[2008/10/09 12:02] Torley Linden: yes Squirrel!
[2008/10/09 12:02] Squirrel Wood: ^^
[2008/10/09 12:02] Torley Linden: i didn't use it on your actual labyrinth yet tho
[2008/10/09 12:02] Squirrel Wood: almost pitch black it is
[2008/10/09 12:02] Torley Linden: yeah i like those extreme effects
[2008/10/09 12:02] Torley Linden: that sounds like something Yoda would say!
[2008/10/09 12:03] Crash Prefect: ive been trying to get poeple to guess who i carved into this pumpkin.....
[2008/10/09 12:03] Squirrel Wood: the force within you feel I can.
[2008/10/09 12:03] Charlotte Bartlett: opps sorry

[2008/10/09 12:04] Crash Prefect: didnt even know you had office hours
[2008/10/09 12:04] Torley Linden: no prob, hiya Charlotte!
[2008/10/09 12:04] Squirrel Wood: you should try labyrinth for skylines with neon shields, lit windows and the like ^^
[2008/10/09 12:04] Crash Prefect: i always just go to Qarl's office hours
[2008/10/09 12:04] Torley Linden: kewl, Crash... we've been doing a lot of redecorating :)
[2008/10/09 12:04] Charlotte Bartlett: :) Hi all...sorry just saw your Tweet.
[2008/10/09 12:04] Torley Linden: i decided on a lark to make the default day time NIGHT yesterday, or early morning anyway
[2008/10/09 12:04] Squirrel Wood: Crash, http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Office_Hours
[2008/10/09 12:04] Torley Linden: oh cool that you did Charlotte!
[2008/10/09 12:05] Charlotte Bartlett looks where to sit down doesn't want to squash Crash's pumpkin head.....
[2008/10/09 12:05] Crash Prefect: may i ask what the usual topic of discussion is in your office hours torley? community enhancement etc?
[2008/10/09 12:05] Master Pye: Here's room :-)
[2008/10/09 12:05] Charlotte Bartlett: thank you :)
[2008/10/09 12:05] Squirrel Wood: latex, polka, music, melons, avatars, ...
[2008/10/09 12:05] Torley Linden: Crash, it usually is in extreme flux -- but yeah, usually stuff about video tutorials, making SL easier to use, little wins that make a big difference
[2008/10/09 12:06] Torley Linden: if you have questions i can answer, i'm all for it :)
[2008/10/09 12:06] Crash Prefect nods
[2008/10/09 12:06] Crash Prefect: yeah i totally have questions, lol
[2008/10/09 12:06] Torley Linden: tip guides, compiling info so it's easier to find, etc. :)
[2008/10/09 12:06] Torley Linden: thanx for forwarding Scratch btw, i totally <3 stuff like that
[2008/10/09 12:06] Holocluck Henly shouts: okay where are yous?
[2008/10/09 12:06] Charlotte Bartlett: Cool, Torley - we just added some videos to our Orientation Island - any plans for more more more? :) We are addicts.
[2008/10/09 12:06] Crash Prefect: oh! awesome, i wasnt sure it'd make it to you, or if youd already seen it
[2008/10/09 12:06] Squirrel Wood: I don't know if you ever played Horizons Torley but the Hz dragons are now available in SL. baby, adult, ancient and even the khutit form ones ^^
[2008/10/09 12:07] Holocluck Henly: heyas
[2008/10/09 12:07] Torley Linden: yeah, i've been familiar with it for awhile, BUT... haven't used it a lot myself... would like to get dedicated time to really intensely focused
[2008/10/09 12:07] Torley Linden: oh neat to hear Charlotte! which videos in particular? any topics you want?
[2008/10/09 12:07] Torley Linden: never played it Squirrel, is this avatar i have like the dragons in that?
[2008/10/09 12:07] Torley Linden: heya Holocluck!
[2008/10/09 12:08] Squirrel Wood: the ancient one is biiiiiig ^^
[2008/10/09 12:08] Holocluck Henly has a quandary. wants to learn wings. has yet to find a REAL tutorial that teaches how to use the different features. everything has people mumbling and you cant read the menus they pick etc. is there a REAL way to learn how to make controlled shapes and extrusions?
[2008/10/09 12:08] Crash Prefect: yeah theres some good tutorials, i actually started on wings back when sculpties first came out
[2008/10/09 12:09] Haka: Type 'haka' to booing action
[2008/10/09 12:09] le Salut chaotique whispers: Type 'eeee' to booing action
[2008/10/09 12:09] Haka: Type 'haka stop' to stop action
[2008/10/09 12:09] Holocluck Henly: heya toy!
[2008/10/09 12:09] Torley Linden: Holocluck, not sure which ones you've seen already, but re: build tools, i am hoping to do a fuller guide to that in the future. "the future" being, when the revamped blogs/forums are out.
[2008/10/09 12:09] Toy LaFollette: Konichiwa <Hi> (^_^)
[2008/10/09 12:09] Torley Linden: heyhey Toy! long time! :)
[2008/10/09 12:09] Torley Linden: aren't paint chips hazardrous? :D
[2008/10/09 12:09] Toy LaFollette: Hiyas T :)
[2008/10/09 12:09] Torley Linden: neat little game AO
[2008/10/09 12:09] Holocluck Henly: i did searches on youtube and google
[2008/10/09 12:09] Toy LaFollette: not to me Im supoer Toy
[2008/10/09 12:10] Holocluck Henly: someone made a house someone made a plane ...
[2008/10/09 12:10] Crash Prefect: torley, i was talking to someone named Willow earlier, she was running around trying to help people on your sim here.
[2008/10/09 12:10] CeeJay Tigerpaw has an interesting wearable dragon pet ...
[2008/10/09 12:10] Holocluck Henly: i cant make anything but a deformed thingamajig
[2008/10/09 12:10] Torleyite (CLICK ME FOR TIPS!) shouts: Want your business or cool place to be found? Make sure to go to About Land > Options tab and check 'Show Place in Search'.
[2008/10/09 12:10] Crash Prefect: and i mentioned to her that your sim felt like a giant Myspace page
[2008/10/09 12:10] Torley Linden: oh yeah Willow is rather enthusiastic :) hahaha
[2008/10/09 12:10] Crash Prefect: and than i thought that why shouldn't more people have a myspace page like this
[2008/10/09 12:10] Torley Linden: HAHAHAHAAH
[2008/10/09 12:10] Holocluck Henly: funny your myspace page doesnt feel like this sim
[2008/10/09 12:10] Torley Linden: not even my MySpace page is as interesting
[2008/10/09 12:10] Torley Linden: ;)
[2008/10/09 12:10] Crash Prefect: well i mean
[2008/10/09 12:10] Holocluck Henly snickers
[2008/10/09 12:10] Crash Prefect: more poeple should use SL like you do
[2008/10/09 12:11] Crash Prefect: i mean i guess there are other 3d web apps
[2008/10/09 12:11] Crash Prefect: that can serve that purpose
[2008/10/09 12:11] Crash Prefect: but youd have to browse via FF or IE
[2008/10/09 12:11] Torley Linden: Holocluck, about sculpties too -- have you seen Vlad Bjornson's tutorials? i think they're mainly for commercial stuff like ZBrush but may be of use... similar principles
[2008/10/09 12:11] Squirrel Wood: thar. to your left. the avatar of pain along with the "human size" Khutit dragon 'form' ^^
[2008/10/09 12:11] Torley Linden: thanks Crash, haha -- the whole point of this island is to set an example, live Second Life by example =)
[2008/10/09 12:11] Holocluck Henly: i like his stuff but no his tutorials for this didnt help. the plop one was great but then plop saved as a -- queue scary music -- jpeg
[2008/10/09 12:12] Crash Prefect: well, like all ive ever used secondlife for is commercial sim development and darklife
[2008/10/09 12:12] Torley Linden: PlopSL had some really weird jaggy/bizarre shape problems
[2008/10/09 12:12] Crash Prefect: but i always wanted a personal "site" like this
[2008/10/09 12:12] Toy LaFollette: any form of helping is good as long as it is help hehe
[2008/10/09 12:12] Torley Linden: ahhh Crash i see
[2008/10/09 12:12] Holocluck Henly: hats because of the compression re plop
[2008/10/09 12:12] Crash Prefect: i mean i guess its a bit expension....
