WindLight/Office Hours/2008-01-17
Torley Linden: Friendly greetings everyone!
Lavi LaSalle: hey Torley
Ryder Dryke: hiya torley!
Torley Linden: Sorry I'm a bit late... crashed and had to relog!
FlashFX Tomorrow: hey torley!
Torley Linden: Heya Lavi, Ryder, FlashFX!
Torley Linden: Everything's rezzing in for me now...
FlashFX Tomorrow: any resolution on the login issues? sorry to slam you with the first question, lol
Torley Linden: Hmmm where are my WindLight Teammates...
Torley Linden: FlashFX, more details please? I haven't really been inworld until now today!
FlashFX Tomorrow: when i log into windlight it tells me incorrect useer name or password
FlashFX Tomorrow: but in regualr version of sl everything is fine
Lavi LaSalle: same here
Torley Linden: Hmmm that's very odd. Did you try logging in with the Release Candidate too?
Posh Slade gave you Petition to double the group limits.
FlashFX Tomorrow: yes, same issue
Lavi LaSalle: I downloaded the latest version of the viewer and it wont let me in
Ryder Dryke: i think the actual WL viewer uses still the NEW login which has now been ... cancled
Torley Linden: I have a feeling the problem applies to that because of the web-based login screen, and it's not specifically WL.
Torley Linden: Hey Pastrammmmi!
Ryder Dryke: hi pastrami
Pastrami Linden: hello all
Lavi LaSalle: so how do we get to use windlight when we cant get in ?
Torley Linden: Pastrami, have you heard of login issues with the web-auth login screen today?
Lavi LaSalle: not just today
Lavi LaSalle: all week
FlashFX Tomorrow: btw, ive tried adding a log in -login username last name and password key in and still nothing
Pastrami Linden: Torley, nothing beyond the usual massive problems with it
Pastrami Linden: :)
Torley Linden: Oh yeah, those previous issues... basically, we're going to revert it.
Lavi LaSalle: lmao
Torley Linden: There's a lot of info on the Issue Tracker, one sec...
Pastrami Linden: since it's a dead horse, I'm not even concerned about it anymore
Torley Linden: and welcome to our WindLight Office Hour! Please IM your questions to Pastrami for answerage.
Pastrami Linden: it's going the way of the Dodo
FlashFX Tomorrow: ive tried all the fixes and nothing so far
Torley Linden: Details in https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3832
Mastorian Kingsford: i can tell you wind light hates the ati 1200-1250 series video cards
Torley Linden: Mastorian, if you could please be more detailed and IM your question to Pastrami, that'd help. =)
Ryder Dryke: torley, i came here because of the particle problem i told you on your last office hour
Torley Linden: Can you please refresh my memory on that, Ryder? Was that the particle emitters look weaker in WL?
Torley Linden: Like, not as many particles?
Ryder Dryke: yes
Ryder Dryke: i rez the object again
Torley Linden: OK... that one and some others I have to corral, I haven't had a chance to check it out myself because I've been swamped, but I'm hoping to soon.
Mastorian Kingsford: look at pic
Lavi LaSalle: was our question answered Flash?
Torley Linden: I remember that image, thanks.
FlashFX Tomorrow: not sure hun, reading now
Ryder Dryke: and thats the effect actually
Lavi LaSalle: I thought I had missed something *lol*
Ryder Dryke: if you use WL it should look like crap
Mastorian Kingsford: thats what i see always one direction and above me
Torley Linden: Hmmm I'm glad you rezzed it, Ryder, because it does look solid to me like the non-WL picture you have...
Pastrami Linden: looks fine to me
Torley Linden: It seems a little less dense...
Torley Linden: I'd like to check it out later when I have more time.
Mastorian Kingsford: that whit box blocks one direction always
Ryder Dryke: hm the WL picture was taken with 8000 particles
Torley Linden: Thanks for reminding me.
