Kepler: ah
[2007/08/22 15: 03] Daedalus Young: hm, it's always been clear to me
[2007/08/22 15: 03] Torley Linden: They don't know the difference, which is why I put additional text under the comment box detailing it.
[2007/08/22 15: 03] Daedalus Young: yes, I noticed it
[2007/08/22 15: 03] Benja Kepler: so when it's imported, it stays on the PJIRA, perhaps that causes the problem?
[2007/08/22 15: 04] Torley Linden: Hmmm... how do you mean?
[2007/08/22 15: 04] Alont Lytton: hello
[2007/08/22 15: 04] Benja Kepler: so, LL QA takes an imported PJIRA issue, marks it as imported, then says 'fixed internally'
[2007/08/22 15: 04] Daedalus Young: hi
[2007/08/22 15: 04] Benja Kepler: so how can it be reopened?
[2007/08/22 15: 04] Torley Linden: The process is somewhat different;
[2007/08/22 15: 05] Benja Kepler: enlighten me, faz favor
[2007/08/22 15: 05] Torley Linden: PJIRA issues don't have to be imported only when they're fixed -- they are generally imported if they're recognized as a legit issue.
[2007/08/22 15: 05] Daedalus Young: hi Aric
[2007/08/22 15: 05] Torley Linden: Hey Aric!
[2007/08/22 15: 05] Aric Linden: hi folks
[2007/08/22 15: 05] Aric Linden: sorry i'm late
[2007/08/22 15: 05] Alont Lytton: hi
[2007/08/22 15: 05] Benja Kepler: hey Aric, you well?
[2007/08/22 15: 05] Torley Linden: So a PJIRA issue can actually (technically) be imported at ANY time. We choose to import ones that we can likely act on, or are confirmed.
[2007/08/22 15: 05] Daedalus Young: no prob
[2007/08/22 15: 05] Torley Linden: Aric, Bridie is trying to get in too, as is Iridium.
[2007/08/22 15: 05] Aric Linden: Hi Benja. I'm mostly tired
[2007/08/22 15: 05] Aric Linden: Thanks torley. it takes awhile. popular place ;-)
[2007/08/22 15: 06] Torley Linden: So, when an issue is fixed internally (in Linden Lab JIRA), then we also mark it Fixed Internally on PJIRA.
[2007/08/22 15: 06] Torley Linden: BUT... some people don't understand the significance between that and simply "Fixed".
[2007/08/22 15: 06] Torley Linden: So earlier, some of us Lindens were discussing ways to clarify that wording.
[2007/08/22 15: 06] Benja Kepler: ok, but shouldn't it be non-reopenable then (on PJIRA)?
[2007/08/22 15: 06] Aric Linden: Ahh. I just grokked your question Benja. I'm fine. How are you?
[2007/08/22 15: 06] Daedalus Young: Fixed Next Version, then would be clearer
[2007/08/22 15: 06] Benja Kepler: very well, thx!
[2007/08/22 15: 07] Alont Lytton: so... what are the topics today?
[2007/08/22 15: 07] Torley Linden: That's a very good point, Benja. Unfortunately I don't know a more granular way to allow Residents to resolve, but not reopen issues.
[2007/08/22 15: 07] Benja Kepler: k
[2007/08/22 15: 07] Daedalus Young: topic is viewer crashes
[2007/08/22 15: 07] Torley Linden: Prob is, "Fixed Next Version" isn't always true either, it may be "in a future" version generally... or "fixed pending release"... or "ready for release"... etc.
[2007/08/22 15: 07] Daedalus Young: see https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_triage/Viewer_Crashes_Agenda
[2007/08/22 15: 07] Benja Kepler: (some way of causing an electric shock might be of use)
[2007/08/22 15: 07] Daedalus Young: yes, I see
[2007/08/22 15: 07] Benja Kepler: (excuse my frivolousness)
[2007/08/22 15: 08] Torley Linden: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_triage/Viewer_Crashes_Agenda
[2007/08/22 15: 08] Torley Linden: So that's our agenda for today...
[2007/08/22 15: 08] Torley Linden: Feel free to have a look; I'm experiencing probs getting to the wiki.
[2007/08/22 15: 08] Benja Kepler: ok, you chair?
[2007/08/22 15: 08] Torley Linden: Bridie and Iridium still trying to log in.
[2007/08/22 15: 08] Torley Linden: I'm still hoping Bridie will make it in...
[2007/08/22 15: 08] Torley Linden: If not we'll get started in a few min.
[2007/08/22 15: 10] Alont Lytton: ugggh.... crashed again.... sorry :)
[2007/08/22 15: 10] Aric Linden: my biggest feature request for SL is smell o rama
[2007/08/22 15: 11] Benja Kepler: uh oh -
[2007/08/22 15: 11] Torley Linden: Haha Aric, I'd dig that too, it'll be funny when that's commonplace, like how talkie motion pictures came about.