[2008/10/09 12:12] Crash Prefect: expensive*
[2008/10/09 12:12] Holocluck Henly: i wanted to make inflatable lawn ornaments and it didnt quite work out
[2008/10/09 12:12] CeeJay Tigerpaw: I have been playing with sculpties in blender. Very powerful software, but possibly the worst UI I have ever seen, and little documentation. But the price is right.
[2008/10/09 12:12] Squirrel Wood: Plop only ever crashed for me
[2008/10/09 12:12] Squirrel Wood: on save
[2008/10/09 12:13] Crash Prefect: yeah plopp doesnt seem to work as well lately
[2008/10/09 12:13] Holocluck Henly: i thought plop was fun :P
[2008/10/09 12:13] Crash Prefect: i tried to teach it to someone
[2008/10/09 12:13] Crash Prefect: and it didnt work as well as i remembered it to be
[2008/10/09 12:13] Holocluck Henly: take them to bjorn's site
[2008/10/09 12:13] Torley Linden: i feel there still could be a lot to make sculpties more accessible
[2008/10/09 12:13] Leaf Michalski: FRIENDLY GREETINGS
[2008/10/09 12:13] Leaf Michalski: lol
[2008/10/09 12:13] Torley Linden: nice that some people are introducing "clip art"-style kits tho
[2008/10/09 12:13] Aimee Trescothick: hey :)
[2008/10/09 12:13] Leaf Michalski: whats goin on torley
[2008/10/09 12:13] Crash Prefect: yeah thats neat, sculpty packs
[2008/10/09 12:14] Torley Linden: FRIENDLY GREETINGS LEAF :)
[2008/10/09 12:14] Jaymes Kjeller: Yeah, Blender's UI is very complex. I have tried to make a sculptie in Hexagon and Sculptypaint. I haven't acctually put it inworld, though.
[2008/10/09 12:14] Leaf Michalski: im master nestlers friend im not sure if u remember or not
[2008/10/09 12:14] Leaf Michalski: lol
[2008/10/09 12:14] Bloodfrom Inglewood gave you Casual AO v.2.0.
[2008/10/09 12:14] Charlotte Bartlett: Do you guys use other stuff like Cinema 4d - 3dmax?
[2008/10/09 12:15] Holocluck Henly: i cant afford 3dmax
[2008/10/09 12:15] Bloodfrom Inglewood: I tried it before
[2008/10/09 12:15] Bloodfrom Inglewood: Get the tottrent
[2008/10/09 12:15] Torley Linden: Modo looks very elegant; i haven't done it firsthand
[2008/10/09 12:15] Charlotte Bartlett: I converted over from Maya found it cool with the SL tools now on it
[2008/10/09 12:15] Torley Linden: ahhh
[2008/10/09 12:15] Holocluck Henly: is my head copiable? LOL
[2008/10/09 12:16] Holocluck Henly: I made it melonish for the occasion
[2008/10/09 12:16] Crash Prefect: ok so,...torley. i saw your video with the dynamic shadows
[2008/10/09 12:16] Holocluck Henly: free to anyone
[2008/10/09 12:16] Torley Linden: i don't think you can copy an attachment like that
[2008/10/09 12:16] Holocluck Henly: lol
[2008/10/09 12:16] Torley Linden: have to rez it as an independent object
[2008/10/09 12:16] Crash Prefect: very nice,..is that some sortof publicly available optionaly client?
[2008/10/09 12:16] Crash Prefect: optional*
[2008/10/09 12:16] Holocluck Henly: eep
[2008/10/09 12:16] Aimee Trescothick: cut your head off and rez it lol
[2008/10/09 12:16] Torley Linden: ah yes Crash? yes, that feature is experimental but if you can build your own viewer it's out there as shadow-draft... KirstenLee Cinquetti's viewer has it too
[2008/10/09 12:17] CeeJay Tigerpaw: Is there a simple program somewhere that will read a text file of 3D coordinates and write them out as a .tga file? I am lazy enough to ask before I write one.
[2008/10/09 12:17] Torley Linden: CeeJay, that sounds vaguely familiar but i'm not sure off the top of my head.
[2008/10/09 12:17] Charlotte Bartlett yay for shadows - KristenLee's stuff is cool :)
[2008/10/09 12:17] Naxos Loon: hi all
[2008/10/09 12:17] Torley Linden: hiya Naxos :)
[2008/10/09 12:17] Crash Prefect: is that something that LL is thinking about putting into the main grid torley?
[2008/10/09 12:17] Naxos Loon: ha hey hey
[2008/10/09 12:17] Torley Linden: Crash, working towards it, yes.
[2008/10/09 12:17] Holocluck Henly: it went somewhere LOL
[2008/10/09 12:17] Leaf Michalski: brb
[2008/10/09 12:18] Torley Linden: Runitai Linden is the main engineer behind those dynamic shadows.
[2008/10/09 12:18] Toy LaFollette: as long as shadows dont add lag :)
[2008/10/09 12:18] Holocluck Henly: i lost my head
[2008/10/09 12:18] Crash Prefect: everything adds lag
[2008/10/09 12:18] Crash Prefect: :D
[2008/10/09 12:18] Torley Linden: another benefit of that shadow-draft is it also has per-pixel lighting, which'll free us from that "6 local lights" limit
[2008/10/09 12:19] Charlotte Bartlett: Torley my question was when if how what do we do to get Windlight settings to server side - to stage our sims?
[2008/10/09 12:19] Torley Linden: shadows will most likely be an option because they do need a higher-end graphics card (like how water reflections are intensive).
[2008/10/09 12:19] Squirrel Wood: hardware t&l ?
[2008/10/09 12:19] Torley Linden: Charlotte, i keep hoping for that. haven't heard an ETA on when that might be out, but i definitely haven't forgotten.
[2008/10/09 12:19] Toy LaFollette runs dual 8800GT's now
[2008/10/09 12:19] Leaf Michalski: back
[2008/10/09 12:19] Fryke Bloch: Torley what do you use to record ur videos. I know its not wegame
[2008/10/09 12:19] Torley Linden: yeah dual 8800GTs will be plenty fine.
[2008/10/09 12:19] Charlotte Bartlett: Thanks :)
[2008/10/09 12:19] Torley Linden: Fryke, Camtasia Studio.
[2008/10/09 12:20] Fryke Bloch: is that free
[2008/10/09 12:20] Torley Linden: no, 30 day trial tho.
[2008/10/09 12:20] Torley Linden: more details in my movie making guide https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Movie_help :)
[2008/10/09 12:20] Multi Chair Crate v1.0.42 (TORLEY MOD) whispers: Maximum number of chairs reached, please rez another Multi Chair table.
[2008/10/09 12:20] Fryke Bloch: o ok
[2008/10/09 12:20] Fryke Bloch: ty
[2008/10/09 12:20] Master Pye: Wegame hurt my feelings :-(
[2008/10/09 12:20] Torley Linden: Naxos good gosh, that little missile-ship is keeping you afloat!
[2008/10/09 12:20] Toy LaFollette: I been looking at fraps, I think its under 40$ to own
[2008/10/09 12:20] Torley Linden: how, Master?
[2008/10/09 12:20] Holocluck Henly: 35 yeah
[2008/10/09 12:20] Holocluck Henly: its very easy but needs fullscreenmode
[2008/10/09 12:20] Master Pye: I sent you a cople of pix of what it was doing...
[2008/10/09 12:21] Holocluck Henly: i have to download wegame and try it
[2008/10/09 12:21] Jaymes Kjeller: I'm running a single 8600 GT, but I think a dual-card setup might be in my plans. As long as I replace my motherboard and PSU, of course.
[2008/10/09 12:21] Master Pye: I couldent save anything errors out the ying yang
[2008/10/09 12:21] Fryke Bloch: Torley since ur a linden do you get this land for free?
[2008/10/09 12:21] Torley Linden: oh i think i saw those -- best way to send images to me is email or if you upload to Flickr
[2008/10/09 12:21] Torley Linden: Fryke, yes, for work purposes.
[2008/10/09 12:21] Holocluck Henly: torley i'm sorry i lost the stupid pumpkin head. could you have the land return it?
[2008/10/09 12:21] Torley Linden: ;D
[2008/10/09 12:21] Fryke Bloch: cool
[2008/10/09 12:21] Torley Linden: okay Holocluck!
[2008/10/09 12:21] Toy LaFollette: ya have to have a compatiblew mobo
[2008/10/09 12:21] Holocluck Henly: ty much
[2008/10/09 12:22] Toy LaFollette: OMG! missing pumpkin !!!!!