Ryder Dryke: yw
Ryder Dryke: it seems only to happen if there are really high amounts of particles
Ryder Dryke: maybe there are too less here around
Torley Linden: Please IM your questions to Pastrami... :)
Ryder Dryke: sorry :)
Pastrami Linden: [13:10] FlashFX Tomorrow: so basically nothing at this point correct? or until a newer version of WL is released? On the login issues that is
Pastrami Linden: correct FlashFX
Pastrami Linden: [13:10] Ryder Dryke: so pastrami - i'll ask Torley Linden: can you try to find that particle problem?
Pastrami Linden: Ryder, I didn't see the problem on my end
FlashFX Tomorrow: ok, well ...... thanks ya'll. Have a great day
Pastrami Linden: can you be specific- and Torley, have you seen that?
Pastrami Linden: jirad?
Ryder Dryke: hm yes it may happen only in high particle areas
Torley Linden: Hey Jeremy!
Jeremy Linden: Hey Torley. Sorry I'm late!
Torley Linden: Yes I believe it was already in the Issue Tracker, https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3241
Torley Linden: No worries Jeremy!
Torley Linden: Hey Brad!
Brad Linden: hey, sorry I'm late all
Torley Linden: Ryder, I'll update that issue when I have findings... please add your screenshot and details to it.
Torley Linden: None of the original people reporting it have replied. :\
Ryder Dryke: ok i try to add that image
Torley Linden: Great, thank-you. :)
Pastrami Linden: [13:13] FlashFX Tomorrow: Do we know when the next wl viewer will be released to fix the login issues?
Pastrami Linden: Ideally by end of next week-
Pastrami Linden: we're doing a robust smoke test right now
Torley Linden: BigPapi, yo!
FlashFX Tomorrow: thank you!
Pastrami Linden: because of some major fixes
Torley Linden: Yeah it'll be good when you can use WL nicely again... those login screen issues have made me sad too.
BigPapi Linden: Yo yourself Torley. :)
Torley Linden: Haha.
FlashFX Tomorrow: you guys have a great day! thanks for the help!
Portal AV Weighted Companion Cube (High Res): Couldn't find animation suitecase
Torley Linden: Thanks for coming FlashFX and you're welcome. =)
Torley Linden: Whoa nik385 is that title literal? <.< ;)
Pastrami Linden: [13:14] Ryder Dryke: will there be a particle_mask that gives the ability to let particles glow?
Pastrami Linden: BigPapi?
nik385 Doesburg: Haha, Torley I'm the stalker of all Lindens. :P
Ollj Oh: i heard particle once have had blow. but it was to processing intensive for the used engine
BigPapi Linden: Ryder: possibly at some point. Bigger fish to fry right now though...
Torley Linden: Particle Glow parameter is @ https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3110 so add your thoughts there.
Ollj Oh: glow also
Torley Linden: There are a number of desired changes for glow (making it scriptable basically too) and we hope to have a look at them in later successive passes.
nik385 Doesburg: Question on Nimble 3d volumetric clouds, any idea on a release date for that?
Leif Serevi shouts: sorry velve
Pastrami Linden: [13:16] Drew Dzieciol: Hi, I was wondering if you could roughly estimate how long it will be until Windlight is server-side so that residents can trade sky presets as inventory?
nik385 Doesburg: /mg suspend
Pastrami Linden: Torley, care to point Drew to the FAQ
Torley Linden: Yes, please see http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Windlight for more release details.
Torley Linden: We'll keep updating that as we get nearer!
Keisha Ninetails: who is handling the questions?
Torley Linden: Keisha, Pastrami is!
You shout: Please IM Pastrami Linden with your questions!
Torley Linden: Oh my gosh, flying Speed Racer-esque car. @_@ *gazes into the distance*
Pastrami Linden: [13:14] Amy Faddoul: Any guess on why windlight in Linux makes the Windows version seem like a grey go attack?
Pastrami Linden: Amy what do you mean?
nik385 Doesburg: Speed-racer was an awesome TV show.
Torley Linden: Amy, can you be more clear? Is that the black cubes in the sky bug?
Torley Linden: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3166
Amy Faddoul: I run both. My windows version regularly slows to a crawl, bog, has framerate issues and almost seems like..Ick. But linux is silk.