[2007/08/22 15: 11] Benja Kepler: pong farms instead of ad farms....
[2007/08/22 15: 11] Torley Linden: Pong?
[2007/08/22 15: 11] Daedalus Young: or dung farms?
[2007/08/22 15: 11] Aric Linden: yea, torley. be swell. disable it for smokey SL bars and enable it for forests
[2007/08/22 15: 12] Benja Kepler: Client...Rendering...Pooh...Off
[2007/08/22 15: 12] Benja Kepler giggles
[2007/08/22 15: 12] Aric Linden: laughs
[2007/08/22 15: 12] Torley Linden: Ewwww.
[2007/08/22 15: 12] Torley Linden: :O
[2007/08/22 15: 12] Torley Linden: OK, I think it's a good idea to get started at least!
[2007/08/22 15: 12] Torley Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2006
[2007/08/22 15: 13] Torley Linden: Oh rats, I can't even log into the Issue Tracker right now.
[2007/08/22 15: 13] Benja Kepler: on this one you asked for a secondlife.log to be attached and they did
[2007/08/22 15: 13] Torley Linden: Ah yes -- are you guys able to login to Issue Tracker?
[2007/08/22 15: 13] Daedalus Young: 2006 is about logging out on teleport/log in attempt/sim crossing
[2007/08/22 15: 13] Benja Kepler: yes, have it
[2007/08/22 15: 14] Daedalus Young: I already have the page open
[2007/08/22 15: 14] Torley Linden: I'll restart my browser...
[2007/08/22 15: 14] Torley Linden: We did have known wiki slowdowns earlier.
[2007/08/22 15: 14] Benja Kepler: do you want a copy and paste job?
[2007/08/22 15: 14] Torley Linden: Looks like some of the servers hosting our wiki are working and others aren't...
[2007/08/22 15: 14] Torley Linden: Yes please!
[2007/08/22 15: 15] Torley Linden: Hmmm... I restarted Firefox and now It's timing out for me. :\
[2007/08/22 15: 15] Torley Linden: *after many refreshes it finally loaded*
[2007/08/22 15: 15] Torley Linden: Hey Simon!
[2007/08/22 15: 15] Torley Linden: Glad you could make it...
[2007/08/22 15: 15] Daedalus Young: hi Simon
[2007/08/22 15: 15] Torley Linden: wiki is acting up but we're at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_triage/Viewer_Crashes_Agenda
[2007/08/22 15: 15] Aric Linden: hi simon
[2007/08/22 15: 15] Alont Lytton: hi Simon :)
[2007/08/22 15: 16] Benja Kepler: vwr-2006 "At login screen Viewer will only connect to certain sims using start location and once on that certain sim Teleportation is not possible. It does not say connecting to region but only shows the words Second life then after a few moments of the bar moving it will give the message in a box you been logged out of Secondlife, you have been disconnected from the region you are in. The other error i recieve is when trying to log into certain sims from the login screen says waiting for region handshake then comes up with a message saying unable to connect, login packet never recived by login server. it has been doing this since right before 1.18.1.2 was released. "
[2007/08/22 15: 16] Simon Linden: hi folks
[2007/08/22 15: 16] Simon Linden: hi everyone
[2007/08/22 15: 16] Simon Linden: wow, network is slow for me
[2007/08/22 15: 16] Benja Kepler: hi Simon
[2007/08/22 15: 16] Daedalus Young: on 2006, I sometimes do get logged out on sim crossing, the new sim just never let me in or anything it seems
[2007/08/22 15: 16] Torley Linden: Thanks Benja and Daedalus...
[2007/08/22 15: 16] Daedalus Young: but it's a rare event
[2007/08/22 15: 16] Aric Linden: torley, did you actually talk with this guy?
[2007/08/22 15: 17] Torley Linden: I'm able to view the issue but can't login to edit.
[2007/08/22 15: 17] Torley Linden: Bridie and Iridium are still trying to login.
[2007/08/22 15: 17] Torley Linden: Aric, just in the comments there.
[2007/08/22 15: 17] Aric Linden: ahh. kk
[2007/08/22 15: 17] Torley Linden: This MAY be that bug Simon recently fixed internally...
[2007/08/22 15: 17] Torley Linden: having to do with teleport timeouts to non-public-access regions.
[2007/08/22 15: 18] Torley Linden: Can someone please leave a comment asking *which* regions they're trying to teleport to?
[2007/08/22 15: 18] Torley Linden: There are no region names in that issue.
[2007/08/22 15: 18] Aric Linden: I think it's worth importing. or, Simon, does the log tell you anything useful?
[2007/08/22 15: 18] Benja Kepler: ok, I;'ll do that
[2007/08/22 15: 18] Daedalus Young: I already did
[2007/08/22 15: 18] Torley Linden: Thanks!
