[8:05] Erinyse Planer: heh if that dont work well I think my name is listed in the app that got my other char into battery st. :P
[8:05] CG Linden: Ok, let's see....
[8:06] CG Linden: This week, no rolling restart
[8:06] CG Linden: simulators are safe for now
[8:06] Tegg Bode: Hmm so whats on your plate this week CG?
[8:06] Erinyse Planer: *pouts* no fix yet for collissions then?
[8:06] CG Linden: for me it's a short week
[8:06] Gellan Glenelg: no meeting on 4th, I assume?
[8:06] CG Linden: well, we'll deploy next week's rolling restart on the beta^h^h^h^hpreview grid (aditi)
[8:07] CG Linden: nope, I'll be sleepong in that day :)
[8:07] Erinyse Planer makes plans to go sit fireworks off outside cg's house *giggles evilly*
[8:08] CG Linden: One problem is that our lead physics guy is on vacation, so all bugs havingto do with physics will take a while to get fixed
[8:08] CG Linden: including Lam's favorite critter
[8:08] Lamorna Proctor: does that include the fix i need for chess, etc?
[8:08] Lamorna Proctor: :(
[8:09] CG Linden: sorry, but tat guy's been working 12h days ever since I got to LindenLab
[8:09] Lamorna Proctor: i'm getting increasing flak from customers
[8:09] Close Range: Arcadia Jonson [36m]
[8:09] Erinyse Planer pouts "the rp sim owners and the weopons makers are getting really hurt by the collision issue
[8:09] Erinyse Planer: especially byu the idiots that buy weopons then complain they dont work even when shown the jira that explains why they dont work *sighs*
[8:10] CG Linden: well, it looks like the following ones will be fixed next week, though:
[8:10] CG Linden: SVC-2485: Phantom Objects Collide with Virtual Prims in 1.22.2
[8:10] CG Linden: SVC-2484: llVolumeDetect() Fails to detect some avatars
[8:11] CG Linden: are those the collision bugs you were refering to?
[8:11] Tegg Bode: Hmm that could be trouble by the sounds of things, well, it will get fixed eventually I guess
[8:12] HALEY Salomon: that jumping bug ,, seems to be back the one ,, we just fly up for no reason .
[8:12] Battery Street Irregulars whispers: Thanks for your interest in the Battery Street Irregulars. We'll be contacting you soon!
[8:12] HALEY Salomon: Is tat on the list to be fixed
[8:12] Erinyse Planer: thats two of the issues yes
[8:13] CG Linden: Don't think so... I showed it to Andrew (our physics guy) before he left
[8:13] CG Linden: Hi Nite...
[8:13] CG Linden: and he kind of went "oh no, not that again" :)
[8:13] HALEY Salomon: ops
[8:14] CG Linden: this week, we're continuing to tweak the web services
[8:15] CG Linden: unfortunately, they are proving to be a new generator of failure points
[8:15] CG Linden: this Sunday they were the cause of disruptions
[8:15] CG Linden: mainly due to a "spiral of doom" type effect
[8:15] Erinyse Planer: that doesnt sound good
[8:16] CG Linden: were a heavy weight request triggers a lot of secondary requests, which backs up other requests and increases the load, which ....
[8:16] CG Linden: there are also some design issues that weren't quite thought through ....
[8:17] Erinyse Planer: so what does this mean?
[8:17] Erinyse Planer: that theres going to be another redesign?
[8:17] Tegg Bode: Yep that's life I suppose, have to break a few eggs occasionally
[8:18] CG Linden: it mainly means that the replacement of all database calls with web services will take a little while...
[8:19] CG Linden: on the other hand, they do provide a nice framework, and this week we are deploying a preliminary code set which will eventually permit escrow-type transactions
[8:19] Lamorna Proctor pricks up her ears
[8:19] CG Linden: this will eventually allow objects to detect whether transactions succeeded....
[8:19] Lamorna Proctor: :)
[8:19] CG Linden: but the emphasis is on eventuallu
[8:20] Erinyse Planer: meaning still probably months away ... we understand
[8:20] CG Linden: as far as I'm concerned, it is -way- beyond my horizon
[8:20] CG Linden: but eh, we got some of our best people working on it
[8:20] Lamorna Proctor: It's not just L$ transactions we need that for, we also need confirmation that inventory offers have been accepted
[8:21] CG Linden: yes, the idea is that you collect all parts of a "bargain" and only proceed of all parts are present.
[8:21] CG Linden: if
[8:21] Lamorna Proctor: good
[8:22] Erinyse Planer: cg anyword on if SVC-2511 is going to be addressed at all next week?
[8:24] CG Linden: Looking
[8:25] CG Linden: If you think PJIRA is slow, you should see how slow our internal Jira is :)
[8:26] HALEY Salomon: CG ,, that sliding into the room animation is great did u make it ??
[8:26] CG Linden: well, I guess it will come up eventually :)
[8:26] Erinyse Planer: nto worried about slowness "*Shrugs** but... worried about the fact ive seen three weopons makers out of business 4 others strugling, and 3 rp sim sets on the verge of clsoing
[8:26] CG Linden: No, I didn't make it
[8:26] HALEY Salomon: landmark please ??
[8:27] CG Linden: Outrider animations it was
[8:27] HALEY Salomon: okes
[8:28] CG Linden: so, it doesn't look like that one's going to be in 1.23 (next week's sim rollout)
[8:28] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: White moves 1. e2-e4