Willy Baroque: Doesburg, cool, thats a town around the corner here ;p
nik385 Doesburg: Heh, yeah I've seen the reigon Doesburg.
Amy Faddoul: Is it Windows Classic bloat in the os doing it?
Ollj Oh: it saz 28 bars of gold but its 24 prims
nik385 Doesburg: A lot of live-help questions were asked from that reigon, back in the days of the in-game linden-chat live help.
Mastorian Kingsford: i should try moving sl to my linux hmm
Willy Baroque: heh
Pastrami Linden: Amy what's your hardware?
Drew Dzieciol: ya, im not done with it, but i just like how the light glow makes the gold look
Amy Faddoul: PU: AMD (Unknown model) (2899 MHz) Memory: 2048 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Build 2600) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce 7800 GS/AGP/SSE2/3DNOW! OpenGL Version: 2.1.2
Pastrami Linden: Amy that is odd
Ollj Oh: yu relaize that gold actually does not glow. at least try a radioactive element
Pastrami Linden: we may have an issue with 7800 GS
Torley Linden: I remember there was this odd bug...
Pastrami Linden: like a stick bug?
Torley Linden: Problem between Starting Second Life and NVIDIA GeForce 7600GS, 7800GS - https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2680
Pastrami Linden: or a potato bug?
Pastrami Linden: those are weird
Torley Linden: Hahaha.
Torley Linden: Those are FREAKIN' WEIRD.
Pastrami Linden: yes, good call Torley
Amy Faddoul: I'll look it up.
Pastrami Linden: potato bugs' heads look like new born babies to me for some reason
Pastrami Linden: those things are nasty
Ollj Oh: is it a known bug that the MAP WINDOW just will not show in the windlight client?
Pastrami Linden: made further so by the fact that cats love crunching on them
You shout: Ollj and everyone, please IM your questions to Pastrami Linden for answerage. :)
Mastorian Kingsford: i sent him a note card telling my problems
Pastrami Linden: [13:18] Ryder Dryke: with WL all primwater looks very dull now ... is there a chance to have nice buildable water as well with WL ?
Pastrami Linden: I think that will come with materials
Pastrami Linden: i.e. a better materials problem
Pastrami Linden: system, sorry
Torley Linden: Also, I've seen some sculptie prim water which was animated and not-too-shabby.
Pastrami Linden: we have enough materials problems :)
nik385 Doesburg: Nexii made animated sculptiewater
Ryder Dryke: well reflextions are soooo cool in WL
Pastrami Linden: thx
Pastrami Linden: :)
Torley Linden: Yeah, reflections are badass!
nik385 Doesburg: I've created a little comparison between the clients and uploaded it here. http://flickr.com/photos/nik385/2129709151/
Torley Linden: Oooh natural phenomena, I can see myself in the water!
Pastrami Linden: [13:20] Keisha Ninetails: what's the status on http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1560
Pastrami Linden: Keisha, fixed
Pastrami Linden: pending a forthcoming release
Keisha Ninetails: fixed how, fixed setting or adjustable in debug settings?
Torley Linden: Keisha, notice how the status is "Fix Pending"...
Torley Linden: that's how you know a fix is on the way.
Pastrami Linden: fixed it so that it should cull like before
BigPapi Linden: nik385: what graphics settings where you using.
BigPapi Linden: A framerate comparison between release and WL means nothing *unless* you had the WL client set to "low"
Pastrami Linden: correct
nik385 Doesburg: I did @_@
nik385 Doesburg: It was also on the same PC running the cleints at the same time, that may have had something to do with it.
nik385 Doesburg: Dualscreen.
Pastrami Linden: that is possible
Pastrami Linden: try it one at a time
Pastrami Linden: at Low
nik385 Doesburg: I had it set at low, BigPapi.
Pastrami Linden: I'd be curious to see the results
Pastrami Linden: what HW, btw?
Torley Linden: If you run both viewers at the same time they'll compete for resources.
