The volunteer information on this page is now out of date and will be kept for historical purposes. Please do not update information on this page.

Mentor Scribes are well-versed, seasoned volunteers within the group who are willing to be contacted directly by other volunteers for assistance in writing, wiki development, and wiki collaboration. This is entirely an opt-in role and may bear extra responsibility, but for many of you who are already wiki gurus, this role will grant you acknowledgment for your contributions.

Purpose of Mentor Scribes

  • To provide advice to newcomers on how to create their SL Wiki profile and how to use wiki templates.
  • To assist in reorganization of the wiki for added functionality or ease of use.
  • To provide feedback on or to develop ways for creative collaboration using the wiki.
  • To assist in promoting and preserving the culture of the volunteer program using text.

How New Volunteers May Find a Mentor Scribe

At the top task bar within Second Life, choose Edit > Groups. Highlight the Second Life Mentors group, and click the Info button on the right hand side. Choose the Members & Roles tab next to the General tab along the top of the window. A list of Mentors Online can be filtered through the Members tab, and a list of Mentor Scribes can be found in the Roles tab.

In short: Edit>Groups>Second Life Mentor>Info>Members & Roles>Members/Roles

We will consider suggestions on how to make this process easier if you have some! This is a work in progress.)

Mentor Scribes can use Template:visl to list themselves within Category:SL Mentor Scribes

Requirements for Becoming a Mentor Scribe

Mentor Scribes are asked to create a user page within the Second Life Volunteer Wiki with some form of text on it that shows the ability to edit and maintain a wiki page. "Advanced knowledge" of the wiki is not required, but the ability to assist others with setting up their own user page and diving into the wiki is a must. At the moment, there is no requirement for number of contributions made to the wiki, though Mentor Scribes are expected to have some level of involvement in its development or progress.