[8:29] Tegg Bode: I noticed the that here and there I still find the "sim is running different server code" message , shouldn't the whole grid be the same now?

[8:30] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: Black moves 8. ... Ng8-f6
[8:30] HALEY Salomon: it is weird,,, that so many people care what color blue,, it is ..
[8:30] Tegg Bode: Andrac occassionaly, but perhaps it was during rollouts last week?
[8:30] Lamorna Proctor personally likes the current RC viewer and doesn't understand the fuss
[8:30] Erinyse Planer: haley its cause the ligheter blue is too low contrast AND a seizure trigger for some epileptics
[8:31] CG Linden: our rollouts now take about 3 days
[8:31] Lamorna Proctor: oh?
[8:31] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: White moves 9. Bc1-g5

[8:31] Tegg Bode: Yes I think Dazzle is a tad bright, but I use it anyway and funny enough , I've had bad headaches over the last 2 months too
[8:32] Lea Vendetta: The colors Dazzle uses can be a trigger for people with certain types of migraines
[8:32] CG Linden: so, let me see what's in it this week...
[8:32] Lamorna Proctor stands corrected
[8:33] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: Black moves 10. ... Qd8-e7

[8:37] CG Linden: skoshi, yukuri hanashitara, wakarimasu
[8:38] Erinyse Planer: will battery street becoem active after rc12 or 13 (whichever) goes live?

[8:38] Saijanai Kuhn: s'koshi yo tambien, dude
[8:38] CG Linden: well, we thought so to, but the merge turned out to be a little bit ore complex than anticipated, and we didn't want to pollute 1.20

[8:39] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: Ready to play
[8:39] Close Range: Freddy Jetcity [22m]
[8:39] CG Linden: this being said, w may still do it that way if the mono team can produce a diff that the viewer team can understand and integrate easily :)
[8:39] Erinyse Planer cant wait for mono. hopes taht it will help on script caused lag
[8:40] White Player's Seat: Freddy Jetcity is playing White
[8:40] Saijanai Kuhn: Erinyse did you check your laggy scripts in beta?

[8:42] Erinyse Planer: not my scripts lol its scripts in general.
[8:42] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: You must move out of check
[8:42] Tegg Bode: So less RC viewers then?
[8:43] Lamorna Proctor: i've tested many of my most complex scripts on the beta grid, and they converted with no trouble at all
[8:43] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: You must move out of check
[8:43] CG Linden: viewer side, work will continue...
[8:43] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: Sorry, it is Black to move

