Linden Endowment for the Arts: Month of Machinima (MoM)
Produced by the Linden Endowment for the Arts (LEA), the Month of Machinima (MoM) event is a monthly screening of the best of Second Life machinima. For consideration in the next month’s screening (see MoM Application and Criteria below). MoM is a recurring event, which kicked off May 4, 2011 and continues each month with juried and themed screenings of machinima created by members of the Second Life community.
The objectives of the event are to promote and stimulate Second Life machinima, encourage the creation of new work, and showcase existing work. It serves as an opportunity to introduce Residents to the machinima art form and to support the machinima community to continue to create these experiences for everyone to enjoy.
The purpose of the LEA is to help create a center of arts activity in Second Life. The LEA is committed to providing access to engaging experiences in the arts for the Second Life community. Through its exhibitions, programs, and events, the LEA fosters awareness of artists’ contributions to our virtual world and encourages others to get involved and be inspired.
Check out the MoM YouTube channel to see each month's selected films.
MoM Application and Criteria
The LEA is looking for the best community-created art machinima in Second Life. All genres are welcome. This is a juried event, meaning that all submitted machinima will be reviewed for artistic integrity. The LEA reserves the right to refuse films without disclosing a reason. Here are the general guidelines for consideration:
- Suggested maximum machinima length: 6 minutes.
- Wide format.
- No UI in machinima, except when functional.
- No sex or violence (unless those are set as part of the monthly theme).
- Copyrights owned.
- Content of machinima must adhere to the theme (if a theme is announced for a given event).
UPCOMING THEMES
- Dec: Endings
- Jan: Black and white
- Feb: Rhythm
- March: Speed
- April: Fear
- May: Twist
- June: Hot/cold
- SL Art is your guideline in all submitted machinima. Be sure to be creative and take care of copyrights.
Interested in sharing your (or someone else’s) best machinima? Submit your application. The Linden Endowment for the Arts (LEA) selects and screens films made with machinima that focus on the arts, highlight the art of machinima, or are art films. Applications are due by the 15th of the month for consideration for the following month’s event. We can only schedule screening a limited number of machinima in any given month, so if your machinima is not selected for the next event, we will keep your machinima submission for consideration at a future event.
Some machinima best practices can be found here.
