- [11:32] Teleport completed from LindenWorld C (243,56,26)
- [11:32] Xugu Madison: hey Samuel!
- [11:32] Samuel Linden: hiya
- [11:32] Ranos BrumerRanos Brumer waves.
- [11:32] Samuel Linden: I think we're gonna do text as opposed to voice again today
- [11:33] Xugu Madison: Yay!
- [11:33] Xugu Madison: (I have a cold, to start with, don't think talking would work anyway)
- [11:33] Samuel Linden: I think it's more democratic
- [11:33] Samuel Linden: not everyone uses voice
- [11:34] Xugu Madison: Also easier for anyone dropping in mid-way through, transcripts..
- [11:34] xstorm Radek: Samuel i hear you scared off some new people
- [11:34] Samuel Linden: did I really?
- [11:34] xstorm Radek: ;-) lol
- [11:34] Ranos Brumer: hmm
- [11:34] Bronson Blackadder: lol
- [11:35] Samuel Linden: so what do folks want to talk about today?
- [11:35] xstorm Radek: yes im a old evil and mean person
- [11:35] Bronson Blackadder: meaning of life?
- [11:35] Bronson Blackadder: secrets of the universe?
- [11:35] Samuel Linden: 23
- [11:35] Xugu MadisonXugu Madison ponders "Identifying the avatar making media-on-a-prim HTTP requests? For door controls and similar..."
- [11:35] xstorm Radek: you do know what this OH is for right ?
- [11:36] Samuel Linden: Xugu, that's an excellent point
- [11:36] xstorm Radek: 42
- [11:36] xstorm Radek: and have a towel
- [11:36] Samuel Linden: Xugu, we are looking at a few different solutions for poking Avatar info into the web context
- [11:36] Samuel Linden: but it's a tricky issue
- [11:37] Xugu Madison: Yes, yes it is. Good luck with that :)
- [11:37] Samuel Linden: to what extent should the webpage be able to trust the info?
- [11:37] Samuel Linden: it should be secure, which is challenging
- [11:37] xstorm Radek: What turning avatars in to a web based system is nut
- [11:37] Xugu Madison: Have the media-on-a-prim settings include a shared secret. MD5 the avatar name with the shared secret and send it is confirmation?
- [11:38] xstorm Radek: why not go back to the black and white text only then
- [11:38] Samuel Linden: Xugu, that might work
- [11:38] Samuel Linden: we'll share some thoughts when we've got them organized
- [11:39] xstorm Radek: its crazy to go back
- [11:39] Samuel Linden: so we did some investigating of Google's SafeBrowsing
- [11:39] Samuel Linden: it's quite complex, and isn't a 100% solution
- [11:39] xstorm Radek: 3D and a 3D world is the way to go
- [11:40] Samuel Linden: did anyone have other topics?
- [11:40] xstorm Radek: and did you know google had a virus that got past there systems and trandmited it to people around the world
- [11:40] Samuel Linden: shall I put a topic suggestion area on the wiki?
- [11:40] Bronson Blackadder: yes you should Sam
- [11:40] Ranos Brumer: Sounds like a good idea to me.
- [11:40] Samuel Linden: xstorm, I am not sure what that means
- [11:41] Samuel Linden: there are many ways to defeat safe browsing tech
- [11:41] Samuel Linden: it might provide some protection from common phishing and malware domains
- [11:41] Bronson Blackadder: basicly Sam whats teh potential for a internet virus to infect SL?
- [11:41] xstorm Radek: yes i have one drop the crapy support team on Linden Lab support and replace it back to the real linden lab workers
- [11:42] Samuel Linden: Bronson, viruses don't really infect SL
- [11:42] Bronson Blackadder: whats teh potential for one to get ttransfered through shared media?
- [11:42] Samuel Linden: the possibility of remote code execution is fairly remote, and similar to that of a desktop browser
- [11:43] Xugu Madison: Samuel, I think the concern is from those of us who lock down our desktop browsers heavily (AdBlock, NoScript, NoFlash)
- [11:43] Samuel Linden: we are working to update security fixes to our browser as they come to light
- [11:43] Xugu Madison: Possibly having individual options for blocking JS/Flash might help
- [11:43] xstorm Radek: it can not work in SL but can trans from the media flash to the user
- [11:43] Samuel Linden: Xugu, you can do similar things to the web browser in beta 5
- [11:43] Xugu Madison: Ooooooh....
- [11:43] Samuel Linden: you can turn off javascript and plugins (flash)
- [11:44] Ranos Brumer: Nice.
- [11:44] Xugu Madison: Another request.... media on a prim from notecards (so we can create textures from SVG images in notecards)?
- [11:44] Samuel Linden: this came from office hours
- [11:44] Bronson Blackadder: are these off by default?
- [11:44] Samuel Linden: so thank you
- [11:44] Bronson Blackadder: then enable as you wish?
- [11:44] Samuel Linden: no, they are not off by default
- [11:44] xstorm Radek: your not using Viewer 2 Samuel ?
- [11:44] Samuel Linden: that would substantially break most websites
- [11:44] Samuel Linden: yes
- [11:44] Samuel Linden: I have been using it for 6 months
- [11:45] Bronson Blackadder: how long have you been in SL sam?