[8:43] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: Move 5, Black to play
[8:43] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: Please click a piece, and then click one of the squares outlined in blue to move it to that square
[8:43] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: You must move out of check
[8:44] Erinyse Planer: any word yet on when the battery street program gets operational?
[8:44] Erinyse Planer cant wait to get to break things nightly
[8:44] CG Linden: BSI - you -may- get email this week
[8:45] CG Linden: due to the reskinning ("undazzle"), the viewer side's been a tad busy
[8:45] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: Move 5, Black to play
[8:45] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: Please click a piece, and then click one of the squares outlined in blue to move it to that square
[8:45] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: Sorry, it is Black to move
[8:45] CG Linden: but I actually think that a lot of work is going to be happening viewer side, it is definitely where the attention is focussed now
[8:46] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: You must move out of check
[8:46] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: Move 5, Black to play
[8:46] Sculpted Chess Set V3.0.2 whispers: Please click a piece, and then click one of the squares outlined in blue to move it to that square

[8:46] CG Linden: so when I said I don't know what's up after mono, it may well be that we'll only do bug fixes server side for a while and concentrate more effort on the viewer and related items
[8:47] CG Linden: "new User experience" is the main thing "M" is looking at ...
[8:47] Sheet Spotter hopes CG gets to sneak in a summer vacation. :-)
[8:48] CG Linden: and as we all know, the current new user experience is not exactly, well, frankly, it sucks
[8:48] Erinyse Planer: careful cg that much honesty might get you in trouble lol
[8:48] Erinyse Planer: hahaha
[8:48] Erinyse Planer hugs
[8:48] Lamorna Proctor: what kind of things are you thinking of doing to improve it?
[8:49] CG Linden: well, the new avis are one little thing we did
[8:49] Tegg Bode: Hmm we need to get them into the sex sim easier :)
[8:49] CG Linden: but mainly trying to streamline the registration process
[8:49] CG Linden: and of course the OIs...
[8:50] CG Linden: I don't think you'll find anyone who actually likes the current setup
[8:50] Lamorna Proctor: my only concern is that in making the UI easier for noobs you don't make life more difficult for experienced residents
[8:50] Nite Zelmanov: Some of the privately implemented regportal orientations have been really good
[8:50] CG Linden: yes, and there is a big effort to keep those going...
[8:51] CG Linden: but interetingly enough, retention rates from those are not significantly different than from ours
[8:51] Erinyse Planer: theres a couple of lindens frankly that all by themselves have hurt user expereince too cg
[8:51] CG Linden: the asian community gateways do slightly better than us, the european ones actually do worse
[8:51] Saijanai Kuhn: I think the issue s if people log in during peak hours, their experience is going to suck, period due to the brekage of the network
[8:52] CG Linden: These are really tough problems....
[8:52] Tegg Bode: Yeah, I don't think new people realise how easiy it is to create things here and how many options are available, they are just shown to walk, fly, tp and wear clothes
[8:52] Saijanai Kuhn: max concurrency overwhelms the system and everything goes south
[8:53] HALEY Salomon: I do not think the problem is the hard learning curve I think it's that stuff just doesn't work and the new people think its them
[8:53] Saijanai Kuhn: I know you guys have started login freezes and that helps, but then people just can't login which is alkso a problem :-(
[8:53] CG Linden: yep, that's where the whole dataservice effort is going, to make that more scalable
[8:53] HALEY Salomon: at least the new people in my class,,
[8:54] Tegg Bode: Yes unfortunately peak times are when the maximum number of real users want to be logged in but can't.
[8:54] CG Linden: One of the reasons we want agent domains is also so we can use them ourselves to partition the user table....
[8:54] Saijanai Kuhn: hopefuly, as the new Agent DOmain/ Region domain gets implemented, a lot of issues will naturally correct themselves