[2007/08/22 15: 18] Daedalus Young: np
[2007/08/22 15: 19] Benja Kepler: ok
[2007/08/22 15: 19] Torley Linden: I'm unable to import but will make a note to check back on this one...
[2007/08/22 15: 19] Aric Linden: ok
[2007/08/22 15: 19] Torley Linden: We had the same problem recently with one of our Lindens...
[2007/08/22 15: 19] Torley Linden: and it turned out to be the one that Simon fixed, so I'd like to make sure.
[2007/08/22 15: 19] Aric Linden: should we move along?
[2007/08/22 15: 20] Torley Linden: Hey Wyn and Jansen!
[2007/08/22 15: 20] Torley Linden: AKA https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1664
[2007/08/22 15: 20] Simon Linden: That looks different than the stuff I fixed
[2007/08/22 15: 20] Wyn Galbraith: Took forever to log on.
[2007/08/22 15: 20] Jansen Miles: Hi there!
[2007/08/22 15: 20] Torley Linden: NEXT on our list...
[2007/08/22 15: 20] Torley Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2157
[2007/08/22 15: 20] Wyn Galbraith waves to everyone.
[2007/08/22 15: 20] Benja Kepler: hi wyn
[2007/08/22 15: 20] Torley Linden: Does it look like there's enough info on that to make it worth importing?
[2007/08/22 15: 20] Daedalus Young: hi
[2007/08/22 15: 21] Simon Linden: Torley: let's import that, it looks like something to fix
[2007/08/22 15: 21] Torley Linden: Since last time it came up, looks like Hoshi Kiama put a log.
[2007/08/22 15: 21] Torley Linden: OK, let me try to see if import works for me now...
[2007/08/22 15: 21] Torley Linden: (I'm persistent that way...)
[2007/08/22 15: 21] Torley Linden: Great, it appears import did work.
[2007/08/22 15: 21] Aric Linden: /applauds
[2007/08/22 15: 21] Daedalus Young: cool
[2007/08/22 15: 22] Torley Linden: Sec, I'll set this to triage internally, I miss Bridie and Iridium!
[2007/08/22 15: 22] Benja Kepler: awww
[2007/08/22 15: 22] Wyn Galbraith: Where'd you leave them, Torley?
[2007/08/22 15: 22] Torley Linden: They are at present trying to login...
[2007/08/22 15: 22] Torley Linden: after dozens of failed attempts.
[2007/08/22 15: 22] Aric Linden: torley, would it help if i drive the front and you can to the imports and comments?
[2007/08/22 15: 22] Wyn Galbraith: LOL
[2007/08/22 15: 22] Torley Linden: Great idea Aric!
[2007/08/22 15: 22] Torley Linden: Please do.
[2007/08/22 15: 22] Wyn Galbraith: It wasn't just me?
[2007/08/22 15: 23] Benja Kepler: I was 53rd to login - sad eh?
[2007/08/22 15: 23] Aric Linden: cool
[2007/08/22 15: 23] Wyn Galbraith: Took me 30 minutes.
[2007/08/22 15: 23] Aric Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2168 looks next
[2007/08/22 15: 23] Daedalus Young: looks like it could use a Source Code component
[2007/08/22 15: 24] Torley Linden: That looks good to import; a surprising rare-ish crash that has priority set correctly.
[2007/08/22 15: 24] Simon Linden: Yeah, import that one
[2007/08/22 15: 24] Torley Linden: Can you please add that Daedalus?
[2007/08/22 15: 24] Daedalus Young: sure
[2007/08/22 15: 24] Torley Linden: Thanks Aric and Simon, *imports*
[2007/08/22 15: 24] Aric Linden: If i'm reading this correctly, it looks like we'll have to add custom support here
[2007/08/22 15: 24] Torley Linden: I'll import after you add that component.
[2007/08/22 15: 24] Aric Linden: Should we take this up with apple?
[2007/08/22 15: 24] Torley Linden: I don't know what the implications for this one are.
[2007/08/22 15: 24] Aric Linden: ok
[2007/08/22 15: 25] Torley Linden: Simon?
[2007/08/22 15: 25] Daedalus Young: ok, added
[2007/08/22 15: 25] Aric Linden: i'm workign on some other stuff with apple and this would be ripe for that conversation if need be
[2007/08/22 15: 25] Aric Linden: Simon, let's chat about it
[2007/08/22 15: 25] Torley Linden: Ahh, good to know.
[2007/08/22 15: 25] Aric Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2052 is next
[2007/08/22 15: 25] Simon Linden: Torley - which one are you asking about?
[2007/08/22 15: 26] Torley Linden: Simon, the VWR-2168 earlier.
[2007/08/22 15: 26] Aric Linden: for https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2052 I think we need more info
[2007/08/22 15: 26] Daedalus Young: yes, I agree, Aric
[2007/08/22 15: 26] Torley Linden: Yeah, not much to go on there -- need logs.