BigPapi Linden: I would definitely confirm the settings issue. Otherwise, it sounds like you have either buggy drivers or a problematic hw platform so definitely post a bug with your hw specifications (graphics card, driver, cpu, memory, etc)
BigPapi Linden: WL on low *should* be faster than the release client all other things being equal.
nik385 Doesburg: I was on a laptop, I believe it was a dualcore 3.5g CPU, an ATI radeon 9900 video card (512 mem) and 2 gig ram.
Mastorian Kingsford: :-)
Ollj Oh: i will NOT play the jigglypuff song now
Torley Linden: Hahaha Pastrami and Ollj look like schoolyard chums!
Mastorian Kingsford: lol
Pastrami Linden: :)
BigPapi Linden: you sure that was a radion 9900? Either way, laptop graphics drivers tend to be crappy unfortunately.
BigPapi Linden: But definitely file a bug report onthe PJIRA with your info so we can look into it.
nik385 Doesburg: Yeah it crashes on Gmod when I rez combine elites lol.
nik385 Doesburg: But yeah, the card isn't the problem it's the driver.
nik385 Doesburg: It is a 9900 though.
Pastrami Linden: [13:22] Mai Yip: when can we change out underwear in first look?
nik385 Doesburg: I'm looking at it right now.
Liney Westland: *lol
Willy Baroque: lol
Shania Barzane: X)
Mai Yip smirks
Pastrami Linden: this related to missing clothing bug?
Mai Yip: no,
nik385 Doesburg: That bu is disturbing.
nik385 Doesburg: bug*
Liney Westland: it is!
Mai Yip: when i right click to take of an item the underware option isnt there
nik385 Doesburg: Although I've had it for year on my nonwindlight client.
Pastrami Linden: hmm
nik385 Doesburg: Mai, maybe you've toggled PG?
Pastrami Linden: Torley you know anything about this?
Mai Yip: togled pg?
Torley Linden: It sounds vaguely familiar...
Torley Linden: AH YES wait, I have heard of this from RC!
Torley Linden: I don't think it's WL-specific...
Torley Linden: it's on my list of bugs to confirm repros for and then import for further triage as necessary.
Liney Westland: Right click on your av -> take off -> not possible top take off underwear
Liney Westland: :P
Pastrami Linden: [13:28] Willy Baroque: is or will it be possible to give a private region/estate your own default environment settings?
Mai Yip: i run both viewes only a prob in wl
Pastrami Linden: yes WIlly
Pastrami Linden: Torley, link?
Pastrami Linden: :)
Torley Linden: Mai: I'll take a closer look at that...
Torley Linden: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Windlight
Torley Linden: ^ Mo' details there!
Willy Baroque: ok ty :>
nik385 Doesburg: Easy fix for inablility to remove undies, client > character > character tests > Toggle PG
Torley Linden: Willy, that's one of our most popualr questions. :D
Willy Baroque: hehe
Torley Linden: Thanks nik385... unless substantiated tho, I suspect this is something somewhat different.
Pastrami Linden: [13:28] Willy Baroque: is or will it be possible to give a private region/estate your own default environment settings?
Mai Yip: (thats not on)
Torley Linden: Like, some people complained that in Appearance, some "Take Off" buttons were always grayed out...
Pastrami Linden: woops
Pastrami Linden: sorry
nik385 Doesburg: Odd
Pastrami Linden: dupe
Shania Barzane: will try that nic noticed that on occasion too no underwear in the pie menu :Pwhen i'm wearing undies anyway
Pastrami Linden: [13:30] Liney Westland: When can we change underwear in first look? :P And I do sometimes see AVs invisible (because of package loss or y? - normally after a tp) *lol
Liney Westland: first part was answered
Pastrami Linden: yep
Brad Linden: is that at high altitude?
Pastrami Linden: Liney, invisible at high altitiudes?
Liney Westland: uhmm yes maybe
Mai Yip: any altitude, mostly high
Liney Westland: true
Pastrami Linden: known issue, recently solved!
Liney Westland: mostly high
Liney Westland: ok.
Torley Linden: :)
Liney Westland: :D
Pastrami Linden: [13:37] Keisha Ninetails: is there any chance of getting the preferences button back on the login screen so we don't have to log in to change certain preferences like graphics settings?