[8:54] Erinyse Planer: allot of premium acocunts get ticked off too caus ethey think they should be able to login durring restrictions. theres really not allot of incentive to get premiums atm
[8:55] CG Linden: we actually can do that, but you should have seen the backlash when we tried it :)
[8:55] Saijanai Kuhn: CG, so you can distribute which server is handling x number of agents at any moment?
[8:55] HALEY Salomon: the backlash from all the people who rent.. their sims ,, two nonpaying members ???
[8:55] CG Linden: not at the moment, no... everything still goes to one central database
[8:55] Tegg Bode: Yeah I think perhaps they would be better logging out any accounts that have been online for 24 hours
[8:55] Saijanai Kuhn: well, I meant with Agent Domain
[8:56] CG Linden: that would be the idea, yes
[8:56] Tegg Bode: maybe 12 hours might be better
[8:56] HALEY Salomon: noooo ,, I am o for 12 hours
[8:56] Lamorna Proctor: there are a lot of bot accounts that would be affected by that
[8:56] HALEY Salomon: and I ay concierge,, for the privilege
[8:56] Shawna Montgomery: me too
[8:56] CG Linden: in some ways, there already is a natural evoplution to "agent domains", we actually already have half of an agent domain....
[8:56] Saijanai Kuhn: yeah, I understand the fornt end ideas, but you guys do what you like on the backend, so we have to guess what it will mean
[8:56] CG Linden: it's called the inventory db server :)
[8:57] Tegg Bode: The only problem is alot of bot accounts would hammer the grid with auto relogs straight away too
[8:57] Sheet Spotter: Bot accounts would automatically log on again. :-(
[8:57] Lamorna Proctor: yes
[8:57] Erinyse Planer: there shoudl be a way to dsiable bto acocunts period
[8:57] CG Linden: and one of the things we are doing is moving agent specific data from the central db to the inventory dbs
[8:57] Erinyse Planer: *disable bot accounts
[8:57] Saijanai Kuhn: Kelly and I were talking about an official bot avatar type to make the server programming easier. Something about the itnerest list
[8:58] Tegg Bode: maybe prevent relogging for 4 hours on accounts online for 24 hours?
[8:58] CG Linden: well, let me know if you find a way to autodetect bots :)
[8:58] Lamorna Proctor: well, if there were a way in script to do things like invite people into groups, that would reduce the need for bots
[8:58] Sheet Spotter: There are a few reliable ways to detect a bot. :-)
[8:58] CG Linden: please tell :)
[8:58] Saijanai Kuhn: well, no, this would be officially logging in as a bot. No 3D info ever sent out
[8:59] CG Linden: and besides, some bots do useful stuff
[8:59] Saijanai Kuhn: so it would reduce the server load. Useful for store bots, NPCs and monsters in RPG sims
[8:59] Lamorna Proctor: yes, but the group thing would be a useful addition to script
[8:59] CG Linden: and as Saijanai points out, it would actually be helpful if we had a mode for bots...
[8:59] Saijanai Kuhn: and wouldn't count against the normal avatar count on a sim
[8:59] Tegg Bode: well whether they are a bot or not if they have been online for 24 hours, and haven't moved in last hour or so, there's good chance there's no person at the keyboard, which is a s good as a bot IMO
[9:00] CG Linden: yeah, but those people don't really create problems either
[9:00] Gellan Glenelg: not moved in the last hour? The bots I see are constantly tping in /out
[9:00] CG Linden: the ones that do create problems are those that do stuff
[9:00] CG Linden: especially the ones that try to harvest data
[9:01] Saijanai Kuhn: ironically, the first of those was Dale Glass's map bot
[9:01] Erinyse Planer: like the one that leads peopel to a page that has the fake login to sl, then takes over their acocunt and uses it to spam others?
[9:01] Tegg Bode: Well if they have ben online for daysor weeks they are probably bots too. Trouble is sorting good bots from bad, some have legitimate uses, like group invite bots
[9:01] Saijanai Kuhn: and as long as it was just one, I don't think anyone minded.
[9:01] Erinyse Planer: but you dont need a bto to do group invites
[9:02] Erinyse Planer: theres plenty of scritps that do so without bots
[9:02] Lamorna Proctor: if an object is owned by a group, it should be possible to implement a LL API call to invite to and eject from a group
[9:02] Lamorna Proctor: maybe someone has already PJIRAed that
[9:02] Lamorna Proctor will check