- [11:45] Samuel Linden: can't you see my born date?
- [11:45] xstorm Radek: so your telling us you have turn off all your settings Samuel ?
- [11:45] Clinton Oddfellow: Good Morning, Samuel
- [11:46] Samuel Linden: if you wish to turn off javascript and plugins, you can do so
- [11:46] Samuel Linden: we have not made that the default state
- [11:46] Samuel Linden: I have been at SL almost 3 years
- [11:46] Samuel Linden: Linden rather
- [11:46] xstorm Radek: no im asking if you have turn off your settings ?
- [11:46] Samuel Linden: no, I have not
- [11:46] Samuel Linden: I also leave autoplay on
- [11:46] Chaley May: i always miss this office hour :(
- [11:46] Samuel Linden: what I have done is gotten good at using the Nearby Media Controls
- [11:47] Samuel Linden: this is our hope
- [11:47] xstorm Radek: then are you telling others to turn off there settings ?
- [11:47] Xugu Madison: Any hope of serving content off notecards?
- [11:47] Samuel Linden: xstorm I am telling people who are concerned
- [11:47] Samuel Linden: Xugu I believe Kelly had some demos of that
- [11:47] xstorm Radek: are you going to tell them how ?
- [11:48] Samuel Linden: personally?
- [11:48] xstorm Radek: and how to turn it back on ?
- [11:48] Samuel Linden: it's in prefs
- [11:48] Samuel Linden: we have blogged about it, and it will be in the release notes
- [11:48] Ranos Brumer: I'm sure there will be a tab atleast in the preferences.
- [11:48] Samuel Linden: yes, there is a tab in preferences
- [11:48] Samuel Linden: we also fixed a bug with cookies
- [11:48] Chaley May: what are you discussing?
- [11:49] Ranos Brumer: V 2 UI and Shared media
- [11:49] Samuel Linden: Shared Media security :)
- [11:49] Bronson Blackadder: bugs on cookies are gross
- [11:49] Samuel Linden: this seems to be a common thread at my office hours
- [11:49] Samuel Linden: +1 bronson
- [11:49] Ranos Brumer: For obvious reasons. Security is an important aspect of browsing.
- [11:49] Samuel Linden: I couldn't agree more
- [11:49] Xugu MadisonXugu Madison suspects the message is we love the feature except for security concerns
- [11:49] Chaley May: worse if you mistake them for a chocolate chip and eat them anyway
- [11:50] xstorm Radek: so will you take the place of Nyx linden ?
- [11:50] Samuel Linden: nope
- [11:50] Samuel Linden: Nyx still has office hours
- [11:50] Samuel Linden: he is lending me his office
- [11:50] xstorm Radek: Linden Lab did not setup a office for you ?
- [11:50] Xugu Madison: hey Nyx!
- [11:51] Samuel Linden: I am in the process of setting up my own office
- [11:51] Bronson Blackadder: hiya Nyx :)
- [11:51] Ranos Brumer: Speak of the robot.
- [11:51] xstorm Radek: is this to tell us they no longer give there workers a office of there own ?
- [11:51] Xugu Madison: xstorm, I think it's mostly that there's a massive cross-over interested groups, so might as well just smush the meetings together
- [11:51] Samuel Linden: I am not sure they ever did
- [11:51] Samuel Linden: I could ask to have one built for me
- [11:51] xstorm Radek: in 2003 they did not
- [11:51] Clinton Oddfellow: Hello Nyx :)
- [11:51] xstorm Radek: but later on they did
- [11:52] Nyx Linden: just here to set up early - don't let me interrupt :)
- [11:52] Ardy Lay: I suppose I should find out why Flash doesn't work in Viewer 2.0 for me. Not sure what I would use it for but people are raving about it.
- [11:52] Samuel Linden: Ardy what OS?
- [11:52] Ardy Lay: Windows 7 64 bit Edition
- [11:52] Ranos Brumer: I have yet to even check out the shared media.
- [11:52] Bronson Blackadder: I think we need a House of Parliment style of OH where everyine yells at each other across the isle for an hour
- [11:52] Samuel Linden: yeah, there are some issues with 64 bit
- [11:52] Bronson Blackadder: aisle
- [11:52] Clinton Oddfellow: Did I miss any discussion of shared media parcel autoplay control earlier, Samuel?
- [11:52] Xugu Madison: Ardy, web games? Vectored images?
- [11:52] Ardy Lay: Flash works when using IE
- [11:52] xstorm Radek: so Samuel do you feel Linden labs is letting you down by not having a place for you to setup your office ?
- [11:52] Samuel Linden: no Clinton
- [11:52] Samuel Linden: do you have questions about it?
- [11:53] Xugu MadisonXugu Madison makes all his store images from SVGs, could save a bucket load of bandwidth if he could stream them directly..
- [11:53] Samuel Linden: xstorm, let's stick to serious questions
- [11:53] Ardy Lay: Xugu, I don't know what's on the prims. I just see a blue LEGO block.
- [11:53] Samuel Linden: Xugu, you can stream svg in data urls, right?