[2008/10/09 12:22] Master Pye: I'll try it again, hope's not lost, fustration just got the better of me,
[2008/10/09 12:22] Torley Linden: no prob!
[2008/10/09 12:22] Master Pye: Loves vids :-)
[2008/10/09 12:22] Torley Linden: Master, i understand, and if it keeps being a pain in the ass, ask WeGame staff, they're pretty helpful
[2008/10/09 12:23] CeeJay Tigerpaw: I have a newish Mac Pro, but the graphics card is only an ATI Radeon HD2600. Notwithstanding, it handles "ultra" graphics settings with everything checked and a high draw distance pretty well.
[2008/10/09 12:23] Fryke Bloch: Torley does philip linden ever visit here
[2008/10/09 12:23] Master Pye: True, Valued time is spent laughing while watching, I'm tellin ya!
[2008/10/09 12:23] Torley Linden: Fryke, i've never seen Philip on Here.
[2008/10/09 12:23] Toy LaFollette: he used to
[2008/10/09 12:23] Fryke Bloch: ok
[2008/10/09 12:24] Toy LaFollette: used to have monthly open town halls but to many in SL now
[2008/10/09 12:24] Torley Linden: i remember sitting and waiting for those
[2008/10/09 12:24] Torley Linden: that's so old skool now!
[2008/10/09 12:24] Aimee Trescothick: that's here vs. Here lol
[2008/10/09 12:24] Fryke Bloch: Torley it would be a great feature to add a video chat in second life.
[2008/10/09 12:24] Toy LaFollette: hehehe I am old school!!!
[2008/10/09 12:24] Torley Linden: Fryke, like webcam?
[2008/10/09 12:24] Torley Linden: hahaha Aimee
[2008/10/09 12:24] Fryke Bloch: yes
[2008/10/09 12:24] Crash Prefect: some poeple do use SL like that
[2008/10/09 12:24] Torley Linden: yeah for anyone who doesn't know, Toy helped me in MY VERY FIRST DAYS in SL :D
[2008/10/09 12:24] Holocluck Henly: video chat? this is kinda more fun. i mean corporations do the video chat thing
[2008/10/09 12:25] Crash Prefect: you can stream to a server and have it go to a prim in world
[2008/10/09 12:25] Toy LaFollette: awe :)
[2008/10/09 12:25] Crash Prefect: via parcel media
[2008/10/09 12:25] Torley Linden: Toy i remember the time when i asked if it was possible to have rain and rainbows in SL and you did particle magic in Ahern WA :)
[2008/10/09 12:25] Squirrel Wood: bayk in ye olde days when teachers were still allowed to beat those little bastards.... everything was better. ^^
[2008/10/09 12:25] Holocluck Henly: yes i heard yesterday she pwns most of the staff :P
[2008/10/09 12:25] Toy LaFollette: yup :)
[2008/10/09 12:25] Torley Linden: Squirrel, no knuckle rappings here! the word "bastard" cracks me up, tho.
[2008/10/09 12:25] Holocluck Henly: i use bastich
[2008/10/09 12:26] Torley Linden: i've heard bastidge
[2008/10/09 12:26] Leaf Michalski: is it possible to make ur av transparent? i wanna make my av a ghost for halloween
[2008/10/09 12:26] Toy LaFollette: I use boogerhead instead hehe
[2008/10/09 12:26] Leaf Michalski: lol
[2008/10/09 12:26] Torley Linden: that almost sounds like "prestige"
[2008/10/09 12:26] Crash Prefect: so torley have you checked out the Scratch developers page?
[2008/10/09 12:26] Crash Prefect: i was very inspired by them
[2008/10/09 12:26] Holocluck Henly: well its all in the skin i think
[2008/10/09 12:26] Torley Linden: Crash, i haven't delved deep into that.
[2008/10/09 12:26] WeatherSystem 1.30 whispers: It wasn't possible to rez all emitters for the complete selected area.
[2008/10/09 12:26] WeatherSystem 1.30 whispers: If the weather is functioning, this only means several emitters weren't rezzed,
[2008/10/09 12:26] WeatherSystem 1.30 whispers: because they were outside of the parcel boundaries.
[2008/10/09 12:26] WeatherSystem 1.30 whispers: If there is no weather, please click help and check the FAQ to set the group permissions correctly.
[2008/10/09 12:26] Crash Prefect: a program to teach children how to program
[2008/10/09 12:26] Crash Prefect: it wasnt originally meant for SL
[2008/10/09 12:26] Squirrel Wood: you cannot make the avatar shape transparent. but you can use invisiprims to "hide" it
[2008/10/09 12:26] Holocluck Henly: make a semi transparent texture in paintshop pro and use that as skin
[2008/10/09 12:26] Crash Prefect: on their main page you can see projects made using it
[2008/10/09 12:26] Torley Linden: it's very exciting to think of scripting in simpler ways which are less intimidating
[2008/10/09 12:26] Crash Prefect: like small games and videos etc
[2008/10/09 12:26] Ash Meersand: Hey, Torley, would it one day be possible to download a sim's textures into your cache all at once pre-emptively so that you won't have to pause and wait every few seconds while walking?
[2008/10/09 12:27] Torley Linden: yeah and little creatures of sorts, those are neat, Crash
[2008/10/09 12:27] WeatherSystem 1.30 whispers: It wasn't possible to rez all emitters for the complete selected area.
[2008/10/09 12:27] WeatherSystem 1.30 whispers: If the weather is functioning, this only means several emitters weren't rezzed,

[2008/10/09 12:27] Holocluck Henly: whats the text spam about?
[2008/10/09 12:27] Aimee Trescothick: sorry that's my fault
[2008/10/09 12:27] Torley Linden: Ash, i think we've done experiments with that -- like for Orientation Island. so to some degree, it is possible, but isn't user-controllable.
[2008/10/09 12:27] Crash Prefect: creatures torley?
[2008/10/09 12:27] Torley Linden: Crash, i've seen little "pets".
[2008/10/09 12:27] Crash Prefect: oooh, like an example of what can be done
[2008/10/09 12:28] Crash Prefect: yeah the first thing i made was a giant working piano, with moving keys
[2008/10/09 12:28] Torley Linden: i like the Scratch mascot, that wild-eyed cat.
[2008/10/09 12:28] Crash Prefect: walk on the keys and the keys go down under your weight and play a sound
[2008/10/09 12:28] Torley Linden: ohhh sweet! do you have that piano out somewhere? i'd <3 to play it
[2008/10/09 12:28] Holocluck Henly: I've seen pets that wont shut up and you cant mute them without muting the avatar
[2008/10/09 12:28] Holocluck Henly: :P
[2008/10/09 12:28] Vivistar Benoir: are there still full rights objects that help you learn all this scripting stuff?
[2008/10/09 12:28] Holocluck Henly: oo crash that sounds nice
[2008/10/09 12:28] Crash Prefect: so i only have two notes but i was going to paint it up and shoot you a copy if you were interested
[2008/10/09 12:28] Torley Linden: Vivistar, yes, i've seen various ones
[2008/10/09 12:28] Torley Linden: cool Crash, i sure would be.
[2008/10/09 12:29] Crash Prefect: but yeah i made that and a working mario block
[2008/10/09 12:29] Leaf Michalski: i must go
[2008/10/09 12:29] Leaf Michalski: good seeing you torely
[2008/10/09 12:29] Crash Prefect: like jump up and hit it and it plays a sound, and changes color
[2008/10/09 12:29] Leaf Michalski: Torley*
[2008/10/09 12:29] Toy LaFollette: **Bye Bye**
[2008/10/09 12:29] Crash Prefect: and goes up/down
[2008/10/09 12:29] Fryke Bloch: Torley any major features being worked on right now?
[2008/10/09 12:29] Vivistar Benoir: Is NCI a good place for that?
[2008/10/09 12:29] Holocluck Henly: later leaf!
[2008/10/09 12:29] Leaf Michalski: later everyone
[2008/10/09 12:29] Vivistar Benoir: bye Leaf
[2008/10/09 12:29] Toy LaFollette: NCI Kuula has a lot of scripters
[2008/10/09 12:29] Crash Prefect: but yeah its an excellent program
[2008/10/09 12:29] Crash Prefect: i was very surprised it wasnt on the wiki
[2008/10/09 12:30] Torley Linden: take care Leaf!
[2008/10/09 12:30] Jaymes Kjeller: I know this might sound very off-topic, but I tried using a watermelon sky and water preset here. Then I've uploaded the end result onto Flickr.
