Mesh is a new capability to bring models, known as meshes, created in other applications into Second Life. Mesh is available on the aditi developer grid, and the process of rolling out mesh support to agni has started.
Getting started - testing mesh on aditi
Mesh is not generally available on agni yet. For now, you can test it on several mesh-enabled test regions on aditi as follows:
- Download the Mesh Import Project Viewer from Second Life's Alternate Viewers page.
- Look for the Mesh Import Project Viewer installer in the Second Life Project Viewers section. Be sure not to install the project Viewer in the same folder as your existing Viewer 2 installation, or you will likely get a "application failed to initialize properly" error upon startup.
- Import your SL account to Aditi (see Updating Your Account on Aditi for instructions).
- Install and run the Viewer.
- Enable the grid selection dropdown in Me->Preferences->Advanced->Show Grid Selection or by typing CTRL+SHIFT+G.
- In grid selection, choose the Aditi beta grid.
- Go to region Mesh City or any of the other Mesh-enabled regions.
- Note that Mesh City and its variants can get overloaded with Residents during peak hours, which may impact performance. You may want to check the Mesh Sandboxes if you're having trouble logging into Mesh City or if everything there looks like large triangles instead of meshes.
- See what people have been working on, or try uploading some sample content of your own!