[2007/08/22 15: 26] Simon Linden: No, it looks like we're just using a library in a way it shouldn't be
[2007/08/22 15: 26] Torley Linden: K thanks Simon.
[2007/08/22 15: 27] Simon Linden: Aric - yes, on that voice one we need more info
[2007/08/22 15: 27] Torley Linden: Can someone please resolve this and ask for a log? You can link them to http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Debug_Help
[2007/08/22 15: 28] Aric Linden: Sorry, i'm already onto https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2137
[2007/08/22 15: 28] Aric Linden: Which I think we should import
[2007/08/22 15: 29] Torley Linden: *looks*
[2007/08/22 15: 29] Torley Linden: Yeah Adam has a lot of logs there and lots of details.
[2007/08/22 15: 29] Simon Linden: yes, let's import that
[2007/08/22 15: 29] Torley Linden: I'll import, can someone please comment we've imported this? (I still can't login to the Issue Tracker, ugh.)
[2007/08/22 15: 29] Aric Linden: hold on, lemme login if i can
[2007/08/22 15: 29] Wyn Galbraith is having problems with the tracker too.
[2007/08/22 15: 29] Torley Linden: Thanks Aric.
[2007/08/22 15: 30] Benja Kepler: when you say you've imported it, Torley, do you have a ref number?
[2007/08/22 15: 30] Torley Linden: Benja, yup. The Linden Lab Issue ID.
[2007/08/22 15: 30] Torley Linden: After I import it...
[2007/08/22 15: 30] Torley Linden: refresh the page and you'll see that.
[2007/08/22 15: 30] Torley Linden: I already imported it.
[2007/08/22 15: 30] Torley Linden: So it should show up.
[2007/08/22 15: 30] Simon Linden: I can't log into make comments either
[2007/08/22 15: 30] Aric Linden: hums beethoven string quartet opus 132
[2007/08/22 15: 31] Simon Linden: it would be better if you could stream that around, Aric ...
[2007/08/22 15: 31] Torley Linden: So Benja, now you see that on that issue, it says "Linden Lab Issue ID = SL-52861".
[2007/08/22 15: 31] Benja Kepler: At login screen Viewer will only connect to certain sims using start location and once on that certain sim Teleportation is not possible.
[2007/08/22 15: 31] Aric Linden: grins at simon
[2007/08/22 15: 31] Benja Kepler: whioops
[2007/08/22 15: 31] Benja Kepler: wrong paste
[2007/08/22 15: 31] Torley Linden: Ahh music.
[2007/08/22 15: 31] Torley Linden: Soothe the soul.
[2007/08/22 15: 31] Benja Kepler: yes, I see it now Torley
[2007/08/22 15: 31] Aric Linden: you don't _really_ want to hear my humming do you?
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Wyn Galbraith: Are we having problems with internet connections in the Bay Area today? I had weird problems loading my earthlink start page this morning.
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Aric Linden: I can't login either
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Benja Kepler: 52861
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Simon Linden: Ah, I was thinking of original, non-copyrighted material...
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Aric Linden: lol
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Wyn Galbraith wonders if it's something screwy with the net. "Has happened before."
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Daedalus Young: I did the voice issue, 2052, also added Voice component
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Torley Linden: Yeah Benja, and that's the internal reference they can provide.
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Aric Linden: with appropriate disclaimers, of course
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Torley Linden: Great thanks Daedalus!
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Benja Kepler: infernal reference?
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Torley Linden: Your help is much appreciated in this time of brokenness.
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Benja Kepler: oh, sorry, I misread
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Torley Linden: Benja: Yes, that's what it is. That SL-52861 is the *internal issue* counterpart that we have on file.
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Torley Linden: Both of them are linked to each other.
[2007/08/22 15: 32] Benja Kepler: cool
[2007/08/22 15: 33] Torley Linden: It's kind of like parallel universes in a comic book.
[2007/08/22 15: 33] Aric Linden: so are we ready for https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2190
[2007/08/22 15: 33] Torley Linden: Yes, thanks Aric.
[2007/08/22 15: 33] Aric Linden: sure thing, Torley.
[2007/08/22 15: 33] Simon Linden: Let's import that one
[2007/08/22 15: 33] Benja Kepler: (that predict the future?)
[2007/08/22 15: 33] Torley Linden: Another one of Alissa's, hers are so good.
[2007/08/22 15: 33] Aric Linden: To quote Iridium, "the future is stupid"
[2007/08/22 15: 33] Torley Linden: Thanks for the rec. *imports VWR-2190*
[2007/08/22 15: 33] Torley Linden: Hahahaha.
[2007/08/22 15: 34] Torley Linden: K. That one's imported.