Torley Linden: Always a good idea to check our list of known issues and fixed ones!
Torley Linden: Links to those are on that WindLight wiki page too.
Pastrami Linden: Keisha, I belive that's coming back once we roll back the login process to the old school method
Torley Linden: Stuff we fixed... yeah there's a lot of it... http://jira.secondlife.com/secure/IssueNavigator.jspa?mode=hide&requestId=10352 :)
nik385 Doesburg: The preferences can be changed in the WL login screen, actually
Willy Baroque: (yay for old login)
Mai Yip: how?
nik385 Doesburg: There's a button up top that says "Edit" before you log in.
nik385 Doesburg: Click that and choose "preferences"
Mai Yip: isnt
Pastrami Linden: oh right
Pastrami Linden: thanks Torley
nik385 Doesburg adds a -multiple to his client tag and then opens it to check
Torley Linden: That multiple parameter, I'm fond of it!
nik385 Doesburg: Same, I once had five accounts on at the same time :D
Pastrami Linden: queue is clear
Pastrami Linden: IM away
Ryder Dryke has to log off now ...
Ryder Dryke: see you all ... greetings from germany!
Torley Linden: Have a nice day Ryder!
Pastrami Linden: auf veidesen
Pastrami Linden: or however you spell it
Pastrami Linden: :)
Willy Baroque: wiedersehen
Ryder Dryke: auf wiedersehen :)
Pastrami Linden: yeah that too
Ryder Dryke: ciao
Willy Baroque: hehe
Mastorian Kingsford: ?
You shout: Any more questions? Hear ye, hear ye... IM them to Pastrami Linden for tha answers!
Mastorian Kingsford: does he read note cards being pink he may npt haha
Pastrami Linden: Mastorian, I'm reading that now
Mastorian Kingsford: lol
Torley Linden: There's no need to discriminate against the pink people! Haha... kidding... ;)
Mastorian Kingsford: lmao
Liney Westland: I like pink :P
Pastrami Linden: Mastorian, it's a little hard to parse
Pastrami Linden: care to describe the problems simply?
Pastrami Linden: in the mean time,
Pastrami Linden: [13:44] Keisha Ninetails: status of http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3172
Mastorian Kingsford: seems every second patch for windlight those white boxs return one always to the east and one above they tend to strobe brightness in cycles
Pastrami Linden: ahh okay
nik385 Doesburg prods Pastrami
Mastorian Kingsford: i have a pic
Pastrami Linden: Torley, you seen this on PJIRA?
Torley Linden: Yes I sure have, imported and...
Torley Linden: internally assigned to Runitai.
Pastrami Linden: got it
Pastrami Linden: Normal or Major?
Torley Linden: Normal.
Mastorian Kingsford: that been happing since two weeks before christmas and every 2nd patch
Pastrami Linden: alright Mastorian-
Torley Linden: There's also a bug with some land editing tools being visible I think... that's on my list of things to repro and confirm...
Pastrami Linden: it's in our system
Pastrami Linden: we'll get to it!
Mastorian Kingsford: the box gets bright thn dim in cyycles
Pastrami Linden: [13:44] Keisha Ninetails: status of http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3172
Pastrami Linden: Mastorian, just make sure to comment the behavior well in the jira
Mastorian Kingsford: sorry for typos eating a ham and swiss sandwhich and pinky typing isnt my major haha
Mastorian Kingsford: ok
Pastrami Linden: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3172
Pastrami Linden: Torley, you know the internal link for this?
Torley Linden: Yes, DEV-7132
Torley Linden: It's listed on the PJIRA too... *checks*
Mastorian Kingsford: my first wl meeting been trying to get to them thanks to snow i made one haha
Torley Linden: I hope that's an easy fix.
Cubey's Jetpack v3.0.1b 2 whispers: Visit Abbotts Aerodrome for fast 'n' shiny stuff. Abbotts (100,100).
Cubey's Jetpack v3.0.1b 2 whispers: To set the speed, type 'speed,x' in chat where x is the speed.