[2008/10/09 12:30] Vivistar Benoir: Thanks toy
[2008/10/09 12:30] Leaf Michalski: you too :-)
[2008/10/09 12:30] Torley Linden: of course, Leaf. including ones i unfortunately can't talk about. :)
[2008/10/09 12:30] Holocluck Henly: :P again
[2008/10/09 12:30] Toy LaFollette: just hang out there and pick up stuff and ask questions
[2008/10/09 12:30] Torley Linden: i meant that in response to Fryke,
[2008/10/09 12:30] Torley Linden: sorry for any confusion :)
[2008/10/09 12:30] Fryke Bloch: o ok
[2008/10/09 12:30] Holocluck Henly: i went to a beginners class there it wasnt so bad
[2008/10/09 12:30] Fryke Bloch: lol
[2008/10/09 12:30] Torley Linden: Jaymes, ooh! it's totally on topic.
[2008/10/09 12:30] Vivistar Benoir: cool
[2008/10/09 12:30] Torley Linden: got a URL?
[2008/10/09 12:30] Holocluck Henly: i asked questions and they answered them well
[2008/10/09 12:31] Jaymes Kjeller: Yeah, I've shortened it. http://tinyurl.com/4of87b
[2008/10/09 12:31] Holocluck Henly: eep
[2008/10/09 12:31] Vivistar Benoir: very nice
[2008/10/09 12:31] Crash Prefect: ya know torley, i just want to say after watching your videos and checking out your sim and getting to meet you now. it makes me sad that ive known about you for years now and never once tried to approach you to even say hello.
[2008/10/09 12:32] Holocluck Henly: toy! put those paint chips out of your mouth!
[2008/10/09 12:32] Vivistar Benoir: Torley, are you up for SL speaking engagements?
[2008/10/09 12:32] Torley Linden: awwwe well i'm glad you have today, Crash!
[2008/10/09 12:32] Toy LaFollette: NCI's been helping in SL for over 3 years now and some of us beewn involved with it since the start
[2008/10/09 12:32] Torley Linden: =D
[2008/10/09 12:32] Torley Linden: :D
[2008/10/09 12:32] Crash Prefect: i usually just talk to BuB to be honest....
[2008/10/09 12:32] Torley Linden: Vivistar, yes, selectively. :)
[2008/10/09 12:32] Crash Prefect: is why i sent him the links first
[2008/10/09 12:32] Torley Linden: Bub is sooo hilarious.
[2008/10/09 12:32] Torley Linden: such a great sense of humor.
[2008/10/09 12:32] Crash Prefect: but i thought better and chose to send them to you too
[2008/10/09 12:32] Crash Prefect: he's the only one i really know IRL
[2008/10/09 12:33] Crash Prefect: so i usually harass him with stuff like that
[2008/10/09 12:33] Crash Prefect: lol
[2008/10/09 12:33] Torley Linden: lol
[2008/10/09 12:33] Crash Prefect: were you at the SLCC in 06 torley?
[2008/10/09 12:33] Torley Linden: no i wasn't
[2008/10/09 12:33] Crash Prefect: ok, that was the only one i went to
[2008/10/09 12:33] Torley Linden: Vivistar, re: speaking engagements and interviews and such, "Please email presscontact@secondlife.com with who you are and your list of questions. Thank-you" is my standard response
[2008/10/09 12:33] Crash Prefect: they asked me to come talk about game development at one of them but i coudlnt afford to go
[2008/10/09 12:34] Ash Meersand: If RC21 is the bug fix release candidate, what's coming up in RC22?
[2008/10/09 12:34] Vivistar Benoir: OK
[2008/10/09 12:34] Vivistar Benoir: :) thanks, will do
[2008/10/09 12:34] Holocluck Henly: maybe less screaming
[2008/10/09 12:34] Crash Prefect: lol
[2008/10/09 12:34] Holocluck Henly: that would be an improvement
[2008/10/09 12:34] Holocluck Henly: LOL
[2008/10/09 12:35] Master Pye: Found it,Torley..Wegane.exe encountered a problem and needs to close...yadayada, Then my AVG virus scan started a goasted run I could not stop, unless I manually started it then stoped it, It was odd for sure :-)
[2008/10/09 12:35] Holocluck Henly: that and my oldschool bitmaps savable
[2008/10/09 12:35] Torley Linden: Ash, i can't disclose that at this time. =)
[2008/10/09 12:35] Holocluck Henly: well add wegame to the allow list in avg
[2008/10/09 12:35] Master Pye: It's on my to do list, I made some pretty cool screensavers...
[2008/10/09 12:35] Ash Meersand: How can packet loss be at 276%?
[2008/10/09 12:35] Holocluck Henly: how long does it take for audrey to digest a victim btw?
[2008/10/09 12:36] Torley Linden: Ash, physically impossible.
[2008/10/09 12:36] Torley Linden: <.<
[2008/10/09 12:36] Torley Linden: false readout, heh.
[2008/10/09 12:36] Torley Linden: Holocluck, haven't subjected anyone to that torture... yet <.<
[2008/10/09 12:36] Torley Linden: "you will feel yourself digested..."
[2008/10/09 12:36] Holocluck Henly: well you're also losing your neighbor's packets and your cat's packets and...
[2008/10/09 12:36] Holocluck Henly: well it sounds like she's taking her time
[2008/10/09 12:36] Holocluck Henly: thats the screaming
[2008/10/09 12:36] Aimee Trescothick: you're losing each packet 2.76 times?
[2008/10/09 12:36] Holocluck Henly: over there someone is being eaten LOL
[2008/10/09 12:36] Torley Linden: multipliers in pinball = great multipliers in packet loss = not so great
[2008/10/09 12:37] Holocluck Henly: savor it audrey
[2008/10/09 12:37] Holocluck Henly: i'd get a plant like that but i want my neighbors to like me
[2008/10/09 12:37] Holocluck Henly: heeh
[2008/10/09 12:37] Aimee Trescothick thinks there's a big pile of little packets under every major router in the internet
[2008/10/09 12:38] Torley Linden: just a series of tubes after all, eh?
[2008/10/09 12:38] Torley Linden: ;)
[2008/10/09 12:38] Crash Prefect: lol
[2008/10/09 12:38] Aimee Trescothick: they just need to sweep out the bottom of each rack to find any lost inventory :D
[2008/10/09 12:38] Holocluck Henly: we'd have people call us when i worked for an ISP. check the traceroute - well theres a tornado in that area (when you look at the hub location in the midwest) and that may be intefering with traffic
[2008/10/09 12:38] Toy LaFollette: OMG! intertubes
[2008/10/09 12:38] Crash Prefect: ok so torley, do you have a set amount of tutorials you do per month or so?
[2008/10/09 12:39] Crash Prefect: or is it like, when something interesting comes up
[2008/10/09 12:39] Torley Linden: Crash, i used to. but it's quite organic, since tutorials aren't the only thing i do.
[2008/10/09 12:39] Torley Linden: i look for hotspots and trends...
[2008/10/09 12:39] Torley Linden: e.g., recently SLURLs have been quite the topic of interest,
[2008/10/09 12:39] Crash Prefect: ok
[2008/10/09 12:39] Jaymes Kjeller: Oh yeah, and strangely enough, some of my inworld photos ended up on a site called SpinXpress.
[2008/10/09 12:39] Squirrel Wood: rc22? that will be the one that requires you to make it through my moving maze every time you log in. in pitch black darkness. :p
[2008/10/09 12:39] Torley Linden: so i revamped http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Slurl and made/arranged tutorials for it
[2008/10/09 12:39] Torley Linden: Squirrel: twisty mazes, all alike.
[2008/10/09 12:39] Torley Linden: what the heck Jaymes, i wonder how that happened? not familiar with them yet.
[2008/10/09 12:40] Holocluck Henly: i found a lot of linden places on my own but maybe things like the ferry or the trolley or whats with these roads... you know when i first came here there was this socalled road race i thought what road? lol
[2008/10/09 12:40] Holocluck Henly: for tours on the video
[2008/10/09 12:40] Holocluck Henly: rediscovering places of interest
[2008/10/09 12:40] Squirrel Wood: you can view any texture ingame if you have its key. navigate to a specific url and you will see it.
[2008/10/09 12:40] Ash Meersand: I had a problem once where I made a undecagonal prism, but it only had three or four faces for textures. In the future, can I preview that before uploading?