[2007/08/22 15: 34] Aric Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2194
[2007/08/22 15: 34] Aric Linden: um, this one's not a crash
[2007/08/22 15: 34] Benja Kepler: no, and Torley answered it in the issue
[2007/08/22 15: 34] Torley Linden: Oh yeah, I meant to mark that one as Misfiled earlier.
[2007/08/22 15: 34] Aric Linden: agreed
[2007/08/22 15: 34] Simon Linden: Let's ask for more info - crash logs, steps etc. if they have them
[2007/08/22 15: 35] Torley Linden: Or at least, change the summary because it's not clear.
[2007/08/22 15: 35] Aric Linden: Torley, thanks for referencing my blog post.
[2007/08/22 15: 35] Torley Linden: Oh that was Benja, Aric.
[2007/08/22 15: 35] Torley Linden: I'm glad he did!
[2007/08/22 15: 35] Benja Kepler: Vista works fine for me now ... after logging in as Administrator
[2007/08/22 15: 35] Simon Linden: That's actually a good point to add in that task
[2007/08/22 15: 35] Aric Linden: I suspect that the issue is that she's running non native drivers
[2007/08/22 15: 35] Alont Lytton: no for me :(
[2007/08/22 15: 35] Alont Lytton: not*
[2007/08/22 15: 36] Torley Linden: Can someone please retitle the summary and ask what Simon did?
[2007/08/22 15: 36] Torley Linden: (Who here is actually logged into PJIRA? Daedalus and Benja, anyone else?)
[2007/08/22 15: 36] Benja Kepler: I am - so why not delegate Torley?
[2007/08/22 15: 36] Torley Linden: Please do, Benja.
[2007/08/22 15: 37] Aric Linden: Next up https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1656
[2007/08/22 15: 37] Torley Linden: Good comment on that one, Benja...
[2007/08/22 15: 37] Benja Kepler: ;)
[2007/08/22 15: 37] Torley Linden: In contrast, this one has a *really* detailed summary. :O
[2007/08/22 15: 38] Torley Linden: What shall we do with this?
[2007/08/22 15: 38] Torley Linden: Unsupported hardware?
[2007/08/22 15: 38] Jansen Miles: I've seen this crash many times.
[2007/08/22 15: 39] Torley Linden: Jansen, can you please elaborate? Are you on similar hardware + software?
[2007/08/22 15: 39] Simon Linden: Sounds like a driver issue, but there's one gem of info - things work better with Aero off.
[2007/08/22 15: 39] Aric Linden: it would be interesting to get a follow up to find out what nvidia research shows
[2007/08/22 15: 39] Simon Linden: I'm not sure if we're doing it or not, but SL could turn Aero off when we run
[2007/08/22 15: 39] Jansen Miles: The only common hardware is NVIDIA gfx card.
[2007/08/22 15: 40] Torley Linden: Jansen, you mean the specific model? You also have a Quadro like that? Or, "NVIDIA" in general?
[2007/08/22 15: 40] Jansen Miles: I'm Athlon 64 3500+ 2GB RAM.
[2007/08/22 15: 40] Aric Linden: yeah. And I'm not sure that we've ever tested with the default nvidia install instead of the custom one per each card
[2007/08/22 15: 40] Jansen Miles: NVIDIA 6800 GT
[2007/08/22 15: 40] Torley Linden: OK, that is a supported card.
[2007/08/22 15: 40] Torley Linden: Import and investigate further?
[2007/08/22 15: 40] Aric Linden: yes
[2007/08/22 15: 40] Aric Linden: that's my vote
[2007/08/22 15: 40] Torley Linden: K.
[2007/08/22 15: 41] Jansen Miles: I'm seeing the crash less recently. It was quite common a month ago.
[2007/08/22 15: 41] Aric Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2069
[2007/08/22 15: 41] Alont Lytton: could it be that new nvidia cards are not yet supported in sl?
[2007/08/22 15: 41] Aric Linden: We must be getting better.
[2007/08/22 15: 41] Simon Linden: Let's import 2069
[2007/08/22 15: 41] Torley Linden: Done, Simon. =)
[2007/08/22 15: 42] Aric Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-502
[2007/08/22 15: 43] Aric Linden: I wonder if this is still an issue?
[2007/08/22 15: 43] Simon Linden: This looks old and has wandered to several issues. I suggest closing it with a note for people to open new issues if they still have them
[2007/08/22 15: 43] Hancing Amat: hi I'm proof -multiple works ok
[2007/08/22 15: 43] Jansen Miles: Just to finish my situation, I still get frequent lockups of several seconds, particularly when cam zooming out quickly. But they usually recover after 2 to 15 seconds and the graphics driver does not crash. These lockups are VERY common.
[2007/08/22 15: 43] Daedalus Young: it has 1.18.1.2 listed as affected version
[2007/08/22 15: 44] Alont Lytton: I get lock ups that are usually followed by the game crashing
[2007/08/22 15: 44] Torley Linden: I use -multiple every day too, BTW.