Leif Serevi: speed,9
Pastrami Linden: Keisha, bumped up that jira to Major
Pastrami Linden gave you Mario Kirby and Luigi Jigglypuff (linden).
Torley Linden: Nice picture Pastrami, I moved the priority up on the public Issue Tracker to match.
Pastrami Linden: [13:44] nik385 Doesburg: Nimble 3d full volumetric clouds, any idea on a release date?
Keisha Ninetails: if it's going to bump other more important fixes leave it where it is because, if you just turn off water rendering they show up
Pastrami Linden: Torley, Ollj gave me that :)
Torley Linden: Haha.
Pastrami Linden: nik385, perhaps in 08
Pastrami Linden: but possibly not- it's a ways of
Pastrami Linden: off
Ollj Oh: its raining people again
nik385 Doesburg: Daaaaang.....
Torley Linden: There gotta be a theme song for times like this.
Mai Yip stares at the noobs
blogHUD Messenger: Your image post has arrived at blogHUD.com []: see http://bloghud.com/id/17694
Pastrami Linden: [13:44] JennyH GossipGirl: hi! grat to see you! i'd like to check on the status of Apple re the MacBook Pros with the nvidia graphics (8600m). last i saw on the blog LL and Apple had been working on it for 2 weeks. as you know, windlight is completely unusable for me (instant crash if i turn it on). i'm on a mbp, 4gb memory, 17" HD display, nvidia card. thank yO!!!
nik385 Doesburg: yeah there's a song called "Second Life"
Pastrami Linden: JennyH, we jst sovled that
Pastrami Linden: huge solve
JennyH GossipGirl: yay!
Pastrami Linden: we're smoke testing it right now
Torley Linden: YUGE! Like Donald Trump epic!
Pastrami Linden: yeah, it clears it up for *many* users
JennyH GossipGirl: can i try it now?
Pastrami Linden: not yet ;)
Torley Linden: That is a very good example of one of the bigger bugs we were focusing on.
Pastrami Linden: comign soon
Ollj Oh: gah i must change the pc
Pastrami Linden: [13:45] Tweak Hax: is the bump push menu working? i jsut got kicked here from waterhead and nothing showd up in my bump push menu
Pastrami Linden: Torley?
JennyH GossipGirl: how soon? i'm moments away from replacing my MBP with a MP... :-) /me claps and jumps for joy! :-D
Willy Baroque: places like waterhead should get permanent surveilance ;p
Mastorian Kingsford: lol volumetric clouds/ fog alyas cause me problems with lighting since they was using the waterfok layer mask in my world but made great nite skys while watching thera video stream screen :-)
Torley Linden: Tweak, hmmm... not sure of the current status of that.
Torley Linden: James was the one who last changed that months and months ago.
Torley Linden: Tweak, I'd suggest coming up with a solid repro for that...
Torley Linden: get a friend to shoot you with a scripted (llPushObject) weapon.
Pastrami Linden: Jenny, next week probably
JennyH GossipGirl: happy happy joy joy! ty! :-D
Keisha Ninetails: must, restrain....
Torley Linden: Also, I think there are some ways of making someone look like they were "pushed" that don't show up in that "Bump, Pushes, & Hits" window.
Pastrami Linden: [13:45] Shania Barzane: no ?? here since intel graphics are not supported but for the record I did enjoy the darker fiery sunset of the prior release better- but can't win them all ;)
Pastrami Linden: Shania, believe me, I'm with you on that sentiment
Mai Yip: u can adjust ir all cant u?
Pastrami Linden: it's why we need to get the estate setability into people's hands
Shania Barzane: :))
Pastrami Linden: well, my queue is all empty
Shania Barzane: cannot adust any settings due to disabled shaders but the sunset setting of the prior release was more dramatic it seems
Pastrami Linden: so unless anyone has any last minute questions!
Pastrami Linden: ...
Pastrami Linden: 5
Pastrami Linden: 4
Pastrami Linden: 7
Pastrami Linden: green
Mastorian Kingsford: lol
Pastrami Linden: potato