[2008/10/09 12:41] Ash Meersand: A sculpted undecagonal prism, that is
[2008/10/09 12:41] Holocluck Henly: think using a preview server and checking it there
[2008/10/09 12:41] Holocluck Henly: its free to upload on them
[2008/10/09 12:41] Jaymes Kjeller: They seem to be a collaboration site, aggrigating all CC licensed works from sites like Flickr. I don't know if I should take it as a complement.
[2008/10/09 12:41] Ash Meersand: Oh, right. I haven't gotten around to logging into one of those
[2008/10/09 12:41] Torley Linden: yeah -- preview/beta grid is fine for testing stuff/uploading textures.
[2008/10/09 12:41] Crash Prefect: ok so torley your not doing videos as much lately you mean, more gathering interesting facts about secondlife?
[2008/10/09 12:42] Crash Prefect: are you aware of a group called "Not possible in real life" ?
[2008/10/09 12:42] Holocluck Henly: if it werent for torley -- well superchicken is playing one more week at my pool
[2008/10/09 12:42] Holocluck Henly: heh
[2008/10/09 12:42] Ash Meersand gave you Giant Bitten Corndog on a Stick.
[2008/10/09 12:42] Torley Linden: what a descriptive name for an item, Ash :)
[2008/10/09 12:43] Torley Linden: Crash, yes, Bettina recently interviewed me for her blog =)
[2008/10/09 12:43] Holocluck Henly: heya jazz
[2008/10/09 12:43] Ash Meersand: Thanks
[2008/10/09 12:43] Crash Prefect: ok cool
[2008/10/09 12:43] Jazz Rothberg: Hi
[2008/10/09 12:43] Crash Prefect: yeah it seems you are interested in the same things she is essentially.
[2008/10/09 12:43] Jaymes Kjeller: Hmm...I think SpinXpress is meaning well. I did find it suprising, though. :)
[2008/10/09 12:43] Crash Prefect: spotlighting interesting finds in SL
[2008/10/09 12:43] Torley Linden: i will be doing more videos in the future, but right now, i'm focusing on social media acquisition & outreach. that means, making it easier for people who don't yet know about SL to find out about it through existing Second Life-related communities on networks out there. Flickr is a good example.
[2008/10/09 12:44] Torley Linden: yes Crash, since working for LL i haven't had as much time to do that on a dedicated basis, so i'm glad she's prolific and sharing her finds.
[2008/10/09 12:44] Crash Prefect nods
[2008/10/09 12:44] Torley Linden: really prolific explorers are comparatively rare, it's hard to keep it up for months, let alone years.
[2008/10/09 12:44] Crash Prefect: well like...i found a sim the other day that is owned by "Atlus" a japanese video game company
[2008/10/09 12:44] Crash Prefect: and they send customers and such to the sim
[2008/10/09 12:44] Ash Meersand: If I don't have Art Rage or anything like that, how do I make a T-shirt in GIMP?
[2008/10/09 12:44] Crash Prefect: from outside of SL
[2008/10/09 12:44] Holocluck Henly: Torley there are many orientation places in SL. without the OLs for new people Ive found taking friends new to SL to them. Maybe you show one or two? like the asian castle one?
[2008/10/09 12:44] Crash Prefect: atlus created alot of Wii and nintendo DS games
[2008/10/09 12:45] Holocluck Henly: bringing friends in that may help if people bring them over for a session
[2008/10/09 12:45] Crash Prefect: i always felt that eventually a video game company could start using secondlife,
[2008/10/09 12:45] Jazz Rothberg: Bye Peoples
[2008/10/09 12:45] Torley Linden: that Atlus place cracks me up! <3 some of the funny things there...
[2008/10/09 12:45] Crash Prefect: and through that gamers could find secondlife, and aspiring game developers
[2008/10/09 12:45] Holocluck Henly: later jazz
[2008/10/09 12:45] Torley Linden: Ash, i don't use GIMP, but ArtRage has a free edition.
[2008/10/09 12:45] Torley Linden: Holocluck, what's the name of the Asian castle one?
[2008/10/09 12:45] Ash Meersand: All right, thanks
[2008/10/09 12:46] Holocluck Henly: let me see i have a landmark i think
[2008/10/09 12:46] Squirrel Wood: paint.net ?
[2008/10/09 12:46] Crash Prefect: ive been trying to recruit friends of mine from college who are interested in game development
[2008/10/09 12:46] Torley Linden: apparently awhile ago there was a region named Nintendo, i don't know what happened with it
[2008/10/09 12:46] Crash Prefect: but alot of them just get frustrated and leave...:(
[2008/10/09 12:46] Holocluck Henly: it mgiht be orientation castle let me see
[2008/10/09 12:46] Torley Linden: and i love seeing more sceny stuff in SL... video game/manga/anime/otaku are welcome!
[2008/10/09 12:46] Holocluck Henly: the corps who have stayed basically offer info and use the islands for staff meetings i found
[2008/10/09 12:46] Crash Prefect: well like ive been using darklife to help teach aspiring game artists about asset development for games
[2008/10/09 12:46] Ash Meersand: I try to avoid sims where framerate is under 3
[2008/10/09 12:47] Holocluck Henly: trying to get my company to use SL for telemeetings
[2008/10/09 12:47] Crash Prefect: even brought my laptop into school and used it to demonstrate the stuff i was talking about
[2008/10/09 12:47] Torley Linden: that is cool to know, Crash. are you also teaching about resource optimization for good performance? :D
[2008/10/09 12:47] Crash Prefect: i think secondlife is alot better than using unreal tournement or halflife mods
[2008/10/09 12:47] Ash Meersand: Oh, by the way, the Buttermere sim time dilation is at 25% now, so your avatar moves 4 times as slow if you teleport there
[2008/10/09 12:47] Crash Prefect: well yes, but alot of that is advanced class type stuff
[2008/10/09 12:47] Holocluck Henly: Torley it seems to be called: Orientation Stations - in the Ca, Dore
[2008/10/09 12:48] Crash Prefect: its hard to pin down a "standard" in sl
[2008/10/09 12:48] Torley Linden: Holocluck, ah. those are antiques. used long ago, not so much anymore.
[2008/10/09 12:48] Holocluck Henly: I renamed the file but thats in the descrption. i am sure it was the name
[2008/10/09 12:48] Ash Meersand: What's up with Buttermere? It's on the Mainland next to Linden Village
[2008/10/09 12:48] Holocluck Henly: Well thank goodness for them LOL
[2008/10/09 12:48] Crash Prefect: also like, i put in a database of interesting games i find in SL on our sim
[2008/10/09 12:48] Torley Linden: oh cool Crash! have a SLURL to that? i'd like to see :)
[2008/10/09 12:48] Crash Prefect: so that if people who are playing my game become bored, they can pick another game
[2008/10/09 12:48] Torley Linden: i've been wanting to play more games in SL just for the sheer fun of it
[2008/10/09 12:48] Toy LaFollette: I remember that before it became a orientation station omg3
[2008/10/09 12:48] Holocluck Henly: (the snerts dont go to that one. the OI Public is soo intimidating for new people)
[2008/10/09 12:49] Crash Prefect: sadly alot of game developers give up part way through development in sl...:(
[2008/10/09 12:49] Crash Prefect: i did find a really nice adventure game on a sim called "Loco pocos"
[2008/10/09 12:49] Crash Prefect: the avatars there are kinda....cartoony for my taste
[2008/10/09 12:49] Crash Prefect: but the adventure game was fun
[2008/10/09 12:49] Ash Meersand: In GION, you can pick up a giant art brush and walk around on a sheet painting Japanese kanji
[2008/10/09 12:49] Aimee Trescothick: Oh Loco Pocos is superb
[2008/10/09 12:49] Crash Prefect: and the environments were very very very well done
[2008/10/09 12:49] Holocluck Henly: woo ash
[2008/10/09 12:49] Crash Prefect: actually i felt the environments were a bit overdone compared to the avatars
[2008/10/09 12:49] Jaymes Kjeller: I'm beginning to think about putting up some photos playing a few of the games inworld.
[2008/10/09 12:49] Aimee Trescothick: Damien that does it is doing a Halloween one
[2008/10/09 12:50] Jaymes Kjeller: Mind you, there are loads! :)
[2008/10/09 12:50] Crash Prefect: ah right,..he already has
[2008/10/09 12:50] Aimee Trescothick: not sure if he has it open yet, trick or treat game
[2008/10/09 12:50] Crash Prefect: theres a halloween village
[2008/10/09 12:50] Crash Prefect: its opened
[2008/10/09 12:50] Crash Prefect: you can trick or treat
[2008/10/09 12:50] Aimee Trescothick: cool :)
[2008/10/09 12:50] Crash Prefect: very nice
[2008/10/09 12:50] Roman HUD v.III.V: Roman HUD Ready and Operational. For help, Click the HUD.