[9:02] Erinyse Planer: its already possible
[9:03] Saijanai Kuhn: with the new pyogp scripted bots, there will be a LOT of new uses for bots. Hopefully we'll have it sorted out by the time they become useful to people
[9:03] Gellan Glenelg: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-273 (Allow Scripts To Send Group Invitations)
[9:03] Lamorna Proctor: How Erinyse? I'm not awar of a way to do it?
[9:03] Lamorna Proctor: *aware
[9:03] Tegg Bode: We really need verification, connecting all accounts to a RL person, then LL will know who is running over 5 accounts and have the otion to do domething
[9:04] Trinity Coulter: why
[9:04] Lamorna Proctor: Having multiple accounts is not in itself a bad thing
[9:04] Saijanai Kuhn: the new login model is supposed to tie everything to one account, but that doesn't keep you from having 2 or more accoutns anyway
[9:04] Lamorna Proctor: There are many legitimate uses for alts
[9:05] HALEY Salomon: but the rule is five
[9:05] Saijanai Kuhn: sure, but eventually, there should be a way to share inventory between alts on the same acount
[9:05] Erinyse Planer: i have three and two friends have ones that they sometimes log in from where i am. why would i wnat LL to dsiable me for haivng multiple accounts?
[9:05] Lamorna Proctor: As a designer and scripter, I need to test things as an alt, to check permissions, etc.
[9:05] Shawna Montgomery: why did they stop charging the fee for extra accounts?
[9:06] Gellan Glenelg: yes, I have/need alts... but can you give a legitimate reason for having 100 alts?
[9:06] HALEY Salomon: none
[9:06] Erinyse Planer: if i cant have more then five accounts ild probably stop playing ll
[9:06] CG Linden: I don't know for sure, but my guess is that policing alts and recovering the fee isjust too much trouble
[9:06] Erinyse Planer: *sl
[9:06] Saijanai Kuhn: lol talk to enus. I think he has 300+
[9:06] Lamorna Proctor: i'd forget all their names :)
[9:06] Sheet Spotter: 100 alts means you always have someone to talk to! :-)
[9:06] CG Linden: well, QA is different
[9:06] Lamorna Proctor: let alone their passwords
[9:06] Tegg Bode: No but once you start getting over 5 or 6 it's a bit needless and trouble is at moment anyone eligable for hotmail can creat 4 or 5 accounts for each disposable email. So any kid can create accounts too
[9:06] Saijanai Kuhn: tesert1 tester2 tester3...
[9:07] Erinyse Planer: now i WOULD pay like an extra $5 or $10 a year for at least two alts and tie them to my main to get the extra support and land owning ability that coems with premium
[9:07] Lamorna Proctor: i wouldn't be seen dead with some of my alts ;)
[9:08] HALEY Salomon: not me ,,,mine are gorgeous
[9:08] Tegg Bode: Yes that is a bit silly that my legally created alts don't have access to same support as my paying main account
[9:08] Saijanai Kuhn: all my alts are ruthed usually. They log in stand around, spam groups that never get the messages I try to send...
[9:08] Erinyse Planer: i dotn thionk its smart or practical to say "you cant have more then five acocutns"
[9:08] HALEY Salomon: I agree
[9:09] Tegg Bode: There is LL just have to make sure every person playing is verified in some way.
[9:09] Lamorna Proctor: it's certainly not policed, and as CG says it's far too difficult to do it on a continuous basis
[9:10] Lamorna Proctor: IP addresses change, MAC addresses change when someone buys a new computer
[9:10] Tegg Bode: The gate is open and but horses are still running through it, we shoult close it at some point
[9:10] 01 Hifeng: if verification - not by credit card, because not everyone is willing to show his/her credit card's number to random companies -_-
[9:10] CG Linden: well, we are 10 minutes over, and i need to get to work...
[9:10] Lamorna Proctor: ok, thanks CG
[9:10] HALEY Salomon: thank you this was fun and informative
[9:10] Gellan Glenelg: thanks CG
[9:10] Saijanai Kuhn: thanks CG
[9:10] Tegg Bode: You are at work :)
[9:11] Bri Gufler: Thanks for having us CG
[9:11] Sheet Spotter: Thank you for this hour (and ten minutes) CG! :-)
[9:11] Saijanai Kuhn: BTW, if anyone is ageek under the skin, the AW Groupies meeting starts in 20 minutes. IM me for a group invite
[9:11] Tegg Bode: Yep thx :)
[9:11] CG Linden: your welcome...
[9:11] Lamorna Proctor: what's that all about, Saijanai?
[9:11] CG Linden: /m remembers to save chatlog
[9:11] Earadriede Callisto: thanks CG