[2007/08/22 15: 44] Aric Linden: oh, so it does, Daedalus
[2007/08/22 15: 44] Aric Linden: Jansen, does the zoom lag occur on all sims or just some?
[2007/08/22 15: 44] Daedalus Young: the -multiple issue could have to do with Linux
[2007/08/22 15: 44] Daedalus Young: specific Linux issue
[2007/08/22 15: 45] Jansen Miles: Aric: I'll keep my eye on it with that in mind and report back to you.
[2007/08/22 15: 45] Aric Linden: Jansen, ty. that would be useful
[2007/08/22 15: 45] Jansen Miles: I spend most of my time in a single sandbox. :)
[2007/08/22 15: 45] Aric Linden: ahh
[2007/08/22 15: 45] Aric Linden: could be the problem. you need to get out more often. ;-)
[2007/08/22 15: 45] Torley Linden: OK... Benja can you please resolve VWR-502 with the note that Simon suggested?
[2007/08/22 15: 45] Jansen Miles: Hahah.
[2007/08/22 15: 45] Benja Kepler: ok
[2007/08/22 15: 45] Torley Linden: Again, thanks so much for helping with this.
[2007/08/22 15: 46] Aric Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2092 is next
[2007/08/22 15: 46] Torley Linden: OK, this one should be "Won't Finish" because Glow will be added as a stable feature in WindLight.
[2007/08/22 15: 46] Torley Linden: I do know the older iterations of it resulted in crashes as described...
[2007/08/22 15: 47] Torley Linden: Or actually -- "Fixed Internally" would be fine too.
[2007/08/22 15: 47] Torley Linden: "Fixed in WindLight" basically.
[2007/08/22 15: 47] Simon Linden: That works
[2007/08/22 15: 47] Aric Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2095
[2007/08/22 15: 47] Torley Linden: Benja, can you please do that? And set Fix Version to WindLight too.
[2007/08/22 15: 48] Torley Linden: =)
[2007/08/22 15: 48] Daedalus Young: I just did
[2007/08/22 15: 48] Aric Linden: I was going to suggest "fixed in a future release" but didn't want to go there
[2007/08/22 15: 48] Torley Linden: OH cool, thanks Daedalus.
[2007/08/22 15: 48] Daedalus Young: yw
[2007/08/22 15: 48] Jansen Miles: Ah. I've seen this crash too.
[2007/08/22 15: 48] Torley Linden: Aric: Yeah, but that just shows how much we need to reword that! =o)
[2007/08/22 15: 48] Benja Kepler: ok
[2007/08/22 15: 48] Aric Linden: lol
[2007/08/22 15: 48] Aric Linden: I like it. it's good jargon
[2007/08/22 15: 48] Torley Linden: I've heard several instances of VWR-2095 but don't have more conclusive info.
[2007/08/22 15: 48] Benja Kepler hums Melon SNow
[2007/08/22 15: 48] Aric Linden: giggles
[2007/08/22 15: 48] Torley Linden: Hahaha Benja.
[2007/08/22 15: 48] Aric Linden: I think we should import this one
[2007/08/22 15: 49] Simon Linden: It needs crash logs, however
[2007/08/22 15: 49] Jansen Miles: This is an unhandled exception somewhere?
[2007/08/22 15: 49] Aric Linden: yep, agreed simon
[2007/08/22 15: 49] Torley Linden: Perhaps we should resolve as Needs More Info for now asking for logs, then import it when it comes up again with logs?
[2007/08/22 15: 49] Aric Linden: and we don't have a repro environment for it
[2007/08/22 15: 49] Aric Linden: good idea torley
[2007/08/22 15: 49] Simon Linden: That sounds right Torley
[2007/08/22 15: 49] Torley Linden: Daedalus or Benja? Either of you want to do that? =)
[2007/08/22 15: 50] Aric Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2096
[2007/08/22 15: 50] Daedalus Young: I want to talk about the next one, so if Benja pleases
[2007/08/22 15: 50] Benja Kepler: ok
[2007/08/22 15: 50] Torley Linden: OK!
[2007/08/22 15: 50] Daedalus Young: I have 2096 happening too
[2007/08/22 15: 50] Torley Linden: I've seen VWR-2096 before, but inconsistently. Can't repro on my current machine. This reminds me of something Simon said earlier that I recall...
[2007/08/22 15: 50] Daedalus Young: I used the pre-voice version for a video repro I'm doing, because the latest version crashes
[2007/08/22 15: 51] Torley Linden: we are considering removing Movie to Disk because of how flakey it is -- and how 3rd-party tools, including free ones, do a better job. There are numerous problems (crashes and otherwise) with Movie to Disk...