[2008/10/09 12:50] Torley Linden: Loco Pocos has really consistent design and is a refreshingly cohesive package.
[2008/10/09 12:50] Crash Prefect: im not going to purchase an avatar there....cus they arent my taste
[2008/10/09 12:50] Crash Prefect: lol
[2008/10/09 12:50] Torley Linden: that's pretty rare in Second Life, or anywhere.
[2008/10/09 12:50] Aimee Trescothick: yes, absolutely
[2008/10/09 12:51] Aimee Trescothick: it's all very well thought out
[2008/10/09 12:51] Torley Linden: i like how some of it reminds me of other platform games, and it's easy to get into it
[2008/10/09 12:51] Crash Prefect: i mean like...weve always just allowed darklife players to design their own stuff...inspire creativity ya know
[2008/10/09 12:51] Torley Linden: i love the sound of that, "Inspire creativity" :)
[2008/10/09 12:51] Holocluck Henly: :)
[2008/10/09 12:51] Crash Prefect: i got into it cus i love to se other peoples designs
[2008/10/09 12:52] Crash Prefect: is why i want to use it to teach other aspiring game artists
[2008/10/09 12:52] Ash Meersand: 7Days Magic Bakery seems to have accidentally let me purchase one of their items for free...do I have a responsibility to contact them asking if they meant to do that?
[2008/10/09 12:52] Crash Prefect: ash
[2008/10/09 12:52] Crash Prefect: im one of the developers for that sim
[2008/10/09 12:52] Crash Prefect: what are you asking about?
[2008/10/09 12:52] Ash Meersand: This little guy
[2008/10/09 12:52] Crash Prefect: oh!
[2008/10/09 12:52] Crash Prefect: yeah thats a problem
[2008/10/09 12:52] Holocluck Henly: that a corndog or are you just....
[2008/10/09 12:52] Torley Linden: <.<
[2008/10/09 12:52] Crash Prefect: actually on the phone about it now...thanks ash
[2008/10/09 12:52] Crash Prefect: actually i may have to run there real quick
[2008/10/09 12:52] Torley Linden: Crash, i didn't know you were involved with that, that's cool!
[2008/10/09 12:52] Crash Prefect: i'll brb
[2008/10/09 12:52] Torley Linden: kk!
[2008/10/09 12:52] Ash Meersand: So do I get to keep it?
[2008/10/09 12:52] Crash Prefect: yeah i did all the sculptures for it
[2008/10/09 12:52] Torley Linden: what opportune timing!
[2008/10/09 12:53] Torley Linden: OOOOH
[2008/10/09 12:53] Torley Linden: wicked
[2008/10/09 12:53] Crash Prefect: and the "infrastructure"
[2008/10/09 12:53] Torley Linden: they look great
[2008/10/09 12:53] Jaymes Kjeller: Also, another thing I've been wondering about is captuting footage using WeGame, processing it, and then uploading it to the site. I don't know how well it'll work.
[2008/10/09 12:53] Ash Meersand: The twins were at the orientation sim
[2008/10/09 12:53] Torley Linden: Jaymes, did you try it? it's very straightforward.
[2008/10/09 12:53] Torley Linden: omg Ash managed to grab one of the chefs from the bakery ;D
[2008/10/09 12:53] Torley Linden: that's hilarious
[2008/10/09 12:53] Aimee Trescothick: hmm, is it just me, or am I a mass of unrezzed sculpties?
[2008/10/09 12:53] Aimee Trescothick: lol
[2008/10/09 12:53] Holocluck Henly: heheh
[2008/10/09 12:54] Torley Linden: he'd better get back home t hough
[2008/10/09 12:54] Ash Meersand: I right clicked it and it said "buy"
[2008/10/09 12:54] Aimee Trescothick: ah, I'm arriving finally
[2008/10/09 12:54] Ash Meersand: It still hasn't rezzed for me
[2008/10/09 12:54] Torley Linden: speaking of buy, every store should use click actions... sad when they don't! makes it so much easier to purchase
[2008/10/09 12:54] Torley Linden: Aimee you look great to me
[2008/10/09 12:54] Jaymes Kjeller: I've captured inworld video, but haven't uploaded it yet. I'll try to get some good footage while exploring someplace. :)
[2008/10/09 12:54] Holocluck Henly: wow crash thats nice... you give lessons cheep on sculpting?
[2008/10/09 12:54] Torley Linden: ahh okay Jaymes. yeah, running little experiments and adjusting stuff as you go along works well for me
[2008/10/09 12:54] Aimee Trescothick: yeah, just taking time rezzing my end I think
[2008/10/09 12:54] Ash Meersand: The same thing happened to me while exploring the Lost Lakes Region
[2008/10/09 12:55] Ash Meersand: I ran off with someone's music player
[2008/10/09 12:55] Ash Meersand: No copy, too
[2008/10/09 12:55] Ash Meersand: I gave it back to him. 1920s Jazz club or something
[2008/10/09 12:55] Jaymes Kjeller: I agree with Torley, I really do like click actions, mainly because I can just simply click on a object, not having to right-click. :)
[2008/10/09 12:55] Holocluck Henly: wow nurbs. i havent read that in over a year
[2008/10/09 12:57] Squirrel Wood notes that she has her maze up and waiting for victims ^^
[2008/10/09 12:57] Torley Linden: =)
[2008/10/09 12:58] Holocluck Henly gave you Jack o Pumpkin head (att2skull).
[2008/10/09 12:58] Torley Linden: Crash, BTW, is your avatar inspired by Hellraiser?
[2008/10/09 12:58] Squirrel Wood gave you The Herdlands, Kalius (16, 16, 1500).
[2008/10/09 12:58] Holocluck Henly: I have an idea for a costume... i will be off on the 30th so if i succeed LOL i will flaunt it here
[2008/10/09 12:58] Torley Linden: oh sure, what's that idea?
[2008/10/09 12:58] Crash Prefect: lol, ive been asked that before,
[2008/10/09 12:58] Crash Prefect: actually when i joined secondlife
[2008/10/09 12:58] Crash Prefect: i did so after my last deployment
[2008/10/09 12:59] Holocluck Henly: it would be bad luck to say it... but you can guess it when you see it :)
[2008/10/09 12:59] Crash Prefect: i discovered secondlife while deployed with the military
[2008/10/09 12:59] Holocluck Henly: its an olllld anime character before anime was trendy
[2008/10/09 12:59] Torley Linden: oooh
[2008/10/09 12:59] Crash Prefect: out in my tent on satelite hookup....:D
[2008/10/09 12:59] Torley Linden: wow
[2008/10/09 12:59] Crash Prefect: yeah i was researching games
[2008/10/09 12:59] Holocluck Henly: i say no more
[2008/10/09 12:59] Crash Prefect: lol
[2008/10/09 12:59] Crash Prefect: but!
[2008/10/09 12:59] Crash Prefect: i didnt know it was secondlife
[2008/10/09 12:59] Crash Prefect: i actually found darklife first
[2008/10/09 12:59] Crash Prefect: through a games article
[2008/10/09 12:59] Crash Prefect: and when i got home i did some research and got into secondlife to go help out on darklife
[2008/10/09 13:00] Crash Prefect: ive spent the majority of my time since just working on darklife
[2008/10/09 13:00] Holocluck Henly: ooo lookit the juggling bunny!
[2008/10/09 13:00] Holocluck Henly: sorry
[2008/10/09 13:00] Crash Prefect: so about 4 years now
[2008/10/09 13:00] Holocluck Henly simulatedly coughs
[2008/10/09 13:00] Torley Linden: that's a great backstory.
[2008/10/09 13:00] Torley Linden: i love understanding how things come to be.
[2008/10/09 13:00] Crash Prefect: so yeah i didnt know what to look like
[2008/10/09 13:00] Jaymes Kjeller: Oh yeah, here's a strange story. I found a bench that displayed a tooltip. Curious to know what would happen, I sat on it. Turns out that it was a deformer, and wrecked my avatar shape. Luckily I had a deformer fix tool and fixed it. Seeing as it was put there by the area owner, I decided to let them off. Still, you do need to be careful about pratical jokes.