- [11:53] Clinton Oddfellow: I just want to clarify how it works -- the way I understand it now, controls on a parcel (not estate) level will allow parcel owners to disable autoplay of shared media, but will still allow users to click on a shared media prim and have it play?
- [11:53] Samuel Linden: Ardy, do you have the Flash 10 dll?
- [11:53] xstorm Radek: if linden labs can not provide for there own workers how is that not importent ?
- [11:53] Xugu MadisonXugu Madison nods to Samuel "Could do.... I'd rather assumed a multi-kb data URL might be tricky though."
- [11:54] Samuel Linden: Clinton, we are still looking into that feature
- [11:54] Ardy Lay: Gotta dig through the filesystem looking for that?
- [11:54] Clinton Oddfellow: Please do, and if you do, please implement it on a parcel level, not an estate level.
- [11:54] Samuel Linden: well we don't install falsh
- [11:54] Clinton Oddfellow: us mainlanders need the tools too :P
- [11:54] Samuel Linden: flash
- [11:54] Samuel Linden: you have to have do that yourself
- [11:55] Ardy Lay: Flash works in IE
- [11:55] Samuel Linden: it will be on the parcel level
- [11:55] Ardy Lay: Is that different?
- [11:55] Clinton Oddfellow: Okay, good.
- [11:55] Samuel Linden: yeah, IE uses an activex control
- [11:55] Samuel Linden: you need the dll
- [11:55] Xugu MadisonXugu Madison would love to be able to set to only play media on prims belonging to owner of the parcel (be that resident or group)
- [11:55] Ranos Brumer: You know I may need to see if flash works for me too. I am running Windows 7 Proffesional 64bit
- [11:55] Ardy Lay: Okay, I'll hunt for it later then.
- [11:55] Samuel Linden: 5 minute time check
- [11:56] Clinton Oddfellow: I'm glad to hear controls will be on the parcel level. Any idea on the timeline for discusson of autoplay disable? I don't want to sound like a broken record asking every week and pissing you off :P
- [11:57] Samuel Linden: Clinton, I am not sure of the timeline yet
- [11:57] Chaley May: i would still like to use the backwards/forwards buttons on my mouse to browse webpages :)
- [11:57] Xugu Madison: Chaley, your mouse has back/forwards?
- [11:57] Clinton Oddfellow: Okay. I'll be back to ask periodically about it :)
- [11:57] Xugu MadisonXugu Madison 's mouse feels somehow... inferior
- [11:57] Morgaine Dinova: Jacek! Wow, nice to see you at Nyx's, pretty rare :-)
- [11:58] Morgaine Dinova: Oh, Jacek poofed
- [11:58] Xugu Madison: and she's gone :(
- [11:58] Clinton Oddfellow: We just want to ensure that we don't get some...antisocial individual walking into our social area with a giant goatse billboard, or a big-screen attached to their head playing 2girls1cup or something.
- [11:58] Morgaine DinovaMorgaine Dinova gets ready with repaste button
- [11:58] Samuel Linden: I hear you clinton... it's important
- [11:58] Ceawlin Steamweaver: Forsooth!!! Tis I. :3
- [11:58] Samuel Linden: it will also require a simulator update
- [11:58] Ranos Brumer: ooh yes.
- [11:58] Clinton Oddfellow: *nodnods*
- [11:58] Morgaine Dinova: Wb Jacek :-)
- [11:58] Xugu MadisonXugu Madison nods to Clinton "Exactly. I tend to be willing to trust the owner of parcels I'm on. People on that parcel, not so much"
- [11:58] Ranos Brumer: How will such things be enforced?
- [11:58] Ceawlin Steamweaver: !stand Morg
- [11:59] xstorm Radek: OMG!!
- [11:59] Jacek Antonelli: Thanks Morgaine. Viewer 2's not so stable for me, alas. :\
- [11:59] Xugu Madison: Jacek, stay! You're interesting and new, and I don't think we've met yet, and I want to see what you make of the meeting/do to Nyx's brain :)
- [11:59] Samuel Linden: ok folks, thanks for coming this week
- [11:59] Morgaine Dinova: Awww, damn, nobody advised of Samuel's OH in Groupies, and it's not in the HUD
- [11:59] Clinton Oddfellow: Thank you for your time, Samuel, I appreciate you answering my question
- [11:59] Morgaine Dinova: Anyone got a transcript?
- [11:59] xstorm Radek: .antisocial individual is what the new support staff are
- [11:59] Ranos Brumer: Thanks for your time.
- [11:59] Ceawlin Steamweaver: :o
- [12:00] Chaley May: thanx samuel
- [12:00] Samuel Linden: I'll put it up on the wiki
- [12:00] Ceawlin Steamweaver: What do you do at LL, Samuel?
- [12:00] Samuel Linden: also I will put a space to suggest topics
- [12:00] Morgaine Dinova: Thanks Samuel.
- [12:00] Xugu MadisonXugu Madison glances up "Arrrgh, giant sidebars!"
- [12:00] Samuel Linden: Court Jester Ceawlin
- [12:00] Chaley May: Nyx do i need to log into viewer 2 for what your doing?