[2007/08/22 15: 51] Daedalus Young: and not having other capturing software
[2007/08/22 15: 51] Torley Linden: But Simon also mentioned we need to help people find that stuff.
[2007/08/22 15: 51] Torley Linden: So I was thinking a wiki page in the vein of other ones I've done.
[2007/08/22 15: 51] Daedalus Young: I am looking for free software for Mac
[2007/08/22 15: 52] Torley Linden: Hmmm... that is a good question because I don't know one offhand.
[2007/08/22 15: 52] Daedalus Young: one that also captures the mouse pointer
[2007/08/22 15: 52] Torley Linden: Good thing for me to note and do research.
[2007/08/22 15: 52] Torley Linden: Wouldn't want to impair your video bug repros, they're appreciated.
[2007/08/22 15: 52] Simon Linden: FWIW, capturing the mouse can be really hard technically
[2007/08/22 15: 52] Torley Linden: Simon: What's the reason why?
[2007/08/22 15: 52] Daedalus Young: I have a few yet to test, will add if I find a good one on the wiki page if there then is one
[2007/08/22 15: 53] Torley Linden: I use FRAPS and interestingly, it captures the normal cursor but not the special one-click ones, and Windows-only I think.
[2007/08/22 15: 53] Aric Linden: I'm wondering if this is worth importing. it looks like it to me. Simon?
[2007/08/22 15: 53] Simon Linden: graphics card layering - the mouse isn't blended with the main image buffers until rendering
[2007/08/22 15: 53] Torley Linden: But about this issue -- import perhaps and link to the other broken movie to disk issues we have internally?
[2007/08/22 15: 53] Benja Kepler: has removing mMovie To Disk been suggested? - I'd agree with it
[2007/08/22 15: 53] Torley Linden: Benja, yes, it's an internal project with no external counterpart (so far).
[2007/08/22 15: 53] Benja Kepler: good
[2007/08/22 15: 53] Torley Linden: Data Linden reported it some weeks back.
[2007/08/22 15: 53] Simon Linden: Yes, but we need to make the decision to fix movie recording or go with outside apps and remove it. Let's import
[2007/08/22 15: 54] Torley Linden: *nod*
[2007/08/22 15: 54] Torley Linden: OK...
[2007/08/22 15: 54] Torley Linden: *imports and links*
[2007/08/22 15: 54] Benja Kepler: with Lore Linden?
[2007/08/22 15: 54] Benja Kepler giggles
[2007/08/22 15: 54] Torley Linden: Haha Benja, tell him that, he loves that one.
[2007/08/22 15: 54] Aric Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2203
[2007/08/22 15: 54] Aric Linden: is really happy simon linden is around
[2007/08/22 15: 54] Torley Linden: Me too! :D
[2007/08/22 15: 55] Simon Linden: I'm happy to be around as well :)
[2007/08/22 15: 55] Torley Linden: Simon's been doing a lot of fixes for longtime pains lately.
[2007/08/22 15: 55] Torley Linden: Really really cool. :)
[2007/08/22 15: 55] Jansen Miles: ty Simon
[2007/08/22 15: 55] Aric Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2203
[2007/08/22 15: 55] Simon Linden: 2203 looks OK to import, needs a linux guru to look at
[2007/08/22 15: 55] Simon Linden: It's under Freespire Linux
[2007/08/22 15: 56] Torley Linden: Who are all our Linux gurus right now? Don and Tofu I know...
[2007/08/22 15: 56] Aric Linden: I think that's it
[2007/08/22 15: 56] Aric Linden: someone else has ubuntu running
[2007/08/22 15: 56] Simon Linden: I don't know
[2007/08/22 15: 56] Torley Linden: *imports*
[2007/08/22 15: 56] Aric Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2158
[2007/08/22 15: 57] Simon Linden: Seems worth importing, but might be a QT issue
[2007/08/22 15: 57] Daedalus Young: hmm, would undeleting the dll fix this?
[2007/08/22 15: 57] Torley Linden: Yeah, reinstalling it eh? That seems to be the logical conclusion.
[2007/08/22 15: 57] Simon Linden: We may not be handling a QT failure properly, or they are not handling the missing DLL
[2007/08/22 15: 57] Aric Linden: it sort of seems like a QT issue to me
[2007/08/22 15: 57] Torley Linden: Something the Resident should check out... and reinstall cleanly.
[2007/08/22 15: 57] Aric Linden: I'd suggest we start by asking that he reinstall QT
[2007/08/22 15: 58] Aric Linden: great minds....
[2007/08/22 15: 58] Torley Linden: =D
[2007/08/22 15: 58] Torley Linden: Benja or Daedalus, can you please resolve as Needs More Info and make a note of that? (If you aren't doing that already, hehe.)
[2007/08/22 15: 58] Simon Linden: Yeah, but I'd like to see a log on this as well - if QT crashes, it's Apple's issue. If SL is crashing, we're probably not dealing with an error correctly.