[2008/10/09 13:00] Crash Prefect: but i was building armor and weapons for darklife
[2008/10/09 13:00] Crash Prefect: so i wanted to be kindof a gothic blacksmith
[2008/10/09 13:01] Crash Prefect: i used to only wear chainmail etc
[2008/10/09 13:01] Holocluck Henly: it works well...
[2008/10/09 13:01] Crash Prefect: but than i started to branch out into commercial sim design
[2008/10/09 13:01] Crash Prefect: once i got into college
[2008/10/09 13:01] Crash Prefect: so i slowly started to customize my avatar
[2008/10/09 13:01] Crash Prefect: my associate on the darklife project however
[2008/10/09 13:01] Crash Prefect: both of them
[2008/10/09 13:01] Crash Prefect: Pirate Cotton and Mark busch
[2008/10/09 13:01] Jaymes Kjeller: Sorry if it was tangendal, but it's something I had to share.
[2008/10/09 13:01] Crash Prefect: both have been wearing the same avatars since 2003
[2008/10/09 13:01] Crash Prefect: they dont come into secondlife unless its for darklife
[2008/10/09 13:02] Crash Prefect: secondlife is darklife to them
[2008/10/09 13:02] Ash Meersand: I switch between avatars depending on where I go
[2008/10/09 13:02] Crash Prefect: as it is for alot of our players too i found out
[2008/10/09 13:02] Torley Linden: Jaymes: how did it deform you? avatar animation? or sending you up way high?
[2008/10/09 13:02] Torley Linden: Crash: wow!
[2008/10/09 13:02] Holocluck Henly: Jaymes doesnt dragging the folder over overwrite the deformed av?
[2008/10/09 13:02] Crash Prefect: some of our players were recruited by some of our other players straight to darklife
[2008/10/09 13:02] Crash Prefect: like they made them start an sl acount and come straight to darklife
[2008/10/09 13:02] Squirrel Wood: deformed avatars... there's "counter animations" for the deformations
[2008/10/09 13:02] Jaymes Kjeller: Torley, it was an avatar animation. So it was a "Stop animation, Repair Deformation" tool.
[2008/10/09 13:02] Crash Prefect: ive been really wanting to tailor a darklife sim to be an orientation island
[2008/10/09 13:03] Holocluck Henly: you should crash
[2008/10/09 13:03] Crash Prefect: make it a free version of the game for secondlife new arrivals
[2008/10/09 13:03] Torley Linden: relogging should fix those deforms, there shouldn't be a way to permanently deform an avatar
[2008/10/09 13:03] Holocluck Henly: dell does it why not you
[2008/10/09 13:03] Ash Meersand: Torley, do you plan on any skin making tutorials any time soon?
[2008/10/09 13:03] Crash Prefect: that teaches them about secondlife
[2008/10/09 13:03] Crash Prefect: i just dont have the assets or the time
[2008/10/09 13:03] Torley Linden: i'm glad to know Darklife is still going on, that's a long stretch :)
[2008/10/09 13:03] Torley Linden: Ash, no plans, but i'm open to doing it if someone else doesn't step in. problem with those is they may be better suited for mixed media or still pictures (of which i've seen some tutorials), since... high resolution is important.
[2008/10/09 13:04] Torley Linden: in the meantime i recommend looking at educational resources like Eloh Eliot's fantastic templates.
[2008/10/09 13:04] Crash Prefect: yeah I constantly use darklife as a way to practice what i learn, keep coming back to it and updating graphics and environments when i learn a new way of doing something
[2008/10/09 13:04] Crash Prefect: in a way the darklife sim is to me what "here" is to you
[2008/10/09 13:05] Torley Linden: i <3 iterating and applying knowledge from wherever i find it
[2008/10/09 13:05] Holocluck Henly: i still say make a travelog of linden places. Most ppl coming here only know you buy land and plop a shop down or something. they dont know it has its own character etc
[2008/10/09 13:05] Torley Linden: i seem to recall way back, when Pirate started the SL Games wiki too... it's been awhile!
[2008/10/09 13:05] Jaymes Kjeller: The deform was fixed by me rezzing the tool and touching it. So it runs the undeform animations and fixes it. :)
[2008/10/09 13:05] Crash Prefect: ah yeah the games wiki
[2008/10/09 13:05] Ash Meersand: Oh, hey, I recognize that kitty hanging from the balloon up there. I saw it in Avillion.
[2008/10/09 13:05] Crash Prefect: we made a "vendor" version of it
[2008/10/09 13:05] Torley Linden: Holocluck, sounds like a great idea for a wiki page to be updated with historical points of interest :)
[2008/10/09 13:05] Holocluck Henly: that a hint? :P
[2008/10/09 13:05] Torley Linden: yes, it is.
[2008/10/09 13:05] Torley Linden: ;D
[2008/10/09 13:05] Squirrel Wood: ^^
[2008/10/09 13:05] Holocluck Henly: hmmmmmmmmm
[2008/10/09 13:06] Crash Prefect: we have this vendor object that gives out free notecards/landmarks/pictures of known gaming sims
[2008/10/09 13:06] Squirrel Wood: come visit this historical place in a sim that does not exist anymore
[2008/10/09 13:06] Crash Prefect: pirate unfortunately hasnt logged into secondlife for a long while
[2008/10/09 13:06] Holocluck Henly: btw torley i have a question: where do you get the photo booths?
[2008/10/09 13:07] Djiezes Cassini: Hi Torley & gang
[2008/10/09 13:07] Holocluck Henly: heyas
[2008/10/09 13:07] Ash Meersand: I saw some prim eyes with a base and a prim part with an X on it, or they would glow green for an effect
[2008/10/09 13:07] Ash Meersand: How would I make one of those, if for instance I wanted to craft $ eyes?
[2008/10/09 13:08] Torley Linden: hiya Djiezes!
[2008/10/09 13:08] Torley Linden: i've seen some pretty neat prim eyes
[2008/10/09 13:08] Torley Linden: pretty much a matter of making them the right size and shape Ash, then attaching them to Right and Left Eye slots
[2008/10/09 13:08] Squirrel Wood: look at my eyes.
[2008/10/09 13:08] Torley Linden: you could also try asking the people who've already mad them
[2008/10/09 13:08] Squirrel Wood: they are made of prims. ^^
[2008/10/09 13:08] Holocluck Henly: yeah but how about blinkiing
[2008/10/09 13:08] Squirrel Wood: llSetPrimitiveParams ^^
[2008/10/09 13:09] Holocluck Henly: i'm still a scripting moron
[2008/10/09 13:09] Holocluck Henly: lol
[2008/10/09 13:09] Torley Linden: don't be so hard on yourself. :)
[2008/10/09 13:09] Holocluck Henly: theres got to be something mroe to it some of them the eyes travel too
[2008/10/09 13:09] Torley Linden: animated textures can create eye blink effects too, which i've seen on some superdeformed, anime-style heads
[2008/10/09 13:09] Aimee Trescothick: Scripting your own morons is quite hard
[2008/10/09 13:09] Holocluck Henly is but a pumpkin head
[2008/10/09 13:09] Torley Linden: HAHAH Aimee
[2008/10/09 13:10] Torley Linden: i'd actually ask people who made the eye effects you'd like
[2008/10/09 13:10] Torley Linden: after all, they would know best
[2008/10/09 13:10] Holocluck Henly: see aimee understands!
[2008/10/09 13:10] Aimee Trescothick: ;)
[2008/10/09 13:10] Holocluck Henly: well it's on the linden avs
[2008/10/09 13:10] Jaymes Kjeller has had another idea. Doing something with his Wiki user page.
[2008/10/09 13:10] Torley Linden: i <3 using wiki pages
[2008/10/09 13:10] Squirrel Wood: on my av the blinking is done through animating a single prim using different sculpt shapes
[2008/10/09 13:10] Holocluck Henly: tring to take pics of my 7seas fish i see my eyes traveling with the fish
[2008/10/09 13:10] Torley Linden: HELLO NOOB
[2008/10/09 13:10] Aimee Trescothick: :D
[2008/10/09 13:10] Torley Linden: 7seas has gotten quite popular, it seems!
[2008/10/09 13:10] Holocluck Henly: I have to do something with mine re wiki page
[2008/10/09 13:10] Aimee Trescothick: an unscripted moron?