[2007/08/22 15: 58] Aric Linden: last one https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1628 it's a feature request
[2007/08/22 15: 58] Benja Kepler: er, you can D!
[2007/08/22 15: 58] Torley Linden: Ah, good idea... hmmm... ask for the log too!
[2007/08/22 15: 58] Daedalus Young: ok, I will
[2007/08/22 15: 59] Benja Kepler: I just logged off pjira
[2007/08/22 15: 59] Simon Linden: If you program correctly, missing DLLs shouldn't cause a crash
[2007/08/22 15: 59] Torley Linden: I talked with Smiley about this before.
[2007/08/22 15: 59] Torley Linden: That's good to know, Simon.
[2007/08/22 15: 59] Benja Kepler: (midnight approaches....)
[2007/08/22 15: 59] Aric Linden: maybe we're just bailing because QT fails a self-check?
[2007/08/22 15: 59] Torley Linden: Not everyone with a TurboCache NVIDIA card freezes, but because they're lower-end cards, performance is generally not good.
[2007/08/22 16: 00] Torley Linden: Setting VRAM may help with this, since it lowers Second Life's RAM usage.
[2007/08/22 16: 00] Torley Linden: Setting VRAM lower.
[2007/08/22 16: 00] Torley Linden: No one else has voted for this since weeks ago.
[2007/08/22 16: 00] Daedalus Young: ok, added log request and QT reinstall
[2007/08/22 16: 00] Aric Linden: I think we may want to import this and add it to the internal discussion about updating the "what we support" page
[2007/08/22 16: 00] Simon Linden: Aric - yes, I'm wondering if SL isn't dealing with a QT error correctly
[2007/08/22 16: 01] Torley Linden: K Aric...
[2007/08/22 16: 01] Torley Linden: Part of the "what we support" should be higher minimum RAM I think... it's common right now for SL to use at least a few hundred megs.
[2007/08/22 16: 01] Aric Linden: Torley, i agree with you.
[2007/08/22 16: 01] Torley Linden: (And on a system with 512 MB, or even in some cases, on 1024 MB that doesn't leave much room to spare!)
[2007/08/22 16: 01] Torley Linden: Imported that one!
[2007/08/22 16: 02] Torley Linden: Thanks! I think we went at a pretty good pace given the difficulties today.
[2007/08/22 16: 02] Simon Linden: Sorry to go back - what happened to 2158?
[2007/08/22 16: 02] Simon Linden: The QT bug
[2007/08/22 16: 02] Torley Linden: Bridie and Iridium are still unable to login... but I'm glad you could be here, Aric and Simon!
[2007/08/22 16: 03] Torley Linden: Simon, I imported that and Daedalus left a comment asking for a log and QT reinstall.
[2007/08/22 16: 03] Daedalus Young: 2158 I added Need More Info and log request and QT reinstall
[2007/08/22 16: 03] Torley Linden: Er, I mean, I didn't import that.
[2007/08/22 16: 03] Aric Linden: I gotta run.
[2007/08/22 16: 03] Torley Linden: We can import it upon receipt of more info.
[2007/08/22 16: 03] Benja Kepler: good night, all!
[2007/08/22 16: 03] Torley Linden: OK Aric thanks for running through the list!
[2007/08/22 16: 03] Aric Linden: Torley thanks for hosting. nicely done, dude.
[2007/08/22 16: 03] Wyn Galbraith: Bye.
[2007/08/22 16: 03] Torley Linden: Always happy to help.
[2007/08/22 16: 03] Simon Linden: Please go ahead and import and you can assign the internal one to me. SHoudl be a really easy quick test to see who has the problem
[2007/08/22 16: 03] Torley Linden: K Simon, will do!
[2007/08/22 16: 04] Aric Linden: and yea! Simon
[2007/08/22 16: 04] Simon Linden: bye

[2007/08/22 16: 04] Daedalus Young: if anybody knows about, or could it be temporary during the grid being problematic
[2007/08/22 16: 05] Daedalus Young: I'll copy paste what he said:
[2007/08/22 16: 05] Wyn Galbraith: I've had that problem Daedalus.

[2007/08/22 16: 07] Wyn Galbraith: Or get a RL job, which ever comes first ;)
[2007/08/22 16: 07] Jansen Miles: Hmm. Are all debug settings reset on relog? And is that being addressed in a future release, then?

[2007/08/22 16: 07] Daedalus Young: thanks Torley
[2007/08/22 16: 07] Torley Linden: Not *all*, but some. A lot of the ones in Client menu > Debug Settings persist.
[2007/08/22 16: 07] Daedalus Young: I'll tell them Wyn
[2007/08/22 16: 07] Wyn Galbraith: That seems to be the standard step.
[2007/08/22 16: 07] Torley Linden: We have historically over time made "safe" ones persist.