[2008/10/09 13:10] Torley Linden: oh these n00bs crack me up, i stacked a bunch in a bonfire awhile ago
[2008/10/09 13:10] Holocluck Henly: they added goldfishies
[2008/10/09 13:11] Aimee Trescothick: he doesn't talk much :D
[2008/10/09 13:11] Torley Linden: i bet more people would pay to have a sculpted version of their avatar ;D
[2008/10/09 13:11] Torley Linden: and use it as a prop or something creative
[2008/10/09 13:11] Holocluck Henly: hehe
[2008/10/09 13:11] Jaymes Kjeller: I guess it could also be useful for modelling shirts and the like.
[2008/10/09 13:11] Holocluck Henly: not of MY avatar. Maybe some Iron man LMDs
[2008/10/09 13:12] Ash Meersand: I was just over in the NASA CoLab sim and noticed one of their transporters had an effect where my hat would be floating in mid-air for a few seconds after my avatar disappeared, like in a 1960s cartoon after Yogi Bear dashes off
[2008/10/09 13:12] Aimee Trescothick: yes, I'm surprised there aren't more shops using sculpted prim clothes models
[2008/10/09 13:12] Torley Linden: hahahaha
[2008/10/09 13:12] Torley Linden: i wonder if that's intentional, Ash
[2008/10/09 13:12] Ash Meersand: Incidental bug or very enjoyable feature
[2008/10/09 13:12] Torley Linden: i've seen shops use actual avatars as models
[2008/10/09 13:12] Torley Linden: i was in a very cool one the other day, Usagi Umi or something
[2008/10/09 13:12] Ash Meersand: I wouldn't have thought that to be possible
[2008/10/09 13:12] Holocluck Henly has a pic of him floating among bubbles in a cube on a nasa island
[2008/10/09 13:12] Torley Linden: i wonder how they run them, or restart them if the server crashes
[2008/10/09 13:13] Tux Winkler: perhaps they are campers?
[2008/10/09 13:13] Aimee Trescothick: they're usually using a bot client that will auto relog if they lose their connection
[2008/10/09 13:13] Holocluck Henly: http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r136/holodocdr/SL/bubble2.jpg
[2008/10/09 13:13] Torley Linden: Aimee, ah, good to know. i wonder if i could/should setup something like that on Here...
[2008/10/09 13:13] Holocluck Henly: weeee
[2008/10/09 13:13] Torley Linden: i want to put a dude in a cryogenic stasis field, like Ubik
[2008/10/09 13:13] Torley Linden: and have him babble utter nonsense
[2008/10/09 13:13] Aimee Trescothick: heheh
[2008/10/09 13:13] Jaymes Kjeller: Probably using them as bots. Just goes to show that there *ARE* legitimate uses for them, instead of using them as camping bots.
[2008/10/09 13:14] Torley Linden: i've seen some camping places that are like, "wear this attachment and sit down"
[2008/10/09 13:14] Aimee Trescothick: there are some pretty clever bots around now
[2008/10/09 13:14] Jaymes Kjeller: It only becomes a problem, I think, when huge numbers are used, and for the wrong reasons.
[2008/10/09 13:14] Holocluck Henly: i find it pointless.
[2008/10/09 13:14] Torley Linden: i don't think "wear clothes" would work since we don't have automated ways to detect if it's the right clothes. some store vendor might get griefed by a camper wearing a shirt that says "THIS STORE SUX!"
[2008/10/09 13:14] Torley Linden: what are some of the more clever uses, Aimee?
[2008/10/09 13:14] Torley Linden: Holocluck, lol, i like the 3D glasses too
[2008/10/09 13:14] Aimee Trescothick: DCS2 have some pretty good NPC bots
[2008/10/09 13:14] Holocluck Henly: to be here for the experience. unless you can genuinely clone yourself and tap into both brains
[2008/10/09 13:15] Holocluck Henly: thanks :) I always see in 3D here
[2008/10/09 13:15] Torley Linden: *makes a note to see DCS2*
[2008/10/09 13:15] Aimee Trescothick: saw them demonstrated at Orange island the other day
[2008/10/09 13:15] Holocluck Henly: so does Sevhen btw
[2008/10/09 13:15] Ash Meersand: There used to be a sim where there were rainbows and mushrooms and puffy prim clouds with a giant Kermit the Frog looking down on a hippie wonderland. Then the music was replaced by a voice urging you to take a survey and the camping spread to 100% of the land and it was ruined
[2008/10/09 13:15] Torley Linden: Aimee, what's DCS2 stand for?
[2008/10/09 13:15] Squirrel Wood: llIsItBlacklisted(key UUID) ?
[2008/10/09 13:15] Aimee Trescothick: it's one of the combat systems
[2008/10/09 13:15] Holocluck Henly: ash if it's any comfort my neighbor in anilis has a rainbow and mushrooms and michigan j frog dancing around
[2008/10/09 13:15] Torley Linden: ahh
[2008/10/09 13:16] Torley Linden: intriguing how many places it comes up in Search
[2008/10/09 13:16] Aimee Trescothick: I'm not particularly familiar with it myself, just saw the bot demo the other day
[2008/10/09 13:16] Jaymes Kjeller: Things like NPC bots, to me are fine, but lots of money camping bots, or traffic camping bots, are just pointless.
[2008/10/09 13:16] Torley Linden: yeah i think that's really wasteful for the most part, Jaymes...
[2008/10/09 13:16] Torley Linden: it's for empty ends, and no real humans are delighted
[2008/10/09 13:16] Aimee Trescothick: SL Shakespeare use them for a variety of stuff too
[2008/10/09 13:16] Torley Linden: instead of camping, more people should do http://mturk.com jobs or something
[2008/10/09 13:16] Holocluck Henly: well thats understandable
[2008/10/09 13:17] Torley Linden: would net them more $$, if that's what they're after
[2008/10/09 13:17] Torley Linden: lazy asses make themselves self-evident, tho
[2008/10/09 13:17] Squirrel Wood: camp here 24/7. You may eventually get some L$. But only if we find you being worthy ^^
[2008/10/09 13:17] Torley Linden: LOL
[2008/10/09 13:17] Torley Linden: a Wayne's World-ish camping chair
[2008/10/09 13:18] Holocluck Henly: hey convert that to US$ or whatever. was it worth it? NO
[2008/10/09 13:18] Torley Linden: "we're not worthy!"
[2008/10/09 13:18] Torley Linden: i haven't seen camping chairs shaped like toilets yet,
[2008/10/09 13:18] Squirrel Wood: answer me this: Name one of Torleys favorite colors!
[2008/10/09 13:18] Torley Linden: although that does seem like it'd be rather humiliating
[2008/10/09 13:18] Holocluck Henly: heeh thats a good idea
[2008/10/09 13:18] Torley Linden: Aimee that's a cute tank
[2008/10/09 13:18] Tux Winkler: I have
[2008/10/09 13:18] Torley Linden: reminds me of Metal Slug
[2008/10/09 13:18] Ash Meersand: Yellow?
[2008/10/09 13:18] Torley Linden: where was it, Tux?
[2008/10/09 13:18] Aimee Trescothick: :D it's one of the Loco Pocos toys
[2008/10/09 13:18] Tux Winkler: with number 2's and with vomit scripts ^^
[2008/10/09 13:18] Torley Linden: "yellow" is like an ancillary color which i use as highlights sometimes ;D
[2008/10/09 13:18] Torley Linden: hahaha
[2008/10/09 13:18] Torley Linden: nice
[2008/10/09 13:18] Holocluck Henly: well i think they should pay their dues torley thats a good idea. it isnt exaactly a dignified pasttime
[2008/10/09 13:19] Tux Winkler: hmm cannot remember, one of the script places
[2008/10/09 13:19] Tux Winkler: sorry
[2008/10/09 13:19] Aimee Trescothick: I have pretty much their entire stock, since winning the Locos Pocos flickr competition :D
[2008/10/09 13:19] Torley Linden: "you will earn L$10 an hour, but your avatar will be photographed in horribly humiliating positions!"
[2008/10/09 13:19] Squirrel Wood: What is the name of the prim in sim Here at coordinates 60,51,47 ?
[2008/10/09 13:19] Torley Linden: oh wow you won? congrats
[2008/10/09 13:19] Jaymes Kjeller: HITs? I see...
[2008/10/09 13:19] Aimee Trescothick: thanks :D
[2008/10/09 13:19] Torley Linden: hahaha Squirrel
[2008/10/09 13:19] Torley Linden: maybe i will try some bizarre parody of camping here. it will be bitter satire.
[2008/10/09 13:19] Squirrel Wood: hint: it is NOT object. :p
[2008/10/09 13:19] Torley Linden: emphasis on "BITTER"
[2008/10/09 13:19] Torley Linden: ;)
